ultimates1a

Here's one I am super excited for, folks, the debut of the first new ULTIMATES title. And, after the kick-assness of ULTIMATE FALLOUT, and it's precursor, the DEATH OF ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN story arc, we've been getting more and more amped for the new line of ULTIMATE titles.

I've had a chance to take a peak at some pages from this one, and I gotta tell you: this is the best ULTIMATES title yet. I haven't been this stoked about the ULTIMATE UNIVERSE since the original MARK MILLAR and BRYAN HITCH run of ULTIMATES. And, with two more killer ULTIMATE titles on the way in the form of ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN and ULTIMATE X-MEN, we really feel that there's a sense of excitement surrounding the ULTIMATE UNIVERSE that hasn't been found since the early days of it's launch.

Whether you've jumped aboard the ULTIMATE line with the recent ULTIMATE FALLOUT arc, or if you've never read any of the titles before, or heck, if you're just a fan who fell off around the time that JEPH LOEB came on board with ULTIMATES 3, then now is the time to jump back on.

This is a very accessible, and kick-ass jumping on point for the ULTIMATE UNIVERSE, and we feel that ULTIMATES stands out as a great example of how awesome things are going to be.

WHAT IS THE ULTIMATE MARVEL UNIVERSE? It's essentially an alternate MARVEL UNIVERSE where things are given a much more realistic, and cutting edge feel. A big change from many comics is that when a character dies in the ULTIMATE UNIVERSE, they stay dead. There's no coming back from certain death. Other things that go down in the ULTIMATE UNIVERSE are the similarities between the recent Marvel films like IRON MAN, THOR, CAPTAIN AMERICA, and AVENGERS. In other words, the AVENGERS are seen as much more of a military operation, assembled to deal with the rising threat of super-humans.

We loved the original run of ULTIMATES, with Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch's incredible ULTIMATES and ULTIMATES II, and Bendis an Bagely's 100-issue run of ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN is still a favorite.

But, it wasn't until recently with ULTIMATE FALLOUT and DEATH OF ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN, that the ULTIMATE UNIVERSE captivated us the way it did once before.

Now, we're totally amped about this brand new direction for the ULTIMATE U.

If you've ever just wanted to read a kick-ass AVENGERS comic, then this is the book for you, folks. It's a fresh start, as the red-hot writer JONATHAN HICKMAN (writer behind FF, THE RED WING, and S.H.I.E.L.D) delivers the freshest take on the Earth's Mightiest Heroes that we've seen in over 5 years.

Want a self-contained, kick-ass Marvel title to read? Start here, and prepare for the upcoming release of ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN.

But, listen, enough of my rambling, give it a shot this Wednesday. I'm so confident that you guys will love this book that if you don't like it, you can bring it back for store credit. But, folks, I'm telling you: Hickman is comics best kept secret right now, and this is going to be the book that blows him up in a big way.

KICK-ASS 2 #3 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY.. AND IT'S TOTALLY WORTH THE WAIT! WE. LOVE. THIS. COMIC. MISSED ISSUES 1 & 2 ? WE'VE GOT COPIES IN STOCK TO CATCH YOU UP TO THIS WEEK'S #3

Never Read the Series? Pick up the first trade paperback this Wednesday and find out why the comic is even better than the movie!

kickass23

You know, we are huge, huge, huge fans of the KICK-ASS comics. Heck, I'm a huge MARK MILLAR fan in general, but I really do love KICK-ASS. And, while the anticipation for the next issue is practically enough to kill me, I've gotta say: it's worth the wait every time.

By now, you're probably aware of KICK-ASS, or have at least seen the movie. And, you know, that it is a completely awesome, completely enthralling look at an ultra-violent, real world filled with amateur superheroes and now, super-villains. With the likable screw-up KICK-ASS in the starring role, trend-setting for an entire world of people who want to make the world a better.. or sometimes worse place.. for various reasons.

It really is a freakin' great comic, as it manages to blend action-packed storytelling, a wicked sense of humor, and a genuinely fascinating take on the superhero genre into one enjoyable comic.

You add in the fact that Millar is doing it with the superstar artist JOHN ROMITA JR, who literally makes every page crackle with pure frenetic comic book magic, and you're in for a real treat, I gotta tell you.

Now, if you aren't familiar with KICK-ASS, here's the quick summary of it: comic book loving teenager decides to become a superhero, buys a wet suit on eBay, gets his ass kicked, comes out of the hospital, gives it a go one more time, and in a moment of sheer luck, manages to actually take out some crooks... all while being video-taped on people's cell phones. The video hits Youtube, KICK-ASS becomes a huge internet sensation, and from there, the mafia gets mad... and well, we're soon introduced to a world of some severely messed up folks rocking costumes.. and that's the heroes.

Now, in the second series, KICK-ASS has learned that he's not only inspired an entire nation of wanna-be heroes, but also wanna-be villains.. and it's getting ugly.

Never read the series? We've got the trade paperback in stock, and can get you hooked up on that, or if you've already read the first series, you can hop aboard with issues 1 & 2 (in stock now), to catch up to this week's #3.

Folks, I love this book and I think you will too. There's no doubt in my mind. Especially if you're a fan of series like THE BOYS, IRREDEEMABLE, WATCHMEN, THE CAPE or heck, even some IMAGE stuff like INVINCIBLE, and CHEW.

THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES RETURN TO THEIR GRITTIER ROOTS IN TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #1, A BRAND NEW ONGOING SERIES FROM IDW PUBLISHING!

tmnt1a

Now, here's a series that you guys have been asking for for a very long time, and I am so totally stoked to give you the good news that it's arrived. And, folks: it's totally awesome.

This brand new ongoing series from IDW PUBLISHING, is written by the one and only KEVIN EASTMAN, the man responsible for bringing the Ninja Turtles to the page back in the '80s.. and, with Eastman's return, it's delivering the same kind of gritty, street-level storytelling that NINJA TURTLES once did many years ago.

Leonardo, Donatello, Michaelangelo, and Raphael have reunited to bring their ninja skills to the masses once again. And, along with them, we're going to see the return of many classic Turtles characters, ranging from Master Splinter, and April O'Neill to Casey Jones and, my personal favorite: The Rat King!

This one's guaranteed to be a big hit for IDW, and we recommend snagging a copy this Wednesday, as we're expecting only the highest in terms of awesomeness from the new Ninja Turtles series.

BRIGHTEST DAY AFTERMATH: SEARCH FOR SWAMP THING #3 CONCLUDES THE SEARCH FOR SWAMP THING, AND PAVES THE WAY FOR JOHN CONSTANTINE, SWAMP THING, AND MANY OTHERS AS WE NEAR THE DC RELAUNCH

bdaftermathsearch3

BRIGHTEST DAY was an instrumental piece in bringing many of the stars of the upcoming DC RELAUNCH back into the public consciousness. Geoff Johns re-invented characters like AQUAMAN, FIRESTORM, SWAMP THING, DEADMAN, and many others in a big way with BRIGHTEST DAY, and now, with his BRIGHTEST DAY AFTERMATH, DC has given the same treatment to these two long-absent DCU icons: Constantine and Swamp Thing.

One of the most interesting aspects of the DC RELAUNCH is the incorporation of certain VERTIGO characters into the main-line DCU continuity.

We've really enjoyed the SEARCH FOR SWAMP THING so far, and we're pretty excited to see how this one ends out.

Haven't been reading the SEARCH FOR SWAMP THING? We've got issues 1 & 2 in stock to catch you up, as well as all the graphic novels to catch you up on BRIGHTEST DAY.

FLASHPOINT WAVE 3 WRAPS UP FLASHPOINT PROJECT SUPERMAN #3, FLASHPOINT KID FLASH LOST #3, FLASHPOINT LOIS LANE & THE RESISTANCE #3, and FLASHPOINT HAL JORDAN #3 THIS WEDNESDAY

Missed any of these FLASHPOINT tie-ins? We've got the previous 2 issues to catch you up!

flashpointprojectsuperman3

Flashpoint is nearing it's conclusion, and with the final issue of the main FLASHPOINT series arriving next week at our special FLASHPOINT #5 / JUSTICE LEAGUE #1 midnight release, the last of the tie-ins to FLASHPOINT are also wrapping up.

This week, we're getting another quadruple threat of FLASHPOINT, and leading the charge is one of our favorite tie-ins thus far: FLASHPOINT PROJECT SUPERMAN.

Scott Snyder, who is one of the best damn new comic writers to come about in the last couple of years, has done a fantastic job of telling the tale of Superman in a FLASHPOINT world, and we're totally stoked to see how this one ends.

Also, dropping this week, we've got the final issues of FLASHPOINT LOIS LANE and the RESISTANCE, which has been totally rad, FLASHPOINT HAL JORDAN #3, another favorite, and then finally, FLASHPOINT KID FLASH LOST.

If you've missed any of the prior issues to any of these, we've got plenty of 1 & 2 in stock to catch you up to the final issues this week.

KEVIN SMITH returns to comics this Wednesday with the brand new KEVIN SMITH'S BIONIC MAN #1 - A brand new series from the film-maker behind MALLRATS, CLERKS & MORE

kevinsmithbionicman1

What comic fan doesn't love Kevin Smith? I mean, c'mon, now, how can we not give the man his props. And, not only does he make some of the funniest flicks around, whether it's his early work on CLERKS, MALLRATS and CHASING AMY, or his later work on stuff like JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK, and DOGMA, but he's also a pretty darn good comic book writer. Whether it was his killer DAREDEVIL: GUARDIAN DEVIL arc, or his work on BATMAN with WIDENING GYRE and CACOPHONY, Smith rocks.

And, he's writing comics again, and he's bringing '70s science fiction icon The BIONIC MAN with him. Smith re-imagines one of his favorite sci-fi icons in the 21st century in this brand new ongoing series, and we cannot wait to see where this one goes. The preview pages look phenomenal, and we're totally stoked to see what Smith has in store for us as he brings his knack for sharp dialogue, and clever plots to the world of STEVE AUSTIN.

UNCANNY X-FORCE #13 *DARK ANGEL SAGA PT 3* - THE THIRD INSTALLMENT IN THE MOST KICK-ASS UNCANNY X-FORCE ARC YET HITS THIS WEDNESDAY

uncannyxforce13

Every month, I rant and I rave about how much I think UNCANNY X-FORCE is like the most kick-ass comic book on the stands. Seriously. It is one of THE best. And, I'm telling you, Third Eye Faithful, the DARK ANGEL SAGA, which is the storyline that's currently running through the title proves again and again why UNCANNY X-FORCE is must-read material.

If you've been looking for a good spot to jump on board with UNCANNY X-FORCE, I'd recommend starting with the prologue to the DARK ANGEL SAGA in UNCANNY X-FORCE #10, and then catching up to this week's #13 from there. We do have all the issues of the DARK ANGEL in stock and available to catch you up.

Remender and the art team on this book pump pure energy into the title in a big way, and it totally recaptures everything you loved about some of those iconic '90s X-MEN story lines. I would venture to say that UNCANNY X-FORCE is the best X-Book since Joss Whedon's ASTONISHING X-MEN.

The current storyline, DARK ANGEL SAGA, is about how Arch-Angel has slowly begun to succumb to his DEATH persona, and is now at risk of being lost altogether. The X-Force must venture to the AGE OF APOCALYPSE, and find a cure.

As a kid who grew up reading AGE OF APOCALYPSE back in the day, I am really digging this storyline, and the revisiting of some of the iconic AGE OF APOCALYPSE characters like AoA Wolverine, Sabretooth, and more.

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: THE LEGEND OF DRIZZT #1 DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY COURTESY OF R.A SALVATORE and IDW PUBLISHING

AN ALL-NEW STORY AND PREQUEL TO THE UPCOMING DRIZZT NOVEL FROM RA SALVATORE!

drizzt1

We've been really impressed with many of IDW's recent offerings, and they continue to up their game this week with the brand new DUNGEONS & DRAGONS series, featuring the one, the only... DRIZZT.

Anyone who grew up reading the D&D books back in the day, knows DRIZZT. He's a badass sword-swinging Dark Elf who made the world of FORGOTTEN REALMS what it was.

And, now, he's starring in his own 5-issue limited series which serves as a prequel to the upcoming RA SALVATORE DRIZZT novel.

This is the first original comic book tale of DRIZZT, and folks, trust us: if you love fantasy, or sword & sorcery stuff ala Elric or World of Warcraft, you'll dig LEGEND OF DRIZZT.

THREE MAJOR BATMAN TITLES WRAP UP THIS WEDNESDAY, AS THE ROAD TO THE DC RELAUNCH NEARS IT'S END

BATMAN INCORPORATED #8, BATMAN THE DARK KNIGHT #5, and BATMAN GATES OF GOTHAM #5

batmantdk5

The relaunch is getting closer, and closer, Third Eye Faithful, and this week, more of DC's titles are winding down and setting up for their relaunched counter-parts.

This week we've got a full plate of BATMAN awesomeness, with BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT #5, which wraps up the current run of David Finch's incredible, and awesome BATMAN title (and yes, the interior art looks every bit as good as those covers).

We've also got BATMAN INCORPORATED #8, which rounds out Grant Morrison's current BATMAN INC arc, and prepares for the upcoming BATMAN INC #1.

And, then finally, a recent favorite, BATMAN GATES OF GOTHAM #5 brings it's storyline to a close, as Batman throws down with the Architect, and we see the downfall of a major Gotham family in the process.

I highly recommend GATES OF GOTHAM to anyone who's excited about Snyder's upcoming run on BATMAN with Greg Capullo. It's a great look ahead at things to come, while also laying the foundation for what we feel could be his take on Batman in the relaunch (although, this is pure speculation on my part).

THE PUNISHER #2 - GREG RUCKA'S NEW PUNISHER SERIES IS ONE OF THE BEST TAKES WE'VE SEEN ON THE CHARACTER SINCE GARTH ENNIS'S ORIGINAL MAX RUN

Missed #1? We've got copies in stock to catch you up!

punisher2

There's been many takes on THE PUNISHER throughout the years, but there are some takes that are so iconic, and so defining, that it's hard to top them. Mike Zeck, Garth Ennis, Rick Remender, Jason Aaron, Chuck Dixon. These are all names that we associate with the high points of THE PUNISHER. And, now, we have another name to add to that list.. Greg Rucka.

Greg Rucka first caught my attention with stuff like QUEEN and COUNTRY and GOTHAM CENTRAL, and most recently, his crime noir, STUMPTOWN. Now, he's bringing his own unique vision of the PUNISHER, and we love it.

This is a violent, violent book.. it's gritty, it's street-level, it's rooted in the much darker end of the MARVEL U. And, the way that Rucka writes the PUNISHER is perfectly.

The way that Rucka handles the Punisher is as kind of a force of nature. An eventuality that is just waiting to happen if you're a criminal, or a law enforcement officer, working in New York. It's like earthquakes and the west coast, or scorpions in the desert... you might not see one for years, but one day: the Punisher will show himself, and you'll wish he hadn't.

The artist who handles this book is very good, and the way that The Punisher is shown is perfect. We're never given a clear look at the character, and everything happens fast, and brutal, just like you'd imagine it to.

Anyways, if you're even remotely interested in reading the Punisher, try Rucka's new ongoing PUNISHER series. It's fantastic.

Missed #1? We've got copies in stock to catch you up.

INFINITE KUNG FUN GN DELIVERS ONE OF THE FRESHEST INDIES OF 2011 THIS WEDNESDAY FROM TOP SHELF COMIX

infinitekungfu1

Here's a brand new indie that we're totally stoked for this week, and it's from one of our favorite publishers, TOP SHELF, who's put out some of the coolest stuff in recent memory (LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN, BLANKETS, BOX OFFICE POISON, act).

This stand-alone graphic novel delivers an action-packed, over-the-top read that has everything you love about a good Kung Fu movie, and then some.

In INFINITE KUNG FU, the Martial World is ruled by a mysterious emperor whose five armies are each headed by a cruel and highly skilled kung fu master. Lei Kung, a soldier in one of these armies, grows tired of his master's evil ways and seeks enlightenment elsewhere. However, he soon finds that he's been chosen as the one who will put an end to the emperor's tyrannical rule, personally! Allegiances are blurred, techniques are perfected, fists fly, limbs are lost, and blood vessels burst in this tale of furious rivals, supernatural masters, walking corpses, and above all, raging kung fu.

Kagan McLeod does a phenomenal job of balancing fantastic artwork, and fantastic storytelling to make for one of the best kung-fu comics we've ever read.

If you dug Matt Fraction's IMMORTAL IRON FIST, Brian Wood's FIGHT FOR TOMORROW, or even the sensibilities of something like SCOTT PILGRIM and SHARK KNIFE, you need to snag yourself a copy of INFINITE KUNG FU this Wednesday.

SUPERMAN BEYOND #0 - SPINNING OUT OF THE BATMAN BEYOND UNIVERSE, SUPERMAN BEYOND GETS HIS OWN SERIES WITH THIS WEDNESDAY'S SUPERMAN BEYOND #0

supermanbeyond0

I think you guys share the same kind of love we do for BATMAN BEYOND, and the universe it resides in, so I have a feeling you guys are just as pumped as we are to see a second title popping up to take place in the BATMAN BEYOND universe.

In SUPERMAN BEYOND, we're shown the adventures of The Man of Tomorrow in the DC Universe of the future. As Superman has been feeling his super-powers begin to decline, the Last Son of Krypton is called back into action once more to stop a villain that may be more powerful than any he's faced before.

We always loved the concept of Superman in the BATMAN BEYOND world, and we cannot wait to read this one on Wednesday.

This trade paperback collects the original UNDER THE RED HOOD story arc where Judd Winick first introduced Jason Todd back into the DCU.

In UNDER THE RED HOOD, Batman is confronted with a hidden face from the past... it's the return of the vigilante the Red Hood, who also happens to be Jason Todd, the second Robin, who was thought long dead. And, now, he's back, blood-thirsty, and looking for the person who put him in the grave: The Joker.

THE 11th DOCTOR MATERIALIZES THIS WEDNESDAY IN A VERY SPEIAL OVERSIZED 2011 ANNUAL FEATURING TOP NOTCH DOCTOR WHO TALENTS AND "ECHOES" writer JOSHUA HALE FIALKOV.

doctorwhoannual2011

It's no secret we're big-time DOCTOR WHO fans here at Third Eye, and whenever we see a new one-shot or annual featuring the DOCTOR, we've gotta give it some love.

In this oversized one-shot ANNUAL, we get three brand new stories featuring the writer of the creepy serial murder mystery ECHOES, as well as Doctor Who Magazine writer/artist Dan McDaid, and writer Matthew Dow Smith & artist Josh Adams.

Also, within is a very special prelude to the next story arc of the ongoing series by Tony Lee and Ben Templesmith, which continues in DOCTOR WHO #9.

ECHOES HC - ONE OF THE BEST HORROR COMICS WE'VE READ IN YEARS. BUY THIS BOOK!

echoeshc1

Here's a sleeper that really blew us away last year, and we consider to be one of the best horror comics of the last few years... ECHOES.. by up and coming writer Joshua Fiaklov (recently, he rocked it on SUPERMAN/BATMAN, and now he's on his way with the upcoming DC RELAUNCH title, I VAMPIRE).

ECHOES is a creepy, creepy, creepy book. It's the story of a young man named Brian Cohn who was learning to deal with the schizophrenia he inherited from his father, until one day, at his father's deathbed, he learns that he also inherited the trophies of his father's career as a serial killer. Now, he's in fear that he may have inherited more than his father's illness, and is on his way to the same ghastly future his father lived.

The less I say, the better, as this one is all about the surprise. But, folks, it is a creepy, dark tale of psychological horror that will haunt you.

Highly recommended if you're into horror comics, snag this one this week!

JONATHAN HICKMAN'S FF CONTINUES TO BE ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS ON THE STANDS AS ARTIST STEVE EPTING RETURNS THIS WEDNESDAY ON FF #8

ff8

Issue after issue, Jonathan Hickman continues to impress the heck out of me with FF. And, as I've said before: I was never a big Fantastic Four fan until he first came on the book.

You guys have heard me rant and rave about this one enough by now, so I won't go into all the things that've really turned FF into such an awesome read. I'll just say this: it's one of my top 5 favorite superhero comics I read every month. And, trust me, folks, there's some fierce competition for those top 5 spots right now with all the great series out.

The War of Four Cities kicks into high gear with this week's FF #8, and the very talented artist STEVE EPTING returns to show us just how awesome Dr. Doom can really look.

If you're not reading FF, we've got all the issues in stock, going back to #1. I can't recommend it enough, so snag 'em, and catch up to one of the best books on the stands.

STAFF PICKS

STEVE: STUFF OF LEGEND THE JESTER'S TALE #1- One of our top favorites, folks, if you're not reading STUFF OF LEGEND yet, you need to get in the shop and remedy that right now.

TRISH: STUFF OF LEGEND THE JESTER'S TALE #1 - My favorite STUFF OF LEGEND installment yet. I know we try to make our picks different each week, but the Th3rd World crew knocked it out of the park this time.

TORMA: CAPTAIN AMERICA #2 - Brubaker and McNiven are delivering the single best CAPTAIN AMERICA I've ever read. Holy crap. This was good.

TONY (PRINCE FREDERICK): X-MEN SCHISM #3 - The X-Books are getting so good with SCHISM, I cannot wait for the new titles.
