THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS FOR WEDNESDAY 7/20/11

WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERNS AFTERMATH #1 FOLLOWS UP THE SHOCKING ENDING OF THE WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERNS FROM LAST WEEK

warofgreenlanternsaftermath1

All right, folks. This could be a somewhat spoiler-riffic write-up for those of you who have not read GREEN LANTERN #67 last week, with it's conclusion to the WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERNS. Already read it? Don't care about spoilers? Scroll down then, and read further!

As we saw last week in the conclusion of WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERNS, Geoff Johns has pretty much set the board for the upcoming GREEN LANTERN #1 that'll be part of the DCU RELAUNCH. Honestly, I had my own theory that this new GREEN LANTERN would be who it turned out to be, but it was still a great surprise, and a very satisfying end to an already awesome story arc.

Who is the new Green Lantern? The one, the only.. Sinestro. Yes, we've seen his road to redemption built up over the last few years under the very talented writing of Geoff Johns, and this past week, we saw that as the WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERNS concluded, Sinestro was re-inducted into the Corps.. and Hal Jordan? He got the boot.

So, I'm sure many of you, like myself have questions: What's going to happen to Hal now? What does the future hold for us with the former villain Sinestro as the GREEN LANTERN? What is the fate of his Sinestro Corps? That's the purpose of the upcoming WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERNS AFTERMATH limited series.

This two-part limited series explores all of the events following hot on the heels of the conclusion of WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERNS, and also lays the groundwork for upcoming new GREEN LANTERN series like RED LANTERNS #1, NEW GUARDIANS #1, GREEN LANTERN #1, and GREEN LANTERN CORPS #1.

Personally, I can't wait. The WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERNS was one of the most exciting DC titles I've read this year, and to see where it's headed, and what Geoff Johns's future plans are is pretty awesome.

DAREDEVIL RETURNS THIS WEDNESDAY IN THE BRAND NEW, ALL-STAR ONGOING SERIES BY MARK WAID (IRREDEEMABLE, KINGDOM COME) and SUPERSTAR ARTIST PAOLO RIVERA WITH THIS WEEK'SDAREDEVIL #1

daredevil1

I've always been a big fan of Daredevil as a character. He's one of those characters that whenever the right writer and artist get a hold of him.. it's pure comic magic. I'm not sure what it is about the character, whether it's the down-to-earth street-level feel of him and his world, or if it's the complex ethical dilemmas that Matt Murdock faces on the regular, or heck, maybe Frank Miller wrote DD so damn good that he'll be ripe for good stories for years?

Anyways, it's been a long time since I've been this excited about DAREDEVIL. I think the last time I really looked forward to Daredevil this much was back when Bendis and Maleev were doing their CLASSIC run (available now in trade paperback).

Now, kicking off this Wednesday, is the brand new ongoing DAREDEVIL series, and oh my god, does this thing look great. Paolo Rivera and Marco Martin's artwork on this is amazing, and totally fits the snap of Waid's writing. Most of you are already familiar with the name Mark Waid, so you know, this guy's got the chops. He's written one of our favorites for the last few years with IRREDEEMABLE (the saga of a Superman-esque character gone bad), and is no stranger to writing tragic figures struggling for redemption (INCORRUPTIBLE). Waid still remains one of the best men working in comics today, and to see him on DD is a real treat.

It looks like this run kicks off with a goal of getting DAREDEVIL back to basics, as he begins at the ground up, waging a war on the underworld of Hell's Kitchen and taking back the streets of New York City.

DD went through some nasty stuff during SHADOWLAND, but this is a fresh start for the hero, and we're loving what we're seein. The art and writing style is very reminiscent of the Jeph Loeb / Tim Sale "color" books like HULK GREY, DAREDEVIL YELLOW, and SPIDER-MAN BLUE.

If you're a fan of stories similar to those, or even the mystery noir of BATMAN THE LONG HALLOWEEN, we really think you'll dig the new DD series.

Brand new to the world of DAREDEVIL? This is the PERFECT jumping on point. A fresh start with a great creative team, and a back to basics approach that brings the hero back to his roots. You couldn't find a better spot to get into the character.

I personally recommend checking this one out on Wednesday, folks, it's looking to be one of the best new titles out this Summer.

GARTH ENNIS REVEALS THE SECRETS OF THE BOYS RUTHLESS LEADER IN THE BOYS: BUTCHER BAKER CANDLESTICK MAKER #1 THIS WEDNESDAY

BOYSBUTCHERBAKER1

Not only are we pumped about the upcoming BUTCHER BAKER CANDLESTICK MAKER mini-series, but, this also gives us an excuse to clue those of you not already in the know in on THE BOYS and how awesome a series it is.

Okay, first off.. THE BOYS, what is THE BOYS? THE BOYS is a long-running series by PREACHER/CROSSED writer GARTH ENNIS that explores a dark reality where superheroes are real and function as private contractors on the government's payroll for national superhuman defense. Of course, many of these superhumans are totally degenerate, and even those who originally went into the life with the aim of helping people have been twisted into a number of different monsters, be it the power-hungry, or the just plain sadistic, they're messed up.

And, in this world, THE BOYS, are a small group of individuals who have had their lives totally ruined by the Capes, and now dedicate themselves to bringing sheer pain and misery down on the Capes, be it physical, mental, or even blackmail, THE BOYS do it.

It's a great series with a dark sense of humor, a great take on superheroes, and loads of violent over-the-top action. We recommend snagging the first trade if you're curious about jumping on board.

Now, this week.. THE BOYS: BUTCHER BAKER CANDLESTICK MAKER #1 is the first issue of a long-awaited limited series exploring the secret history of THE BOYS most enigmatic member.

Billy Butcher is a ruthless leader who's hatred of the capes runs deep, and will not stop him from doing whatever it takes to ruin them. From the backstreets of London's East End to the carnage of the Falklands War, from the heights of love to the depths of tragedy, the most violent man in comics reveals the terrible nature of the forces that drive him.

And, when he's finished telling his story... it's time to finish things once and for all.

Leading directly into the upcoming finale of THE BOYS (#60), this is one not to miss. Make sure you snag your's this Wednesday!

FLASHPOINT WEDNESDAY: FLASHPOINT WONDER WOMAN AND THE FURIES #2 ,FLASHPOINT DEADMAN AND THE FLYING GRAYSONS #2 , FLASHPOINT THE OUTSIDER #2, AND FLASHPOINT THE LEGION OF DOOM #2 FEED OUR FLASHPOINT FIX THIS WEDNESDAY

flashpointwonderwoman2

FLASHPOINT is kicking ass, and continues to keep us coming back week after week with the many awesome tie-ins. This week, we've got the FLASHPOINT WONDER WOMAN AND THE FURIES #2 leading the charge, which explores the other half of the giant war between EMPEROR AQUAMAN and WONDER WOMAN, and with ANNIHILATION/THANOS IMPERATIVE scribes on board, has proven to be one of our favorite tie-ins in the line.

The first one ended with a bang, and we cannot wait to see what's in store with the next one.

Missed the first issue? We've still got copies (along with the free buttons that come with it) in stock to get you hooked up.

Click here for a preview of FLASHPOINT WONDER WOMAN AND THE FURIES #2

flashpointdeadman2

Next up we've got another favorite of mine with the FLASHPOINT tie-ins, and that's the DEADMAN and the FLYING GRAYSONS limited series. I'm a huge Nightwing fan, AND a huge DEADMAN fan, and I'm also a sucker for any kind of story set in a Carnival setting, 'cause I've been enamored with carnies and sideshows since I was a kid.

The first issue of this one was great, and got things off to a rockin start, with a rude and arrogant DEADMAN mentoring a young dick Grayson after the Amazons take out his fam. Now, the question is can the self-absorbed DEADMAN be convinced to join the Resistance against the Amazon occuptation of Great Britain?

Missed the first issue? We've still got copies, along with free DEADMAN buttons in stock to hook you up.

Click here for a preview of

FLASHPOINT DEADMAN AND THE FLYING GRAYSONS #2Â

flashpointoutsider2

Next up, we've got FLASHPOINT THE OUTSIDER, which is proving to be one of the most compelling of the tie-ins in terms of the grand mystery behind THE OUTSIDER and his origins. We've seen how Michael Desai is as ruthless in his personal life as he is in the business world, and now a look back to his origins shows us how he took over the crime scene in India and set up the power base he has today. But, when Black Adam launches a final attach to get rid of him, the Outsider will have to eliminate his long-time nemesis once and for all.

Missed the first issue? We've still got copies, along with OUTSIDER buttons in stock to get you hooked up.

flashpointLOD2

And, then finally, rounding out the FLASHPOINT tie-ins, we've got the FLASHPOINT LEGION OF DOOM, which I REALLY liked the first issue of. This story of classic DC rogues in prison ended with a huge surprise, showing us Plastic Man in a frightening new light.

Missed the first issue? We've got copies in stock and available still to catch you up, along with free LEGION OF DOOM buttons.

FEAR ITSELF WEDNESDAY: FEAR ITSELF FF #1 by CULLEN BUNN leads the charge, FEAR ITSELF DEADPOOL #2 continues the ridiculousness, the JUGGERNAUT saga continues in UNCANNY X-MEN #541 andAVENGERS #15 delivers a BIG FEAR ITSELF tie-in. PLUS MORE!

FEARITSELFFF1

Marvel has been outdoing themselves with the tie-ins to FEAR ITSELF this summer, delivering some of the best written, tightly-woven tie-in titles we've seen from an event in quite some time.

This week they've got a whole slew of awesome-looking tie-in titles heading at us, including one we're very pumped for, the FEAR ITSELF FF #1.

We've been HUGE, and I mean, HUGE fans, of the current FF run by superstar writer JONATHAN HICKMAN, and when we heard that rising star CULLEN BUNN (SIXTH GUN, THE DEEPS) was going to be heading up the FEAR ITSELF FF mini, we got even more stoked.

The focus? Ben Grimm, the Thing, has been deemed "worthy" by the villainous Serpent and now it's up to the FF to put an end to his rampage. Out of all THE WORTHY, I think seeing THE THING wielding a hammer may be the coolest. Not sure why, but the visual, and the whole background of the charater makes it very intriguing. A must for anyone following the FF, check this one out on Wednesday.

Click here for a preview of FEAR ITSELF FF #2

fearitselfdpool2

One of the breakout hits of the FEAR ITSELF tie-ins has been the totally awesome FEAR ITSELF DEADPOOL by the one and only DR. MCNINJA mastermind Christopher Hastings. What happens when Deadpool bedazzles a hammer? Well, he decides to make his own hammer-wielding foe... with THE WALRUS.

Missed #1? We've got copies in stock to catch you up!

avengers15

Next up, we've got the AVENGERS tie-in that's been running since AVENGERS #13, and which continues to keep us hooked. We're loving this series, and as the flagship title of the Marvel Universe, this one really stands out. All we can say is... we have a feeling a Hulk will die before FEAR ITSELF is over, and we wonder how closely these AVENGERS tie-ins will hint into that.

Click here for a preview of AVENGERS #15

uncannyxmen541

And, the final FEAR ITSELF tie-in that really stands out this week is the second issue in the UNCANNY X-MEN FEAR ITSELF tie-in arc. This arc is leading up to two major things, one of which ties into the events of X-MEN SCHISM, and the upcoming concluding of the UNCANNY X-MEN series, and one which leads us to a storyline involving COLOSSUS getting the Juggernaut's magic gem, and taking on his armor.

Both of these facts make us want to read this one even more! Click here for a preview of UNCANNY X-MEN #541

There's some other great FEAR ITSELF tie-ins coming out this week as well that we didn't have room to write-up, like the FEAR ITSELF FEARSOME FOUR #2, HULK #37, HERC #5, IRON MAN 2.0 #7 and FEAR ITSELF HOMEFRONT #4.

Click here for our full FEAR ITSELF CHECKLIST.

RISING STAR SPAWN ARTIST SZYMON KUDRANSKI BRINGS HIS AMAZING ART TO US WITH REPULSE THIS WEDNESDAY - A VERY COOL SCI-FI SERIAL KILLER THRILLER.. IMAGINE BLADE RUNNER meets SE7EN.

repulseoneshot

IMAGE has really been delivering some seriously great reads this year, and this week, they're unleashing another one of their kick-ass one-shots on us with REPULSE. From the artist of SPAWN, Szymon Kudranski, a newcomer who has been really making a name for himself, and is definitely a name to watch (seriously, I love this guy's art), is writing and illustrating this killer sci-fi thriller focusing on a vicious serial murderer.

In the near future, when robotics and other high-tech solutions help solve the most awful crimes, a unit called After Crime allows detectives to taste, feel and see what murder victims experienced before death. Sam Hagen is an AFTER CRIME detective, a broken man with one chance for redemption catching a serial killer who preys on Hagen's fellow cops. Will the solution save Hagen, or doom him?

A brutal, unrelenting new twist on the serial killer vs. tortured detective genre. Imagine SE7EN and BLADE RUNNER mashed into one dark, glorious package.

Click here for a preview of REPULSE.

CRIMINAL MACABRE vs. THE GOON: WHEN FREAKS COLLIDE ONE-SHOT BRINGS THE RETURN OF SUPERNATURAL DETECTIVE CAL MCDONALD

gooncriminalmacabre

Two of my favorites brought together into one book? How awesome is that? Seriously though, the return of Steve Niles's drug-fueled paranormal private investigator, Cal McDonald, coinciding with the arrival of THE GOON is a recipe for pure success.

This one-shot serves not only as a killer story featuring loads of screwed-up humor, crazy monsters, and pure horror, but also works as a great introduction to both THE GOON and the world of CRIMINAL MACABRE.

Click here for a preview of CRIMINAL MACABRE/THE GOON: WHEN FREAKS COLLIDE

BATMAN GATES OF GOTHAM #3 - SCOTT SNYDER, the writer of the upcoming BATMAN #1 DC RELAUNCH title, continues to weave a compelling, and intriguing history of GOTHAM CITY'S elite.

GATESOFGOTHAM3

We are mega SCOTT SNYDER fans here at Third Eye, and are totally digging his work on series like DETECTIVE COMICS and AMERICAN VAMPIRE, but his recent GATES OF GOTHAM has really shown us that he's got what it takes to be helming the headline title of the DC RELAUNCH.

This series has done a fantastic, and fascinating job of weaving a history of the various families that founded Gotham City. Whether it be the Waynes, or the Elliotts, Snyder puts together the kind of tale that draws you in and does not let go.

And, in doing so, he's telling one hell of a story set in the present as well. In issue #3, it's BATMAN AND RED ROBIN vs. The Architect, a villain that has been tearing through Gotham's first families like a hurricane. And, most importantly, the secrets of Gotham continue to unearth, which will be leading to the foundations of the BAT-FAMILY titles in the DC RELAUNCH.

Missed 1 & 2 ? We've got copies in stock to hook you up.

ULTIMATE COMICS FALLOUT #2CONTINUES TO LAY THE FOUNDATION FOR THE NEW ULTIMATE UNIVERSE. DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS TITLE, AS THIS IS A KEY SERIES IN THE DEBUT OF THE NEW ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN & THE NEW ULTIMATE UNIVERSE.

ultimatefallout2

Last week we gave you guys the full rundown on this ULTIMATE FALLOUT series, and folks, after reading last week's #1, I'm hooked. Bendis really has got it, and set the stage perfectly.

Now, this week, ULTIMATES art team of BRYAN HITCH and PAUL NEARY join us for what looks to be the setting up of the ULTIMATE AVENGERS in the ULTIMATE UNIVERSE. And, in the meantime, the road to the debut of the new ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN continues, which from what we've been told by Marvel is going to make a MAJOR splash when it happens (and trust us, you will want these back issues when that goes down, they're going to be scarce then!).

Missed last week's issue #1? We've got copies in stock to catch you up.

ROB LIEFELD'S CLASSIC FALLEN ANGEL HEROINE AVENGEYLNE RETURNS TO COMICS THIS WEDNESDAY IN AVENGELYNE #1

avengelyne1

Rob Liefeld is making his big return this summer with the upcoming DC RELAUNCH and HAWK AND DOVE, and it's only fiting he'd also bring back one of his most iconic creator-owned characters as well.

The fallen angel returns as New York City's sins are covered with a fresh blanket of snow, and the psychotic serial killer, Torment, is hard at work creating new ones.

Meanwhile, Avengelyne has her hands full with the Red Dragon who has taken a human vessel in search of a new apprentice. Who has the Dragon chosen as his vessel and does it have anything to do with the new appearance of Avengelyne?

Whether you're a long-time fan of the character, or a fan of series like TWILIGHT GUARDIAN, WITCHBLADE, and MAGDALENA, take a peek at AVENGELYNE this Wednesday.

DC RETROACTIVE BEGINS THIS WEDNESDAY WITH BATMAN: THE '70s, THE FLASH: THE '70s, and WONDER WOMAN: THE '70s.

CLASSIC CREATORS TELLING NEW STORIES SET IN THAT ERA

batman70s

Here's something that when I first read about it, I knew was going to be awesome, and now seeing more, and more on it, I'm pretty stoked.

Leading the charge this week is the DC RETROACTIVE BATMAN: THE '70s one-shot by the legendary LEN WEIN (SWAMP THING, INCREDIBLE HULK), telling us an all-new story set in the '70s time period.

This was a defining period for the Caped Crusader, as it was when he transitioned from the TV's campy Adam West Batman to the DARK KNIGHT DETECTIVE.

Also hitting this week are the RETROACTIVE FLASH, and RETROACTIVE WONDER WOMAN one-shots, which bring the same unique spins to these iconic characters.

THE MIS-ADVENTURES OF ADAM WEST DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY WITH MISADVENTUERS OF ADAM WEST #1

adamwest1

The legendary star of the '60s BATMAN series, and of course, in recent memory, the Mayor of Quahog in FAMILY GUY, the quirkiness, and goofiness of ADAM WEST is explored in a big way in this new series.

Adam West has his career youth-enized in this hip-whimiscal, trans-dimensional epic of an adventure. When a mysterious fan delivers an exotic amulet to Mr. West's doorstep, he's whisked off on an oddysey that will change his career, and his life forever.

It sounds totally ridiculous, and I'm sure it is, but c'mon.. it's Adam West. :)

THE LEGENDARY CREATOR OF GROO & LONG-TIME MAD MAGAZINE CONTRIBUTOR SERGIO ARAGONES GOES SOLO IN SERGIO ARAGONES FUNNIES #1 THIS WEDNESDAY FROM BONGO COMICS (publishers of SIMPSONS & FUTURAMA)

sergiofunnies1

I am a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE fan of Sergio Aragones, and while GROO will always be a favorite, I'm an even bigger fan of the random short strips and other fun things that he'd do.

Sergio Aragones Funnies, a new ongoing title, from Matt Groening and BONGO COMICS, delivers an assortment of autobiographical anecdotes, perplexing puzzles, ridiculous short stories, and of course, all of Sergio's unique and hilarious pantomimes and gags.

Sometimes it's cool to just have a good humor comic, and if you're an old-time MAD MAGAZINE fan, or anything close, you should give this one a shot. I know I'm personally stoked.

ROBERT KIRKMAN AND CLIFF RAITHBURN'S REAPER RETURNS THIS WEDNESDAY WITH REAPER #2 - A SWORD & SORCERY EPIC WITH AN IMAGE SPIN, A MUST-READ

reaper2

Last week IMAGE re-released ROBERT KIRKMAN and CLIFF RAITHBURN's hidden gem, REAPER, a horror/fantasy tale that the two originally did several years ago.

The original REAPER one-shot (in stock and available now) told the violent and gutsy story of a deadly assassin, Reaper, who had been hired by a mysterious figure to kill a supposedly indestructible tyrant ruler. That mysterious figure turned out to be none other than death itself, though, whose ultimate aim was to wipe out all life on Earth.

Raithburn's, who also provides the gray-tones and inks on WALKING DEAD, art brings the story of REAPER to life in a big way. In this second installment, REAPER begins 400 years after DEATH failed to eradicate life. Now, the magical gem that gave Lord Shirak his power has fallen into the possession of our hero, allowing Reaper to become a warlord himself. Unfortunately, Death is not easily deterred.

An awesome read, snag the first one and #2 this week to get in on this kick-ass SWORD & SORCERY epic from the folks behind WALKING DEAD.

MARVEL UNIVERSE VS. WOLVERINE #2 - THE PREQUEL TO THE CANNIBAL SUPERHERO ARMAGEDDON OF MARVEL UNIVERSE VS. PUNISHER CONTINUES

marveluniversevswolverine2

One of the best sleeper hits of last summer was the MARVEL UNIVERSE VS. PUNISHER limited series which delivered a WHAT IF? story where the entire MARVEL UNIVERSE had succumbed to a disease that turned them into blood-thirsty, sadistic cannibal predators, and the PUNISHER was the last man on Earth, hunting them down one by one.

Now, we're getting the official prequel to that one, and learning just how that nasty cannibal plague spread. Following the shocking events of chapter 1, Wolverine is a destroyed man. The world needs him to be a hero, but he knows he is a monster. So, what happens when a more terrible monster rises to form the first tribe of superhuman cannibals? Will Logan allow the owrld to be devoured, or will he cut a swath through these guys.

The first series delivered some crazy sighs, like THE THING holed up in the BAXTER BUILDING wearing a necklace of human hands, and the PUNISHER lining the streets of NEW YORK with the heads of various superheroes on spikes.

We can only imagine what's in store with MARVEL U vs. WOLVERINE.

Click here for a preview of MARVEL UNIVERSE VS WOLVERINE #2

Missed issue #1? We've got copies in stock to hook you up! Wanna check out the MARVEL UNIVERSE VS PUNISHER STORYLINE? We've got the trade paperback to catch you up.

WITCH DOCTOR #2 - THE NEW IMAGE HIT RETURNS WITH THIS FORAY INTO A SUPERNATURAL MEDICAL PROCEDURAL ON ROBERT KIRKMAN'S OWN SKYBOUND IMPRINT

witchdoctor2

WITCH DOCTOR hit the store last month, and made a huge splash, delivering one of the freshest new IMAGE series we've seen since the debut of MORNING GLORIES last year. The killer high concept from writer Brandon Seifert, and the AMAZING artwork by the very talented Luka Ketner made this one a fantastic read, and we can see why ROBERT KIRKMAN decided to make this the first non-Kirkman book to be released on his own SKYBOUND imprint.

One part Doctor Strange, one part medical procedural, and a whole lotta sheer horror disturbing, WITCH DOCTOR is one heck of an awesome read, and we love it.

Another foray into medical horror arrives this Wednesday, as Dr. Vincent Morrow sees a disturbing infestation spreading through the nurseries of Arkham, Oregon.. Cuckoo Faeries.. sueprnatural parasites that plague the babies of new mothers and turn them into crazy parasites.

And, there's also some shark cage diving with sea monsters going on here too. Seriously.

AWESOME read, if you missed #1, snag yourself a copy this Wednesday.

Click here for a preview of WITCH DOCTOR #2

DEADLANDS: MASSACRE AT RED WING ONE-SHOT CONTINUES THE DEADLANDS SERIES OF ONE-SHOTS DELIVERING SIXTH GUN-STYLE WEIRD WEST AWESOMENESS THIS SUMMER

deadlandsmassacre1

We're a huge fan of the steampunky Weird West appeal that the new IMAGE series DEADLANDS has going for it, and we're pretty stoked to see two of the best Western writers working today on this week's DEADLANDS: MASSACRE AT RED WING one-shot.

That's right, JONAH HEX maestros PALMIOTTI & GRAY, also the men responsible for recent one-shot hits like TRAILBLAZER & TATTERED MAN, bring their unique style to the world of DEADLANDS, a Weird West setting that blends the horror an Western genres effortlessly.

Missed the first of the DEADLANDS one-shots with DEADLAND THE DEVIL'S SIX GUN? We've still got copies in stock to get you hooked up.

ROCKETEER ADVENTURES #3 - THE THIRD INSTALLMENT IN THE GRAND RETURN OF DAVE STEVENS CLASSIC PULP FICTION ICON

rocketeeradventures3

We are totally loving IDW's recent revival of THE ROCKETEER in the new ROCKETEER ADVENTURES series, and this Wednesday, we're in for a treat, as they deliver another collection of kick-ass ROCKETEER stories.

This one takes us from high-spirited pulp adventures from folks like Tommy Lee Edwards, Alex Ross, Bruce Timm, and Joe R Lansdale to the too-cool Junior Rocketeer brigade, and of course, some more pin-ups by the late, great Dave Stevens.

Missed 1 & 2? We've got copies in stock to hook you up.

DUKE NUKEM'S MADE HIS GRAND VIDEO GAME RETURN, AND MAKES HIS COMIC BOOK DEBUT THIS WEDNESDAY WITH DUKE NUKEM GLORIOUS BASTAD #1

dukenukemgloriousbastard

I gotta tell you, folks, Duke Nukem's a big guilty pleasure. It's a nostalgia trip for me, and totally reminds me of popping shareware disks into my first PC, and being in total awe of the fact that a video game used bad words. ;)

Seriously though, Nukems always a blast, and IDW's delivering a brand new limited series which shows us what time-traveling Nazi UFOS, space pigs, and the French Resistance have in common? They're all about to run head-on into Duke Nukem, and that means they're about to meet a painful end.

ARIEL OLIVETTI DELIVERS SOME AMAZING ARTWORK ON THE NEW THOR: HEAVEN & EARTH LIMITED SERIES, BEGINNING THIS WEDNESDAY IN THOR HEAVEN & EARTH #1

thorheavenandearth1

There are some comics that the art alone makes them stand out on the racks, and this new THOR limited series, THOR: HEAVEN & EARTH is definitely one of those comics. There's been no shortage of THOR minis this year, and some of those have been REALLY good, but this one looks plain awesome.

In the days before Ragnarok, the Gods of Asgard stare across the ramparts of their city towards a massive, demonic army massed at the gates -- the prophesied End of All Days is about to begin. As the army of darkness begins their initial attacks, Thor confronts Loki, who is destined to usher in the Fall of Asgard. But, what he learns from Loki changes the way he sees his treaherous half-brother forever.

A great companion to the current storyline running in JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY. This isn't just an awesome THOR story, but an awesome LOKI story as well.

Click here for a preview of THOR HEAVEN AND EARTH #1

STAFF PICKS

STEVE: X-MEN SCHISM #1 - Man, I feel like I did when I first picked up MUTANT GENESIS by Claremont and Jim Lee growing up. This is a great start for what could be the next big epic X-MEN story.

TRISH: FLASHPOINT EMPEROR AQUAMAN #2 - Is it possible for AQUAMAN to get any cooler than he is now? This has been awesome!

TORMA: FF #6 - Seriously, this is like the best damn Marvel book I'm reading, gets better and better with each issue.

TONY (PRINCE FREDERICK): CAPTAIN AMERICA #1 - Now, THIS is a CAPTAIN AMERICA comic. I was a long-time fan of Bucky as Cap, but it is awesome to see Brubaker refreshed and kicking ass with McNiven on this.
