This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 11/7/12

Marvel NOW brings us DEADPOOL #1 This Wednesday, featuring a SPECIAL Third Eye Variant Cover!
The BEST Deadpool We've Read Yet!
It was hard to choose what was going to be our top pick this week, but after seeing the amazing custom cover that STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE artist TRADD MOORE did for us in collaboration with Marvel... we had to go with DEADPOOL. Plus: it's a fantastic read!

What'd you get when you take some of the most talented, genuinely funny writers in the business and pair them up with one of the most talented artists in the biz? Wait, wait, hold on.. what happens when you pair these titans up, and then put them on one of the most instinctively cool characters in comics?

You get the best DEADPOOL comic ever.

Seriously, this book lives up to the hype and then some, as it kicks off the new ongoing DEADPOOL series that's under the MARVEL NOW banner.

Tony Moore's artwork looks incredible, as he brings a unique, fresh, and distinct feel to the title, and Posehn & Duggan's writing brings a sharp, genuine sense of humor to The Merc with a Mouth.

What's the story behind the new DEADPOOL series?  It all begins in Washington, D.C when dead former U.S Presidents -- from George Washington to Gerald Ford -- are resurrected and the heroes of the Marvel Universe are a little too preoccupied to be the ones to stop them.

There's only one man capable, one man with the reputation, the skills, and of course, the plausible deniability to handle a legion of undead Presidents.... In Wade We Trust, Third Eye Faithful!

This is a fresh new direction for Deadpool, and a perfect new jumping on point for those of you who've been dying to find a good DEADPOOL series to read.

Plus: the art in this book is OFF-THE-CHAIN. Check out the preview below, and see for yourself!

Violent, hilarious, and totally awesome -- the new DEADPOOL series is a must-buy, Third Eye Faithful.

STORM DOGS #1 -- A NEW DYSTOPIAN SCI-FI SERIES FROM IMAGE THAT IS A MUST-READ FOR FANS OF PLANETOID & PROPHET!
Man, when I saw the preview pages for this one, I really was impressed. The art in this book is freakin' gorgeous, and the storytelling totally channels the kind of Eurocomics sci-fi awesomeness that's seen somewhat of a revival in comics that take influence like PROPHET and PLANETOID.

Storm Dogs is a gritty sic-fi crime thriller that effortlessly blends the space marine craziness of something like ALIENS or the Warhammer 40K world with a compelling crime noir.

In this tale, a uniquely skilled team arrives on a frontier planet to investigate a series of bizarre and violent deaths. Forced to rely on primitive technology, they soon learn what it means to be aliens in a hostile environment.

But, if they intend to unravel the mysteries of Amaranth they will also have to learn what it's like to be human.

Gorgeous, gritty artwork that captures the epic sci-fi odyssey feel perfectly combined with a tight story, makes this one a must-read, Third Eye Faithful.

This slab of awesome collects the totally algebraic adventures of Finn and Jake, as they throw down with the Lich, and defend the Land of Ooo.

RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS VOL.1 TRADE PAPERBACK COLLECTS THE FIRST 7 ISSUES OF THE NEW 52 RED HOOD SERIES!

Red Hood and the Outlaws gets cool points for two major reasons: #1 -- THE RED HOOD is an awesome character, and we can't get enough of Jason Todd being a bad-ass, and #2 -- Kenneth Rocafort's artwork is AAAAAMMMMAAAZING.

Seriously, this book looks fantastic, and the story compliments the art perfectly.

This first volume collects issues 1-7, as Red Hood puts together a team of outsider vigilantes consisting of Green Arrow's former sidekick Arsenal and the alien warrior Starfire -- and reluctantly, finds himself leading them in an unconventional war against crime.

This is a hyper-fast book, with action-packed storytelling, and over-the-top breakneck plotting that really works great with the three characters it stars.

One of our favorites in the NEW 52, snag yourself a copy this Wednesday!

MARVEL NOW: IRON MAN #1 BRINGS A BRAND NEW IRON MAN SERIES THIS WEDNESDAY!
The new IRON MAN series that's spinning from MARVEL NOW looks freakin' amazing, and folks, if you've yet to discover Kieron Gillen through his incredible work on sleeper hit JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY, then this is your chance to see why Gillen is climbing fast as one of the most talented writers in Marvel's arsenal.

Like the other MARVEL NOW titles, this is a fresh, new start where you can jump on board with issue #1, and start following the Armored Avenger.

Gillen captures the technical visionary, the unparalleled engineer, the devil-may-care playboy, and more with his portrayal of Tony Stark, and I gotta tell you: if you thought Iron Man was cool in the movies and the Avengers flick, then you haven't seen anything yet.

This really does truly capture the essence of Robert Downey Jr's IRON MAN portrayal, and bring that to the Marvel Universe in a very organic, and natural way.

We've seen Iron Man fight the greatest threats of the Marvel Universe, and we've seen him face his own inner demons. Now, when his greatest invention becomes his greatest mistake, Iron Man must act fast... and build faster!

The Extremis has become a lethal techno virus that's now out in the wild and up for grabs to the highest bidder.

Stark must not only contain the Extremis armor, but develop a new, better suit of armor in the process.

Greg Land's artwork looks sharp as hell, and Gillen is on fire here, Third Eye Faithful.

I can't stress enough: GET IRON MAN this week, it's amazing stuff!

SHADOWMAN #1 DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY FROM STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE Writer JUSTIN JORDAN & VALIANT COMICS
The VALIANT Comics revival has been pretty awesome, and by far, one of the bigger highlights of 2012, but I gotta tell you: SHADOWMAN is the title we've been looking forward to the most!

First off: JUSTIN JORDAN is writing it, and he's by far, one of our favorite people here at Third Eye. I mean, we cannot get enough of his uber-violent STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE, and we totally dug TEAM 7 as well.

We gotta tell ya too, Jordan is definitely bringing a very bloody, very crazy Luther Strode kinda vibe to Shadowman, and trust us: this is a good thing!

This new ongoing series starts out with one concept: there's a million dreams in the Big Easy. But now, it's worst nightmare is about to come true. As the forces of darkness prepare to claim New Orleans as their own, Jack Boniface must embrace the legacy he was born to uphold. As Shadowman, Jack is about to become the only thing that stands between his city and an army of unspeakable otherworldly monstrosities from beyond the night. But is the mantle of Shadowman a blessing or a curse? And, what cost does his otherworldly power come at?

SHADOWMAN is loaded with cool monsters, a bad-ass plot, great dialogue, and some fantastic artwork by Patrick Zircher. It may be our favorite of the VALIANT line-up so far, and this debut issue was a freakin' great start for the series!

PLUS: You can get your SHADOWMAN #1 signed on 12/1 at our LEGEND OF LUTHER STRODE release party with JUSTIN JORDAN & TRADD MOORE!

THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO ARRIVES IN GRAPHIC NOVEL THIS WEDNESDAY, AND IT'S FANTASTIC.

This is pretty awesome, Third Eye Faithful. Stieg Larsson's 'Millenium Trilogy' is getting the graphic novel treatment, and we're pretty darn stoked with how it's turned out. Leonado Manco's artwork is PERFECT for this story, and the graphic novel format in general works so well with Larrson's story.

Harriest Vanger, a scion of one of Sweden's wealthiest families, disappeared over forty years ago. All these years later, her aged uncle continues to seek the truth of her disappearance. He hires on Mikael Blomkvist, a crusading journalist recently trapped by a libel conviction, to investigate, and who's helping his investigation? A computer prodigy covered in tattoos and piercings named Lisbeth Salander.

Together, they tap into a vein of unfathomable ininquity and corruption in this stunning graphic novel adaptation of the GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO book.

AVENGERS VS. X-MEN HARDCOVER -- The entire 13-issue AvX series, plus AVX: VERSUS 1-6, and many other tie-ins collected into one killer graphic novel!

We know there's a lot of you folks who've been on the edge of your seats waiting for this to come out, and we're pretty happy to tell you: Wednesday, it's ON. The entirety of AVENGERS VS. X-MEN collected into one massive slab of awesome, and trust us, folks: this one is definitely worth it's spot on your bookshelf.

The biggest and the best of the AVENGERS and the X-MEN go to war in this game-changing storyline that paved the way for the current MARVEL NOW direction. As the Phoenix Force returns to Earth, Cyclops finds himself growing increasingly paranoid, and protective of the X-Men and their position in the world. But, what begins as good intentions ends in a fiery road to Hell itself.

Featuring the biggest throwdowns in the Marvel Universe between IRON MAN and MAGNETO, Spider-Man and Colossus, Captain America and Gambit, and so many more, AVENGERS VS. X-MEN will go down in history as one of the best marquee event stories that Marvel has done.

This hardcover is amazing, as it collects the entire 13-issue (#0-#12) AVX series into one volume, while also including the totally killer AVX: VS series which features the fights, the AVX INFINITE one-shots that were not originally published in print, and much more!

COLDER #1 DELIVERS A TERRIFYING JOURNEY INTO HORROR THAT'S REMINISCENT OF LOCKE & KEY and PREACHER.
Declan Thomas's body temperature is dropping. He never gets sick, never feels pain. An ex-inmate of an insane asylum that was destroyed in a fire, he has the strange ability to step inside a person's madness and sometimes cure it. He hopes to one day cure his own, but time is running out, because when his temperature reaches zero... it's over.

Folks, we loved the heck out of the first issue of this chilling (no pun intended, we swear!) new horror series from Dark Horse. If you're a fan of stuff like SEVERED, LOCKE & KEY and PREACHER, you're going to really dig COLDER.

BEFORE WATCHMEN CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH BEFORE WATCHMEN: MOLOCH FROM J. MICHAEL STRACZYNSKI (SUPERMAN EARTH ONE, SUPREME POWER, THOR) and EDUARDO RISSO (100 BULLETS)
Here's an interesting one -- a new BEFORE WATCHMEN title! And, just when we were starting to go through withdrawal after 2 weeks without BEFORE WATCHMEN in our lives!

This looks pretty damn cool though, I've been loving all the BEFORE WATCHMEN stuff so far, and this week's BEFORE WATCHMEN: MOLOCH looks to be no exception to the rule.

In this BEFORE WATCHMEN prequel story, MOLOCH explores the history of one of the Watchmen universe's oldest super-villains, and key characters. You may have seen him already in Ozymandias or Comedian, and you might remember his role in the original WATCHMEN, but he started out as a much more fearsome bad guy than those portrayals, and that's what we're going to see in the pages of this series from Straczynski and Risso.

As per usual with the WATCHMEN prequels, the artwork is stunning, and the writing is top notch, we give it props, so if you're digging the WATCHMEN stuff, snag yourself a copy and give it a shot!

47 RONIN #1 -- USAGI YOJIMBO creator STAN SAKAI debuts an AMAZING new Samurai comic this Wednesday!
OK, first, let us say this: Usagi Yojimbo = one of the best comic series of all-time, and Stan Sakai? Amazing. One of our all-time favorites. We love his stylized art, we love his attention to detail, and we love his smooth storytelling. He's just THAT good.

So, a new project from Stan? You could say we're excited.

Among the best-known tales in Japanese history, the legend of the 47 Ronin and their epic mission to avenge their disgraced master epitomizes the samurai code of honor. It has been said, "To know the story of hte 47 Ronin is to know Japan." Retold through the ages, the legend at last comes to comics in a meticulously researched and beautifully illustrated miniseries from USAGI YOJIMBO creator STAN SAKAI.

Recounting this sweeping tale of honor and violence in all its grandeur, chapter one details the tragic incident that would seal the fate of Lord Asano and set forty-seven of his vassals on a years-long path of vengeance.

Folks: this is INCREDIBLE stuff, and not only is Sakai involved, but it also features editorial consultation from manga giant Kazuo Koike (LONE WOLF AND CUB).

Trust us: you want this!

GREEN LANTERN #14 -- THE RISE OF THE THIRD ARMY CONTINUES AS THE NEW GL, SIMON BAZ, FACES THE JUSTICE LEAGUE!
We have been totally digging the RISE OF THE THIRD ARMY arc that's been running through the GREEN LANTERN titles, and the introduction of new GL, Simon Baz, has been off-the-chain good.

The saga continues, as the Third Army continues their quest to exterminate ALL of the GREEN LANTERNS, and replace them, meanwhile, Baz finds himself having to throw down with the Justice League, as they demand to know where Hal Jordan has disappeared to.

Geoff Johns, writer of AQUAMAN, JUSTICE LEAGUE and more, continues to hit homeruns with this one, and Doug Mahnke's art just gets better and better.

We love the concept behind the new LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT series, which delivers stand-alone one-shot BATMAN stories by some of the most talented folks in the comic business today.

Last month, issue #1 featured a killer Damon Lindeloff story that totally rocked our socks, and this week's issue #2, has 30 DAYS OF NIGHT / WORMWOOD GENTLEMEN CORPSE artist BEN TEMPLESMITH doing an excellent take on THE JOKER.

FREELANCERS #1 FEATURES KUNG-FU BOUNTY HUNTERS FROM BOOM! STUDIOS (HIGHER EARTH, SUPURBIA, IRREDEEMABLE)
ONLY $1.00 FOR ISSUE #1
Joshua Covey's art is pretty awesome, and we saw he was going to be working on a new series with BOOM! Studios, we knew we had to give this one a look.

Plus, the over-the-top grindhouse plot and premise definitely has us intrigued.

Meet Val and Cassie, two women trying to make it in LA, who just happened to grow up in a Kung Fu Orphanage, and now make their way in an ultra-competitive world of bounty hunting.

They've watched each other's backs since they could stand, and those bonds are tested daily as they navigate a city where loyalty usually only runs as deep as one's bank account.

Val and Cassie take the most dangerous jobs, and watch as others bask in the glory. But now, as their former mentor becomes L.A's most wanted fugitive, Val and Cassie will fight through L.A's glitziest and grimiest hoods as they learn just what sacrifices are necessary to make Hollywood dreams come true.

SCARLET SPIDER #11 *MIIMUM CARNAGE PART 4* -- The MINIMUM CARNAGE Saga Continues in this Wednesday's SCARLET SPIDER #11

As children of the '80s and '90s, we can't help but take notice when Marvel brings Carnage back into the spotlight, and when it involves two of our favorite Marvel monthlies? Well, hot damn, you've got us.

Seriously though, SCARLET SPIDER is one of the best Marvel ongoings on the stands right now, and continues to pick up steam and achieve accolades as it quietly turns into one of the best Spidey comics on the stands.

Featuring the imperfect clone of Peter Parker, Kaine, who takes the idea of All the Power, and None of the Responsibility to it's extreme, SCARLET SPIDER is kind of like the RED HOOD of the Marvel Universe.

Picture a Spider-Man that didn't have the strict moral code Parker does, and that helps capture the tone of the SCARLET SPIDER book well.

We've been totally enjoying the MINIMUM CARNAGE crossover that's running between VENOM and SCARLET SPIDER, and cannot wait to see how things continue to play out in this Wednesday's SCARLET SPIDER #11.

Wanna get caught up? We've got the MINIMUM CARNAGE ALPHA one-shot, SCARLET SPIDER #10 *Chapter 2* and VENOM #26 *Chapter 3* in stock and available now to get you current!

HELLRAISER: THE ROAD BELOW #1 -- THE ORIGIN OF KIRSTY COTTON'S RETURN TO EARTH AS THE NEW PINHEAD!
Boom has been doing a terrific job with their HELLRAISER comic series, and this new spin-off limited series, THE ROAD BELOW, looks to be one of the most exciting slices of HELLRAISER lore yet.

Kirsty Cotton has gone from a human resisting the forces of Hell, to the ruler of light in the darkest of places. Before her battle with former Pinhead Captain Elliott Spencer, she was called to New Orleans by a holder of the LeMarchand Device -- a woman trying to end a decades-long family feud by any means necessary.

This is an official part of HELLRAISER continuity and lore that reveals Kirsty's first days in Hell, and how she transitioned into becoming the new Pinhead.

A must-read for any Hellraiser fan, snag yourself a copy this week!

FLY VOL.2 #1 -- ZENESCOPE, PUBLISHERS OF THE "RETURN TO WONDERLAND" TRILOGY, ROBYN HOOD, and MORE CONTINUE THEIR KILLER SERIES FLY THIS WEDNESDAY!

We were big fans of the Zenescope series FLY from last year, and are totally stoked to see the series returning with this Wednesday's FLY VOL.2 #1.

After the life shattering events of the first volume of FLY, Eddie is now a broken man set on a path of self-destruction he may not escape. Meanwhile Francis sets his end game plan in motion and the Hero is about to get a deadly taste of his own vengeful medicine.

Set in a world where the super-heroes aren't really heroes at all... the question is: how far would you go to Fly?

Didn't read the first series? We've got the first trade paperback in stock to get you caught up in time for the sequel. What's it about? In a world where super-powers don't exist, what happens when a drug surfaces that gave you the power to fly? How far would you go to possess it? And, how addicting would having an ability like that be?

In a story that's very reminiscent of the movie CHRONICLE, FLY treats the idea of superpowers like a drug addiction, and along the way, crafts a really compelling story.

Snag a copy of the trade and give it a shot this week at Third Eye!

RAGEMOOR ARRIVES IN HARDCOVER THIS WEDNESDAY, COLLECTING HORROR LEGEND RICHARD CORBEN'S KILLER TALE OF A LIVING CASTLE! A MUST-READ FOR FANS OF EC HORROR, HELLBOY & MORE!
Dude: RAGEMOOR is such a blast! We're huge fans of RICHARD CORBEN here at Third Eye, and for so many years, this guy has been one of the defining names in good horror comics. His style is so unique, and so great that he's really able to take some of the craziest ideas and craft them into something special.

RAGEMOOR is a stand-alone story about a living castle, nurtured on pagan blood, and harboring deadly monsters. A fortress possessed of its own will and ability to change itself, with the power to add and destroy rooms, and to grow without the help of any human hand. Its servants aren't human, its origins are Lovecraftian, and its keeper must fend off the castle walls from the terrible horror that is the worm men.

Folks: this is insane, over-the-top horror comics at their best. There are some things that just crackle with imagination, and this is one of those. Imagine taking the madness of Jack Kirby circa 1967, putting him in a Hammer Horrors Film Studio, and pairing him up with Ray Harryhausen, and you'd get RAGEMOOR.

The first volume tells the story of Desmond Miles' abduction by Abstergo and their plans to rip the blood-steeped memories of Desmond's ancestors from his genetic code. Add to the mix the mysterious and violently terrified Subject 16 and a desperate flight from Abstergo, and this makes for an integral addition to the game's universe.

THE FLASH VOL.1 MOVE FORWARD HARDCOVER COLLECTS THE FIRST 8 ISSUES OF THE NEW 52 FLASH RUN FEATURING THE AMAZING ARTWORK OF FRANCIS MANAPUL!

One of the sleeper hits of the NEW 52, the current run of the FLASH by Francis Manapul has been one of the most consistently awesome DC books we've been reading since issue #1, and it's showing no signs of slowing down.

Manapul's art is the real star of the show here, as he brings a fluid, constantly in-motion feel to the book, with both the Flash and his villains, always moving the story through at a breakneck pace.

In the first arc, Mob Rule wages a campaign of crime across Central City, plunging the city into darkness. The only way the Flash can save his city is to make his brain function even faster than before -- but as much as it helps him, there's a price, and he's going to learn it very quickly.

A great addition to your NEW 52 library, Third Eye Faithful, give this one a peek on Wednesday!
