THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE!

....
WOLVERINE #71 OLD MAN LOGAN CHAPTER 6 HITS THE RACKS! WE'RE PUMPED FOR THIS!

That's right, folks! It's that time again... OLD MAN LOGAN is arriving to Third Eye this Wednesday, and we know you guys are going to be flocking in to find out just what the big shock is in Chapter 6. MARK MILLAR & STEVE MCNIVEN (the team behind CIVIL WAR, not to mention MILLAR has written tons of amazing work like ULTIMATES, KICK-ASS, and WANTED) have been delivering the goods BIG TIME on this series, and we're pumped to see where they take us next. In this CBR interview,Millar states that issue 71 is the big shocker after issue 70's big reveal. Well, we thought last issue was a big enough shocker as is, so who knows what Millar's crazy self has planned for this week's new installment!
All we know, and please take note, SPOILERS, is at the end of Wolverine 70.... there was a T-Rex wearing the Venom symbiote chasing Logan and Hawkeye.. say that out loud, real quick.. a T-REX. WEARING. THE. VENOM. SYMBIOTE. Yeah, we know! Madness! This is why we love OLD MAN LOGAN!
For those of you who may have missed out on this one from the beginning, fear not, we have been doing our best to keep all the chapters in stock here at Third Eye, so you can still catch up. What's the story on OLD MAN LOGAN? Picture this.. it's 50-some years in the future, the Marvel universe is a post-apocalyptic wasteland, motorcycle gangs painted with skullfaces calling themselves Ghost Riders terrorize the deserts, the Hulk and She-Hulk's grandchildren control the West Coast like a crime family, and nearly ALL the Marvel superheroes are DEAD. Wolverine has vowed himself to a life of peace, and as he and Hawkeye travel across the country in the Spider-Buggy.. he finds it harder to keep that vow. The book is awesome, check it out!

DARK AVENGERS #3 BRINGS ON THE BAD GUYS THIS WEEK!

How awesome has Dark Avengers been? Bendis and Deodato have been knocking it out of the park with every issue. Good story, good artwork... this book has been amazing. As the flagship Dark Reign title, Dark Avengers has got us hooked hard and only afer two issues. The idea of Norman Osborn taking on the identity of the Iron Patriot (a mash-up of the Iron Man and Captain America identities) and leading the new incarnation of an Avengers team composed primarily of supervillains and in-betweeners is just plain awesome. Not to mention the fact that the first story arc features one of Marvel's coolest villains, Dr. Doom! For those of you not already reading DARK AVENGERS, we've still got plenty of #1 and #2 in stock here at Third Eye, so it's not too late to jump on.
As for what's going on in this week's issue, it looks like more Morgana Le Fay craziness comes out full force. After what happened between her and the Sentry in last month's issue, you know there's some bloodshed waiting to happen. Not to mention, we start to learn some of the dirt on the shady pasts of the Dark Avengers.

ULTIMATUM #3 ARRIVES AFTER A LONG DELAY! THE DEATH TOLL RISES!

Okay, we know the wait on this one has been ridiculously long, and we all know why: David Finch's artwork is AWESOME, but man, does it take some time! Ultimatum has been building a lot of steam here at Third Eye, and we've all been completely stoked on seeing where Loeb and Finch are going to take us next. This event is the death (and of course, the lead in to the rebirth)of the Ultimate Universe. So far, we're seeing characters getting wiped out right and left, and we've only gotten through two issues! The rumors are flying as to what's going to happen with Ultimate Spidey, the X-Men, and more... and it's all unfolding here in the pages of ULTIMATUM.
This one has been nothing but pure old school comic book fun, and brings us back fond memories of classic 1990s X-Men stories (the good ones, of course!) So, don't miss out on this week's next installment of Ultimatum. Click here to check out a preview ofULTIMATUM #3!

BATTLE FOR THE COWL BRINGS THE RETURN OF AZRAEL IN AZRAEL DEATH'S DARK KNIGHT #1!

We have to admit, we were extremely happy with the first issue of Battle for the Cowl last week. While it's a departure from the cerebral headtrip Grant Morrison took us on in RIP, it was classic Batman storytelling that spanned all of Gotham City. The quest for the new Batman has got us super stoked to see what's in store next, and the whole thing has us reminiscent of some of those great '90s Batman stories we grew up on where characters like Nightwing, Huntress, and Batman's awesome Rogue's Gallery all played a central role in the books.
The first issue of Battle for the Cowl gave us a Dick Grayson who's under pressure to take up the mantle of the Bat, but feels there should not be another Batman to take Bruce's place. The introduction of a gun-toting Batman (Jason Todd?), and the usage of characters from Morrison's League of Batmen storyline has us very excited.
But, what's got us really pumped is all the great characters we're seeing return to the pages of the Batman titles. And one of those that we completely fell in love with when we were younger was Azrael who first appeared during Knightfall.
This week, Azrael returns in the pages of the Azrael Death's Dark Knight, and the quesion is... is this the Azrael we all know and remember, or is this an all-new Azrael? The description of this miniseries leaves room for many a theory on just what is in store for this Avenging Angel. And how do Robin, Nightwing, and those more in line with Batman's philosophy of not killing feel about the brutal and ruthless tactics that Azrael takes to punish the guilty? WARREN ELLIS & STEVE PUGH'S HOTWIRE CONTINUES THIS WEEK!

One of our favorite new publishers, Radical Comics, followed up their hit new series City Of Dust with this awesome little cyberpunk Ghostbusters series from the twisted mind of Warren Ellis and the beautiful pens of Steve Pugh!
This week, Hotwire #2 continues Radical's reputation of quality work that showcases different and interesting ideas combined with the production qualities of a large publisher. The story on Hotwire, is all about Alice Hotwire, Detective Exorcist. The dead have stopped passing onto the afterlife, and someone needs to keep the peace with all these crazy (and sometimes angry)spirits floating around. That's where Alice Hotwire comes in. Despised by her fellow officers, she's the only thing that can prevent her district from being overrun by brutal hauntings.
The artwork is AMAZING, and it's an Ellis story, so you know the plot's on point. If you haven't already checked out Hotwire, we'll have more of #1 in stock this week, so give it a look!
Unfortunately, we could not locate a preview of Hotwire #2, buthere's a look at Hotwire #1 to familiarize yourself with the story a bit!

DEADPOOL: GAMES OF DEATH GIVES YOU A SECOND SERVING OF YOUR MONTHLY DEADPOOL FIX!

We know you guys can't get enough of Deadpool, and this week, Marvel's giving you a second helping of Wade Wilson goodness. This special one-shot features everyone's favorite Merc With A Mouth appearing on a controversial reality T.V show that's banned worldwide. Part snuff-film, part Surreal Life, Deadpool brings his twisted sense of fourth-wall breaking humor into this gritty landscape.
Basically, it's more of everything you love about Deadpool... violence, funny stuff, and some out there story and art! Clickhere to read more abou DEADPOOL: GAMES OF DEATH!

TRY VERTIGO'S AIR TPB(collecting the first storyarc) THIS WEEK AND GET #7 FREE!

This is a newer Vertigo series that we feel is being criminally overlooked. Air, from the same creative team that did Cairo, is a very William Burroughs-esque psychadelic look at love, air travel, and science fiction in the 21st century. Former acrobat, Blythe, is an airline stewardess who becomes intertwined with a mysterious male traveller. A group of vigilantes "dedicated to keeping the skies safe" are pulling her in one direction, while her love for Zayn is pulling her in another. The characterization is pretty sharp, and the book has a very surreal charm to it. The main character is a strong female lead in the Vertigo tradition, a little kooky but not overly angsty.
To be completely honest, I wasn't totally sold on these series until around issue 4 when the creative team pulls a pretty good reveal that looks like it's going to push the story in some very interesting places. This one may be a little less crazy violent than the traditional Vertigo series I usually love, but I'd recommend it to anyone who's enjoyed stuff like the Dreaming, American Virgin, or Fables. It's good stuff!
AND! As an added incentive to get people to give the first one a shot, we're giving out issue #7 (also new this week) with any purchase of the trade paperback. #7 is the perfect jumping on point from the trade (which collects 1-5, however 6 is not as good of a jumping on spot as 7 is), and we're excited to hook it up for you guys. Give this great series a try! Read more aboutAir Letters from Lost Countries volume 1 by clicking here.

DARK REIGN FORECAST 3/18/09: PUNISHER #3!WOLVERINE ORIGINS #34!DARK AVENGERS #3!

So, we already touched on the awesomeness that is DARK AVENGERS and how it's shipping this week. Now, lets talk about two other great titles hitting the Third Eye new comics rack this week.
First off, we have one of our personal new favorites in the Dark Reign spin-offs, the new ongoing Punisher series from Rick Remender (FEAR AGENT, END LEAGUE) and Jerome Opena (FEAR AGENT). This series is off to a fantastic start, and we feel that it's the freshest take on the Punisher since Garth Ennis's epic and defining PUNISHER MAX. Rick Remender has done the impossible by integrating the Punisher into the Marvel Universe, and making it work. Before this, it was always hard to see the character working in the confines in the 616 Marvel Universe outside of a guest appearance here and there. However, Remender has balanced enough grit with enough over the top Marvel magic to make this book work. Frank Castle is waging a one-man war on a Marvel universe now entirely in the hands of supervillains (Norman Osborn and his crew). Where most of the heroes hands are tied, the Punisher follows no rules, and doesn't care if his mission to exterminate the underworld makes him a villain in the eyes of the public.
The first issue kicked off with a bang, featuring the Punisher making an assassination attempt on Osborn (with a Skrull sniper rifle!), and getting foiled by the Sentry. By the time we got to the end of two, we find out Osborn has employed The Hood (one of our favorite new characters to come about in this decade) to handle the Punisher. And this takes us to this week's newest issue! And don't worry, if you missed the first two, we've got plenty of #1 and #2 in stock here at Third Eye! Click here to read a preview of PUNISHER #3!
Also, this week we see the second installment of the intriguing new WEAPON XI storyline in WOLVERINE ORIGINS #34!The shadowy son of Wolverine, Daken, has been ontop of everyone's minds since being cast into the limelight by being placed on the DARK AVENGERS. Nick Fury has approached Logan with a deal, tell him everything he knows about his son, and he will tell Logan everything he knows about the mysterious Romulus character and the history of Weapon X. This exciting new story arc has a lot of people picking up Wolverine Origins again, and we have to say, it's the best the book has been since the Deadpool tie-in last year. X-FORCE #13 "PRELUDE TO MESSIAH WAR!"

Leading directly into X-FORCE/CABLE MESSIAH WAR #1, X-FORCE #13 looks to be an important key issue in regards to the bigges X-Men crossover since 2007's MESSIAH COMPLEX. Messiah Complex was one of the biggest (and one of the best) X-Men storylines of recent memory, and we feel that the follow-up in the upcoming MESSIAH WAR is going to be awesome. The build-up begins in this week's X-FORCE #13, with a special PRELUDE TO MESSIAH WAR. Mutants are being turned into weapons left and right, and X-Force has no idea who'll be next. This one may get lost in the shuffle this week, so we figured we'd give all you folks following the Messiah War a heads up. Click here to read a preview of X-FORCE #13!

GROOM LAKE #1 GIVES US BEN TEMPLESMITH'S TAKE ON ALIENS!
We love Ben Templesmith art. We love aliens. Put the two together, and you've got a winning combo. Groom Lake looks AWESOME. Ben Templesmith (the artist of titles like 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, FELL, WELCOME TO HOXFORD) gives us his twisted take on Groom Lake, a REAL place connected to Area 51. The question is how real is what's located beneath Groom Lake? This one's a fun, somewhat satirical take on UFOs, government conspiracies and more... and best of all, it's chockfull of Templesmith's surreal artwork. Creepy, interesting, it looks like a must-read for all of our diehard Templesmith fans, and anyone who just gets down with UFOs.

STAR TREK COUNTDOWN #3 CONTINUES THE LEAD IN TO THE NEW FILM!
It's been a while since a Star Trek title has been moving as quickly as this, and we're pretty stoked about where it's leading to in regards to the new film. IDW has been putting out this four issue limited series that is counting down to the all new JJ ABRAMS Trek film. Tying together elements of The Original Series, and The Next Generation, Star Trek Countdown has gotten the most hardcore and the most casual of Trek fans paying attention. This week, we'll be getting in the third installment of this hot new series!

GI JOE COBRA #1 BEGINS THIS WEEK!

The GI JOE stuff from IDW has been keeping fans excited and enthused for the last couple months, and we've been pretty pleased with the way they've been handling the GI Joe comics. This week, one of the new IDW Joe books we're pumped about is GI JOE COBRA #1. Everyone's favorite undercover Joe, Chuckles, is going deep cover with Cobra... but how far will they bring him down with them? A must for all you Joe fanatics out there!
