THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE FOR WEDNESDAY 3/17/10

SIEGE #3 THIS WEEK! THIRD EYE IS UNDER SIEGE THIS WEDNESDAY, AND WE'RE NOT TALKING ABOUT THE STEVEN SEAGAL MOVIE! SIEGE #3, DARK AVENGERS #15, AND SIEGE EMBEDDED #3!

This Wednesday, the most anticipated "next issue" in a storyline hits the racks of Third Eye, and we couldn't be more stoked. SIEGE has definitely been the book that's crept up, and surprised us all here at Third Eye. We expected big things from it, but Marvel has delivered on every ounce of hype they've preached in regards to this event. It's fast, it's furious, and it feels like it's not just resolving things from years past, but also laying the groundwork for a new Marvel Universe. And, while it's only two issues and a handful of tie-ins deep, we feel like so much ground has been covered in that short amount of time. I mean, SIEGE #2 alone, was packed with "holy crap" moments from start to finish.

The way that SIEGE and it's tie-in books has been reading definitely reminds us of the same feel we get when reading Fraction's INVINCIBLE IRON MAN, or JMS's THOR, bigger than life, modern stories about fantastic people with fantastic powers. In other words, we can see the direction Marvel is going with their HEROIC AGE, and we like it. It seems like the tone, and feel of their books will be reminiscent to what we're seeing in books like SIEGE, and Fraction's IRON MAN run. Cutting-edge storytelling, mixed with the swashbuckling fundamentals of the most timeless comic book heroes. The perfect fusion.

Now, what can we expect this Wednesday from SIEGE? While I don't want to drop any spoilers, here's what I'm expecting to see. I think it's obvious after that last page of SIEGE #2, we're going to see the first OFFICIAL Avengers reunion in quite some time... and folks, it's going to be refreshing to see good guys slugging it out with the bad guys. And, lets just say, this is the most action-packed issue of SIEGE yet, and that's saying something after the larger than life feel of issue #1, and issue #2.

Now, for those of you who aren't yet reading SIEGE, we highly recommend checking it out. Not only is this the best series Marvel has done in quite some time, but it's also one of the perfect entry points to the Marvel Universe if you haven't followed any of their titles in a while.

What is SIEGE? Siege is the storyline that serves as the endpoint of the last decade's worth of Marvel events, and the starting point for Marvel into the next decade. Basically, everything that began with AVENGERS DISASSEMBLED and CIVIL WAR is culminating, and finishing in the pages of SIEGE. This is where we see heroes reuniting to fight alongside each other, and this is where we see the lines being clearly re-drawn between the heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe. Of course, the biggest aspect of SIEGE is the reuniting of Marvel's holy trinity, Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor. It's been ten years since these three have stood together, and this is what SIEGE is really setting up for.

So far, we've seen some huge events, and huge surprises in the pages of SIEGE, and after reading an advance of this week's third issue... let me tell you, folks, the momentum is just building more and more!

As for SIEGE's tie-ins, they've all been pretty solid, surprisingly. The consistency and feeling of weight and importance to each of the tie-in issues has been very good.

Want to Catch Up on Siege? We currently have ALL SIEGE tie-ins in stock here at Third Eye, and can get you caught up in no time flat. Or, if you're just looking to hop on with the main series, we recommend picking up: SIEGE THE CABAL #1 one-shot > SIEGE #1 > SIEGE #2 > SIEGE #3. For those of you who're looking to follow the event and it's ramifications in titles like THOR, and DARK AVENGERS (and we have to admit, these have been GREAT tie-in issues), we've got all of those in as well. Below is a link to the checklist of all the books connected to SIEGE, check it out!

DARK AVENGERS #15 - NORMAN OSBORN'S SECRET WEAPON REVEALED, AND MORE!

One of the books to benefit the most from SIEGE, in terms of getting a fresh breath of life, has been DARK AVENGERS. Beginning with DARK AVENGERS #13 (the first Dark Avengers SIEGE tie-in), this title really regained the steam and excitement it had when it first launched. The origin of the Sentry that was told in DARK AVENGERS #13 and DARK AVENGERS #14 (both still available here at Third Eye) was FANTASTIC, and took a character we've despised for years, and made him into one that we fell in love with as a villain.

This week, Bendis and Deodato continue their SIEGE madness in DARK AVENGERS #15, as we see some very interesting stuff. Marvel provided us with an advance copy of this one, and listen, folks, pick this one up. Remember all those meetings of the Cabal, and the horrifying off-panel creature that everyone was terrified of? Well, you get some very interesting tidbits in this one, I'll say that. We also get to see the relationship, and motives between BULLSEYE and MOONSTONE, aka Dark Hawkeye and Dark Ms. Marvel developed, and progressed some, which is very well done.

Probably, the best Dark Avengers issue of the entire run, check this one out this Wednesday. The development in regards to the rest of SIEGE that goes down in this one is A+.

SIEGE THE EMBEDDED #3 CONTINUES TO GIVE THE HUMAN PERSPECTIVE ON THE WAR IN ASGARD!

Whenever Marvel does an event that's of this scale, they usually provide us with a FRONTLINE series that chronicles the event from a more, human, less super-powered perspective. While these have been hit or miss before (i.e CIVIL WAR FRONTLINE was great, WORLD WAR HULK FRONTLINE? Not so much), the SIEGE: EMBEDDED book has been fantastic, and served very well as a nice FRONTLINE substitute for SIEGE. The concept of Ben Urich, and co. embedding themselves as journalists in Asgard, chronicling the story from the realm of the gods, is pretty damn cool, and a great new take on the standard Frontline concept.

You get a real sense of gravity for how big the Asgardians are, when they're seen through the eyes of an average guy like Ben Urich. It really is like you or I was dropped smack dab in the middle of a City of Gods under attack by mortal man. There's some really cool parts in issue #3, in particular some neat interactions with the Dark Avengers. Overall, SIEGE EMBEDDED is doing a great job of filling in the gaps between issues of SIEGE, and this third issue does just that perfectly.

Word of warning, read SIEGE: EMBEDDED #3 AFTER you read SIEGE #3.

AMERICAN VAMPIRE #1 - STEPHEN KING'S FIRST ACTUAL COMIC BOOK WORK! THIS ONE LOOKS INCREDIBLE, AND IS SURE TO BE A CLASSIC IN THE MAKING! NOT AN ADAPTATION, NOT JUST HIS NAME ON THE COVER, HE'S ACTUALLY WRITING THIS ONE, FOLKS!

If you're going to pick up one new series this week, then we cannot, and I stress, CANNOT, recommend AMERICAN VAMPIRE #1 enough. This one is a big deal for so many reasons, it's not even funny. I mean, even if you forget the pop culture impact that this one has, with it being the first actual comic book writing of STEPHEN KING (we don't count that Creepshow graphic novel from way back when), this one sounds like it's going to be one hell of a good story. And, lets face it, Third Eye Faithful, the story is what matters. We're pretty proud of the fact that all of our top sellers are books that we genuinely enjoy, and feel are of good quality. It means that you got taste! And, AMERICAN VAMPIRE, is definitely going to be a book you want to read. I'll get to the Stephen King stuff in a minute, for now, I want to talk about what this one's about, because it's one hell of a concept!

What is AMERICAN VAMPIRE all about? This new VERTIGO series is about a Wild West outlaw who becomes the first Vampire to exist in America. Skinner Sweet, is what he's called, and even before he was sporting fangs, he was a real screwed up in the head sociopath. This is a return to Vampires as ugly, brutal predators that live to drink the blood of the living. It was only a matter of time before we saw something reactionary to the spat of Vampire movies and TV shows that play into the Twilight-esque furor, and man, I can say it's not a moment too soon. As someone who grew up when Vampires were tamed down in fiction at the height of the whole Anne Rice thing, I can recall being extremely happy with movies like From Dusk Til Dawn and Near Dark giving the vampire back it's bite. And, now it looks like we're going to see the Master of the Macabre doing that with this new Vertigo series. From what we've seen, and what we've read, this one promises to be a true blood-drenched, grindhouse Wild West horror tale, and we couldn't be more stoked. Plus, it's STEPHEN FREAKING KING writing this one, folks!

Okay, so why else is this such a big deal? Well, this series marks the first time ever that Stephen King has actually wrote a comic book. And, while the adaptations of stories like the Dark Tower, the Stand, and most recently, N, have been very well done, we have to say we were always a little bummed that it wasn't actually King writing the comics. Now, with American Vampire, King IS the writer on this, and the concept is completely original. In other words, this is a new Stephen King story that hasn't been told anywhere else before, and us, the comic book fans across the world, are getting it splashed across every panel and every page.

If you pick up one new book this week, folks, make sure you snag AMERICAN VAMPIRE #1. Not only is this one going to be a great read, but we can imagine it's going to be in very high demand due to the fact that King's fanbase quickly seeks out and devours everything he puts out.

BLACKEST NIGHT NEARING IT'S CONCLUSION AS WE GET A VERY SPECIAL, OVERSIZED ISSUE OFGREEN LANTERN CORPS #46 THIS WEDNESDAY! COULD THIS BE THE BLACK LANTERN ANTI-MONITOR'S DEBUT?

You know, if it wasn't for the fact that Brightest Day is right around the corner, I'd be pretty sad to see Blackest Night so close to it's conclusion. This series has kept me enthralled since the Preludes began last year, and each issue, each tie-in, has been a solid A+ read all the way through. One of the most underrated books is by far, the Green Lantern Corps, which is what Peter Tomasi has been doing so good of a job at making cool for the last couple years. We'll admit the series didn't really start to shine until after the Sinestro Corps War, when we got into things like the Mongul Corps, and the Sins of the Star Sapphire, but ever since then, folks, this has been one of our favorites.

Now, what's getting really interesting about the Blackest Night, is what the end result of everything will be? We're starting to see more and more coming to light about Brightest Day, but we still don't know much, and this Wednesday, Green Lantern Corps #46 promises to be one of the most important issues yet in the grand scheme of Blackest Night awesomeness. And, after looking at the variant cover to this week's issue, we think we know why: it looks like the Black Lantern Anti-Monitor is making himself known.

The Anti-Monitor was the bigger-than-the-cosmos villain from Crisis on Infinite Earths, and we last saw him in the thick of the Sinestro Corps War. Take a peek at the cover below, and tell me you're not stoked to read this week's GLC!
Make sure you pick up this special, over-sized issue of GREEN LANTERN CORPS #46 this week to get the full scoop on what happens when the GLC returns to Earth, and heads straight for Nekron!

CHOKER #2 CONTINUES THE HIT NEW IMAGE SERIES FROM BEN TEMPLESMITH! IMAGINE "BLADE RUNNER" meets "SIN CITY", AND YOU'VE GOT CHOKER! HARDBOILED CRIME NOIR WITH A HEALTHY DOSE OF MUTANTS AND ALIENS! MISSED #1? NO WORRIES, WE HAVE PLENTY TO CATCH YOU UP! FANS OF CHEW & HAUNT? TRY THIS BOOK!

Image has got me hooked so hard, it's not even funny. They've really built a reputation for themselves over the last ten years for producing quality, creator-owned books that not only have high quality art and story, but also come out on schedule. And, it's funny, because 15 years ago, it couldn't be more the opposite. Now, it seems like Image has really found it's place in the comics industry as a provider of killer new ideas, and series.

Choker is the brainchild of Ben Templesmith, who is known for his incredible artwork on books like FELL, and 30 DAYS OF NIGHT. The man just has a distinct, and fantastic style that really keeps us coming back for more, and more. And, with CHOKER, he is really showing us just how good he can be. The book itself has the feel of a cyberpunk dystopia, ala Blade Runner, or a really good William Gibson novel, lots of dark city streets lit by neon window displays, and the brake-lights of motorcycle gangs. Of course, in grand dystopian future tradition, the police are mostly corrupt, and this is where we start getting to the good stuff... Private Detective, Johnny Jackson, also known as Choker, a miserable bastard who yearns for his old life as a police officer, far from the miserable day-to-day of paranoid spouses, and torrid affairs. And, in the first issue, Choker gets his chance. He's put on the trail of an escaped drug lord, who sells Vampire DNA as a drug that turns it's users into creatures of the night.

The series is creepy, wild, and filled with everything you'd want from a good sci-fi/horror/noir fusion. Mutants, monsters, and madmen, all told in a very Phillip Marlowe-esque approach. The detective appeal is the big draw, and the world itself is very interesting, and intriguing.

This one's a great read, and if you missed the first one, we recommend picking it up this Wednesday and giving it a try. And, while we know it's not Fell, it's a damn good Fell substitute.

X-23, OUR FAVORITE NEW MUTANT OF THE LAST TEN YEARS, GETS A ONE-SHOT THIS WEDNESDAY, WHERE X-23 REVISITS HER PAST WITH THE CHARACTERS FROM "NYX"

One of our favorite new characters to come out of the 21st Century has definitely been X-23. And, it's funny, because when we first heard the mention of this character and her introduction to the Marvel Universe, many years ago, we were so skeptical, it's not even funny. I mean, a female Wolverine? But, through careful storytelling, and also being cautious to avoid over-exposure, X-23 has become one of the most compelling new characters introduced to the Marvel Universe. She's so much more than just a clone of Wolverine, and her two mini-series, as well as her appearances in Nyx have done very much to flesh this out. We feel that she'll stick around for a long time as an important addition to the X-Titles, and the Marvel Universe as a whole.

And, this Wednesday, we get a one-shot which focuses on the character, her current place and motivations in the Marvel Universe, and even re-connects her with the characters from the Nyx limited series she appeared in way back when. I've gotta tell you folks, I read the advance copy on this one, and it's good, it's real good. Fantastic art, and a nice one-shot story make for some good reading, but throw a just plain cool character like X-23 into the mix, and that's a recipe for comic book awesomeness. Ontop of all that, you're treated to, of course, an appearance by Wolverine, and what's even cooler, Jubilee. And, the dynamic that exists between Jubilee, Wolverine, and X-23 is really well-done in this one.

So, whether you follow X-Force, or you don't, or if you're just a fan of GOOD Marvel titles, pick up this one-shot for a very cool, satisfying story this Wednesday. We think you'll all be pretty pleased with it.

JOE THE BARBARIAN #3 CONTINUES GRANT MORRISON'S (writer of BATMAN & ROBIN) EPIC "LORD OF THE RINGS" & "STAR WARS" meets ALL YOUR CLASSIC '80S ACTION FIGURES! PLENTY OF #1 AND #2 IN STOCK IF YOU HAVEN'T YET STARTED READING IT!

Grant Morrison is knocking it out of the park with his new Vertigo series JOE THE BARBARIAN. The first issue (available at Third Eye for just $1) kicked things off well, but we felt it was a bit heavy on the set-up. However, that's how Morrison works, he establishes the characters, and sets the stage, and then throws you head first into his world of craziness. And, issue #2 proved just that, as that's where things REALLY kicked into high gear. After two issues, I gotta say, I am loving this series. More so, I'm loving where it's taking us as readers. It reminds me of being a kid and watching the Neverending Story, or Goonies. Just bigger-than-life urban fantasy from a very talented writer, and a very talented artist. And, with a big name like Grant Morrison on the book, it's easy for artist Sean Murphy to get overlooked, but folks, don't be fooled, this guy's work is AWESOME. He has the perfect style to make you feel like you're being sucked into another world.

What is JOE THE BARBARIAN? Meet Joe. Joe's a young boy, alienated from his peers, and misunderstood by his mother, his father was lost in Iraq, and all he has in life are his comics, his toys, and his drawings. Joe, in his room, passes out, possibly related to Joe's diabetes (which is what Morrison references at one point), and wakes up ina world surrounded by all of his action figures come to life. From Optimus Prime to Snake-Eyes to Batman to Captain Jean-Luc Picard, they're all there. And, so the adventure begins. In the second issue, Joe's world is torn between the fantasy world he's awaken to, and the real world. He encounters his pet rat (who reminds you of a Ninja Turtles-esque kind of character), and the two embark on their journey into this world. We see flashbacks to the real world, for example, Joe dunks his head in his bathtub, and the fantasy world represents this to him as a creek being filled by a drainpipe.

This book is fantastic, very well put together, terrific artwork, and even the colorist is on point here. It's rare when you see creators mesh so well, but Joe the Barbarian is definitely an example of it. The series has this great epic, "Lord of the Rings" or "Star Wars" feel to it, and hey, most of us grew up in the '80s, so there is an element of nostalgia for all the action figures shown in it.

If you're curious about Joe, pick up JOE THE BARBARIAN #1, for only a buck, and give it a try.

GREEN ARROW #31 *RISE AND FALL OF THE GREEN ARROW* - THE AFTERMATH OF CRY FOR JUSTICE, AND THE DESCENT OF THE GREEN ARROW HAPPENS HERE! A RETURN TO AWESOMENESS FOR THE GREEN ARROW! PUTTING ARROWS IN DUDE'S HEADS? HELL YES.

As a huge, self-admitted Green Arrow fan, I couldn't be more stoked about the character finally getting some proper treatment in the DCU. It's been so long that he's kind of fallen to the wayside as comic relief, and a background character. The fact is, when I was growing up reading comics, it was at the high point of Ollie's career. He'd just come back from the dead, and been given a fresh breath of air in Kevin Smith's now legendary Quiver storyline. Combine that with Brad Meltzer's (Identity Crisis) run on the book, and Green Arrow was a definite monthly must-read back then. And, that wasn't the only time either, there was a great run way back when with Mike Grell, including his fateful Longbow Hunters storyline.

And, now, beginning last week in JUSTICE LEAGUE: RISE AND FALL, the GREEN ARROW has gotten good again. Due to the end results of Cry for Justice, where he SPOILERS put an arrow in Prometheus's head SPOILER, Oliver Queen is now on the run, and hunted by the people he onced called friends. How low will the Emerald Archer sink? What is the huge secret he'll reveal to the world, that will

FALL OF THE HULKS CONCLUDES THIS WEDNESDAY IN HULK #21 AND INCREDIBLE HULK #608 - PREPARE FOR WORLD WAR HULKS!

Okay, how can you NOT love that cover? And, the cover above is a shining example of why we're so damn hooked on the current FALL OF THE HULKS storyline. 'Cause it's larger than life, smashmouth comic book fun! I mean, picture this, a gathering of the Marvel Universe's mad scientists, ranging from Dr. Doom and MODOK to the Mad Thinker and Egghead, all gathered by The Leader, to once and for all eliminate the Hulks from the Marvel Universe.

Now, imagine the biggest, craziest throwdown, smashmouth slugfest you're gonna get. Hulks getting killed, secrets being revealed, and much more. And, that, my friends, is FALL OF THE HULKS. Sometimes, it's just fun to read a simple, straight-forward, and (as usual with the Hulk books) awesomely drawn storyline.

This week in HULK #21, we see the Red Hulk, now allied with Banner and Skaar, taking the fight straight to the Intelligencia. Of course, this issue involves everyone form the Avengers, the FF, and the X-Men, and who can forget Deadpool? And, folks, after seeing how this issue ends, you gotta read it... I don't want to ruin the surprise, because it's a good one, but probably one of the coolest visuals I've seen in a comic in a while. Lets just say the Hulk world just got a little bit more crowded...
As for what's going down in INCREDIBLE HULK #608, it looks like the master plans of MODOK and the Leader are to be revealed, as well as the motivations of Skaar, the Son of Hulk. Ths issue right here concludes FALL OF THE HULKS, and kicks off the upcoming WORLD WAR HULKS storyline!

FADE TO BLACK #1 - A BRAND NEW IMAGE COMICS HORROR MINI-SERIS FEATURING A CULT OF HIPPIE CANNIBALS! WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE? YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH SURVIVAL HORROR!

Here's one that looks pretty cool, and caught my eye while I was doing the Previews order a couple months back. Survival Horror and Comics have been going steady for a while now, with great reads like WALKING DEAD and CROSSED, but, in my opinion, there's always more room for a killer horror book on the shelf. IMAGE delivers FADE TO BLACK this week, the first issue in a mini-series about a group of actors, shooting a film on location. They're young, wealthy, beautiful, and totally spoiled. Everything they know about the wilderness comes from movies, so they're pretty clueless. And, well, that's when they run into the Children of the Radiant Night, a cult of hippie cannibals using the desert for their own reasons.

From what we've read, it sounds like there's some serious swerves in store for us as readers, as what appears to be five young people on a wilderness trek experience turns out to be something very different, as they try to figure out how to survive.

DOOMWAR #2 - THE FATE OF STORM HANGS IN THE BALANCE AS THE X-MEN COME HEAD TO HEAD WITH DR. DOOM! IT'S DR. DOOM VS. THE MARVEL UNIVERSE IN DOOMWAR! MISS DOOMWAR #1? DON'T WORRY, WE HAVE PLENTY IN STOCK TO CATCH YOU UP!

There are some rules in comics, and one of, those rules is ANYTHING with Dr. Doom is going to be good. It's just a fact. You could have a Dr. Doom and Stilt-Man team-up, and it would rule. Why? Because it's got Dr. Doom. And, why is Dr. Doom so cool? Well, he's simply put, the best damn villain in the Marvel Universe. And, we couldn't be happier to see him as the focus of a new Marvel storyline taking place in the pages of Doomwar.

See, a while ago, Doom made some deals with certain corrupt officials from Wakanda, which basically ended up with him taking over the country, and now, fully healed, the Black Panther wants his land back. And, he's brought in the combined resources of the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and even the hired assistance of Deadpool, to take back his country, and to rescue Storm, who has been taken prisoner by Doom.

The first issue was a great setup, and we're really excited to see what comes next. All in all, it's a Dr. Doom story told how a Dr. Doom story should be told: bigger than life, with the ol' Man in the Iron Mask being a brutal, relentless villain, and half the Marvel Universe beating down his front door.

If you missed the first one, don't worry, we've got plenty in stock to catch you up.

VERTIGO CRIME DELIVERS ANOTHER SLAB OF PULPY AWESOMENESS WITH THIS WEDNESDAY'S

BRONX KILL GRAPHIC NOVEL!
So far, all of the Vertigo Crime books have been solid, satisfying reads. While we've really enjoyed more than others (like THE CHILL, which was one of the best things I've read in a while!), they've all been good, entertaining reads, and we've been digging them.

This Wednesday, VERTIGO CRIME delivers it's next slab of raw, hardboiled pulp awesomeness in the form of Peter Milligan's THE BRONX KILL. I was lucky enough to read an advance of BRONX KILL, and I've gotta tell you guys, this is probably one of my favorite ones yet. While it doesn't re-invent the crime noir wheel, it's the familiarity of the story that is one of the most captivating things. The relationship between Martin Keane and his father is one of the most dysfunctional we've seen, and while noir is full of dysfunctional families, it really plays a big role here in the Bronx Kill.

The character of Martin Keane is one who is living in the shadow of his father, his grandfather, and his great-grandfather, a New York cop murdered under mysterious circumstances. His book gets trashed in literary circles, and he's trying to find a way to fix his writing, his family, and himself. And, through it all, he falls into a downward spiral, as most Noir protagonists do. I really can't go into too much detail about the who, or the whats, just that this is a fascinating character study that pulls you into a murder mystery, and takes you through one man's trials, and tribulations with his place in the world, and his connection to other people.

Besides, the surprises, and solving the mysteries are the best part about crime stories, and the surprise twists in this one are too good for me to give up here. Read them yourself, you'll enjoy it much better that way.

NEVERLAND #1 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, THE FOLKS BEHIND "RETURN TO WONDERLAND" BRING US A NEVERLAND WHERE PETER PAN'S THE VILLAIN, AND CAPTAIN HOOK'S THE HERO... FIND OUT HOW KILLER THIS NEW ZENESCOPE BOOK IS FOR YOURSELF!

Zenescope, the folks who've brought us twisted fairy tales with their Grimm Fairy Tales books, and then of course, their well-recognized twisted trip down the rabbit hole with their "Wonderland" Trilogy, have done it again, as they take us all into the hearts of a twisted version of Neverland. As always, the artwork is top notch, as you can expect from Zenescope, but the story in this one reads pretty killer too.

Imagine a Neverland story where Peter Pan, and Tinkerbell are the real villains, and Captain Hook, is the reluctant hero? Well, folks, that's what Zenescope has in store for you here with their Neverland series. The #0 issue (still in stock here at Third Eye) was a very enjoyable read, and we're excited to see what comes next in the pages of Neverland #1 this Wednesday.

"LAST STAND OF NEW KRYPTON / BRAINIAC AND THE LEGION OF SUPERHEROES" CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY IN SUPERGIRL #51 *LAST STAND OF NEW KRYPTON PT 3*

The biggest complaint that I think all of us have had for a while is how Superman hasn't been in any of his books for the last year. And, now, DC is correcting that problem, as they lead up to the big WAR OF THE SUPERMEN storyline this summer, with their current LAST STAND OF NEW KRYPTON crossover.

Continued from last week's LAST STAND OF NEW KRYPTON #1, Brainiac's assault on New Krypton has caused General Zod to brand the Legion of Superheroes as terrorists, and imprison them. So, Connor Kent, aka Superboy, being the friend of the Legion that he is, decides he's off to rescue them. But, WTF, Supergirl? She's standing in his way?

The Super-books are starting to get better, and so far this crossover has been pretty kick-ass. We still have the first two chapters in stock (ADVENTURE COMICS #8, LAST STAND OF NEW KRYPTON #1), so it's still relatively easy to get all caught up.

GREEN HORNET YEAR ONE #1 - "GRENDEL" and "MAGE" CREATOR MATT WAGNER TAKES THE GREEN HORNET BACK TO HIS ROOTS ALA ALL-STAR SUPERMAN IN THIS PULPY MINI-SERIES!

As if Kevin Smith's modern day 21st century take on the Green Hornet wasn't enough, Dynamite has tasked critically acclaimed comics creator, Matt Wagner, with doing an All-Star Superman-esque look at the character's first year on the job. Rooted in the tradition of the great pulps, this is the original tales of Britt Reid and Kato, set against the backdrop of industrial 1930s Chicago.

For a grittier, pulpier Green Hornet, be sure to give GREEN HORNET: YEAR ONE #1 a look this Wednesday!
