THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS FOR WEDNESDAY 11/16/11

THE BIGGEST SUPERHERO BOOK ON THE STANDS ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH JUSTICE LEAGUE #3
Geoff Johns and Jim Lee have caught lightning in a bottle with their incredible new ongoing JUSTICE LEAGUE series that serves as the flagship title of the DC NEW 52. Between Lee's incredible artwork, and Johns's top notch storytelling, they're putting together one of the most exciting books on the stands, in any genre.
The first arc of this new ongoing JUSTICE LEAGUE series serves as the literal foundation of the DC NEW 52, as it shows us the original League as they first come together, with a very fascinating insight into the way the team functions and operates with one another.
As always, Johns is on point with the balance of strong character moments, and rock-em sock-em action, and Jim Lee on a monthly title? How freakin' great is that? Seriously, we couldn't be more pleased with this book.
If you're reading any of the DC NEW 52, and not reading JUSTICE LEAGUE, you need to remedy that, as this is the center-piece of the NEW 52. Heck, if you're only going to read one DC book, then you need to hop on with JUSTICE LEAGUE, 'cause it's been phenomenal.
Missed issues 1 & 2? We've got copies of both in stock to catch you up to this Wednesday's #3.
INCREDIBLE HULK #2 SMASHES IT'S WAY INTO THIRD EYE THIS WEDNESDAY, AND CONTINUES TO PROVE WHY IT'S ONE OF THE BEST NEW MARVEL TITLES OF THE YEAR
Now, you guys already know: we're big fans of Jason Aaron, and we're big fans of Marc Silvestri. You put these two superstars together, and hot damn, you are in for a real treat.
It's been a long time since the Hulk has been this freakin' cool. I mean, like, a seriously long time since it's been this great. I think the last time that I really enjoyed the Hulk was circa the beginning of PLANET HULK, which kind of went in a strange direction near the tail-end of the run. But, man, it really started off awesome.
Aaron is bringing a brand new dynamic to the world of the Hulk, as we're shown a very Conan The Destroyer-esque take on the character. He's smart, but silent. Calculating and deadly, but not a villain. And, as always: Hulk just wants to be left alone.
But, he can't exactly do that when his other half, Bruce Banner, has split off into a Dr. Moreau-esque mad scientist who's making gamma sharks, and giant gorilla creatures in an attempt to recreate the Hulk.
A fantastic read with sharp dialogue, and loads of action, the new INCREDIBLE HULK book is awesome. Not reading it? Been a long time since you've tried the Hulk? No worries, 'cause it's a fantastic new series that's easy to jump onto without having a huge prior knowledge of what's gone on with the Hulk over the last few years.
Missed issue #1 of INCREDIBLE HULK? We've got plenty of copies in stock to catch you up on issue #2 this Wednesday.
SKULLKICKERS VOLUME 2: FIVE FUNERALS & A BUCKET OF BLOOD TRADE PAPERBACK HITS THIS WEDNESDAY!
NOT READING SKULLKICKERS? TRY THE FIRST TRADE PAPERBACK FOR $9.99.
IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, WE'LL LET YOU SWAP IT OUT.
IMAGINE "THE HANGOVER" MEETS "WORLD OF WARCRAFT" or "ARMY OF DARKNESS" MEETS DEADPOOL
We're totally stoked to say that the second volume of the hit IMAGE series SKULLKICKERS is hitting this Wednesday, and we know that many of you who already picked up volume 1 in trade paperback are eagerly awaiting this one.
Not reading SKULLKICKERS? Let me tell you why I love this series... first off, there's not that many GOOD comics these days set in a fantasy world setting like SKULLKICKERS is, and I think that's a niche that needs to be filled, and no one is doing it better than SKULLKICKERS. Secondly, the artwork, Huang and Coats are freakin' phenoms with this book, bringing it to life before your eyes, and making the whole thing look like a slick, dynamic film brought to life. And, third, the premise... which is amazing, Jim Zubkavich brings a fine balance of slapstick humor ala ARMY OF DARKNESS, buddy comedy dynamics like THE HANGOVER or LETHAL WEAPON, and loads of sword-and-sorcery carnage to the book that really makes it something special.
We can't get enough of the series, which follows the adventures of two nameless mercenaries through a D&D-style fantasy world crawling with the undead, loads of monsters, and crazy treasures.
If you've never read the book, come on by, snag a copy of SKULLKICKERS vol.1, and give it a go for only $9.99. We have a feeling you'll be glad you did.
GODZILLA LEGENDS #1 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY DELIVERING A FIVE-ISSUE LIMITED SERIES, WITH EACH ISSUE EXPLORING ONE OF GODZILLA'S LEGENDARY MONSTROUS FOES
IDW has been straight up killing it on their line of GODZILLA comics, and while the ongoing series KINGDOM OF MONSTERS is still rolling (which we have the first trade paperback as well as the back issues of in stock), their recent GANGSTERS AND GOLIATHS limited series by CHEW creator JOHN LAYMAN has finished. And, that means there's a giant, monster-shaped void for us Godzilla heads, right?
Well, not for long, 'cause IDW's kicking off a brand new 5-part limited series, and this one sounds super rad, 'cause each issue will be focusing on one of Godzilla's legendary monstrous foes.
The first issue? Anguirus vs. Destroyah!
If you're a fan of zany monster movies, or anything else Kaiju, then you know that you need this in your life.
SCOTT SNYDER'S BATMAN #3 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY CONTINUING ONE OF OUR TOP FAVORITE DC NEW 52 TITLES, AND QUITE POSSIBLY, THE BEST BATMAN BOOK WE'VE READ IN YEARS
Scott Snyder is the man. Seriously. And, his brand new DC NEW 52 ongoing title, is quite possibly my favorite of the NEW 52. This book is THAT good. The combination of Snyder's pitch perfect writing on the character with Greg Capullo's reinvigorated artwork makes this one a top of the stack read EVERY week it comes out, and I can't stress that enough.
Imagine a mash-up of Jim Lee's BATMAN: HUSH, Frank Miller's early BATMAN work (YEAR ONE, DARK KNIGHT RETURNS), and the aesthetics of Bruce Timm's work on BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES... and that sums up the iconic feel of the flagship BATMAN title.
The story follows a mysterious age-old illuminati that's been behind-the-scenes in Gotham for quite some time that wants Bruce Wayne DEAD. And, of course, the mystery is laid on deep, as we're given the perfect balance of Batman, his supporting cast, familiar villains, and new characters.
Folks, you couldn't ask for a better comic from any publisher right now, and trust us: we know Snyder's track record. He's a beast. There's only great things in store for this title.
Missed 1 & 2 ? You know we've got copies to catch you up to this week's #3.
FEAR ITSELF #7.3 - THE FINAL OF THE FEAR ITSELF EPILOGUES ARRIVES THIS WEEK WITH IRON MAN VS. ODIN
MATT FRACTION rounds out his FEAR ITSELF epic with the final of the FEAR ITSELF epilogues in FEAR ITSELF #7.3 this Wednesday. And, this one, Third Eye Faithful, is a big one.
See, the Avengers, in particularly, Iron Man and Cap, aren't too pleased with the secrets Odin kept, and the lengths he was willing to go to keep Asgard afloat... and, now, we're going to be seeing the showdown we've been waiting for since those last few issues of FEAR ITSELF... Tony Stark vs. Odin.
With Fraction and Larocca both handling the creative chores on this one, you know it's gonna be a freakin' great read, and while I was a little disappointed with the whole LMD thing in 7.1, I loved what they did with the Thor one in 7.2
Missed FEAR ITSELF 1-7.2? We've got copies of each in stock and available to catch you up on what was Marvel's biggest storyline since CIVIL WAR.

CARBON GREY ORIGINS #1 BRINGS THE RETURN OF DARK HORSE'S ALTERNATE HISTORY STEAMPUNK ACTION SAGA
CARBON GREY was one of our favorite IMAGE launches last year, and this new 2-part PREQUEL is a great way to jump onto the series and find out what it's all about.
Wanna go back to the very beginning, and check out the first limited series? We've got the trade paperback in stock which collects the whole thing, AND, it's only $9.99.
What is CARBON GREY?  It's a bold, dynamic steampunk kind of sci-fi story that features a lineage of women raised to be royal guardians and assassins. Of course, all kinds of corruption, and horrors await in the complex world of CARBON GREY, and that's what the ORIGINS one-shot explores.
An awesome read, if you're a fan of stuff like LADY MECHANIKA, you'll really dig it.
VALVE PRESENTS: THE SACRIFICE AND OTHER STEAM-POWERED STORIES VOL.1 GRAPHIC NOVEL EXPLORES STORIES SET IN THE WORLDS OF PORTAL, TEAM FORTRESS, AND LEFT 4 DEAD.
Like many of you, we're big gamers here at Third Eye, and totally dig many of the games that VALVE puts out, like PORTAL, TEAM FORTRESS, HALF LIFE, ect. And, this is why we're totally stoked to clue you guys in on this great collection of comics that explore the worlds of games like LEFT 4 DEAD, TEAM FORTRESS, PORTAL, HALF LIFE and more, expanding upon their stories, their characters, and their environments.
Make sure you snag a copy this Wednesday at Third Eye!
THE WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERNS ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY IN GRAPHIC NOVEL FORMAT, COLLECTING THE STORYLINE THAT EXPLAINS SINESTRO'S RETURN TO THE CORPS IN THE NEW 52
Geoff Johns has been making magic on GREEN LANTERN for a few years now, and shortly after BLACKEST NIGHT, he took things to a whole new level with his WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERNS saga that totally sets up all the current stuff going on in the GREEN LANTERN titles in the NEW 52.
The biggest question we find ourselves being asked here at Third Eye from many of you just picking up on the new GL series is: when did Sinestro rejoin the Corps, and why?
Well, the redemption of Sinestro as a character began back before BLACKEST NIGHT, but it's been a long road. However, it was the WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERNS where we actually saw the steps being put into place that stripped Hal of his ring, and returned Sinestro to the Corps.
A fantastic read, WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERNS is another slab of GREEN LANTERN excellence from Johns and Mahnke, and we highly recommend snagging a copy if you've been enjoying stuff like BLACKEST NIGHT, THE SINESTRO CORPS WARS, AGENT ORANGE, and so on.
THE BLUE TEAM ASSEMBLES THIS WEDNESDAY IN THREE X-MEN: REGENESIS TIE-INS, INCLUDING NEW MUTANTS #34WHICH FEATURES THE RETURN OF FAN-FAVORITE BLINK
ALSO DROPPING UNDER THE BLUE TEAM BANNER ARE X-MEN #21 & GENERATION HOPE #13
I come from an era that many of you guys grew up in as well, and if you're as stoked as I am about Blink's return, then you know exactly when I'm talking about. A fan-favorite during her time in AGE OF APOCALYPSE, and then later, in the alternate-universe EXILES series, Blink is a character that people have been asking to see the return of for years.
Now, this Wednesday, as part of the X-MEN REGENESIS crossover that's running through the X-MEN books, and setting up the Blue Teams and Gold Teams, Blink returns in NEW MUTANTS #34, and we are totally stoked.
This is a great opportunity to jump onto one of the more underrated X-Titles, as you'd only need NEW MUTANTS #33 and NEW MUTANTS #34 to get caught up, and we've got NEW MUTANTS #33 in stock to catch you up.

WARREN ELLIS'S CAPTAIN SWING TRADE PAPERBACK HITS THIS WEDNESDAY DELIVERING A STEAMPUNK HORROR STORY YOU'LL LOVE
CAPTAIN SWING was one of our favorites from AVATAR PRESS (NEONOMICON, CROSSED, SUPERGOD) last year, and is another fine addition to the impressive library of WARREN ELLIS works out there.
Ellis who does fantastic work already on the steampunky FREAKANGELS, and has done amazing things on series like PLANETARY and TRANSMETROPOLITAN, kicks ass in this grisly tale of an electrical romance of a pirate utopia thwarted. In the London of 1830, newly-minted law officer Charlie Gravel keeps seeing things he's not supposed to: a crooked Bow Street Runner with a flintlock revolver, high-flying vessels that are not supposed to fly, and the violent Scientific Phantasamagoria popularly known as Spring-Heeled Jack. With the coming of Captain Swing and his Electric Pirates, history shall never be the same.
This is a fantastic graphic novel crackling with stunning woodcut-style artwork by Raulo Caceres, and bringing a very WARREN ELLIS and his mad science approach by way of LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN with a dash of LADY MECHANIKA thrown in.
You'll love the book, Third Eye Faithful. Snag it this Wednesday.
INDIE COMICS LEGEND PAUL GRIST (KANE) DEBUTS A BRAND NEW KIND OF SUPERHERO ON IMAGE COMICS'S MUDMAN THIS WEDNESDAY IN MUDMAN #1
Here's a cool one that caught our eye this week, and we have to admit: the title is what caught us. Well, then we saw it was by Paul Grist, who did some incredible work on the indie comix police drama KANE for quite some time.
This brand new series kicking off on IMAGE COMICS this Wednesday, is the story of Owen Craig, a high school student who's really gotten some hard knocks. He's been run over, caught detention, and his dad's been taken prisoner by armed bank robbers... oh, and his body is now turning into mud.
I know, it sounds ridiculous, and this is why I'm intrigued. Plus, PAUL GRIST? He rules.
Snag a copy this week at Third Eye!
WONDER WOMAN #3 CONTINUES THE KILLER DC NEW 52 TAKE ON WONDER WOMAN THAT WE'RE TOTALLY DIGGING
Dude, Brian Azzarello's new WONDER WOMAN series is NO JOKE. Seriously, he and Cliff Chiang are kicking out one of the best DC NEW 52 titles on the stands, and we really think more of you need to be catching up on this one.
There's a very dark, mythological horror tone here that kind of gives you the aesthetics and tone of something like the video game GOD OF WAR, but mixed into the DCU.
The scoop? Well, Zeus is up to his old tricks, and he's sired another child with an ordinary human girl. And, of course, his wife's not too happy about this, and sends Strife to find and kill this woman and her child before it's born.
So, of course, Wonder Woman gets involved. But, apparently, Hippolyta, the queen of the Amazons, has kept a secret from her daughter all her life -- and when it's revealed... this will shatter Wonder Woman's life like the clay from which she came.
Awesome read, if you're not on this one yet, catch up with WONDER WOMAN #1 and #2 this Wednesday, as we've got both issues in stock.
THE NEXT CHAPTER OF SPIDER-MAN'S LIFE BEGINS, AS THE VULTURE RETURNS IN AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #674
Dan Slott has been making AMAZING SPIDER-MAN one of the best monthly Marvel titles for almost a year straight now, and after the epic awesomeness of SPIDER ISLAND, we're pretty pumped to see what he has in store next.
And, you know, by bringing back one of Spidey's most iconic, and classic foes, it shows he's off to a good start. As the costs of Spider Island continue to rise, the Vulture returns picking the carcass of what was once dubbed Spider Island.
Fantastic artwork, fantastic storytelling, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is definitely one of Marvel's top absolute must-reads right now.
This week's ASM #674 is a fantastic jumping on point, or if you prefer, you can go back and start with ASM #666, and catch up from there, 'cause we've got all the chapters of SPIDER ISLAND in stock and available now.
THE NEXT INSTALLMENT OF JASON AARON'S INCREDIBLE VERTIGO SERIES "SCALPED" ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH SCALPED VOL.8 YOU GOTTA SIN TO GET SAVED
SCALPED is probably tied with AMERICAN VAMPIRE as our favorite VERTIGO series running right now, 'cause lets face it: they're both freakin' amazing. But, since SCALPED has been running longer, and has managed to continue to be consistently great all the way through, we'll give the edge to SCALPED.
This brand new trade paperback collects issues #43-49, and continues to pursue the fascinating dynamic between Red Crow, Dash, and more.
Never read SCALPED? Pick up volume 1, and get started, 'cause it's one of the best books on the stands. What's it about? SCALPED is a critically acclaimed crime/western series which focuses on the Oglala Lakota inhabitants of the fictional Prairie Rose Indian Reservation in modern-day South Dakota, as they grapple with organized crime, rampant poverty and alcoholism, local politics and the preservation of their cultural identity.
The series reminds me a lot of THE WIRE in regards to how various characters will change direction mid-way through, and you'll go from liking a character to hating a character in no time flat. The complex development of the characters, and the shades of grey, where there's no clear-cut good or bad guys, makes SCALPED a fascinating read. Every one of these characters has a story to be told, and every one of their stories is just as fascinating as the next.
I highly recommend snagging volume 1 and checking out the series, if you haven't yet.
LEGION OF MONSTERS #2 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY, DELIVERING A NEXTWAVE-ESQUE TAKE ON THESE QUIRKY CLASSICS... A MUST-READ
FROM "LOVESTRUCK" WRITER DENNIS HOPELESS
LEGION OF MONSTERS is one of my new personal favorites, as I was totally blown away by the first issue. This book channels the same kind of over-the-top fun, ridiculous awesomeness, and crazy energy as stuff like Rick Remender's FRANKENCASTLE and WARREN ELLIS'S NEXTWAVE.
In fact, I'd go as far to say if you're a fan of either of those titles, you'd love LEGION OF MONSTERS. I mean, plus: ELSA BLOODSTONE teaming up with her sworn enemies? How rad is that?
And, Juan Doe's art is SICK in this book. He does a killer job of really bringing a vibrant, and unique look to the title.
Missed #1? We've got copies in stock to catch you up.

WALKING DEAD #91 - WALKING DEAD CONTINUES TO BE A MONTHLY FAVORITE AT THIRD EYE
You know, we go through this every month, right? We try to avoid dropping spoilers about how awesome the new WALKING DEAD is, and then we tell you how badly you need to be reading this series if you're not already.
Well, all I'm going to say is: yes, and yes. WALKING DEAD continues, after 91 issues, to STILL be one of the best comic books I read every month.
If you're not reading it, snag a copy of volume 1 in trade paperback for just $9.99, and I can pretty much promise you that you won't be disappointed.
STAFF PICKS
ANNAPOLIS
STEVE: AVENGING SPIDER-MAN #1 I grew up with Joe Mad's art on BATTLE CHASERS and X-MEN.. so this is a given. It was a freakin' awesome read.. great art, great story, can't recommend it enough.
TRISH: BATWOMAN #3 - JH WILLIAMS is so amazing and the story on this one continues to pull me in. But I have to admit, the sheer eye candy factor here of Williams's incredible art is what keeps me coming back.
TORMA: MARVEL POINT ONE - The question here is: HOW MUCH AWESOME CAN YOU FIT IN ONE COMIC? Jeez.. the Phoenix, the Defenders, the Scarlet Spider, Age of Apocalypse... and that's only half of it!
 PRINCE FREDERICK
TONY : THE PENGUIN PAIN AND PREJUDICE #2 -  This one has been really good with some amazing artwork by Szymon Kudranski and a very, very dark story that really showcases Penguin as a threat.
GEORGE: BATWOMAN #3 - I would buy this book for the artwork alone, but the story had me absolutely floored this month.
All right, Third Eye Faithful! We'll see you guys around the shop this Wednesday.
