THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE 3/11/09!

AVAILABLE @ THIRD EYE THIS WEDNESDAY 3/11/09!

....
BATMAN: BATTLE FOR THE COWL BEGINS THIS WEEK WITH BATTLE FOR THE COWL #1 OF 3 WHO WILL BE THE NEW BATMAN?

This is one of the big ones we're extremely excited about for this Spring. The Battle for the Cowl begins this Wednesday, and we couldn't be more stoked. Lets face it, everyone loves Batman. And, Battle For The Cowl looks like it's going to be one of the freshest Batman stories to hit the racks in a good long time. DC has been tight lipped with us on the details, but just the promo pieces alone for it have us stoked. That one image of Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, Jason Todd, and Two-Face all in different variations of the Batman costume paint a pretty interesting picture.
Batman's dead. Gotham city is in chaos. Who will take up the mantle of the Bat? The destruction of a sacred Gotham institution, guest-stars from all across the Batman universe, and more Gotham craziness than you can shake a Batarang at, this one has all the makings of introducing an extremely exciting new storyline into the DCU.
Who will be the new Batman? Nightwing? Robin? Jason Todd? Batwoman? The recently returned Azrael? And how do these events effect the seedy underbelly of Gotham and Batman's deadly rogue's gallery? It all begins this week in BATTLE FOR THE COWL #1! Click hereto read more about BATTLE FOR THE COWL #1!
AND JUST IN CASE YOU MISSED IT LAST WEEK:GOTHAM GAZETTE BATMAN'S DEAD? one-shot is a nice prelude into BATTLE FOR THE COWL. We didn't give it a big mention last week, because DC didn't properly advertise it in their solicits to us, but this one-shot featuring a man on the street perspective of Batman's death is a nice little lead-in to Battle for the Cowl. We have PLENTY in stock here at Third Eye, so if you need one, we've got it!

GREEN LANTERN CORPS #34 "PRELUDE TO BLACKEST NIGHT" CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY!

The most anticipated summer crossover in a very long time, Blackest Night, continues to build in the pages of this week's GREEN LANTERN CORPS #34! Mongul's got an army of Superman-esque aliens and Sinestro Corps Yellow Lanterns under his command, and he's not pulling any punches. The excitement continues to brew in both the pages of GREEN LANTERN CORPS (which has always been a vastly underrated title) and GREEN LANTERN as we get closer and closer to BLACKEST NIGHT. Geoff Johns has been crafting a very awesome story, folks! Between the introduction of the several different color Lantern corps, and the development of classic characters and villains, this one is a must.
Do not miss out on what have been the most consistently enthralling DC titles to hit the racks in the last few years. These events have been brewing since 2006 in the pages of the Sinestro Corps War. Click here to read more about GREEN LANTERN CORPS #34!
We've also included below a nice little checklist for you to follow in gearing up for BLACKEST NIGHT. Below is a look at what you should give a peek in anticipation of BLACKEST NIGHT.

THE STAND: AMERICAN NIGHTMARES #1 BEGINS THE SECOND INSTALLMENT IN MARVEL COMICS STEPHEN KING'S STAND EPIC! ALSO AVAILABLE THIS WEEK, THE STAND: CAPTAIN TRIPS HARDCOVER!

Marvel has been doing a fantastic job of adapting and adding onto Stephen King's work with their Dark Tower, and The Stand series. We're pretty amped up about the next installment in King's THE STAND series with this week's THE STAND: AMERICAN NIGHTMARES #1.
The Captain Trips virus has left the country in ruins, and there's a handful of survivors left standing who must pick up the pieces. And, all the while, the extremely evil RANDALL FLAG continues his campaign across the country. If you're a STEPHEN KING fan, then this one's a must, folks! Click here to read more about THE STAND: AMERICAN NIGHTMARES #1!
Also hitting the Third Eye shelves this week is the hardcover collection of THE STAND: CAPTAIN TRIPS. This first installment in the series set up extremely nicely, and delivered a fantastic story with solid artwork. You can get your's this Wednesday at Third Eye, and don't worry, we'll have plenty in stock!

STEVE NILE'S CITY OF DUST CONCLUDES THIS WEDNESDAY IN CITY OF DUST #5!
City Of Dust was 2008's breakout independent hit for us here a Third Eye. Steve Niles (creator of 30 DAYS OF NIGHT) manages to effortlessly blend supernatural horror, and dystopian science fiction to make one of the most entertaining comics we read this year. Beautiful artwork, and great production values from RADICAL PUBLISHING didn't hurt either!
Phillip Khrome is a police detective existing a Blade Runner-esque future where all fiction, imagination and religion has been outlawed. A prime example of this is the ultimate irony of how he got his own father sentenced by re-telling the story of the Tortoise and the Hare in school. As he follows the trails of a series of murders, he comes into supernatural territory, and finds out just how wrong the world is that he lives in. If you're already reading it, then we know you guys are pumped for the conclusion to this fantastic five-issue mini, and if you're not.. then do yourselves a favor, and snag up the first few issues that we have in stock here at Third Eye.

ACTION COMICS #875CONCLUDES GEOFF JOHNS'S EPIC "NEW KRYPTON" STORYLINE THIS WEDNESDAY!

The highlight of the Superman titles in 2008 and 2009 has definitely been the amazing NEW KRYPTON storyline. Geoff Johns turned the world of the Man of Steel on it's head by introducing thousands of Kryptonians into the mix, and in turn, set up the landscape for some exciting new stories to be told.
While we know about as much as you guys know about how the finale to NEW KRYPTON will play out, we can tell from DC's descriptions of things that it's going to play into an interesting little thing that can simply be called A WORLD WITHOUT SUPERMAN. DARK REIGN FORECAST FOR 3/11/09: - PEPPER POTTS... IRON WOMAN?

Dark Reign has brought a lot of exciting and interesting things center stage in the Marvel universe. One of the recent titles that's been given the limelight has been Matt Fraction's EXCELLENT Invincible Iron Man ongoing series. Fraction is quickly rising into being one of the comic industry's premiere talents, and he has given us the BEST (even better than our beloved Warren Ellis's Extremis and David Michelini and Bob Layton's Demon in A Bottle Iron Man tales) Iron Man book we've ever read in this new series. Things really began to heat up in INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #9 as TONY STARK became a wanted fugitive, and the groundwork was laid for the debut of IRON WOMAN in INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #10.
Pepper Potts is now the head of STARK INDUSTRIES, and has been given her very own Iron Woman armor. The current story arc has been outstanding, and while relying less on traditional superheroics, has added a fantastic mix of sci-fi, espionage, and dramatic storytelling to the world of Iron Man. Click here to read a preview of Invincible Iron Man #11, and be sure to pick up INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #9, and INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #10 which we will have plenty more of in stock as of this Wednesday.

WAR OF KINGS WAR REPORT FOR 3/11/09!

Marvel's WAR OF KINGS event exploded last week with WAR OF KINGS #1 which had been brewing for some time in the pages of books like SECRET INVASION INHUMANS, X-MEN KINGBREAKER, NOVA, and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. The WAR OF KINGS is the culmination of all the big cosmic storylines from the last few years by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. In the aftermath of storylines like their (and Keith Giffen's) Annihilation and Annihilation Conquest, along with high profile X-Men classics like Brubaker's RISE & FALL OF THE SHI'AR EMPIRE and EMPEROR VULCAN, things have begun to erupt. It's the Marvel universe meets Warhammer40K meets Battlestar Galactica. Sound awesome? It is. Just picture intergalactic Marvel characters, kings of space in their own right, coming head to head for control or defense of the galaxy, and you know what awaits. We still have plenty of WAR OF KINGS #1 and the SECRET INVASION: WAR OF KINGS one-shot (which is a nice prelude) in stock, so do not miss it on your next trip through.
What's in store this week for the WAR OF KINGS? In the pages of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #11, we see the questionable return of the once thought dead CAPTAIN MARVEL. Who is this Captain Marvel, and why is he not dead.. or a skrull? And what kind of life-threatening shenanigans are Drax the Destroyer and Moondragon involved in? Find out this week inGUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #11!

DARK TOWER ARTIST JAE LEE'S DEAD IRONS #2KICKS THINGS INTO WEIRDER TERRITORIES WITH THIS WEEK'S NEW ISSUE!

Dead Irons is showing a lot of promise as a new title that gives us our supernatural adventure fix. We love the premise of this weird west thriller. Werewolves, the undead, and more mixed with the raw violence of a Sam Peckinpah western makes this one a must-read. Click here to check out a preview of DEAD IRONS #2!

WALKING DEAD #59LURCHES INTO THIRD EYE THIS WEDNESDAY!

Always a cause for celebration is when the newest issue of Walking Dead hits. And, we know, a lot of you guys are following it in the trades, so we won't elaborate on what's currently happening in the series. We know that Walking Dead is the most spoiler-heavy book to exist currently, and we don't want to take the fun out of it for anyone. All we can say is... if you thought last issue was intense, wait'll you see where things take the cast in this week's issue. Click here for a preview (SPOILER WARNING for those who haven't been following the singles)
If you aren't familiar with Walking Dead, it's been consistently one of our favorite series for over 4 years since it's debut. It's so much more than just a zombie book, but an exploration of how horrible human beings can get in the face of a post-apocalyptic landscape. This is one of those series that twenty years from now, you'll be speaking about in the kind of reverence that's bestowed upon stories like WATCHMEN, PREACHER, and Y THE LAST MAN. Do yourselves a favor, and pick up the first trade paperback for only $9.99, and find out why we're so crazy over this book.
And for those of you who do read it in the trade, and can't handle the wait anymore. We have all of the issues in stock that you need to jump aboard the monthly installmens. Just pick up at Walking Dead 55 and go up from there.

TRADE PAPERBACK & HARDCOVER SPOTLIGHT FOR WEDNESDAY 3/11/09!

We've got some great collected editions coming in stock this week for you. Check out a look at some of the collected editions we're stoked to see released this week.
DEADPOOL v.1 PREMIERE HC - Collecting the first five issues of Daniel Way and Paco Medina's amazing new Deadpool ongoing series. Deadpool's an insanely popular character, and we're huge fans of him here at Third Eye. As big Deadpool fans, we can definitely give this new ongoing series our Third Eye seal of approval. It's funny, clever, and witty. It's got all that fourth wall breaking goodness you've come to love in the character, and it doesn't shy away from the violence either. For those of you who've been missing out on the monthly, you can scoop up the first five issues in this nice hardcover collection.

Alan Moore's Light of Thy Countenance - This graphic novella is an adaption of Moore's mystical and magical take on television. Adapted by Anthony Johnston, his beautifully painted 48 page graphic novella explores a mystical look at the power of television by Alan Moore.

ANNA MERCURY TP v.1: THE CUTTER - Collecting Warren Ellis's awesome Anna Mercury mini-series, this one is another great Avatar read from Ellis. Anna Mercury, dubbed "weird pulp action" by Warren Ellis (writer of modern classics like PLANETARY, TRANSMETROPOLIAN, and more) explores a lone agent travelling between worlds to fight the fascist government of New Ataraxia. Described as a steampunk Lara Croft, Anna Mercury explores worlds that are like a mix of EC Science Fiction comics and 1984. Great artwork, and of course, it's Ellis, so you know the story is solid.

COMPLETE JUST A PILGRIM - Garth Ennis, writer of THE BOYS & PREACHER, gave us this awesome post-apocalyptic western horror tale a few years back and it's long been out of print. This hardcover collects both the original mini-series, and the follow up GARDEN OF EDEN in one volume. The intriguing thing about JUST A PILGRIM is it features the ultimate Anti-Hero in the "Pilgrim" character. At the beginning, he borders on having many redeeming and heroic qualities, but by the end of the series.. well, you'll see. This bloody, and brutal sci-fi splatterwestern sees our gunslinging pilgrim mowing his way through mutants, and showing no remorse. A must for all Ennis fans!

THE LOSERS BY JACK KIRBY - This beautiful hardcover collects legendary Jack Kirby's classic war stories that drew upon his own experience in World War II. One of the standout stories is one where the Losers use a tactic found in a comic book to stop a war attack. A must for all Kirby fans.

No Hero Issue #4
By: Glenn Griffin
After a long wait, No Hero issue 4 is out. The wait was undoubtedly due to the very intricate art work. Just as in the other three issues, the art work is deeply involved and detailed.
The storyline picks up right where it left off with the almost complete transformation of josh. There are certain developments with the knowledge of who orchestrated the attacks on the three former members and gives you a little more insight into Carrick Masterson and his intentions.
Masterson wants to get Josh out in front of the public and on to the frontlines. In order to get Josh ready Masterson enlists an older member, "Redglare", to guide him through and help him handle the turn better.
Overall, the fourth issue is very well written and put together. The dialogue keeps you interested and the art is as always s very eye catching. One of the biggest problem's, is that once you've finished reading you quickliy realize how long you're gonna have to wait for issue 5.

3.8 out of 5.0
