THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS!!

WALKING DEAD VOLUME 9 TPB available this Wednesday!!

It's always cause for celebration when one of the most popular series here at Third Eye gets a new collected edition, and this Wednesday, all you trade-waiters can get your hands on the next installment of The Walking Dead. I know it's been a long, brutal wait after the heart-wrenching events of volume 8, and I can't say much without giving away any spoilers, but now the wait is over. Volume 9, "Here We Remain", of the Walking Dead gives us a look at the events in the aftermath of volume 8. Tragedy, and new characters both play a big part into this volume, and I really should shut up now so I don't spoil a single drop of story for you guys!

MARVEL'S WAR OF KINGS!!  (FANS OF ANNIHILATION, TAKE NOTE) begins this Wednesday!!

We know that everyone's got their heads filled with all sorts of conspiracy goodness with all the awesomeness that Dark Reign has been bringing to the Marvel Universe, but don't sleep on the amazing WAR OF KINGS. The Annihilation series from a few years ago really led the charge of a revival of Marvel's cosmic characters. Characters that had been written off as boring, impossible to write, or just plain lame were revamped and turned into examples of just what a good creative team could do for any book. And this week, we get to see just what the team of Abnett & Lanning have in store for the Marvel universe. Spinning out of the events of recent Marvel storylines like Ed Brubaker's UNCANNY X-MEN: RISE AND FALL OF THE SHI'AR EMPIRE, SECRET INVASION, ANNIHILATION, and of course, ongoing series like NOVA, and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, WAR OF KINGS promises to be the throwdown to end all throwdowns, and this week's SECRET INVASION: WAR OF KINGS one-shot is the perfect set up you need for this big event.

The events of Secret Invasion and Secret Invasion Inhumans has shaken the moon-dwelling Inhumans to their core, and with the rapidly expanding empire of Vulcan growing, the galaxy is in a huge state of turmoil. Expect to see BIG things happen that impact not only the X-Men, or the Cosmic-based characters, but, the entire Marvel universe as a whole! Click here for a preview of Secret Invasion: WAR OF KINGS!

And, in case you missed it last week! Guardians of the Galaxy #8 was the first book to be tagged with the War of Kings banner, and features some important lead-in stuff to this huge event. Don't worry, we've still got it in stock here at Third Eye, but just wanted to give you a heads up!

PUNISHER #1  - DARK REIGN BRINGS AWESOME PUNISHER ONGOING SERIES

So, like a lot of you, I was pretty damn bummed when Ennis's run on Punisher MAX ended. That, to me, was THE Punisher book, and I think for a long time, it will stand on it's own two feet as a classic run, and as something very defining that was done with the character. And, after it was over, I kind of felt like there wasn't a whole lot of new ground that could be covered with the character. I'll admit, when the new Punisher ongoing series from Marvel was announced, I wasn't too excited.. and then our Marvel guy was kind enough to give retailers a FULL preview of issue #1. And, holy smokes, this series looks like it's going to be AWESOME. Written by Marvel newcomer, Rick Remender, the man who's done some great creator-owned stuff like The End League, Fear Agent, and more, with some of the freshest new art I've seen in a Marvel Comic from Fear Agent artist, Jerome Opena, the new Punisher ongoing series looks to be a surprise hit.

This new series ties strongly into Dark Reign, and starts out with ol' Frank Castle perched atop a building, with a Skrull sniper rifle, targeted right at Norman Osborn's head.. and who's there to save the day? The Sentry. This series looks like it'll do a damn good job of bringing the Punisher back into Marvel continuity without any corniness. Trust me, folks, I read the preview issue... and you want to jump onto a Punisher book right from the start? Give this one a shot. I was EXTREMELY impressed by the first ish. DC COMICS BEGINS "FACES OF EVIL" THIS WEEK!

DC Comics has an exciting event planned for this winter, and it's been dubbed FACES OF EVIL. While it's not exactly an EVENT per se, Faces of Evil is more about highlighting and focusing on important DC villains that will be playing a big role in the series that's spotlighting them. I.E Hush shows up on the cover of Detective Comics, chances are he somehow fits into a grander sense of that series, and the DCU as a whole. The ones that look to be the most exciting are the one-shots featuring characters like Prometheas, and Solomon Grundy. So, just like we do with Dark Reign, we'll be giving you a forecast each week of what titles you can expect to see featuring the FACES OF EVIL tag, and of course, giving you the skinny on the ones that look REALLY REALLY good.

And speaking of really really good, DC starts things off with a bang this week with FACES OF EVIL: SOLOMON GRUNDY  one-shot by GEOFF JOHNS and SCOTT KOLINS (the creative team behind some great Flash story arcs like Rogues, and the more recent Final Crisis ROGUES REVENGE). This one looks like it's going to be a good read, as Geoff John retells and explores the secret history of this enigmatic, but always intriguing DC monster. Johns has a certain skill for taking older characters like this, and revitalizing them for modern times, and we here at Third Eye can't wait to see what he does with one of our favorite classic villains! Click here  to read more about FACES OF EVIL: GRUNDY!

Meanwhile, in the pages of this week's Detective Comics 852 , we get to see Hush and Catwoman throw down after the events of Heart of Hush! Over in Secret Six #5 , which is by far one of the best new DC ongoing series we're reading here at Third Eye (and we just got a bunch of #1s back in stock, so CHECK IT OUT!!!) we get to see the Six run through a number of DCU heroes and villains in their race to Gotham City.

DARK REIGN FORECAST FOR WEDNESDAY 1/7/09

Now it's time for your weekly Dark Reign forecast for the week, and this week, we've got a whopper of a Dark Reign tie-in, with Punisher #1 . The first issue of the new ongoing series. Look, you already read about me gushing over this up above, so I'll keep it short, but just scroll up, and read all those good things I had to say about what I thought of Punisher #1 ... and then take my advice, and snag up the first issue of this exciting new series on Wednesday. Invincible Iron Man #9  is the other one to look out for this week in the realm of Dark Reign, with this follow up to issue #8 that features the armored avenger on the run from Norman Osborn and his thugs. Trust us, Invincible Iron Man has become one of our favorites here at Third Eye, and we're so glad that everyone's getting the chance to see what we've been raving about with Matt Fraction's writing. X-MEN NOIR #2 CONTINUES THE HIT LIMITED SERIES THIS WEEK!

First off, the #1 of this series SOLD OUT within two days of release at comic shops all over the damn place, but, DON'T WORRY, if you missed it.. we have some here at Third Eye still! And, now, this week, we get the second installment of this highly anticipated, and extremely unique limited series that plays into the Marvel Noirverse. Imagine Marvel Characters against a 1930s crime noir backdrop, everything is different, and the mood is bleak. Very dark, moody artwork accompanies a fantastic story from rising star writer Fred Van Lente (the man behind such fan favorites as the recent Marvel Zombies 3, Incredible Hercules, and more). Don't miss the second issue of this highly anticipated new limited series! Click here  to read more about X-Men Noir #2!

MARVEL ZOMBIES 3 #4 LURCHES ONTO THE RACKS THIS WEDNESDAY!

One of 2008's biggest surprises for me was Marvel Zombies 3. I loved the original Marvel Zombies, but I thought that Marvel Zombies 2 was a total letdown. Marvel Zombies 3 surprised the HELL out of me! First, they took one of my favorite characters from the totally underrated Nextwave series (which you can catch up on now in the trades), Machine Man, paired him up with that disturbingly hot robot, Jocasta, and then sent them on a crazy zombie-soaked journey that finally unites the Marvel 616verse with the Marvel zombieverse. This series, which is being written by Fred Van Lente, the man behind the red hot X-MEN NOIR series, and INCREDIBLE HERCULES, is some of the most fun we're having with comics. So, don't miss out on this issue which concludes MARVEL ZOMBIES 3!
