THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS FOR WEDNESDAY 12/28/11

AQUAMAN #4 LEADS THE PACK AS A KILLER WEEK OF DC NEW 52 TITLES ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY
Aquaman has quickly made itself one of the breakout hits of the DC NEW 52, and it’s a testament to how awesome this new take is on the vastly underrated hero, by how highly anticipated this week’s issue #4.
Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis, the creative team behind the now classic BLACKEST NIGHT, are working some true magic as they use a blend of subtle humor, and modernized classic superhero storytelling to turn the world of AQUAMAN into one of the DCU’s most exciting places.
While I know there’s still a handful of you who have yet to be convinced of how damn cool the new AQUAMAN series is, trust us: you will see the light soon enough. :) If you’ve ever doubted the King of the Seas, now is the time to give him a shot, ’cause Johns is kicking ass in the same kind of way he did when he gave Hal Jordan a shot in the arm, and turned GREEN LANTERN into one of the DCU’s biggest books.
The first arc has been keeping us hooked, as it brings a very HP LOVECRAFT-esque bad guy, THE TRENCH, to the forefront, as Dagon/Cthulhu-like baddies from the depths are consuming any and every living thing that stands in their way.
Totally awesome stuff here, make sure you hop aboard this one while it’s still early into the run.
Missed issues 1-3? We’ve got copies of each in stock to get you caught up this week.

CROSSED BADLANDS: OPENING SALVO – THE NEW ONGOING CROSSED SERIES FROM GARTH ENNIS (THE BOYS, PREACHER) & JACEN BURROWS (CROSSED, NEONOMICON) BEGINS THIS WEDNESDAY FOR ONLY $1.99
FIND OUT WHY THIS IS THE MOST UNRELENTING SURVIVAL HORROR BOOK ON THE STANDS
A MUST FOR FANS OF “WALKING DEAD”
A Great Jumping On Point!
If you’re a fan of horror comics, or heck, just a huge WALKING DEAD fan, then you need some CROSSED in your life. This is, by far, the most extreme, most unrelenting, and most compelling horror comic on the stands. And, while WALKING DEAD is pretty much untouchable in terms of it’s awesomeness, CROSSED goes to the places that WALKING DEAD doesn’t.
This series has been keeping us coming back for more, and more since it’s debut, and while we have totally loved FAMILY VALUES and PSYCHOPATH, it’s Garth Ennis and Jacen Burrow’s original CROSSED maxi series that still remains our favorite. And, this is why we’re totally pumped about the upcoming debut of the first official CROSSED ongoing series with CROSSED: BADLANDS.
What is CROSSED? Crossed is a survival horror story about an infection that causes those infected to: a) sport a Cross-like rash on their faces, and b) commit horrible, terrible acts of pure evil and depravity. The thing that makes the world of CROSSED so terrifying? The CROSSED can still think, plot, and plan.. unlike zombies, these raving maniacs retain any skills they once had (firearms, driving, ect.), and their brains are able to still put together devious ways of inflicting pain and misery upon those unlucky enough to survive.
While CROSSED is sure to appeal to the gorehounds out there, there’s also a very compelling and strongly written story that carries the series, and keeps it interesting. It’s the powerful character development of the survivors in CROSSED that keeps us invested in the story, and makes it much more than just another horror comic.
All in all, this is one of the best books on the stands, and with this week’s CROSSED BADLANDS, you can jump on.
What’s BADLANDS? Badlands is a brand new ongoing series set in the world of CROSSED, which will follow groups of survivors as they struggle to survive and endure in the world of Crossed. With the original CROSSED creative team of GARTH ENNIS and JACEN BURROWS coming on board to helm this one, you know it’s going to be a blockbuster and a half, and we cannot wait til this Wednesday to kick things off with the OPENING SALVO one-shot #0 issue.
This special one-shot is limited to only 5,000 copies, and is a must for anyone who is a CROSSED fan, or is curious about jumping onto the series without having gone back and read the previous installments.
A perfect jumping on point, BADLANDS is going to be one of the raddest new reads of the summer, and we cannot wait.

UNCANNY X-MEN #3 - THE BLUE TEAM CONTINUES TO SHOW THE MARVEL UNIVERSE WHY THEY RIVAL THE AVENGERS IN SHEER POWER AS THEY GO FACE TO FACE WITH MR SINISTER AND A LEGION OF CELESTIAL SPACE GODS!
MUST READ STUFF
I am so stoked about the stuff Marvel has going on with their X-titles right now, and UNCANNY X-MEN has been proving itself to be the flagship of the X-Titles again and again.
Make no mistake, this is definitely the bigger-than-life, loads of stuff getting blown up, and tons of major Marvel characters, kind of X-Men book, and we’re loving every second of it. It’s like classic arcs like MUTANT MASSACRE and INFERNO have been boiled down into a monthly ongoing, and upgraded for the 21st century.
If you hadn’t already been aware, UNCANNY X-MEN is the core BLUE TEAM book, which is the line-up of all-star mutants that Cyclops has put together to not just show the world that the X-Men are on the same par as heavyweights like the AVENGERS, but that they are BETTER. In fact, this is Cyclops’s very Magneto-esque way of saying to the world: do not mess with mutants.
And, it’s pretty damn cool. We’re totally pumped about the third issue, as the kick-off arc which has brought a recently revitalized, and totally rad Mr. Sinister back as a major villain, continues to impress.
Fantastic stuff coming out of the X-Universe from Marvel these days, if you’re not reading UNCANNY X-MEN and WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN, you’re missing out on two of the best monthly books on the stands.
Missed issues 1 & 2? We’ve got copies of both in stock to get you caught up.

WITCH DOCTOR: RESUSCITATION ONE-SHOT BRINGS BACK ONE OF OUR FAVORITE NEW IMAGE SERIES OF 2011 THIS WEDNESDAY!
NEVER READ WITCH DOCTOR? TRY THIS KILLER ONE-SHOT, AND FIND OUT WHY THIS IS A TRUE THIRD EYE FAVORITE
The Doctor is back! No, not THAT Doctor.. but, the one, and the only Doctor Vincent Morrow. And, we are totally stoked.
WITCH DOCTOR debuted last spring, and totally blew you and us away with it’s super-fresh concept, killer dialogue, and gorgeously repulsive artwork. The series was the first official non-Kirkman SKYBOUND (Kirkman’s publishing imprint) debut, and we can see why he chose this to sport the Skybound brand.
Seriously, we love WITCH DOCTOR, and now that it’s back with a brand new one-shot, WITCH DOCTOR: RESUSCITATION, we could not be more stoked.
Vincent Morrow, is what he likes to refer to as a ‘cunning man’, definitely not a Witch Doctor. And, he handles demonic possessions, horrors from the deep, and otherworldly maladies with the same kind of clinical and medical procedures that you’d see in HOUSE, M.D.
One part old school Lovecraftian horror, and one part medical procedural, WITCH DOCTOR is a great, unique read, and if you haven’t yet tried it, this Wednesday’s RESUSCITATION is a great one-shot to jump on board with.
What’s the scoop on RESUSCITATION? You wake up in a bathtub of ice with a surgical incision on your side, but the hospital says you’ve still got two kidneys! Where do you go for a second opinion? Where else but Dr. Vincent Morrow, the Witch Doctor! A tale of black magic and organ swapping, this great jumping on point for new readers is a must-buy.

ALL STAR WESTERN #4 – ONE OF THE BEST CULT HITS OF THE DC NEW 52 CONTINUES AS JONAH HEX AND DOCTOR ARKHAM PURSUE GOTHAM’S ORIGINAL MANIACS
You know, it’s no secret that I’ve been a long-time supporter and advocate of the incredible work that Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray have done on JONAH HEX for DC, and this is why I’m so stoked that their incredible take on the DCU’s gritty, unforgiving Old West, is being so well-received.
This brand new series brings the ultra-violent, blood and grit feel of Palmiotti & Gray’s best Hex work to the center stage, while at the same time incorporating some very neat tidbits for those of you who’re just plain big DCU fans.
The series is set in the Old West of Gotham City, and the first arc has the original Doctor Arkham hiring Jonah Hex to pursue the first serial killer of Gotham… and of course, in the background is the formation of Arkham Asylum. Through this, we’re shown an interesting criminal conspiracy that connects very nicely into some of the more recent BATMAN stuff seen in other Bat-books. It ties in very nicely, thematically, to the work that Scott Snyder and Grant Morrison have done on Batman, while also referencing Greg Rucka’s Crime Bible.
Toss in the incredible artwork of Moritat, who brings a unique, visceral, and raw energy feel to the world of Gotham’s Old West, and consider us hooked.
Missed 1-3? We’ve got copies of each in stock to catch you up.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: MICHELANGELO MICRO-SERIES #2 ONE-SHOT SPOTLIGHTS MICHELANGELO THIS WEDNESDAY
We are so into the current TMNT stuff from IDW it’s not even funny. We really feel that IDW has found the best approach to the Turtles since the early days of the Mirage originals, and we are totally stoked to see them bringing back the classic TMNT Micro-Series one-shots, which tell new stories that stand-alone, and focus on one of the Turtles.
This week, we’re getting the TMNT micro-series one-shot of Michelangelo, who we know is a favorite for many. Featuring an incredible cover by MOUSE GUARD artist David Peterson, this one-shot shows us an adventure with Michelangelo exploring NYC on his own during the holidays. He’ll pick up a new ally, encounter grave danger, and uncover new secrets that reveal clues to ongoing mysteries all with that classic Michelangelo let’s party attitude.
Missed the MICRO SERIES #1: RAPHAEL one-shot? No worries, we’ve got copies in stock to catch you up!

KICK-ASS 2 #6 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY DELIVERS MORE OVER-THE-TOP ULTRA-VIOLENCE, AND MARK MILLAR AWESOMENESS
MISSED 1-5? WE’VE GOT COPIES IN STOCK TO CATCH YOU UP!
We’re huge fans of Mark Millar and John Romita JR’s KICK-ASS here at Third Eye, and are totally pumped to see #6 hitting so soon after the cliffhanger of issue #5.
By now, we’re sure that many of you are already well aware of how kick-ass KICK-ASS is… but, for those of you who may not yet be in the know, here’s the scoop:
A young comic fan buys a wetsuit on eBay, gets put in the hospital after trying to dish out some costumed justice, puts the suit back on… and actually succeeds in his crusade against crime, only to be caught on cell phone cameras, and uploaded to Youtube.
From there, a viral sensation is born, and hijinx ensue.
Fast forward to now: the world has changed, KICK-ASS has inspired a nation of imitators, and a brand new breed of costumed maniacs who have decided that if the world has heroes, it needs villains as well.
And, from there we’re taken on a journey of carnage, clever storytelling, and the most entertaining dialogue you’ll see on the stands.
Folks, the book lives up to the hype, and while the movie was fun, it still does not justice to the comics.
If you haven’t yet read KICK-ASS, we recommend starting with the KICK-ASS trade paperback that collects the entire first series, and then jumping on with the individual issues of the current KICK-ASS 2 7-part series. We’ve got both the trade, and all 6 issues of the brand new KICK-ASS 2 in stock now.

CAPTAIN AMERICA #5 & CAPTAIN AMERICA #6 BOTH ARRIVE THIS WEDNESDAY, WRAPPING UP THE FIRST STORY ARC, AND KICKING OFF A BRAND NEW ERA WITH SUPERSTAR LEGEND ALAN DAVIS TAKING OVER ART CHORES
Not just one awesome issue of CAPTAIN AMERICA this Wednesday, but TWO awesome issues of CAPTAIN AMERICA. As Ed Brubaker continues his incredible run on the recently relaunched CAPTAIN AMERICA series that features the one, and the only STEVE ROGERS rocking the mantle of CAP once again.

Brubaker and artist Steve McNiven (OLD MAN LOGAN, NEMESIS, CIVIL WAR) make a great team, as they bring the kind of bold, in-your-face, and action-packed CAPTAIN AMERICA storytelling you’ve grown to love from Brubaker when he writes Cap. A killer blend of sharp dialogue, killer plot twists, and psychotronic ’70s Cap bad guys brought into the modern age… this is Jack Kirby CAPTAIN AMERICA by way of 2012, and we love every second of it.

And, not content to just give us one awesome issue of CAP, not only do Brubaker and McNiven finish off their initial arc of the series with this Wednesday’s #5, but we also get the release of Brubaker and comics superstar Alan Davis’s new arc of the series.

BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT #4 – David Finch’s incredible NEW 52 Batman series continues, featuring some of the best artwork in the DC NEW 52! A must for fans of ARKHAM CITY & BATMAN: HUSH
Another stand-out of the DC NEW 52, BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT is most definitely one of the best looking titles in the DC NEW 52 line-up.
A must-read for fans of Jim Lee’s BATMAN: HUSH, and the ARKHAM ASYLUM / ARKHAM CITY video games, THE DARK KNIGHT exists as a nice, stand-alone BATMAN series which showcases some of Batman’s most interesting villains, and spotlights him and Gotham City in some of the best looking artwork on the stands.
In issue #4, Batman is racing to save a friend’s life. His mission, however, may prove impossible as he reels under the weight of three hundred chemically enhanced super-criminals who stand against him. All clues are pointing to one psychotic criminal, and all roads to a solution that will lead to one secret location.. but will Batman arrive too late?
Awesome stuff, we’re loving this series so far. If you’ve missed the early issues, no sweat, we’ve got 1-3 in stock to get you caught up.

GAME OF THRONES #4 – GEORGE RR MARTIN HAS CONQUERED NOVELS, TELEVISION, AND IS NOW DOING SO WITH THE WORLD OF COMICS IN THE NEW A GAME OF THRONES COMICS
We’re huge fans of A GAME OF THRONES here at Third Eye, and as such, we’re pretty much obligated to totally love the incredibly faithful comics that are coming out set in the world of George RR Martin’s GAME OF THRONES saga.
These comics provide a great new look, and insight into the world of A GAME OF THRONES, and we’re digging every second of it. The artwork is top notch, and helps bring the world of Winterfell and more to life in a major way.
Missed issues 1-3? We’ve got copies of each in stock to catch you up.

MONOCYTE #2 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY, DELIVERING MORE OF THE INCREDIBLE-LOOKING DARK FANTASY THAT BLEW US AWAY LAST MONTH
Monocyte debuted last month, and totally blew our minds with the incredible painted artwork of Menton3, and the dark sci-fi fantasy world that he and writer Kasra Ghanbari have created.
The story centers around a world where warring races of immortals find themselves at a stalemate, due to the lack of death in their world… so, the angel of Death himself, creates an emissary of destruction, the Monocyte, to wreak havoc on the planet.
And, in issue #2, The Monocyte begins his death march towards the Olignostic city, fending off relentless attacks on his journey to destroy their immortality machinery. Meanwhile, a powerless Olignostic seizes on Monocyte’s appearance to acquire power.
Really awesome stuff, that will appeal big-time to fans of stuff like DARK TOWER, DUNE, FAUST, and more.

X-MEN: SCHISM HC ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY COLLECTING THE ENTIRE EPIC SERIES THAT SPLIT THE X-MEN TEAMS IN TWO, AND LAUNCHED THE GOLD AND BLUE TEAMS
One of the biggest X-MEN stories of the last few years was this past summer’s SCHISM event, which set up the huge rift between the X-Men, and split the team into two factions.
With WOLVERINE and CYCLOPS coming head to head, as the series reaches it’s boiling point, this is the official starting point of the new X-MEN titles that are running now.
This hardcover collects the X-Men event of the decade. It’s never been a more dangerous time to be a mutant, and even with their numbers at a record low, the world refuses to trust mutant kind. Now, everything from sentinels to the Hellfire Club are threatening to tear the X-Men apart, but it’s their own internal conflict that will end an era.
Written by the very talented JASON AARON (INCREDIBLE HULK, WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN), and featuring a superstar artist for each chapter (ranging from Andy Kubert to Frank Cho to Alan Davis and more!), this is a must-read for any X-Men fan.

TEEN TITANS #4 - ANOTHER NEW 52 THIRD EYE FAVORITE CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY
Scott Lobdell and Brett Booth are really delivering an awesome read  with the NEW 52 take on the TEEN TITANS. We’re impressed every month with how kick-ass the TT title is now, and it really looks like the book has returned to the same glory days it once had during Geoff Johns’s run, as well as the eternally classic Wolfman/Perez days.
In this week’s #4, Wonder Girl has come to NYC to find Red Robin, and fill him in on what she’s found out about N.O.W.H.E.R.E, but it turns out that she’s going to have to punch her way through the mysterious Superboy first.
Two of the DCU’s most powerful young metahumans battle over the streets of Time Square, and Red Robin is left to assemble the team to keep the collateral damage to a minimum.
The writing on this one’s a lotta fun, and the artwork is just plain kick-ass.
Missed 1-3? We’ve got copies of each in stock to get you caught up.

SHAKY KANE’S MONSTER TRUCK GRAPHIC NOVEL DELIVERS A PSYCHADELIC, OVER-THE-TOP JOURNEY THROUGH SILVER AGE COMICS GONE WRONG
FROM THE ARTIST OF BULLETPROOF COFFIN!
Image delivers something totally kick-ass this Wednesday with this killer graphic novel of SHAKY KANE’S MONSTER TRUCK.
As big fans of last year’s BULLETPROOF COFFIN, we love Kane’s surreal art style, from the stylized monsters and weirdos to the color palette, it’s just plain great.
And, in MONSTER TRUCK, Shaky Kane brings us more Silver Age of Comics on Acid stylings, with a graphic road movie that takes the reader on a hallucinogenic journey into the very hinterland of popular culture.
Crazy, surreal, and over-the-top.. there’s not enough words to explain why we love Shaky Kane’s art. Just pick up Monster Truck, and find out for yourself.

ULTIMATE COMICS ULTIMATES #5 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY, DELIVERING THE 5TH ISSUE OF THE ULTIMATE UNIVERSE’S AVENGERS TITLE, AND FEATURING THE ENIGMATIC SPIDER-GIRL
We’re totally loving the new take on the ULTIMATES that FANTASTIC FOUR / RED WING / PAX ROMANA writer JONATHAN HICKMAN has been bringing to the book, and this week’s #5 is probably one of the new releases we’re looking forward to most.
Just like the new ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN series re-imagines the Ultimate Marvel Universe in a new and exciting way, ULTIMATES is doing the same thing with the AVENGERS, and putting them in a modern, new light in the ULTIMATE UNIVERSE.
If you’re digging ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN, and not reading the ULTIMATES or ULTIMATE X-MEN, do yourself a favor and give these two a try, as they are both kick-ass reads, and the three books work together very nicely in telling the story of the ULTIMATE UNIVERSE.
Missed issues 1-4? We’ve got copies of each in stock to catch you up to this week’s #5.

BATWOMAN WRITER / ARTIST J.H WILLIAMS III’S CHASE TRADE PAPERBACK COLLECTS THE ENTIRE SERIES OF THIRD EYE’S DC COMICS CULT FAVORITE.. IMAGINE X-FILES IN THE DC UNIVERSE BY THE ARTIST OF BATWOMAN.. YES, IT’S THAT AWESOME.
Folks, I gotta tell you: I’ve been wanting a good trade paperback collection of CHASE for YEARS. Seriously. I remember being just a clerk at the comic shop, nearly 7 or 8 years ago, and telling our DC sales rep to bring back CHASE. I love the series that much, and I’m so freakin’ stoked to see it’s finally being put into one massive awesome trade.
And, you have to read it. Seriously. This ’90s cult favorite tells the story of Agent Cameron Chase. On field assignment for the Department of Extranormal Operations, a government agency with jurisdiction over superhuman activity, she’s about to encounter some unexpected surprises, as her own mysterious powers come into play — powers she doesn’t yet fully understand. This incredible 350+ page collection gives you EVERYTHING Chase.. the entire series, plus appearances in one-shots, limited series,  and more.
A must-read for anyone who loves stuff like GOTHAM CENTRAL, BATWOMAN, or would love to see an X-Files like spin on the DCU.

ULTIMATE COMICS X-MEN #5 - THE MUTANTS OF THE ULTIMATE UNIVERSE CONTINUE TO KEEP US INTERESTED, AS NICK SPENCER (MORNING GLORIES, INFINITE VACATION) WEAVES A KILLER TAKE ON THE ULTIMATE X-MEN!
Along with the ULTIMATES and ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN, Ultimate X-Men has also gotten a huge shot in the arm with this past summer’s revamp of the ULTIMATE UNIVERSE. The addition of Nick Spencer to the line-up of writers handling the Ultimate Universe was a perfect choice, as he’s already proven he can write a compelling ensemble piece with young characters, while at the same time weaving bigger-than-life plots to keep things interesting.
In this week’s ULTIMATE X-MEN #5, Stryker makes a bold return, and the X-Men must really come together to make a showing of themselves as the next-generation of mutant heroes. And.. there may just be a traitor in the midst.
Kick-ass stuff, to be sure.

STAFF PICKS
ANNAPOLIS
STEVE: BATMAN #4 - It’s hard to NOT pick this book as a favorite, but it did get some really tough competition this week. JL #4 almost stole the top spot, but BATMAN #4 was so good, in every way. Loved it.
TRISH: MEMORIAL #1 - A must for fans of stuff like UNWRITTEN or THE SANDMAN. Really cool new fantasy series from IDW, plus.. a talking cat!
TORMA: INCREDIBLE HULK #3 - You can pretty much assume that every time INCREDIBLE HULK ships, it’ll be my pick as long as Jason Aaron keeps writing it.
 PRINCE FREDERICK
GEORGE: JUSTICE LEAGUE #4 - This series gets better and better with each issue. #4 may be my favorite yet.
SHAUN:  MEMORIAL #1 - What is it about antique stores? MEMORIAL is a highly promising modern day fantasy. Stolen memories, magical keys, an evil ventriloquist dummy… that’s just the first issue! IDW is really delivering these days!
