THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS FOR WEDNESDAY 2/9/11

THE DEATH OF SPIDER-MAN BEGINS THIS WEDNESDAY IN ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #153 *PRELUDE TO DEATH OF SPIDEY* &ULTIMATE AVENGERS vs. NEW ULTIMATES #1 *DEATH OF SPIDEY PT 1*

Featuring NEMESIS/SUPERIOR/KICK-ASS writer MARK MILLAR and AVENGERS/SIEGE writer BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS

ultimatespiderman153
It's been a while since we've really been stoked about a major storyline that spans the Ultimate Universe, but folks, I'm telling you.. whether you were an Ultimate Spidey fan way back in the day, or you're currently big on the series, you need to check this one out. It's going to be off-the-chain.

Why? Well, first off.. the entire storyline is being penned by two of comics best creators: Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Millar. These guys are the original architects of the ULTIMATE UNIVERSE, and are the reason why it took off in the first place.

Two more reasons? Leinil Yu and Mark Bagely. Yup, we're not only getting the kick-ass art stylings of SUPERIOR artist Leinil Yu, but we're getting the return of the original long-term ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN artist, MARK BAGELY. Again, both pioneers in the realm of Ultimate Titles (Yu with the now classic ULTIMATE HULK vs. WOLVERINE, and BAGELY with his run alongside Bendis on ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN).

And, one more reason? Dead is dead in the Ultimate Universe. That's one of the rules, folks, so when they say they're killing the character.. that is it.. ka-put. So far, the Ultimate books have done a rock solid job of keeping to the rules laid out for this alternate Marvel world, and when a character bites it, they don't come back.

But, more than anything else, this story is about more than just a death. It's about the streamlining of the Ultimate Universe, and making it just as relevant and fresh as it was when it first started. And, this is why we're really excited to see what's in store from Mr. Millar and Mr. Bendis on this one.

Now, for many of you who may not be as familiar with the concept of ULTIMATE MARVEL, let me give you the scoop in a nutshell.

Basically, the Ultimate Universe, launched around the beginning of 2000-2001, was kind of a streamlined, more realistic, more contemporary version of the Marvel Universe. The core of the characters were the same, but writers were able to take more liberties with the characters, make things a bit more edgy, and a bit more modern. So, for example, when Ultimate Spider-man began, it was set in the present day of the time, with Peter Parker as a teenager, who runs afoul of that fateful Spider. From there, everything changes. For example, in the world of all the ULTIMATE titles, everything ties back to the Super-Soldier serum. Green Goblin, the Secret Six, the Avengers, even Spider-man himself, most of these characters have ties to the Super-Soldier serum.
ultavvsnewult1

And, we feel that the upcoming Avengers and Captain America movies will be looking very heavily towards the Ultimate titles and stories for inspiration and ideas. This has already been made obvious by the heavy involvement of SHIELD in the formation of the Avengers (in the Ultimate Universe, the Avengers are more of a military special ops team staffed with super-soldiers, rather than a traditional super-team).

If you've ever been curious about the Ultimate Universe, we feel that this upcoming DEATH OF ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN storyline is a perfect spot to jump in. I know that sounds odd, with it being a death story and all, but, from everything I've read, not only is it going to be an excellent read, but it's going to really set the stage for an Ultimate revival.

As for the details of the arc beyond what we've talked about above? Marvel, Millar, and Bendis are all SUPER cryptic on this one, so pick 'em up this week and see for yourself.

FLASH #9 - THE PRELUDE TO FLASHPOINT BEGINS THIS WEDNESDAY IN THE PAGES OF FLASH #9 - A MUST-READ

flash9

Geoff Johns is cooking up some more awesomeness this year with the upcoming FLASHPOINT event. We're starting to see more, and more come to light on this one, and I have to tell you, folks... it's lookin' mighty good!

Just like he did with Green Lantern, Johns has been working his magic on Barry Allen/The Flash since he kicked things off in a big way with 2009's FLASH REBIRTH limited series where we saw Barry return. And, just like GREEN LANTERN, out of the aftermath of REBIRTH, Johns kicked off a killer ongoing FLASH series, which has not only firmly cemented the character back to being one of the DCU's top players, but has also served as a perfect introduction to the character for anyone who may be new to the DCU or new to the Flash.

And, now, Johns is gearing up for what is sure to be as big as when he launched the SINESTRO CORPS WAR that began everything and anything BLACKEST NIGHT, with the official prelude to FLASHPOINT in this Wednesday's FLASH #9.

Now, in case you're wondering... what's FLASHPOINT? Short answer: There's an event that happens in FLASH #1, where the REVERSE FLASH has meddled with the timestream, and it has now spun the entire DC Universe into an Elseworlds-style environemnt where EVERYTHING has changed. In other words, imagine AGE OF APOCALYPSE meets the DC U, and that kinda gives you a feel for what's going on here. Bruce Wayne runs successful casinos, Superman's shuttle never landed on Earth, Hawkman and Wonder Woman are wed, Aquaman is the Emperor of Europe.... and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

And, everything kicks off officially this Wednesday in FLASH #9. So, make sure you snag yourself a copy, and get geared up for FLASHPOINT. And, in addition to this being a Prelude to FLASHPOINT, it's also the introduction of a brand new speedster fresh out of the speed force and into Central City.

Intrigued by Johns's FLASH run? We've got issues #1-8 in stock to get you caught up, so snag some copies this week, and find out why we've been digging it so much.

Or just jump on with FLASH #9, and prep for the biggest DCU event since BLACKEST NIGHT.

Want to add the entire FLASHPOINT cross-over to your pull list? Click here and under additions type in FLASHPOINT (all), and we'll make sure you get all the chapters!

And, while we're talking FLASH, be sure to check out THE FLASH: DASTARDLY DEATH OF THE ROGUES in hardcover this Wednesday, collecting the first 6 issues of Johns's FLASH run, as well as his FLASH SECRET FILES one-shot

flashhc1

It's only fitting while we're singing the praises of Johns's kick-ass FLASH run that we give a shout-out to the release of it's first arc, The Dastardly Death of the Rogues, in hardcover this Wednesday.

Folks, if you've been a fan of the magic Johns has worked on GREEN LANTERN over the last half a decade, then you need to get into his Flash stuff. It's comic book perfection, I'm telling you. Johns makes Barry Allen fresh, relevant, and even plays up his police forensics background, bringing a very cool, fresh superhero-CSI kind of approach to the world of the FLASH.

The hardcover hits this Wednesday collecting the first six issues of the series, plus the FLASH SECRET FILES 2010 one-shot that served as a bit of a prologue to the series.. all for a low price of $19.99. Seven issues, in hardcover, for only $20? And, it's top notch, quality stuff? Now, that's a good buy, Third Eye Faithful.

Scope it out this Wednesday, and find out what all the fuss is about.

27 #3 - The hit new Image series hits it's third issue this Wednesday, continuing the 27 CLUB conspiracy. A fantastic mixing of sci-fi, modern comics, and rock-n-roll legacies... 27 is killer.

Missed 1 & 2? Snag 'em this Wednesday and get caught up!

273

Image has been on a roll with putting out kick-ass, fresh, and innovative new series, and their latest offering, 27, continues the trend. And, for those of you who haven't read it yet, don't worry, we've got copies of both of the elusive, out of print #1 and #2 in stock and available now despite all printings of this one being out of stock at the distributor level.

What is TWENTY-SEVEN? Well, ever notice how so many rock n roll legends died at the age of... 27? Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison.. the list goes on, and on, and on... well, there's always been a rumor of a 27 CLUB that connects the deaths of these various rock stars, and that's what TWENTY-SEVEN is exploring here. The idea of a conspiracy where young musicians are struck down in their prime due to faustian deals made with otherworldly forces, among other reasons.

The story focuses on a young musician who after coming down with a neurological disorder that makes it so he cannot play guitar any longer. He ends up making some very unsavory deals with a mad scientist figure... and well, all hell breaks loose.

Folks, the series is fantastic so far, with sharp writing, and a unique art style that pulls you in completely.

Snag a copy of #1 and #2, and hop onto this Wednesday's #3 and find out why this has been one of our favorites.

MARVEL'S .1 INITATIVE CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH WOLVERINE #5.1 - THE PERFECT PLACE TO FIND OUT WHY JASON AARON'S WOLVERINE RUN IS THE BEST THERE IS!

wolverine51

The Marvel .1 Initiative continues this Wednesday with WOLVERINE #5.1, and folks, we gotta tell you: YOU NEED TO BE READING WOLVERINE, and this is the perfect opportunity to do so. See, the Marvel .1 system is basically an issue between issues of a series. It serves as a bridge between the last story arc and the new one that's about to start, and it also gives you a quick recap of some of the kick-ass stuff that came before in the series.

In other words, it's the perfect spot to jump on board with a series, and not be lost, and with how good WOLVERINE has been with SCALPED writer JASON AARON penning it... you need to get on this one, folks.

The series has just concluded it's first arc, WOLVERINE GOES TO HELL, and is preparing for the next turning point for everyone's favorite Canadian killing machine.

I'm convinced that Jason Aaron is the man who was born to write Wolverine, and he brings a very raw, no-holds-barred feel to the series, while at the same time paying homage to the spirit of the original long-running ongoing Wolverine series that was around in the late '80s and through the '90s.

Jump on this Wednesday with WOLVERINE #5.1 and find out why this is one of our favorite books. And, for those of you who're like myself, and are already hooked on the series, there's plenty of new stuff awaiting in this issue that make it a vital part of the run.

GREEN LANTERN: EMERALD WARRIORS #7KICKS OFF THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED "WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERNS" STORY LINE THIS WEDNESDAY WITH THIS OFFICIAL PRELUDE

glemeraldwarriors7

Ever since the conclusion of BLACKEST NIGHT, we knew that this day was coming... there's way too many different Lanterns, and Corps, and all that, floating about, for their own good. And, now, this Wednesday, with EMERALD WARRIORS #7, the WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERNS begins.

Geoff Johns and crew continue the masterful run of GREEN LANTERN they've done ever since GREEN LANTERN REBIRTH. And, from REBIRTH to SINESTRO CORPS to BLACKEST NIGHT... Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner, Guy Gardner, and John Stewart have always stood by each other and fought together. After all of that, what could possibly tear them, and possibly the entire GREEN LANTERN CORPS itself apart?

The biggest GREEN LANTERN story since the kick-off of BLACKEST NIGHT, WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERN brings all of the plot-threads that've been running through the various GREEN LANTERN books together, and folks, we cannot wait to see what goes down from here.

Details are still hazy as to which issues this will be running through, but what we do know is it will be mostly contained to just GREEN LANTERN, GREEN LANTERN CORPS, and GREEN LANTERN EMERALD WARRIORS. If you're reading GL, then you should be reading the other two, as the story will be bouncing from one to the next with the upcoming WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERN arc.

As for how it looks? One word: AMAZING. And, starting this Wednesday, it kicks off with a very special Prelude issue of one of our personal favorites here, GREEN LANTERN EMERALD WARRIORS. You wanna see Green Lantern vs. Green Lantern? You wanna see the other color Lantern corps get pulled into the mix?

Read WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERNS.

INCOGNITO: BAD INFLUENCES #3 CONTINUES ED BRUBAKER'S BRILLIANT APOCALYPTIC PULP NOIR THIS WEDNESDAY! A MUST-READ FOR FANS OF "IRREDEEMABLE", "CRIMINAL", and "THE BOYS"

Imagine SIN CITY meets IRREDEEMABLE! Missed 1 & 2? We've got both in stock, as well as the first INCOGNITO Trade Paperback

incognitobadinfluences3

I'm telling you guys, this is probably one of my top favorites whenever it's out. Everything about INCOGNITO, and Brubaker and Phillips's other series CRIMINAL, is just plain good. The writing, the artwork, the inks, the coloring, even the additional content they load the back up is entertaining.

I'm gushing, I know, but I'm telling you guys: this is one of the best comics out, and you need to be reading it.

So, you might be saying.. OK, well, what is INCOGNITO? INCOGNITO ist he story of Zack Overkill... a former supervillain lackey who snitched out his old boss, and was given a new life in Witness Protection. Of course, Zack quickly gets old, and begins a self-destructive spiral back into his old ways that culminates in him throwing his old costume on, and going out and beating down a couple of muggers... and, of course, it puts him on the radar of his old boss, the Black Death, who is none too pleased to find out one of his henchmen is alive and well in Witness Protection.

And from there, Zack's life goes into several dangerous directions. Now, in the current INCOGNITO BAD INFLUENCES series, Brubaker is showing us the depth to the world that Overkill lives and operates in, as well as how Overkill has been kind of forced into working for the feds after the incidents that went down in the original INCOGNITO series. The same bleak, nihilistic atmosphere that surrounded the first series heavily covers BAD INFLUENCES, and it's fascinating to see the stark, gritty world that Brubaker is populating with pulpy superhumans, like Nazi Gorillas, and death-ray toting vixens.

I'm telling you, folks, I cannot stress enough how great of a read INCOGNITO is, and I highly, highly recommend getting into this book. The paranoid, jaded atmosphere of the series is just as strong as it is in the crime noir masterpiece Brubaker and Phillips do in CRIMINAL, but there's the added excitement of pulp heroes, weird science, and the fantastic.

If you're a fan of stories that take a darker spin on established super-hero arch-types, and icons, like IRREDEEMABLE or THE BOYS, then you need to be reading INCOGNITO.

We've got both issues 1 and 2 in stock of the current series, as well as the first trade paperback of the original limited series that kicked the whole thing off. Check 'em out this week, and find out why we're so in loved with this book.

CARNAGE #3 - THE CARNAGE REVIVAL CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY, FEATURING THE INCREDIBLE ARTWORK OF CLAYTON CRAIN - CATCH UP WITH #1 AND #2, STILL IN STOCK!

carnage3 There's some things that are just universal when it comes to comics, and one of those things is that everyone loves CARNAGE to some degree or another if they grew up reading comics in the '90s. And, Marvel, has done a damn fine job of re-introducing the murderous symbiote into the MARVEL UNIVERSE with the new CARNAGE limited series. Instead of resting on their laurels, and taking for granted the fact that Carnage is just plain cool, they've managed to bring the idea of the character into the 21st century with a new take on the symbiote... and a new host. That's right, no more Cletus Cassidy, folks, but instead, the Carnage symbiote has bonded with the character SHRIEK, whom you might remember from MAXIMUM CARNAGE.

The real star of the show here though is CLAYTON CRAIN'S incredible artwork, and how perfect a fit his style is for the Carnage character.

We've been big fans of the series so far, and it's just a plain damn good read. Well-written, great artwork, works in the continuity of the Marvel Universe. All in all, if you're even remotely interested in CARNAGE, you should snag a copy of this one, it's good stuff.

We've got copies of #1 and #2 in stock still in case you need to catch up, so hop aboard this week!

BATMAN AND ROBIN IS ONCE AGAIN A MUST-READ AS BLACKEST NIGHT/BRIGHTEST DAY CREATIVE WONDER TEAM PETER J. TOMASI and PATRICK GLEASON BEGIN THEIR NEW RUN WITH BATMAN AND ROBIN #20 THIS WEDNESDAY

The Dark Knight vs. The White Knight

Who is the White Knight? Find out Wednesday!

batmanandrobin20

BATMAN AND ROBIN has been one of the best Batman books we've seen in ages. Grant Morrison launched this title almost two years ago, and really made it something special for the length of his run. And, while we thought Paul Cornell's short issue run between issues 17-19 was OK, we did feel that it was lacking compared to the craziness Morrison had delivered prior.

And, now, things change again, and BATMAN AND ROBIN is once again a top of the stack must-read monthly title. I got my hands on an advance of Tomasi and Gleason's #20 to preview, and folks: it rocks. Gleason's art has been steadily getting better and better since he began his run with Tomasi on GREEN LANTERN CORPS, and the chops that Tomasi showed during BRIGHTEST DAY and BLACKEST NIGHT are fine-tuned here, as he brings some of his best work with their run on BATMAN AND ROBIN.

I could go on all day about how good this one is looking, but let me just say this if you've been a fan of BATMAN AND ROBIN, and have either dropped the book due to the current run with the Absence villain, or you've been growing bored: GIVE BATMAN AND ROBIN #20 a shot. It's freakin' fantastic, and I haven't been this excited about the title since the first arc Morrison did with Frank Quitely.
But, instead of me continuing to rant and rave, just check out the preview below, and see what I mean.

HACK/SLASH ONGOING SERIES BEGINS THIS WEDNESDAY WITH HACK/SLASH #1 FROM IMAGE COMICS

hackslashongoing1

We're big fans of HACK/SLASH here at Third Eye, and we've been stoked like all get out ever since HACK/SLASH moved over to IMAGE COMICS. It's like a match made in heaven, 'cause HACK/SLASH is the kind of book that definitely fits in well with the quirky, and innovative titles coming out of Image these days.

For those of you who may or may not be familiar with the series, this is the first official ongoing HACK/SLASH series in quite some time. And, it's also a fresh start, and the perfect spot to jump on if you're new to the world of HACK/SLASH.

The creative team behind last year's hit HACK/SLASH MY FIRST MANIAC mini-series is handling this one, and considering how much we dug MY FIRST MANIAC, we're pretty stoked to see what they bring to the table with the new ongoing.

What is HACK/SLASH? Hack/Slash is the ultimate love letter to '80s slasher flicks. Imagine Buffy the Vampire Slayer if she hunted slashers instead of vampires. And, what's a "slasher?" A slasher is the term given to vengeful, pissed off undead killers that cannot be stopped by normal means. In other words, picture Jason Vorhees, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, and heck, even obscurities like the Driller Killer, the Rock N Roll Nightmare guy, and more.. and that gives you a halfway decent idea of what kind of bad dudes Cassie Hack is hunting.

And why does she do it? Well, see, her mom was a slasher. Cassie was kinda nerdy as a girl, got picked on, and because of it, her mom, the lunch lady, started killing kids, cooking 'em in the stew, and became THE Lunch Lady... until the kids all teamed up, and burned her to death in her own cooking. Of course, Cassie's mom comes back as a Krueger-esque looking demon out for vengeance and lots of murder.. and Cassie has to take her out.

From there, the story starts, and folks, it's awesome. If you dig the kind of humor and storytelling of a series like CHEW, which straddles the line between the macabre and the humorous quite well.. plus, have a fondness for B-Grade Horror Movies... You Need This Comic In Your Life!

Wanna go back and get the full origin scoop on Cassie? We've still got copies of the HACK/SLASH MY FIRST MANIAC trade paperback in stock, which collects the official YEAR ONE-style origin story of Cassie Hack.

ULTIMATE COMICS CAPTAIN AMERICA #2HITS THIS WEDNESDAY FROM "WOLVERINE GOES TO HELL" and "SCALPED" writer JASON AARON. MISSED #1? WE'VE STILL GOT COPIES TO CATCH YOU UP

ultimatecaptainamerica2

Gotta tell you, folks, between this and ULTIMATE THOR, we're seeing some nice new additions to the Marvel ULTIMATE universe. I was SUPER impressed by ULTIMATE CAPTAIN AMERICA #1, and I cannot wait to get my hands on ULTIMATE CAPTAIN AMERICA #2 this week and find out what goes down next.

Written by the man responsible for sending Wolverine to Hell in the current WOLVERINE series, and for the critically-acclaimed Vertigo crime drama SCALPED, Jason Aaron, and penciled by one of the most iconic Cap artists (in my opinion) Ron Garney, this series is kick-ass.

Basically, this is the story of who filled in for Cap during the Vietnam War while the original Cap was on ice... and that person just so happened to be the Ultimate version of a character some of you Daredevil fans may know as Nuke. And, this man who once wore the flag... may be the ultimate nemesis to Steve Rogers.

And, folks, it's awesome.

Missed #1? Pick up #1 and #2 this week, and find out why we're jazzed on this one.

DC COMICS PRESENTS: GREEN LANTERN FEAR ITSELF One-Shot THIS WEDNESDAY - THREE GENERATIONS OF GREEN LANTERNS, ALAN SCOTT, KYLE RAYNER, AND HAL JORDAN, ALL UNITED AGAINST ONE OVERWHELMING MENACE.

GLfearitself

Attention GREEN LANTERN fans, this one is a must-read. This killer one-shot packs a lotta story into only 100 pages, and folks, it's awesome.

Three generations of GREEN LANTERNS brought together against one menace that's bringing their worst fears to the surface. Alan Scott, the Golden Age GREEN LANTERN, must face the monster as he brings his greatest fear of a Nazi-controlled JUSTICE SOCIETY to life. And, then twenty-five years later, Hal Jordan barely survives his encounter with the same menace, who torments him with images of a Coast City destroyed by nuclear armageddon, and then finally, Kyle Rayner, in the present day, must face the deadliest incarnation yet of this ancient evil.

An awesome story by legendary GREEN LANTERN writer RON MARZ. A 100 pages of GREEN LANTERN awesomeness for only $8? That's a steal, my friends. Check it out this Wednesday

CINDERELLA: FABLES ARE FOREVER #1 - Fabletown's favorite super-spy returns this Wednesday in CINDERELLA: FABLES ARE FOREVER #1

cinderellafablesareforever1

In case you hadn't noticed, we're all pretty big FABLES fans here at Third Eye. We just love the entire world that Bill Willingham and co. have created with their FABLES series, and it's even better that we get kick-ass stories spinning out of that world.

So, you can understand then, that we're pretty pumped to see another CINDERELLA story hitting the shelves of Third Eye. Yup, this Wednesday, Fabletown's favorite super-spy returns in FABLES ARE FOREVER, where she's put on the case of someone killing sorcerers out on the Farm, and of course, all signs point to an arch-nemesis from her old days. The only problem? Cinderella has always believed her nemesis has been dead for years. So, who is the assassin from Cinderella's past -- the only person who ever came close to defeating her?

Find out this week in CINDERELLA FABLES ARE FOREVER #1. And if you missed out on last year's CINDERELLA series, showing where she debuted, we do have the trade paperback collecting CINDERELLA: FROM FABLETOWN WITH LOVE in stock now.

ONSLAUGHT RETURNS THIS WEDNESDAY IN ONSLAUGHT UNLEASHED #1, AND THE SECRET AVENGERS ARE STUCK IN THE MIDDLE

onslaughtunleashed1

You can't deny it. Nostalgia's a powerful thing, and I think a lot of us remember fondly following every over-the-top second of the massive ONSLAUGHT Saga that spanned the Marvel Universe throughout the late '90s.

And, that's why we're pretty excited about the upcoming ONSLAUGHT UNLEASHED limited series that's launching this Wednesday, featuring the Secret Avengers and the Young Allies being thrown into the Negative Zone to investigate something super bad... and that something is the psychomagnetic abomination called ONSLAUGHT, and it's heading straight for the Marvel Universe.

Click here for a preview of ONSLAUGHT UNLEASHED #1

SHERLOCK HOLMES YEAR ONE #1 - The First Year of the World's Greatest Detective - Witness Watson and Holmes's first meeting set against the backdrop of a steampunk oddities and mysterious murders in this new ongoing series

sherlockholmesyear1

Who doesn't love Sherlock Holmes? I mean, he's one of the greats. One of the classics. And, we have to admit, last year's Guy Ritchie take on the character was pretty kick-ass as well.

But, with this new ongoing series from DYNAMITE, we're getting something a tad different. This wild, steampunky trip through the bloody backstreets of London, and the labs of mad scientists world wide show us the first year of Sherlock Holmes, and how he and Watson first came to work together.

All of the untold origins of SHERLOCK HOLMES are told here, and knowing Dynamite's track record for quality, we're stoked to see more.

Check it out this Wednesday, folks!

MARK MILLAR'S NEMESIS HITS THIRD EYE THIS WEDNESDAY IN HARDCOVER.

From the Creators of OLD MAN LOGAN, KICK-ASS and MORE.

The ultimate Anti-Batman story.

Soon To Be A Major Motion Picture!

nemesishc

No doubt, NEMESIS was one of our favorite reads of 2010. And, we're stoked to let all of you who've been waiting for it to come out in collected form, the wait is over.

Yup, this week, we'll be getting in the entire NEMESIS series collected into hardcover for only $20. And, folks, for as good as this one was, $20 for the hardcover is a steal. It was a fantastic read, with a kick-ass story, and amazing artwork.

For those of you who may have missed it when it originally came out, here's the scoop on NEMESIS... it's Mark Millar doing evil Batman, with a slight touch of the movie HOSTEL, but the less we say about the twist on the plot, the better.

Here's what we can tell you: Nemesis is the world's first and only super-criminal, and he's devoted to the destruction of law and order worldwide. You find out early on that his parents, horrible criminals, both died as the result of their arrest, and he has used this as a way to fuel his crusade for terror and anarchy.

Imagine if Batman was the Joker. And, that's Nemesis. And, at the center of his quest is a hard-as-nails chief of police based out of Washington, D.C. And, that's right, folks, you get to see Steve McNiven drawing our nation's capital, as Nemesis and Blake Morrow go head to head.

The things that happen after are too over-the-top, and just plain vile for us to go into detail about. We'll just say that this is one mean-spirited book, and if you've dug Millar's past work on series like WANTED, KICK-ASS, and OLD MAN LOGAN, then you will love NEMESIS.

Snag it in hardcover this Wednesday, and find out why we're so stoked about this series.

You know, Robert Kirkman, the man can do no wrong. Whether it's his killer take on superheroes with INVINCIBLE, or the mega-popular WALKING DEAD, he's on point. He's always on point. And, his latest new series HAUNT, which he's been working alongside comics legend and Spawn creator TODD MCFARLANE, is over-the-top kick-assery of the highest order.

Best way to describe HAUNT? Imagine a mix of Spawn and Venom written by Robert Kirkman. The sharp, intelligent storytelling of Kirkman, and the raw, comic book energy of McFarlane make the book a must-read, and it's bigger-than-life, mega-violent storyline has had us hooked since issue #1.

What's it about? Haunt is about the Kilgore brothers. One's a merc, one's a priest. One's a jerk, and one's not such a bad guy. And of course, the merc, who's not such a bad guy, gets offted while on a mission... but something goes wrong, and just when the agents who took him out are going for his estranged brother (the jerk)... he comes back as a ghostly entity, takes possession of his brother's body, and covers it in an ectoplasmic suit of body armor... and the two become HAUNT. From there, Haunt kicks off in a blood-drenched, non-stop action-packed thrillride of a comic that we just cannot get enough of.

Not reading HAUNT? Try the first trade for only $10, and find out why we love the series so much.

Already hooked on HAUNT? Then we'll be seeing you this week for volume 2 of this killer series.

And, if you're looking to jump from the trades to the single issues, volume 2 will bring you up to issue #12, and then you can hop on with this week's brand new HAUNT #13.

IMAGE COMICS UNVEILS THE RADDEST ONE-SHOT SINCE SEABEAR AND GRIZZLY SHARK... TYRANNOSAURUS REX... DINOSAUR VS. DINOSAUR. BLOOD, GUTS, AND CAVEMEN.

tyrannosaurusrex1

We love it when Image knocks it out of the park with some over-the-top madness, and this Wednesday, they're doing just that with the upcoming TYRANNOSAURUS REX one-shot, which very much in the vein of SEABEAR AND GRIZZLY SHARK, delivers us to the steaming jungles of a primordial world where man and dinosaur share the food chain.

When a rogue Tyrannosaurus tramples the small village of the Taka-Na one time too many, the delicate balance of this world is destroyed, and it's literally one man against the deadly god-lizard alone.

Blood, guts, and cavemen. This is going to rock.

WOLVERINE #1,000 ONE-SHOT DELIVERS A BIG HEAPING HELPING OF KICK-ASS WOLVERINE STORIES, INCLUDING A WW 2-ERA LOGAN STORY

wolverine1000

I'll admit, normally one-shots like these can go one way or another, but folks, I got a chance to read this one early... and it's good. It's real good. It deserves some attention, and that's why I felt obligated to bring this one to your attention this week.

Wolverine #1,000 is just a simple one-shot that delivers some seriously killer untold tales of everyone's favorite clawed mutant. And, the amount of kick-ass creators involved, like JONAH HEX and TIMEBOMB writer JIMMY PALMIOTTI, is awesome.

The main draw of this one? A full-length story called LAST RIDE OF THE DEVIL'S BRIGADE, where Logan leads a WW2 suicide mission behind enemy lines. There's also a great story that takes him to the depths of the bayous.

And each one of these bad boys is dripping in the gore, just like you want a Wolverine story to be.

CHECK OUT THIS IMAGE COMICS HIDDEN GEM, WITH WHO IS JAKE ELLIS? #1 THIS WEDNESDAY FROM THE WRITER OF LAST YEAR'S "THE LIGHT"

Fans of 100 BULLETS and INCOGNITO, give this a peek.

whoisjakeellis1

This one kind of flew under the radar a couple of weeks ago, but I got around to reading it, and with more copies coming in stock this Wednesday, I figured it deserved a little bit of attention here.

Who Is Jake Ellis? is a sharp, clever new Image limited series that delivers a very cool espionage-spy type storyline. So, the question is Who is Jake Ellis? Well, Jake Ellis, is a ghostly protector of an international man-of-action.

Simple enough, right? Not quite. The story starts out with the main character, Jon Moore, having a very violent misunderstanding with two of his colleagues. The dialogue seems a bit weird, and you wonder if he's talking to someone else. And, then we get a replay of the scene, where we see Moore's guardian angel, Jake Ellis, and you realize that Moore and Jake were speaking to each other.

A clever way of telling the story, WHO IS JAKE ELLIS does things like that all throughout this first issue, and delivers a fun, action-packed first issue of what looks to be a solid super-spy/crime noir kind of story.

Check it out this Wednesday!

SHADOWLAND HITS THIRD EYE THIS WEDNESDAY COLLECTED IN FULL IN ONE GORGEOUS HARDCOVER.. WATCH DAREDEVIL GO OVER THE EDGE, AND CROSS THE LINE FROM HERO TO VILLAIN

shadowlandhc1

One of our favorite Marvel stories from last Summer was the Marvel event that revitalized the streets of Marvel's NYC... SHADOWLAND. Andy Diggle brought a new level of depth, and complexity to the relationships and interactions of Marvel's street-level vigilantes like Moon Knight, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Spider-man, and more.

What's the story about? Well, picture this: after all of the grief that Matt Murdock has seen. After all the girlfriends he's seen killed or destroyed due to his enemies. After having a city turn on him, and air his dirty laundry... he's finally reached a point where he believes a more lethal method of justice is necessary. It all begins with him taking control of THE HAND, and in an attempt to reform this guild of ninja killers and thieves, he begins using them as his own private police force for Hell's Kitchen. And, that's where SHADOWLAND is born. Shadowland is a giant prison/temple that Murdock constructs in Hell's Kitchen. He drives out the local police, and replaces them with his ninja task force. And, while the Avengers are weary, they're trusting him to not go over the line... and then Bullseye returns, and well, lets just say Daredevil goes from Man without Fear to Man without Remorse, and Shadowland kicks into full gear.

Highly recommended, if you want a good, solid Marvel tale featuring the more grounded characters of the Marvel U, then give this one a shot this Wednesday.
