This Week's Highlights at Third Eye for Wednesday 10/10/12

MARVEL NOW BEGINS THIS WEDNESDAY WITH UNCANNY AVENGERS #1 & RED SHE-HULK #1
Join Us For Our UNCANNY AVENGERS #1 Launch Party!

Folks, let me start off by saying this: I was lucky enough to read one of the advance copies Marvel sent us of this, and I gotta tell you: IT WAS FANTASTIC.
Holy crap, this is the best the Avengers comics have been in a long, long time. I mean, we loved the hell out of Avengers vs. X-Men, but it's been a while since we've got really, truly excited about the regular ongoing AVENGERS series in the Marvel U.
But, bringing UNCANNY X-FORCE writer RICK REMENDER on as the flagship writer of the line was the perfect choice, and with ASTONISHING X-MEN: GIFTED artist JOHN CASSADAY handling art.... this book hits homeruns on both counts: story and art.
I mean, the book delivers everything you could want from a good Avengers series -- it's a good mix of fan-favorites and legendary icons. It captures the same kind of bigger-than-life action that the AVENGERS film does, while at the same time providing those clever character-building moments like Whedon did so well.
I really don't want to go into a ton of detail about what goes down in the first issue, because the surprises here are great, but let me lay out the basics:
1. If you've never read the AVENGERS before, or have been looking for an ideal place to jump on board, this is the perfect spot. It's the kind of fantastic Marvel read that someone who's been reading for 30 years, OR someone who just started, can pick up and appreciate.
2. Marvel is definitely channeling some NEW 52 energy here, as the Avengers have a very modern edge, and share the same kind of wit and bravado that their cinematic counter-parts did; but while still carrying the continuity of the Marvel U with them.
3. It's a great follow-up to Avengers vs. X-Men, and if you were reading that series, then this is pretty much a no-brainer. Ya gotta get it!
4. The villains in this are amazing. You'll know 'em. You'll love 'em. They've never been handled cooler.
5. What's the general plot / mission statement of the book? In the aftermath of AvX, Cap has taken to heart what Cyclops had said about the Marvel U not doing much in the way of helping mutantkind. He's integrating the X-Men into the Avengers, and the team is literally a combining of the X-Men and the Avengers into one. It's freakin' awesome.
As the flagship title of the MARVEL NOW line-up, UNCANNY AVENGERS works perfectly. It's a fresh, cutting edge title, and we love it. This is the center-piece of the new MARVEL UNIVERSE, and we highly recommend getting into it!
Join Us For Our MARVEL NOW Uncanny Avengers Launch Party!

MARVEL NOW: DON'T MISS OUT ON RED SHE-HULK #1! A TRUE SLEEPER HIT, THIS ONE LOOKS GREAT!
The only other MARVEL NOW launch title to drop this week is the brand new RED SHE-HULK ongoing series, and folks, I gotta tell you: don't sleep on this one, 'cause it has all the makings of a true sleeper hit.
I mean, most importantly: this was a fantastic read. Great artwork, and great storytelling with a character that normally wasn't really at the top of my list of must-reads.. but, after this first issue? I'm pretty hooked.
Who is Red She-Hulk? Well, during the evolution of the HULK series in the last decade, there was a RED HULK introduced, who we came to learn was the Hulk's eternal nemesis: General Thunderbolt Ross.
Shortly after, we learned that Ross' daughter, Betty, and the former love interest of Bruce Banner, had returned... as the RED SHE-HULK.
Now, she's getting her own solo spin, and in a very Captain Marvel manner ,this one has a great, fresh spin that's got us interested.
In RED SHE-HULK #1, we learn that the Marvel Universe's most powerful woman is on a one-way path of destruction... and her targets?
EVERY SINGLE SUPER-POWERED BEING IN THE MARVEL UNIVERSE.
Seriously.
We know it sounds crazy, but there's a clever twist here... and the way it's applied, is pretty damn awesome.
This book has a great feel and tone to it, it's action-packed, and clever as hell. There's also a nice dark streak of humor that runs through it, which is somewhere between the humor of the classic Byrne run of She-Hulk, and something you might see in a really good Deadpool story.
We dug it! Snag yourself a copy this Wednesday at Third Eye!

BATMAN: DEATH OF THE FAMILY begins and THE JOKER returns this Wednesday courtesy of COURT OF OWLS creative team SCOTT SNYDER & GREG CAPULLO in BATMAN #13! Jump On Board Now!
BATMAN has been... well, in all honesty, the best damn monthly superhero book on the stands. Since issue #1. Seriously. Every month. All the way awesome. Every issue.
So, when COURT OF OWLS / NIGHT OF OWLS began to wind down, and rumors swirled about Snyder & Capullo's next arc... we knew that this book was about to go from being great to legendary, and folks: we were right.
BATMAN #13 is the single coolest issue of BATMAN I have read in nearly two decades. This is the kind of BATMAN issue that you'll be seeing the cover of for years and years to come when people talk about great moments in Batman's past. This ranks up there alongside KILLING JOKE, folks. I'm serious: you're going to lose your minds when you read it.
Snyder & Capullo, as many of you know, are amazing. Their COURT OF OWLS / NIGHT OF OWLS storyline that's run through BATMAN 1-12 was one of the best BATMAN runs we've read in forever.
Now, imagine these two titans tackling the Clown Prince of Crime.. and his grand return to the DC NEW 52?
It's been over a year since we last saw the Joker -- and his face, which got sliced off at the end of Detective Comics.
Now, he's resurfaced, and he's worse than he ever was before.
His mission statement? The end game. This is it. The Family must DIE. Batman, Nightwing, Batgirl, the Robins... they're all going down, because the Joker knows his own game is nearing it's end... and, we cannot wait to see how this all plays out.
We've read some advance pages of the BATMAN #13, and I gotta tell you: it delivers, BIG TIME. Capullo delivers the most chilling Joker we've seen since Ledger's on-screen portrayal of him. And, Snyder? Snyder delves deep into his AMERICAN VAMPIRE / SEVERED roots, and delivers a psychopathic iconoclast of a villain that is easily the most disturbing JOKER we've seen since Alan Moore's take in the KILLING JOKE.
BATMAN #13 starts chapter 1, and then the story continues through the BAT-FAMILY books this Fall. If you just want to follow the main-line, the BATMAN is all you need, but the other tie-ins ARE very good -- and with Snyder masterminding the whole crossover, you know they're going to be crucial reads.
Below is a link to our official DEATH OF THE FAMILY Checklist. Check it out for the full scoop!

DEATH OF THE FAMILY PRELUDE: BATGIRL #13 -- All DEATH OF THE FAMILY Issues FEATURE super-rad DIE-CUT covers by CAPULLO!
One of the cooler features of the DEATH OF THE FAMILY arc is that Greg Capullo is providing some very unique, very special covers for each issue.
These are die-cut overlay covers that feature a heavier cardstock overlay of each character's mask ontop of the normal cover. These are the regular editions, and are very freakin' cool -- one of the coolest uses of cover design that we've seen in quite some time, to be honest.
This week, alongside BATMAN #13, comes BATGIRL #13, which is one of the crucial PRELUDE chapters of BATMAN: DEATH OF THE FAMILY, and is a must-have, Third Eye Faithful.
We all know Barbara's history with THE JOKER, right? I mean, THE KILLING JOKE is on it's way to becoming required reading in most schools, right? :) Seriously though, it's an iconic moment in comic history when the Joker reigned terror on the Gordon family, and the fallout from that was what happened to Barbara.
But, what's been even more iconic has been her journey back, and her recovery from the event that disabled her a long-time ago.
Now, The Joker is back.. and he remembers all too well what he did to Batgirl many years ago, and in issue #13 of this week's BATGIRL.. we see the DEATH OF THE FAMILY kick into high gear.
Make sure you give this one a read before you read BATMAN #13.

SAGA VOLUME 1 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY... AND IT'S ONLY $10.
ONE OF THE BEST NEW COMICS OF THE LAST 5 YEARS!
FROM THE WRITER OF "Y THE LAST MAN", "RUNAWAYS", & "EX MACHINA"
IMAGINE: "FIREFLY" / "SERENITY" meets "A GAME OF THRONES"
Folks, you've been listening to us preacher the awesomeness that is SAGA all summer long, and you know... if you haven't gotten into it yet: then you gotta get into it now.
I mean, the first six issues of this amazing new series for only $10? It's practically criminal to turn this one down, Third Eye Faithful. That's how great this book is, and how much of a steal $10 is for the first arc.
Written by the one and only BRIAN K. VAUGHAN, the author behind comic masterpieces like Y THE LAST MAN, EX MACHINA and RUNAWAYS, and illustrated by the uber-talented FIONA STAPLES, who wowed the heck out of us a few years ago on a slice of modern day Lovecraft called NORTH 40, SAGA is the definition of good comics.
It's hard to point out just one or two things that are great about this one, because really, it's just GOOD. It's like trying to point out why WALKING DEAD is so amazing... the whole thing is great, the art, the story, everything.
I think the thing that's unique about SAGA is that it really does an amazing job of crafting a fully-realized and immersive world, and if you think about it: that's what good comics do. WALKING DEAD, Y THE LAST MAN, THE SANDMAN, LOCKE & KEY, all these bright shining lights in the realm of modern classics... they create worlds so real, so fully realized, that you get lost in them. SAGA does this tenfold.
So, what's it about? Saga is the sweeping tale of one young family fighting to find their place in the worlds. When two soldiers from opposite sides of a never-ending galactic war fall in love, they risk everything to bring a fragile new life into a dangerous old universe. Fantasy and science fiction come together in a way that we've never seen before in this cutting edge, subversive drama for adults. This is the kind of emotionally-charged sci-fi epic that Hollywood WISHES it could make.. and the kind of great storytelling you'll only see in comics, folks.
Imagine a mix of STAR WARS, A GAME OF THRONES, AND SERENITY into one kick-ass package, and that sums up SAGA well.

EVIL ERNIE RETURNS THIS WEDNESDAY IN EVIL ERNIE #1 -- THE ORIGINAL MURDERING MADMAN IS BACK!
I grew up reading comics back in the '90s, and I'll tell ya, Third Eye Faithful, I used to snap up nearly every single thing Chaos Comics put out (maybe not Rack and Pain, or whatever that one was called, even 12 year old Steve knew that one was going to be a stinker!), and to this day, I've still got a soft spot for their brand of hyper-violent, death metal charged kinda comic books.
I mean, there's something that's almost alchemical about the connection between metal and comics, right? And, EVIL ERNIE, he was the ultimate embodiment of that crossover in comics fandom. If you were rockin' a King Diamond shirt circa '94, then you could bet you were walking out of the comic shop with Evil Ernie, Lady Death, and all that jazz.
So, after a looong absence, it looks like Dynamite is following Lady Death's footsteps, and bringing us a much-needed EVIL ERNIE revival. And all I can say is: AWESOME.
This is a new reader-friendly take on the character, and is a great spot to jump on board. What's it all about? Meet Ernest Fairchild. He was a kind and gentle soul.... until one day something in him snapped, leading him to one of the most notorious killing sprees in American history. With 665 kills to his name, "Evil Ernie" requires just ONE more murder to complete the ritual he started and seal his deal with the Devil.
Problem is: he's just been EXECUTED! What led an ordinary boy to become a leather-clad angel of death? How does he wield such blasphemous power? And what is the secret behind his hideous smiley-face button? This October, you may hate the sin, but you'll love the sinner.
The new EVIL ERNIE takes up deep into the heart of darkness of the character, and racks up a pretty crazy body count in the process.
A must for fans of AVATAR PRESS'S horror stuff like CROSSED, as well as fans of the classic EVIL ERNIE stuff.

AVENGERS VS. X-MEN: CONSEQUENCES #1 EXPLORES THE IMMEDIATE AFTERMATH OF THE AVENGERS VS. X-MEN WAR!
Big-time Third Eye Favorite, Kieron Gillen (JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY) brings his talents to this kick-ass  limited series that explores the fallout surrounding the recently concluded AVENGERS VS. X-MEN, and we're pretty pumped to see the story he's got to tell.
As many of you guys know after reading last week's AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #12, Cyclops kind of went out in a blaze of glory, and in a weird way, got what he set out to accomplish: the prolonged existence of mutantkind.
Now, with mutants popping up across the world, and the Marvel Universe as a whole moving in a new direction, we're eager to see how both the X-Men, and the Avengers, are going to handle this.

AME COMI GIRLS FEAT. WONDER WOMAN #1 DELIVERS KICK-ASS ANIME-INFLUENCED SPINS ON DC'S GREATEST HEROINES!
Featuring art by AMANDA CONNER!
As avid toy geeks, we're pretty big fans of the awesome PVC statues DC DIRECT has been doing called AME*COMI, which are super rad anime-influenced designs of the DC Universe's greatest heroine's.
So, when we saw that Third Eye fan-favorites Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray, and the one and only Amanda Conner were doing an AME*COMI GIRLS comic? We thought that was like the best thing ever.
This stand-alone story features a kick-ass Wonder Woman tale that features Wonder Woman fending off an attack on Themyscira, but done in the hyper-energetic, and totally rad Ame*Comi style.
Totally worth checking out, snag yourself a copy this Wednesday!

HALLOWEEN EVE ONE-SHOT KICKS OFF AN OCTOBER FILLED WITH AWESOME HALLOWEEN-THEMED COMICS, AND FEATURES ARTWORK BY THE SUPER AWESOME AMY REEDER (BATWOMAN)!
Image Comics always delivers, and as huge fans of Halloween in general, when we saw they were bringing out a very cool seasonal one-shot by one of our favorite artists, Amy Reeder, we knew we were in for a real treat.
Meet Eve. Eve's got an imagination that's more than active -- it can be downright dangerous. Working late at the costume super-store Halloween Land, she gets lost in her own thoughts until something goes bump in the night. The rubber masks and plastic novelties are coming to life, and Eve must face ghosts, goblins, and gorilla suits that've come to life.
High fantasy and heartbreak in an oversized holiday one-shot, Halloween Eve is a blast, Third Eye Faithful, and it reads and looks great.

The MARVEL U VS. AVENGERS is the culmination of the events of MARVEL UNIVERSE VS. THE PUNISHER and MARVEL UNIVERSE VS. WOLVERINE.
And, it is AWESOME.
Picture this: a disease breaks out that turns the heroes of the Marvel U into blood-thirsty cannibals, who's hunger can never be filled.
This is the tale of the war. The descent into monstrosity that became the Avengers, and it shows all the gory details how the Earth's Mightiest Heroes became it's greatest Destroyers.

STUFF OF LEGEND: THE TOY COLLECTOR #1 CONTINUES THE INCREDIBLE TALE OF THE STUFF OF LEGEND!
A MUST FOR FANS OF FABLES, MOUSE GUARD AND JOE THE BARBARIAN!
IMAGINE TOY STORY MEETS SAVING PRIVATE RYAN IF IT WAS DIRECTED BY GUILEMO DEL TORO!
As you guys know, we're long-time fans of the STUFF OF LEGEND here at Third Eye. So, whenever the fine folks at Th3rd World Studios launch something new -- we take notice.
This is the fourth installment in the fantastic modern fantasy series that's captivated us for nearly 5 years now, and folks, things are really starting to heat up here.
What's the STUFF OF LEGEND about? Picture this: a young boy is kidnapped by the Boogeyman while his father is fighting overseas in WW2. His trusty toys come to life to rescue their master, and upon crossing over to the Boogeyman's realm, they turn into real world equivalents of themselves. So, the teddy bear goes from cute and cuddly to gigantic and ferocious, and so forth.
But, the Boogeyman has an army of his own: the lost and forgotten toys of the boy he's kidnapped -- and rejection is a good morale-builder, ya know?
From there, we're taken on a fantastic journey that grabs a hold of you and does not let go. The look of this book is amazing, with a sepia-tone coloring, and a dreamy storybook kind of feel that goes perfectly with Raicht's rock solid story.
In THE TOY COLLECTOR, scattered across THE DARK, the boy's loyal toys, once so eager to save him, have lost their way. Not only are they each battling the Boogeyman's minions, but their own doubts as well. As the toys fall farther into despair, the Boogeyman continues to tip the scales in his favor. The Dark One does not play fair, and he has recovered an item that may very well make him unbeatable. Could all hope be lost?
Wanna get into the STUFF OF LEGEND? We recommend snagging the STUFF OF LEGEND OMNIBUS VOL.1, which collects the first two series into one gorgeous hardcover, for only $29.99, and is a great way to get a big chunk of the story so far.
We've also got the books available in individual softcover editions as well!
Either way, we can pretty much promise you, it will be one of your favorite new series of the year!

TRANSFUSION #1 -- MONOCYTE ARTIST MENTON3 TEAMS UP WITH "30 DAYS OF NIGHT" writer STEVE NILES TO TELL A HORRIFIC SCI-FI STORY OF A FUTURE WHERE MONSTERS AND MACHINES BECOME ONE!
H.R GIGER FANS, TAKE NOTE!
Last year's MONOCYTE was one of the coolest looking comics we read, with it's dark fantasy stylings, and amazing artwork.
Now, MONOCYTE artist MENTON3 has teamed up with STEVE NILES (30 DAYS OF NIGHT) to tell a new story, and folks, this one kicks ass.
A true horror/sci-fi hybrid that grabs a hold of you and doesn't let go, TRANSFUSION is the story of a future overrun by out-of-control machines adn monsters, and the handful of human survivors who try to fight their way back to a normal life.
But what's normal in a world where both monsters and machines need human blood? And, which are the real bad guys?
This is a really cool idea -- robots fueled by human blood? Monsters that thirst for human blood? And, the dwindling human population stuck in the middle?
And, of course, the star of the show here is Menton3's incredible artwork, which is somewhere between H.R Giger and Frank Frazetta.
Folks, if you're into good horror comics, or just gorgeous art, we highly recommend getting this one on Wednesday!

NEW 52: NIGHTWING VOL.1 TRAPS & TRAPEZES (ISSUES 1-7) ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, COLLECTING THE FIRST ARC OF THE KICK-ASS NEW 52 NIGHTWING RUN!
A Great Companion Piece to BATMAN: COURT OF OWLS.
We're huge fans of NIGHTWING here at Third Eye, and the current run of the character, featuring GATES OF GOTHAM co-writer KYLE HIGGINS has had us hooked since issue #1. As one of the NEW 52 that didn't receive second printings on the earlier issues (3 and 4 to be exact), we know there's been a lot of you guys who've been eagerly awaiting the release of this trade, and we're pretty stoked to say it's finally here!
This is the best run of NIGHTWING we've read since the early Chuck Dixon / Scott McDaniel stuff from wayyyy back in the day, and it's a great companion piece to the Snyder BATMAN stuff.
The first arc focuses on Haly's Circus, where Grayson once performed, and it's return to Gotham City. And, with the return of the Circus, has come murder, mystery, and superhuman evil.
Grayson embarks on a journey to uncover the mystery behind the circus, as an unknown assassin is targeting him.
From there.. things get interesting, and this one makes a very nice lead-in to what goes down in the COURT OF OWLS, as Grayson learns some very dark secrets about his circus roots.

THE SEQUEL TO LAST YEAR'S CASTLE: DEADLY STORM.
We know there's a ton of you guys who're just like us, and totally dig the TV series CASTLE. I mean, heck, we'll watch just about anything Nathan Fillion is in, because we're that big of fans of FIREFLY. But seriously, CASTLE is a blast.
This sequel to the critically acclaimed DEADLY STORM arrives this Wednesday, as we're given the next Derrick Storm novel, where the private investigator is hired to bug an African head of state's hotel suite -- but the routine mission quickly spirals out of control when Storm overhears a woman's terrifying scream on the wire.
Plagued by the victim's helpless cry, Storm -- despite an ominous warning -- investigates. Soon, he'll discover an international conspiracy reaching further than he ever imagined -- and perhaps the truth about Clara Strike, a CIA agent the world thinks is dead!

GREEN LANTERN CORPS #13 *THE RISE OF THE THIRD ARMY CHAPTER 2* -- The RISE OF THE THIRD ARMY CONTINUES IN THIS WEDNESDAY'S GREEN LANTERN CORPS #13
It's official, Third Eye Faithful: the GREEN LANTERN titles are top-of-the-pile must-reads once again, and it's all due in part to Geoff Johns's killer new arc: THE RISE OF THE THIRD ARMY.
John Stewart discovers the arrival of a new Green Lantern on Earth, but before he can brief Baz on his destiny: the Third Army strikes, and all hell breaks loose.
For those of you not already keeping up on the RISE OF THE THIRD ARMY arc, here's the scoop:
This is probably the biggest GL arc since BLACKEST NIGHT, and so far, has been the best GL arc since BLACKEST NIGHT. What's it about? The Guardians (those little blue guys who invented the Corps) have grown tired of failing in their effort to bring peace and order to the galaxy.
First, they failed with the soulless Manhunter androids, and now they feel they've failed with the reckless Lantern Corps.
What's left to do? Create a THIRD army. An army that's able to reason, but isn't as free-willed as the Lantern Corps... but to do this, they have to terminate EVERY SINGLE LANTERN that's currently operating, and that, Third Eye Faithful, is where things get kick-ass.
Wanna get on board? We've got the prologue (GREEN LANTERN ANNUAL #1), and the first two chapters, GREEN LANTERN #0 and GREEN LANTERN #13 in stock now to get you caught up to date.

HOLY CRAP... IS THIS REAL? A MACGYVER COMIC BOOK? YES IT IS! IMAGE COMICS REVIVES MACGYVER THIS WEDNESDAY IN MACGYVER: FUGITIVE GAUNTLET #1... AND IT'S AWESOME!
This book wins just on the sheer awesomeness of Image Comics deciding to do a MacGyver comic.. I mean, that alone, is pretty damn cool.
Seriously though, it may be a long time since we've watched MacGyver, but who didn't grow up in the '80s and '90s, and not understand the transition from name to verb that was the term MacGyver? I mean, that's a pop culture icon, right there, Third Eye Faithful.
This new series, featuring writing by the actual creator of MacGyver, Lee David Zlotoff, brings the return of MacGyver! When an old friend calls for help, Mac becomes involved in a web of industrial espionage, murder, and a white-knuckle pursuit across the globe with a million dollar hit on his head. Can he live long enough to save hte world -- or has his luck finally run out? And, how does he handle doing what he does, as the rigors of age begin to take their toll?

SECRET SERVICE #4 CONTINUES MARK MILLAR'S CUTTING-EDGE, DARKLY HUMOROUS, AND TOTALLY ULTRA-VIOLENT RE-INVENTION OF THE SUPER-SPY GENRE!
From the creator who brought you KICK-ASS, SUPERIOR, NEMESIS, and more, with the CO-CREATOR AND ARTIST OF WATCHMEN, DAVE GIBBONS!
What makes a special agent? What did James Bond have to go through to become 007? This is the theme that writer Mark Millar explores in this kick-ass new series, and we're loving every second of it.
All of Millar's skills are in play here, bringing us a darkly humorous, ultra-violent, and clever spin on the super-spy genre, and there's no punches being pulled at all.
Meet Gary. Gary kind of sucks at life. He's gotten a bad card dealt with him, and he's not doing anything to make it any better.
In steps his Uncle, a shadowy special agent kind of guy who decides that the only way Gary's going to not end up a total waste is if he brings him into the life.
But, not everyone is cut out for the life of a super-spy... and we quickly learn that it's make or break time for Gary, as his Uncle steps in to show him the ropes.
Plus: Mark Hamill (you know, Luke Skywalker, right?) gets killed by a Snowmobile in the first issue.
How can this not rock?

THINK TANK #3 -- THIS NEW IMAGE SERIES HAS US HOOKED! A MUST FOR FANS OF TRANSMETROPOLITAN! FIGHTING THE MAN... WITH SCIENCE!
THINK TANK has been one of the best surprises of the Fall for us here at Third Eye, as we're totally hooked on this on killer series that came out of nowhere and impressed the hell out of us.
Meet Dr. David Loren. He's had enough. Enough of what? Well, death, destruction, and all that... by his own hands. What else? The high-ranking military men who control his life. And, anything else? The corrupt arms companies that profit from war worldwide.
See, David Loren, he's a genius.. and most of his adult life has been in the employ of the government; making weapons. Nasty weapons that do some very nasty things.
But, David, he's wised up, and now he's on the run... but they're not letting their investment away that easily.
So, what's our genius to do? Fight the man with science.
Folks, this book has been a freakin' blast. I can't recommend it enough.
Wanna get on board? We've got issues 1 & 2 in stock now to get you up to this Wednesday's #3.

FRANKENSTEIN: AGENT OF SHADE #13 *ROTWORLD TIE-IN!* -- MAKE SURE TO SNAG THIS TIE-IN TO ANIMAL MAN AND SWAMP THING'S ROTWORLD CROSSOVER!
So, we're pretty darn amped up about this whole ROTWORLD thing that's running through the already awesome SWAMP THING and ANIMAL MAN books, so when we saw that ANIMAL MAN writer JEFF LEMIRE'S other series, FRANKENSTEIN: AGENT OF SHADE, was going to be tying into the event -- we knew that was a perfect fit.
The FRANKENSTEIN series itself has been a kick-ass little sleeper hit amongst the NEW 52, with a very HELLBOY meets DCU kinda vibe going for it.
This issue starts the 3-part tie-in to ROTWORLD, with ROTWORLD: SECRETS OF THE DEAD.
The arc focuses on Frankenstein fending off the Rot's invasion against the here and now, while SWAMP THING and ANIMAL MAN travel to the Rot-infested future that awaits.
A must for anyone following the ROTWORLD saga, this was a pretty awesome read.
Wanna go back further on FRANKENSTEIN? We've got issues 1-12 in stock now to get you up to current, but if you just want to do the ROTWORLD arc, you can jump on with issue #13.

DAMSELS #2 CONTINUES THE CUTTING EDGE DARK SPIN ON THE CLASSIC FAIRY-TALE FEMME FATALES! CINDERELLA, SLEEPING BEAUTY, THE LITLE MERMAID, SNOW WHITE AND MORE!
The new DAMSELS series from DYNAMITE is pretty bad-ass. It's very reminiscent of the Zenescope WONDERLAND stuff, but still brings enough of it's own spin to make it something cool and different.
Focusing on classic fairy-tale characters like The Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Rapunzel, and more, Damsels weaves a dark, and compelling modern fantasy story that ties all these characters together.
In issue #2, we're shown that Queen Rapunzel and King Persine are still reeling from the discovery of a mysterious spy in their midst. The loyal subjects of Caumont must be made aware of the sinister magical threat before it's too late, ya know? Meanwhile, having made her escape from Caumont, Rapa is still struggling to make sense of her situation... and determining if she can trust the amphibian girl who saved her life.
If you're a fan of FABLES, or GRIMM FAIRY TALES, you'll totally dig DAMSELS.
We've got issue #1 in stock now to get you caught up to this Wednesday's #2.

STUMPTOWN #2 -- THE BEST CRIME COMIC YOU'RE NOT READING! If you love FATALE / CRIMINAL, then you gotta be reading STUMPTOWN! A MUST FOR FANS OF "BREAKING BAD", "THE WIRE", and "SONS OF ANARCHY"
Stumptown has GOTTA be one of my favorite comics on the stands. I love this series so damn much, and I WANT YOU TO LOVE IT TOO! Seriously, folks, trust me: this is the definition of great crime comics. If you've loved the awesomeness that is BRUBAKER & PHILLIPS on CRIMINAL / INCOGNITO / FATALE, then you'll totally dig Rucka & Southworth's STUMPTOWN.
What's it about? It's a hardboiled crime story set in Oregon, starring a private investigator and former bounty hunter known as Dex Parios, and she's got one hell of a gambling problem.
In STUMPTOWN: THE CASE OF THE BABY IN THE VELVET CASE, Dex Parios finds herself hot on the heels of guitarist Mim Bracca's missing 'baby.' But what do a pair of gangsters and the D.E.A want with a rock star's M.I.A guitar?
Art, story, the whole shebang, STUMPTOWN is just plain good comics, folks. Snag issue 1 and give it a try.
Wanna get on board? We've got plenty of issue 1 in stock now to catch you up to Wednesday's #2.

MINIMUM CARNAGE CHAPTER 2 ARRIVES IN THE PAGES OF SCARLET SPIDER #10 THIS WEDNESDAY, AS THE NEW AND IMPROVED CARNAGE BEGINS TO RACK UP HIS BIGGEST BODYCOUNT YET!
OK, first off, let me start by saying that we have been HUGE fans of the current run of SCARLET SPIDER, Third Eye Faithful. We love the anti-hero kinda spin on the character, and I mean, c'mon: it's a Spider-Man that has no issues with killing. All the power, none of the responsibility, right?
Imagine if Marvel had their own riff on DC's RED HOOD character: it'd be the SCARLET SPIDER.
This week, in SCARLET SPIDER #10, which picks up where last week's MINIMUM CARNAGE ALPHA left off (which is still in stock and available to get you caught up), VENOM and the SCARLET SPIDER come to blows as they are forced to work together to take out a new, bigger, and more brutal than before CARNAGE.
I gotta tell ya: VENOM and SCARLET SPIDER have both been fantastic, and this MINIMUM CARNAGE storyline is a great opportunity to jump on board with both titles.
Wanna get on board? We've got last week's MINIMUM CARNAGE ALPHA one-shot in stock and available now to catch you up to this week's chapter 2 in SCARLET SPIDER #10.

ACME NOVELTY LIBRARY'S CHRIS WARE'S BUILDING STORIES ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY -- A CLASSIC IN THE MAKING! CHECK OUT THIS AMAZING GRAPHIC NOVEL!
You know, when I sold my comic collection to fund the birth of Third Eye, one of the series I could not let go was Chris Ware's ACME NOVELTY LIBRARY. I remember searching high and low for those when they first came out as a teenager, and to this day, I still cherish those killer artifacts of comic goodness.
Building Stories is not just a great story, but an impressive book. Ware knows how to craft a fascinating piece of comic goodness, and just the scope and artistry of how the book is put together is downright amazing. Heck, even the way it feels in your hands is impressive.
Building Stories follows the inhabitants of a three-flat Chicago apartment house: a 30-year-old woman who has yet to find someone with whom to spend the rest of her life; a couple (possibly married) who wonder if they can bear each other's company for another minute; and finally, an elderly woman who never married and is the building's landlady. The scope, the ambition, and the emotional heft of this project are beyond anything I've seen before, and I highly recommend giving this a look.

POINT OF IMPACT #1 -- NEAR DEATH writer JAY FAERBER debuts a stellar crime mini-series with POINT OF IMPACT this Wednesday!
We're big fans of crime comics here at Third Eye, and we totally dug Jay Faerber's NEAR DEATH last year, so when we saw he was venturing back to the genre with a new series, we were pretty stoked.
The art in this looks fantastic, and Faerber tells a gripping, provocative story that starts with one woman's murder and branches out to follow the investigation by three people with personal connections to her: her husband, an investigative reporter; her lover, an ex-soldier; and her friend, a homicide detective.
The death of this one woman changes all of their lives in a major way.
Snag a copy this week, if you're into the crime stuff, you'll totally dig it!

CROSSED: BADLANDS TRADE PAPERBACK ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, BRINGING THE RETURN OF ORIGINAL CROSSED CREATORS GARTH ENNIS & JACEN BURROWS!
CROSSED: BADLANDS has definitely been one of our favorite runs of the harrowing survival horror series from AVATAR PRESS yet, and we're pretty pumped to see the first arc of this no-holds-barred series hitting the stands in trade this week.
Featuring the return of fan-favorite original CROSSED creative team GARTH ENNIS & JACEN BURROWS, this first volume of CROSSED: BADLANDS starts things off with issues 1-9 of BADLANDS.
When the worldwide outbreak transforms most of humanity into murderous psychopaths, the uninfected survivors are driven by desperation to the very brink of sanity and morality. In Scotland, a young man devastated by the traumatic death of his wife struggles to survive the roving bands of Crossed at his heels.
What's CROSSED all about? If you're not already into this one, we highly recommend going back and checking out the first volume and getting into it. CROSSED is a survival horror story where the disease doesn't turn those infected into mindless zombies, but instead reduces human beings to a state of pure, primal sadism and evil. In other words: they just want to dish out as much pain as possible.
The thing that really makes CROSSED freaky though? They're still sentient, they're still able to rationalize what they're doing, and to form strategies of how to do it better and more effectively.
Imagine a zombie outbreak, but the zombies knew HOW to get you out of your house. Imagine them flying planes, driving cars, and using automatic weapons to hunt you down. That is the reality of CROSSED.
Great artwork, great storytelling, and no-holds-barred splatterpunk sensibilities, CROSSED is a MUST-HAVE, Third Eye Faithful!

STAFF PICKS
STEVE: AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #12 - This may be the most satisfying conclusion to a big event story I've read. Perfect in every way.
TRISH: AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #12 - I went from hating Cyclops early on, to rooting for him near the end. THAT'S GOOD WRITING!
TORMA:  AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #12 - EVERYTHING I love about Marvel Comics -- incredible!
SHAUN:  AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #12 -  From start to finish, this has been one of the best things I've followed all summer!
RYAN: FASHION BEAST #2 - I don't know what it is exactly about this book that I love it so much. It could be that it's from the desk of Alan Moore. Or it could be the absolutely off the wall story but either way, this is a great book.
JOHN: DANGER CLUB #4  - What can I say. It totally blew my mind!
