THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE FOR WEDNESDAY 7/6/11

FLASHPOINT #3 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY - THE ROAD TO DC'S NEW DIRECTION CONTINUES, AS THE ENTIRE DCU IS FLIPPED ON IT'S HEAD IN FLASHPOINT

flashpoint3

Okay, so there's no doubt that you've been hearing us rant, and rave, and carry on about how great DC's big summer event, FLASHPOINT, has been. They've really captured lightning in a bottle with this one, Third Eye Faithful, and I haven't been this excited about a DCU storyline since BLACKEST NIGHT, or heck, even my all-time favorite: IDENTITY CRISIS. They're really knocking it out of the park with each and every issues, and only two issues in, we're totally shocked by how much they've packed into the beginnings of this arc.

Now, going forward this Wednesday, we're all primed for the third installment of FLASHPOINT, which is looking to be a high mark in the storyline so far. After the shocking ending of issues 1 and 2, we can only imagine how they're going to top themselves. Not to mention we've seen the entire world of FLASHPOINT fleshed out, and further developed over the last month in many of the excellent FLASHPOINT tie-in titles that've been coming out.

I think my biggest question is: where does Project Superman fall into this? Last week's PROJECT SUPERMAN #1 was an awesome read, and a perfect lead in directly to FLASHPOINT #3.

Now, for those of you not yet reading FLASHPOINT, please, allow us to give you the scoop: FLASHPOINT is a huge, universe-spanning DC COMICS storyline where the Reverse Flash, after having ran back in time and screwed with something in the time-stream, has caused the entire DCU to turn on it's head. Imagine Marvel's HOUSE OF M storyline but set against the backdrop of the DCU.

And, writer GEOFF JOHNS (BLACKEST NIGHT, GREEN LANTERN SECRET ORIGIN, BRIGHTEST DAY) knows what it takes to really keep us interested. In the world of FLASHPOINT, there's so many interesting twists on characters. It's been two months or so since issue #1 came out, so we feel we can give you a little insight, including one of the coolest twists which is (just highlight the following text to read for yourself): Batman is not Bruce Wayne, but instead, Bruce Wayne's father, after witnessing his son Bruce and his wife murdered. It's twists like that, the new spin on Aquaman as a crazy, blood-thirsty dictator bent on destroying the world in his war with Wonder Woman, and much more that are keeping us hooked.

The gravity of FLASHPOINT is that this is the storyline which is leading the way to the upcoming DC COMICS relaunch in September. In other words, the events of FLASHPOINT's conclusion are what will completely turn the DCU on it's head, and lead to the NEW 52 titles which will be debuting in September.

As far as the quality of the series... it's top notch. This is comics at their finest, with GEOFF JOHNS bringing his A+ game 100%, and penciler Andy Kubert delivering some of the best superhero art on the stands.

If you're not yet reading FLASHPOINT, hop aboard with issue #1, and #2, and snag a copy of #3 this Wednesday to get caught up.

AND, ALONGSIDE FLASHPOINT, WE GET A ROUND OF FOUR FLASHPOINT FOLLOW-UP TIE-INS WITH FLASHPOINT BATMAN,FLASHPOINT ABIN SUR, FLASHPOINT SECRET SEVEN and FLASHPOINT WORLD OF FLASHPOINT

flashpointbatman2

FREE FLASHPOINT BATMAN KNIGHT OF VENGEANCE PIN WITH PURCHASE

One thing I have to say about FLASHPOINT, not only has the main series been awesome, but all the cool tie-in spin-offs have been really good as well. It's rare that you see this high of quality in the entire line of a series, but it really does shine through on most of these books.

This week, we're getting the next round of FLASHPOINT tie-ins, with BATMAN KNIGHT OF VENGEANCE #2, ABIN SUR THE GREEN LANTERN #2, SECRET SEVEN #2, and WORLD OF FLASHPOINT #2.

First off, lets start with the one we're most hyped for: FLASHPOINT BATMAN KNIGHT OF VENGEANCE #2. The twist on BATMAN in FLASHPOINT is obviously one of the biggest draws, and his true identity, is by far, one of the coolest angles we've seen in a series.

The first issue of the BATMAN tie-in did a fantastic job of introducing us to his world, both as a Wayne and as the Dark Knight. And, it also showed us how ruthless he can be.. ending with him burying a machete into Killer Croc's brain, without even thinking twice.

We were given a glimpse at the FLASHPOINT JOKER at the very end, and it looks like that's what we're going to see more of going into this week's FLASHPOINT BATMAN KNIGHT OF VENGEANCE #2.

Missed issue #1? We've got copies to hook you up, and if you didn't already grab your pin, don't worry, we've got BATMAN pins left to hook you up.

Click here for a preview of FLASHPOINT BATMAN KNIGHT OF VENGEANCE #2

flashpointabinsur2

FREE FLASHPOINT ABIN SUR THE GREEN LANTERN PIN WITH PURCHASE

Another huge FLASHPOINT tie-in is the FLASHPOINT ABIN SUR GREEN LANTERN title, which links back directly to the mainline DCU as evidenced by the very last couple of pages of FLASHPOINT ABIN SUR #1.

In the world of FLASHPOINT, Abin Sur never crashed and gave his ring to Hal Jordan, so he remained the Green Lantern of our sector. Now, we're shown how it would have played out had Abin Sur remained our GL. Of course, there's much more than a focus on Sur in this one, but also a focus on the entire Green Lantern Corps in the world of FLASHPOINT, especially Sinestro... who KNOWS something is up, and this, my friends, is the most intriguing aspect of FLASHPOINT so far.

Missed the first issue? Snag yourself a copy this Wednesday, and catch up to this week's FLASHPOINT ABIN SUR #2. And in case you missed your GREEN LANTERN FLASHPOINT button the first go around, we've got ones available with purchase of FLASHPOINT ABIN SUR THE GREEN LANTERN #2.

flashpointsecretseven2

FREE FLASHPOINT SECRET SEVEN PIN WITH PURCHASE

Next up, we've got the FLASHPOINT SECRET SEVEN which has been showing us the fates of many of the DCU Magic-themed characters in the world of FLASHPOINT. With George Perez as one of the creative forces behind this mini, we gotta give it some serious love, and the fact that it shines the spotlight on characters like SHADE THE CHANGING MAN, amongst others, has got us hooked.

We're very intrigued to see what clues this series will give us in regards to the upcoming JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK series launching in September.

Missed issue #1? We've got copies in stock to catch you up, and if you missed your SECRET SEVEN badge the first go around, we've got ones available to hook you up with purchase of FLASHPOINT SECRET SEVEN #2.

flashpointworldoffp2

FREE FLASHPOINT WORLD OF FLASHPOINT PIN WITH PURCHASE

One of the surprise hits of FLASHPOINT is the WORLD OF FLASHPOINT series which provides a very cool look at the various historic events in the FLASHPOINT universe that have made things the way they are now. For example, Aquaman's flooding of Paris, is shown, as well as others, and the FLASHPOINT version of Alice 13.. Traci 13.. could be one of the most important keys to solving the mystery that is FLASHPOINT.

An awesome read with solid storytelling and great art, if you missed issue #1 of this one, snag yourself a copy this Wednesday and catch up to #2. We've also got WORLD OF FLASHPOINT pins still available for those of you who missed them with purchase of WORLD OF FLASHPOINT #2.

FEAR ITSELF #4 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY BRINGING A THREAT SO BIG THAT THE BIG 3 OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE (IRON MAN, CAPTAIN AMERICA and THOR) MUST FACE IT.

Plus... hints of what's to come in X-MEN: SCHISM?

fearitself4

Duuuude. FEAR ITSELF has been a monster of an awesome read, and after the shock ending of last month's FEAR ITSELF #3... we are totally pumped to see where this one goes next. So far, each action-packed issue of FEAR ITSELF has delivered the kind of bigger-than-life blockbuster smash-em-all storytelling that we have been wanting from a Marvel event.

Now, this week, FEAR ITSELF #4 delivers what could possibly be the biggest issue of the event so far. When speaking with MATT FRACTION about the storyline a few months back before it officially began, I remember him telling me how issue #4 promises to bring some major revelations, and will leave many readers jaws on the floor.

And, is it just me, or does the teaser cover above have hints of what's to come with X-MEN: SCHISM?

What's FEAR ITSELF? Marvel's biggest storyline since CIVIL WAR, FEAR ITSELF is a universe-spanning epic where the Red Skull's daughter, Sin, has awakened an ancient Asgardian deity who is potentially more powerful than Odin himself, and is sending Mjolnir-like hammers across the Marvel Universe where they're taking various Marvel characters and turning them into hosts for the Serpent God.

Totally epic, and bigger-than-life in every way, the landscape of the Marvel Universe is going to be completely changed by the time we reach the end of this one, and just judging from seeing characters like JUGGERNAUT, THE HULK, THE THING, and more being gifted with hammers and joining the ranks of the Serpent god's WORTHY, things have only begun.

Missed earlier issues? We have the prologue BOOK OF THE SKULL, as well as FEAR ITSELF 1-3 in stock to catch you up to this week's FEAR ITSELF #4.

We also have all of the various tie-in chapters in stock and available now.

FEAR ITSELF UNCANNY X-FORCE & FEAR ITSELF WOLVERINE DELIVER TWO MEGA-AWESOME, AND MEGA-HUGE TIE-INS THIS WEDNESDAY

fearitselfuncannyxforce2

One of our favorite Marvel series in 2011 has most definitely been UNCANNY X-FORCE, and now, moving forward, we're getting even more UNCANNY X-FORCE awesomeness with this KICK-ASS looking tie-in to FEAR ITSELF with FEAR ITSELF: UNCANNY X-FORCE #1.

As fear grips the globe, an extreme faction of the mutant hate group the Purifiers belives that the end times are here, and that the devil has come for humanity. And, now, it's up to them to "save" as many human souls as they can before the devil strikes... but, the question is: can X-Force stop their drive for worldwide suicide? And, what exactly brings fear to the mutant kill crew known as the Uncanny X-Force?

Love, love, love UNCANNY X-FORCE, and I cannot wait to read this FEAR ITSELF tie-in.

fearitselfwolverine1

And, then the second FEAR ITSELF tie-in we're majorly stoked for this week is the FEAR ITSELF WOLVERINE #1, which shows us amidst the unstoppable force of Fear Itself tearing through New York City, Wolverine and Melita Garner, find themselves having to make hard decisions in order to do what they do best. The British intelligence turned mercenary black ops group STRIKE has taken advantage of the chaos and activated sleeper agents for one final, deadly mission. It's up to Wolverine to stop them, but... at what lengths, and what cost?

This one looks to promise an old-school, hack and slash WOLVERINE story set against the backdrop of FEAR ITSELF.

ELRIC: THE BALANCE LOST #1 - MICHAEL MOORCOCK'S SWORD-AND-SORCERY ANTI-HERO RETURNS IN A BRAND NEW ONGOING SERIES FROM BOOM! (Publishers of IRREDEEMABLE, HELLRAISER, PLANET OF THE APES & MORE)

ELRIC1b

If you're like us, and have been totally digging on the recent HBO series, GAME OF THRONES, then you will love this new ELRIC series. First of all, this is a great introduction to the classic character, and is a very accessible and easy jumping on point. Secondly, it's probably the best incarnation we've seen of Moorcock's classic anti-hero yet.

What's the scoop on ELRIC? Originally introduced in the early '70s, Michael Moorcock's ELRIC has been a major influence on comic luminaries ranging from NEIL GAIMAN to WARREN ELLIS. Now, Moorcock pairs up with BOOM! Studios to deliver an all-new ongoing series that sees a crisis breaking out across multiple worlds with Moorcock's two other legendary creations: Corum of the Scarlet Robe, and Dorian Hawkmoon, getting pulled into the mix.

The workings of Fate are being tampered with across the Multiverse, upsetting the Cosmic Balance, and Elric is on a quest to restore The Balance and save the Multiverse from ruin... but, what's his motivation for doing so? One of the most fascinating aspects about the Elric character has been his somewhat amoral leanings. And of course, what would Elric be without the cursed sword, Stormbringer, which brings him health, strength, and fighting prowess but must be constantly fed souls of those struck with the black blade, and always seems to bring disorder and strife to Elric's life.

This is looking to be an awesome new series, and with a lack of just plain good fantasy-driven comics on the stands, we're pretty stoked to see Elric returning.

Highly recommended, folks, snag yourself a copy of ELRIC THE BALANCE LOST #1 this Wednesday and find out why we're so pumped about Elric's return.

VIC BOONE #1 - IMAGINE PHILIP K. DICK BLADE RUNNER-ESQUE SCI-FI meets CRIMINAL or 100 BULLETS-style CRIME NOIR! TOTALLY CYBERPUNK, TOTALLY HARDBOILED, TOTALLY AWESOME.

VIC BOONE'S THE SLEEPER HIT OF THE SUMMER!

vicboone1

Here's one of those indie gems that somehow slid it's way into my inbox, and really surprised the heck out of me. We've been really digging a lot of the stuff from up-and-coming indie publisher 215 INK (their JESUS HATES ZOMBIES comics are a blast), but it looks like VIC BOONE is going to be their breakout book. This book is REALLY freakin' good.

A straight-up sci-fi noir, that brings SIN CITY and the Mos Eisley Cantina together into a mash-up that reads like if PHILIP K. DICK, and ED BRUBAKER got together, drank beers, shot guns, and wrote a really awesome comic.

With all that being said, the artwork in VIC BOONE is really what first grabbed me, and it's the stylized quirky vibe that manages to bring a grimy future feel with the same kind of subtle tones and shadows that CRIMINAL uses to us in a very unique way. The coloring on this one is especially interesting, and it just does more to really pull you into the book.

What's the story on VIC? Vic Boone was once a motorcycle daredevil, but these days, he's settled into life as a private investigator. The kind of P.I that's an arrogant, shady individual who rubs elbows with the lowest of lowlifes in a vibrant future-world overrun by intergalactic wasteoids, sentient house flies, and femme fatales that will be teh end of him.

Robots rock rayguns in cheap diners, and dead bodies litter the corners of the world of Vic Boone.

One of the coolest things we've seen in a while, with some very cool art. This could be one of the biggest sleeper indie gems of the year.

Make sure you snag yourself a copy of VIC BOONE #1 this Wednesday.

BRIAN WOOD'S NORTHLANDERS VOLUME 5 "METAL" HITS THIS WEDNESDAY, DIG UP YOUR BATHORY AND AMON AMART ALBUMS, AND JUMP INTO THE MOST BRUTAL, AND UNRELENTING VIKING COMIC YOU'VE EVER READ!

northlandersvol5

We're huge, huge, huge fans of Brian Wood, and we especially love Brian Wood's NORTHLANDERS series, which does something very few comics are able to do this well: blending entertaining, and compelling stories with historically accurate events. Wood manages to weave tales of brutal, and unrelenting viking battles with real deal historical happenings in a way that makes it hard to distinguish the fiction from the reality, and we LOVE it.

Each volume of NORTHLANDERS can stand on it's own, but they're all so good, it's best to go back and just start with book 1, trust us, you'll love it. The writing, the storytelling, the whole shebang, is just so good, it's hard to not get excited about the series.

This week's NORTHLANDERS Volume 5 collects issues 29-36, which show us the tale of blacksmith Erik who liberates Ingrid from her corrupt missionary captors, and the two of them set out to live by the "old ways,", hoping to find something they can feel is their own. The Church won't let them go so easily, though, and sets out to bring them back by any means necessary.

Again, more awesomeness from Wood and crew, NORTHLANDERS is a testament to good comics, and if you're not reading it, we recommend snagging book 1, which has issues 1-8 for only $10!

MARVEL INTRODUCES THE NEXT GENERATION OF SUPER-VILLAINS... TOO VIOLENT, TOO VICIOUS, AND TOO UNPREDICTABLE FOR THE LEGENDARY VILLAINS OF DAYS GONE PAST IN VENGEANCE THIS WEDNESDAY

vengeance1

Here's one that quietly crept out of the Marvel catalog while we were browsing, and totally grabbed my attention. This new limited series from Marvel, written by BUTCHER BAKER writer JOE CASEY, delivers a very compelling exploration of the varying degrees of EVIL in the Marvel Universe.

When Magneto tries to rescue a young mutant on the run, he accidentally kicks off a series of events that will bring more strife and mayhem to the Marvel Universe than he's ever done himself. Who are the out-of-control and vicious new villains the Teen Brigade? Who are the Brotherhood and what do they want with the Young Masters of evil? And, how is the Red Skull pulling the strings of all these violent, super-villain youth crews from beyond the grave?

A new generation of super-villains, more violent, more cunning, more ruthless... this one looks AWESOME, and I cannot wait to read to see how the old and new cross paths.

GREEN ARROW: INTO THE WOODS HARDCOVER HITS THIS WEDNESDAY COLLECTING 1-6 OF THE BRAND NEW GREEN ARROW ONGOING SERIES, AND TYING INTO BRIGHTEST DAY!

ONE OF DC'S BEST NEW SERIES OF 2010/2011 NOW COLLECTED

greenarrowintothewoodshc

One of DC's biggest breakout hits of 2010/2011 has been the new GREEN ARROW ongoing series, which has been probably one of the best approaches to the Emerald Archer that we've seen in quite some time. Taking Oliver Queen back to his grittier, Longbow Hunters-era roots, the current GREEN ARROW run has served as not only a great GA title, but also a very effective tie-in to the BRIGHTEST DAY storyline.

This Wednesday, the first volume of the series hits the shop in hardcover, collecting issues 1-6 of GREEN ARROW. After Star City was devastated by an attack by the villain PROMETHEUS in the pages of JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRY FOR JUSTICE, the White Lantern Ring gave birth to a massive, mysterious forest located at the center of the destruction. Now, Green Arrow dwells within the woods, and strikes against the crime and corruption of the world as a modern day Robin Hood-like character.

Awesome storytelling, awesome artwork, if you've ever wanted to get into the Green Arrow, or are already a fan, check this series out this Wednesday.

Prefer the single issues? We've got all the back issues in stock as well, 1-13, of GREEN ARROW as well.

BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS & ALEX MALEEV'S NEW MOON KNIGHT SERIES CONTINUES TO ROCK US AS ISSUE #3 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY!

MISSED 1 & 2 ? WE'VE GOT COPIES IN STOCK TO CATCH YOU UP

moonknight3

Gotta tell you, folks, putting aside my totally biased fandom for the Moon Knight character (what can I say? I always thought he was awesome!), the new MOON KNIGHT series is probably the best incarnation of the character we have seen to date. Bendis and Maleev are doing a fantastic job on this one, and are crafting what's looking to be one of the best new Marvel series of 2011.

The current take on Moon Knight is that his multiple personality disorder has gone full-blown, and he believes that he's fighting alongside the Avengers on the West Coast. Yup, inside his head, he believes that he's got Spider-man, Wolverine, Captain America, and more fighting at his side... and even goes as far as trying to mimic their powers when fighting bad guys, and well, as you can guess: it makes for some crazy storytelling.

The fractured mind of Marc Spector has always provided for a compelling take on the whole vigilante thing, but this new twist is the best yet, and with the crazy-talented creative team of BENDIS and MALEEV (the folks who brought us other amazing books like SPIDER-WOMAN, SCARLET, and their critically-acclaimed run on DAREDEVIL) on this one, it makes for one of the best books on the stands.

Missed issues 1 & 2? Don't sweat it, we've got copies of both in stock to get you caught up to this week's issue #3!

LOCKE & KEY HC VOL 4 KEYS TO THE KINGDOM HITS THIS WEDNESDAY, AND LOCKE & KEY CROWN OF SHADOWS VOL 3 HITS SOFTCOVER

The writer of THE CAPE's killer ghost story series continues

lockekeyhc4

We're huge fans of JOE HILL's LOCKE & KEY, and it's quickly become one of our favorite series on the stands here at Third Eye, with each installment getting better than the last.

Locke and Key delives what's quite possibly one of the best ghost stories in any medium that we've ever seen. There's so many layers to the book, and it's that very unique brand of horror that manages to really get inside your brain.

The story of Locke and Key begins with a murder in a family, which leads the surviving members of the family to relocate to the family estate of Keyhouse, where they quickly discover that the house is not what it appears to be, with a demon living within the bowels of it's realm, and then, from there, the story comes together, stretching from all corners of the world that Joe Hill has built with Locke and Key.

One of the best comics out, we can't recommend this one enough, and if you've been enjoying series like MORNING GLORIES, with their supernatural mystery-slant, you'll LOVE Locke and Key.

We've got all the previous volumes in stock to catch you up to this week's book 4.

For those of you already digging this one, we know you'll be popping by for volume 4 this Wednesday.

RED SKULL #1 BEGINS THE LIMITED SERIES WHICH DELIVERS THE DEFINITIVE ORIGINS OF THE RED SKULL. FROM THE WRITER WHO BROUGHT YOU MAGNETO TESTAMENT

redskull1

Greg Pak, the writer of MAGNETO TESTAMENT, is returning to bring us another defining villain story with RED SKULL, this Wednesday.

MAGNETO TESTAMENT still stands as one of the definitive MAGNETO stories, and we're very intrigued to see what kind of backstory Pak brings to the Marvel Universe's most vile villain.

The chilling creation of it's greatest monster, and Captain America's greatest enemy. As Berlin descends into chaos and ruin, sinister forces are on the rise.. and the men who will form the Nazi Party ascend to power. Against this tragic backdrop of history, a boy comes of age... Johann Schmidt. An orphan, a thug, and an urchin -- Johan has nothing... and how far would he go for power will change the world.

Greg Pak, writer of MAGNETO TESTAMENT brings to life the twisted birth of the Red Skull.

PALMIOTTI & GRAY, THE TEAM BEHIND JONAH HEX, THE TATTERED MAN and MORE DELIVER A ONE-SHOT WHICH MIXES SPAGHETTI WESTERNS, DOCTOR WHO, AND SCI-FI AWESOMENESS INTO ONE KILLER READ

trailblazerogn

Palmiotti and Gray are two of the most under-rated comics creators on the stands today, delivering some of the most compelling, and well-done comics we're reading.

So, when we heard they were going to be doing some assorted one-shot graphic novellas this summer, we were pretty stoked. The first one they kicked out of the park was TATTERED MAN, which we freakin' LOVED. And, now, this Wednesday, they deliver TRAILBLAZER, which looks like a mix of Sergio Leone Spaghetti Westerns, and DOCTOR WHO. Time-travel, and old West justice mixed with sci-fi makes for one hell of a ride, and this book is an excellent read.

The story of TRAILBLAZER illustrates a modern Western science fiction story about a hired killer who turns in evidence against an employer for the murder of the woman who raised him. The government must then shield their star informant by enacting Operation Trailblazer, a witness protection program that uses not only location but time travel as well in order ot keep their charges safe. As the assassin adjusts to his new life in the Old West ,he soon finds that no matter when or where he is the future is dead set in coming back to haunt him.

Check it out this Wednesday!

FEAR ITSELF: UNCANNY X-MEN #540 - NO ONE STOPS THE JUGGERNAUT!

UNCANNYXMEN540

All I can say about FEAR ITSELF and the X-MEN is this: How awesome is the JUGGERNAUT'S armor with the new power of the Worthy imbued into it? And, how awesome is that armor going to look when Colossus ends up getting the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak?

This four part story arc that ties into FEAR ITSELF begins this Wednesday in UNCANNY X-MEN #540, and we're more pumped for UNCANNY X-MEN than we've been in quite some time. Not only does the classic X-Men foe, the JUGGERNAUT, have his sights set on destroying his long-time love/hate enemies, the X-Men, but this is also the storyline we've seen many rumors of where Colossus is supposedly getting the Juggernaut's armor.

PLUS: From what we understand, the events of FEAR ITSELF play a role in what leads up to the big X-MEN SCHISM storyline which is on the horizon.

This one's going to kick-ass, make sure not to miss it this Wednesday!

WOLVERINE & BLACK CAT CLAWS 2 #1 - J. MICHAEL LINSNER TEAMS WITH JIMMY PALMIOTTI & JUSTIN GRAY FOR THIS KILLER LIMITED SERIES

wolverineblackcatclaws21

You know, we've gotta shout this one out for one reason and one reason only: it's Linsner, and Linsner's art is ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS top notch. Seriously, his work on his own CRY FOR DAWN series, has always been a favorite of our's, and we're stoked to see him returning to WOLVERINE and the BLACK CAT with this follow up to his CLAWS series from a few years back (available now in graphic novel here at Third Eye).

Palmiotti, Gray, and Linsner return to right where their classic CLAWS storyline left off to bring us an all-new tale of action, intrigue, and loads of violence. Wolverine, and Black Cat are brought face to face with the murderous Arcade and his sidekick White Rabbit, when the two maniacs escape from their exile in the Savage Land.

A killer self-contained read, featuring the AMAZING art of Linsner, check this one out if you dig just plain awesome art.

BLUE ESTATE #4 - THE NEXT ISSUE OF IMAGE'S MODERN DAY CRIME NOIR MASTERPIECE CONTINUES! IF QUENTIN TARANTINO WROTE COMICS, THEY'D BE BLUE ESTATE.

blueestate4

Blue Estate is one of my favorite new Image books to come out this year. It's really a fascinating title, with a compelling story that doesn't try too hard to be innovative, and ends up coming off as more innovative and interesting than most books on the stands.

This modern day crime noir story has more in common with the sharp dialogue of a movie like Jackie Brown, or Pulp Fiction than it does the bleak world of classic crime noir. And, I think that's why we dig it. While crime noir in comics is well-represented already by fantastic titles like CRIMINAL, Blue Estate carves out it's own unique niche as a crime title with a contemporary spin, and we love it for that.

In a world where vicious criminals act like respectable businessmen, Hollywood starlets feign weakness to gain power, and has-been action movie actors play the role of loving husbands while plotting to murder their wives... Blue Estate doesn't pack any punches.

The story follows the seedy underworld of Hollywood, as private detectives are neurotics who use twitter as their primary way of tracking a suspect, and where losing your luster at the box office can lead you to working with the Russian Mob.

Missed the first few issues? We've got 1-3 in stock to catch you up to this week's #4

KICK-ASS NOW AVAILABLE IN TRADE PAPERBACK THIS WEDNESDAY! IF YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THE TRADE ON THIS ONE, NOW'S YOUR CHANCE! AN AWESOME READ!

kickasstpb

What more can we say about KICK-ASS that hasn't already been said? One of our favorite series in the last few years, MARK MILLAR, writer of OLD MAN LOGAN, and countless other fantastic reads delivered this as one of his most interesting titles yet, and while the movie did a solid job of translating the world of KICK-ASS to the screen.. nothing quite matches up to the magic of the book.

There's a genuine mean streak that runs through the comic version of KICK-ASS that the movie lacks, and we really feel that's what MAKES the book.

If you've still yet to read KICK-ASS, and you love just plain good comics, we can't stress it enough: READ THIS TITLE.

Seriously, ask us at the shop why we think you need to check this out, and we'll give you a dozen reasons. Clever, loads of heart, and full of all the blood, guts, and other fun stuff we all love and enjoy in comics, KICK-ASS is one of a kind, and we can't recommend it enough.

STAFF PICKS

STEVE: WITCH DOCTOR #1 - What a killer concept, Image does it again, with a refreshing, and interesting new series that has us hooked right from the start.

TRISH: WITCH DOCTOR #1 - I know, I know, we try to go for different picks, but this was REALLY cool. Definitely in the running for one of my favorite new Image titles.

TORMA: FF #5 - I can't begin to properly describe in a paragraph how awesome this book has been. All I can say is if you're even remotely a Marvel fan, READ IT.

TONY (PRINCE FREDERICK): VENOM #4 - I'm totally loving this new take on the VENOM character, and the twist with Flash is great. Also, the writing and art team on this is one of the best in the business right now.
