Marvel debuts indie-influenced STRANGE TALES #1 this Wednesday featuring twisted, humorous & surreal takes on Marvel characters!
This is one that I am so friggin' excited for it's not even funny. I'm a comics lover, plain and simple, I like good comics. I don't care if they're the published in someone's basement, or if they're owned by the corporate overlords of Disney, as long as the content is good, then I'm happy. And, when you take some of the raw, and incredible talent of indie comic legends like Peter Bagge (Hate), Dash Shaw (Bottomless Belly Button), and Stan Sakai (Usagi Yojimbo), plus many others, then mix those guys with some of the most classic modern myth pop culture characters of this century (Spidey, the Hulk, Iron Man, and more)... well, you're onto something awesome. This is a fact. And while we know this one may not be for everyone, we do think that a lot of you guys are going to be digging this one as much as we are.
I mean, who doesn't like to have a little fun every now and again? It's going to be a zany, humorous, and sometimes adult take on all the characters that we've all grown up loving. The one thing we do want to remind everyone about is that this is a MAX title, so that means the chances of this baby seeing a second print are very low. So, if you're interested in it, then please be sure to snap one up while it's in stock. Of course, we made sure to have plenty of these babies coming in, but just in case, you don't wanna be left wanting for awesomeness. :)
As for the first issue itself, well, they're starting the series of with a real bang... Being an anthology series, you get a big cast of different creators with each issue. And, in the first issue, you get Dash Shaw doing Dr. Strange vs. Nightmare, Johnny Ryan doing a Punisher story, manga artist Junko Mizuno doing Spidey, Peter Bagge doing the Incorrigible Hulk, and a lot more. All in all, a very appealing package of fun, and wacky out of continuity Marvel yarns. We highly recommend giving it a look this Wednesday!

CHEW #4 ARRIVES, AND YES, WE HAVE A TON OF CHEW #2s BACK IN STOCK! PLUS, PLENTY OF #1 BACK IN STOCK FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO MISSED IT!
The off-the-beaten-path buzz book of this summer has definitely been Image Comics's new series, CHEW, which has one of the most compelling and quirky stories we've seen in a very long time. And, while Image totally screwed the pooch on issue #2 (allocating it so a lot of us got zero copies, but plenty of #1s and #3s), we still are stoked on this great new series. For those of you who are in need of a Chew #2, we have PLENTY back in stock this week, so we got you covered. And, for those of you who haven't yet jumped aboard Chew, fear not, as we've got plenty of #1 back in stock as well.
Not familiar with CHEW yet? It's a story set in the near-future where poultry is illegal due to outbreaks in Bird Flu. So, picture the Prohibition era, but instead of a speak-easy serving booze, you get a speak-easy serving roast turkey and chicken noodle soup. The star of Chew, is Detective Chu, who happens to be Cibopathic, which means he receives psychic impressions from whatever he eats. And, as a detective, he happens to find his skill comes in handy when a murder needs solving... so, what's he do? He nibbles on the corpse.
Sound awesome? It is, and we highly recommend giving it a go. These are the final printings being done for the series, so if you haven't jumped on yet, and want to check it out, now is your chance.
For those of you who're already on board, the fourth issue will be arriving this Wednesday. Clickhereto check out a preview of CHEW #4!
ULTIMATE COMICS SPIDER-MAN #2FOLLOWS UP ON THE VERY WELL-DONE FIRST ISSUE OF THE NEW ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN SERIES!
Last month, Marvel relaunched their Ultimate line of titles with Mark Millar's Ultimate Avengers, and Brian Michael Bendis's Ultimate Spider-man. While we anticipated Ultimate Avengers being a kick-ass read, we were at first, a little unsure of which direction the relaunch of Ultimate Spidey would go. The series itself began to grow a little stale towards the end of it's last run, so we were hopeful that the series would get a nice refocused direction with the relaunch. Well, it looks like our hopes were absolutely right. The first issue of Ultimate Comics Spider-man was a great fresh start for the title. The story seemed to be a return to it's roots as a streamlined, relevant, and fresh approach to the world of Spider-man. The new series artist, LaFuente, delivers the perfect, vibrant artwork to match up to Bendis's rock solid storytelling. The big thing that impressed us was Bendis looks to have gotten back to what made Ultimate Spider-man, and that's the fresh, straight-forward storytelling that locks in with the current events of the real world. All in all, Ultimate Comics Spidey is a hit, and we highly recommend giving #1 a shot. We still have issues in stock, so it's not too late to give it a shot. Plus, the big reveal of Ultimate Mysterio at the end? AWESOME.

INCOGNITO CONCLUDES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH ISSUE 6 OF ED BRUBAKER'S STUNNING SUPERPOWERED NOIR STORY!
We're big fans of both Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips's work on their crime noir masterpiece, CRIMINAL. And when they had announced last year they would be putting Criminal on hiatus, we were bummed. But, then we saw why.... to do a series very similar to Criminal, but featuring the world of supervillains. Crime noir meets gamma radiation, and the like, you know? Well, we were hooked on issue #1... Brubaker's self-proclaimed Apocalyptic Pulp Noir was the right recipe for a good story, and we loved it. The story of a supervillain in Witness Protection, getting sucked back into his old life of broads, bullets, and super-powered explosions... it's solid stuff.
This week, the conclusion of INCOGNITO arrives, and we can't wait to see how this one ends out. If you haven't already picked up on Incognito, we do still have limited quantities left of all the issues, so it's not too hard to catch this story while you still can!

SOLOMON GRUNDY #7 - A SPECIAL BLACKEST NIGHT TIE-IN ISSUE!
The Blackest Night has been, in our opinion, the best summer comic event we've seen, period. Now, while we know it's only two issues and two months deep, we strongly feel that this event has lived up to every ounce of hype that's been bestowed upon it. And, that's a lot of hype, folks. But, it looks like Geoff Johns has done a great job of overseeing this project, and it's true, we can say that he has been building the event for at least two three or years. This is why it feels so organic, and why everything has been such a solid read. It's not a forced event, but something that's been able to grow out of the stellar run Johns has had on the Green Lantern titles.
This Wednesday, a rather odd tie-in title arrives featuring the Blackest Night banner, and that's SOLOMON GRUNDY #7. This is the final issue of the 7 issue mini-series which had brought Grundy back to the front lines of the DCU. The whole concept of Solomon Grundy as some kind of weird zombie definitely makes for very interesting times, as the cover teases Grundy becoming a Black Lantern. Guess we'll find out this Wednesday just what this enigmatic tie-in has in store for us. Click hereto read more about SOLOMON GRUNDY #7!
NEW VERTIGO SERIES POST-APOCALYPTIC "SWEET TOOTH" DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY, AND THE FIRST ISSUE IS ONLY $1.00!
Vertigo has been really doing a great job of starting off new readers on their series with their $1.00 price point on the issue #1s, and this week, they're kicking off another brand new Vertigo book with the first issue of Jeff Lemire's (Essex County) Sweet Tooth series. What's the story of Sweet Tooth? Well, it features a boy named Gus who has a pair of deer-like antlers that's been raised in complete and total isolation. And now, he's out on his own, in a post-apocalyptic America that was ravaged years earlier by a pandemic. Gus is the first of a new breed of human/animal hybrid children who all happen to be immune to the infection that killed most of the country. The story follows Gus, and a mysterious drifter by the name of Jeppard as he promises to lead Gus to "The Preserve", a safe-haven for hybrid children.
This one sounds completely surreal, but at the same time, like a very cool post-apocalyptic fantasy yarn. Jeff Lemire has impressed us before with his indie hit the ESSEX COUNTY TRILOGY and the graphic novel, the NOBODY, so we're eager to see what he's got planned in this new Vertigo series.
And, hey for a buck, you can try it out for cheap! Click here to read a preview of SWEET TOOTH #1!
JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRY FOR JUSTICE #3 CONTINUES ONE OF THE BEST NEW JUSTICE LEAGUE LIMITED SERIES WE'VE SEEN IN A WHILE!
James Robinson's Cry For Justice limited series is the perfect build-up to the new direction of the League that's going to be happening in the wake of Blackest Night. The artwork is some of the most stunning we've seen, and if you're a fan of painted art, then you absolutely have to page through this one, because it's got some incredible work done in it. And, the storytelling is just as good. Robinson has managed to put together a Justice League composed of old-time standards like Hal Jordan, Black Canary, and Green Arrow, and mix them in with lesser-known characters like.. Congorilla!? Trust us, it works, folks. It's good stuff!
The story is basically about how Hal Jordan wants to take a more proactive approach to stopping the bad guys. A more no holds barred approach. Jordan puts together a team of like-minded individuals to take on the bad guys head-first. What makes it good? Every panel, every piece of dialogue, everything is razor-sharp and dead on. The Justice League is cool AGAIN. We really can't think of a more refreshing approach taken to the team since Meltzer began his run a few years back.
Folks, if you're a DC fan, and you're not already reading CRY FOR JUSTICE, give it a shot. We've got #1 and #2 both in stock, so it's easy to catch up, and things are looking to really heat up in this month's third issue.

DEADPOOL #15 *WANT YOU TO WANT ME PART 1* OUT THIS WEDNESDAY!
Well, that was quick.. it feels like we just had an issue of Deadpool last week! Anyhow, it looks like Deadpool's not really down with being a pirate anymore, so he's a little down on his luck at the moment. He's even beginning to think that the life of a killer for hire isn't what it's cracked up to be. Of course, we know that won't last for long. More wacky, over-the-top carnage and one-liners this Wednesday from everyone's favorite Merc With A Mouth!

DMZ VOLUME 7 TRADE PAPERBACK "WAR POWERS" OUT THIS WEDNESDAY!
Brian Wood has been doing some amazing and incredible things on his Vertigo series DMZ for many years now. It's slowly climbed up to being one of our favorite Vertigo titles, and it's always a cause for attention when a new volume of his series gets put out in trade paperback. This week, volume 7 collects issues #35-#41, and focuses on the whole Delgado as governor of New York storyline that's been set up. Always a rock solid read, if you haven't already given DMZ a shot, ask us about it sometime, we think it's a very well-written, and well-put together story. Think of it as a politically charged Escape from New York, with a little bit of journalism craziness thrown in.
BATMAN #690 *BATMAN:REBORN* - BATMAN VS. THE LEGIONS OF ARKHAM ASYLUM? BATMAN: REBORN CONTINUES TO RULE!
You're probably sick of hearing us talk about how much we're digging the current direction of the Bat-books, but we can't help it. Replacing Bruce Wayne with Dick Grayson was one of the best things DC Comics could have done. The entire world of Gotham City, and it's characters, feels fresh, exciting, and dangerous again. And, the dynamic of having Grayson underneath the cowl, struggling to fill the void that Bruce has left, is a very compelling read. The core BATMAN book, "Batman", has been focusing on the solo adventures of Grayson as Batman, and the stellar creative team of Winick and Bagely, have made it a consistently great read. The trials and tribulations of Grayson continue in this week's issue, as it looks like the Penguin is putting some of Arkham's most dangerous madmen in his path, to keep him busy.
If you're curious about hopping aboard the current arc of Batman, just pick up with BATMAN #687, which provides the perfect jumping on point to Batman: Reborn, and serves as a great entry point to what's going on. Click here to read more about this week's BATMAN #690!
FALL OUT TOY WORKS #1 DEBUTS NEW IMAGE TITLE FROM FALLOUT BOY BASSIST/VOCALIST PETE WENTZ! COULD THIS BE THE NEXT UMBRELLA ACADEMY?
Now, to a degree, I am still very skeptical of when a celebrity comes in and decides to break out with a comic book career. In the past, it never really seemed to turn out too well. And, half the time, the celebrities in question had nothing to do with the comic, except for their name being plastered on the cover. I've seen a lot of really cruddy comics come out featuring headlines like "so and so presents" or "so and so's...", so you can say I'm kind of skeptical about these things. However, that began to change with stuff like Kevin Smith's comic work, and then, the biggest surprise, Gerard Way's Umbrella Academy.
Smith had an easier time impressing me, because as a young comic book hoodlum growing up in the '90s, I had already seen and loved his flicks. He already had cred with me. So, it was easy for me to be like oh, SWEET, Kevin Smith's writing Daredevil? Hell yeah! But, Gerard Way, he had a harder time impressing me. I've never really been a fan of his band, My Chemical Romance (not to say there's anything wrong with being a fan of those guys, it's just not my thing), and when his comic came out, I was very skeptical. But, I gave it a shot, and I was really impressed. Hell, I'd rather see Way doing more comics than continuing his music career, but I'm sure the sold out arenas are more profitable for him in the grand scheme of things.
Now, a very similar situation has come up with the brand new Fall Out Toy Works series coming from Image. Again, Fallout Boy, not a band I'm wild about (and before you're like JEEZ, Steve, all you like is that loud death metal, and hip hop, hold up, I like lots of lighter stuff... They Might Be Giants, Green Day, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, X-Ray Specs, ect ect. :) ), but... the comic looks pretty darn cool. And the fact that it's being produced by the same art studio that brought us stuff like Radical's HERCULES, CITY OF DUST, and more, I think that's something to be pretty hopeful about. But, lets get down to the meat and potatoes of it,t he reality of what's important:
The story. A young robot-maker puts everything he's earned on the line for a recently produced android by the name of Tiffany. His obsession with fixing her becomes the road to his self-destruction, and well, it just looks like a pretty cool read. Kind of a modern day Pinocchio story. Guess we'll find out how this one is on Wednesday!

The story of the Plutonian and his descent into madness and evil has gotten us all hooked here at Third Eye. A lot of you got your first exposure to this story in the pages of the Irredeemable trade paperback (which is still available for only $9.99), and we know now that everyone is absolutely hooked, you guys are waiting to see what happens next. The story of Irredeemable is basically Superman gone Evil, as the Plutonian does everything from nuking his old team-mates and their families, lobotimizing his teenage sidekick, and sinking Singapore.
