THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS AT THIRD EYE COMICS FOR WEDNESDAY 5/23/12

BATMAN INCORPORATED #1 DEBUTS FROM GRANT MORRISON THIS WEDNESDAY, BRINGING THE WORLWIDE FRANCHISE OF BAT-MEN TO THE NEW 52
The world of BATMAN INCORPROATED that GRANT MORRISON has put together is one hell of a fascinating, and exciting place to be in terms of BATMAN, and we really cannot get enough of it.
Picking up after the events of last year’s BATMAN INCORPORATED (pre-NEW 52, now available in graphic novel at Third Eye), BATMAN INCORPORATED launches Batman and Robin into the NEW 52, as they continue to build a global presence of Dark Knight Crusaders, while trying to avoid the entanglements of the Court of Owls, and the numerous Talons that are roaming Gotham.
This series brings a very unique feel to the world of the DCU, as we see new and existing characters being recruited into Batman’s worldwide campaign against crime, and it’s this global effort to put a Batman in every country, that is what originally sparked the ire of the Court of Owls, and kicked off that amazing story arc that’s currently running.
Morrison brings all of the quirk, and post-modern Bat-weirdness that we came to love during his run of BATMAN AND ROBIN, and BATMAN INC, to the NEW 52, with the amazingly talented Chris Burnham handling art chores, and making this book look as sleek as it reads.
I mean, I think when you see a villain by the name of Goat-Boy in the first issue, you have a pretty good idea that you’re in for one hell of a bizarre, and wild read.
As huge Morrison fans (his work on BATMAN AND ROBIN, the BATMAN: RIP trilogy, THE INVISIBLES, WE 3 and more are still among our favorites), we’re pretty pumped to see where he plans to take the Caped Crusader and his new mission in BATMAN INCORPORATED.

JOE HILL’S THE CAPE HARDCOVER ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, COLLECTING ONE OF THE BEST POST-MODERN 21st CENTURY ANTI-HERO STORIES WE’VE READ FROM THE WRITER OF “LOCKE & KEY”
Joe Hill’s THE CAPE is one of our favorite things we have read in quite some time, with it’s dark, mature take on what would happen if your average low-life got super-powers… and, how a real-life, genuine “super-villain” is born.
Written by LOCKE & KEY author, JOE HILL, who also happens to be the son of Stephen King (I guess good stories run in the family!), THE CAPE tells a story where every little boy dreams about putting on a cape and soaring up, up, and away.. but asks what if one day that dream were to come true? Eric was like every other eight-year old boy, until a tragic accident changed his life forever. The Cape explores the dark side of power, as the adult Eric — a confused and broken man — takes to the skies.. and sets out to exact a terrible vengeance on everyone who ever disappointed him.
Eric can’t hold a job, has a drug problem, treats his girlfriend poorly, and is just all around not a great dude, after a lifetime of being handed the short end of the stick. After being dumped, he finds his childhood cape.. and realizes he can fly again, and from there, starts a spiral into homicide, and madness that cannot be stopped.
We don’t want to ruin the initial surprise of how the first chapter concludes, but, folks, you will not be able to put this one down after reading that, TRUST US.
One of the best things we followed last year, if you haven’t read THE CAPE yet, snag the hardcover this Wednesday, and give it a shot. You’ll love it.

AQUAMAN has been one of THE highlights of the NEW 52, delivering issue after issue of amazing storytelling, top notch artwork, and the kind of cliffhangers that leave you foaming at the mouth for the next issue.
With BLACKEST NIGHT / BRIGHTEST DAY creative teams GEOFF JOHNS and IVAN REIS handling the writing chores, this book has read AND looked great, and we really mean it when we say that it ranks up there with BATMAN, ANIMAL MAN, and JUSTICE LEAGUE as one of our favorite NEW 52s.

We are HUGE fans of Jim Zub’s work on the IMAGE series SKULLKICKERS, and have been hooked non-stop since the launch of that killer read. So, when we saw Zub had a new project he was putting together, we took notice.
MAKESHIFT MIRACLE is an enchanting story about a young boy named Colby Reynolds who’s searching for meaning in the world around him and discovers a place where dreams can come true, if he’s willing to pay the price.
Along the way he’ll see sights he’s never fathomed and encounter hidden truths about himself that he’ll wish he never knew.

AVENGERS VS X-MEN: SECRET AVENGERS #27 - CAPTAIN AMERICA IS REBORN, AS THE KREE ARE UNITED AGAINST THE PHOENIX! Could this be a lead-in to the upcoming CAPTAIN MARVEL series featuring CAROL DANVERS?
SECRET AVENGERS has been a must-read title since RICK REMENDER, of UNCANNY X-FORCE and VENOM, came on board as the regular series writer, bringing an otherworldly sense of cosmic adventure to the book in a big way.
This one continues the streak of awesomeness that has been going down in the AVENGERS VS X-MEN tie-ins, and folks, when I say I haven’t read a bad tie-in yet, I mean it. Marvel is ON POINT.
In SECRET AVENGERS #27, CAPTAIN MARVEL is REBORN in an effort to unite all KREE, meanwhile the Avengers find themselves being put at odds with their allies Ms. Marvel, and Captain Marvel, as the Phoenix draws closer to the Kree home world.
Look for developments to shape Carol Danvers into the new Captain Marvel to go down in these issues, folks, as her new series is getting ready to come out very soon, and it looks AWESOME.

STAR WARS: DARTH VADER AND THE GHOST PRISON #1 FILLS IN MORE STORYLINE GAPS BETWEEN EPISODE III and EPISODE IV IN THIS AWESOME NEW LIMITED SERIES STARRING DARTH VADER
When it comes to STAR WARS, it may make us old school, but we have a soft spot for stories set in or around the original Trilogy of flicks.

So, whenever we see a new series set in that time period come out, we get pretty stoked. But, when it’s starting DARTH VADER? Well, heck, we’re sold, say no more.

STAR WARS: DARTH VADER AND TEH GHOST PRISON is a killer new limited series set between the events of EPISODE 3 and EPISODE 4, during the formation of the Empire, the construction of the DEATH STAR, and the overall strengthening of the Emperor’s control over the galaxy.

In this limited series, we see the graduation celebration for the first class of Imperial cadets, and how it’s disrupted by a sudden terrorist strike. But the real targets of the attack are the new Emperor, and his second-in-command, Darth Vader.

Only one man — a disabled, brilliant cadet who, up until the moment of the attack, was experiencing the best moment of his life — stands ready to fight alongside Vader for the life of his Emperor.

This series is set during the earliest sparks of Rebellion in the Star Wars Universe, and is a fantastic glimpse at the formation of the Rebel Alliance as we know it.

Jump on board this Wednesday with STAR WARS DARTH VADER AND THE GHOST PRISON #1.

NIGHT OF THE OWLS EXPLODES IN ALL-STAR WESTERN #9 AND BATMAN THE DARK KNIGHT #9 THIS WEDNESDAY, DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS STELLAR CROSSOVER SPINNING OUT OF SCOTT SNYDER’S BATMAN
We’ve been LOVING the NIGHT OF THE OWLS from DC this Summer, with the killer COURT OF OWLS storyline that began in Scott Snyder’s BATMAN title exploding across the DC NEW 52, this has been one of the best crossovers we’ve seen in ages.
Now, going forward into this week’s ALL-STAR WESTERN #9 and BATMAN DARK KNIGHT #9, we get two more incredible chapters of the NIGHT OF OWLS, both of which add crucial elements to the overall storyline.
I’m personally very stoked about the ALL STAR WESTERN tie-in, as the entire run of this series has been one of my favorite reads, with it’s unique look at Gotham City during the Old West, the formation of Arkham Asylum, and much more, we’ve been loving this book since issue #1.
Now, we’re stoked to say that you guys are going to get to see just how awesome a job of Gray, Palmiotti and Moritat have been doing with this book. It really is the definition of damn good comic book storytelling.
This issue of ALL STAR WESTERN gives a rare insight into the earliest days of the COURT OF OWLS, and their formation, during the year 1880… the year the Jonah Hex was operating out of Gotham as it’s most notorious bounty hunter.
Also dropping this week is the stellar tie-in to NIGHT OF THE OWLS that goes down in BATMAN THE DARK KNIGHT #9.
This issue features UNDER THE RED HOOD writer JUDD WINICK as a special guest-writer, and of course, regular series artist, and comics legend, DAVID FINCH, on art.
Red Robin has returned to Gotham City, and when he does, he’s thrown into the thick of the NIGHT OF THE OWLS, as TALON specifically targets him for extermination.
Another stellar NIGHT OF THE OWLS tie-in, snag it this Wednesday.

AVATAR PRESS, PUBLISHERS OF CROSSED, NEONOMICON, CHRONICLES OF WORMWOOD, FERALS, and MORE DELIVERS CALIGULA trade paperback this WEDNESDAY
AVATAR PRESS has built a strong reputation for delivering some of the most horrific, and terrifying comics on the stands, and their series CALIGULA was no exception.

Following in the same footsteps as disturbing, in-your-face horror comics like CROSSED, NEONOMICON, and FERALS, Caligula delivered an alt-history horror story that delved into the real horrors of Rome’s most depraved emperor, while adding a disturbing new twist of supernatural horror.

In an age of depravity, one man’s appetites horrified the entire Roman Empire… the mad emperor, Caligula. When his family was brutal slaughtered by Caligula and his court, Junius travels to Rome to avenge their deaths, but discovers that the emperor cannot be killed, no matter how horrific the wound.

Renamed ‘Felix’ and admitted into Caligula’s court as a biographer, the young man witnesses the worst depravity and brutality the ancient world has to offer. Ritual murders, rigged gladiator fights, and dinner parties where guests are randomly slaughtered. Can Felix maintain his sanity in the face of so much horror and discover the secret behind Caligula’s mysterious power over life and death?

A tale of historical horror fact, and supernatural horror fiction, CALIGULA delivers the same kind of no-holds-barred horror comics that you’ve come to know and love from AVATAR PRESS.

A must-read for fans of CROSSED, and NEONOMICON, snag yourself a copy this Wednesday.

UNCANNY X-FORCE VOL.3 DARK ANGEL SAGA BOOK 1 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY IN TRADE PAPERBACK, CONTINUING ONE OF THE BEST X-MEN ARCS IN RECENT HISTORY
UNCANNY X-FORCE delivers it’s third trade paperback this Wednesday, and the official start of the DARK ANGEL SAGA, which is one of the most exciting X-Men story lines we’ve seen in ages.

Rick Remender, and art team of Billy Tan, Jerome Opena and Mark Brooks really kicked ass on this one, as they showed us a fresh, and exciting new spin on the X-Men mythos.

After the events of the APOCALYPSE SOLUTION, which showed us APOCALYPSE-kid being terminated by Fantomex, Arch-Angel begins to slowly transform into the next En Sabah Nur, being his highest ranked Horsemen before, he is now next in line to fill his place.

Of course, the X-Force isn’t going to let this happen, and thus begins a stellar tale where Uncanny X-Force finds themselves journeying into the AGE OF APOCALYPSE in search of a cure.

A+ in terms of art, story, and everything in between, this series does NOT slow down, and this arc was just more proof of that.

And, right alongside the UNCANNY X-FORCE vol.3, comes the 5th volume in hardcover, with UNCANNY X-FORCE: OTHERWORLD, delivering the latest arc of Remender’s incredible run on this series.

Following on the aftermath of UNCANNY X-FORCE: THE DARK ANGEL SAGA, the X-Force journeys to Otherworld, where Fantomex is being put on trial by the Captain Britain Corps. Yes, Remender is totally bringing Captain Britain into the mix, and folks: it’s AWESOME. We haven’t been this stoked on that character since the Alan Moore / Alan Davis stuff.

Meanwhile, Wolverine and Age of Apcoalypse Nightcrawler face a strange and deadly foe, Psylocke becomes Lady Briton — and Deadpool loses his head.. literally! Ok, that was bad. But, seriously, more awesomeness, more UNCANNY X-FORCE, you can’t go wrong with this series.

HAUNT VOL.3 DELIVERS THE CONCLUSION TO ROBERT KIRKMAN (WALKING DEAD, THIEF OF THIEVES, INVINCIBLE) and GREG CAPULLO’S (SPAWN, BATMAN: THE COURT OF OWLS) RUN ON HAUNT!
A MUST-READ FOR FANS OF SPAWN, INVINCIBLE, AND CAPULLO’S ART ON THE NEW 52 FLAGSHIP BATMAN TITLE
The epic, yet short-lived run of HAUNT by Kirkman/Capullo concludes in this Wednesday’ HAUNT volume 3, and while it’s sad to see it end after only 18 issues, we gotta tell you: these 18 issues will go down as some of the best IMAGE comics of the last few years.
Featuring the writing of WALKING DEAD / INVINCIBLE / THIEF OF THIEVES creator ROBERT KIRKMAN, and the artwork of red-hot New 52 BATMAN artist (COURT OF OWLS) GREG CAPULLO, Haunt delivers a fantastic tale that delivers visceral, in-your-face, uber-violent superhero comics in the tradition of old school Spawn, Punisher and Venom. In other words, pure anti-hero badassery, but with a 21st century spin.
The story focuses on two brothers, one a less than perfect priest, the other a government agent, the men struggle to get along, rarely agreeing on anything.
An unexpected accident forces them to work together in ways they never thought possible, as one of the brother’s is killed in a weird ops experiment, and returns to “haunt” his brother, possessing his body, and wrapping it in an ectoplasmic shell.
Meanwhile, struggling with his own personal demons, the priest begrudgingly works alongside the spirit of his brother, to form HAUNT.
Now, vengeance is their’s, as they leave a trail of bodies in their wake, and look for the men who put them in this position.
Wanna jump on board? Try HAUNT vol.1 for only $9.99 this Wednesday.
For those of you who’re already into it, we know you’ll be stoked to grab vol.3 this Wednesday.
