THIS WEEK'S FEATURED TRADE PAPERBACKS AT THIRD EYE COMICS!

DAREDEVIL BY BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS OMNIBUS HC

I know I've already gushed over this book once in the new releases features, but I'm going to do it again. Bendis gave us the best Daredevil run since Frank Miller. In fact, in my opinion, I liked his run even more than I did the Miller stuff. I know, comics blasphemy, right? But, it's true! Maybe it's because I was following the Bendis run while it was coming out, whereas with the Miller stuff, I just digested it in huge chunks of trade paperback collections. Maybe it's because the Bendis run just hit all the right chords with me because it began right when I began working in a comic shop. I don't know, but for whatever reason, Bendis and Maleev's Daredevil run is one of my all-time favorites.

Now, collected into this massive hardcover omnibus edition, Bendis's Daredevil is given the presentation it deserves. He was on this book for almost five years (maybe a little over, I don't remember right now), and over the course of those five years, he laid out so many gritty yet epic storylines for Matt Murdock, that you were on the edge of your seat waiting for what came next.

This beautifully packaged hardcover has the first big chunk of Bendis's DD run, and gives you all those great stories from Murdock's identity being revealed in the tabloids to the fall of the Kingpin, and more. I know, it's a heftily-priced book, but it comes highly recommended by us here at Third Eye!

Here's what Marvel's website has to say about the book:

<quote>THE STORY:
An epic of ambition, betrayal and comeuppance culminates with the world learning the devil's mask hides a pair of blind eyes! The hero of Hell's Kitchen is assailed as both civilian and super hero by a wave of his worst enemies – including the Owl, Mister Hyde, Bullseye, Typhoid and the Kingpin of Crime! But it's the heart of the Man Without Fear that gets the real workout with not only the introduction of Milla Donovan – but also the Black Widow, Elektra and Echo! Who? Echo! Plus: the mystery of Leap-Frog and the trial of the White Tiger! Also featuring Luke Cage and Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, and enough other guest-stars to fill a jury box! Collecting DAREDEVIL #16-19 & #26-50 & #56-60.

JLA BY GRANT MORRISON DELUXE HARDCOVER

Grant Morrison and Howard Porter made the Justice League cool again. Back in the 90s, the Justice League had become the perfect example of a really crappy superhero team. There were tons of lame throwaway characters on the team, the stories were bad, and the writers were trying EVERYTHING to make this book good. It just hadn't been the same since the Keith Giffen stuff, and they couldn't figure out how to make the book appealing again. Along comes comics sorcerer Grant Morrison, and bam, the Justice League were once again the book to read. He narrowed the team down to a "Big 7" concept, where it was only the most iconic DC characters, like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, ect. He introduced new villains, and put quirky new takes on old villains.

This hardcover is the first in a series collecting Morrison's amazing run on the series. In this volume, you get the New World Order storyline, which is one of the best superhero stories of all-time, in my opinion. You want to see the essence of each of these DC characters at its most pure? This is the arc for you.

The Morrison JLA run is what made me love the Justice League, and if you haven't read his run on the series, then you have to. This is classic stuff. And if you have read his run, give this HC a look anyway, it's very cool seeing these stories reprinted on big, glossy pages.

ASTOUNDING WOLFMAN v.1 TPB

Fans of Invincible, read this book! Robert Kirkman, the talented writer behind Image hits like Walking Dead and Invincible, has finally gotten his most recent series collected into a trade paperback. The Astounding Wolfman is a fun look at a pretty average joe, who... is a werewolf. And, basically, chooses to go in a more unusual route than your average werewolves. Look, it's wild, over-the-top superhero fun with that trademark Kirkman knack for clever dialouge, and new twists on age old concepts. The artwork fits the mood of the story perfect, and if you're an Invincible fan, then you'll feel right at home with this book, especially since the Wolfman shares the same universe as characters like Invincible, Brit, and so on. In the mood for a quirky, fun new read? Check out Astounding Wolfman.

Third Eye's "Are You Reading?" featuring Old Man Logan

Third Eye's "Are You Reading?"
featuring OLD MAN LOGAN

Good Wolverine stories seem to be few and far between these days, with how much the character gets used. However, Mark Millar and Steve McNiven have given us that must-read Wolverine arc for the 21st century with "Old Man Logan". Playing a central role in Mark Millar's mysterious "Who Taught Dr. Doom to be Doom?" event, Old Man Logan shows us a future where Wolverine hasn't popped his claws in twenty years, Hawkeye is 80 years old, blind, and very Big Lebowski-esque... and the two of them are trekking across a wasteland of America in the Spider-Buggy. From roaming motorcycle gangs calling themselves the "Ghost Riders", to the Hulk's inbred grandchildren, this book is filled with all sorts of neat takes on the future Marvel landscape. You gotta read it!

Old Man Logan begins in Wolverine 66, and is continuing in Wolverine every month. We have PLENTY of the first two chapters in stock here currently at Third Eye, so don't miss out on this summer's hottest storyline!

Now it's the morning after, and Lightwave, Natalie X, Alex U-16, Doc Banner and the Burning Man expect you to live up to your responsibilities. It's the Human Torch's worst break-up ever—or will it be a shotgun wedding? Plus: where in the world is Doctor Doom?

THIRD EYE COMICS REVIEW: JOKER'S ASYLUM BY LUCAS GERACE!

By: Lucas Gerace

What do you get when you cross Masterpiece Theatre, the Clown Prince of Crime, and one of the greatest rogues gallery comics has to offer? Why that particular concoction will yield a 5 issue mini-series of one-shots called Joker’s Asylum. Each particular issue begins with a brief narration by the Joker before delving into a short, self contained story starring the various villains of Gotham City. Each story, though, focuses on the villains themselves and less on the Caped Crusader, an approach that makes this series all the more interesting to read.

Each issue is devoted to one villain, with Poison Ivy, the Scarecrow, the Penguin, Two-Face, and the Joker, each starring respectively. The Joker also narrates and offers his own twisted take on what could be considered the “moral” at the of each story. Every issue is written and drawn by different writers and artists so collecting all 5 of the Joker’s Asylum stories yields a bountiful mixture of art and writing styles.

One specific issue I particularly enjoyed was the one with Two-Face. The end certainly caught me off guard and was well worth the 3 dollars or so one must spend to procure these delightfully macabre collections. I won’t spoil it here other than to say if you left Dark Knight and didn’t get quite enough of the district attorney with a dichotomy problem, then this is definitely the comic to pick up next time you find yourself at the comic store. In the spirit of Two-Face, flip a coin. Heads you pick up Jokers Asylum, tails you miss out. See where Lady Luck takes you.

This man says…if you’re smart, you’ll use Harvey’s coin…before the explosion.

THIRD EYE REVIEW: CAPTAIN AMERICA: WHITE #0 (review courtesy of Lucas Gerace)

THIRD EYE REVIEW
by Lucas Gerace

Everyone loves super hero team-ups right? Batman and Superman, Wolvie and Spidey? Well, we the readers are certainly in for a treat with the real life dynamic duo of Tim Sale and Jeph Loeb. Their past collaborations have included Batman: The Long Halloween, Dark Victory, Haunted Knight, and Catwoman: When in Rome. Anyone who has read these books will recognize the impact and influence on that little screen gem Dark Knight. Yeah, they’re that good.

This time around, however, our favorite pair are working for DC’s most distinguished competitor; Marvel. That’s right! In the same vein as Spiderman Blue, Hulk Grey, and Daredevil Yellow, they have begun to work on a series starring America’s favorite fallen son…that’s right…Captain America! Captain America White’s premier issue # 0 is set in the halcyon days of World War II and retells the origin of Bucky. The real Bucky, none of that resurrected Winter Soldier business, we’re talkin’ star struck, cartwheelin’, teenage sidekick.

This book is full of the classic, evocative artwork Sale is known for. There is a certain timeless quality to the images that place these characters back in their prime, back when lady’s were called dames, and the moral barometer was still set relatively rather high. Coupled with the Loeb’s poignant dialogue that seems lifted out of those old 1940’s movie serials, this comic truly is a trip back through time to the Golden Age of heroes that are now either dead or drastically re-imagined from their initial versions.

If, Yellow, Blue, and Grey, were any indication of what’s to come then it’s my sound advice to get in on the ground floor. The origin stories are a nice counterpoint to the Marvel Universe today. It’s kind of like when you go to your grandparents house and you flip through old albums and see what your family was like before ipods and cell phones…well minus the milk and cookies and other obligatory grandma-prepared snacks.

This man says…it’s a great read and not to be missed!
