THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE FOR WEDNESDAY 7/29/09

BLACKEST NIGHT CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH BLACKEST NIGHT: TALES OF THE CORPS #3

Blackest Night has only been happening for two weeks, and it's already the biggest single story of the summer. We can't get enough. You guys can't get enough. And, I don't think Geoff Johns can get enough, as we are completely stoked on everything that's come out so far. This Wednesday, the origins of the different Lantern Corps are further explored, and revealed in the third and final installment of Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps #3.

From the killer Mongul storyline in issue #1 to the revelations being dropped about the Indigo Lanterns (Compassion=Killing?). This three issue limited being written by Blackest Night masterminds, Geoff Johns and Peter J. Tomasi, has been one heck of a solid read. It is NOT just filler tie-in stuff, but something that actually adds to the story being told.

DARK REIGNING BLOOD: NEW AVENGERS #55, SECRET WARRIORS #6, DARK REIGN: HAWKEYE #4,DARK REIGN: SINISTER SPIDER-MAN #2, & MORE!

Dark Reign hits big this Wednesday with a whole slew of killer Dark Reign titles. First off, the biggest, is Marvel's flagship book, New Avengers, with NEW AVENGERS #55! And, now that the Sorcerer Supreme story arc is over, it's onto a brand new story arc which not only picks up on threads left over from the "Who is the Sorcerer Supreme" arc, but takes things in a whole new direction. And, with this new arc, we get a brand new artist to the series with Stuart Immonen, the man behind the whacked out pencils of Nextwave, and Ultimate Spidey. To be honest, I wasn't totally feeling Billy Tan on the book, and I'm kind of glad to see some fresh new styles getting put onto one of Marvel's biggest books. The new story arc is about one of the Hood's cronies figuring out a way to drain the New Avengers powers. This one should be an awesome story for all of us who love those hoardes of B-Level villains, and the Hood. We're stoked! Click here to read a preview of NEW AVENGERS #55

Plus, also arriving this week is Secret Warriors #6, and in case you've been sleeping on it, Secret Warriors is one of Marvel's BEST series coming out currently. Jonathan Hickman is going to be one of the next big superstar writers, we guarantee it, and he's doing some amazing things with Secret Warriors. Not to mention, Stefano Caselli's art is the perfect match to Hickman's story. This is the perfect espionage comic, and it channels old school Jim Steranko madness with a new school energy. Click here to read more aboutSECRET WARRIORS #6!

And, ontop of those two heavy hitters, we've got a nice assortment of solid Dark Reign tie-ins and limited series hitting the racks this Wednesday. First off is the rock solid new DARK REIGN: SINISTER SPIDER-MAN #2 which features everyone's favorite (un)friendly neighborhood Venom wreaking havoc where-ever he goes. Chris Bachalo's surreal art makes this one a must for any self-respecting Marvel fan.

We've also got DARK REIGN: HAWKEYE #4 hitting the racks this week, which features everyone's favorite homicidal assassin, Bullseye, trouncing about town as the Dark Avenger Hawkeye. This one's written by the author of the critically acclaimed Vertigo series, The Losers (soon to be a motion picture), and pencilled by the always solid Tom Raney. It's a bloody deconstruction of the superhero archetype, and the whole Bullseye as Hawkeye thing really plays up well. I mean, in the first issue.. he puts a pen in a woman's eye who asks for an autograph... how can this not be good?

Finally, rounding out the assortment of Dark Reign books hitting this week, there'sDARK REIGN: LETHAL LEGION #2, which really impressed us with the first issue. Basically, it's the rejects of the Dark Avengers. The supervillains who didn't make the cut, and who's helping lead them to victory in their revenge against Norman Osborn? Wonder Man? Say what? Yeah, it's solid stuff, folks. I mean, c'mon.. The Grim Reaper... Absorbing Man... Man-Ape.. it's a must.

And, then we have DARK REIGN: THE HOOD #3, which features one of Third Eye's favorite villains to make it big in the 21st century. Lets face it, the Hood is like the Spider-man of supervillains. He's the everyman. He's the villain we can almost see a little of ourselves in. Okay, don't think we're sociopaths here at Third Eye or anything, but what we're saying is we really enjoy the street-level, down to earth approach to a bigger than life supervillain with the Hood. The limited series has been a great entry point into explaining the character, his motivations, and what his place in the Marvel U is.

STUFF OF LEGEND #1 - "TOY STORY" MEETS "SAVING PRIVATE RYAN"! THIS ONE LOOKS AWESOME!

Stuff Of Legend is one of those independently published books that is going to surely fly under a lot of people's radars. And, that's a real shame, because this book is freaking awesome! After hearing some buzz on the title, I got a preview copy from the publishers, and I was blown away. This is a dark, dark book... but at the same time, isn't a dark, dark book. It's really hard to pin down the feel.. and you know what, be it music, film, or comics.. not being able to categorize something always means it's a quality piece of work.

Stuff of Legend is set in 1944, and as the allied forces wage war overseas, there's a war going on in a small boy's bedroom back in Brooklyn, New York. An army of toys will defend their human master against the Boogeyman, and his army of bitter, lost and forgotten toys. Now, we know.. it's toys fighting toys.. but, THIS BOOK IS VIOLENT AS HELL. The unique art style combined with a visceral sense of combat when the toys throw down, along with some really interesting characterization of each of the different toys.. it all combines into one very appealing package.

So, do yourselves a favor, folks, and check this one out this Wednesday. It's a small press title, and we have a feeling it's going to be one of those sleeper hits that blow up after everyone's already sold out.. so make sure you get your's while you can! BATMAN: REBORN CONTINUES THIS WEEK IN THE PAGES OF DETECTIVE COMICS #855 *BATWOMAN PT 2*

All right, I know, I know, I've been raving about how great DC's recharge of the Batman books has been for a while now. I'm sure a lot of you guys already get the point that I think these are some of the finest superhero reads hitting the shelves. And, lets face it, everyone has a soft spot for Batman, Gotham City, and all of his deranged rogues. But, I have to say.. Detective Comics has been one of the best of the new Batman titles. This is the book that features Batwoman, and the art style is AMAZING. We still have plenty of issue #854 in stock, which is the first issue in the current direction of Detective featuring Batwoman.

What is making this series so great? Well, first off, Greg Rucka is delivering some incredible storytelling. Very gritty, street-level writing that takes the character into a very hard-edged direction. But, what really makes this series pop is the artist, J.H Williams III and his unique approach to the storytelling. The art is very fragmented, and harsh when Batwoman is in Batwoman mode, but when she's in her secret identity.. it's much more soft, and muted. It really enhances the story.

Outside of Batman & Robin, this is my favorite Bat-book right now. If you didn't check out the first issue, give it a go this week. If you did, then we know you'll be snagging up the second issue follow-up. Click here to read more aboutDETECTIVE COMICS #855 *BATWOMAN PT 2*

DARK X-MEN CONTINUES THIS WEEK IN DARK X-MEN: BEGINNING #2!

The Dark X-Men saga that Marvel's been spinning this summer has been a fantastic companion piece to Dark Avengers. It's definitely the creative shot in the arm that the X-Books have needed to make them feel more tied in with the rest of the Marvel Universe. Plus, with Matt Fraction (who is by far one of our favorite writers working for Marvel right now) heading up the main storyline, this whole line has been very strong storywise.

This week, at Third Eye, we've got the second issue of DARK X-MEN: THE BEGINNING #2 arriving to continue the Dark X-Men storylines. This three issue limited series is exploring the secrets and mysteries behind the Dark X-Men team that Osborn has put together. The first issue was a rock solid read, and we do still have plenty in stock still, so if you need it, we've got it. What's Emma Frost's dark motivation? Where do Cloak and Dagger fit into the scheme of things? And, Dark Beast... we haven't seen him in quite some time, so it's cool to see him in the mix as well.

BATMAN: YEAR ONE ARTIST DAVID MAZZUCCHELLI'S ASTERIOS POLYP AVAILABLE THIS WEDNESDAY AT THIRD EYE... THE NEXT GREAT GRAPHIC NOVEL! FEATURED ON G4'S FRESH INK BY BLAIR BUTLER. CHECK THIS OUT!

There's always those one of a kind stories that surface from time to time, and they just seem like they come out of nowhere. David Mazzucchelli, the artist who worked with FRANK MILLER on BATMAN YEAR ONE, has done a lot of work since Batman Year One, but Year One has always been his defining moment. Until now, that is. This little gem, while just now beginning to receive tons of critical acclaim, has received little to no hype in a lot of comic book circles. And, now, after a well-deserved plug on G4, we feel that this book is getting the attention it deserves.

Asterios Polyp is a story about an architect, who has never had one of his designs built. He's a depressing, and from the start, despicable character. Smug, and lecherous, you really don't think you're going to like this guy... and as you're pulled deeper into his seedy world of bittersweet yesterdays... you start to feel for the guy. The graphic novel takes you through the early days of his life into his later years, and you get to see him develop as a character and person through these times.

The artwork is phenomenal, and Mazzucchelli does some amazing things with simple strokes of the pen to convey the emotion of this story. All we can say is this one is a solid read, and we'd highly recommend it to anyone who can get into just plain old fashioned comics. For those of you who might think it sounds pretentious, trust us, that's the beauty of this book.. it's not just some wanna-be arthouse sensation.. it's a true blue graphic novel infused with tons of feeling. FANTASTIC FOUR #569 *MASTERS OF DOOM PT 4* CONTINUES NOW THAT THE MARQUIS OF DEATH HAS BEEN REVEALED AS CLYDE WINCHAM FROM MARK MILLAR'S 1985! MILLAR'S THREE-WAY CROSSOVER BETWEEN 1985, FANTASTIC FOUR, AND OLD MAN LOGAN IS REACHING IT'S BOILING POINT! THE CONCLUSION TO MASTERS OF DOOM IS HERE!

Mark Millar has been quite the name for the past two years. I mean, okay, the guy has a long track record of amazing comic storytelling. From his classic WOLVERINE: ENEMY OF THE STATE to his communist Superman tale RED SON, he's been weaving some incredible tales for a while now. But, the thing that's really had us hooked has been his work on OLD MAN LOGAN, FANTASTIC FOUR, and his limited series from last year, 1985. What's really intriguing, is back when all three of these began, Millar had gone on record as saying that the three will be connecting in som way and he's building a continuity between the three titles. Now, for a while.. we could only see little clues and tidbits as to how the books connected, a character's name on the map of OLD MAN LOGAN, a mention of Sue and Reed being lost in the time-stream.. ect ect. However, in the pages of Millar's MASTERS OF DOOM storyline, exploring the mentors of Dr. Doom... we just recently learned that Clyde Wyncham, the real-world mutant responsible for the massacre in 1985 IS the Marquis of Death, Doom's mentor. And, now, we're on the edge of our seat for two reasons: the first is that we want to see how this arc of FF concludes, and the second is we want to see if or how this will somehow connect or explain the events of OLD MAN LOGAN. We can't say for fact what is going to happen, but so far... it's been one hell of a ride! Click hereto see a preview of FANTASTIC FOUR #569 *MASTERS OF DOOM PT 4*

GREEN LANTERN: FIRST FLIGHT ANIMATED FEATURE DVD AVAILABLE AT THIRD EYE THIS TUESDAY!

DC has done an amazing job with their animated films, and this time is no exception, with the brand new GREEN LANTERN: FIRST FLIGHT animated feature film exploring the story of Hal Jordan. Now, we haven't seen the full version yet, but judging from the trailers, and the footage we have seen, this exploration of who Green Lantern is, and what his role in the DCU is looks to be a solid addition to your DC Animated Film library. We'll have a limited amount of these babies in stock come Tuesday. Click here to watch the trailer!

FABLES WRITER BILL WILLINGHAM COMES ABOARD JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA #29 THIS WEDNESDAY TO KICK OFF AN EXCITING NEW DIRECTION FOR THE SERIES! A GREAT JUMPING ON POINT

This is an exciting one, folks. Justice Society of America has had a long, rock-solid run of being a great superhero book. From the big relaunch of it as JSA back in the late '90s with James Robinson and Batman Begins/Dark Knight writer David Goyer penning it, to the long run Geoff Johns (Blackest Night head honcho) has had on both JSA and Justice Society of America, it's always been a consistent good read.

Now, we're not gonna lie, when JSA is good, it's really good, but when it's bad.. it's pretty bad. The fill-in issues have been a huge bummer, and to be honest, we feel that JSA is only as good as the creative team behind it. This is why we're stoked to see new blood coming onboard with the writer of critically acclaimed Vertigo series, FABLES, Bill Willingham picking up the reigns on Justice Society.

It's going to be very exciting to see Willingham's approach to the ultimate "legacy" superhero team, and because JSA has always been a place for more unconventional characters... it means he'll have pretty much open season to do what he pleases in making the book awesome. This, my friends, is a true recipe for a good superhero funny book.

So, if you've been looking to come aboard a good DCU team book, then give this week's Justice Society of America #29 a go, as it's the perfect jumping on point with a fresh new creative team to get you started. Click here to read more about JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA #29!

ULTIMATUM #5 BRINGS JEPH LOEB AND DAVID FINCH'S ULTIMATUM EVENT TO A BLOODY CONCLUSION AS THE FIELD IS SET FOR A NEW DIRECTION IN THE ULTIMATE UNIVERSE!

David Finch's gorgeous, ultra-detailed pencils have made ULTIMATUM into a top tier must-read for us here at Third Eye. While we're not always the biggest fans of Jeph Loeb's storytelling, we have to admit... putting him in charge of destroying an entire universe is a pretty good spot to be. And, we have to say, we have not been disappointed one bit with the carnage displayed in ULTIMATUM. This limited series is the book that is killing off Ultimate characters left and right, and setting the stage for the new direction of the Ultimate Universe this summer (which is going to be overseen by Kick-Ass and Old Man Logan writer, MARK MILLAR).

You want bigger than life, old school comic book fun with an ultraviolent new school twist? You want larger than life artwork, and widescreen destruction? Ultimatum delivers.

And now, finally, this Wednesday, we get to see the horrifying conclusion as everything comes crashing down. The secrets of Ultimatum revealed, and a peek at what's to come. Miss out on the earlier issues? Fear not, we have all four of the previous issues well stocked here at Third Eye for you to catch up on 'em. Clickhere to read more about ULTIMATUM #5!

BRIAN WOOD'S NORTHLANDERS VOLUME 2 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY! BEAUTIFUL, BLOODY VIKING MADNESS THE WAY WE LOVE IT!

Brian Wood is another of our big favorite writers right now. And, his ongoing viking series, Northlanders, has been one of our big Vertigo favorites this year. He delivers the bloody brutality you'd expect from the Viking era, but in a very accessible way to readers. Well-crafted stories that pull you in, but deliver pulse-pounding, skull-splitting Viking madness... this is where it's at. Plus, the artwork is AMAZING, and we've yet to see an issue yet where the tone of the art does not fit perfectly with the story. If you haven't yet checked out Northlanders.. give volume 1 a shot, it's only $9.99 for the first 8 issues in trade paperback form. If you're already hooked, then guess what.. it's time for volume 2 this week, guys! Clickhere to read a Publisher's Weekly piece on the book.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE FOR WEDNESDAY 7/22/09

MARVEL 70th ANNIVERSARY PARTY ON TUESDAY NIGHT AUGUST 11th

That's right, folks! Third Eye is extremely excited to announce that we have been selected as one of the official sites to come celebrate the Marvel 70th Anniversary Party! Now, surely, you're asking... "What the hell is the Marvel 70th Anniversary Party?" Well, it's basically a big birthday party for Marvel Comics that's being held at selected comic shops across the country. It's also the "midnight release" of the extremely awesome looking MARVELS PROJECT from ED BRUBAKER, which is going to be one hell of a great read. And, being a birthday party, you can expect some free cake and ice cream, along with a great sale on all your favorite Marvel products.
Now, what's really cool, is besides the fact that we're going to be able to provide you guys with an early chance at scooping a very cool new series (I read the first full issue of Marvels Project #1, and will go on record as saying that this will be one of the better limited series of the summer. It's really got me excited.), but also we're able to bring you guys some very cool Marvel Party exclusives.

This includes the first 30 people to arrive for the Marvel 70th Anniversary party will be able to purchase one of the Marvel Party exclusive variant covers. The supplies on these are limited, so we'll only have enough to cover the first 30 of you guys, and you can only snag this copy of the book at the Marvel 70th Anniversary party. There will also be a few other exclusive covers available at the event as well!

But, best of all, it's a chance for everyone to come out, have fun, score some good deals, and talk Marvel with us here at Third Eye! So, join us in this great celebration!

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #600 &INCREDIBLE HULK #600 BRING BIG SURPRISES, BIG REVEALS, AND BOLD NEW DIRECTIONS FOR BOTH SERIES!!
Two of the most anticipated issues of the summer will be arriving this Wednesday at Third Eye, and along with them, come some shocking reveals, and bold new directions for the series.

First off, we have the highly anticipated INCREDIBLE HULK #600 which brings the mystery and intrigue of the current HULK storyline to a startling conclusion. Annnnd, why's that? Well, we get to find out who the RED HULK is! This is the question that has been on the tops of every Marvel fan's heads for the couple of years, and now it's finally going to be answered. And, guess who's all caught up in the middle of this? That's right, your friendly neighborhood Spider-man! Stellar artwork from Ed McGuiness, and big surprises galore make this one a must-read. Been waiting for the perfect opportunity to jump aboard HULK and find out why everyone's all about this title? Now's your chance! As for our personal thoughts? HULK captures that old school bigger than life Jack Kirby magic like no other book does right now. It's big, it's dumb, and it's a whole lot of fun. Trust us, this book is a real blast! Click here to read more about INCREDIBLE HULK #600!

And, speaking of everyone's friendly neighborhood Spider-man. We get a much well-deserved special issue that's supposed to be bringing back everyone's favorite red-headed bombshell, MARY JANE WATSON! This special issue is pencilled by none other than KICK-ASS artist, JOHN ROMITA JR, and not only does it feature the supposed return of Peter's main squeeze (something that we as fans have been clamoring for!), but also the return of DOCTOR OCTOPUS.. and he's supposed to be vicious as hell now! Don't miss out on this special issue that sets the stage for the new direction of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. Click here to read more about AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #600!

BLACKEST NIGHT: GREEN LANTERN #44 CONTINUES THE SHEER AWESOMENESS OF BLACKEST NIGHT THIS WEDNESDAY AS BLACK LANTERN MARTIAN MANHUNTER GOES HEAD TO HEAD WITH HAL AND BARRY! MEANWHILE, BLACKEST NIGHT: TALES OF THE CORPS #2 CONTINUES TO EXPLORE AND REVEAL THE ORIGINS AND SECRETS OF THE DIFFERENT LANTERN CORPS!

Wow, holy crap, was Blackest Night awesome last week or what? It was a great first issue, and definitely well worth the hype. It's always a big bonus to see books live up to the hype they've been given, and we were very satisfied with the first issue of Blackest Night. A quick side note.. if you skipped BLACKEST NIGHT: TALES OF THE CORPS #1... pick it up this week! It was a VERY good tie-in issue, and with GEOFF JOHNS and PETER J. TOMASI handling the storytelling on it.. it definitely was not just a filler tie-in. We still have some of these left in stock, so be sure to snag yourselves a copy of #1 this week.

Now, onto Green Lantern #44. As most of you already know, Green Lantern has turned into one of DC's flagship premiere titles. After Green Lantern #43 from a couple of weeks ago (which kicked off Blackest Night by revealing the origin behind BLACK HAND, and his role as the herald for the Black Lantern Corps), we are extremely stoked to see what comes next this week in GREEN LANTERN #44. The solicits make it look like we'll be seeing J'onn Jonzz, the Martian Manhunter, who is now a super evil, super wicked Black Lantern throwing down with the Flash and Green Lantern. Plus, Sinestro is on his way to take back what is his from Mongul, the usurper of the Sinestro Corps. This one's a must for all of you following the Blackest Night ,and with more killer art from Doug Mahnke (he did Green Lantern 43), you know it's going to be one hell of a wicked read! Click here to read more about GREEN LANTERN #44!

As I said up above, the first issue of Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps was AWESOME! A fantastic read, and definitely not just another filler tie-in issue. It gets in depth with the secrets and mysteries behind the different color Lantern Corps, as well as their connections to The Blackest Night. If you guys missed out on the first one, then don't worry, we still have some in stock here at Third Eye. Come on through, and scoop up 1 and 2, and you'll be all caught up. Trust us, folks, it's worth it for the Mongul part alone, but the whole thing was good reading. And, the fact that Geoff Johns and Peter J. Tomasi, the two masterminds behind Blackest Night are penning it, definitely makes it into some solid reading. Click here to read more about BLACKEST NIGHT: TALES OF THE CORPS #2!

DEADPOOL SUICIDE KINGS #4 ARRIVES, AND ISSUES 1,2 AND 3 ARE ALL NOW IN STOCK AT THIRD EYE!

Deadpool is by far one of Marvel's most popular characters right now. And, while both of his currently ongoing series have been a great deal of fun, we've been huge fans of the current limited series, DEADPOOL: SUICIDE KINGS. You want to see Deadpool going head to head with the Punisher and Spider-man in completely ridiculous and awesome scenarios? Well, you got it, folks. And, last week, we were lucky enough to get all of the first three issues of DEADPOOL SUICIDE KINGS back in stock. So, if you missed em, now's your chance to jump aboard, and get into this killer series.

IMMORTAL WEAPONS #1 DEBUTS FEATURING TALES OF IRON FISTS PAST FROM SCALPED WRITER JASON AARON & CRIME NOVELIST DUANE SWIERCZYNSKI!

Iron Fist was one of our favorite hidden gems here at Third Eye. Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction really breathed new life into this character by infusing the book with old school Shaw Brothers Kung Fu Theater-style action, and a rich backstory. And, while we're sad to see Iron Fist's ongoing series come to an end, we're very excited about this new five issue limited series, IMMORTAL WEAPONS, which will be dedicating each issue to one of the classic Iron Fists of days gone past.

The first issue explores the origins and adventures of FAT COBRA, Master of the Sumo Thunder Stomp and the Devil's Skullcrusher! Written by rising star, Jason Aaron, the man responsible for our current favorite VERTIGO book, SCALPED, this is a very promising new limited series and is a must for anyone who loves two things: old school Kung Fu and Marvel Comics! PLUS, Duane Swierczynski returns with a new Danny Rand story! Click here to check out a preview of IMMORTAL WEAPONS #1!

ADULT SWIM'S METALOCALYPSEDETHKLOK VS. THE GOON ONE-SHOT ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY!

There are some pairings that are just common sense. Wolverine and Ninjas. Peanut butter and Jelly. Coffee and cigarettes. For whatever reason, they just work together. And, this Wednesday, the next dynamic duo dream team combo arrives with DETHKLOK vs. THE GOON. Yes, THAT Dethklok, the animated death metal band that appear on ADULT SWIM all the time. And, they're going head to head with one of our favorite bar-room brawlers, the Goon! Whether you've never read the Goon before in your life, or you've been following all along, this issue is the perfect entry point to the character. Find out why we rave all the time abou Eric Powell's gorgeous, twisted art, and why the quirkiness of the Goon keeps us coming back for more and more.

And, ontop of all that... he's going head to head with Nathan Explosion, Murderface and the rest of the Dethklok crew. How can you go wrong with that, huh, folks? Click here to check out a trailer, as well as more preview information about the truly brutalDETHKLOK vs. the GOON one-shot hitting Third Eye this Wednesday!

FINAL CRISIS: LEGION OF 3 WORLDS #5 ARRIVES... FINALLY!

The question that's been on every DC's brain over the last few months has been when the hell are we going to see the conclusion to the super awesome, but.. super late.. FINAL CRISIS: LEGION OF 3 WORLDS limited series? Well, finally, this week, the grand finale to this awesome (probably our favorite of the Final Crisis tie-ins) limited series arrives. Geoff Johns (Blackest Night mastermind) and George Perez (legendary comic book artist extraordinaire) really crafted a good story with this one, and with it leading directly into this summer's new ADVENTURE COMICS, we're really eager to see how the series ends out. You can read more aboutFINAL CRISIS: LEGION OF 3 WORLDS #5by clicking here.

BATMAN: REBORN CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY IN GOTHAM CITY SIRENS #2 FROM BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES WRITER PAUL DINI! YOUR HARLEY QUINN FIX IS HERE!

I gotta say, guys, I am totally impressed with how good the Batman books have been in the wake of Battle for the Cowl. DC has really lined up some rock solid creative teams, and done a damn fine job keeping a nice tight cohesive feel between the books. It's really hard to choose a favorite, although it's a strong three-way tie between Batman & Robin, Detective Comics, and Streets of Gotham. I have to say though, Gotham City Sirens was a good start, and lets face it, it's Paul Dini (the co-creator of the critically acclaimed BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES) doing what he does best: writing Harley, Ivy, and the rest of the Gotham femme fatales. And, this week, the next follow-up in this really cool new series featuring Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and Catwoman arrives. Click here to read more about GOTHAM CITY SIRENS #2!

STAR TREK: SPOCK REFLECTIONS #1 - NEW LIMITED SERIES SET IN THE SAME UNIVERSE AS THIS YEAR'S NEW JJ ABRAMS "STAR TREK" FILM!

My favorite movie of the summer is still Star Trek. I thought they captured everything perfectly, and did a great job of keeping the essence of the franchise while making it accessible to people who weren't as diehard fans of the older films. To be honest, I'm a fan of the original series, and some of Next Generation, but, movie-wise.. this and Wrath of Khan are the big ones for me. And, the Star Trek Countdown miniseries that coincided with the film was EXTREMELY well-done. It did a fantastic job of weaving together the different timelines and realities of Trek.

This Wednesday, the new Star Trek: Spock Reflections limited series explores the reasons Spock chose to live on Romulus, and the events that play into the new Trek movie's Spock's choices and motivations. Plus, there's supposed to be some pretty startling surprises in store as well. Looks pretty solid, and lets face it: we're all hankering for some more Trek that's set in the same universe as the film. Click here to read a preview of STAR TREK: SPOCK REFLECTIONS #1!

DARK WOLVERINE #76 CONTINUES THIS SURPRISE HIT!

Okay, I'll admit it, I was a little on the fence about the new Dark Wolverine title. I've never been a big fan of the character Daken, and I don't have much faith in Daniel Way as a writer (outside of his work on DEADPOOL, which has been great). BUT BUT BUT.. I read Dark Wolverine #75, and I really enjoyed it. The first issue was pretty damn solid, and had some intriguing story potential going for it. I think the addition of Marjorie Liu is what really helps flesh the story and writing out. Plus, the artwork was very nicely done from Giuseppe Camuncoli. This week, the sinister master plans of Daken continue to take shape, as we find out what his motivations for being in the DARK AVENGERS are. Click here to read a preview of DARK WOLVERINE #76!

WEDNESDAY COMICS #3 - DC'S NEW 12 ISSUE WEEKLY SERIES CONTINUES TO DELIVER AWE AND AMAZEMENT! LAST WEEK'S WAS AWESOME! NEIL GAIMAN ON METAMORPHO, THE KUBERTS ON SGT ROCK, PAUL POPE ON ADAM STRANGE!

Wednesday Comics is probably going to end up being one of my favorite series of this year. It's brilliant format, beautiful artwork, and incredible roster of A-List writers makes the fact that we get this slab of beautiful every Wednesday even better. I'm serious, folks, no hype here.. I am really digging this. The format's a little awkward at first, but once you read through it, you realize there's really no other appropriate way for these stories to be told. And, when you really look at the mechanics of how the writers and artists have to get a chunk of story across in just one giant over-sized page... it really is impressive. Honestly, if you're just a fan of comics in general, give Wednesday Comics a go if you haven't already. We still have issue #1 and issue #2 in stock, and this week, the third installment arrives.

How can you go wrong with pairings such as 100 Bullets's Azzarello and Risso, Neil Gaiman and Mike Allred, Joe Kubert and his son Andy Kubert, and many others? Plus, Amanda Conner knocking it out of the park with Supergirl, and Paul Pope delivering an amazing Adam Strange story. It's A+ stuff, guys. Give it a look. Click here to read more about WEDNESDAY COMICS!
