This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 12/19/12

SAGA #8 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, CONTINUING ONE OF THE BEST COMICS ON THE STANDS TODAY!
Not reading this fantastic series? We've got all issues in stock to catch you up, OR, grab the trade collecting 1-6 for only $9.99.
Folks, I may be a bit hasty in this proclamation, but SAGA is our favorite comic out. Seriously. This book, is by far, the best new series of 2012, and it may be the Book of the Year for us. It really is that incredible.
Writer Brian K. Vaughan, and artist Fiona Staples are working pure magic here, and every single issue of this incredible mature sci-fi / fantasy epic reminds us of the kind of wonder and magic that comics can build.
It simply is an incredible piece of work, and the fact that we're able to experience it here and now, as it builds, and builds, is pretty damn awe-inspiring.
This is THE series to define this generation of comics, in my opinion, and much like fans of the '80s remember where they were when they were following epics like WATCHMEN, or AKIRA, fans of the '90s remember where they were when they were following each issue of THE SANDMAN or PREACHER, and fans of the '00s remember where they were during Y: THE LAST MAN or OLD MAN LOGAN, you guys will remember where you were when you read each and every issue of SAGA.
Okay, so enough fanboy gushing, for those of you yet to be initiated, SAGA is like taking the best of Joss Whedon's FIREFLY / SERENITY, the political intrigue and epic fantasy of A GAME OF THRONES, and the sweeping scope and tone of the original STAR WARS trilogy. All with a sleek, modern edge that makes it totally unique.
In SAGA, when two soldiers from opposite sides of a never-ending galactic war fall in love, they risk everything to bring a fragile new life into a dangerous old universe. This is fantasy and sci-fi combined into a sleek, sexy subversive drama for adults that's unlike anything we've ever seen before.
Folks: trust us, it's phenomenal.
Wanna get on board? We've got issues 1-7 in stock now to get you up to this week's #8, OR, you can snag the first trade, collecting 1-6 for just $9.99, and then hop aboard with issues 7 & 8.

AVENGERS #2 -- The flagship AVENGERS title arrives this Wednesday, continuing the awesomeness of it's debut issue! Who are the new members of the AVENGERS?
The general verdict on MARVEL NOW has been very positive, and I think we can all agree, that holy crap: these books are great.
Marvel has taken their entire line-up of flagship titles like AVENGERS, THOR, CAPTAIN AMERICA, and more, and managed to really re-invigorate and renew them with fresh talent, and refocused directions, and we're loving every second of it.
It may be premature to make this call so early, but this is the most exciting time we've seen for Marvel since the dawn of the 2000s, when Bendis, Ennis, Quesada, Millar, Morrison and more had first come to the company with a new mission statement.
This is Marvel magic, and is probably the most exciting time we've seen for the Marvel Universe in over a decade.
In the aftermath of AVENGERS VS. X-MEN, a new Marvel Universe is being forged, and with it, new directions and goals for it's greatest heroes.
In Jonathan Hickman (MANHATTAN PROJECTS, PAX ROMANA, FANTASTIC FOUR) and Jerome Opena's (UNCANNY X-FORCE, FEAR AGENT) AVENGERS, we're seeing the Earth's Mightiest Heroes like we've never seen them before.
This is the kind of raw energy and excitement we originally got when reading that first arc of NEW AVENGERS back so long ago, and we're loving every second of it.
From the very first pages, this book has a feel that is so epic, and so vast, that it could only happen in an AVENGERS title.
In issue #1, Hickman introduces a very Grant Morrison / Warren Ellis-esque kind of super-villain crew known as the Garden. It almost reminds you of something out of the AUTHORITY, as these self-styled gods dismantle the AVENGERS we know and love piece by piece, without so much as breaking a sweat.
And, then they drop them back on Earth.... with an ominous warning, that they will return to finish the job.
Now, the AVENGERS have gone global, and are bringing in some major fan-favorite characters to face the threat.
Opena's art has never looked so freakin' good, and Hickman's writing some of his most top notch stuff here.
The book is just plain amazing, and it's definitely going places.

BLACK BEETLE: NIGHT SHIFT #0 BRINGS THE PULPY AWESOMENESS OF FRANCESCO FRANCAVILLA'S MYSTERYMAN TO LIFE! GORGEOUS ART FROM THE MAN WHO BROUGHT US BATMAN: THE BLACK MIRROR
We are mega-fans of Francesco Francavilla's gorgeous, pulp fiction-charged artwork, and when we first heard rumblings about his Black Beetle series, we just knew it was going to be incredible. And, folks, it most definitely is.
When a powerful totem of dark magic shows up at the Colt City Natural History Museum, Hitler sends his fearsome Werwolf Korps to collect the piece. Unfortunately for the fuhrer, Colt City's protector, the Black Beetle, is on the case.
A must for fans of stuff like HELLBOY, BPRD, LOBSTER JOHNSON, and INCOGNITO, BLACK BEETLE is going to be a kick-ass little 5-issue mini-series that doesn't hold back.

ELSEWORLDS RETURNS WITH THIS WEDNESDAY'S JSA THE LIBERTY FILES: THE WHISTLING SKULL #1 -- Imagine the DCU set against the backdrop against World War II, and the JSA / JLA as a team built to fight Nazis!
This is a very cool thing, I mean, just the fact that DC is revisiting the ELSEWORLDS imprint, and returning to some WHAT IF? stories is pretty damn awesome.
In THE WHISTLING SKULL, the DC Universe is re-imagined in the 1940s, during the rise of the Nazi war machine, and a team of masked crimefighters, ranging from Doctor Mid-Nite to Wildcat to, maybe even, a Dark Knight... must solve one of the most bizarre mysteries of all-time, while also trying to put up resistance against the evil Nazis storming through Europe.
Featuring the art of Tony Harris (STARMAN, EX MACHINA), who's stuff always looks incredible, JSA LIBERTY FILES: THE WHISTLING SKULL is a must-read.

CHEW VOL.6 SPACE CAKES BRINGS THE NEXT VOLUME OF THIS INCREDIBLE IMAGE FAVORITE!
We're huge fans of the IMAGE series CHEW, and we know there's a ton of you guys who're totally going to rejoice whenever a new trade of it drops, so we figured we'd give you a little early X-Mas present with this week's CHEW VOL.6 SPACE CAKES.
As the series continues, we get to meet Tony Chu's sister, Toni, who shares his ability, but with a unique twist. Instead of seeing everything that happened to something she eats, like Tony does, she sees the future of it. And, lately, she's seeing some terrible, terrible things.
This collects issues 26-30, plus the one-shot CHEW: SECRET AGENT POYO.
Haven't read CHEW? What's it about? So, picture this: Tony Chu is a detective with a secret. A weird secret. Tony Chu is cibopathic, which means he gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats. It also means he's a hell of a detective, as long as he doesn't mind niblling on the corpse of a murder victim to figure out whodunit, and why.
He's been brought on by the Special Crimes Division of the FDA, the most powerful law enforcement agency on the plnaet, to investigate their strangest, sickest, and most bizarre cases.
Wanna get started with CHEW? We've got all the graphic novels in stock, and recommend beginning with CHEW VOL.1 TASTER'S CHOICE, which is only $9.99.

THUNDERBOLTS #2 -- One of our favorites of the MARVEL NOW line-up continues this Wednesday, as the most heavy-hitting team of anti-heroes continues to dish out lethal justice.
Red Hulk. Venom. Elektra. Deadpool. Punisher. Forget the courts, forget the jails, forget the system -- this team of Thunderbolts fights fire with fire, targeting the most dangerous and lethal players in the Marvel Universe, and we love it!
Talk about an awesome read, Daniel Way nails these characters perfectly here, as finds the most fitting role for Red Hulk that we've ever seen.
Grouping these guys together as some kind of lethal measures special ops team that handles the worst the Marvel U has to offer is perfect. It's almost like a Suicide Squad but done Marvel-style.
The way that Way writes the characters is on point, with General Ross playing up his military past perfectly.
A fantastic read, that doesn't shy away from the ultra-violence, or dark subject matter, make sure you give THUNDERBOLTS a shot.
We've got copies of issue 1 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #2.

IDW PUBLISHING'S NEW JUDGE DREDD ONGOING SERIES IS FANTASTIC, JUDGE DREDD #2 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY
IDW has really captured lightning in a bottle with the new JUDGE DREDD, as it's the best take we've seen on the character in quite a while.
Playing up the grim, gritty bleakness of the original JUDGE DREDD material, while introducing a modern spin to the art and writing, the new JUDGE DREDD series showcases a Mega-City One, where a Veteran Judge has gone bad.
And, he's so skilled at hiding his misdeeds that event Judge Dredd is unable to dig up the evidence he needs to bring him down. Looks like ti's time to choose psis... from the Psi Division, that is.
This issue features the re-introduction of fan-favorite JUDGE ANDERSON, and the series as a whole, is a great place to start reading DREDD if you've never followed the character before, as it almost feels like a YEAR ONE-kind of approach.

RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #15 CONTINUES THE DEATH OF THE FAMILY WITH A SLICK DIE-CUT JOKER OVERLAY COVER
The DEATH OF THE FAMILY crossover has been one of the best things to hit the DC Universe this year, and every single installment of it has been a top-notch addition to the lore that Snyder is building with The Joker's grand return.
This week, rocking one of those slick die-cut Joker mask covers, we've got a tie-in we've been eagerly awaiting with RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #15.
This special issue features one of the most tense meetings of DEATH OF THE FAMILY yet, as Red Hood and Red Robin must combine forces against THE JOKER.
And, we ALL know Joker's history with Robins, Jason Todd the Red Hood, especially.
Fantastic stuff, as expected, Third Eye Faithful. Make sure you snag your's this Wednesday.

HAPPY! #3 - Grant Morrison & Darick Robertson's disturbing IMAGE series continues this Wednesday! A hit-man, and his imaginary friend? What's not to love?
We are totally in love with Grant Morrison's new IMAGE series HAPPY! and think it's some of the best work that both he and artist Darick Robertson have done in quite some time.
With a day left until Christmas, and time running out for Santa's innocent victims, Happy the Horse learns what turned Nick Sax from golden cop to broken-down hit man. But can he convince Nick to do the right thing or is it Happy's turn to face some uncomfortable truths?
What's this one all about? Meet Nick Sax. He's a real jerk. He used to be a great cop, but now he's a degenerate hit-man, who has no sense of moral code whatsoever. And, he's just found himself laid up in a mob-run hospital.
Who's going to save his skin? A tiny imaginary blue pony that's called HAPPY, who decides he needs Nick's help in taking down a greater evil.
Folks, it's trippy, it's violent, it's darkly humorous, and it's entertaining all the way through, HAPPY is a MUST-READ. This is some of Robertson's sharpest artwork since TRANSMETROPOLITAN, and Morrison is on point here as he tells an ass-kicker of a story.

ALL NEW X-MEN #4 KEEPS TURNING UP THE HEAT ON THIS EXPLOSIVE NEW X-TITLE WHICH IS SHAPING UP TO BE ONE OF THE BEST X-BOOKS WE'VE READ IN A LONG TIME!
As I have already said, the MARVEL NOW stuff has really been impressive across the board, but I think we can all agree that nothing has been more impressive than the new direction of the X-Men books with the new flagship title ALL NEW X-MEN.
Brian Michael Bendis is batting a thousand on this one, as he channels the same kind of energy he does on ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN and the original NEW AVENGERS stuff, bringing a new spark of life to the world of the X-Men.
In the aftermath of AVENGERS VS. X-MEN, something is done which allows the original five X-Men of the past; Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman, Angel and Beast; to come back to the present day -- and witness the horror that's happened to them, their friends, and their future.
Now, these five X-Men come face to face with their counterparts, including the modern day Cyclops... and it's not a peaceful meeting.
The book is kinda spoiler-sensitive, so we'll refrain from dropping any clues, as the surprises are great, we'll just say this: if you're a Cyclops fan, you need to be reading this comic. It's incredible.
Wanna get caught up We've got issues 1-3 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #4.

CURSED PIRATE GIRL VOL.1 HARDCOVER -- JEREMY BASTIAN'S GORGEOUS HIGH ADVENTURE SERIES IS A MUST-READ! FAN OF STUFF OF LEGEND, OR MOUSE GUARD? GET THIS BOOK!
Folks, if you've yet to discover the awesomeness that is CURSED PIRATE GIRL, then now is your chance, with the arrival of the CURSED PIRATE GIRL hardcover this Wednesday, which collects the first massive arc of the series, and includes a brand new epilogue series.
This is a gorgeous book, and I really cannot recommend it enough. Bastian's artwork is reminiscent of intricate woodcuts of the Victorian era, as he illustrates a tale of adventure on and under the high seas featuring a cursed pirate girl who encounters mythic creatures, gnarled and crusty pirates, and ghostly apparitions as she tries to find her lost father, one of the dreaded Pirate Captains of the mythical Omerta Seas.
A whimsical, swashbuckling tale of wonderland journeys and unimaginable dangers, starting in Port Elisabeth, Jamaica in the year 1728, and quickly heading across-and-beneath-the waves.
If you're a fan of stuff like MOUSE GUARD, HELLBOY, STUFF OF LEGEND , or ROBOT 13, you'll love this book. Heck, if you just love gorgeously crafted comics, you'll love this book.
Snag yourself a copy this Wednesday, we'll have plenty on hand, but remember, all things CURSED PIRATE GIRl tend to go out of print very quickly, so make sure you snag your's quick! :)

DEATH OF THE FAMILY CASTS IT'S SPOTLIGHT ON DICK GRAYSON IN THIS WEEK'S NIGHTWING #15
As mentioned above, The Joker has quite the history with the Robins, and in addition to the obvious history he has with Jason Todd (the Red Hood), he's also got some serious bad blood with NIGHTWING.
Why? Well, there's that whole incident with the Gordon family, who we know have always been close to Grayson.
Kyle Higgins delivers a stellar tie-in issue of DEATH OF THE FAMILY, as we're continuing to stay hooked on this fantastic crossover.
Snag yourself a copy this Wednesday of NIGHTWING #15, and if you need to get caught up on any of the other chapters, we've got all issues in stock for the DEATH OF THE FAMILY crossover.

NOWHERE MEN #2 ARRIVES FROM IMAGE COMICS THIS WEDNESDAY, CONTINUING THIS KILLER NEW POP SCI-FI SERIES
Dude, IMAGE'S new series NOWHERE MEN, completely blew our minds last month, and we're totally pumped to see issue #2 arriving this Wednesday.
Written by the incredibly talented ERIC STEPHENSON, who also happens to be the Editor-in-Chief at IMAGE COMICS, and the man responsible for bringing us so many fantastic series, and illustrated by a fantastic art team consisting of Nate Bellegarde and Jordie Bellaire, this book looks as good as it reads.
Imagine this: a world where science is the new rock-n-roll. A world where scientists with cures for cancer, and crazy new inventions, are like THE BEATLES of this world.
That's the world of NOWHERE MEN, but what makes it fascinating, is we're shown how quickly the road to hell is paved with the best intentions, as the fallout from these super-geniuses and their experiments begins to negatively impact the world around them.
The first issue was predominantly a set-up book, but this week's issue #2 really shines, as we get into the overall plot that's running through the series, and see the direction of where things are heading.
Folks, this comic is pure rock-n-roll, we love it, and we think you will too.
Wanna get into it? We've got copies of issue #1 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #2.

THOR GOD OF THUNDER #3 CONTINUES WHAT MAY BE THE BEST THOR RUN WE'VE READ SINCE J. MICHAEL STRACZYNSKI'S MODERN CLASSIC TAKE!
Dude, the new THOR series is so freakin' good -- it's ridiculous. We're not even that big of THOR fans, but man, this book is AMAZING. Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic are making some pure Marvel magic here, as the title reads fantastic, and looks incredible. A perfect matching of top notch art, and storytelling.
Following the bloody wake of murdered gods across the depths of space, Thor tracks the GOD BUTCHER into the present day. Now, discovering a forgotten cave on Earth that echoes with the cries of tortured gods... the Thunder God is shocked to find himself among them.
This story has been incredible, as this new villain, the God Butcher, is literally carving a path through every Pantheon you can imagine, be it the Greek Gods, the Roman Gods, or now, the Asgardians.
And, Thor, Thor's not having it, and he's willing to fend off the God Butcher in the past, in the present, and even in the future as he brings down his full fury.
Folks, this book is GREAT. One of our favorite in the MARVEL NOW line-up. Wanna get caught up? We've got copies of issue 1 & 2 in stock now to get you up to date with this week's #3.

TRANSFUSION #2 DELIVERS CRAZY BLOOD-FUELED ROBOTS FIGHTING VAMPIRES IN THE FUTURE WITH ART BY "MONOCYTE" artist MENTON3
In a future overrun by out-of-control machines and monsters, a handful of human survivors try to fight their way back to a normal life. But what is normal in a world where both monsters and machines survive off human blood?
That's the question that TRANSFUSION asks, and we freakin' are loving the way it's being answered.
This little mini-series is a terrific new horror comic that melds post-apocalyptic TERMINATOR-style science fiction with straight-for-the-throat FROM DUSK TIL DAWN-style horror.
Menton3's art is GORGEOUS, Third Eye Faithful, and that will be enough, we guarantee you, to take the plunge on this one.

DJANGO UNCHAINED #1 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, BRINGING QUENTIN TARANTINO'S UPCOMING FILM TO THE PAGE!
I gotta tell you, Third Eye Faithful, there's not too many movies that I'm really pressed to rush out to theaters and see these days. However, DJANGO UNCHAINED, is one I will see on opening day, and I'll tell you why: IT'S A NEW QUENTIN TARANTINO MOVIE.
One of my favorite film-makers, I'm super excited for this flick, and can't wait to see it when it releases. So, when I saw DC was putting out a comic that ties back to DJANGO UNCHAINED, with interior art by SCALPED artist RM GUERA, I knew we were in for a real treat.
This isn't the first time I've seen a Tarantino movie get the comic treatment (I've still got my FROM DUSK TIL DAWN one-shot from 1996 floating around somewhere), but it definitely looks like one of the best treatments.
Snag yourself a copy this Wednesday, and get pumped for the upcoming film release!

ALEX ROSS'S MASKS #2 CONTINUES THE NEW SERIES SHOWCASING THE MOST ICONIC HEROES IN PULP FICTION HISTORY
Dynamite always does a terrific job with their pulp revival stuff, and this cool little series focusing on Alex Ross's new take on these classic pulp icons is pretty darn cool.
In MASKS, powerful criminals and crooked politicians have taken over New York, and instituted a fascist police state. With the law bent to their own purposes, the so-called "Justice Party" and their army of Black Legion troopers imprison, extort, and execute any citizens who stand in their way.
Only vigilantes like THE SHADOW, GREEN HORNET, THE SPIDER, and ZORRO have any hope of standing against them, but instead of operating outside the law as they have always done, these masked heroes must now oppose the law in their fight for justice.
But they will not be fighting alone, as more men nad women don masks and emerge from the shadows to stand alongside them.
Wanna get caught up? Snag a copy of MASKS #1, featuring interior art by the one and only ALEX ROSS, and that'll get you current for this Wednesday's #2.

CAPTAIN AMERICA #2 -- THE RADDEST TAKE ON CAPTAIN AMERICA WE'VE SEEN IN AGES! RICK REMENDER (UNCANNY AVENGERS, FEAR AGENT, UNCANNY X-FORCE) TAKES STEVE ROGERS TO AN ALIEN PLANET, STRANDS HIM THERE, AND PROCEEDS TO BLOW OUR MINDS!
CAPTAIN AMERICA is looking to be embarking on one of it's best runs in quite some time with this new MARVEL NOW take, and I gotta tell ya... I'm pretty excited about it.
Rick Remender, who we've loved on books like UNCANNY X-FORCE, FEAR AGENT, and UNCANNY AVENGERS, brings his unique voice to the world of Cap, and he kicks things off in a pretty awesome way: Cap getting tricked onto a subway train that transports him to an alien world that could ONLY be called DIMENSION Z.
Now, with the genetically altered son of Arnim Zola under his protection, Captain America must protect the boy, and bring the idea of Truth, Justice and the American Way to a planet that knows nothing of those things.
Who are the barbarians of Phrox and what intentions do they harbor for Captain America and the boy in his protection?
A post-apocalyptic, totally psychotronic, Jack Kirby-charged kinda awesomeness, this is a fantastic read. Featuring the high-energy art of JOHN ROMITA JR, which looks the best it has since his work on KICK-ASS, the new CAPTAIN AMERICA is a freakin' beast, and we cannot wait to read more.
Wanna get caught up? We've got copies of issue #1 in stock now to get you up to speed with this week's #2.

Third Eye loves Brandon Graham's MULTIPLE WARHEADS ALPHABET TO INFINITY, and this week's issue #3 is Fantastic!
You know, there's some books, that when you look at them, you just get lost in them, and I mean that in the best way possible. MULTIPLE WARHEADS is one of those kinds of books. Brandon Graham's art is so complex, yet so simple at the same time, that it really is truly unique stuff.
We loved KING CITY, and folks, if you dug that, then you'll love the hell out of MULTIPLE WARHEADS ALPHABET TO INFINITY.
In this week's issue #3, Sexica runs into some old Organ hounds from the Red City that have discovered a magic secret about the city built into the Whaling Wall.
Sound totally insane? It's 'cause it is! Seriously though, this is the kind of out there that's so out there, we love it. I mean, this is comics, right? We WANT crazy off-the-wall ideas, and settings!
What is MULTIPLE WARHEADS about? In a nutshell, it's about a couple. Sexica and her boyfriend Nikoli, who just so happens to be a werewolf, travel across a sci-fi/fantasy Russia smoking singing cigarettes, while Nura the Organ Hunter is sent out with a severed head and instructions to find it's body.
From there, things get totally crazy, and we're loving every second of it. We dare you to flip through issue #1, look at the art, and not be intrigued.

INDESTRUCTIBLE HULK #2 --- Mark Waid (IRREDEEMABLE, DAREDEVIL) is totally kicking ass on the new HULK title! A MUST-READ!Man, is Marvel firing on all cylinders here, or what? These new titles are absolutely killer, each one feels like a top shelf read, and I'm serious when I sing the praises of each and every one.
The new HULK may be the best take on the HULK in a long time, as Mark Waid finally figures out a way to really capture what makes the Jade Giant interesting, and balance that with an action-packed book that really gets across the Hulk's massive power.
What's the scoop? Picture this: HULK: AGENT OF SHIELD. Bruce Banner resurfaces, now that he and the Hulk are one, and basically approaches SHIELD with an offer: pay me, and have access to my scientific genius. Don't pay me -- and I'll sell my know-how to another country.
On top of that, he also makes another deal: whenever an outburst is about to happen, SHIELD points the HULK at a threat that needs taking out, and lets him loose.
And, folks: this is such a cool take on the character, it's ridiculous. It really is the best HULK we've read in ages, as it balance smart storytelling, clever dialogue, and non-stop action perfectly.
In this week's issue #2, we get to find out just how tense the relationship between THE HULK and IRON MAN really is.
Wanna get caught up? We've got issue 1 in stock now to catch you up to this week's issue #2.

HAWKEYE #6 CONTINUES ONE OF THE BEST NEW MARVEL BOOKS ON THE STANDS IN 2012 THIS WEDNESDAY!
Six issues in -- and still one of the best damn monthly books on the stands, if you're still not reading HAWKEYE, we need to rectify that this week, Third Eye Faithful.
Trust us: we know there's  a lot of you who may not be keen on the Avenging Archer, but this book is so much more than just a Hawkeye running around and doing archer stuff.
This is a gritty, BATMAN YEAR ONE-esque crime thriller with the kind of unique sense of humor that you don't see every day.
The book is a real work of art, and definitely represents something special in the comic marketplace today. I haven't seen a direction for a comic this fresh since Mark Waid's DAREDEVIL debuted a couple of years ago.
Fraction and Aja are an amazing team, and we knew they would be, just from the magic they worked with the IMMORTAL IRON FIST series a few years ago.
Now, with HAWKEYE, they're crafting a bold new identity for Clint Barton, while staying true to his roots.
This week's issue #6 brings us a little holiday cheer, some AIM agents getting their butts kicked, and someone.. or something known as DVR-MAGEDDON.
We loved it. You will too!
Wanna get on board? We've got issues 1-5 of HAWKEYE in stock and available now to get you caught up in time for this Wednesday's #6.
