THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE FOR 7/1/09!

ED BRUBAKER & BRYAN HITCH'S CAPTAIN AMERICA: REBORN BEGINS THIS WEDNESDAY! MARVEL'S BIGGEST SERIES OF THE SUMMER KICKS OFF THIS WEDNESDAY AS WE SEE THE RETURN OF STEVE ROGERS

The biggest Marvel event of this summer is about to kick off this Wednesday, and where else can you come to find it, but your friends here a Third Eye! That's right, folks, Captain America #600 gave us a taste of things to come, and laid out some very important hints to the how and the what, but this Wednesday, the actual wheels are put into motion for the Return of Steve Rogers. That's right, folks, the one and only Captain America. And, man, Marvel could not have positioned a better creative team for it! Ed Brubaker & Bryan Hitch! Brubaker, as you know him, has built a solid name for himself as a superstar writer on books like CRIMINAL, INCOGNITO, CAPTAIN AMERICA (of course), DAREDEVIL, and IRON FIST, meanwhile Bryan Hitch is the insanely talented artist who helped define Marvel Comics in the 21st Century on THE ULTIMATES alongside Mark Millar. These two creators are literally a dream team, of epic proportions. And, what better book to have them on than the return of Marvel's biggest icon?
Okay, so, if you haven't already read Captain America #600 (and if you did miss it, we still have copies available at Third Eye, so be sure to snag your copy this week), then you're probably a little bit clueless as to just what the hell I'm rambling on about. Okay, okay, I'll go back a bit. First off, Ed Brubaker has been writing the best run of Captain America I've ever read. I know it's a bold statement, but since his first issue, all the way up to 50 & 600.. it's been rock solid stuff. And, with the way that Marvel has been setting up the debut of REBORN... you know it's going to be an epic read. They're saying that the things revealed in this will have huge impacts on the Marvel Universe, so there has to be more to this series than just the return of STEVE ROGERS, even though that's big enough. From what we've read of the solicits, and seen in the promos.. this is going to have lasting effects on the way Norman Osborn has been running the Marvel Universe, as well as the interaction between major villains like Dr. Doom and the rest of the Marvel Universe.
Basically.. this is the centerpiece of the Marvel Universe this year, and everything that's a big deal is going to either be happening in the pages of, or as a result of, REBORN. Trust us, folks, you do not want to miss out on this one!

BLACKEST NIGHT BEGINS PREEMPTIVELY IN THE PAGES OFGREEN LANTERN CORPS #38 THIS WEDNESDAY! DON'T MISS THE FIRST SHOTS FIRED IN WHAT WILL BE ONE OF THIS SUMMER'S BIGGEST STORIES!

This Wednesday in the pages of Green Lantern Corps #38, the pre-emptive beginning of Blackest Night is taking place. Now, while the banner across the top of the page is hitting the PRELUDE TO BLACKEST NIGHT spot still... the book has been listed on retailer invoices, and in solicitations to us as an official BLACKEST NIGHT tie-in. And, with GLC #38 being the first book marked as a BLACKEST NIGHT tie-in to be released.. we're pretty confident that this issue is going to be an important one. Our speculations? The Alpha Lanterns do some serious executions, and tally up some more Black Lanterns in waiting... and, we're expecting to see maybe some Black Lantern reveals in this issue... we're not positive on that one, but we're expecting it. Either way, this is an issue you do not want to miss as it's going to carefully lay out the foundation for this summer's Blackest Night, and leave us with all sorts of interesting tidbits of what's to come the week of July 15th. There's always those initial one or two issues before a huge series kicks off that everyone ends up kicking themselves about missing the first go around, so don't let history repeat itself on this one, folks. Blackest Night Begins Wednesday as Emerald Eclipse closes, and the doors are blown off the caskets for the Black Lanterns to rise!
Click here to read a preview of GREEN LANTERN CORPS #38!

And, just in case you've been completely out of the loop... Blackest Night is shaping up to be the biggest storyline of the summer. It has some tough competition from Marvel's REBORN, but GEOFF JOHNS has been carefully building and crafting this epic event for over 3 years now. The seeds were being laid as far back as Green Lantern Rebirth, and things really came to shape at the end of the SINESTRO CORPS WAR. And this year has been a constant steady countdown to what's to come very soon in Blackest Night. In a nutshell, Blackest Night will be nearly every dead DCU character returning to life as Black Lanterns (think crazy undead evil sinister versions of Green Lanterns)... and the list of confirmed (and some unconfirmed) Black Lanterns is getting interesting. Everyone from Dick Grayson's parents to Aquaman and The Question... the list is getting crazier and crazier. So, check this out.. go to the Blackest Night Wikipedia page by clicking here, and then for our frequent Black Lantern Watch updates (where we'll be announcing possible & confirmed Black Lanterns), you can follow us on twitter by going tohttp://www.twitter.com/thirdeyecomics

MORRISON & QUITELY'S BATMAN & ROBIN #2 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, FOLLOWING UP THE FIRST ISSUE OF ONE OF THE BEST NEW SERIES OF THIS SUMMER!

Holy crap, was Batman & Robin #1 good or what!? I had absolutely no complaints about the first issue. This is Morrison & Quitely at their finest, man. They wowed us with books like WE3 and ALL-STAR SUPERMAN, and now they're applying their streamlined post-modern kind of storytelling to Batman and Robin (a.k.a Dick Grayson/Nightwing and Batman's son Damien). The artwork is simply jawdropping, some of the best we've seen, and the story moved at a fantastic pace. While the first one was a quick read, we were just impressed at how the book kicked right into the cool stuff without any hesitation. Not to mention, Morrison already kicked things off by introducing an awesome new villain in the guise of the Pyg, a psycho in a rubber pig mask that hot glues babydoll masks to people's faces.
How cool is this series? It's so good that if you try #1, and you don't like it.. we'll give you your money back. We're behind Batman & Robin that much. Okay, okay, I know, I get carried away when I fall in love with a new book, but c'mon, folks.. try this.. it's the freshest take on Batman we've seen in a very long time, and it's rare that you get such a perfect pairing of artist and writer as you do with Morrison & Quitely. Did you miss Batman & Robin #1? Don't worry, we've still got some left here at Third Eye for you to catch up on, so be sure to snag one this week.
And, then this week, in Batman and Robin #2, the hits keep on coming as things really get crazy, and we get (what looks like from the previews) a really cool interaction between Gordon and the new Batman.. and it's all in one or two panels! Look, all I can say is this book is solid stuff. Click here to check out a preview ofBATMAN & ROBIN #2!

DEADPOOL: MERC WITH A MOUTH NEW ONGOING SERIES DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY WITH #1!

Okay, lets be honest.. can ANYONE get enough Deadpool? I don't think it's possible. I mean, c'mon.. from the way he breaks the fourth wall on the regular to the hilarious one-liners, and crazy antics... Deadpool never gets old. Lets face it.. he's a guy who kills people for money, and has a wicked sense of humor. Do we need any other reason to love him? And while I already know that all of you faithful Deadpool followers are on board the current monthly series... there's still some of you guys who came in a little late to things, and are looking for your Deadpool fix. Well, guess what, Third Eye Faithful... Marvel has delivered just that book. DEADPOOL: MERC WITH A MOUTH is a brand new ongoing series featuring Deadpool.. and.. his zombified head. It's like the Odd Couple or Perfect Strangers, but with guns, and blood.. and dinosaurs.. and cavemen.. and HYDRA... and more zombies.. and martians.. and space ships.. and Z-String Marvel characters.... oh, hell, it's the wackiest, most awesome Deadpool reading you're gonna get.

Ontop of all that, it's got Victor Gischler penning it, who is a new guy to comics that made his name on some great crime novels. And, the solid pencils of Bong Dazo make the series look like it's gonna be a surefire hit.

So, what more can we say? It's Deadpool, it's a brand new series, and we know you guys are foaming at the mouth for this one. So, do yourselves a favor, and don't miss out on it this week!

DARK X-MEN CHAPTER 2 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY AS THE NEW TEAM OF DARK X-MEN ARE REVEALED IN THIS WEEK'S UNCANNY X-MEN #513 IN THIS EPIC DARK AVENGERS vs. X-MEN crossover!

Dark X-Men kicked off with a BANG last week in the pages of the DARK AVENGERS/UNCANNY X-MEN Utopia one-shot (which we still have available in limited quantities here at Third Eye, so get your's before they go!). And this week, in the pages of UNCANNY X-MEN #513, we get the second chapter in what's shaping up to be one of the most interesting events of the Marvel Universe.
What's the whole DARK X-MEN storyline about? Basically, Norman Osborn, who already runs SHIELD as HAMMER, and the Avengers as the DARK AVENGERS, has had enough with leaving the X-Men to their own devices. He wants his own people in place to run the team, and the throwdown between his DARK AVENGERS and the X-Men is how he intends to get it. And in this very important issue, the team is revealed... we all knew Emma was going to show her true colors sooner or later, and here we go.
Who else are the DARK X-MEN? Looks like Namor, Professor X, and Mimic may be among their number... we gotta say, we're amped. The X-Titles are starting to heat up again, folks! Don't miss out!

CROSSED #6 CONTINUES GARTH ENNIS'S ULTRAVIOLENT, ULTRASICK SURVIVAL HORROR EPIC THIS WEDNESDAY!

Oh man, oh man.. a new issue of CROSSED? You bet your ass it is! By now, you've heard us ramble on and on about how much we're enjoying Garth Ennis's sick, twisted, and demented survival horror epic. For those of you who haven't already discovered the twisted, disgusting joy that is CROSSED.. here's the skinny: horrible disease breaks out turning average human beings into blood-thirsty, sadistic beings of pure evil. Not undead, not zombies.. but concious, human beings who just want to commit every atrocity you can think of. The disease can be spread, although the victims usually don't live long enough to be infected as they get torn apart often by the Crossed. Now, of course, we've got a group of non-infected that we're following who're on the run from these monsters.. and well, lets just say this is flat out the most horrifying comic book you will read this year, and maybe ever. It's just that bad. And, this Wednesday, the sixth issue in this 9 issue journey in depravity hits. And we know, that like us, you cannot wait, Third Eye Faithful. :)
Click here to read an interview with Ennis about CROSSED.

THE BOYS v.4 TRADE PAPERBACK COMES OUT ALONGSIDE THE BOYS #32! GRAB THE TRADE, CATCH UP AND HOP ONBOARD WITH ISSUE #31!

Another series that we've been championing for quite some time has been THE BOYS, by the same writer as CROSSED, Garth Ennis. This is another sickie, but goodie, folks. However, the Boys has one hell of a strong underlying story underneath all the dark humor, blood, guts, and.. well, inappropriate behavior. And, we know that there's quite a lot of you who've been following THE BOYS in trade paperback only. Well, guess what? Wednesday's your lucky day, cause the fourth trade of the series is being released. And, we know how hard it can be waiting for that next trade paperback.. we know how it kills you seeing those issues, and having to wait for the trade. Well, this week, you can snag BOYS v.4, AND issues #31, and #32 and be completely caught up on The Boys to follow as a monthly series. C'mon, you know you want to!

WAR OF KINGS #5 CONTINUES MARVEL'S HIGH OCTANE SPACE OPERA THIS WEDNESDAY!

WAR OF KINGS has definitely been the sleeper event of this season. We've gushed and gushed in these pages before about how amazing a job Abnett and Lanning have done revitalizing the cosmic characters of the Marvel Universe over the last few years, and it's all built up to the WAR OF KINGS, which has been stellar. This high impact space epic gives the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA treatment to the Marvel Universe, and trust us, it is as good as the critics are saying. War of Kings is guaranteed to be the book that many people slept on while it was coming out, but will be a consistent classic for years to come. Do yourselves a favor, and check it out. We still have all the first four issues in stock here at Third Eye!
Click here for a preview of WAR OF KINGS #5!

AFTER WATCHMEN PART 2: MORE FREE COMICS THIS WEDNESDAY FROM THIRD EYE! Y THE LAST MAN #1 ANDGREEN LANTERN REBIRTH #1, BOTH TOTALLY FREE THIS WEDNESDAY!

DC did something very cool this past Spring with the release of WATCHMEN. They re-issued the first issues of several fantastic, and influential series for people to sample at a very low cover price of only $1. And, hey, you know we love to spread the joy of good comics to you guys here at Third Eye, so we decided.. what's a $1? We're gonna give 'em away! And, now, this week, they're bringing the AFTER WATCHMEN program back. And, this week, here at Third Eye, we're going to be continuing the joy of FREE COMICS, by dishing out these two AFTER WATCHMEN books completely free. But, remember, supplies are limited, so make sure to come in on Wednesday to grab your free copies! Now, onto the free books this week!
First off, we've got BLACKEST NIGHT mastermind GEOFF JOHNS and FLASH REBIRTH artist ETHAN VAN SCIVER'S extremely important GREEN LANTERN: REBIRTH #1! This is the series that brought Hal Jordan back to life, and back into the forefront as the Green Lantern. It's also the story that laid the groundwork for what has become one of DC's highest quality ongoing monthly series. A must read! Check out the wikipedia entry on GREEN LANTERN: REBIRTH by clickinghere.
Also, dropping this Wednesday, totally free is the first issue of the highly influential, and extremely amazing Y: THE LAST MAN series. Look, all I can say is this series did for comics in the 21st century what series like Watchmen, Sandman and Preacher did for comics in the '80s and '90s. It's a simple concept. Last man on earth, right? But, man.. this is some of the smartest writing I've seen in comics... very heartfelt, very well-done. Just go read the WIKI entry on Y: The Last Man.. and then pick up the first one free, this week. Click here for the Wiki entry on Y THE LAST MAN.
And as always, if you like the freebies, we've got plenty copies of the trade paperbacks in stock on these series for you guys to hop aboard!

JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRY FOR JUSTICE #1 DEBUTS A NEW JUSTICE LEAGUE ROSTER! FROM THE CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED STARMAN WRITER, JAMES ROBINSON, AND THE AMAZING TALENTED PENCILS OF MAURO CASCIOLI

Justice League Cry for Justice begins this Wednesday, and this one is supposed to be the book that shakes things up for the Justice League and the DCU. DC looks like they're heading in the right direction with it, as they've already brought on the extremely talented writer JAMES ROBINSON to take care of the story end of things, while putting TRIALS OF SHAZAM artist Mauro Cascioli on the artwork chores. Wise choices on both. Now, the story?
Batman's dead. Martian Manhunter's dead. And, these aren't the only two heroes who've recently taken a dirt nap at the hands of the supervillains of the DCU. This is about a Justice League composed of characters like Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Shazam, Supergirl, the Atom, and Congorilla (???) who've had enough and are taking it straight to the bad guys. And, when you throw in the recently returned Prometheus (the Anti-Batman) into the mix.. you know you're in for some awesomeoness.
Click here to give the preview of JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRY FOR JUSTICE #1 a look.

LIKED UNWRITTEN? THE NEW VERTIGO SERIES, GREEK STREET #1, DEBUTS, AND IT'S ONLY $1.00!

The success of Vertigo's new series the UNWRITTEN has really proven to them that putting out the first issue of their series at $1 is a great way to get new readers into the book. And, now, this week, we're seeing their second new ongoing series GREEK STREET, which debuts at the same $1 price tag. This isn't a gimmick folks, and this isn't a trick.. it's a full 32 page comic, for only a buck. You can't beat that!
But wait, a $1 price tag isn't enough to justify the plunge, I agree.. so, let me give you the skinny on why we're stoked about Greek Street. You're from the rough end of town, you've grown up in some rough times, and now at the age of 18.. you're looking for your mom, and you find her dead at your feet. Where else to go, but Greek Street? And, that's when a whole motley crew of strippers, thugs, bodysnatchers and lost souls exist. The horrors and atrocities that graced the THEATER OF DIONYSUS in Acient Greece are played out here in the modern Red Light district of London. Tales of murder, oracles, kings, monsters and gods.. all set against a gritty backdrop. Sounds pretty cool, and you can bet that we're in on this one!

HELLBOY CREATOR MIKE MIGNOLA DEBUTS NEW CHARACTER & NEW SERIES IN THIS WEEK'S WITCHFINDER: IN THE SERVICE OF ANGELS #1!

If there's one guy who can do pulpy, creepy comic book madness right.. it's Mike Mignola, the man who created the rich mythology of Hellboy and BPRD. Think of this series as kind of a Solomon Kane meets Carnaki the Occult Detective by way of Mignola riff. Very cool sounding stuff, as we're introduced to Sir Edward Grey, an agent of the Queen of England who handles bizarre and strange cases. And, we get to see him on one of his very first cases as he takes on the Heliopic Brotherhood of Ra (think Alesteir Crowley and his OTO).
This one should be a creepy, high adventure, pulp fiction-fueled masterpiece in the making, and we're pumped. Click here to see the preview of WITCHFINDER: IN THE SERVICE OF ANGELS #1!

MESSIAH WAR AFTERMATH BEGINS IN THE PAGES OFCABLE #16 THIS WEDNESDAY!

The Messiah War came to an AWESOME conclusion last week in X-FORCE, but trust us.. things are FAR from being over, folks! This book opens literally seconds after the startling conclusion to Messiah War, and trust us, Cable's prospects for saving mutantkind aren't looking too good. In the cold, lonely depths of a brutal, unrelenting future... all Cable can do is pray that the relentless killers hunting for he and Hope don't achieve the goal they're looking for. Looks like Messiah War has set up for some really interesting storylines to kick off.

ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND #0 BEGINS THE LATEST IN ZENESCOPE'S WONDERLAND SERIES THIS WEDNESDAY!

The cutting edge crew at Zenescope Entertainment brings the third installment in their ultra-popular, and ultra-hot Wonderland series. Zenescope has given us a very twisted look at the world of Alice in Wonderland with some extremely twisted ideas and concepts. Not to mention, these guys never skimp on the artwork. And, this Wednesday, from the Wonderland creative team of Raven Gregory and Andy Leister. So, for all your twisted Wonderland meets Lovecraft mayhem, you know that Zenescope is the name to trust for that kind of madness!
Click here to read an interview with Raven Gregory about ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND!

FANTASTIC FOUR #568 *MASTERS OF DOOM CHAPTER 3*THE NEW DR. DOOM HAS BEEN REVEALED!

Man, the last page of last week's FANTASTIC FOUR #567 was one hell of an end! Since issue #566, Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch have been exploring an awesome little story arc on FF with their MASTERS OF DOOM run. The plot? The Marquis of Death, Dr. Doom's mentor, has been welcomed into our dimension by Doom.. and well, the Marquis of Death is NOT happy with Doom's ability to inspire fear throughout the world. So, SPOILERS... he throws Dr. Doom to a shark, takes his faceplate and becomes the new Dr. Doom. /SPOILERS. And now, well, the FF and the Marvel Universe have to deal with a pretty serious threat to deal with. All this, AND, Mark Millar has said that his run on Fantastic Four, his miniseries from last summer 1985, and the ultrahot, must-read OLD MAN LOGAN story arc are all supposed to connect in some shape or form. Well, we've seen some hints pop up from the books in other books, and we think we may have an idea on where this is all going to go, but we're still not sure how he plans to wrap the whole thing up. What we do know is that MASTERS OF DOOM is one hell of a killer arc, and you should be reading this, FF fan or not.

STAR WARS INVASION #1 KICKS OFF THIS WEDNESDAY BRINGING US THE NEXT BIG STORYLINE TO ROCK THE GALAXY! AND YES, IT'S GOT LUKE SKYWALKER!

Man, it's been some rocky times being a Star Wars fan in the last ten years. I mean, I remember back in the '90s, when it was a rich, glorious time for Star Wars Expanded Universe fiction. Tons of interesting stories featuring the characters we really cared about, and new characters that intrigued us. And, then came the prequels. Okay, so I think everyone knows that a good deal of people weren't too big on those... I won't beat that dead horse, but.. the worst part of all that? It seems like the only Expanded Universe stories we get anymore center around stuff spun out of the Prequel mythologies.
But, holy crap, it looks like we're gonna be getting an awesome story featuring key Trilogy characters with this new STAR WARS INVASION event... basically, 25 years after the BATTLE OF YAVIN (A NEW HOPE), a hostile invading force of aliens called the Yuuzhan Vong are trying to dominate the galaxy, and it's up to Luke Skywalker and the New Republic to stand against them. This sounds totally rad, and we're pretty damn stoked.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE FOR 6/24/09!

IT'S DARK REIGNING ALL WEEK AT THIRD EYE THIS WEEK!

DARK X-MEN BEGINS THIS WEDNESDAY WITH DARK AVENGERS/UNCANNY X-MEN UTOPIA #1 BY SUPERSTAR MATT FRACTION & MODERN MASTER MARC SILVESTRI!

One of the most exciting events of this summer for us is the formation of a "Dark X-Men" team. We've been completely stoked on what's been going on in the pages of Dark Avengers every month, and to think that the X-Men books are going to get the same unique twist has us foaming at the mouth with anticipation. And, to be honest, outside of the going ons in the recent Messiah War story arc, it's been a while since Marvel's merry mutants have been properly integrated into the Marvel Universe. While we've dug what Fraction has been delivering on Uncanny, we feel that the X-Books have lacked a feeling of "importance" that some of Marvel's other key books have had for the last couple of years. Well, now, things are about to get a whole heck of a lot more "important" for the X-Men, as Norman Osborn sets his sights on reigning in the X-Men, and putting his own mutants into place. The foundations for the Dark X-Men begin here, Third Eye faithful, this Wednesday, in the pages of DARK AVENGERS/UNCANNY X-MEN UTOPIA #1!
And, we haven't even begun to tell you guys about the stellar creative team that's going to be kicking things off for us.. first off, we've got the amazingly talented Matt Fraction that wows us every month on Invincible Iron Man, helped re-invent Iron Fist alongside Ed Brubaker, and has been making Uncanny a solid read for the last year.. and then secondly, we've got a modern master of comic book artwork, Marc Silvestri, returning. If you're following the mainline Marvel U, then you do NOT want to miss out on Dark X-Men this summer. Everything we've seen looks stellar, and we're pumped to read it this Wednesday!

DARK AVENGERS #6 SHOWS NORMAN OSBORN BEGINNING TO CRACK! PLUS THE NEW SORCERER SUPREME IS CHOSEN IN THE PAGES OF THIS WEEK'S NEW AVENGERS #54!

Dark Reign is going to be slamming this week, and not only do we get the big Dark Avengers/Uncanny X-Men Utopia crossover, but we're also due for another slab of the awesomeness that is the regular DARK AVENGERS ongoing series. We've been loving every single issue of Marvel's new Dark Avengers series, and it's been consistently a fantastic read. The dynamic duo of writer Brian Michael Bendis, and Mike Deodato Jr have made the book a creative standout this year. And, lets face it, bad guys are always just plain rad. This Wednesday, the solicits promise that we're going to see Osborn beginning to lose his cool, and there's a curious looking cover image of Marvel Boy going to head with a very Symbiote-esque looking character. We know you're pumped, we know we're pumped. Make sure you grab your Dark Avengers #6 along with your DARK AVENGERS/UNCANNY X-MEN UTOPIA #1 this Wednesday!
Click here to read a preview of DARK AVENGERS #6!
And, we can't have the Dark Avengers without the New Avengers, right? Set to hit this week, we've also got the conclusion to the WHO IS THE NEW SORCERER SUPREME storyline that's been running through the pages of NEW AVENGERS. Yes, this week, the new Sorcerer Supreme is chosen, and we're on our way to finding out just what the hell the scoop on who this is going to be. This one's gonna be a key issue in the lore of the Avengers, not to mention the entire direction of the Magic characters of the Marvel Universe. DARK REIGN: ZODIAC #1 & DARK REIGN LETHAL LEGION #1 BOTH BEGIN THIS WEDNESDAY, FEATURING THE NEW FACE OF MARVEL SUPERVILLAINS! COULD ZODIAC BE THE MARVEL'S EQUIVALENT TO THE JOKER?

And if you thought that double whammy above wasn't enough, there's two new Dark Reign limited series kicking off this week which promise to give us a look at the future of the supervillain in a Marvel universe where the bad guys are the ones in charge. Dark Reign Zodiac is the debut of a new supervillain (or supervillains) who represents the "new breed of supervillain" in the world of Norman Osborn. The original Zodiac were an old supervillain team in the Avengers, where each gang member took on the symbolism of a Zodiac sign. Basically, from the sounds of this modern incarnation of the Zodiac.. it's about supervillains who can't be bought, or sold. You know, the kind who just like to see the world burn? Sound familiar? Yup, that's what we're thinking this is going to be, and to be honest... we're stoked! I mean, both companies swipe from each other all the time, and if it's good.. then it means that we see an interesting take on a modern comic book archetype, and if it's bad, well, it usually gets forgotten about. Series writer, Joe Casey, promises that the Dark Reign Zodiac miniseries will introduce this new breed of supervillain, and will definitely leave behind something that's going to stick around after Dark Reign ends. He promises it's some of the most brutal stuff he's ever written. We can't friggin wait to give it a look! Click here to read an interview with Casey about DARK REIGN ZODIAC #1!

Also dropping this week is DARK REIGN LETHAL LEGION, which I'm just as pumped for. This one is kind of an interesting little twist on the whole Dark Reign concept. What about the supervillains who don't buy into Osborn's Join Me Or Die thing? What about the supervillains that Osborn deemed you know, a little too lame to be included? Well, that's where the Lethal Legion comes in. Fans of obscure supervillains, and ironic twists on superhero (or supervillain)archetypes, take notice, this one looks like it's going to be pretty darn entertaining. The Grim Reaper, Nekra, Absorbing Man, Mr. Hyde, and last but not least.. Man-Ape, all play a big part in the formation of the Lethal Legion. And, apparently, the whole miniseries takes place in prison? Expect a gritty Oz Meets Dark Reign kind of take on the Marvel supervillains. DARK REIGN SINISTER SPIDER-MAN #1 DEBUTS NEW SERIES FOR VENOM, WITH AMAZING ARTWORK BY CHRIS BACHALO

Sick, and depraved maniacs like Mac Gargan, the current host of the Venom symbiote have never really felt the limelight until Dark Reign. Now, they're beloved heroes, and the world is their's for the taking. This new series, the Sinister Spider-Man, delivers we get to see Osborn giving the public their new Spider-Man. Not to mention, we'll be seeing how this new Spider-man deals with the fact that the symbiote's appetite is not lessening one bit. Chris Bachalo delivers some surreal, and creepy artwork that fit the character perfectly, and from what we've seen of the previews pages, this one's going to be a big surprise hit. DARK WOLVERINE BEGINS THIS WEDNESDAY IN THE PAGES OF DARK WOLVERINE #75!

And, as if it wasn't already enough that we're seeing the kick-off of the Sinister Spider-man... Marvel is going to be delivering the first issue in the Dark Wolverine run. Daken's got it all now that he's a Dark Avenger, but he's also shackled with the identity he hates: his dear old dad's. How does Daken deal with the weight of being Wolverine? What moves will he make while he's granted these liberties? This one looks like it's going to be big, folks, so don't miss it. Plus, we're actually kind of surprised by how much we're digging the preview pages. We were a little iffy on the title switching over to being Dark Wolverine, but the preview pages make it look VERY interesting. Plus, the art is top notch, and that does go a long way in making a book a fun read. We know it's not OLD MAN LOGAN (still waiting on the conclusion, don't worry, folks, Marvel should have it out soon!), but it looks like a unique, and new direction for the book, and we think it's going to be worth checking out. DARK REIGN: THE HOOD #2 FOLLOWS UP AN IMPRESSIVE FIRST ISSUE!

As a character that gets our vote for one of the best villains of this decade, the new Hood limited series really left a good impression on us. Solid writing, and perfectly fitting artwork made this one into a great new limited series to fall under the Dark Reign banner, and we're excited to see the motivations of this character fleshed out. We're stoked that the series has kicked off with a stellar start, and this week, the second installment will be arriving. The Hood's getting bigger and bigger, I mean, c'mon, meetings with Dr. Doom? But, what happens when you get big? Everyone wants a piece of the pie. Click here to read more about DARK REIGN: THE HOOD #2!

DETECTIVE COMICS #854 BEGINS THE NEW DIRECTION OF THE SERIES, AS BATWOMAN GETS HER OWN SERIES & THE QUESTION GETS A SPECIAL BACK-UP FEATURE!

Man, has DC been hitting it out of the park week after week with all the new Batman books or what? I've been so impressed with all the new debuts in the line, that I just don't know where they're going to take us next. Well, actually, I do know... they're taking us into the world of Kate Kane, Batwoman, and with J.H Williams III (Promethea, Batman: The Black Glove, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) on the art chores... this one's going to be a big hit, we can already tell. First off, it's being penned by Greg Rucka, who is no slouch at scripting a good story with a strong female lead (take a look at Queen & Country or Whiteout, if you think I'm wrong), and then, the art is being provided by the EXTREMELY talented JH Williams III, who delivered the trippy settings and surroundings of the Black Glove League of Batmen storyline. Not to mention, the awesome work he's dished out over the last couple decades on books like Promethea with Alan Moore and Desolation Jones with Warren Ellis.
What's the scoop on Batwoman? Making her return in the pages of 52 (or her debut, whichever you prefer), Kate Kane, had an interesting storyline that revealed her romantic involvement with the current Question & former Gotham City Police Officer, Renee Montoya. The dynamic between the characters, and development of them throughout 52 was definitely a high point in the series. And now, in the pages of Detective Comics, we get to see Batwoman taking her role as one of Gotham City's guardians. But wait, that's not all! Renee Montoya returns as the Question in her own back-up stories in every issue of Detective Comics. So, you're getting double the awesomeoness in one comic! Click here to read an interview with JH Williams about Detective Comics, Batwoman, and also to see some concept art for the new run!

BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES CREATOR, PAUL DINI, DELIVERS HIS OTHER NEW ONGOING BATMAN SERIES, SIRENS OF GOTHAM CITY #1, THIS WEDNESDAY!

Streets of Gotham was a great read last week, and now, Mr. Paul Dini, has another new ongoing Batman series he's kicking off for us. One that's going to feature the toughest chicks in all of Gotham. Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn star in this new Birds of Prey-gone-Bad looking title that fits into the current roster of Batman:Reborn stuff. What is the agenda that these lethal ladies have, and what side of the law does it put them on? In a Gotham where there's no caped crusader looking over the innocent, and the not so innocent... they're going to do things their way, and their way only. Take a look at the preview pages, these look gorgeous, and we all know that Paul Dini excels at writing the Gotham Femme Fatales.. who can forget the memorable teaming of Harley and Ivy in Batman: the Animated Series? Click here to check out a preview of BATMAN: SIRENS OF GOTHAM CITY #1!

VIKING #2 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY AS THE EXCITING FOLLOW-UP ISSUE IN THIS BRAND NEW CULT HIT FROM IMAGE COMICS! THIS ONE IS A CLASSIC IN THE MAKING AS THE WORLD OF ORGANIZED CRIME IN THE 9th CENTURY IS EXPLORED!

One thing that's been so refreshing about the comics industry in the last few years is the ability for unknown and unseen talents to rise up out of nowhere and take the world of comics by storm. Nowhere else in any form of entertainment can you find that nowadays. Even in the world of music, it's impossible for someone who's relatively unknown to make an impact based upon their own talent alone. Nothing demonstrates this fact more than the huge success of Image's brand new VIKING ongoing series, which we're betting is going to turn out to be the next in a prestigious line of critically acclaimed series like THE WALKING DEAD and INVINCIBLE. Everything from the lush, painted artwork, to the unique format of the book, to the dynamite concept (it's about two brothers in the 9th century rising through the ranks of a criminal underworld.. think Sopranos with Vikings)... this book has got it all. While the first issue was a big set-up book, and moved a little slow, we URGE you guys to give this second one a shot, as things REALLY kick into high gear now that we've seen the characters introduced. If you missed out on the first issue of this one, don't sleep on this series! We still have copies of #1 in stock, so hop aboard! Click here to read a preview of VIKING #2!

GREEN LANTERN #42 CONCLUDES AGENT ORANGE THIS WEEK IN AGENT ORANGE CHAPTER 4! THE PATH TO BLACKEST NIGHT HAS BEEN SET IN THIS FANTASTIC PRELUDE!

I swear, man, there is so many good titles coming out this week, I can't keep track. The Green Lantern books from Geoff Johns have been some of the most rock solid DC Comics reading for consistently the last few years. He's been weaving one hell of a story, and setting up for some epic key moments in the panels of every issue. As the AGENT ORANGE saga comes to an explosive finale in the pages of this week's GREEN LANTERN #42, we cannot wait to see how things end up.. because you know what's next, right? BLACKEST freakin' NIGHT! Trust us, folks, you do not want to miss out on the greatness that has been the Green Lantern monthly ongoing series. We're serious, each arc has been more epic than the last, and with Blackest Night right around the corner, now is the perfect opportunity for you to catch up. And, hey, did you miss the first few chapters of AGENT ORANGE? Don't sweat it! We've got plenty of GREEN LANTERN #39, #40, and #41 in stock here at Third Eye to catch you up. Not to mention, the previous arc, RAGE OF THE RED LANTERNS, which we have also in it's entirety. So, what're you waiting for? Find out why Green Lantern and Blackest Night are some of this summer's biggest must-read titles! Click here for a preview of GREEN LANTERN #42!

SCALPED WRITER JASON AARON'S WOLVERINE: WEAPON X #3 *THE ADAMANTIUM MEN PT 3* FOLLOWS UP ON THE JAW-DROPPING CONCLUSION OF #2! THIS BRAND NEW ONGOING WOLVERINE SERIES CONTINUES TO KICK OUT THE JAMS!

Wolverine: Weapon X, the new ongoing series from SCALPED writer Jason Aaron and artist Ron Garney, has been following through on every goal it's set out to accomplish. A balls to the wall, over-the-top self-contained ongoing series for Wolverine that doesn't shy away from the bloodshed, and delivers an almost Punisher MAX-style treatment to the character. The best way I can describe it, is it's the perfect modern day spiritual successor to Chris Claremont & Frank Miller's classic Wolverine stories. Brutal, unrelenting, and dripping with all of the shadowy corners of Wolverine's world that have been going unexplored these last few years... this one has got it all. And, after reading last month's issue, with that rock-n-roll last page... we're pumped to see where things are going to go next. The saga of the Adamantium Men continues this week, as the soldiers of Strikeforce X have Wolverine trapped in the jungles of Colombia.
Jason Aaron is a talented writer, and he's delivering some fantastic story on this series, and Ron Garney's pencils are a rock solid perfect match. Click here to read Wolverine: Weapon X #3!

FREDDY VS JASON VS ASH: NIGHTMARE WARRIORS #1 DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY WITH THREE OF HORROR'S BIGGEST ICONS DUKING IT OUT!

When Wildstorm originally rolled out the Freddy vs Jason vs Ash series... we were extremely skeptical. I mean, outside of comic books, horror movies are one of our biggest passions here at Third Eye, and lets face it, it's rare that they take fright titans like Freddy or Jason and use them appropriately in the comics, let alone, a three way triple threat of Jason.. Freddy.. and Ash. But wait, we, along with MANY others, were completely blown away by how much fun Freddy vs Jason vs Ash turned out to be. And now, this Wednesday, we get FREDDY VS JASON VS ASH: NIGHTMARE WARRIORS, providing the perfect spot for new fans to jump aboard, or fans of the original limited series to return.
Don't expect an over the top in-depth plot... this one's a bloodfest full of fun, and homages galore to horror films of the past. The Necromonicon unleashes some banished souls, including a certain serial killer by the name of Freddy. And, where does the mysterious Jason Vorhees fit into this equation? Best of all.. Ash is at the center of the madness! Don't miss out on this one, folks, it looks to be a must read! Click here to check out a preview of FREDDY VS JASON VS ASH NIGHTMARE WARRIORS #1!

SECRET WARRIORS #5 FROM BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS, JONATHAN HICKMAN & STEFANO CASELLI ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY!

The conclusion to the first arc in what's gotten our vote as one of the best new ongoing series in 2009 hits this Wednesday in the pages of SECRET WARRIORS #5! It's a bloody, and brutal battle between HAMMER, HYDRA, rogue SHIELD agents, and the Howling Commandos! This issue, and the events within, will set up key elements of the global power structure that exists within the Marvel Universe. You want to read the best damn sleeper title Marvel's got? Secret Warriors is it. While Bendis is helping plot, we can completely tell that it's really rising star newcomer Jonathan Hickman who's stealing the show with every issue. His action sequences are some of the best we've seen, and when you combine it with Caselli's cinematic art style... Secret Warriors is just plain made of win, time and time again. Why do we dig it so much? Well, it's the perfect blend of comic book superhero action with espionage and suspense. Everything is handled extremely well, and Hickman's extreme attention to detailed storytelling has given the series so many layers in just the past four issues, that we can't wait to see what he does with a full year on this bad boy! This new one ends the current arc, and sets up for some big things. We can't wait to see what!

Haven't tried the series yet? Snag up a copy of #1, and be prepared for one of the coolest reveals in comics that we've seen in a while. Click here to read a preview of SECRET WARRIORS #5!

PREDATOR #1 DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY! BLOODY BIG GAME HUNTERS GALORE AS DARK HORSE BRINGS A RETURN TO GOOD OLD FASHIONED PREDATOR STORYTELLING!

First, Dark Horse brought back ALIENS in a new series that completely blew us away. I mean, c'mon, any of us who grew up as comic fans in the past 10, 15 years, we all remember finding the random bits and pieces of ALIENS and PREDATOR story arcs on the racks. For their time, they were some of the darkest, goriest stuff we'd seen. Now, granted, this was before the shift in comics came in the late '90s, but still.. there were some damn good stories featuring both of our favorite cinematic intergalactic beasts. And, we'll be honest, a big part of why we're so stoked on these is because of the nostalgia factor. But, don't be fooled, folks.. if the first issue of the ALIENS series was any proof, we're in for a treat with the new PREDATOR limited series from DARK HORSE. The same writer who delivered the goods on ALIENS, John Arcudi, will be penning the new PREDATOR limited series. And it promises to give us two warring clans of Predators going head to head in the Third World of Earth.
C'mon, folks, you know this one sounds too cool for school, so don't miss out this Wednesday! Click here to read a preview of PREDATOR #1!

THOR #602 BRINGS THE THUNDER THIS WEDNESDAY AS ASGARD'S IN TURMOIL!

Thor's another one of those consistently fantastic ongoing series that we always see as a big treat when it pops up on our shipping this week list. And, after the events of THOR #600 set up the new direction of the series.. we're completely and totally on the edge of our seats to find out where things go next. Loki's in league with Doom, and Asgard is in turmoil. Who can Thor trust, and how will they assist him as Loki's deceitful machinations develop even further.
For those of you who're not currently reading Thor, we still have a limited amount of #600 along with #601 in stock, and it's a great jumping on point to the series. The writing on the series has been top notch as Supreme Power's J.Michael Straczynski delivers a fresh, and accessible take on the God Of Thunder while being careful to not remove him from all the awe-inspiring Asgardian settings. In fact, part of what has made Thor such a fun read for me is the unique way it makes you feel as if you're a normal person witnessing these mystical characters descending onto our Earth. JMS has captured that sense of awe perfectly, and blended it with the regular Marvel Universe to make a consistent, unique, and compelling read. Click here to check out a preview of THOR #602!

X-FORCE #16 *MESSIAH WAR CHAPTER 7* THE MESSIAH WAR CONCLUDES THIS WEEK... IS ALL DOOMED? THE END ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY AT THIRD EYE!

The Messiah War has been raging on, and we've been coming back week after week for more and more. This is the perfect example of how Marvel, specifically writers like Christopher Yost & Craig Kyle, are able to take some of the slightly less cool elements of comics from 10, 15 years ago, and turn the ideas and concepts on their heads. I mean, who would've figured that Stryfe could be such a freaking epic villain? Well, this week, it's the big one, folks, the conclusion to the hottest X-Men crossover since MESSIAH COMPLEX. Messiah War concludes in the pages of X-Force #16, and we know you guys are dying to find out what the conclusion is. Why do we know this? Because WE'RE dying to find out what the conclusion is! Need to catch up? We still have limited amounts of all chapters of MESSIAH WAR in stock, so be sure to scoop up what you need here at Third Eye, and not miss out on one of the best story arcs this summer! Click here to read a preview of X-FORCE #16 *MESSIAH WAR PT 7*

TONS OF GREAT NEW TRADE PAPERBACKS HITTING THIS WEEK! CITY OF DUST, TALES OF THE SINESTRO CORPS WAR, ALL-STAR BATMAN & ROBIN,IRON FIST v.4, DRESDEN FILES STORM FRONT, MORRISON'S JLA v.2 HC, & MORE!

There's a ton of great new graphic novels and trade paperbacks hitting this Wednesday as well, so we figured we'd do a quick spotlight on some of the big ones you should keep an eye out for. And, don't forget, the FINAL CRISIS hardcover is now available at Third Eye, and man, what a beautiful book it is.. the entire 7 issue limited series, along with all the Morrison penned one-shots, all put into the proper reading order that Morrison had in mind. Great stuff! Anyways, onto what we got this week for ya!
First off, CITY OF DUST by Steve Niles from Radical Publishing delivers an awesome Blade Runner meets 1984 by way of Monster Squad story. This cyberpunk noir against a Universal monsters-esque backdrop was a big hit last year here at Third Eye, and we really can't recommend it enough.
Next up, we've got TALES OF THE SINESTRO CORPS WAR, which is the softcover collection of all the one-shots and back-ups that flesh out the sinister Sinestro Corps. Want to know the backstory on Cyborg Superman and why he has done what he's done? Want to find out what's up with Kyle Rayner and his transformation into Parallax? This book's got the answers.
Then, we can't forget the infamous ALL-STAR BATMAN & ROBIN from Frank Miller & Jim Lee, now available in softcover. This series may only come out once every blue moon, but Frank Miller's "golden age distilled into modern age" madman take on the Dark Knight keeps us coming back every time. Oh, and we can't deny that Jim Lee's gorgeous artwork has a thing or two to do with that as well. It may not be for everybody, but c'mon, who doesn't get a kick out of Batman painting himself, and dwellings yellow, while drinking Lemonaide, just to taunt the Green Lantern, cool? Trust us. It's edgy, and it's over the top, but still a fun read.
And then, criminally underrated Marvel series Iron Fist gets it's fourth installment from fantastic crime noir writer Duane Swierczynski. Find out why this perfect blend of Shaw Brothers Kung Fu, Street Fighter II, and the Marvel Universe keeps us coming back again and again.
Of course, we can't forget all the Jim Butcher fans out there. A new Dresden Files hardcover hits this week, featuring the recent STORM FRONT limited series.
And, to top it off.. we've got the second slab of killer reads in the form of Grant Morrison's JLA v.2 DELUXE edition. These oversized hardcovers collecting big chunks of Grant Morrison and Howard Porter's influential run on the Justice League are a must-read, if you haven't already. They feature a "Big 7" line-up, and I'll be honest. It wasn't until I read Morrison's JLA that I was a fan of the team. Great stuff.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE FOR 6/17/09

CAPTAIN AMERICA #600 AVAILABLE NOW AT THIRD EYE COMICS

That's right, folks, the biggest book of June is now available here at Third Eye Comics. They arrived in here on Wednesday, and we're going through them quick. If you need us to hold you a copy, then please get in touch with us, and we'll set one aside. What's the deal with Cap #600? Well, if you missed our e-mail from last night, here's a short summary: it's the integral set-up book for this summer's red hot REBORN limited series from Marvel Comics. Marvel has gone on record as saying that REBORN will be their big book this summer, and with the creative team of ED BRUBAKER & BRYAN HITCH, we know they mean business. What's the book about? Well, without giving away too many spoilers, here's my impression: it sets up the HOW of the big event, and opens up a lot of interesting questions as to just what the WHAT will be. What is Cap #600's deal? It's not a gimmick book, but a very good, solid read, that anyone who's been following comics will surely enjoy. We highly recommend it, and I'm going out on a limb to say it's some of Brubaker's finest Cap writing. They even packed in a little reprint material, but it's GOOD reprint material, not the lame kind you usually get to pad out a giant-size special.

As for REBORN, make sure to get in touch with us about adding it to your list now, as the first issue ships on July 1st, and this book is sure to be some of the hottest comic book awesomeness to hit this summer. So, make sure you pick up your copy of Captain America #600 to get you ready for REBORN this summer. You are not going to want to miss this key issue that sets up the landscape of the Marvel Universe for the rest of 2009, and 2010. It's not big in a jaw-dropping, oh my god big surprise sense, but big in a laying the groundwork for very important things to come. Trust me, folks, it's a stellar read that touches all corners of the Marvel Universe, and you're going to want to have your own copy.

INCOGNITO #4 - BRUBAKER'S APOCALYPTIC PULP NOIR MASTERPIECE ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, ALONGSIDE THE SLEEPER SEASON 1 TRADE PAPERBACK

Not only do we have a big slab of Brubaker coming at you in the pages of CAPTAIN AMERICA #600, but we've got two more great works by this uber-talented writer hitting on Wednesday as well. First off, is the uber-popular superhero noir story INCOGNITO, that he's been doing alongside CRIMINAL artist Sean Phillips. Incognito is some of the BEST storytelling we've read in comics in a very long time, and it's kept us on the edges of our seat for the past few months. Incognito is the story of a supervillain who's been living in Witness Protection, and after quickly becoming bored with his mundane 9-5 existence, he finds his powers returning. He goes out, one last time, to give his powers a shot, for old time's sake.. and he inadvertently saves a woman's life, just to be able to feel the rush of violence again. A twisted, dark look at the world of superhumans, Incognito is one of our favorite reads here at Third Eye, and if you haven't already jumped aboard, be sure to snag the INCOGNITO must-have which collects issues #1 & #2 this Wednesday. You WON'T be disappointed! This is what Brubaker is calling the "Most Twisted Look At Supervillains You've Ever Read!"
For those of you who've already been following Incognito, then you already know you're in for one hell of an over-the-top thrillride dripping in moody atmosphere, and over-the-top film noir awesomeness, and you're just as anxious for this fourth issue as we are here at Third Eye.

SLEEPER Season 1 also arrives this week from the same creative team that's bringing you INCOGNITO, and CRIMINAL, Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. Sleeper is an often overlooked, highly underrated series from a few years back that's been long out of print. Think of Sleeper as a prelude to INCOGNITO. Very similar themes, and concepts are explored here as the genres of crime noir and superhero serial fiction are blended seamlessly and crafted together into one hell of a good read. Holden Carver is on a mission to infiltrate a secret criminal organization with it's foundations built on superhumans. He's lost contact with his agency, and gets more and more wrapped up in the dark world of crime he's fallen into. Sleeper's a solid read, and any fan of CRIMINAL or INCOGNITO should give this one a read. Click here to read more about SLEEPER SEASON ONE.

BATMAN: STREETS OF GOTHAM #1 DEBUTS THIS WEEK, AND CONTINUES THE NEW DIRECTION OF THE BATMAN TITLES! PLUS, IT'S WRITTEN BY PAUL DINI, THE MAN BEHIND THE CLASSIC BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES FROM THE '90s!

Now, allow me a quick indulgence before we kick off into talking about this exciting new ongoing series in the Batman family of titles. Paul Dini, is one half of the creative braintrust responsible for what I feel is not just the BEST Batman cartoon series, but the BEST Superhero cartoon series, Batman: the Animated Series. He and Bruce Timm redefined what it animated series based off comic books were all about. Not to mention, they introduced several storyline elements and characters that would be incorporated into the regular DCU continuity. And, whenever Dini comes aboard a Batman title, you know you're in for some serious detective-oriented Batman storytelling.
With the new ongoing, Batman: Streets of Gotham ongoing series, Dini and rock solid artist Dustin Nguyen, are going to be delivering the street-level view of the new Batman, and his effects on Gotham as a whole. Fans of Gotham Central, will especially want to give this one a look, as it promises to deliver the perspective of the Gotham City PD, which is always very interesting, considering the rich amount of supporting cast it's built over the years. But, this isn't just a book about GCPD, but, the entire city of Gotham, and how it's interacting with Dick Grayson as the new Batman. Now, the city doesn't know who the new caped crusader is, but they know... that there is something different about the Dark Knight. In this series, Dini will explore a very gritty, street-level Gotham City, and we know he'll be throwing his own detective-oriented style of storytelling onto the new caped crusader. In other words, Bat-fans, this one's gonna be a must read, and it looks very good.

DESTROYER #3 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY AT THIRD EYE, WITH ROBERT KIRKMAN (of WALKING DEAD fame) DELIVERING EVEN MORE BLOOD, GUTS, & BRUTALITY IN THE PAGES OF THIS AWESOME MAX SERIES!

There's some creative teams that are just the perfect synergy of art and story, and Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker are definitely one of those teams. They go together like Peanut Butter & Jelly, Beer & Cigarettes, and Motorhead & Speeding Tickets. Seriously though, they work very well together. And they've been dropping our jaws with every issue of Kirkman's ultraviolent superhero yarn, DESTROYER, which has brought an old Invaders character out of obscurity and into the gory spotlight. This series has been, by far, some of the goriest stuff Kirkman's ever wrote. The concept? It's an aging vigilante who's dying, and decides it's his mission to eliminate all of his old foes.. by any means necessary. This means we've seen hearts ripped out, heads punched through, and even disembowelments with the butt of a rifle. How cool is that? And this week, it's DESTROYER vs. his arch-enemy, THE SCAR. You know you're pumped! Curious about Destroyer? We still have a very limited amount of #1 left, so hop on before it's too late to get caught up!

It's a big week for Dark Reign books, folks! They're really putting out some of the higher caliber Dark Reign books this week, and we're pretty pumepd to see the directions Marvel's taking with the different titles. The top of the list, of course, is the current Punisher ongoing series which has been out of this world amazing. Rick Remender has been proving month after month that you can still explore a fresh, and exciting take on a character like Punisher who's often been overexposed in the past. This is the best Punisher run we've read since Garth Ennis's fantastic Punisher MAX run, and we're completely stoked to say that this new story arc kicking off which is escalating the war between the Punisher and the Hood looks to be a good one. If you want to catch up on your Punisher, fear not, we currently have all issues, 1-5 still in stock (but they're going fast), so check it out this week at Third Eye!
Next up on the Dark Reign list this week is the third installment of DARK REIGN: HAWKEYE #3, which has been one of the big stand-out Dark Reign limited series. I mean, come on, it's BULLSEYE'S own limited series, and we get to see him running around dressed as Hawkeye and killing the hell out of people. How can you not love it? But, now, the heroic guise is starting to slip, and Bullseye's homicidal mental state is becoming more obvious... how's ol' image-conscious Norman Osborn gonna handle this?
Also, kicking off this Wednesday is the first issue of the DARK REIGN: Mister Negative series which kicks off this week in DARK REIGN: MISTER NEGATIVE #1. Now, we all know how much I hate a lot of what came out of Brand New Day. And, I'll admit, I really haven't been taken by this Mister Negative guy. HOWEVER, this series features the talented pens of Fred Van Lente, and a new artist who's pencils have really impressed me. Not to mention, it's pretty much the Hood vs. Mr. Negative's NY criminal underworld.
And, we've also got the fourth issue of Jonathan Hickman's surprisingly awesome DARK REIGN: FANTASTIC FOUR #4, the follow up issue in DARK REIGN YOUNG AVENGERS #2, and MIGHTY AVENGERS #26! It's a good week for Dark Reign stuff, folks! So, don't miss out!

THE BOYS: HEROGASM #2 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH MORE OF GARTH ENNIS'S SUPERPOWERED DEBAUCHERY & HIS CLASSIC DC SERIES, HITMAN, GETS REPRINTED AT LAST WITH THE FIRST VOLUME AVAILABLE THIS WEEK!

It's no secret. We're huge Garth Ennis fanboys here at Third Eye. Preacher's my all-time favorite series, and Ennis was the first comic creator, when I was just a pup, that I really took note of and made an effort to read EVERYTHING he did. And so far, he's only let me down once (but hey, maybe Dan Dare's a UK thing that I just don't understand). Otherwise, Ennis is always ontop of his game in delivering a well-told story with well-developed characters... and sometimes... with lots of horribly, depraved stuff going on in between all that. And make no mistake, Herogasm, his spin-off of the ultra-popular BOYS series, is definitely depraved. It's Ennis giving us his take on all the giant comic book events, and what really goes on behind the scenes with the degenerate capes that infest the world of THE BOYS. And while the capes are off being complete, twisted superhuman beings.. the Boys are putting their plans into action. You know you want this one, folks! Click here for a preview of BOYS: HEROGASM #2 And if you haven't came aboard yet, fear not.. we've got plenty of HEROGASM #1 in stock!
And, before you think I'm done gushing over my love of all things Ennis, hold up.. wait a minute.. it's time to talk about HITMAN. This series which has been relatively unknown for the better part of this decade, is one of Ennis's best works. Basically, a couple years into Preacher, Ennis began another ongoing series, this time, set in the confines of the DCU, but off in it's own little dirty corner of Gotham City. The story? Tommy Monaghan is your basic run of the mill contract killer thug who fumbles his way into receiving x-ray vision and moderate telepathy. Instead of becoming some kind of zany supervillain, or superhero.. he continues his existence as a hitman. The powers come with severe limits, and he has to use them sparingly, but they do come in handy. What's he do with his new powers? Well, he becomes a hitman who specializes in killing superhumans and supernatural threats, which are normally shunned by average hitmen. Ennis's run on Hitman went for 60 issues, and still remains one of my big DC Comics favorites. Classic scenes like Monaghan puking on Batman's boots, getting drunk at a bar with Kyle Rayner, and experiencing the same awe when encountering Superman as anyone else does balance well with the heavy influence of CIA & Mafia characters that exist in the story. What else makes this series so great? Like most Ennis books, the well fleshed out supporting cast.. from Tommy's best friend & partner, Natt Walls, Sean Noonan, Tommy's bartending father figure, and Ringo Chen, the only Hitman who comes close to Tommy's skill, a cold-blooded John Woo (think Hardboiled, A Better Tomorrow, The Killer, ect)-style kind of hitman, to goofy characters like Six-Pack (a drunk who thinks he's a superhero) and Hacken (a crazy mercenary who thinks chainsaws are the answer to everything). This series is great, and it's fantastic it's back in print. Be sure to check out HITMAN: A RAGE IN ARKHAM Volume 1 in trade paperback this Wednesday!

INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #14 KICKS OFF SECOND HALF OF "AMERICA'S MOST WANTED", AND PROVIDES A GREAT JUMPING ON POINT FOR NEW READERS! ENTER THE CRIMSON DYNAMO!

One series that has been steady picking up steam here at Third Eye since it's launch last year has been Matt Fraction's Invincible Iron Man ongoing series. The first arc, the Five Nightmares, is highly recommended reading, and is now available in trade paperback. The combination of Fraction's fantastic storytelling, and Larocca's killer pencils makes this one a solid hit every issue. And, with the current direction of the series (Pepper Potts: Iron Woman?), we've been impressed month in, and month out with Fraction's unique high octane storytelling, and well-paced tech-espionage hybrid of twists and turns keeping us hooked. Not to mention, Larocca has drove every issue home strong with solid pencils.
And, you're probably like, Steve, shut up, it's 14 issues deep, I haven't started reading it yet... I don't want to catch up... well, guess what? #14 provides an excellent jumping on point. In fact, Fraction has said in interviews he's written this issue as a good jumping on point, and with the re-introduction of classic villains like Crimson Dynamo, and the always alluring iron-masked lady, Madame Masque, you know this is the perfect spot to hop aboard. So, do yourselves a favor and find out why Invincible Iron Man is one of Third Eye's favorite monthly Marvel books this Wednesday!

CABLE #15 *MESSIAH WAR CHAPTER 6* DELIVERS THE PENULTIMATE CHAPTER IN THE EPIC MESSIAH WAR SERIES! PLUS, ALL ISSUES BACK IN STOCK FOR THIS EPIC X-MEN CROSSOVER!

Messiah War has been one heck of a satisfying follow-up to the events of Messiah Complex. We were a little disappointed in where the X-Books went immediately after Messiah War. That whole Manifest Destiny thing turned out to be a load of crap, and we were wondering when the books would pick back up to the high level of quality they'd been with Messiah Complex. Well, Messiah War, has definitely raised the bar on the X-Universe, as we're following Cable, X-Force, and company as they go head to head with Stryfe. And we're stoked everyone's taken notice of just how good both Cable and X-Force have been. We've been singing the praises of these titles for over a year now, and they're really starting to get the recognition they deserve.
And, this week, here at Third Eye, the penultimate chapter of Messiah War arrives in the pages of CABLE #15! And, it's not just one, but two of Cable's enemies who're on the verge of annihilating X-Force, Hope, and him.

THOR: THE TRIAL OF THOR ONE-SHOT ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY! THOR ON TRIAL FOR MURDERING FELLOW ASGARDIANS? FROST GIANT CARNAGE GALORE? FIND OUT THIS WEDNESDAY!

It's no secret that the current THOR ongoing series has been out of this world good, and we're completely stoked on it. It's also no secret that the series of THOR one-shots that came out last year were some of the BEST Thor stories we've read in comics in a very long time. You can catch up on all of those here at Third Eye still in the single issues, or in the THOR: Ages of Thunder hardcover. I mean, we're talking THOR cutting off Frost Giant heads, and dragging them to Odin. We're talking Thor throwing his hammer THROUGH the brains of Asgardian beasts. It's bloody, and it's brutal, and it's awesome.
And, this Wednesday, Marvel delivers us another stand-alone epic THOR one-shot titled the TRIAL OF THOR. This one features the God of Thunder on trial for killing innocent Asgardians in his quest for domination of the Frost Giants. We can already tell from looking at the previews that this one is going to be a blood-soaked, Mighty Thor masterpiece, and it's got some stellar art from Conan artist, Cary Nord. POWER GIRL #2 FOLLOWS UP THE FIRST ISSUE OF AMANDA CONNER'S BRAND NEW, TOTALLY RAD NEW POWER GIRL ONGOING SERIES!

We rave time and time again about how solid Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray's work on Jonah Hex has been, but we've got to admit.. the dynamic duo does it again, and this time, we can only say that the inclusion of AMANDA CONNER into the mix is what makes the book such a good read. The new Power Girl series is everything you want a Power Girl comic to be. It's fun, it doesn't take itself too seriously, and it's full of over-the-top action with a nice little sprinkling of humor in there as well. Not to mention, it's got the perfect artist in Amanda Conner (a lot of you might know her from the recent re-release of Garth Ennis's THE PRO). And, this is why we're stoked to see the second issue follow up.. what's Power Girl do when the Ultra-Humanite is holding Manhattan AND her hostage? Well, there's gonna be only one way to find out, and that's by snagging the new issue of POWER GIRL #2 this Wednesday at Third Eye!
