THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS

BLACKEST NIGHT #4 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY AT THIRD EYE! GREEN LANTERN #47, AND BLACKEST NIGHT TITANS #3 RIGHT ALONGSIDE IT! THE SECRETS OF THE BLACK LANTERNS REVEALED

What better way to end out the month than with the fourth installment of the biggest damn comic out hitting the stands? What more can we say about the Blackest Night that we haven't already said? It's the best thing coming out, and probably the best superhero book we've been reading this year (especially now that OLD MAN LOGAN has ended). As far as events go, this is one of the best we've seen in years. Everything about it is a A+.

For those of you who aren't familiar with it yet, it's DC's big storyline this year, which has been steadily build for the last few years by Geoff Johns in Green Lantern. In a nutshell, dead DC characters returning as vengeful zombied-out Lanterns. And, it rules, hard.

This Wednesday, after the shocking events of Blackest Night #3, the origins and truths behind the Black Lanterns are revealed! Find out just what the deal is on who they are, where they come from, and their motivations.

And, hey, if that wasn't enough for you, coming right alongside Blackest Night is it's sister book, GREEN LANTERN. Even if you're not reading all of the Blackest Night tie-ins, you have got to be reading Green Lantern. Each issues helps fill in the space in between issues of Blackest Night. And, with Blackest Night writer Geoff Johns penning GL, you know that it's top notch material. And, this week, Green Lantern #47 looks to kick off the big war between the Blue Lanterns and the Orange Lantern Corps.

And, then, finally, Blackest Night Titans concludes as the dead husks of former Teen Titans, now risen as Black Lanterns, are looking to rip the life right out of the Titans. And, you know, it's funny, but I'm not even a huge Titans fan, and I've been really enjoying this Blackest Night tie-in.

Are you all caught up on your Blackest Night? We currently have all the issues of the tie-ins, main series, and more well-stocked at Third Eye. Click here to see the checklist, and make sure you're up to date!

NECROSHA BEGINS THIS WEDNESDAY IN X NECROSHA ONE-SHOT & NEW MUTANTS #6.THE BLACK QUEEN RETURNS SPINNING OUT OF X-FORCE, ONE OF THE COOLEST LOOKING CROSSOVERS WE'VE SEEN COME DOWN THE PIKE!

X-Force has been one of Marvel's best kept secrets almost since it's launch. It's gotten some attention with killer storylines like MESSIAH WAR, but it's always kind of hovered right under the radar as the one X-Book everyone KNEW was going to be good month after month. The fact that the book has been pretty self-contained, and has held the same crew of creators onboard since issue #1, is definitely a big part of why this is so. The other thing is that the creative team has managed to really build up a very cool, rich and engrossing world within the confines of the X-Force title.

And, now, for those of you who aren't yet reading X-FORCE (and those of you who already are, you're already waiting for this one), here's the perfect opportunity to start. The big NECROSHA storyline begins this Wednesday in the X-NECROSHA one-shot *NECROSHA PT 1*, and NEW MUTANTS #6 *NECROSHA PT 2*. It's going to be going back and forth between X-Force, and New Mutants, and it's going to be KILLER. The big hook? It's the return of the true Black Queen. And, that Black Queen, is the immortal psychic vampire Selene, who's been around since the glory days of the Egyptian empire. And, she's here to raise hell. An undead legion of deceased mutants being thrown against the most brual X-Team operating.

And, with the gorgeous art of Clayton Crain, and the stellar writing team of Yost and Kyle heading this up, you can bet your ass that this is going to be worth checking out.

WOLVERINE OLD MAN LOGAN HARDCOVER ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY! ONE OF THE BEST MARVEL STORIES OF THIS DECADE!

Did you read OLD MAN LOGAN? Well, whether you did, or not, you're going to want this gorgeous hardcover collection of one of the most epic, and entertaining Marvel Comics this decade. Quite possibly the best Wolverine story in 20 years, in our opinion. We know a lot of you have waited for the graphic novel on this one, so we made sure to have plenty of these puppies coming in this week.

As for those of you who aren't yet familiar with OLD MAN LOGAN, here's the scoop... it's 50 years into the future, Wolverine is dead, and in his place, remains a man of peace known only as Logan. Logan hasn't popped his claws in nearly three decades, due to a horrible tragedy that occured in his past (and trust us, when you read what happened to make him that way.. holy crap, one of the best reveals in comics!), and he resides on the West Coast with his wife and kids. Oh, and the best part about Old Man Logan? The world it's set in is completely distorted from the Marvel Universe know well. Almost all the superheroes are dead. The Red Skull is the President of the U.S. The Hulk and She-hulk have had an inbred lineage of grandchildren that run the West Coast like a crime family. And, it's just Logan and an 80-year old, blind Hawkeye, road-tripping across this Madd Max-esque landscape to deliver a mysterious cargo.

Trust us, folks, this is one of the best reads we've seen in a very long time, and the combination of outstanding storytelling, and high caliber artwork make OLD MAN LOGAN a welcome addition to any fan's bookshelf. This hardcover collects the entire story in one giant slab, and in a great format for a great price.

Please note, that while we've got a bunch of these coming in, the demand is going to be huge, so if you really want one, shoot us an email about setting one aside for you.

FVZA #1 - BRAND NEW RADICAL SERIES, FEATURING... THE FEDERAL VAMPIRE ZOMBIE AGENCY? IT LOOKS AWESOME!

Radical has made a name for themselves by putting out consistently high quality series that bring new ideas to the table of comic storytelling. Their production values, and the gorgeous artwork that's become a trademark of Radical, always ensures you're getting a quality product. Most importantly, the stories are almost always fresh, and compelling, offering up some new twist on serial fiction.

This Wednesday, one of the Radical books that I'm most excited about begins, and I can tell you guys, I read an advance of the first issue, and you're going to love this one. Gorgeous artwork, great, creepy concept. Fans of things like World War Z, will especially dig it.

So, now you ask, what's the scoop? FVZA stands for Federal Vampire Zombie Agency. It chronicles a world where deadly disease, representing a new kind of global terrorism, transforms it's victims into zombies. Of course, that's when the FVZA is called into action. And, their history goes back far. The FVZA was began during the Civil War, and existed up through World War II, preventing the spread of zombie infections and vampirism. And, then the cure was invented during WW 2, and they've since been in waiting for the threat of zombies and vampires to resurface. Basically, FVZA is a reinterpretation of American history, that delivers a fresh new mythology to the world of zombies and the undead. It's a big thick book, filled with dark, creepy (and awesome-looking) artwork, and the writing is pretty on point.

SUPERMAN SECRET ORIGIN #2 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, CONTINUING BLACKEST NIGHT WRITER GEOFF JOHNS'S EPIC 21ST CENTURY RE-INVENTION OF THE MAN OF STEEL!

Geoff Johns is the man. 'Nuff Said. Seriously though, when it comes to writing DC Comics that you have gotta read, anything Geoff Johns puts his name on is essential. Like, for example, I've never been a big Superman fan. I mean, elseworlds like Red Son and All-Star Superman were cool, and I could appreciate the John Byrne Man of Steel stuff, but I never really had an appreciation for Superman until Geoff Johns's run on ACTION COMICS (available in trade paperback, as "Last Son","Superman and the Legion of Superheroes","Brainiac", "Escape From Bizarro World", and "New Krypton"). It was these stories that really captured the essence of what makes Superman cool. Johns managed to take a character that's normally kind of stale due to his immense power, and flesh him out into one of the most compelling characters around. And, lets face it, if anyone deserves that treatment, it's Superman. He's one of the icons. His comics SHOULD rock.

This is why we're so stoked about Johns's Superman: Secret Origin, with Action Comics collaborator, Gary Frank. Johns knows how to make it work. He's re-telling Superman's life and origin with a 21st century spin, and infusing the character with the magic that only he can. Lets face it, it's Geoff Johns who's made the Green Lantern into one of DC's biggest characters. Now he's working his magic with the Man of Steel.

The first issue of this was OUTSTANDING, and if you missed it, fear not.. cause we still have it in stock for you to catch up. If you already read it, then we know you're going to be eagerly anticipating the follow up issue this Wednesday.

THE SWORD VOLUME 3 "EARTH" ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY! NOT READING THE SWORD YET? FIND OUT WHY THIS IMAGE SERIES IS ONE OF OUR FAVORITE BOOKS RIGHT NOW! ELRIC MEETS HIGHLANDER MEETS KILL BILL! IT RULES!

The Sword is one of those series that if you like good comics, then you need to be reading. Whether you're a fan of the off-the-wall stuff, or strictly the mainline stuff, you will like the Sword. This series combines elements of modern day storytelling with classic mythology, and sword and sorcery. In fact, if you took Highlander, Kill Bill, and a stack of Michael Moorcock books and threw them in a blender, you'd get the Sword.

The story? A young paraplegic college student with a normal, wholesome family, finds out her father's really centuries old. Of course, three strangers show up, looking for a mystical old sword, and slaughter her entire family. She's left to burn to death, but coincidentally enough lands beneath the floorboards near the Sword.. and when she grabs it, she can walk. At first, she's in shock, and has no idea what's going on. The Sword almost acts as a defense system, she gets attacked, and before she can even think about it, she's whipping the Sword out and cutting dudes in half. The Sword also gives her super-strength, super-speed, the ability to jump super-high, and regeneration. Basically, it makes her badass.

By the time you get to the very end of Volume 1, she's begun her quest for vengeance, and that's where things really kick into high gear, with the three siblings who killed her family being hunted by Dara, and the history of the Sword, her family, and her adversaries becoming unravelled throughout.

This Wednesday, the third trade arrives, and like any very good series, we know there's a lot of you eagerly awaiting the third installment. The Sword v.3 collects issues 13-18, and there's only one issue out after the trade, with issue #19, and we have plenty available. So, if you get real hooked, and want to jump onto the monthly singles, Third Eye's got you covered!

DARK REIGN: THE LIST CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH THE TWO MOST HIGHLY ANTICIPATED "LIST" ONE-SHOTS. THE PUNISHER *DARK REIGN THE LIST CHAPTER 6* AND WOLVERINE *DARK REIGN THE LIST CHAPTER 7* BY ALL-STAR CREATORS LIKE JASON AARON & JOHN ROMITA JR!

THE LIST has been providing a very satisfying wind-down to the events of DARK REIGN. Each one of these one-shots, headed up by some of Marvel's top notch creative teams has delivered big time. But, the two we've been most eagerly anticipating, are both dropping this Wednesday. Due to the all-star creative teams on both of these books, along with the big events rumored o be happening in both, we're pumped.

First off, in DARK REIGN THE LIST: PUNISHER *DARK REIGN CHAPTER 6*, we get the long-awaited showdown between the Punisher and the Dark Avengers. This is what's leading up to the very mysterious Rest In Pieces/Frankencastle story arc that'll be happening this winter. Basically, now that Osborn has everything he needs under control, his big decision is to take care of The Punisher. He dedicates an afternoon, using the entirety of H.A.M.M.E.R, and the Dark Avengers, to exterminate the Punisher. And, the big rumor is that Dark Wolverine does some REALLY messed up stuff to ol' Frank Castle. Ontop of this awesome storyline from Rick Remender, it's being drawn by one of the definitive PUNISHER artists.. JOHN ROMITA JR (the man behind KICK-ASS). Romita JR does gritty REAL well, and seeing him back on the Punisher is a BIG deal. Click here to check out the preview of DARK REIGN THE LIST CHAPTER 6 PUNISHER

Next up, we've got the DARK REIGN THE LIST WOLVERINE *DARK REIGN THE LIST CHAPTER 7* one-shot, which features the incredible creative team of JASON AARON (SCALPED, WOLVERINE WEAPON X) and ESAD RIBIC (LOKI, SUBMARINER THE DEPTHS, ect). If you've read WOLVERINE: WEAPON X, then you know that Jason Aaron is one of the perfect fits for writing Wolverine. He manages to recapture the awesomeoness of those old school Wolverine comics you used to read from the '80s. You know, back when it was just Wolverine, his cigar, and a pile of dead Hand ninjas. Paired up with Esad Ribic, he's going to be delivering an awesome story. Esad Ribic hasn't done a lot of comic work, but he's most well-known for his gorgeous painted pencils on books like Sub-mariner the Depths, Silver Surfer Requiem, and Loki. And, the plot? Basically, Osborn wants the Weapon Plus program, but Wolverine isn't going to be having that. Throw Marvel Boy into the mix, and the emergence of a brand new Weapon XVI, and you know this one's a must. We're stoked because we know Aaron's track record on Wolvie, and if anyone delivers must-read Wolverine stories, it's this guy. Clickhere to read a preview of DARK REIGN THE LIST CHAPTER 7 WOLVERINE

PILOT SEASON DECLASSIFIED - "WALKING DEAD" WRITER ROBERT KIRKMAN & COMICS LEGEND MARC SILVESTRI UNVEIL A WHOLE NEW WORLD.. AND IT'S ONLY $1.00!

When names like Robert Kirkman and Marc Silvestri are attached to things, we tend to take notice. Robert Kirkman, is one of Third Eye's favorite writers, and consistently wows us on everything from WALKING DEAD and INVINCIBLE to stuff like HAUNT and the recently finished DESTROYER. Plain and simple, the man can write some damn good funnybooks. And, Marc Silvestri, well, the man is a legend. From his work on X-Men, to his own hand in helping invent numerous comic characters, there's not a lot that Silvestri hasn't been involved in.

So, seeing that these two comics heavyweights were pairing up to create a whole slew of brand new characters, to tell new stories with, it got us pumped. First off, the concept behind Pilot Season is fantastic. Basically, Kirkman and Silvestri create five new characters, and run five one-shots, and then we, the fans, get to vote on which one we liked best. Whoever wins, gets their own series.

And it all begins this Wednesday in PILOT SEASON DECLASSIFIED, which you can snatch up for just a buck! You can't even get a pack of gum for that, these days. So, give it a shot!

ARKHAM ASYLUM IS REBORN THIS WEEK IN THE ARKHAM REBORN LIMITED SERIES!

Lets face it, if you're a fan of Batman, you're a fan of his rogues, and if you're fan of his rogues, then you're just as obsessed with ARKHAM ASYLUM as we are. In the pages of BATTLE FOR THE COWL, Arkham Asylum was destroyed by BLACK MASK. Now is Dr. Jeremiah Arkham gonna let that stand? Nope! He's rebuilt the asylum more in line with the insanity of his Uncle Amadeus. Dr. Jeremiah's slowly losing his mind, and what starts as a new way of treating Gotham's criminally insane slowly mutates into a torture chamber, where Dr. Arkham IS the criminally insane, and they are his captives.

This one is sure to be a creepy, awesome ride through the underbelly of Batman's world, and a nice tie-in to the events of BATMAN:REBORN.

AN ULTIMATE DOUBLE DOSE THIS WEDNESDAY WITH MARK MILLAR'S (OLD MAN LOGAN, KICK-ASS) ULTIMATE AVENGERS #3 & WARREN ELLIS'S (TRANSMETROPOLITAN, PLANETARY) ULTIMATE ARMOR WARS #2

Mark Millar's return to the Ultimate Universe has been a breath of fresh air. I gotta say, the Ultimates were my favorite Marvel book back during Ultimates 1 and Ultimaes 2, but man, when Jeph Loeb did Ultimates 3... they lost me, big-time. I mean, it was fun, but... it didn't come close to the awesomeness of the firs two "seasons." Now, with a fresh slate to work with, Mark Millar (writer of OLD MAN LOGAN, KICK-ASS, and much more) has made the Ultimates a top of the pile read once again. The first issue was a little slow, but they had to set things up. Issue #2 however, was OFF THE HOOK. The origin of Ultimate Red Skull was amazing (basically, in the Ultimate Universe, the Red Skull is Captain America's illegitimate son, who was raised by the U.S government until he murdered an entire facility of workers at the age of 17, and then proceeded to carve his own face off with a kitchen knife), and now we're on the hook, eagerly awaiting to see where things go next as Captain America's gone rogue, finding out the secrets of his offspring. Did you miss issues 1 and 2? Fear not, folks, we got them in stock, so you can still easily catch up on the series!

The aftermath of Ultimatum is being explored now in the pages of Ultimate Armor Wars from critically acclaimed writer WARREN ELLIS (the man behind TRANSMETROPOLITAN, PLANETARY, ect). The first issue of this one was awesome, as the focus is on Ultimate Tony Stark (and man, the way he's portrayed in the Ultimate Universe is pretty awesome), his stolen armors, and a world of espionage. Nobody does things like high concept sci-fi, and gritty, dirty espionage better than Ellis.

WARREN ELLIS'S STEAMPUNK EPIC IGNITION CITY CONCLUDES THIS WEEK WITH IGNITION CITY #5 "WHERE THE SPACE HEROES GO TO DIE"

Ignition City was one of the better Avatar series we read last year. Warren Ellis, who's always a Third Eye favorite here, took the world of space heroes, rocket ships, and ray guns, and drenched in a dark, gritty Old West-style aesthetic. The series can best be described as Deadwood meets Buck Rogers. Carrying the tag line, Where the Space Heroes Go To Die, Ignition City (which gives off a very strong League of Extraordinary Gentlemen feel) is set in a world where World War II was interrupted by a Martian invasion, and as a result, space travel became the norm. It focuses on Ignition City, a spaceport/island on the equator, where broken down shells of space heroes, and sci-fi adventurers go to spend the rest of their days. The world of Ignition City is explored through the character Mary Raven, who's father was killed in Ignition City, and who demands answers for his death.

The series really shines on the whole World of Tomorrow gone bad bent that it's got going on. Seeing the equivalent of Flash Gordon, or Buck Rogers, drunkenly blasting it out with rayguns in the middle of a dusty, street is pretty damn cool. The little touches, like old pilots living in the hollowed out husks of their rocket ships, is pretty neat too.

All in all, Ignition City was a great steampunk-esque adventure comic, and we highly recommend it. We've got the four prior issues well-stocked, so if you haven't yet read it, give it a shot this Wednesday. Otherwise, we know a lot of you guys'll be eager to finish it out, and see the conclusion Ellis has in mind.

WORLDS FINEST #1 DEBUTS THE RETURN OF DC'S WORLDS FINEST! FEATURING RED ROBIN!

The Worlds Finest banner has always been a mark of quality on DC's part. Normally, the Worlds Finest series would focus on a great Superman/Batman team-up, but with Superman doing who knows what in regards to New Krypton, and Batman being... "deceased." It's time for a new generation to fly the flag of World's Finest. In this limited series by Sterling Gates (Geoff Johns's writing protege), Red Robin (Tim Drake) teams up with the mysterious Kryptonian Nightwing, and somehow, someway, Penguin and the Gotham Underground get thrown in the mix. If you're a DC fan, this one looks to be a good read, especially with a rising star writer like Sterling Gates penning it.

A DOUBLE DOSE OF ZENESCOPE THIS WEEK WITH GRIMM FAIRY TALES HALLOWEEN SPECIAL & TALES FROM WONDERLAND MAD HATTER II!

It's time for another dose of guilty pleasure cheesecake art and grisly horrific retellings of classic fairytales from the folks at Zenescope. One of our big guilty pleasures here at Third Eye, we're big fans of Zenescope's Grimm Fairy Tales, and Wonderland series, and we're also big on Halloween specials, so this is a perfect fit. This Wednesday, we'll be getting the Grimm Fairy Tales Halloween Special (all three covers), which features a retelling of the Monkeys Paw with a Zenescope twist, of course, plus some other Halloween goodies.

Also, next up in their famous Wonderland series, comes to the further adventures of the twisted Mad Hatter. We've already met the sick man who's been filling the role of the Mad Hatter, but, who wore the skins before him? The original Mad Hatter gets revealed in this one-shot!

DARK AVENGERS ARES #1 - THE GOD OF WAR GETS HIS OWN LIMITED SERIES THIS WEDNESDAY!

The concept of ARES character is what's got us so into the character. He IS the God of War. He's just as comfortable toting a sub-machine gun, as he is cleaving an axe through someone's head. And, being the God of War, the way the character's portrayed is perfect. He's a soldier. He lives for battle. He lives for war.

Honestly, we weren't sure how we felt about the character when he was originally introduced way back in 2002/2003, but, after his portrayal in those early issues of MIGHTY AVENGERS (the Bendis/Cho run), we were pretty sold on the character. He's just plain cool. The whole "master of any weapon" thing is pretty cool, because it makes sense.. him being the God of War and all.

Of course, Ares hasn't really truly shined until recently in the pages of the DARK AVENGERS. Lets just say that him and Norman Osborn are right in line with their ways of thinking, or so it would seem. And, now Osborn has given Ares his own unit of soldiers to whip into shape, and turn into the most elite H.A.M.M.E.R commandos under Osborn's employ.

Either way, judging from the preview pages we've seen, and the fact that we really do dig the character, we're pretty excited to see how this limited series turns out!

HULK #16 CODE RED PT 3- THE RED SHE-HULK REVEALED! WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT?

Oh, Jeph Loeb, you zany rascal. We don't know what it is about the Red Hulk title, but we just keep coming back month after month. Sometimes.. you just want to see ridiculous, bigger than life, over-the-top stories with awesome art, and Red Hulk definitely delivers that. The recent storyline, featuring Red Hulk and his team, Code Red (composed of.. Deadpool, Crimson Dynamo, Elektra, ect ect.. get it?), going head to head with X-FORCE, has been a lot of fun.
But, the real draw this month? It's the arrival of the Red She-Hulk.. and she's trying to eat Wolverine's face! For big, bad, crazy fun, with some killer artwork... you know this one won't disappoint. And, I know, I know, we still don't know who the Red Hulk is... so, are we ready for a Red She-Hulk? Who knows, who cares, it's going to be big stupid fun, and we're pumped!

STEPHEN KING'S THE TALISMAN GETS THE COMIC BOOK TREATMENT!

We know quite a few of you folks are big Stephen King fans. So, we figured we'd give you a heads up on the next comic book adaption of his works. The Tasliam "Road of Trials" #0 debuts this Wednesday, kicking off the comic book prequel King's Talisman novels.

DEADPOOL 900 POSTER AVAILABLE AT THIRD EYE THIS WEDNESDAY!

And, who doesn't love Deadpool? You can never have too much Merc With A Mouth adorning your walls, and this Wednesday, the killer cover to DEADPOOL 900 by Dave Johnson hits. And, man, what more could you want? It's a pin-up, it's got Mimes, and it's got Deadpool. That's the recipe for an awesome Deadpool poster.

TRY PREACHER WRITER GARTH ENNIS'S THE BOYS! ISSUE #1 AVAILABLE FOR ONLY $1.00 THIS WEEK AT THIRD EYE! IF YOU LIKE IT, GET $1.00 OFF THE BOYS v.1 TRADE PAPERBACK!

Okay, you've been hearing us rave, and rave every month about this series the Boys. Well, now's your chance to try it out, no excuses! The Boys is one of our big favorites here at Third Eye. It's a twisted, darkly humorous series that's set in a world where superheroes are the next step in national defense, and work as private contractors in the military industrial complex. And, they're all REALLY screwed up. Like, mad with power, totally decadent, and carrying a complete disregard for the affairs of normal people. In fact, being a superhero is just a front for most of them, a way to reach fame, and fortune. So, they're basically like celebrities. :)

But, anyways, in this world, there's a group.. the Boys.. that works for the CIA. They exist as the government's means of keeping a leash on the superheroes, so they don't get too big to control. And, the Boys, and their motivation? It's a group, who've all had their lives somehow, someway totally screwed up due to the capes. The story is seen through the eyes of Little Hughie, who you see in the first issue, loses his girlfriend (she's literally ripped from her arms in the crossfire of a superhero fight), and is recruited into the Boys.

Look, this is an awesome series, and we really want to continue getting people into it, because we know you'll find it as entertaining as we do. This Wednesday, you can snag the first issue of the Boys for only $1.00. And, we're going to take things a step further, if you buy the first issue for $1.00, and really enjoy it, then you can grab the graphic novel of Volume 1, for $1.00 off.

So, do yourselves a favor, and try the Boys this week!

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE FOR WEDNESDAY 10/21/09

BLACKEST NIGHT HITS BIG THIS WEEK WITH THE CONCLUSION TO BLACKEST NIGHT SUPERMAN #3 (issues 1 & 2 both well-stocked if you need to catch up), AND DC DIRECT'S BLACKEST NIGHT ACTION FIGURES!

This Wednesday, we've got some big Blackest Night stuff for you guys. And, we know that's what you like to hear, cause just like us, you guys have all been head over heels for what's been DC's best storyline in ages.

On the comics end of things, we've got the conclusion to BLACKEST NIGHT SUPERMAN with BLACKEST NIGHT SUPERMAN #3. The one thing I think that's kept us so into Blackest Night, and has really helped the momentum of the storyline as a whole carry, has been the overall awesomeness of the different tie-in books. In major crossovers, it's very rare that you get total wins on all counts, but with Blackest Night, nearly every tie-in has been a real gem. The Superman one has been especially good with it's usage of Earth-2 Superman as a Black Lantern, and lets not forget the return of Psycho Pirate. Anyways, we're looking forward to seeing how this one is going to wrap up. I mean, the last time we saw Psycho Pirate, he got his face squished through the Medusa Mask... you know that guy's gonna be carrying some serious grief with him. And, if you missed the first two issues of this one, don't worry, we do have plenty of issues 1 and 2 in stock to catch you up. Just click here to read more about BLACKEST NIGHT SUPERMAN #3.

And, then, on the "Cool Things To Have On Your Desk" side of things... check out these awesome little suckers.. the first wave of BLACKEST NIGHT DC Direct action figures hits this Wednesday, featuring RED LANTERN ATROCITUS, ALPHA LANTERN BOODIKA, and BLUE LANTERN ST WALKER. These are just too cool.

COWBOY NINJA VIKING #1 KICKS OFF BRAND NEW IMAGE SERIES THAT KICKS TRIPLE ASS. BEAUTIFUL ARTWORK, FRESH, QUIRKY STORY, ALL IN THE GOLDEN AGE COMIC-FORMAT (similar to VIKING) *THIRD EYE MUST BUY*

Here's one that I am SUPER pumped about. I got a preview copy of this one earlier this month, and read it cover to cover, enjoying every page. It's a brand new Image series, and is one of the freshest new things I've read. The fact that the artwork plays out so nicely in the over-sized Golden Age format size that Image uses for books like Viking is also a big plus.

But, lets cut to the chase, what's the book about? Well, a morally questionable psychotherapist has taken those in society with Multiple Personality Disorder, and found a way of turning them into special agents known as Triplets. Of course, this backfires, and now there's an assassin cadre of Triplets working for an unknown organization.. and it's very bad. And, that's where our hero comes in, the Cowboy Ninja Viking.

Cowboy Ninja Viking, is kind of a Triplet himself, he's got three personalities, one a Cowboy, one a Viking, and one a Ninja. He basically looks like a goof in office clothes carrying a kitana sword, six-guns, and rocking a Viking helmet. Each one of his different personalities speaks in a distinct voice, and the artist has used different word balloons to emphasize this (i.e when the Viking talks, there's a little axe-shape around the word balloon). Of course, the characterization is so spot on (and humorous), that you know right away which voice is which. So, you've got a one man wrecking crew, with three voices arguing over which way to take things... the Ninja being the calm, cool and collected type, the Viking saying they should kill the enemy and eat them, and the Cowboy looking for a brothel.

Does this sound awesome? You bet it does. Anyways, I read the first one. I thought it was great. I don't want to give everything away, but I'd highly recommend giving this one a peek this Wednesday. It's definitely in the same, fresh and original vein that Image has been making a name for itself with books like CHEW, HAUNT, THE SWORD, and more.

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #38 - BRAND NEW DIRECTION AND CREATIVE TEAM! A GREAT JUMPING ON POINT! FEATURING THE WRITER OF JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRY FOR JUSTICE & STARMAN!

Okay, everyone.. it's safe to say, the Justice League just got cool again. While the previous run has had it's shares of ups and downs, I've got to admit, it's been hard for me to stay excited about it because it was so inconsistent. And nine times out of ten, it would always veer off into stories that didn't scream Justice League to me. In my opinion, the Justice League of America should be one of DC's high caliber books. It should be able to stand toe to toe with the Avengers as a top tier book. And, now, with the new direction beginning with James Robinson (writer of the legendary Starman, and the current smash hit Cry for Justice limited series) and Mark Bagley (the man who defined Ultimate Spider-man with Brian Michael Bendis, and has currently been delivering the goods on Batman), I think that we're in store for a return to greatness for the Justice League.

First off, reason number one to jump on with this new direction, is the fact that James Robinson is penning it. This is the man who helped define superhero comics in the '90s with his epic run of Starman (something I'd really recommend reading, if you haven't already), and who has currently been turning all kinds of heads with the recent Justice League Cry for Justice limited series. How does Justice League 38 fit into things? It occurs before Blackest Night has begun, but after Cry for Justice, with the following issue catching the book up to the current events of Blackest Night. In fact, the events of Cry for Justice tie strongly into the new Justice League direction Robinson has planned. It looks like Robinson is pushing the League into a new direction, with a new generation of Justice Leaguers, featuring the likes of Dick Grayson as Batman filling the Caped Crusader's role in the Trinity, Mon-El filling Superman's boots (very reluctantly), and Donna Troy stepping in for Wonder Woman. These are all technically second-gen heroes filling the voids of the big dogs, and it's going to be very interesting to see Robinson play with that dynamic. The line-up also includes other characters, that range from classic (yet underused) like Plastic Man, to a certain Scarlet Speedster we all know and love.

All in all, the art looks great, the story sounds fresh, and tight, and we're excited to see where Robinson is going to take the JLA. Click hereto check out a preview of JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #38

AZRAEL #1 DEBUTS THE BRAND NEW AZRAEL ONGOING SERIES THIS WEDNESDAY, AS THE DARKER SIDE OF GOTHAM CITY IS EXPLORED!

One of DC's most popular characters in the '90s was Azrael, the replacement for Batman after Knightfall. And, during the events of BATTLE FOR THE COWL, a new man is wearing the mantle of Azrael, and the new ongoing series featuring the character begins this Wednesday. This picks up right off the events of BATMAN ANNUAL #27 and DETECTIVE COMICS ANNUAL #11, with the EIGHTH DEADLY SIN storyline.

The art for this one looks slick, and the story could go either way, but we're very intrigued. The idea of an Angel of Justice working for a religious order, and existing in the turmoil of Gotham City is definitely an interesting concept that we're eager to see play out.

CHEW #5 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, CONTINUING ONE OF THE FRESHEST, STRANGEST STORYLINES OF 2009! CANNIBAL SPECIAL AGENT AWESOMENESS!

Chew has taken Third Eye by storm this year. This quirky, bizarre new Image series featuring a cibopathic detective (cibopathic meaning he gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats), and his corpse-munching adventures in a world where all poultry is illegal due to bird flue.... is just too awesome to be contained, folks. Seriously though, we love Chew. It's weird, it's fresh, it's fun, and it's got that perfect dark humor vein running through it that makes Third Eye all warm and fuzzy inside. Anyways, what more can we say about Chew? If you aren't reading it, give it a shot, the trade paperback should be due out within the next week or two, but if you're already reading it... then we know you guys'll be eagerly waiting to snag up this week's issue!

SPIDER-WOMAN #2 FOLLOWS UP THE FIRST ISSUE OF BENDIS & MALEEV'S DARK, GRITTY NEW ONGOING SERIES! LIMITED QUANTITIES OF #1 STILL IN STOCK, IF YOU MISSED IT!

So, did you read Spiderwoman #1? It ruled, didn't it? Bendis and Maleev, those guys are a true dream team, man. Their work on Daredevil is what got me excited about this current run, and man, am I stoked to see where it's going to go. The first issue set the stage for Spiderwoman as a book to be a very dark, moody, espionage-esque series focusing on Jessica Drew as an alien-hunting, alien-exterminating badass. It's not a traditional superhero book, not by any stretch. She's a killer. And, to be honest, the book reminds me more of titles like Ed Brubaker's Sleeper, Gotham Central, and obviously, Bendis's DD run.

Spider-woman works for SWORD, in an effort to hunt down and exterminate the 32 different alien races living in hiding on the planet Earth. And, her first mission has taken her straight to Madripoor to do SWORD'S dirty work.

And if you missed the first issue, even though it's now out of print, and second prints are on the way, we still do have a few copies left in stock here at Third Eye for you to catch up with. So, be sure to snag it up if you haven't already!

STUFF OF LEGEND #2 FOLLOWS UP THE FIRST ISSUE OF THIRD EYE'S INDIE HIT OF THE YEAR! IT'S TOY STORY MEETS SAVING PRIVATE RYAN DIRECTED BY GUILERMO DEL TORO... SOUND COOL? READ ON! PLUS, PLENTY OF #1 IN STOCK FOR THOSE WHO MAY HAVE MISSED IT.

One of the things that I'm really proud of about our store is how you guys are always ahead of the curve when catching the new stuff that rules. When Stuff of Legend was first solicited way back in the Spring of this past year, it was just a small block of text buried in the back of the Previews catalog. I was lucky enough to get one of the preview copies that the publisher had sent out, and man, it blew me away. So, when the book blew up a week or so after release, and became this huge thing, I can proudly say that you guys were already ahead of the curve, and on what became the biggest indie book of 2009. At the end of the day, we do this cause we love comics as a medium, and helping make new creators and titles break big, is a great feeling.

Anyways, enough of me getting mushy, lets talk about Stuff of Legend. My tag line for it is pretty fitting, it's Toy Story meets Saving Private Ryan, as directed by Guilermo Del Toro... seriously though, this one smokes, folks. Gorgeous, GORGEOUS, artwork, and an incredible story. Basically, a young boy gets kidnapped during WW2, and taken into the Boogey-man's realm. His toys come to life to rescue him, and when they cross through to the Boogeyman's realm, everything becomes pretty horrifying and grisly (i.e the teddy bear becomes a giant, clawed grizzly bear, ect).

All in all, this one is a must for fans of good comics, as a whole. But, especially for those of you who really dig stuff like Fables. Anyways, I can't recommend it enough, and I know many of you guys'll be waiting eagerly for Wednesday to snatch up the second issue.

Did you miss #1? Don't worry, we'll have plenty of #1 in stock as well, so you can snag em both up in one shot if you missed the first one already!

GREAT WEEK FOR TRADES: NEW SCALPED v.5 HIGH LONESOME, BPRD v.11 THE BLACK GODDESS, FINAL CRISIS LEGION OF THREE WORLDS HC AND ALEX ROSS'S UNCLE SAM BACK IN PRINT!

It's a great week for new trade paperbacks here at Third Eye! First off, SCALPED VOLUME 5 arrives collecting the next chunk of grimy, dark noir-fused storytelling that Jason Aaron has gotten us hooked with. Why do we love Scalped? Scalped is a character-driven descent into hell, where there's no good, and there's no bad. It's basically THE WIRE if the WIRE was set on an Indian reservation. Good guys go bad, bad guys go good, and nothing is as it seems. The book si very much an ensemble piece, and the only true constant character is the reservation itself.
We love SCALPED.

Next up, is the newest BPRD trade, which is BPRD v.11 BLACK GODDESS. This one is the second act in Mignola's Scorched Earth trilogy, and is as you can always expect from the dark, and creepy world of BPRD, a great read.

Next up, Geoff Johns and George Perez delivered one of the best things to come out of Final Crisis last year with FINAL CRISIS LEGION OF THREE WORLDS. We're stoked to see the gorgeous hardcover collected edition of this one hitting this week. And we know a lot of you are too!

Finally, to complete our foursome of killer new trades hitting (and trust us, there's more than just these four, but we thought we'd narrow it down!) is the new edition of ALEX ROSS'S UNCLE SAM story. Where the American icon is portrayed as a delusiona vagrant, plagued with history travelling visions of America's darker secrets. All in all, a great story, and we're glad to see it back in print. Click here to read more about UNCLE SAM.

BEASTS OF BURDEN #2 FOLLOWS UP THE FIRST ISSUE OF EVAN DORKIN & JILL THOMPSONS AWESOME ANIMAL GHOST-HUNTERS BOOK!

Most of you already know that Third Eye are huge animal lovers. So, this one's a no-brainer for us. But, hey, check it out, it's actually REALLY good. First off, it's written by Evan Dorkin, who is one of the funniest comic book guys around today, and a personal favorite of mine. His work on stuff like Milk & Cheese and Dork is classic, and it's cool seeing him bring these character, the Beasts, into the limelight with their own series.

What are the Beasts of Burden? Well, it's basically a group of dogs (and a cat), who find themselves getting into zany, misadventures hunting ghosts, demons, and all sorts of other madness. So, yeah, it's a talking animal book, BUT, it's the most charming, witty, and entertaining little comic you'll wanna read. If you want something kind of fun, a little light-hearted, but still written with a good slant, we can't recommend Beasts of Burden enough.

DARK REIGN: THE LIST HULK ONE-SHOT *DARK REIGN: LIST CHAPTER 5* ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY EXPLORING THE HULK'S ROLE IN NORMAN OSBORN'S MASTER PLAN!

Marvel's DARK REIGN: THE LIST has been the perfect way to bring DARK REIGN near to it's end, and set the stage for the highly anticipated SEIGE that begins in 2010. Top notch writers and artists telling strong self-contained stories that link together in a unifying way to get everything in order for the next step in the progression of the storytelling. It's good stuff. So far, we haven't had one of these LIST one-shots disappoint us. This week, the DARK REIGN: LIST continues with Chapter 5 being DARK REIGN THE LIST HULK one-shot.

Written by PLANET HULK scribe, GREG PAK, this one takes a look at Osborn as he hunts down Bruce Banner, and the Son of the Hulk, Skaar. And, how does he plan to take em out? He's got a whole bevy of his most dangerous femme fatales gunning for em.

This one follows right after DARK REIGN THE LIST SECRET WARRIORS *CHAPTER 4*, and should shed some light on a corner of the Marvel Universe that Dark Reign has not yet touched.

And, for those of you who may be unclear on the reading order it's:
DARK REIGN THE LIST AVENGERS - CHAPTER 1
DARK REIGN THE LIST DAREDEVIL - CHAPTER 2
DARK REIGN THE LIST X-MEN - CHAPTER 3
DARK REIGN THE LIST SECRET WARRIORS - CHAPTER 4

DARK AVENGERS #10 - NORMAN OSBORN HAS LOST HIS MIND! ARE YOU REALLY SURPRISED?

I think we all knew it was only a matter of time before Osborn lost his cool. I mean, he's been a ticking time bomb ready to go off since before this whole thing began. In fact, if you look back to the incredible Ellis run of Thunderbolts (which pretty much was the prototype for DARK AVENGERS), you could see Osborn was about to crack his shell then. And, now, according to the solicits (and you know how enigmatic Marvel can be with their's), this issue has ol' Norman Osborn finally going off the deep end, as big things go down in the world of the DARK AVENGERS.

So, I guess, the only thing we can do, Third Eye Faithful, is wait and find out this Wednesday just what they've got in store for us!

Click here for a preview of DARK AVENGERS #10

UNDERGROUND #2 FOLLOWS UP THE FIRST ISSUE OF THE NEW IMAGE SERIES THAT IS "THE DESCENT" OF COMIC BOOKS!

Here's one that really impressed us last month, Image Comics new limited series, UNDERGROUND. And, basically, if you've seen the horror film, the DESCENT about some cave-diving folk running into all kinds of flesh-eating beasties, then you've got a good idea of just what this one's all about.
Now let me say, one of the things that made this comic so darn cool was that the writer JEFF PARKER managed to make a comic about caves and park rangers COOL. The first issue was a fast-paced read that really shows a lot of passion in the storytelling, and the characters are really well put together.

And yes, it's about caves, with monsters, and horrible other things dwelling underneath, and the ballsy park ranger who's going in after them.

It rocks, and if you missed #1, fear not, cause we still got some in stock for you to catch up with!

DEADPOOL: MERC WITH A MOUTH #4 CONTINUES THE HEADPOOL INSANITY!

Deadpool? Over-exposed? We don't think so! We have to admit, we were worried when we first saw that the Merc With A Mouth was getting hit with a second ongoing series, limited series galore, and all these one-shots. But you know what, we can't get enough. We're really hooked on Merc With A Mouth, especially, as it's the most bizarre, over-the-top, fourth-wall breaking Deadpool insanity-a-thon that we've seen.

Plus, while we're suckers for a good cover, and the covers on this title have been over-the-top, folks.

Anyways, the madness in the Savage Land continues, as Deadpool, is fending off crazy cavemen, and Headpool keeps on spreading that zombie plague to the Savage Land and beyond. And, of course, one bite could be all it takes to give us TWO zombie Deadpools. Now, what madness would that be?

And, c'mon, the Scarface homage cover is AWESOME.

Clickhere to read a preview of DEADPOOL MERC WITH A MOUTH 4

SUGARSHOCK ONE-SHOT WRITTEN BY JOSS WHEDON (FIREFLY, SERENITY, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER... you know, THAT guy).

Joss Whedon. That's all you need to say, folks, and we're in. This is the guy who gave us crazy, awesome sci-fi western madness with FIREFLY/SERENITY, and the man who created BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. Not to mention, he redefined the world of the X-MEN with his run on ASTONISHING X-MEN.

And this week, we've got this cool little one-shot from Joss Whedon and Fabio Moon about the rock band, SUGARSHOCK, who's got a frontwoman with a big hate-on for Vikings, and a bass player that's a robot. And, from there, who knows where this thing goes.. all we know is it's Whedon at his wittiest, and most hyper-active, and we can't wait to give it a read this Wednesday.

SOMETHING FOR YOUR MOM: OPRAH WINFREY GETS A COMIC THIS WEDNESDAY!

All right, Third Eye Faithful, it's time to do something nice for your wives, moms, and girlfriends. Everyone has one woman in their life who is a huge Oprah fan, and this Wednesday, her life story is being laid out in the pages of the latest Bluewater Female Force comics. Oprah's an international icon, and we know that Momma Third Eye is gonna be getting one of these, cause she loves everything Oprah. Pick one up for mom, and you can remind her where to get you gift cards this Christmas when you give it to her. :)

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE FOR WEDNESDAY 10/14/09

MAGNETO RETURNS THIS WEDNESDAY IN UNCANNY X-MEN #516, AS "NATION X" BEGINS!

Magneto is a villain who should be seen on the same scope as Dr. Doom, or Norman Osborn. In fact, his character is so rich, and strong, that he's the best kind of villain: the kind you can almost relate to. It seems like for the last two decades, Marvel hasn't really known what to do with Magneto. Even in Morrison's EPIC run, Marvel editorial kind of came in and put the whole "that wasn't REALLY Magneto" thing in there to minimize the impact of what he'd done. Half the time, he ends up coming off as a confused character, who's not really a strong, defiant villain, nor a hero. The fact is though, Magneto is a supervillain, and a fine example of one. His appearance is iconic, his reasoning is sound, and when they've got a good writer on board with him, he's an awesome character.

Now, you're probably wondering why I'm rambling on about all this Magneto stuff? Well, to be honest, it's all of those reasons above why I'm excited about Matt Fraction (the man responsible for making Iron Man one of the coolest books on the racks, and helping re-invent Iron Fist with Brubaker) and Greg Land's upcoming Nation X storyline. It's the Return of Magneto, flat out. And not, the weak, depowered Magneto we saw recently, but the real deal, pulling metal skeletons out of Wolverines, dropping steel girders on crowds of innocent bystandards, and trying to do what's best for the mutant race Magneto.

Marvel hasn't given us a whole lot to go on about what the plot of Nation X is, but we do know that Asteroid M has been rediscovered, and that alone is an interesting turn of events.

Sheer speculation from us here at Third Eye as to some central points to Magneto's return? Cyclops has been making some very Magneto-like decisions over the last few years, and we feel that it's something Magneto may have taken notice of... could this be a shift over to the dark side for Scott Summers? Again, it's only sheer speculation, but we could see that plot point playing out really well.

Either way, one of the biggest comic book badasses of any '80s and '90s comic fan is returning this Wednesday, and he's got a stellar creative team penning him. It's sure to be a killer read, and we're pumped.

BLACKEST NIGHT CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY ASBLACKEST NIGHT BATMAN #3 WRAPS UP THAT ARC, PLUS BLACKEST NIGHT BATMAN 1&2 BACK IN STOCK, AND GREEN LANTERN CORPS #41 BRINGS OA TO THE BRINK OF DESTRUCTION!

The carnage of Blackest Night continues this Wednesday as the limited run of BLACKEST NIGHT BATMAN concludes, and the Green Lantern Corps goes head to head with the Black Lanterns on Oa as they attempt to decimate the Power Battery.
Folks, if you're not reading some of these rock solid Blackest Night tie-ins, you are missing out! They have been delivering the goods on nearly every one of the tie-in series. From the BN Superman to the BN Titans to this week's BN Batman, they've all been GREAT reads. If you haven't yet checked out Blackest Night Batman, as of Wednesday we'll have all three issues in stock for you to catch up with. Give it a shot, it's guaranteed good! I mean, the whole idea of a Black Lantern Rogues Gallery consisting of dead Batman and Nightwing rogues.. that alone is a total win.
As for the Green Lantern Corps, if you haven't been reading this one, you're sleeping on a very good title. Even before Blackest Night began, the Corps was rocking and rolling with the Mongul War story arc, and Sins of the Star Sapphire. It really is a well-written book, that we feel often gets overlooked next to the monumental Green Lantern main title. Anyways, this week, in GL Corps #41, the Black Lantern Corps of Oa are battling the remnants of the Green Lantern Corps, and pushing towards destroying the Power Battery. With a legion of undead Green Lanterns, some obscure, some well-known, this one has been a real treat for both long-time GL fans, and those new to the world of GL.

NOIR GRAPHIC NOVEL DELIVERS AN ANTHOLOGY OF THE DARKEST CRIME COMICS IMAGINED, FEATURING WORK BY ED BRUBAKER (CRIMINAL,INCOGNITO), BRIAN AZZARELLO (100 BULLETS, JOKER), DAVID LAPHAM (STRAY BULLETS, YOUNG LIARS), CHRIS OFFUTT (HBO'S TRUE BLOOD) & MORE! *THIRD EYE MUST BUY*

I think it's pretty obvious that we're all big crime fiction buffs here at Third Eye. I mean, whether it's old school pulp novels from the likes of Max Allan Collins, or new school graphic novel hardboiled goodies like SCALPED and CRIMINAL, we have a real appreciation for the genre.

And, this, folks, is why I am so pumped for this new anthology graphic novel, NOIR, from DARK HORSE COMICS (publishers of HELLBOY, BPRD, and more). This anthology collection has a literal who's who of solid contributors, like 100 Bullets author BRIAN AZZARELLO, Stray Bullets/Young Liars creator DAVID LAPHAM, INCOGNITO/CRIMINAL creative team ED BRUBAKER & SEAN PHILLIPS, and even one of the creative forces behind HBO'S TRUE BLOOD series.

Chockfull of brand new, original content from these great talents, this one looks to be a very promising start for what could be a compelling yearly anthology series. Give it a look this week, folks, we've seen previews, and we're definitely calling this one as a Third Eye Must Buy.

DEADPOOL #900 DELIVERS A 104-PAGED ONE-SHOT SLAB OF DEADPOOL GOODNESS BY AN ALL-STAR CAST OF CREATORS THIS WEDNESDAY

Deadpool has been Marvel's most popular character in years. His cult following exploded when the Merc With A Mouth was given his own ongoing series again for the first time in over a decade. And, ever since, it's been a Wade Wilson kind of world. How do we feel about Deadpool? Personally, I love most of his books. I worry sometimes about Marvel stretching him a little too thin, and overexposing him, but I mean, every generation of comic fans needs their own fourth-wall breaking, ultraviolent fun character, and Deadpool fits the bill perfectly for the 21st Century.

What's so special about this week's Deadpool #900? It's a one-shot, 104 pages, packed full of Deadpool awesomeoness. That alone is a good start. However, what's really got me excited is the list of creators onboard for this riff on Marvel's 600 issues. Jason Aaron (Vertigo's SCALPED), Duane Swierczynski (Cable, Immortal Weapons), Charlie Huston (famed crime novelist), and Joe Kelly (in my opinion, THE best man to write Deadpool) taking their shots at the character. MEANWHILE, you've got artists lined up like Kyle Baker, and yes, even Rob Liefeld (not sure if we'd call it a selling point, but the man did invent the character, so he definitely deserves his spot in this one).

It's gonna be Deadpool vs. Mobsters, Aliens, Machine-gun toting Mimes, and much more. And it's going to rule.

THE ANCHOR #1 "GOD'S LEG BREAKER" FROM BOOM! COMICS (publishers of IRREDEEMABLE, 28 DAYS LATER, ect) DEBUTS CREEPY, PULP HERO AWESOMENESS IN THE VEIN OF HELLBOY & THE GOON THIS WEDNESDAY!

Boom! has been impressing the heck out of us here at Third Eye this year. They've really come into their own as one of the top tier independent publishers, and have put out a very rich library of good books in the last year or two. From Mark Waid's Superman Gone Evil epic, Irredeemable, to some of their killer licensed books like 28 Days Later and Die Hard Year One to some of the more eccentric titles like Poe, they've been on point.

A new ongoing series that looks to deliver ten tons of weird tales, modern day bloody knuckled pulp hero action is The Anchor. The Anchor.. a holy warrior, a freak of nature, a beast of burden, a viking raider.. he's been it all. As the solicits describe him, the Anchor is God's Leg Breaker.

Basically, one thousand years ago, an exiled beast of a man was taken into an ancient holy temple. He gave the only thing he could in return for their kindness: his fists. Now, an immortal warrior monk, he's' all that stands between the invading armies of Hell and mankind.

Sound epic? This one looks to deliver the same kind of creepy, pulpy awesomeness as Mike Mignola's Hellboy and BPRD books, but with some of the quirky humor of the critically acclaimed Goon series. Definitely give it a look this Wednesday! Also, remember, while we've ordered heavily on this one, it's a Boom book, and they go out of print quick, so if you're interested in this one and can't make it in this week, shoot me an email about setting one aside for you. I'm pretty sure we won't sell out that fast, but, with the low print runs on Boom titles, I always like to put that out there.

MAX BROOKS (AUTHOR OF WORLD WAR Z, ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE) DEBUTS FIRST COMIC WORK WITH THIS WEEK'S ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE: RECORDED ATTACKS GRAPHIC NOVEL

A lot of you are already familiar with MAX BROOKS. One of the few guys who's able of coming remotely close to Robert Kirkman (author of Walking Dead) in terms of good zombie storytelling. Brooks hit the scene with his Zombie Survival Guide, and then World War Z, both of which added a whole new life to zombie fiction.
Now, Brooks, is taking a stab at doing sequential art, and he's bringing his zombie world to us in the pages of the ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE: RECORDED ATACKS book this week. It's a historical backtracking of zombie attacks going as far back as the days of the Roman Empire.
Either way, we know that Brooks has the chops to write some compelling, and refreshing zombie stuff, and while horror comics are plentiful these days, we feel this one'l
Are You Reading BLACKEST NIGHT writer Geoff Johns's ADVENTURE COMICS YET? Adventure Comics #3 Ships This Wednesday, and man, are we stoked!

Are you reading ADVENTURE COMICS yet? Geoff Johns is knocking it out of the park with this one, and it just keeps getting better and better. And this is coming from a guy who has never, ever, been a Superboy fan. I mean, I liked him in Johns's Teen Titans, but the character just never clicked for me. Johns's new Adventure Comics series though is adding so many interesting, compelling dimensions to Connr Kent's character, not to mention the dynamics between him and his supporting cast, that it's hard NOT to dig it. Not to mention, Francis Manapul is delivering some gorgeous pencils on each and every issue.

And if you missed out on the first issues, DON'T SWEAT IT! We've still got plenty of #1 and #2 to catch you up. Give this book a try, folks, and you'll find out why we're so into it. It's just good all the way around. And with this week's issue focusing on a reunion between Tim Drake and Connor Kent.. well, heck, we can't wait to see Johns writing Red Robin in this issue.

MARVELS PROJECT #3 CONTINUES ED BRUBAKER AND STEVE EPTING'S COMPELLING ORIGIN OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE!

Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting's Marvels Project has been a fantastic read so far. And, this is coming from a guy who really has no strong affinity to the Invaders-era Marvel Characters. But, in this limited series, where Brubaker is unravelling the official 616 Origin of the Marvel Universe, he is making characters that never clicked for me very cool.

Sure, the simple way of looking at it is it's the birth of Superhumans during WW 2, a result of the arms race between Nazi Germany and the Allies. But, if you read a little deeper into the clues Brubaker's laying, he's laying out a map that makes sense of the continuity of the Marvel Universe. Basically, connecting the old pulp Marvel characters like Ka-Zar and Rawhide Kid, and linking their beginnings with the Marvel Universe as a whole.

Plus, you get scene after scene of Namor dropping waves on Nazis, and breaking their necks as they drown to a watery grave below. How can you not love that?

More or less, there's a lot more to the Marvels Project than meets the eye. I suggest clicking here to read this interview with ED BRUBAKER about the Marvels Project in it's place in the Marvel Universe. And, if you're looking to catch up on the series, don't worry, Third Eye's still got 1s and 2s in stock.

WEB OF SPIDER-MAN #1 DEBUTS NEW ONGOING SERIES THAT TIES DIRECTLY INTO THE EVENTS OF THE UPCOMING "GAUNTLET" STORYLINE!

A brand new ongoing Spidey series is always something to shine notice on. Now, while we were a little lukewarm at first about the idea of adding another book just when the character was starting to get back to being awesome (you know, too much too soon and all), we do have to admit that we're intrigued to see how this ties into the upcoming Spider-man: Gauntlet storyline that everyone is excited about.

And, for those of you die-hard fans of the Wallcrawler, you get another monthly dose of Spidey, so that's always a plus too.

But, honestly, my main interest in this one is the Gauntlet. That storyline is going to SMOKE. Plus, the art on this one looks pretty sick, and it's bringing back some characters which I remember from when I was a kid, which is kind of cool. Looking forward to giving this one a read and seeing how it is.

BLACKBEARD: LEGEND OF THE PYRATE KING #1 FROM DYNAMITE ENTERTAINMENT RESURRECTS ANOTHER CLASSIC CHARACTER WITH A MODERN COMIC STORYTELLING EDGE! VIOLENT, BLOODY PIRATE MAYHEM

Who doesn't love pirates? Maybe the popularity of these savage madmen is due to the sense of freedom they represent. The freedom to go out there, and take the world however you want it. And, now before you think ol' Steve's getting ol' philosophical on you... I'm just saying that the popularity of pirates has been growing since the end of the 20th century.

And, who better to key into this natural love for pirate mayhem then the fine folks at Dynamite Entertainment, the publishers of such modern-day revivals as Sherlock Holmes. They know how to take a classic and legendary character and resurrect them with the kind of modern storytelling, and cutting edge artwork that makes comics so damn good these days. This new series looks to explore the entire, fantastic legacy of Blackbeard the Pirate King, starting with his days as a child, and going all the way through to his savage, murderous ways. The art looks outstanding, and the idea looks solid enough for this one to be worth taking a look at.

THE COMIC BOOK LEGAL DEFENSE FUND PRESENTS LIBERTY COMICS #2 THIS WEEK FEATURING STORIES FROM JIM LEE, NEIL GAIMAN, BRIAN WOOD, AND MORE!

Did you know there's still people out there who don't want us reading comic books? That's right, folks, it's rare, but there are people who'd love to see comics burnt pile upon pile, just like back during the whole Frederic Wertham scandals of the '40s and '50s. Why? Don't ask me, I never understood myself. Fact is, comics are one of the last art forms to still remain predominantly untouched by the hands of mega-conglomerates. Oh, I know, Disney bought Marvel, Time Warner owns DC, and this causes them to ge their hands into the media aspects of the characters. But, lets be real, you can do stuff in comics nowadays that you can't get away with anywhere else. Not even talking about stuff that's graphic, but just things that are unconventional or non-traditional in approach. And, this, my friends, is one of the things I love about comics.

It's also one of the things that some people hate about them. Anyways, let me end my rant, and get to the point. The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund does a lot of good by providing legal help for comic book creators, retailers, and everything in between in case they get hit with some kind of severe legal case. And why are they there? Well, comic shop retailers, we don't make a lot of dough, so we don't exactly have the funds to get a top notch legal defense team. And, comic book creators, being independent contractors, for the most part, often find themselves in binds as well, where they can't afford that kind of help. That's what we have the CBLDF for, among other things.

And, this Wednesday, they're releasing the second in their Liberty Comics line, which will include a story by Jim Lee and Neil Gaiman, as well as work by Brian Wood, Paul Pope, Mike Allred, Jason Aaron, Ben Templesmith, and many more.

So, not only are you supporting a good cause, but you're getting a good slab of reading!
