THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS!

AWESOME WEEK FOR COMICS! KICK ASS 5, OLD MAN LOGAN PT 5, INCOGNITO 1, RAGE OF THE RED LANTERNS pt.2, AND SO MUCH MORE, READ ON + WE ARE OPEN NORMAL HOURS FOR NEW YEAR'S EVE AND NEW YEAR'S DAY!!
Hey everybody, first off, let me say happy holidays and may all of you have a safe and happy New Year's. We will be holding normal hours for this entire week, so you don't have to worry about any holiday scheduling. We will be open New Year's Eve 11AM to 9PM, just like normal, and New Year's Day 11AM to 9PM, just like normal!
We've got one heck of an awesome week for you guys with new books. It's like EVERYTHING that's super good is coming out this week, and we're so stoked on all the exciting series debuts, and next installments in current red hot runs, that we're about to explode. So, do yourselves a favor, and read on, because you are in for a treat this week, Third Eye faithful!

WOLVERINE 70 - OLD MAN LOGAN PT 5 Slices and Dices It's Way Into Third Eye This Week!

The big hit for this week is definitely going to be Wolverine 70, or as we all know it: Old Man Logan Chapter 5. What has clearly been the biggest storyline from this past Summer begins to count down towards tons of big reveals, and epic happenings. It's been long enough since 69 came out to where we can talk spoilers here a little.. and at the end of 69, you know when ol' Logan sat down to begin telling the story of just how the heroes were all wiped out and what changed this world.. well, you know this is the one to read. Yup, folks, all the stuff with 1985, all the stuff with FF, and all the stuff with Old Man Logan, Millar has hinted that we're going to just learn what the heck is going on in this next installment of Wolverine. And, maybe you're late to the party, and haven't heard about Old Man Logan yet.. so let me give you a quick crash course on why this is one of the biggest books of 2008 (and hell, now 2009!)

Picture this, Wolverine is no more, there's only Logan. It's set 50 years in the future, and he hasn't popped his claws in many, many years. America's a wasteland divided into territories, Dr. Doom controls most of it, Hawkeye is 80 years old and blind, the Spider-Buggy is the vehicle of choice (it even climbs up walls!), the Hulk and She-Hulk popped out many a inbred child (and now grandchildren), look.. it's craziness, it's madness, almost all the Marvel superheroes are dead... and you know you want to read this comic. So, next time you're in, just ask Trish or I.. "okay, so where's the first part of Old Man Logan?" and we'll get you hooked up.
And as for everyone else.. IT'S FINALLY OUT. Now, you can all click here for a look at Wolverine 70 OLD MAN LOGAN Chapter 5.

KICK ASS 5 available this Friday @ Third Eye Comics!!

And holy crap, it's another huge book that everyone has been eagerly awaiting! The story of Kick-Ass has hooked everyone, new and veteran readers alike, because it's just so damn.. kick-ass! But seriously, this series by Old Man Logan writer Mark Millar, and master artist John Romita Jr has been the most fun we've had reading comics in 2008. Picture this, you got this 16 year old kid, really into comics, decides to be a superhero... gets his ass kicked so bad he's hospitalized for six months.. he gets out of the hospital, ends up going through it all again, but actually gets in some lucky hits... crowd of on-lookers video tape it on their cell phones, upload it to YouTube, and wham bam, internet celebrity, viral sensation, Kick-Ass, is born... but he's still horrible at what he does. That's where Hit-Girl and Big Daddy come into play... a 10 year old girl and her dad, wielding a katana sword and eviscerating all sorts of people.
Now, does that sound awesome, or what? And if you're already hooked on Kick-Ass, then you're foaming at the mouth for this next issue, and trust me, we feel your pain, folks! But it's here, finally, the next installment of Kick-Ass which shows us the debut of...Kick-Ass's ARCH-NEMESIS! A.K.A the rich kid son of a big time mafia boss... oh, just read it, you know it's gonna be made of win. Click here to read a preview of Kick-Ass 5!

INCOGNITO 1 - BRAND NEW SERIES FROM CRIMINAL CREATIVE TEAM ED BRUBAKER (writer of Captain America, DD: Lady Bullseye, and more) AND SEAN PHILLIPS - THIS IS THE SICKEST SUPER-VILLAIN COMIC YOU WILL READ ALL YEAR!

Incognito is a book that I feel you guys need to be aware of. It's going to be awesome. I've read the first 8 pages, and I absolutely positively think that this is some lightning in a bottle magic. Brubaker, the writer of such landmark stuff as the Death of Captain America, Gotham Central, Daredevil: Lady Bullseye, and Uncanny X-Men: Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire, is penning it, and his partner Sean Phillips, the man behind Marvel Zombies and Criminal, will be doing the artwork. This is dark, bleak stuff, folks. Brubaker's calling it Super-Noir, since it's basically a modern day noir-influenced tale all about superheroes.
And, just what the heck is Incognito all about? It's the story of a super-villain who's forced into a life of being a normal, honest human being. A super-villain who's in the Witness Protection program, and spends every day of his office job wanting to melt the skin from his co-worker's bones. Just watch as the cracks begin to show, and wait as we watch for him to slowly self-destruct, and you know it'll happen. The book looks awesome, and will be released under the same Marvel ICON imprint as KICK ASS. Its something a little different, and it doesn't have the huge hype machine behind it that a lot of the bigger heavyweights do, but I have a lot of faith in this, and I really hope you guys give it a shot. I like to see good comics do well.
And hey, ontop of all that, in the tradition of their series Criminal, you get more bang for your buck than any comic out there... $3.50, NO ADS, and extra content in the back.. how can you go wrong? Click here to read a preview of Incognito 1!

DARK REIGN FORECAST FOR THIS WEEK! WAR MACHINE 1 , & AVENGERS INITIATIVE 20

Here's your Dark Reign forecast for the week of 1/2/09, and we got a couple of whoppers for you. The first of which is the highly anticipated War Machine ongoing series that begins this week. Lets face it, War Machine is one of the coolest friggin' Marvel characters to come out of the 80s and 90s. He's got rocket launchers on his shoulders! And we mean that in a good way (not in the early '90s Image comics kind of way)! Definitely one of the most interesting characters to come to the forefront of things with Dark Reign, and the fact that Tony Stark's now a wanted fugitive, Jim Rhodes has everyone itchin to see where his new War Machine series is going to go. Written by the master storyteller behind PLANET HULK, Greg Pak, and pencilled by the amazing Leonard Manco (it's been a while since we've seen him do some work, but the pages I've seen from War Machine look outrageous), War Machine 1 definitely looks to be a hot pick for the new crop of Dark Reign stuff!
And hot on the heels of War Machine, we get Avengers the Initiative 2 0, which promises to reveal what will happen to the Initiative (considering it was so integral in the Skrull's plans), and watch as four key Initiative members move onto four major Marvel ongoing series.

Following the well-received Final Crisis: RAGE OF THE RED LANTERNS one-shot (which was part one of the Red Lanterns saga), is the next installment in the Rage of the Red Lanterns story.. and it's finally here! We know it took a little longer for Green Lantern 36 to come out, but now all of you who were itching for more Red Lantern action, and are curious about just where things are building to with Blackest Night... well you don't have to wait anymore, cause it's here! Green Lantern 36 gives us the first official chapter of the Rage of the Red Lanterns in the regular GL series, or if you want, the second chapter in the Rage of the Red Lanterns (if you count the one-shot). And hey, if you missed out on the one-shot, don't worry, we gots plenty of 'em here at Third Eye.
Just what is Rage of the Red Lanterns about? The Red Lanterns, fueled by well.. RAGE... want only one thing: to brutally kill Sinestro, and of course, anyone who stands in their way. So Hal and the gang have to go head to head with Atrocitus and all his fellow Red Lanterns in this issue, and what's this... now the Orange Lanterns begin to surface? Click here to read more about Green Lantern 36!

BACK TO BROOKLYN 3 brings us the next issue in Garth Ennis's (Writer of the Boys) ultraviolent Mafia saga!

If there's one thing we know here at Third Eye... it's that Garth Ennis can write a fine comic! Everyone is loving the man's run on the Boys, you've dug his excellent take on the Punisher, and Preacher is a modern classic, for sure... not to mention all the great current stuff like Crossed that he puts out... lets face it, we're all about Ennis the Menace here at Third Eye. And this week, we get the third installment of his ultra-violent, kick in the teeth mafia comic Back To Brooklyn. When you're a wiseguy, and a huge mob war is about to break out between the different gangs in your hood, what'd you do to get your family safe? You go to the cops, right? Well, what if all the cops end up getting waxed, and that doesn't do it? You convince the cops to let you go in yourself, and that's exactly what happens. Now, EVERYONE wants to kill you, and you're just trying to get your wife and kids back... add in lots of blood, some trademark Ennis screwed-upness, and of course, all the well-paced storytelling and snappy dialogue that mister Ennis is known for, and you got yourself one heck of a good read. For those of you who haven't read it, here's a preview of issue 1!

KEVIN SMITH'S BATMAN CACOPHONY 2 hits the shelves this week!

OMG WTF! A Kevin Smith book that's on time?? See, we told you guys! We know his track record has burned a few of you before (spidermanblackcatcoughcoughdaredeviltargetcoughcough), but, lets face it, we love Kevin Smith. We love his flicks, and we love his comics. The man is a true fan, and you can definitely see it in project he does. And after having read Cacophony 1, we're hooked. His humorous take on characters like Deadshot and the Joker, along with the return of his fan-favorite Green Arrow villain Onmonopea (or however you spell it!), makes this three issue mini-series a must-read. And by god, he's getting it out on time! I'm impressed. I'll admit I was a little skeptical at first too, but hey.. I like to be proven wrong, especially when it means I can get a good comic quicker! Click here to read more about Batman: Cacophony 2!

FINAL CRISIS: SECRET FILES REVEALS THE GRIM SECRETS OF DARKSEID, AND THE INNER WORKINGS OF GRANT MORRISON'S INTRICATE STORYLINE!

Why are we making a big deal out of what's basically a handbook? Because if there's ANY series that needs a friggin' handbook, it's Final Crisis. I mean, don't get me wrong, we're loving it! Grant Morrison's arcane storytelling, and the sense of mystery and excitement he's built into this book have made us huge fans, and after issue 5, we're so damn hooked it's not even funny. But, lets be real, folks... THERE'S A LOT GOING ON HERE! And this Final Crisis: Secret Files one-shot is here to help make sense of some of the going ons of this amazing event book.
So, if there's certain aspects or characters you wanna learn more about, then this one-shot is the perfect resource to go to. I know I'm gonna be reading this thing from cover to cover! Click here to read more about Final Crisis Secret Files!

We're all digging the heck out of this New Krypton stuff, and this week's latest installment (Chapter 9) will be taking place in the pages of Superman 683. This is the big one, folks, thousands of enraged
Kryptonians lashing out against humanity, and only one Superman to stop them!

ULTIMATE HULK ANNUAL featuring Ed McGuiness Art Out This Week!

I'm personally a story kind of guy. I follow writers, I can appreciate good art, and I have some favorites, but it's a super well-written story that gets me hooked... and that being the case, it's rare that I'll read a book strictly based on an artist's name alone. There are some artists out there who just pull me in though, and Ed McGuiness is one of those. I will read ANYTHING this guy does because it is ALWAYS so full of awesomeness it's not even funny. And what does McGuiness do best? BIG. And who's bigger than the Hulk? Especially the people-eating, beer-swilling, hippie-bashing Ultimate Hulk. This Ultimatum Tie-In gives us Ultimate Hulk being his usual bad-ass self, Zarda (remember her from the Squadron Supreme world?) being her usual death goddess self.. and hey, Ultimate Captain America too! All we know is that the one-two punch of two awesome artists like Ed McGuiness and Marko Djurdevic make this one something we have got to check out this week. Click here to read more about Ultimate Hulk Annual 1!

FANTASTIC FOUR 562 : is this the threat from 1985?

Ultimates creative team Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch have made Fantastic Four a big time must read, and their last story arc, the Death of the Invisible Woman has set up a lot of interesting things. Basically, Fantastic Four ,1985 (which if you haven't read yet, PICK IT UP!), and Old Man Logan are all tied together according to Millar..and in this issue, we get to see the funeral for the Invisible Woman from... the future of Old Man Logan. And, Marvel even rumored maybe a threat from the world of 1985!? We'll see this week, I guess! Click here to read more about Fantastic Four 562!

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS

NEW AVENGERS 48 *DARK REIGN TIE-IN* DEBUTS BRAND NEW TEAM ROSTER AND DIRECTION FOR THIS TOP TIER BOOK!

New Avengers has been a premiere top tier title for Marvel since it's original debut, and has continued to be one of the most exciting and consistent team books put out by Marvel Comics. This week in the pages of New Avengers 48, you can expect the shadow of Dark Reign to fall hard on the debut of an all-new roster and line-up for the New Avengers! This is the first time that the Avengers roster has been shaken up like this, and you can expect to see some exciting new faces on the team. The perfect jumping on point for any of you who haven't already been reading New Avengers, do yourselves a favor, and hop aboard and find out why this is one of Marvel's big guns! I just got done scanning through the preview pages and I'm pretty stoked on what it looks like the new line up is going to be. Iron Fist is back, and is that Bucky Captain America joining the team? This ish is a must-buy for all you Marvel-heads, for sure! Click here for a preview of NEW AVENGERS 48 *DARK REIGN!*

THE SECOND INSTALLMENT OF ULTIMATUM HITS THE SHOP THIS WEEK WITH ULTIMATUM 2!

The Ultimate universe is in complete and total peril, no, seriously, we mean it! Well, we're not sure where this one is going to end up, but I have to admit... the first issue? AWESOME. Magneto in his throne, with Thor's hammer by his side? Tidal waves destroying New York city? David Finch doing a full 32 pages of interior artwork? These are some of the reasons why we're excited about Ultimatum, and from what Marvel's been slyly letting slip.. big things are going to transpire in this miniseries that completely change the entire concept of the Ultimate-verse. You can read more about Ultimatum 2 here .

BATMAN 683 - PART TWO OF THE SPECIAL FINAL CRISIS/RIP AFTERMATH STORY ARC!

So, we all want to know just what the hell happened that bridges the events of RIP with the events of Final Crisis? Don't worry! This "Last Rites" two part story arc of Batman 682 and Batman 683 are here to help bridge the events, and explain just what the heck went down. The overall story of RIP turned out to be pretty damn exciting, even though the grand finale was a little anti-climatic, but Morrison has us hooked. Batman 682 thoroughly explored the history of the Joker, and touched on the idea of a Gotham City without a Batman, not to mention the link between Final Crisis and RIP. 683 looks to conclude that, and put a nice finish on Morrison's epic run. Click here to read more about Batman 683!

DAREDEVIL 114 - LADY BULLSEYE CHAPTER 4! BRUBAKER'S MODERN DAY DAREDEVIL CLASSIC HAS GOT US HOOKED, AND THE NEXT INSTALLMENT IS DUE OUT THIS WEEK!

Ed Brubaker is one of our favorite writers working today. He's turned Captain America into a consistent monthly must-read, he completely fleshed out the Gotham City police department with Gotham Central (along with Greg Rucka), he (and Matt Fraction) turned Iron Fist into a relevant, and exciting character, he gives us fantastic crime noir every other month with Criminal, and now, with his Lady Bullseye story arc... he's made Daredevil into the heavyweight title it should be. In this issue, you're guaranteed more Ninjas than you can shake a katana sword at. Click here for a preview of Daredevil 114!

DARK REIGN FORECAST FOR THE WEEK OF WEDNESDAY 12/24!

Every week, we'll try to keep you guys filled in on what the big happenings are in the realm of Dark Reign. This week, the big one is going to be New Avengers 48 , with the new team roster, and the impact of Dark Reign on the New Avengers! DEFINITELY pick this one up. It's also a great jumping on point for new readers, and kicks off a brand new direction for the title.
Ms. Marvel 34 has Carol Danvers fighting her one-woman war against the CIA, and the only one to have her back in these strange and dangerous times? The Amazing Spider-Man!
And then, Secret Invasion Requiem , will be reprinting the Wasp's first appearance in Tales to Astonish 44, and the infamous Yellowjack slugging Wasp story from Avengers 213. There'll be 8 new pages of story in this one, that kind of give you a follow-up from SI 8.

IT'S A HULK-TASTIC CHRISTMAS EVE WITH HULK 9 AND SKAAR SON OF HULK 4

A double-dose of gamma-irradiated goodness can keep your fireplace warm this Christmas with the newest issue of Skaar: Son Of Hulk 4, and the new monster mash Hulk 9, and we'll even have plenty of special SANTA HULK covers. So, you want to see giant crazies beating the hell outta each other? Come get your double Hulk fix this week! Hulk 9 features a full ish of Art Adams godly artwork, and Skaar 4 gives you another dose of that gamma irradiated Conan-in-Space! There's enough axe-slaying it that you'll wanna break out your old Morbid Angel tapes to provide the soundtrack!

SPAWN 187 HITS THE SHELVES THIS WEDNESDAY! TODD MCFARLANE CONTINUES TO BREATHE NEW LIFE INTO HIS RED-HOT SERIES!
Maybe it's nostalgia, but we're loving the return of Todd McFarlane on Spawn. With Portacio on pencils, and McFarlane doing the writing and the inking, this series has slowly returned to being the fresh and exciting book it used to be. This week, issue 187 of Spawn, will be arriving, and this is the third installment of Todd McFarlane's run on Spawn.

THOR 12 MARKS 12 ISSUES FOR THIS AWESOME SERIES!

Thor has been one of the most consistent Marvel books to be hitting the stands, and JMS's run with Coipel on this series has been picking up more and more readers with every issue. Blending Asgardian lore, and legend with a modern day setting of the midwest... this interesting take on Thor and his fellow Asgardians has proven to be very interesting. In issue 12, we see Loki's manipulations begin to strongly surface, and Balder the Brave being seated as a new prince of Asgard as a result. Click here for a preview of Thor 12!

UMBRELLA ACADEMY DALLAS 2 @ THIRD EYE THIS WEDNESDAY!

The second installment of the red hot Dark Horse series from My Chemical Romance front man Gerard Way (yeah, yeah, we're not exactly mega-fans of the band either, but c'mon, the guy can write a good comic!) hits the racks, and we know you're pumped. This quirky, surreal take on the world of super-heroes is a must for fans of works such as Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS

AVAILABLE @ THIRD EYE THIS WEDNESDAY 12/17/08!

DARK REIGN HITS BIG THIS WEEK!

DARK REIGN: NEW NATION BY BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS, GREG PAK, AND MORE ONE-SHOT SETS UP THE LANDSCAPE FOR THE MARVEL HEROES IN 2009!

After the steady build of last week's Secret Invasion: Dark Reign one-shot, Marvel is following it up with a few Dark Reign-related titles this week. Dark Reign: New Nation sets up the landscape of the Marvel universe, and several exciting characters that are about to start getting more of the spotlight. Expect to find out just what the hell Nick Fury's (and his Secret Warriors) role will be in this dark new time for the Marvel Universe. It also will be spotlighting lesser known characters like the Agents of ATLAS (from the awesome miniseries a couple years ago), and Skrull Kill Krew, as well as old favorites like Hawkeye and Mockingbird, and the return of War Machine in his own ongoing series. If you're a Marvel fan, you're going to want to snag up the Dark Reign New Nation one-shot this week! Click here to read more about Dark Reign New Nation!

DARK REIGN KICKS OFF BIG WITH MIGHTY AVENGERS #20 FEATURING THOR- A MUST-NOT-MISS ISSUE OF THE AVENGERS!

Another big issue this week is Mighty Avengers #20, which features a special DARK REIGN tie-in. The aftermath of Secret Invasion has left the Marvel universe in general disarray, and with Iron Man now shamed, and practically a war criminal... the Mighty Avengers (the team he put together..) are in a state of chaos. Mighty Avengers #20 is the aftermath issue of Secret Invasion, and Marvel has said that this issue marks the bold new direction for the book. If you haven't already been keeping up with Mighty Avengers, this is a perfect jumping on point. And, hey, guess what else? You get the God of Thunder too! They're saying the ending on this one is gonna blow your minds, so lets read it this week and find out! Click here to read more about Mighty Avengers #20!

INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #8: IRON MAN: A FUGITIVE? IS HE BREAKING INTO THE LIQUOR CABINET AGAIN? DARK REIGN CASTS IT'S SHADOW UPON THE ARMORED AVENGER!

The one character that Secret Invasion seemed to have impacted the most was Iron Man, and through Norman Osborn's careful manipulations, Tony Stark has been made to look like the biggest sleazeball in the entire Marvel universe. The hints being dropped are he may even be a fugitive, responsible for war crimes.. and the real question is: Is Tony Stark hitting the bottle again? Find out in this special Dark Reign Invincible Iron Man! Click here to read more about Invincible Iron Man #8!

DEADPOOL #5 OUT THIS WEDNESDAY! MORE OF THAT MERC WITH A MOUTH MAYHEM YOU LOVE!

The new ongoing Deadpool series has been a huge hit, and the current story arc proves that even now that the Secret Invasion tie-in with the title is over, the series is still going strong. Coming out this Wednesday, is Deadpool #5 which is the second half of the two part Horror Bizness story arc. Capturing all the sick humor, and fun of the late '90s Deadpool series, and combining it with some modern Marvel magic, Deadpool is a consistently awesome monthly series! Click here to read more about Deadpool #5!

PUNISHER WAR ZONE #2 CONTINUES GARTH ENNIS AND STEVE DILLON'S AWESOME SEQUEL TO "WELCOME BACK FRANK!"

The follow-up to the fan favorite Punisher story line, Welcome Back Frank, will be giving you another weekly dose of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's sick humor and ultra-violence. Want a good weekly fix? Punisher War Zone will keep you happy for at least another four issues! Click here for a preview of Punisher War Zone #2!

SUPERMAN: NEW KRYPTON CHAPTER 8 CONTINUES THIS WEEK IN SUPERGIRL #36!

The saga of New Krypton has been one of the best Superman story arcs in forever, and everyone's been completely hooked on this epic story. And as always, we here at Third Eye are ontop of things, and ready to give you the scoop on what the latest and greatest part of New Krypton is. This week, we've got New Krypton Chapter 8, and it's happening in the pages of Supergirl #36!

ARE YOU READY FOR THE WAR OF KINGS? WAR OF KINGS SET-UP BEGINS NOW IN THE PAGES OF X-MEN: KINGBREAKER #1!

Okay, so Annihilation and Annihilation Conquest totally revamped, and revitalized the Marvel cosmic characters, and Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire made "X-Men in Space" stories cool again... and now the set up has begun for one of the most exciting new Marvel events for 2009, and that is WAR OF KINGS. Beginning here in X-Men: Kingbreaker #1, witness as Vulcan (the third Summers brother) the new emperor of the Shi'ar is beginning to expand the empire across the galaxy. And of course, there's going to be some big problems when the Shi'ar start expanding into enemy territories (especially with individuals like the Inhumans). And what about the mysterious fate of Havok, and Polaris? Tortured, and imprisoned... that's what! Anyways, don't miss out on what is surely going to be one of the bigger Marvel events of 2009, and get ready for Kingbreaker with X-Men Kingbreaker #1! Click here to read more about X-Men: Kingbreaker #1

MARVEL NOIR CONTINUES WITH SPIDER-MAN: NOIR #1 THIS WEEK!

The runaway success of the Marvel Noir stuff surprised a lot of shops, with X-Men: Noir #1 (don't worry, we have PLENTY in stock here at Third Eye for ya!) selling out and going to a second print within a week! And this week, comes the one that's surely to be one of the most popular in the line, Spider-Man: Noir! The real question is, are they ANY good? Yes! X-Men: Noir was a gritty, fun read, and the quirky concept of taking Marvel characters and setting them against a 1920s-1930s crime noir backdrop is a recipe for good stories. Just click here to read all about the success of Marvel Noir so far!
Now onto Spider-Man Noir #1.. It's 1933, and New York's overwhelmed with mobsters, corrupt cops, and more... and what does young Peter Parker do when he gets that signature spider-bite? Pick up Spider-Man: Noir #1, and find out in this pulpy new limited series! Click here to read more about Spider-Man: Noir #1!

MATT FRACTION GIVES US ANOTHER DOSE OF THOR AWESOMENESS IN THOR: GOD-SIZED THIS WEDNESDAY!

First off, if you have not yet read Ages of Thunder, Reign of Blood, and Man of War... PICK 'EM UP! We've currently got all three of these excellent Matt Fraction-penned one-shots here at the shop, and each one is a solid one-off story of Thor, Asgard, and all sorts of craziness... Fraction writes the best Thor since Simonson, and you'll find out why in these one-shots. And hey, guess what? This Wednesday we get another dose of Fraction Thor with THOR: GOD-SIZED #1 one-shot! We could go on and on about how good his Thor one-shots have been, but hey, here's a link to an interview with Fraction on THOR: GOD-SIZED, and then here's a link to a preview of THOR: GOD-SIZED #1! Go see for yourselves!

GHOST RIDER #30 - LAST STAND OF THE SPIRITS OF VENGEANCE CHAPTER 3 COMES OUT THIS WEEK!!!

Ghost Rider is the best it's been in years! For the longest time, Ghost Rider was one of those characters that's visually cool, but the writers couldn't figure out a good story to run through it. Well, now, Ghost Rider is finally more than just a character that looks cool painted on the side of your uncle's '70s-style van. Jason Aaron has introduced all sorts of cool concepts (like the idea of there being a Ghost Rider for every region of the world, in every culture, because hey, why would God only care about America? And then having those Ghost Riders reflect their religions and cultures), brought back old characters, and turned Danny Ketch into one seriously evil dude. THIRD EYE HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE: TOP TEN TRADES AND HARDCOVERS OF 2008!

THIRD EYE HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDES Presents:
Ten Must-Read Trade Paperbacks and Hardcovers of 2008!
It's the holiday season, and you're clueless on what to get yourself, or ask for from that creepy old guy in the red suit? Well, fear not, Third Eye faithful, we're going to be giving you all sorts of great top five, and top ten lists of some of the best reading you could get yourself for the holidays (or get for your favorite non-comic reading heathen friend!).

So to kick things off today, we're going to be showing you Third Eye's TOP TEN must-read trade paperbacks for 2008. What're the requirements? Well, it's got to be released in '08, and it's gotta be something you absolutely MUST read! And, as always, these are all plentifully stocked here at our shop, so you see something you like? Pop on in, and grab it, or shoot us an email, and we'll be happy to hold one for you.

10. LOCAL HC Collecting Local 1-12.

I have a feeling that Brian Wood is going to dominate this list, but there's nothing wrong with that. Local is an amazingly put together story that was released in hardcover this year. For only $30.00, you get this massive tome that has one of the best 12 issue stories you'll have read in a long time. One of the things that makes Local so unique is the painstaking amount of detail put into each panel. Ryan Kelly, the artist, worked directly from photographs sent around from fans across the country when laying out each town where the story takes place, so when you see clubs, restraunts, record shops, ect... those are REAL places.
12 Short stories all following career dreamer Megan as she travels the country, and gets into all sorts of messes. Whether it's dead end jobs, being on both ends of a creepy relationship, screwing over others, or getting screwed over herself, the stories that follow her are very reflective of the normalcy applied to a screwed up society that affects everyone that's grown up in the last two decades. Don't miss out on this one!

9. Nova: Annihilation HC - Collecting the current Nova ongoing series 1-12. Who thought that Nova could be cool?
Okay, so maybe it's because I grew up in the '90s when the Human Rocket just wasn't cutting it when you put him next to what was prevalent in my adolescent mind. Maybe that's part of the reason why I'm so blown away by the current Nova series. So, what's so great about Nova? Well, lets start at the beginning. It's the dawn of the 21st century, great new creators are springing up right and left, new concepts of storytelling are popping up more rapidly than trendy coffee bistros in Annapolis, and guess what? Not a cosmic character to be seen. The '90s had done a real number on the space-styled Marvel characters, rendering them completely, and totally LAME. And then came Annihilation, and the braintrust of Abnett and Lanning. Out of Annihilation, we got the coolest re-invention of character of this decade (with maybe the exception of Iron Fist).
Nova goes from being the happy go lucky (and extremely obnoxious) Richard Ryder to being the last remaining agent of the Nova Corps. Posessing the entire knowledge of the Nova Corps, and tasked with rebuilding the Corps, it's literally one man against an entire galaxy.
You want high-concept sci-fi space action? You got it. You want well-written character moments? You got it. You want to see old characters recharged for the new millenium? It's all here in the pages of Nova. This very nice oversized hardcover collects Nova 1-12 of the ongoing series, along with the annuals and one-shots, and it's a fantastic starting point for anyone who's looking for a good superhero fix mixed with a little sci-fi.

8. BATMAN: THE BLACK GLOVE HC collecting Batman 667-669 and 672-675.
Grant Morrison is one of the great few in comics writing. He's one of those kinds of writers, like William Burroughs, or Phillip K. Dick, where you're just as interested in the author as you are his works. And in some cases, this has an impact on how we view his work. Well, seeing the mad wizard on the pages of DC's biggest icon (sorry, Supes, but the Dark Knight has you beat these days), is definitely a treat. Starting with the Batman and Son trade paperback, Morrison began completely re-inventing the Caped Crusader for the 21st century. Moving away from the over-exaggerated darkness and psychosis of the character (which came to a head during the events of IDENTITY CRISIS), Morrison kept the darkness and tragedy but also imbued a sense of adventure and nobility into the caped crusader. Giving the book a feel that harkened back to the older Neal Adams-style Batman, where he was a dark detective, and not just a dark knight. The mid-way point between Morrison's Batman and Son and his recently ended R.I.P saga was The Black Glove.
In the Black Glove, which is my favorite of the run so far, you get two amazing stories. The first of which being the tale of the League of Batmen, where an obscure silver age story featuring a fraternity of Batmen formed by a rich philantropist are being murdered off one by one by a mysterious individual. Now, older, and mostly washed up, the League of Batmen can only go to one person for aid... the Dark Knight.
The second tale in this collection is the story of Three Batmen, which explores the idea of corrupt Gotham City officials and their solution to a city without a Batman. They physically, mentally and spiritually twist three Gotham police offers and turn them into dark fascimiles of the Dark Knight. An excellent story, and very dark in tone. This one wraps up the Black Glove collection nicely, and leads you right into RIP.
Read about it!

7. SCALPED v.3 DEAD MOTHERS TP - Collecting Scalped 12-18.
If you're not reading Scalped yet, then shame on you! Rising star Jason Aaron has crafted a story dripping in misery and despair that keeps you coming back for more. The third volume of Scalped, follows undercover FBI Agent, Dashiell Bad Horse as he searches for the to find the murderers of dead women. The story of Scalped isn't so much about what's happening in each issue, but the overall downward spiral that each and every member of the cast takes. Modern day crime noir set against the backdrop of an American Indian reservation. This is a fantastic book. The research put into the culture of it's characters, and it's settings is incredible. The art style takes a little getting used to at first, but once you've read a couple issues, you couldn't imagine it done any other way.
If you haven't read Scalped yet, grab the first trade, it's only $9.99, and will have you hooked.
Read about it.
6. The Boys volume 3: Good for the Soul trade paperback collecting The Boys #15-22
The Boys is one of our top five favorite ongoing series here at Third Eye, and we just had to make sure it got a spot on the list here. This is the latest trade paperback in Garth Ennis's amazing series about a world where Superheroes are complete power-hungry degenerates, and the individuals who are there to police them. Look, I could gush and gush about how much fun this book is, but do yourselves a favor, if you're not already reading it, GET THE FIRST TRADE. You will not be sorry, in fact, if you don't like it, we'll give you your money back! The series is THAT good.
And what'd you get in this third trade? The whole dark and dirty story behind the Seven, and their corporate masters. The 9/11 conspiracy. The secrets of the Legend, and much more.

5. WALKING DEAD volume 8 collecting up issues 43-49 of Walking Dead.
Another one that is a consistent top fiver here at Third Eye, Walking Dead never fails to dissapoint. In the most recent trade paperback collection of the series, you're treated to some of the biggest cliffhangers and reveals in the series yet. And if you're a regular reader of Walking Dead, then you know that it's ALL about the cliffhangers and twists and turns.
The more we DON'T say about this installment of everyone's favorite survival horror series, the better. Why? Cause the surprises in this one will make your head explode, and we don't want you making our's explode for ruining them!

4. Criminal v.3 Dead and Dying (collecting Criminal 2 1-3)
Ed Brubaker, writer of such modern greats as Immortal Iron Fist, Captain America, and more, has given us THE best crime comic being published today with Criminal. And this year, we saw the release of the third trade paperback in the series, which collects 1-3 of the current run. Criminal is crime comics done right. It's noir set against a believable modern backdrop, and it's extremely well done. A shared world where characters link up, but where you don't have to read EVERY story arc (although you'll want to after sampling just one), makes this a very unique, and cohesive world for stories to be told in.
The art and story drips with atmosphere, and it's one of the few comics out there nowadays that just pulls you so far into the story that you don't even realize you're almost finished an issue. I'd highly recommend checking out the most recent of the trades, and giving it a shot. Read about it.

3. The Sword v.1: Fire (collecting The Sword 1-6)
Kill Bill meets Highlander sums the Sword up pretty well. The Luna Brothers (the creative team behind Girls and Ultra) have delivered a very compelling monthly read with the Sword. Conspiracies, immortals, girl with a sword hacking and slashing people to pieces, guys getting their jaws punched off (literally), and much more make the Sword a fun, bloody read with a very interesting story full of twists and turns. A definite must!

2. Y The Last Man v.10
Some series get hyped to death, and they just don't live up to the hype. Y is not one of those series. Y is worth every single bit of hype it's been given, and if you haven't read it yet, then you need to. It's required by good comic shop law. And why is Y the Last Man v.10 number two on our list here? It's because it's THAT damn good. It's the end of the series, and it's extremely satisfying. It's extremely bittersweet, but, c'mon, aren't the best endings always that way? Trust us, if you're already reading Y, then you've been through volume 10 already, so this is more of a way for us to stress how great this series is. Pick up volume 1. Read it, love it, and you'll find yourself worked all the way up to volume 10 in no time.
Read about it.

1. Joker HC (original graphic novel)
Speaking of things that are worth the hype.. this original graphic novel from 100 Bullets writer Brian Azzarello turned out to be an amazing piece of work. The story is told through the eyes of a young man who becomes the Joker's driver after the Joker has returned from Arkham. Gotham City no longer belongs to the Joker, and we follow the Joker's path to reclaim his city by any means necessary. The character that we witness the Joker through sums up the public's views on this character perfectly. In the beginning, we (through the eyes of the character) admire the Joker for the admittedly honest way he views the world. We see his coolness, laugh at his jokes, and admire the fact that he just does not give a damn about anything. It's all those things that have ingrained him (especially over this last year) in our minds as such a pop icon. However, as the story goes on, we (and the character we're seeing the entire story through) are let more and more into the Joker's head.
While I won't say it's the first time, it's one of the VERY few times that they have portrayed the character as more than just a sadistic maniac. He is genuinely portrayed as mentally ill and criminally insane individual. Azzarello leads us down that dangerous path of sympathizing with him, and just as we're beginning to see his point of view, we're smacked in the face with what a monster the character can be. The window into the Joker's madness makes him seem like an extreme case of bipolar disorder, or manic depression, where he goes from extremes in mood quicker than you can bat an eye. You even get to see the Joker cry, and it's done well. Tell me that's not good storytelling.
Read about it.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS!!

SECRET INVASION IS OVER, AND A DARK REGIN BEGINS WITH THIS WEEK'S SECRET INVASION: DARK REIGN ONE-SHOT!

While it's a little too soon for me to be dropping spoilers on how Secret Invasion ended with last week's issue, I will say that those last three pages left all of us waiting and wanting. If you're worried about spoilers though, you may want to skip over this. Hitting the store shelves this Wednesday, the Secret Invasion: DARK REIGN one-shot sets up the entire Marvel universe for the next year. This book is probably the most single important Marvel story you could read going into 2009 in regards to how the landscape of the Marvel universe has been changed, and where things will be going. Written by Brian Michael Bendis, and illustrated by Alex Maleev, the DARK REIGN one-shot is an integral bridge between the events of Secret Invasion, and the future of the Marvel Universe. Norman Osborn is now in a position of authority and power, and the U.S government has just handed the keys to it's national defense to him, and his Thunderbolts initiative. What's this mean? The Marvel Universe is in the control of the Green Goblin, and unbeknown to others, his 'evil Illuminati' of the Hood, Namor, Dr. Doom, Emma Frost, and more.
One of the most intriguing and exciting story ideas I've seen coming for a while, I can't wait to see where things go with this. The Dark Reign banner will be on certain key Marvel books, including the highly anticipated Dark Avengers. This won't necessarily be a 8 month long event like Secret Invasion, but more of an organic setting up of the Marvel Universe for years to come. In other words, YOU GOTTA READ THIS ONE-SHOT! This sets everything up for the Marvel Universe in '09, and it's going to be off the hook! Click here for the podcast with Bendis about Dark Reign, and click here to read more about the Dark Reign one-shot!

FINAL CRISIS #5, AND FINAL CRISIS REVELATIONS #4 CONTINUE THE RAIN OF DEATH AND DESTRUCTION IN THE DCU!

The highly anticipated 5th issue in Grant Morrison's mind-bending Final Crisis event finally arrives this week. So, get ready to get your mind-blown! Morrison continues to decimate the DCU, and with issue #4's big ending... that of Darkseid giving the thumbs down on the survival of the Human race... we know we're in store for a real treat this week. More heroes enslaved to the will of the Anti-Life Equation, and the world's remaining forces of good are ready for their showdown with Darkseid's forces on the bridge to Bludhaven. And, what's up with these cave paintings of a single bolt of lightning? Is this the salvation the heroes are hoping for? Reality-altering, mind-bending madness with another issue of this great event where we Morrison is channeling his inner Kirby. Click here for a look at Final Crisis #5!

And then also arriving this week, we have Final Crisis Revelations #4, where Vandal Savage is now the living embodiment of Cain, and it's up to the Spectre to stop him. Meanwhile, the res of the heroes try to hold out in defense of a burning Gotham City. Click here to read more about Final Crisis Revelations #4!

GARTH ENNIS AND STEVE DILLON (the creators of Preacher), BRING US THE SEQUEL TO 'WELCOME BACK FRANK' WITH PUNISHER WAR ZONE #1

The writer of the red hot new series, The Boys, and his fellow Preacher co-creator, Steve Dillon, return to their Punisher creations with PUNISHER WAR ZONE #1! This limited series features the Resurrection of Ma Gnucci, and brings back all the ultraviolent, darkly humorous craziness of the original PUNISHER: WELCOME BACK FRANK world. Two mobsters piss off some gorillas at the zoo, vultures eat some appendages (of the said monsters), and Ma Gnucci is back... sans legs! Look, it's crazy, it's bloody, and it's hilarious. Give this brand new 6 part limited series a shot! You want Blood, Guts, and Ennis? Pick up Punisher War Zone #1 this Wednesday! Click here for a full preview of PUNISHER WAR ZONE #1!WHAT IF: CAPTAIN AMERICA FALLEN SON! HITS RACKS THIS WEEK!
Last week proved that the return of What If? was a huge success. Everyone was pretty pumped to pick up the first of the new series of one-shots (which we still have some in stock here at Third Eye, if you missed it!), and now this week, we've got the next big What If? with What If Fallen Son. What would happen if Iron Man took the bullet that killed Steve Rogers? What would be the case if we lived in a world where Iron Man had died, and not Captain America? This one explores what a Marvel Universe ravaged from CIVIL WAR, and the Registration Act would do if the man partially responsible was taken out. Click here for a full preview of WHAT IF CAPTAIN AMERICA FALLEN SON!
JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #27 - SPECIAL *SIGHTINGS* ISSUE MARKS THE RETURN OF THE MILESTONE UNIVERSE!
Justice League of America #27, this week, is a special *SIGHTINGS* issue (the banner DC has given certain key issues that have a significant part in the events of Final Crisis or it's aftermath) featuring the return of the Milestone Universe characters, and their introduction into regular DCU continuity. But, the Justice League is uncertain exactly who's side Icon and Hardware are on! Click here to read more about this special *SIGHTINGS* tie-in!

LEGENDARY DCU WRITER, DENNY O'NEIL, PENS THIS WEEK'S DETECTIVE COMICS 'LAST DAYS OF GOTHAM' STORY ARC!
Famous for his groundbreaking work on books like Green Arrow/Green Lantern (yes, he's the one who made Speedy a junkie), The Question, and a billion different Batman stories from days gone by, legendary DCU writer, Denny O'Neil steps back into the saddle to write this exciting new two part story arc in Detective Comics #851. 'Last Days of Gotham' explores a city that has lost it's Dark Knight, and the effects that will have on Gotham City, and it's citizens as a whole. A dark, and intriguing concept, this two-part story arc looks to carry things over pretty nicely from R.I.P. Click here to read more about Detective Comics #851!
WATCHMEN #1 - BACK IN PRINT AT IT'S ORIGINAL COVER PRICE OF $1.50!
