This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 5/30/12

NIGHT OF THE OWLS: BATMAN ANNUAL #1 NIGHT OF THE OWLS NEARS IT’S CONCLUSION IN THIS WEDNESDAY’S BATMAN ANNUAL #1 FROM SCOTT SNYDER!
NIGHT OF THE OWLS has been one of our favorite things this year at Third Eye, and it’s no secret that we’re all unabashed Scott Snyder fanboys to the highest degree. I mean, whether it’s the sheer awesomeness of the man’s work on AMERICAN VAMPIRE, his chilling IMAGE horror series SEVERED, or his modern Bat-classic THE BLACK MIRROR, Snyder hooks us!
But, his most exciting work to date has been the NEW 52 Batman run that he and Greg Capullo have been knocking out of the park month after month, delivering a degree of consistently awesome storytelling that is virtually unheard of on such a tight schedule these days. I mean, these guys keep that momentum rocking BIG TIME, and there’s no signs of them slowing down any time soon.
The current crossover event, NIGHT OF THE OWLS, which spun out of the epic COURT OF OWLS arc (available both in single issues and in hardcover at Third Eye now), is an amazing piece of work, and we’ve enjoyed nearly every chapter of it so far.
Now, this Wednesday, the conclusion to the NIGHT OF THE OWLS is getting closer, as we see BATMAN ANNUAL deliver one hell of a punch.
A very special chapter of NIGHT OF THE OWLS, we see Snyder literally re-inventing MR. FREEZE for the DC NEW 52, and bringing a level of depth to this character that we haven’t seen since the amazing, and classic BATMAN: HEART OF ICE animated short.
Quality comic books, folks, that’s what you’ve got here, and as always, our highest recommendations are bestowed upon NIGHT OF THE OWLS, and ESPECIALLY BATMAN / BATMAN ANNUAL, with it’s Snyder goodness.
Wanna get caught up? We’ve got ALL chapters of the NIGHT OF THE OWLS crossover in stock and available now to get you up to date.

GRIM LEAPER #1 DEBUTS FROM PETER PANZERFAUST writer KURTIS J. WIEBE and IMAGE COMICS this Wednesday, DELIVERING A GORY ROMANTIC COMEDY ABOUT A MAN WHO JUST CAN’T STOP DYING.
QUANTUM LEAP Meets SHAUN OF THE DEAD!
We’re huge fans of Kurtis’s past work on stuff like GREEN WAKE, and most recently, PETER PANZERFAUST, so we were pretty stoked when he gave us the inside scoop on his new project from IMAGE COMICS: GRIM LEAPER.
Now, with GRIM LEAPER hitting the stands this Wednesday, and after having a chance to read this bad boy, I gotta tell you: the book KICKS ASS.
Picture the gory, zombie mayhem and subtle humor of SHAUN OF THE DEAD or RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, and mix it with the body-jumping craziness of something like QUANTUM LEAP, and that sums up the insane world of GRIM LEAPER very well.
What’s it about? Well, a fellow named Lou Collins is caught in a cyclical curse of violent, gruesome deaths and new beginnings in the bodies of strangers. Yes, he just can’t stop dying in horrible, terrible ways, and when he dies? He does’ t stay dead, but instead finds himself waking up in the body of a complete stranger. With no clue as to why, Lou desperately search for a way to break the curse and crossover peacefully to the other side. Then equally doomed Ella comes along. And, well, you know what they say: Love will tear us apart, right?
Grim Leaper is smart, fresh, funny, and unique, a blend of slice-of-life humor and drama, with a healthy dose of gruesome horror, give this one a shot this Wednesday, Third Eye Faithful, especially if you dig the quirky yet gritty tone of PETER PANZERFAUST, which is fast becoming Wiebe’s trademark.

AVENGERS VS X-MEN: WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #11 *AVX TIE-IN*
ICEMAN VS. RED HULK!
AVENGERS VS X-MEN rages on this week with two stellar new tie-ins, including one of our favorite monthly Marvel series, WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN, which on it’s own is good to begin with, but damn, tied into AVX: it’s near perfect. I love this book! Seriously. It’s a blast. It reminds me so much of the Grant Morrison run on NEW X-MEN back in the day, and that’s a high compliment, as that remains one of my favorite X-Men runs of all-time.
Anyways, enough rambling, this week’s issue #11 delivers a really stellar story involving Cyclops’s arrival at the Jean Grey School of Higher Learning, Wolverine’s recent betrayal in WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #4, and just where Wolverine’s own X-Men will stand in the war against the Avengers.
Oh, plus: RED HULK VS. ICEMAN? How bad-ass is THAT?
Wanna get caught up on the rest of the AVX tie-ins? We’ve currently got all chapters of this killer event in stock and available now to catch you up to current.

STAR TREK / DOCTOR WHO ASSIMILATION2 #1 DROPS THIS WEDNESDAY BRINGING THE CREW OF THE ENTERPRISE AND THE 11TH DOCTOR TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME
*Meet STAR TREK / DOCTOR WHO ASSIMILATION artist JK WOODWARD at the SOUTHERN MARYLAND COMIC-CON on JULY 7th*
This Wednesday marks a pretty historic moment in fandom: Star Trek and Doctor Who are crossing paths. And, folks: that’s a big freakin’ deal. The fan bases of both DOCTOR WHO and STAR TREK are enormous, and lets be honest: we love both Trek and Who at Third Eye, so we’re pretty darn excited about this one.
This eight-issue miniseries shows us just what happens when the Borg and the Cybermen have joined forces, and well, of course, that means that Captain Picard and the 11th Doctor will have to join forces as well.
Now, DOCTOR WHO TV writer TONY LEE and the uber-talented JK Woodward, team up to deliver one hell of an exciting read that captures the humor, and wit of the Doctor Who television show, while balancing the drama and excitement of STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION.
A must-read, make sure you snag yourself a copy of this one this Wednesday, Third Eye Faithful!

ANIMAL MAN ANNUAL #1 OFFICIALLY KICKS OFF THE HUGE SWAMP THING / ANIMAL CROSSOVER: THE RED AND THE GREEN!
We have been HUGE fans of Jeff Lemire’s run of ANIMAL MAN, and on top of that ,we’ve also been HUGE fans of Scott Snyder’s run of SWAMP THING.
So, as we saw the stories unfold, and saw the upcoming SWAMP THING / ANIMAL MAN crossover getting closer, we started to get pretty excited. I mean, c’mon, lets face it: these two characters go together PERFECTLY, and both Lemire and Snyder are really shaping up some fascinating stuff with their runs on these two books, delivering runs that are totally worthy of the legacy that both Morrison and Moore’s ANIMAL MAN and SWAMP THING runs set forth for these characters.
You know, it’s really interesting to see how two of the best what would’ve been considered VERTIGO books 10 years ago, are now part of the DCU proper. I think that’s one of the coolest things about the NEW 52 is the opening up of the genres, and broadening of how things are, and ANIMAL MAN and SWAMP THING demonstrate that perfectly.
ANIMAL MAN ANNUAL kicks off the crossover, and folks: THIS ISSUE RULED. Holy crap, talk about the a great read, and a highlight of the run. This special stand-alone issue of ANIMAL MAN is the official start of the crossover with SWAMP THING, and tells an epic history less onto the struggle between THE RED, THE GREEN, and THE ROT.
Do not miss out on this one, folks, one of the best things we read this week.
Not reading ANIMAL MAN? ANIMAL MAN ANNUAL #1 is a PERFECT jumping on point, but if you’d rather go back to the beginning, we’ve got both the ANIMAL MAN vol.1 trade paperback, AND the individual issues of ANIMAL 1-9 in stock now to get you up to date.

AMERICA’S GOT POWERS #2 FOLLOWS UP THE KILLER FIRST ISSUE WITH AN EVEN BETTER SECOND ISSUE! ONE OF OUR FAVORITE NEW IMAGE SERIES OF THE YEAR!
The Hunger Games with Super-Powers
America’s Got Powers turned out to be one of our favorite new debuts that dropped this year from IMAGE, and honestly, it took us by surprise. While we’ve always been huge fans of Bryan Hitch, and we dug TURF by Jonathan Edwards, we really didn’t see the awesomeness of this one coming until we actually sat down with it in our hands the week of release.
And, holy crap, folks, this book is GREAT. I mean, you will NOT find a better-looking comic on the stands right now when it comes to artwork. Hitch is back to his gold standard, and the work on this one is very reminiscent of his work on ULTIMATES and ULTIMATES 2, as well as THE AUTHORITY.
The clean lines, the widescreen action-shots, the realistic characters… everything about AMERICA’S GOT POWERS screams out in excitement, and energy, and a lot of it is due to Hitch’s incredible talents as an artist.
But, we can’t discount Ross’s efforts here either, as he’s really shaped up into a damn fine comic writer with this second offering. We dug Turf, but are glad to see that Ross has toned down the more dense writing style he used in Turf, and has adopted a more cinematic, and dynamic style that compliments Hitch’s art perfectly. The dialogue is sharp, the pacing is great, and the whole book has this really stellar cinematic feel that immerses you in the world of AMERICA’S GOT POWERS.
What’s it about? A generation of super-powered teens must battle to the death on national TV to be “The Hero” of AMERICA’S GOT POWERS. Imagine THE HUNGER GAMES with super-powers, and that sums up the tone of this one real well.
Of course, the show is about to get even more dangerous, as someone new is coming, and he’s got plans to destroy the show, and every contestant in it.
A fantastic read, from start to finish, snag yourself a copy of AMERICA’S GOT POWERS this Wednesday.
Wanna jump on board? We’ve still got plenty of copies of the red-hot issue #1 (first printings too!) available at cover price to hook you up!

HULK SMASH AVENGERS #5 – The 5-issue limited series featuring THE HULK destroying each generation’s AVENGERS line-up concludes this Wednesday
This series was a BLAST!
HULK SMASH AVENGERS has been a freakin’ blast from start to finish, and we’ve loved every second of this non-stop slugfest featuring the Jade Giant.
A 5-issue limited series that concludes this week, HULK SMASH AVENGERS delivers 5 one-shot stories, which feature the HULK literally destroying (and I mean, ripping from limb to limb) each generation’s AVENGERS line-up.
The first one starts with the classic ’60s-era AVENGERS, the second one takes us into the ’70s era AVENGERS, the third one drops us firmly in the ’80s, and last week’s fourth one was a solid read with an early ’90s spin.
Now, this week the event rounds out, with the HULK throwing down with one of the Avengers line-ups most known and well-regarded during the 2000s: Frank Cho’s MIGHTY AVENGERS, featuring SENTRY, BLACK WIDOW, ARES, IRON MAN, and more.
We’re pretty pumped for this one, as this is the Avengers line-up we’ve spent the most time following, and are pumped to see how the whole HULK VS. SENTRY thing goes down.
Some times, all you need is a ton of smash mouth in your face action to make for a good Hulk comic, ya know?
Wanna get caught up? We’ve got all five issues in stock, so you can grab the whole set.

WALKING DEAD #98 *SOMETHING TO FEAR CHAPTER 2* – The lead up to WALKING DEAD #100 continues, as MAJOR things down in this week’s WALKING DEAD #98!
Been waiting to jump onto the single issues? Walking Dead vol.16 comes out in June, and ends with issue #96, jump on board with 97 and 98, in stock now!
WALKING DEAD continues to rage on like a freight train, wrapping us up more and more in the epic tale that Robert Kirkman has spun, and we are loving every second of it.
As we get closer and closer to issue #100, all we can say is: holy crap. When a series runs as long as this one has, you expect so me ups and downs, but the book has been consistently one of our favorites for quite some time now, and these last few issues have been some of the best in the run so far.
We have a feeling something HUGE…. HUGE.. HUGE.. is going to happen in #100, but I mean, I think you are all expecting that as well. The question though, is what? That’s what’s got me thinking.
Not reading WALKING DEAD yet? We cannot urge you enough to check this series out. Start with either the WALKING DEAD VOL.1 trade paperback for only $9.99, or the WALKING DEAD COMPENDIUM (the first 49 issues aka 8 trade paperbacks, for only $59.99), and hop aboard one of the best comics running.
Reading WALKING DEAD in trades and looking for a place to jump onto the single issues? With volume 16 dropping in June, and collecting up to issue #96, last month’s #97 is the first issue to follow the next trade. Snag yourself a copy of that, and this week’s #98, so you’re caught up in time for when VOL.16 drops in a couple of weeks.

BATMAN: DEATH BY DESIGN by legendary graphic designer CHIP KIDD delivers one of the most exciting, and interesting stand-alone BATMAN graphic novels we’ve read in quite some time!
It’s no secret that BATMAN and his world lend themselves very well to the original graphic novel format, and we’ve seen some legendary reads because of this.
BATMAN: Death by Design by the legendary Chip Kidd is definitely one of those stand-out, runaway hit graphic novels that follows in the trail of past modern classics.
A gorgeous book from start to finish, not only does this mark Kidd’s first official full length comic work, but it also delivers one of the most compelling, and iconic looks at The Dark Knight that we have seen in quite some time.
Talk about craft, this book is meticulously put together, and designed in such a way, that just the layout and presentation of the book itself are an artistic masterpiece. But, then you open those covers, flip the pages, and begin reading, and you see that this is, quite possibly, one of the best damn Batman stories to hit the shelves in quite some time.
In DEATH BY DESIGN, GOTHAM CITY is undergoing one of the most expansive construction booms in history. The most prestigious architects from across the globe have buildings in various phases of completion all over town.
As chairman of the Gotham Landmarks Commission, Bruce Wayne has been a key part of this boom, which signals a golden age of architectural ingenuity for the city. And then, the explosions begin. All manner of design-related malfunctions-faulty crane calculations, sturdy materials suddently collapsing, software glitches, walkways giving way and much more-cause casualties across the city.
This bizarre string of seemingly random, unconnected catastrophes threaten to bring the whole construction industry down. Fingers are pointed as Batman must somehow solve the problem and find whoever is behind it all.
This is a noir-drenched, Gothic kind of Batman story that recalls a strong tip of the hat to Bruce Timm and Paul Dini’s BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES.
From the layout of the pages, to the art of Dave Taylor, to Kidd’s keen eye for designer in how the city is put together, DEATH BY DESIGN delivers the kind of BATMAN read that’ll sit nicely next to classics like THE LONG HALLOWEEN, DARK VICTORY, and YEAR ONE.
Make sure you snag yourself a copy this Wednesday at Third Eye!

AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER THE PROMISE VOL.2 – THE OFFICIAL BRIDGE BETWEEN THE FIRST AVATAR THE AIRBENDER SERIES AND THE NEW LEGEND OF KORRA SERIES CONTINUES!
We know that many of you guys are a lot like us, and are huge fans of AVATAR THE LAST AIRBENDER, and so we know, that you guys are just as pumped for the second installment of the new series of graphic novels bridging the gap of story between the first AVATAR series and the new LEGEND OF KORRA series.
Featuring many of the writers from the AVATAR television series, and official in-continuity stories that take place between the two series, this next installment shows Aang and Katara working tirelessly for peace when an impasse between Fire Lord Zuko and Earth king Kuei over Fire Nation colonies within the borders of the Earth Nation threatens to plunge the world back into war!
Meanwhile, Sokka must help Toph prepare her hapless first class of metal bending students to defend their school against a rival class of fire benders.

STAY ANGRY: INCREDIBLE HULK #8 *STAY ANGRY PART ONE* – THE RADDEST HULK ARC SINCE PLANET HULK BEGINS THIS WEDNESDAY IN “STAY ANGRY!”
THE HULK MUST STAY ANGRY TO KEEP FROM DESTROYING HIMSELF
We have been HUGE fans of Jason Aaron’s run of INCREDIBLE HULK, and now, he’s joined by his PUNISHER MAX collaborator, STEVE DILLON, to tell what we’re sure is going to go down as one of the BEST Hulk arcs in recent memory: STAY ANGRY.

The way this one comes across, it almost feels like the movie CRANK but with the HULK, and we think that’s pretty damn cool.

In order to not revert into something he doesn’t want to be, the Hulk must do everything in his power to STAY ANGRY, and not calm down, so he remains hulked out.

In the first chapter of STAY ANGRY, the HULK finds himself seeking out the Punisher, YES, SEEKING, because, lets face it: if anyone’s going to piss off the Jade Giant, it’s Frank Castle and his unrelenting tenacity.

And, hey, if that doesn’t work out, the Green Goliath can always throw down with a murderous drug cartel.

How freakin’ cool is this? I’m stoked, you should be too, ’cause Jason Aaron HULK rules.

Wanna get caught up? We’ve got issues 1-7.1 in stock now to catch you up to this week’s #8, or you can jump on fresh with INCREDIBLE HULK #8, which is the first issue in the STAY ANGRY arc.

CALL OF WONDERLAND #1 arrives this Wednesday, following up on ALICE IN WONDERLAND, which concludes this week, and continues to further the mythology of Zenescope’s dark WONDERLAND
We know many of you are HUGE fans of Zenescope’s incredible darkly themed WONDERLAND series, and with ALICE IN WONDERLAND #6 bringing that series to it’s conclusion, we know that many of you going to be pumped for CALL OF WONDERLAND, which is the follow-up to ALICE, as well as a brand new chapter in the WONDERLAND mythology.

As the countdown to the ongoing WONDERLAND series begins, CALL OF WONDERLAND opens with the Jabberwocky having been defeated. The Queen of Hearts is dead, and Wonderland is in a state of chaos with no ruler on the throne. Enter the Red Knight who is determined to destroy all of Wonderland and the world at large by unleashing a deadly ancient force long thought to be gone. Meanwhile on Earth, a literary student researching HP LOVECRAFT will discover a long forgotten secret that could save or damn us all.

DC NEW 52 WAVE 2: THE RAVAGERS #1 – Spinning out of the pages of the recent CULLING storyline in TEEN TITANS / SUPERBOY / LEGION LOST, comes THE RAVAGERS, featuring DEATHSTROKE’s daughter, Rose, as well as Beast Boy, and Fairchild (of GEN13!)
Featuring superstar artist IAN CHURCHILL
Rounding out the new assortment of DC NEW 52 titles that have replaced the titles that were ended, THE RAVAGERS comes to us out of the aftermath of the recently concluded CULLING story arc in TEEN TITANS / SUPER BOY / LEGION LOST.

This one looks like a blast, and is definitely channeling the kind of energy of early-mid ’90s comic book goodness, with fantastic artwork, bigger-than-life characters, and a dynamic, action-packed story which re-defines old characters, and introduces new ones.

Fairchild, (of GEN13 fame), Thunder and Lightning, Ridge, Beast Boy (of Teen Titans fame), and Terra are being pursued by Rose Wilson and Warblade, who want them dead at any cost.

No one’s survival is guaranteed in the pages of THE RAVAGERS, and we’re pretty intrigued to see where this new title is heading.

Plus: IAN CHURCHILL’S ARTWORK IS OFF-THE-CHAIN. Seriously. Just flip through the book this Wednesday, you won’t be able to put it down.

KICK-ASS 2 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY IN HARDCOVER AT THIRD EYE! JUMP ON BOARD THE ULTRA-VIOLENT SEQUEL TO ONE OF THE BEST SERIES OF THE 2000s
We’re huge fans of KICK-ASS, and we loved the recently concluded sequel, KICK-ASS 2, so we’re pretty pumped to see it arriving this week in graphic novel.
Picking up shortly after the events of KICK-ASS, KICK-ASS 2 continues to keep in the same, dark, nihilistic spirit of the first series, and we’re so stoked to see that it does. We loved the KICK-ASS movie, but I gotta be honest: the comics are a million times better, as there’s no filter needed, and the humor has much more of a mean-streak to it than in the film.
KICK-ASS 2 shows us the world that KICK-ASS has inspired. A world of wanna-be superheroes, and wanna-be super-villains, all playing an ultra-violent game of cops and robbers, and the stakes are getting dangerously real.
Fan-favorite Hit-Girl has decided that Kick-Ass could use some of her expertise, and begins to train the would-be hero in how to, well, kick-ass.
All the while, Red Mist is building an army of misfit super-villains to bring pain and misery raining down on KICK-ASS, and the other wanna-be superheroes that have followed in his footsteps.
Featuring the return of writer MARK MILLAR and artist JOHN ROMITA JR, this is one hell of an awesome read, folks, and I think I may have enjoyed it even more than the first KICK-ASS series.
For those of you who haven’t yet read the first series, don’t worry, we’ve got plenty of copies of the graphic novel on that one as well to get you on board!

BATMAN: PREY COMES BACK INTO PRINT THIS WEDNESDAY, COLLECTING THE DEFINITIVE HUGO STRANGE STORY!
RUMORED TO BE PART OF THE INSPIRATION FOR THE UPCOMING DARK KNIGHT RISES, SNAG YOURSELF A COPY THIS WEDNESDAY
BATMAN: PREY is one of the most anticipated reprintings that we’ve seen in quite some time. Rumors have swirled about this being somehow connected to the upcoming DARK KNIGHT RISES film, and we’re not sure if that means we’re going to see themes that are explored in here, or Hugo Strange himself, but either way, we’re intrigued.

As for the story itself, PREY is a fantastic Batman story that really stands the test of time.

In Prey, the Dark Knight must confront the psychologist Hugo Strange, a deadly man with a very sinister secret.

And, who is the fearsome Night Scourge, and what’s his connection to the Gotham City P.D? Where does Catwoman fit into all of this?

These are the questions Prey asks, and it does a fantastic job of answering them, as the stellar creative team of Doug Moench and Paul Gulacy kick-ass from start to finish on this one.

BALTIMORE: CURSE BELLS Hardcover ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, AS MIKE MIGNOLA DELVES DEEPER INTO THE PULPY ADVENTURES OF LORD BALTIMORE
We’re big fans of Mike Mignola at Third Eye, and love all the killer stories he’s weaved over the years, but I gotta admit, for his newer stuff: BALTIMORE is one of our favorites. And, it’s not just ’cause of the title character, and his origins.

Set during the horrors of World War I, the adventures of Lord Baltimore, a soldier turned vampire-killer deliver the kind of pulpy, atmospheric horror of a Hammer flick like Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing vampire films.

In CURSE BELLS, a horrific ritual will create havoc on a small European town, as Lord Baltimore takes on the twisted blessing of vampiric nuns and an insane warlock.

A crisp, clean, and blood-drenched kind of tale, BALTIMORE delivers one of our favorites reads every time, and this new stand-alone BALTIMORE tale is a great story to jump on board the character with.

Wanna read the earlier BALTIMORE adventures? We’ve also got plenty of copies of the BALTIMORE: PLAGUE SHIPS graphic novel in stock to get you on board.

SUPERMAN FAMILY ADVENTURES #1 DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY FROM TINY TITANS creators ART BALTAZAR and FRANCO BRINGING YOU A HUMOROUS, FUN TAKE ON SUPERMAN THAT APPEALS TO FANS OF ALL AGES
We loved TINY TITANS, and the all ages fun of the book was really, truly unique. It was the kind of funny-book that was perfect for kids, but it was also loaded with all sorts of quirky, inside jokes that any comic fan could appreciate.

Plus: seeing DARKSEID put into ridiculous situations is always great.

Now, the TINY TITANS creators are launching a brand new series for DC, and it’s the perfect comic for those of you who want to get your kids into comics, or for those of you who just love fun, zany stuff (ala ADVENTURE TIME, ect.).

SNAKE EYES & STORMSHADOW #13 BEGINS A BRAND NEW DIRECTION FOR THE SNAKE-EYES ONGOING, AS SNAKE EYE REJOINS CLAN ARASHIKAGE AND STORMSHADOW!

A brand new direction begins in issue #13 of the SNAKE-EYE ongoing series, as the series becomes SNAKEYES & STORMSHADOW, and shifts focus to the events of SNAKE-EYES rejoining the ARISHIKAGE clan, and allying with STORMSHADOW once again.

And, their first target? The newly crowned COBRA COMMANDER. Will the most dangerous GI Joe to live turn his back on his loyalties and his friends just to bring down the new leader of COBRA? That’s what we’re going to find out in this killer new arc.

We’re stoked, ’cause lets face it SNAKE-EYES and STORMSHADOW are the two coolest characters in the GI JOE universe, and to see an entire book that’s going to be adding to the lore of these two allies turned rivals.. and now, allies, again… that’s pretty rad.

SUPERCROOKS #3 – THE ULTRA-VIOLENT OCEANS 11 OF SUPER-VILLAINS CONTINUES FROM KICK-ASS, NEMESIS, SECRET SERVICE, AND OLD MAN LOGAN writer MARK MILLAR and SUPERIOR artist LEINIL YU
We’re big fans of MARK MILLAR at Third Eye, in case you couldn’t tell by the glowing write-up of KICK-ASS 2 up above, but, when we get TWO Millar books in one week.. well, that’s pretty awesome.

SUPERCROOKS is a freakin’ fun read, folks, and it’s got all the trademark awesomeness that you’ve come to expect from Millar in past works like NEMESIS, OLD MAN LOGAN, and KICK-ASS.

In the near future, superheroes overcrowd the U.S, and a small gang of super-villains who get busted every time they try to pull ANY kind of caper, finds themselves stumbling into the heist of a lifetime… and, the best part? It’s in a country where there’s very few superheroes.

One last heist to retire on, this gathering of super crooks kicks things into high gear, and we’re loving every second of it.

But, the biggest surprise of them all: the identity of the target.

Wanna get in on this ultra-violent, totally fun new series from the man who brought you classics like WANTED and OLD MAN LOGAN?

We’ve got issues 1 & 2 in stock now to catch you up to this week’s #3.

I know many of you are like me, and grew up during the Reign of Spawn, when this comic was the biggest thing on the stands, and you waited eagerly for the next installment.

And, if you ask me, it’s those first 50 issues or so, that really go down as some of the best comics in the last 20 or 30 years. Really fantastic stuff, delivering the goods each and every month.

Now, IMAGE has done something awesome, in following the trend of their recent INVINCIBLE and WALKING DEAD compendiums, they’ve reprinted the first 49 issues of SPAWN into one of their massive compendium editions for just $59.99.

Folks, this one is fantastic, and the fact that it features the rare collaborations that ALAN MOORE, FRANK MILLER, and GRANT MORRISON did with McFarlane for SPAWN, is a huge draw as well.

ARCHAIA, publishers of MOUSE GUARD, deliver an awesome new comic which blends CALVIN & HOBBES and SPAGHETTI WESTERNS into one killer read with COW BOY: A BOY AND HIS HORSE
COW BOY: A Boy and His Horse delivers an awesome new read from the fine folks at Archaia, who are most famous for their amazing modern fantasy series, MOUSE GUARD.

This fantastic graphic novel brings a real CALVIN & HOBBES kinbd of charm to the story of a young bounty hunter determined to send his outlaw family to jail. He travels the Old West on a horse that ain’t his, and won’t stop til everyone of his own flesh and blood are locked up in prison.

Featuring the creator of FRANKLIN RICHARDS: SON OF A GENIUS and MINI-MARVELS, Chris Eliopoulos, COW BOY is a blast for all ages, and we highly recommend checking it out. This is a fine addition to Archaia’s library of excellently presented graphic novels.

CHANNEL ZERO: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, COLLECTING “DMZ” & “NORTHLANDERS” writer BRIAN WOOD’S GROUND-BREAKING INDIE COMIX EPIC!
We were huge fans of BRIAN WOOD’s work on series like DMZ and NORTHLANDERS, but our first exposure to the awesomeness that is BRIAN WOOD, and his frequent co-collaborator, BECKY CLOONAN, was in the pages of CHANNEL ZERO.

Now, finally back in print, and collected all into one omnibus for the low price of $19.99, CHANNEL ZERO: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION is delivering Wood’s blistering take on media control in future America to the masses!

CHANNEL ZERO combines art, politics, and graphic design in a unique way that touches on themes of freedom of expression, hacking, cutting-edge media manipulation, and police surveillance.

It’s even more relevant today, than it was when it originally began in the late ’90s.

The CHANNEL ZERO Complete Collection reprints the original series, the prequel graphic novel JENNIE ONE, the best of the two PUBLIC DOMAIN design books, and almost fifteen years worth of extras, rarities, and short stories, as well as the now-classic introduction by WARREN ELLIS.

A must-read, make sure you snag a copy of this killer 300 page slab of awesome for a mere $20 this Wednesday!

DC NEW 52: WONDER WOMAN VOL.1 BLOOD arrives this Wednesday, collecting the first arc of the NEW 52 WONDER WOMAN series.

Another killer addition to the library of DC NEW 52 titles being collected into graphic novels, BRIAN AZZARELLO and CLIFF CHIANG’S WONDER WOMAN is AWESOME.

This hardcover collects the first six issues of the critically acclaimed new WONDER WOMAN series into one gorgeous graphic novel.

Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons, has kept a secret from her daughter all her life – and when Wonder Woman learns who her father is, her life will shatter like brittle clay.

The only one more shocked than Diana by this revelation? Bloodthirsty Hera – so why is her sinister daughter, Strife, so eager for the truth to be told?

Azzarello does a killer job with this one, bringing a GOD OF WAR-style level of horror to the world of WONDER WOMAN, while re-inventing the character for the DC NEW 52.

HACK/SLASH OMNIBUS VOL.4 – Our favorite slasher-hunter returns in a new omnibus edition! A must for fans of ’80s horror, b-movies, and just plain awesome horror comics!
We’re HUGE fans of Tim Seeley’s always amazing HACK/SLASH series, and we love the massive omnibus editions of the trade paperbacks that come out, ’cause lets face it: 300-400 pages of HACK/SLASH every few months is a pretty awesome thing.
What’s the scoop on HACK/SLASH? Meet Cassie Hack, the daughter of a “slasher”, and what’s a slasher? Slashers are undead that are so enraged, so vengeful, that they’re nearly impossible to kill, and keep returning from the grave to kill, kill, and kill. Or, in more simpler terms: a slasher is basically every crazed ’80s gore-maestro you can think of. Whether it’s Pinhead, or Freddy, or Jason, these are SLASHERS, and HACK/SLASH has them all.
Paying tribute to ’80s horror flicks, and b-movies galore, HACK/SLASH is a quirky, fun, bloody, and horrific read that balances the right amount of dark humor, the right amount of gore, and the right amount of strong storytelling to tell one hell of an awesome story.
This week’s Omnibus vol.4 collects 1-11 of the new HACK/SLASH ongoing series on IMAGE, HACK/SLASH ANNUALS 2 & 3, ZOMBIES VS. CHEERLEADERS, and the HACK/SLASH Holiday Special 2011. A big, thick tome of HACK/SLASH awesomeness.
Wanna jump on board HACK/SLASH? We’ve got omnibuses vol.1-3 in stock now, as well as MY FIRST MANIAC (the YEAR ONE-style origin story) to get you caught up.

STAFF PICKS
STEVE: BATMAN INCORPORATED #1- There’s very few guys out there who can constantly re-invent themselves, and Grant Morrison is one of them. Damn, this was great!
TRISH:  BATMAN INCORPORATED #1 - Totally weird, totally off the chain, and totally great, if BATMAN was an IMAGE book, it’d be BATMAN INCORPORATED.

SHAUN: ASTONISHING X-MEN #50 - Northstar has a simple task ahead of him: kick some ass, save the day, get the guy! (Also, Gambit needs to host a relationship talk show: Charge Up Your Love Life!)
