THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE FOR WEDNESDAY 3/9/11

VENOM RETURNS THIS WEDNESDAY IN THE ALL-NEW ONGOING VENOM SERIES WITH VENOM #1 FROM RICK REMENDER (writer of UNCANNY X-FORCE) and TONY MOORE (original WALKING DEAD artist, FRANKENCASTLE, and more)

venom1

Dude, I'm calling it right now... this is going to be one of the best series of the summer. The quality of the creative team, the awesomeness of the character, and just the overall killer feel of everything that we've seen on this series so far are setting this up to be one of the biggest books of the summer. I'm serious, folks, I haven't been this stoked for a new series since UNCANNY X-FORCE debuted last year.

And, I'm telling you now, just like Rick Remender has made Uncanny X-Force into a top tier must-read that brings something fresh, and innovative to the X-Books, he's doing it again alongside Tony Moore with their new ongoing Venom series.

And, while it's no secret that we're big fans of Remender's writing, and the kick-ass stuff he's done in the past few years with things like FEAR AGENT, PUNISHER, and most recently UNCANNY X-FORCE, we gotta say: Tony Moore is one hell of a big draw on this one too. His art is some of my favorite in comics right now, and his work on everything from the original run of WALKING DEAD to last year's FRANKEN-CASTLE arc has impressed the hell out of me. He's perfect for a Venom title.

As for the direction of the series, it picks up with the newest host to the Venom symbiote, and as we've already found out, the new Venom is a very interesting character from Spider-man's past. We don't want to spoiler anything for those of you who're behind a few issues, but, lets just say this guy's got a long history of animosity towards Peter Parker, and unhealthy obsession towards Spider-man.

And, where does this leave Eddie Brock? Oh, don't worry, we think you guys who're fans of the original Venom bad boy will be pleased with that little development too.

I could go on and on about how much I'm looking forward to this book, but judge for yourselves, Third Eye Faithful, take a peek at the preview pages of the upcoming issue, and just look at how damn nice the art is on this one. And ,Remender is no slouch in the writing department, so you know the story is going to pop in a major way. If you're a fan of his recent work on UNCANNY X-FORCE, you should especially give this one a go, as we feel you'll not only dig the story, but also Tony Moore's art which is in a very similar style to Jerome Opena (who did the first arc of X-Force).

BATMAN INCORPORATED #3 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY, FOLLOWING UP THE FIRST TWO ISSUES OF GRANT MORRISON'S FLAGSHIP BATMAN SERIES FEATURING BRUCE WAYNE

Missed 1 & 2? Catch up with both in stock now!

batmaninc3

Grant Morrison's BATMAN INCORPORATED continues this Wednesday with the highly anticipated, long-awaited third installment of BATMAN INC. The best Batman title we've read since the launch of Morrison & Quitely's BATMAN AND ROBIN, this series has been delivering the kind of unique, and innovative Morrison BATMAN storytelling that we've become accustomed to throughout his runs on BATMAN AND ROBIN, RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE, and BATMAN RIP. Bigger-than-life, high concept stories that bring the weird crime element back into the world of the Caped Crusader, this series may be the high point of Morrison's work on the Dark Knight.

The series has been following a recently returned Bruce Wayne, who after having recently revealed he's been funding Batman's mission and is planning on expanding the Batman ideal to the entire world (see BATMAN AND ROBIN #16, in stock now), is traveling the globe recruiting BATMEN for various parts of the world.

The first arc has taken the Caped Crusader to Japan where he plans to recruit long-time Japanese vigilante, Mr. Unknown, as his Batman of Japan, but arrives only to find Mr. Unknown's disfigured remains after having been strapped to a chair and doused with acid by a Batman villain from the old, old BAT-MANGA series in the '60s: Lord Death Man. Now, Batman alongside Selina Kyle, are looking for the killer of Mr. Unknown, and in the process, recruiting his replacement.

The team of Morrison and Pacquette on this book bring the kind of out-of-this-world, high concept weirdness that Morrison is known for along with the sleek, streamlined 21st century approach to the Dark Knight. The art and story compliments each other perfectly, and we feel that out of all the current Batman books, BATMAN INCORPORATED is one of the best you could be following if you're looking to stick to the adventures of Bruce Wayne and the continuity of the BATMAN INCORPORATED storyline.

Missed issues 1 and 2? We've got copies of both in stock and available to get you caught up.

OUTSIDERS #37 *REIGN OF DOOMSDAY CHAPTER 2* - THE REIGN OF DOOMSDAY KICKS INTO HIGH GEAR WITH OUTSIDERS #37 THIS WEDNESDAY! MISSED STEEL #1 ONE-SHOT *REIGN OF DOOMSDAY CHAPTER 1*?

We've got copies in stock to catch you up!

outsiders37

Folks, here it is, the REIGN OF DOOMSDAY begins to kick into full swing with this Wednesday's OUTSIDERS #37, featuring the second chapter of the big REIGN OF DOOMSDAY crossover that began last month in the STEEL #1 one-shot.

This one's a biggie, folks, and judging from the awesome start things got off to in the STEEL one-shot, we're stoked to see where things are going next. In case you didn't know, Doomsday is the individual pretty much handed the Man of Steel his behind over 15 years ago. Yes, this is the creature that KILLED Superman!

And, many of you, like myself, remember being swept up in the nationwide craze that the Death of Superman brought, and I'm sure you can't help but be nostalgic about ol' Doomsday. I know I can't. Truth is though, this is probably one of the best Superman villains, heck, one of the best DCU villains created in the last twenty-five years. His back story, his origins, and just the entire presentation of the character screams one thing: awesome.

This week, in OUTSIDERS #37, Doomsday touches down in Markovia after the devastation he dealt out to Steel last month, and is looking to put the Eradicator to rest, as he continues on his path to Superman.

The Reign of Doomsday storyline looks to be leading up to a pretty kick-ass summer storyline involving Superman, and we have a hunch that it centers around the upcoming ACTION COMICS #899 which features the big showdown between Luthor (who's been questing for the Black Lantern ring), and Supes.

STUFF OF LEGEND: THE JUNGLE #4 WRAPS UP THE SECOND VOLUME OF ONE OF THE BEST NEW SERIES WE'VE SEEN IN YEARS!

Imagine "TOY STORY" meets "SAVING PRIVATE RYAN" if it was directed by HELLBOY's GUILERMO DEL TORO

stuffoflegendjungle4

One of our biggest favorites of the last few years has been STUFF OF LEGEND, a new indie series that popped up a couple of years ago, and really took comics as a whole by storm. This little book that started out as a small-press locally published gem, and went onto become a New York Times Best Seller continues to find new fans here at Third Eye, and with the second volume of the series ending this Wednesday in STUFF OF LEGEND: THE JUNGLE #4, we figured this is a good time to preach the gospel and tell you why we love the series so much, and why you should check it out.

STUFF OF LEGEND, is a series which centers around a young boy, who is kidnapped by the Boogeyman and taken to his realm, while his father fights overseas in World War II. The boy's faithful gathering of toys come to life, and cross over into the Boogeyman's realm, only to become real versions of themselves. The teddy bear becomes a ferocious grizzly bear, the Jester becomes a knife-wielding wild card, and more. And, from there, you're taken on one of the most compelling rescue missions we've seen in any medium in years.

Writers Mike Raicht and Brian Smith do a fantastic job of bringing a sense of depth, and realism to the all-too-surreal world of the Boogeyman. The toys become real in more ways than one, and the personalities of each character really shine and help make the book a great read. And, we can't forget C.P Wilson's amazing artwork, which really brings the book to life in a big way. His unique art style brings the characters to life in a dreamy, Tim Burton-esque kind of storybook way, and we love it.

One thing that grabs you right away about STUFF OF LEGEND is the level of presentation and production involved in the book. This book has production qualities that rank up there with the big two publishers, and it's coming from an indie, and that folks, is impressive. You can tell that there's a lot of love put into the book, from the story, to the art, to the presentation of the comics and graphic novel.

And, now, the second volume of this incredible series is ending this Wednesday with STUFF OF LEGEND THE JUNGLE #4.

If you're new to the series, we've got all the issues of STUFF OF LEGEND THE JUNGLE in stock, so you can get caught up on the current run, and we'd also recommend picking up the first trade paperback which is only $13.00 and collects the entire first STUFF OF LEGEND series in one book.

Highly recommended, this is one of our biggest faves and has been for almost two years now. Give it a go this week!

I sat down and talked a little with STUFF OF LEGEND Mike Raicht about the series, where it's headed, and some other projects he's got going on (including his recent work on GI JOE INFESTATION).

THE AGE OF X CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY IN X-MEN LEGACY #246 *AGE OF X CHAPTER 3* - THE BEST X-MEN CROSSOVER WE'VE SEEN IN A WHILE! A MUST-READ FOR FANS OF ALTERNATE HISTORY STORIES. MISSED THE FIRST FEW CHAPTERS? WE'VE GOT 'EM IN STOCK TO CATCH YOU UP

xmenlegacy246

The AGE OF X storyline that's currently running through X-MEN LEGACY and NEW MUTANTS is one of the raddest X-MEN crossovers we've seen in quite some time. First off, we're huge fans of the now-classic AGE OF APOCALYPSE storyline from way back when, and this storyline reminds us A LOT of that storyline in terms of the tone and the feel.

For the full scoop on AGE OF X, click here to read our write- up on the series, as well as to check out the full checklist of the series.

In a nutshell? It's an alternate history where the X-Men never formed, there's only a handful of mutants alive in the world, and everything has been drastically changed. One of the coolest changes is the role of Cyclops as a character called Basilisk. He was being held at Alcatraz by Governor Arcade, and with his eyelids cut off, was being used as a human firing range. Totally awesome.
And of course, the big thrill of this is the mysterious connection that this alternate history has to the regular 616 Marvel Universe, something that we're being clued in to with each and every issue.

As for what's going on in this week's installment, Rogue has stumbled upon the secret hidden deep within the bowels of Fortress X. And, now, she's public enemy number one. A fugitive amongst her own kind, Rogue goes on the run, and must outlast mutantkind's most ruthless killers.

27 #4 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY, ONE OF THE BEST NEW IMAGE SERIES OF 2011, A WILD MASH-UP OF MAD SCIENCE, OCCULT MADNESS AND ROCK N ROLL

274

The conclusion to one of the raddest Image limited series we've seen this year so far has been 27. I mean, it's obvious that we're big music geeks here at Third Eye, so you know we totally are eating up a series that's so steeped in rock n roll lore, but beyond that, it's just a damn good series.

Will Garland is a young musician who developed a neurological disorder at the age of 27, and lost his ability to play his guitar. After making some seriously faustian deals with a VERY shady scientist figure, he's regained his abilities.. but at what cost? And, we soon find ourselves pulled deep into the mysterious world of the 27 Club. The old school rock-n-roll myth behind all the various music legends that've died unexpectedly at the age of 27.

Now, in issue #4, after having met Jim Morrison and learning the truth behind the 27 Club, Garland must face his final conflict with The Nine and Erebus, the very spirits of creation and decay, to see if he can somehow make it through to his 28th birthday.

A must-read for those of you who've been digging many of the fresh new titles Image has been putting out these days. 27 kicks ass, and has not disappointed so far, we're stoked to see how this one concludes.

Missed the first three issues? We've got 'em in stock to get you hooked up.

JONATHAN HICKMAN'S ULTIMATE THOR HITS THIRD EYE THIS WEDNESDAY COLLECTED IN HARDCOVER! ONE OF THE BEST ULTIMATE RUNS WE'VE SEEN SINCE MILLAR & HITCH'S "THE ULTIMATES", CHECK THIS ONE OUT!

ultimatethorhc

Folks, you know that we're all die-hard Hickman fanboys and fangirls here at Third Eye. In my opinion, he's one of the brightest shining stars in newcomer comic writers that this decade has seen, and his tremendous work on recent stuff like FANTASTIC FOUR, SECRET WARRIORS, and his creator owned stuff like PAX ROMANA and RED MASS FOR MARS, has never failed to impress us.

Over the fall, Hickman and Pacheco knocked it out of the park in a major way with their ULTIMATE THOR series, and really delivered what we thought was the best take on the Ultimate universe since the early days of Millar and Hitch's run on the series.

Hickman and Pacheco go back to the origins of Thor, Loki, and the rest of Asgard in the Ultimate Universe as they bring Ragnorak in all it's thunder and flame, with Asgard prepared to topple. Baron Zemo, a mysterious commander who's working as an occultist for the Nazis during World War II, is responsible for the corruption of the Realms, and armies of Frost Giants in German uniforms storm the gates of Asgard, with only Thor and the Warriors Three there to fend them off.

A fantastic read, with loads of surprise twists, widescreen battles, and over-the-top action. If you've been looking for a good graphic novel set in the Ultimate Universe, snag a copy of this one this week.

5 RONIN CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY IN 5 RONIN #2 - THIS "1602"-ESQUE RE-IMAGINING OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE AGAINST THE BACKDROP OF FEUDAL JAPAN IS INCREDIBLE!

5ronin2

We are so damn stoked about this new limited series from Marvel. It reminds us a lot of Neil Gaiman's 1602, and plays around with alternate histories in the Marvel Universe in a very interesting way. Five issues, five characters, one epic story, all set against the backdrop of feudal Japan, how awesome is that?

I gotta say it's pretty refreshing to see a different take on the characters, and see the classic origins stories told in a different light. The first issue got us set up, showing us Wolverine and his role as a samurai in feudal Japan, and now, going forward, in this week's #2, it looks like we get to see just what the Hulk would be like if he existed during this time period.

From what we got from last week's 5 RONIN #1, there's a bigger, over-arching story that connects these five issues into one cohesive story, and we're very intrigued by that. Another big star of the book is artist Coker who really brought a dark, gritty feel to the first issue. And, we still get a chance to see characters like Deadpool, Punisher, and Psylocke all re-imagined in this way as well.

All in all, we're stoked to see where this one goes next, and we're having a lot of fun with it. One of the best little limited series Marvel has done in quite some time.

LEGION OF SUPER-VILLAINS ONE-SHOT BRINGS THE PSYCHOPATHS OF THE 31st CENTURY TO THE CENTER STAGE THIS WEDNESDAY

losv1

You know, ever since Brad Meltzer's Lightning Saga and Geoff Johns's work on SUPERMAN & THE LEGION OF SUPERHEROES and FINAL CRISIS LEGION OF 3 WORLDS, I've become a huge fan of the LEGION OF SUPERHEROES stuff.

I wasn't around way back when for some of the really classic runs on the series, but the above arcs really intrigued me enough to go back and read stuff like the GREAT DARKNESS SAGA, and most of the Giffen and Levitz run on the book, and I gotta say: I see why these characters have such devoted fanbases now.

And, as such, I've been enjoying both ADVENTURE COMICS (Phil Jiminez FTW!) and LEGION OF SUPERHEROES immensely since their relaunches. But, what I like even better is the LEGION OF SUPER-VILLAINS, especially after how rad they were in LEGION OF 3 WORLDS.

This Wednesday, everyone's favorite team of 31st century psychopaths return, now led by Saturn Queen, they're breaking out of Takron-Galtos to wreak havoc on the United Planets. If you're a Legion fan, or just plain enjoy a good DCU story, you're gonna wanna snag a copy of this one, as it looks kick-ass.

GARTH ENNIS'S JENNIFER BLOOD #2 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY FOLLOWING UP THE FIRST ISSUE OF "THE BOYS", "PREACHER" & "CROSSED" writer GARTH ENNIS'S NEWEST SERIES!

SUBURBAN HOUSEWIFE BY DAY... BLOODTHIRSTY VIGILANTE BY NIGHT... AWESOME 24/7.

jenniferblood2

I know, I know, we already went over this last month with you guys about how we're huge Garth Ennis fans here at Third Eye, and pretty much fall head over heels for anything the man writes. And, trust us, folks, it's well-deserved. Ennis rocks. He always manages to deliver solid read, and his latest and greatest with JENNIFER BLOOD is no exception to that rule.

With THE BOYS nearing it's conclusion (ending at issue #70), Jennifer Blood is a nice addition to Ennis's library to keep us knee-deep in carnage, and bloodshed.

The story centers around a woman who, without the knowledge of her family, is a vigilante after-hours. It has a very old school cult cinema feel to it, reminding us a lot of revenge movies like Ms. 45, and THRILLER - They Call Her One Eye. What's the story about? Well, we'll give you the scoop.

Meet Jen. She's married with two kids, seemingly living a fine suburban life. But her life is far from normal now that she's a ruthless vigilante by night calling herself Jennifer Blood. The first issue was a good set-up, showing us the interesting way of how Jennifer Blood balances out her day to day life as a loving wife and mother with her clandestine activities as a ruthless killer by night.

The book has a very PUNISHER MAX feel (another book Ennis made his mark on), and if you're a fan of Ennis's work on stuff like PUNISHER MAX, THE BOYS, and so on, then we think you'll like this one. Ultra-violent, with a touch of dark humor, Jennifer Blood is pure Ennis up and down.

Missed issue #1? Don't sweat it, we've got plenty of copies in stock and available now to get you caught up to this week's #2.

ULTIMATE COMICS SPIDER-MAN #155 *DEATH OF ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN PROLOGUE PT 4* - The BIGGEST story to hit the Ultimate Universe since it's launch continues! These are some of the best Ultimate Marvel titles we've read since the original runs of ULTIMATE SPIDEY & ULTIMATES.

ultimatespiderman155

Man, DEATH OF ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN is gearing up to really make the Ultimate Universe a must-read again. I gotta tell you, this has been the best damn ULTIMATE-verse story arc I've seen in a long time, and while we're bummed to see Ultimate Spidey getting the boot, we gotta admit, we're enjoying the ride.

The storyline continues this Wednesday, as the original architects of the Ultimate Universe, Bendis and Millar, continue to craft this compelling tale. This issue is very special, as it looks to be Peter Parker revealing some very shocking secrets that will either cost him his friends and family, or bring them closer than they've ever been.

This is the beginning of the end for Ultimate Spider-man, and we can only wonder what path he's heading on, aside from you know... the grave. :)

Missed the first three chapters? Don't worry, we've got plenty in stock to catch you up.

BATMAN AND ROBIN #21 - THE NEW CREATIVE TEAM OF TOMASI & GLEASON HAS MADE THIS BOOK THE BEST IT'S BEEN SINCE THE EARLY ISSUES OF GRANT MORRISON'S RUN! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

batmanandrobin21

Last month, Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason debuted on BATMAN AND ROBIN #20, and totally blew us away. While we were getting a little worried when Morrison left about the direction of the book, I gotta tell ya, I am totally back on board with Tomasi and Gleason. These are two of the main guys who, alongside Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis, helped to make both BLACKEST NIGHT and BRIGHTEST DAY so damn awesome.

And, this Wednesday, the second issue of Tomasi and Gleasons run hits, continuing their first arc on the book, with "DARK KNIGHT, WHITE KNIGHT PT 2". The opening to the first issue of this one was dynamite, and Tomasi is giving us the kind of action-packed, slightly off-the-wall feel that we came to love and know in Morrison's early days on BATMAN AND ROBIN. Gleason's pencils and Sinclair's coloring are also stars of the show here, bringing the book to life in a big way, and they fit Tomasi's writing like a glove.

From the almost heartwarming opening of the first issue of their run to the breakneck cliffhanger of #20, they've got us on the edge of our seats waiting to see where things go next in BATMAN AND ROBIN #21 this Wednesday.

The actual story arc itself is pretty intriguing as it shows a new form of defender trying to replace Batman and Robin in the wake of the Batman Incorporated storyline.

All in all, this book is back to it's top tier status as a must-read Batman book, and if you're not following it, or you dropped off when Morrison left, you should seriously pick back up with issue #20 and hop on for the start of Tomasi and Gleason's incredible run.

SKULLKICKERS VOLUME 1 1000 OPAS AND A DEAD BODY - MUST-READ NEW IMAGE SERIES, GET THE FIRST 5 ISSUES FOR ONLY $9.99 THIS WEDNESDAY WITH THIS FIRST TPB!

Imagine THE HANGOVER or LETHAL WEAPON mixed with WORLD OF WARCRAFT or DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS

skullkickerstpb1

For the last few years, Image Comics has been on a roll, putting out some of the most innovative, and refreshing new series on the stands. They've really made a name for themselves as the premiere publisher of creator-owned series that span a wide range of genres.

This Wednesday, the first trade paperback collection of one of their biggest hits of 2010 arrives with SKULLKICKERS VOLUME 1 - 1000 OPAS and a DEAD BODY. This series is a fantastic read, and it really fills a void in the comic market for good fantasy-oriented comics.

And this series is truly unique, from Edwin Huang's INCREDIBLE animated-style artwork that looks like it lept off the screen of a Capcom game to Jim Zub's clever writing and plotting, this series is amazing.

Take the buddy movie humor of something like THE HANGOVER, or LETHAL WEAPON and mix it with the high fantasy worlds of say WORLD OF WARCRAFT or DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS, and the end result is SKULLKICKERS an ultra-violent, super funny series that keeps us coming back for more and more every month.

The series focuses around two bumbling mercenaries, the strong and silent big guy character, and his mouth dwarven buddy, and their misadventures. If you've ever gamed, and always had those one or two guys who ruined every campaign, or screwed up every raid, it'd be these guys.

Awesome read, try the first trade with issues 1-5 for only $9.99 this Wednesday. Wanna jump onto the monthly? We've got #6 in stock to catch you up after the first trade.

Prefer to follow the series in single issues? We've got 1-6 in stock and available now as well.

MARVEL UNVEILS THE CROSSGEN UNIVERSE WITH THEIR NEW FANTASY LINE OF COMICS IN SIGIL #1 THIS WEDNESDAY FROM THE CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED WRITER OF "THE UNWRITTEN", "LUCIFER", and "AGE OF X", MIKE CAREY

sigil1

Sigil #1 kicks off an exciting new line of comics from Marvel this Wednesday under their CrossGen imprint, which looks to bring exciting new genres of storylines to the Marvel line of titles.

A little history, CROSSGEN was a line of comics from a few years back that brought some very exciting, high quality and dynamic storylines to the masses. Now, with a fresh new direction for the storylines, and brand new stories that're easy to jump into, Marvel has acquired the CrossGen line, and is bringing things back with their first title, SIGIL.

Mike Carey, a man who is no stranger to writing quality fantasy-oriented stories with series like THE UNWRITTEN and LUCIFER, pens SIGIL, which tells the story of a war for time itself. Warriors jump from century to century, their battlefields spanning all of history but leading them to a stalemate. And now, a 16 year old girl from present-day South Carolina will turn the tide. The symbol that's appeared on her chest makes her a part of this war, but will she save reality itself, or damn all of creation?

This one looks to be a modern day fantasy epic of the highest order, and with some incredible artwork, and fantastic writing, we cannot wait to see where this one leads.

I really feel that this new series has a lot of potential, judging from the previews I've seen. It's a really unique, well-done meshing of modern day settings and fantasy realms, and the art and writing are both seriously on point. Give it a go this week!

NO HEADLINE NECESSARY: WALKING DEAD #82. IN STORE. WEDNESDAY. YES! ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS ON THE STANDS GETS EVEN BETTER!

walkingdead82

What can we say? A new issue of WALKING DEAD is always a cause for celebration, 'cause lets face it: it's one of the best books on the stands, month in and month out. And, as with each and every issue of WALKING DEAD, if we go too much into detail about what's happening in the most recent issue, we may hit spoiler territory, and well, that would probably get us into some hot water with the multitudes of rabid WD devotees. :)

So, what we will say is this: if you're not yet reading WALKING DEAD, you need to start. It's so much more than just a simple zombie comic, folks. The writing on this is the sharpest of any comic we carry, and Kirkman has managed to keep this series fresh, and interesting after 82 issues. That, my friends, is a true feat. I highly recommend snagging a copy of the first trade paperback (and hey, it's only $10, so you can't beat that!), and diving head first into the awesomeness that is WALKING DEAD.

As for those of you who're already hooked on the series, we know where you'll be this Wednesday. :) At the new issue rack grabbing your copy!

VERTIGO RESURRECTED: FINALS HITS THIS WEDNESDAY FOR ONLY $7.99, COLLECTING THE ENTIRE 4-ISSUE CULT FAVORITE SERIES FEATURING JILL THOMPSON (SCARY GODMOTHER, BEASTS OF BURDEN) AND HER CUTTING EDGE COLLEGE TALE FEATURING TIME-TRAVEL, FIREARMS, AND MORE! A MUST FOR YOU MORNING GLORIES FANS!

finalsvertigo

We love these killer little value-priced trade paperbacks that DC has been putting out, and this week, they're delivering a cult favorite of our's with the four issue FINALS mini-series from Will Pfeifer and Jill Thompson (who you may know from other Third Eye faves like Scary Godmother and Beasts of Burden).

This one will especially appeal to those of you who're hooked on the new Image series MORNING GLORIES, as it has a similar tone. The story focuses on Wally Maurer, his girlfriend Nancy, and his housemates at Knox State, a college where the goal for most students is to survive one another's senior projects (time travel machines, 'hyper-cinema-verite', and armed robbery, for example).. as well as their own projects.

This one is a fun read with tons of mad science, a little bit of ultra-violence, and loads of cutting satire that takes on the elitism, mindless amusements and hidden agendas of higher education as seen through the eyes of five seniors who just want to graduate -- without getting killed.

Give it a look this Wednesday.

THIRD EYE STAFF PICKS
Steve - GREEN LANTERN #63 - This WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERNS thing is looking more and more epic with each installment we see, and I simply cannot wait to see where the next one takes us.

Trish - CARBON GREY #1 - Gorgeous art, hot chicks with giant swords and guns causing massive amounts of carnage, and totally rad steampunk stylings. What's not to love?

TORMA - ANNIHILATORS #1- I've been big on all the cosmic stuff since ANNIHILATION and if you're looking for something to fill the void that THANOS IMPERATIVE and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY left, THIS is the book you need to read. It kicked so much ass.
