This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 8/22/12

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #692 -- A BRAND NEW ERA BEGINS FOR THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, AS HE DOES WHAT HE'S NEVER DONE BEFORE: TAKES A SIDEKICK!
JUMP ON BOARD WHAT HAS BEEN ONE OF THE MOST CONSISTENTLY AWESOME MARVEL TITLES ON THE STANDS WITH THIS FANTASTIC JUMPING ON POINT AND NEW ARC!
Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN!
Here's a freakin' awesome one, folks. Why? 'Cause it gives you the PERFECT chance to discover what has quickly become one of our favorite Marvel monthly series on the stands. Seriously, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN has just been climbing and climbing up our to-read list since Dan Slott came on board with issue #648, and with this Wednesday's AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #692, Marvel is giving you the perfect spot to jump onto the title.

And, what's the basis of this new arc? A character-changing storyline is beginning, one that shows us a side of Spider-Man, we've never seen before: Spidey is taking on his very own sidekick!

We've seen the teasers, and everyone has been asking: Who is Alpha? And, now, with Spider-Man's 50th Anniversary on the horizon, Marvel is going to show us a unique take on Spider-Man that's never been done before: him training a sidekick!

This special event is brought to us by the man who's been making Spidey such an addicting book for the last couple of years: Dan Slott, and on art, our favorite artist that's been a part of his team, Humberto Ramos.

Folks, you've heard us ranting, and raving for so long about how great Slott's Spider-Man has been, so now's your chance to find out for yourself how freakin' cool this book really is.

I'm telling you, the action-packed storytelling, the snappy dialogue, the fast and fluid art on each issue, everything comes together to really deliver everything you could possibly want in a good Spidey comic.

GET IT!

BEFORE WATCHMEN: DR. MANHATTAN #1 -- Another highly anticipated BEFORE WATCHMEN prequel launches this Wednesday featuring the art of ADAM HUGHES!
BEFORE WATCHMEN continues to impress, and I gotta tell ya, I loved the hell out of last week's RORSCHACH #1. I really was impressed, even with the high expectations I had for it going in, I was still blown away with how much I enjoyed that one.

Now, here comes the one that may rival RORSCHACH in terms of quality and sheer talent involved, the BEFORE WATCHMEN DR. MANHATTAN. This prequel features one of the most exciting creative teams that I've seen come together in comics in a long time with the uber-talented J. Michael Straczynski (RISING STARS, SUPREME POWER, SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE, THOR) and the legendary ADAM HUGHES (Every awesome cover of a comic you've seen.. too many to count!).

Just the fact that Hughes is doing interior art is a big freakin' deal. You NEVER see the guy doing interiors, and that tells you just how important that this one is going to be. Pairing him up with a talented storytelling like J. Michael Straczynski? Sheer awesome, Third Eye Faithful, sheer awesome.

Set before the events of WATCHMEN, just as Manhattan is beginning to lose his humanity in a major way.... BEFORE WATCHMEN DR MANHATTAN explores just how he ended up drifting away completely.

So freakin' cool, don't sleep on this one, Third Eye Faithful!

PROPHET TPB VOL.1 REMISSION -- Brandon Graham of KING CITY fame, delivers the coolest sci-fi comic of the year with PROPHET!
READ. THIS. COMIC!
Only $9.99 for the first trade!

Prophet was one of our favorite new series of this past year, with it's gorgeous eurocomics-inspired artwork, and it's heavy, dystopian sci-fi plot, so when we saw that the trade was dropping this Wednesday, AND, it was only $10... we fell out of our seats. Seriously. I'm typing this from the floor!

No, but for real, PROPHET is a must-read, Third Eye Faithful. This funky little book will blow your mind, as it practically crackles with raw imagination, and that kind of pure comic book energy that cannot be described. There's just something about it that screams AWESOME, and it's hard to pinpoint what.

I've made comparisons with SCOTT PILGRIM-style narrative devices, which are in turn inspired by video games, like inventory lists, and character stat boxes, but it's true, it really does capture that kind of feel.

On a distant future Earth, changed by time and alien influences, John Prophet awakes from cryosleep. His mission: to climb the towers of Thauili Van and restart the Earth empire. News of the Empire's return brings old foes and allies out of the recesses of the vast cosmos.

This stuff is so freakin' cool, and we are loving every second of it. The artwork is amaziiiiinnnng, and will totally captivate you in a major way, bringing you into this immersive, dystopian sci-fi dreamworld. You almost feel as if you are exploring the world yourself, alongside Prophet, due to the talented worldbuilding of Graham and his art-team on the book.

Highly recommended, Third Eye Faithful, we cannot give this one enough love. Seriously. You'll dig it!

And, for $10? What've you got to lose?

ROCKETEER: CARGO OF DOOM #1 DELIVERS A STUNNING TAKE ON THE CLASSIC PULP ICON FROM "DAREDEVIL" & "IRREDEEMABLE" writer MARK WAID and uber-talented artist CHRIS SAMNEE!

So, to say we're huge fans of Mark Waid here at Third Eye is a tad bit of an understatement. So, lets just say it: we are VERY huge fans of Mark Waid here at Third Eye. And, with his current DAREDEVIL run blowing our minds on a monthly basis, you gotta know we are stoked to see him bring his unique touch to the one, and the only, ROCKETEER, this Wednesday.

Featuring another Third Eye favorite, artist Chris Samnee (who totally rocked it on the hidden gem THOR: THE MIGHTY AVENGER, back in the day), ROCKETEER: CARGO OF DOOM is a new limited series celebrating the 30th anniversary of the ROCKETEER.

A ship docks in Los Angeles harbor from a far-off and exotic locale -- with a big, mysterious...and... living cargo! Danger and mayhem abound as our hero leaps into the fray! Plus, we introduce a lovely new character who will be vying against Betty for Cliff's affections.

Folks, Waid and Samnee nail it. This is, quite possibly, the best take on the ROCKETEER since the original classic incarnation by Dave Stevens, as Waid and Samnee perfectly capture that classic, pulp fiction tone that makes the original so unique.

Samnee's artwork is a perfect fit for the series, and we really cannot get enough of Waid's slick, and innovative storytelling here.

If you love Waid's work on DAREDEVIL, or are just a huge ROCKETEER fan, then this is a MUST!

WOLVERINE #312 *RETURN OF SABRETOOTH PT 3*-- The RETURN OF SABRETOOTH continues this Wednesday, and we are loving it!

WOLVERINE has turned into a must-read once again, as Jeph Loeb and artist Simone Bianchi deliver one of the freshest spins on the character that we have seen in a few years.

These two legendary creators, Loeb, known for his LONG HALLOWEEN and HUSH work with BATMAN, and BIANCHI known for his work on WOLVERINE EVOLUTION, are really kicking ass as they give us the WOLVERINE story we've been waiting for:

THE RETURN OF SABRETOOTH. I mean, c'mon, lets face it: if you grew up reading comics in the '80s or '90s, then Sabretooth stands the test of time as one of the most iconic bad guys of the Marvel Universe.

I mean, I think, to some degree, we can all visualize some representation of the now-classic Sabretooth murdering Silverfox scene with the wood cabin, and Wolverine freaking out upon the discovery of it.

So, to see Sabretooth back, and with an axe to grind, at the true caliber of bad-ass he should be written as, is pretty awesome.

Wanna get caught up? We've got issues #310 and #311 in stock now to catch you up to chapter 3 in this week's WOLVERINE #312.

SWAMP THING TP VOL.1 RAISE THEM BONES *THIRD EYE MUST BUY* -- FROM WRITER SCOTT SNYDER ( BATMAN: COURT OF OWLS, BATMAN: THE BLACK MIRROR, AMERICAN VAMPIRE) -- ONE OF THE BEST OF THE DC NEW 52 TITLES!
Folks, I've been preaching Snyder's SWAMP THING since the day that issue #1 hit our shelves, and I gotta tell you: if you still haven't picked up on this amazing series, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, grab the first trade this Wednesday and find out why this is one of the best damn comics in the NEW 52's arsenal!

Written by BATMAN: COURT OF OWLS maestro, as well as the super-talented author behind BLACK MIRROR, and AMERICAN VAMPIRE, SWAMP THING is unique blending of horror comics and superhero comics that just works perfectly.

Capturing the feel of early DC Vertigo, where there was still a strong connection to the DCU in those weird, dark, and adult titles like Moore's SWAMP THING and Gaiman's SANDMAN, SWAMP THING is a modern day example of just how interesting you can make a mainstream comic.

Yanick Paquette's artwork on it looks amazing, and really brings that Bernie Wrightson sense of energy to the book that helps make it so damn unique.

Alec Holland thought he knew the history of the Swamp Thing -- but he was wrong! The war between the Green and the Red has begun, and the knights of decay walk the Earth unchecked.

Introducing the concept of the ROT, and making Arcane a downright frightening bad guy, the new SWAMP THING is so damn good, it's ridiculous.

You want to walk out of the store with a slice of sheer comic goodness?

PLANETOID #3 -- A MUST FOR FANS OF PROPHET! PLANETOID IS SHEER SPACE MARINE GONE SPACE PIRATE AWESOMENESS! LIVING PLANETS, TECHNO-ORGANIC MONSTROSITIES, BAD-ASS WEAPONS... IT RULES!

Ken Garing's PLANETOID is one of the most interesting damn comics on the stands right now. I mean, IMAGE has been hitting home-run after home-run with their new series this year, and PLANETOID is a proud addition to the IMAGE library, seriously.

This dystopian slice of sci-fi awesomeness has much in common with the already praised and preached PROPHET up above, but it does many of those similar things in it's own unique and compelling way.

A post-apocalyptic deep space odyssey that's chockfull of ALIENS-style space marine awesomeness, PLANETOID is the story of Silas, a space marine turned space pirate marooned on an angry chunk of rock in the deepest parts of space. Before his first day is done there, he'll find himself fighting the planet itself, some killer lizards, and a giant mechanical monstrosity.

In issue #3, Silas discovers... well, we'll leave that up to your imagination. Half of the fun here is the surprises, as we're taken as readers through a dense, claustrophobic dark sci-fi world that's very reminiscent of the settings from ALIENS.

GOOD STUFF! Wanna get caught up? We've got issues 1 & 2 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #3.

MARS ATTACKS #3 -- The awesomeness that is IDW's MARS ATTACKS continues this Wednesday!

We are huge fans of the old school awesomeness that is MARS ATTACKS, and we gotta tell ya: IDW is killing it with the new MARS ATTACKS.

The invasion has begun, Third Eye Faithful, and CHEW writer JOHN LAYMAN is doing an awesome job of bringing us all the cattle decapitation, death-ray blasting Martian goodness we know and love about the MARS ATTACKS world!

Wanna get caught up? We've got issues 1 & 2 in stock now to get you up to speed with #3.

DEADPOOL KILLS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE #4 -- The brutal limited series concludes this Wednesday with DEADPOOL KILLS #4!
What more can we say, Third Eye Faithful? DEADPOOL KILLS is a freakin' hit, and we're loving every second of it.

It is what it says it is.. four blood-soaked issues of DEADPOOL losing his mind completely, flying off the deep end, and slaughtering the Marvel Universe.

You know you want it!

GRANT MORRISON'S THE INVISIBLES IS COLLECTED IN IT'S ENTIRETY INTO THIS AMAZING OMNIBUS!
The Invisibles is one of my personal favorite series of all time, Third Eye Faithful. I mean, I give it the bonafide Third Eye Steve seal of approval, because it really deserves every ounce of hype that it gets.

Now, collecting for the first time ever in one book: all 9 volumes of the INVISIBLES series, 1,500+ pages total, into one massive, deluxe omnibus... and when I tell you that $150 for this monster is a steal, I mean it.

This is a comic so heavy that Morrison has often made reference that he actually wrote the entire thing to be some kind of living entity. A hypersigil of sequential art that packs the kind of punch that only a good comic can.

Follow the adventures of THE INVSIIBLES, a secret organization out to battle the physical and psychic oppression brought upon humanity by the interdimensional alien gods of the Archons of Outer Church!

Yes, this is AWESOME.

It's difficult to sum up just what the INVISIBLES is in the limited space of one of these write-ups, so I'll just say this: without the INVISIBLES, the Wachowski brothers would have probably never made the original MATRIX films, and without the INVISIBLES, heck, we probably wouldn't have half the metatextual works of comic books and fiction we've seen since the '90s.

If Chuck Palhniuk and Phillip K. Dick got together, kicked beers, and put together a comic book... it'd be the INVISIBLES.

Heck, the main character, KING MOB, is a comic book representation of what Grant Morrison wanted to be at the time, and was his way of making it come to be, according to interviews he's given. I mean, how cool is that?

If you've never read the series, or if you're like me, and are already a monster fan... add this to your collection, Third Eye Faithful!

DRAGON AGE: THOSE WHO SPEAK #1 BRINGS A BRAND NEW ADDITION TO THE DRAGON AGE CANON!

As you found out from our write-up last month of that killer DRAGON AGE graphic novel ( still in stock and available now at Third Eye! ), we're huge fans of both BIOWARE and the DRAGON AGE mythos.

So, when we saw that DARK HORSE was bringing us more DRAGON AGE awesomeness, we thought it was too good to be true!

In DRAGON AGE THOSE WHO SPEAK #1, the lead writer of the BioWare DRAGON AGE games, tells a tale of a king that travels to an empire of evil mages to uncover teh fate of his lost father. Accompanied by the pirate captain Isabela and the underworld merchant Varric, King Alistair will stop at nothing to learn the truth -- even if it means battling an army of cultists single-handed!

AMERICA'S GOT POWERS #3 -- BRYAN HITCH'S STELLAR NEW IMAGE SERIES CONTINUES! IMAGINE THE HUNGER GAMES WITH SUPER
POWERS!

Man, we have been loving the heck out of AMERICA'S GOT POWERS. And, I gotta tell you, issue #3 was worth every bit of the wait, 'cause it freakin' KILLED.

Bryan Hitch's work on this book looks the best it has since his work on the original ULTIMATES stuff and THE AUTHORITY, and the story behind the book is just as good as the stellar artwork that brings it to life.

In the world of AMERICA'S GOT POWERS, a mega-popular reality TV contest show puts the young men and women across the globe with superpowers on TV to duke it out to the death.

Of course, there's a plethora of shady backroom dealings, and politics surrounding who wins, and who gets killed off the show, and hey, that's what makes this entertaining!

From zero to unlikely hero, Tommy Watts is the new face of America's Got Powers, the most-watched TV show on the planet! Behind the girls, galmour and glory though, there are hard personal truths to face... and when he does face them, Tommy may just break the world.

DANGER GIRL / GI JOE #2 -- J SCOTT CAMPBELL CONTINUES TO SERVE UP COMIC BOOK ASS-KICKERY WITH THE ULTIMATE IN CROSSOVERS: DANGER GIRL vs. GI JOE!

You know, you can totally see the influences that those GI JOE comics of yesteryear had on J SCOTT CAMPBELL and his action-packed comic series DANGER GIRL. And, as fans of both GI JOE and DANGER GIRL, we're pretty darn pumped to see this killer crossover between the two.

It's the most dangerous event of the summer, and the action continues right here! Cobra's surprise attack has brought the GI JOE team to its knees. But when Lady Jaye learns that Flint has gone missing behind enemy lines, she joins forces with the Danger Girls on a covert mission that aims to rescue her man and get the Joes back on their feet.

SUPERCROOKS #4 -- MARK MILLAR'S SUPER-VILLAIN OCEANS 11 COMES TO IT'S CONCLUSION THIS WEDNESDAY! A MUST-READ!
We are loving the hell out of Mark Millar's SUPERCROOKS. The writer of hits like KICK-ASS, HIT-GIRL, NEMESIS, OLD MAN LOGAN, and many more, delivers one heck of a read with this 4-issue limited series that brings his unique, ultra-violent, and darkly humorous voice to the superhero genre... or supervillain genre, shall we say?

SUPERCROOKS is the story of a gang of super-villains who can't commit a crime without one of the hundreds of thousands of superheroes in the U.S stumbling into them, and putting them in prison.

So, they decide to head to greener pasteurs: Spain! And, they plan the heist of a lifetime. One last job to set them on the path to retirement.

Of course, this will all go terribly wrong, right?

We've got issues 1-3 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #4!
