This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 10/24/12

BEDLAM #1 -- AN EARLY ARRIVAL AT THIRD EYE COMICS, SNAG YOUR COPY OF THE THIRD EYE VARIANT OF BEDLAM THIS WEEK FOR OUR SIGNING WITH NICK SPENCER & RILEY ROSSMO!
What Would Happen.. if the Joker was cured?
Folks, we all know that IMAGE has a reputation for putting out cutting-edge, and compelling series. This isn't news, folks. Image is the bomb.
But, every so often, there's a new ongoing series from Image that practically explodes with awesomeness upon release, and we've seen that before with books like SAGA, REVIVAL, MORNING GLORIES, WALKING DEAD, and many more.
BEDLAM is one of those kinds of books. When we first saw this series bouncing around, we knew we had to do something special for it. I'd only read a couple of pages, and I was already sold.  This is probably one of the comics I'm most excited for this year, and I'm so pumped to be able to have two of Third Eye's favorite creators: NICK SPENCER (Bedlam writer, as well as the man behind MORNING GLORIES, THIEF OF THIEVES, INFINITE VACATION, ULTIMATE X-MEN, and more) and RILEY ROSSMO (the artist of DEBRIS, GREEN WAKE, WILD CHILDREN, COWBOY NINJA VIKING, PROOF and more) here at the store to kick off the release of BEDLAM on Friday.
So, before I go any further, let's talk about just what BEDLAM is all about, 'cause I know you guys are all wondering:
BEDLAM is the story of Fillmore Press, who once went by the name MADDER RED, a homicidal maniac and criminal overlord who terrorized the town of Bedlam for years. But, after imprisonment, and years of intense therapy: Fillmore was cured.
And, now, he's come back to BEDLAM, with a town of misery and pain waiting for him. What happens when you let the devil back into town? This is what happens.
Picture this: if you took THE JOKER, the creepiest, most homicidal portrayal of the Joker you could conjure up, and then had him finally rehabilitated in ARKHAM ASYLUM, and brought back to Gotham.. what would happen? How would the police react? How would society react? And, what kind of copycat crimes would this once infamous killer inspire with his return?
Half the fun of BEDLAM is that you don't know which way Fillmore is going to lean, you don't know if he'll snap back to his old ways, or if he'll try to redeem himself... but we can promise you this: this will be the darkest take on costumed villains you read all year.
Mark Millar's NEMESIS? This blows it away. IRREDEEMABLE? Not even closer. Folks, there is ONLY Bedlam, and with Spencer's fantastic talent of being able to craft a compelling yet horrific story with strong characters, and plenty of plot twists, combined with Riley Rossmo's amazing, nightmarish artwork, it's easy to see why we're so pumped for this book.
Check out the preview, and get stoked for what's sure to be the biggest IMAGE book of the winter.

SCOTT SNYDER'S TALON #1 DROPS THIS WEDNESDAY, SPINNING STRAIGHT OUT OF THE PAGES OF BATMAN: COURT OF OWLS, AND FOLLOWING THE ONLY TALON WHO WAS ABLE TO ESCAPE THE COURT!
A MUST-READ!
TALON's #0 issue really impressed us last month, as it showed us the origins of this exciting new addition to the DC Universe courtesy of COURT OF OWLS writer SCOTT SNYDER, and now we're pretty pumped to see the direction that the series is heading in.
We were huge fans of the BATMAN: COURT OF OWLS arc, so seeing Snyder getting a playground to continue to explore and build the mythology behind the Court is pretty awesome.
What's it all about? After many years on the run, Calvin Rose, returns to Gotham City to investigate the fallout from "NIGHT OF THE OWLS."
Can the Court of Owls finally be defeated? Is Calvin Rose going to finally get the one thing he's been seeking his entire life? Freedom?
And, who is Calvin Rose, those of you who didn't read the #0 yet, may be asking... Calvin Rose was the only Talon to break the programming of the Court, and escape their control. Living on the run, and using the training he received as one of the Court's clawed hit men, Calvin is now ready to confront the Court and take it down once and for all.
The series is an exciting opportunity for Snyder to build on the plot points and mythology of the Court of Owls that he explored in the first 12 issues of BATMAN.
We really dug issue #1, and loved Guillem March's stunning artwork on it, and Snyder, Tynion IV, and March are really a perfect team for this one. Just like Snyder and Capullo were able to bring a unique kind of feel to their BATMAN run, Snyder, Tynion and March are doing the same thing with Talon.
Highly recommended, Third Eye Faithful, do NOT miss out on what's shaping up to be one of the best new DC titles to launch this year.
Wanna get caught up? We've got issue #0 in stock and available still to get you on board with this week's #1.

PUNISHER: WAR ZONE #1 -- The Punisher's Suicide Mission Begins = THE MARVEL UNIVERSE MUST DIE! Punisher vs. The Avengers and more! This looks epic!
At the dawn of MARVEL NOW, the Punisher unleashes his fury!
Marvel's gotten us pretty stoked for this one, and has already teased our appetites for something like this with WHAT IFs like DEADPOOL KILLS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE, and MARVEL UNIVERSE VS. THE AVENGERS.
But, this is it, folks, the real deal: in the aftermath of AVENGERS VS. X-MEN, and at the dawn of the MARVEL NOW launch... the PUNISHER has finally lost it, and we can only think that this is what leads him being brought onto the new THUNDERBOLTS team launching with MARVEL NOW.
The Punisher has hunted the worst that the criminal underworld of the Marvel Universe could offer him. He's been on a one-man crusade for years, and all along the way, he's received no assistance from the Earth's Mightiest Heroes, in wiping out the existence of the scum that's plagued the cities of the Marvel U.
In fact, he's only been halted, and delayed by the presence of the superheroes in the Marvel Universe.
Now, something... and we don't want to reveal what that something is, has made Frank Castle snap. He's had it. He knows his time is running short, and that maybe the answer to ending the worst that the criminal underworld has to offer... is by eliminating the men and women who have such a hard time putting an end to it.
Of course, there's a little more to it than just that, and we'll hold back from saying anything about that.
Just trust us: the Punisher. Hunting the Avengers. For real. Not a WHAT IF. Not an imaginary tale. This is the real deal, and is a MUST-READ, Third Eye Faithful!

It's no secret, Third Eye Faithful, we're all huge ADVENTURE TIME fans here at Third Eye. We've especially loved what BOOM! has done with the comics, and we're really stoked to see that ADVENTURE TIME creator PENDLETON WARD is launching something totally new with this Wednesday's BRAVEST WARRIORS!

THE FLASH #13 -- GORILLA WARFARE begins in this issue! GORILLA GRODD VS. CENTRAL CITY? This is going to rule!
We've been singing the praises of DC's NEW 52 Flash run for quite some time now, but we're going to keep on doing so, because folks, it's really THAT great, and deserves to gain a bigger readership.
Manapul's art really makes this book the best looking Flash we've ever read, and he is a total and perfect fit for the character.
This week's FLASH #13 is a great spot to jump no board the series, as it kicks off a brand new arc, featuring one of the coolest Flash bad guys of all-time: GORILLA GRODD!
And, that's not all.... it also features Flash teaming up with our own favorites, the Rogues, as they have to defend CENTRAL CITY from an invasion by Grodd's Gorilla Armies!
This is going to be ridiculous, over-the-top superhero fun, and we cannot wait to see how it all comes together!

REVIVAL #4 -- ONE OF OUR FAVORITE NEW IMAGE SERIES OF 2012 CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH REVIVAL #4
Revival has been one of my favorite new IMAGE series to debut htis past Summer, and each issue has delivered another piece of big-time comic book goodness.
This fantastic horror/crime drama about a murder in small-town Wisconsin that turns into a supernatural thriller by the end of issue #1 has us HOOKED.
With the entire town quarantined, our protagonist, a police officer who's determined to solve a murder, no matter how many living dead stand in her way, is dealing with the fallout of the weirdness that's captured her town.
Not quite zombies, the "revivers", are individuals who've died and then gotten back up, and started walking around. No hunger for brains, but definitely not as normal as they once were.
REVIVAL is a little hard to describe without ruining some of the surprises and plot twists that make it so damn good, so we'll just say this: you will NOT find a creepier, more chilling comic on the stands right now. This book takes the strong character development, and well-paced plotting of something like SAGA or WALKING DEAD, and combines it with a Twin Peaks kinda eerie that will leave you sleeping with the lights on.
Folks, trust us: this is one you gotta read.

BATMAN INCORPORATED #4 -- ONE OF OUR FAVORITE BAT-BOOKS CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY! FROM THE WRITER OF "HAPPY", GRANT MORRISON!
BATMAN INC is one of our personal favorites here at Third Eye, and you know, it's crazy, 'cause with how good many of the other Bat-books being (with Snyder's being our main favorite), it's easy to overlook just how fantastic Morrison's BATMAN stuff continues to be.
The way that DC has been treating the BATMAN INC title has been kind of cool too, as it kind of operates on it's own, in continuity, but at a different point in time than what's happening in the other NEW 52 Bat-books. This gives the book a lot of freedom to do pretty much whatever the heck it wants. And, when you've got Grant Morrison writing something.... freedom is a good thing!
This is probably our favorite Morrison BATMAN stuff since Grant's original BATMAN AND ROBIN run with artist FRANK QUITELY. The weirdness is there, the detective-oriented BATMAN nature is there, and Morrison is really driving home that DENNIS O'NEAL & NEAL ADAMS influence that has ran through much of his Batman work.
In this week's issue #4, BATMAN AND TALIA AL GHUL continue their fight over the control of their son DAMIAN -- who you might know as ROBIN currently. Meanwhile, two mysterious new figures who bear a very striking resemblance to Bruce and Damian descend upon Gotham City: who are WINGMAN and REDBIRD, and what is their relationship to the DARK KNIGHT?
Folks, if you want a kick-ass BATMAN book that's loaded with action, incredible art (damn we love Chris Burnham!), and more big ideas than you could shake a Batarang at, make sure you get on board with BATMAN INCORPORATED #4.
Wanna get caught up? We've got issues 1-3 in stock now to get you current to this week's issue #4.

GAMBIT #4 -- The new ONGOING Gambit series is shaping up to be one of our favorite new Marvel series of 2012.
The new GAMBIT ongoing has been one of the best damn takes on the ragin' cajun that we've seen in quite a while, Third Eye Faithful. Writer JAMES ASMUS, who's currently working with ROBERT KIRKMAN (WALKING DEAD) on THIEF OF THIEVES is bringing all of his espionage, and down and dirty thieving awesomeness to the Marvel Universe, and combined with the stellar artwork of Clay Mann, makes for a totally unique and awesome read.
I mean, obviously, GAMBIT is an awesome character, and any series starring him is going to be at least pretty cool, but this one is a damn good read beyond that fact.
This week's issue #4 brings the conclusion to the first arc of Gambit's new ongoing, as he finds himself cursed by an ancient artifact, betrayed by his only ally, and staring down a Guatemalan god monster accidentally set loose on Earth. Sounds like a rough day? Well, it definitely is.
Now Gambit's going to have to use all of his cunning to win the day, and get back to doing what he does best: stealing, cheating, and lying.. with noble intentions, right?
No angst, no heartbreak, just a badass character traveling through the MARVEL UNIVERSE, the new GAMBIT series is awesome.

PUNK'S DEAD.. AND YOU'RE NEXT IN LET'S PLAY GOD #1 THIS WEDNESDAY FROM IDW PUBLISHING!
You guys know me well enough by now to know that the cover of this one alone probably caught my eye. Why? 'Cause growing up I always had a soft spot for those punk rock girls, but beyond that: the title is pretty freakin' awesome. So, it's not all about the DEAD MILKMEN here, Third Eye Faithful.
LETS PLAY GOD is a killer little IDW mini-series that's dropping this week, which looks to be pretty damn off-the-chain good.
After witnessing a murder, Mel must follow clues to avoid death and discover just who the heck is stalking her band-mates.
This journey will plunge her into a world of blood, and mayhem, as she finds out the dangers of life on the road in the 21st century.
We're pretty stoked about this one, Third Eye Faithful, as it looks to combine two of our favorite things: kick-ass horror comics, and punk rock.

RED LANTERNS #13 *RISE OF THE THIRD ARMY PT 4* -- THE RISE OF THE THIRD ARMY CONTINUES IN THIS WEDNESDAY'S RED LANTERNS!
RED LANTERNS #13 continues the totally killer RISE OF THE THIRD ARMY story arc that's been keeping us hooked since it's start in GREEN LANTERN ANNUAL #1.
As the THIRD ARMY attacks, a RED LANTERN will die, and we're just dying ( no pun intended! ) to see who it is! What dark choice will Atrocitus be forced to make to ensure the survival of the Red Lantern Corps?
This entire storyline has been freakin' fantastic, and we cannot wait to see how it continues with this week's RED LANTERNS.
What's the whole RISE OF THE THIRD ARMY arc all about? Well, the Guardians, after failures with the Manhunters, and the revolt of the various Lantern Corps, have grown increasingly corrupt, paranoid, and mad with power.
They need a Corps that can be easier controlled -- they need a third army. But, to put this army of soulless, emotionless beings in place, they've gotta pretty much exterminate every Lantern in the process.
And, that, is where we are now, as the various Lantern Corps must band together to fend off the attacks of the Third Army.

WOLVERINE MAX #1 -- In the tradition of PUNISHER MAX, WOLVERINE gets the no-holds-barred NC-17 gory, gruesome, and gritty MAX treatment
Folks, I'm really excited about this series. The previews for it have been out of hand, and  the concept is fantastic. We loved Garth Ennis's PUNISHER MAX stuff, which took Frank Castle out of the regular MARVEL UNIVERSE nad put him in a grittier, more realistic world without an Avengers team, and only believable Marvel characters like Nick Fury and the KINGPIN.
This week's WOLVERINE MAX looks to give one of the most violent Marvel characters the same treatment, and hot damn, it looks like we're going to see Marvel's best there ever was return to his original anti-hero roots in this one.
Set in modern-day Tokyo, Logan ges pulled into a terrorist's plot... or was he the target of it all along? Through flashbacks, we're shown glimpses at Wolverine's past, and trust us: the body count here is high.
Featuring the same tone and feel of other MARVEL MAX titles, this NC-17 Mature Readers title brings a very dark, very gritty feel to WOLVERINE, and may even serve as inspiration for the upcoming film.

BRANDON GRAHAM, CREATOR OF THIRD EYE FAVES KING CITY & PROPHET, RETURNS WITH A BRAND NEW SERIES: MULTIPLE WARHEADS: ALPHABET TO INFINITY!
A MUST-READ FOR FANS OF KING CITY, SCOTT PILGRIM & MORE!
Okay, let me start off by saying this: I am such a huge fan of Brandon Graham's totally epic, totally trippy KING CITY. You guys know this, because if you're into some of the weirder stuff, then I've already turned you onto it. And you loved it. You know you did. :)
And, then, I'm also just as big a fan of Graham's fantastic, Eurocomics-inspired work on PROPHET, which has totally turned that book into one of my monthly favorites.
So, seeing Graham out with a new series, has me pretty damn excited, and I cannot wait to dig into the first issue of MULTIPLE WARHEADS this Wednesday.
What's this one all about? Meet Sexica, and her Werewolf boyfriend Nikoli, as they travel across a sci-fi fantasy verison of Russia smoking singing cigarettes. Meanwhile, the organ hunter, Nura, is sent out with a severed head and instructions to find it's body.
We know it sounds bizarre, but that's part of the magic here, Third Eye Faithful. Brandon Graham takes completely, totally bizarre ideas and turns them into pure comic book gold. I mean, that's what comics are about, right? Doing the awesome stuff you can't do in any other medium.
Graham writes and illustrates this 4-part mini-series, and if you're already a fan, then you know that Graham's art is incredible to look at. It's deceptively simple at first glance, but then when you look at the surreal cityscapes, backgrounds, and everything else, you see influence from all sorts of genres of comic storytelling.
I'm telling you right now, Third Eye Faithful, if you're: a Moebius fan, a KING CITY fan, a PROPHET fan, a SCOTT PILGRIM fan, or anything else that's remotely similar... then you need to get MULTIPLE WARHEADS this Wednesday.

WOLVERINE & THE X-MEN TPB VOL.1 -- Jason Aaron's incredible new series is shaping up to be one of the best X-Books we've read in years! Snag yourself a copy this Wednesday!
WOLVERINE & THE X-MEN has really turned into one of the coolest Marvel books on the stands since it's debut last Summer, and it continues to impress the heck out of us with each and every issue.
Jason Aaron has brought a very modern, very high-energy approach to this series where we see Wolverine taking up the reigns of Xavier's school, renaming it the Jean Grey School of Higher Learning, and putting a stronger focus on training the next generation of X-Men.
There's a strong sense of humor that runs through the series, and that's a big part of what keeps us so damn hooked on it. It's really a great balance though, as it doesn't try too hard to be funny, while still being clever.
The introduction of new characters like KID GLADIATOR and BROO, is freakin' awesome, and it's the first time in a long time, that we're seeing new X-Men characters created that feel like they're going to stick around.
Combine all this with two insanely good artists: NICK BRADSHAW and CHRIS BACHALO, and you've got yourself one great reading, great looking, X-title.

WALKING DEAD NOVEL VOL.2 ROAD TO WOODBURY ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, CHRONICLING THE ASCENSION OF PHILIP BLAKE'S (THE GOVERNOR) ASCENSION AS THE LEADER OF WOODBURY!
Following hot on the heels of last year's totally awesome WALKING DEAD: RISE OF THE GOVERNOR novel, comes the next volume in the WALKING DEAD novels with WALKING DEAD: THE ROAD TO WOODBURY.
This story picks up immediately after the events of RISE OF THE GOVERNOR, serving as a riveting sequel, and develing into Philip Blake's ascension as the leader of Woodbury.
We're shown how it wasn't an easy road to the top, as there are those within the walled-off city who don't trust Philip or his motives -- or the strange scratching sounds that come from his apartment.
But Philip Blake is determined to turn Woodbury into a haven from the post-apocalyptic nightmare surrounding Woodbury, and he'll do whatever necessary to make sure that his vision sees fruition. Even if it means killing those currently in charge.
A must-read, Third Eye Faithful, get your's this Wednesday!

SUPERCROOKS HC -- MARK MILLAR, WRITER OF KICK-ASS, NEMESIS, OLD MAN LOGAN & MORE, RETURNS WITH A FASCINATING TAKE ON SUPER-VILLAINS IN SUPERCROOKS!
Mark Millar is definitely a favorite here at the store, and we love his past takes on superheroes with cutting-edge no-holds-barred modern approaches to the genre.
SUPERCROOKS is definitely a story that lives up to past Millar favorites like WANTED, KICK-ASS, and NEMESIS, as it brings a very cool twist to the concept of super-villains.
So, what's so special about it? Well, first: Leinil Yu's art is ALWAYS off-the-chain good, so there's that.
But, the concept is killer, here's the scoop: When the market is flooded with competition, and the authorities are always on your tail, what's an all-American super villain to do? Go to Spain, of course!
Johnny Bolt convinces his villainous pals to pull off one last heist in Spain, but will culture shock get to them before the policia do? And when Johnny's target is revealed as the Bastard, the greatest supervillain of all time, things go horribly wrong -- but it's too late to turn back. A massive secret in the American superhero community might just work in their favor -- and if the Supercrooks can survive, it will mean an enormous payday.
Imagine OCEANS 11 with super-villains, throw in that trademark Millar flair for clever dialogue, and dark humor, and you've got yourself one hell of an awesome read, Third Eye Faithful.

ALAN ROBERT'S KILLOGY DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY, FEATURING CHARACTERS BASED ON MARKY RAMONE, FRANK VINCENT (OF GOODFELLAS), and MORE.
A KILLER HORROR/SCIFI MASH-UP
What do you get when you throw three murderers into one prison cell together? That's the question that this new genre-busting mash-up of crime, dark comedy, and horror asks, and we gotta admit, after reading issue #1, it's pretty damn cool.
I don't want to ruin the twist, but there's a great little cliffhanger in this one that really sets up the story.
From the writer of CRAWL TO ME, and one of the founding members of LIFE OF AGONY.
