This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 12/26/12

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #700 BRINGS THE ICONIC TITLE TO AN END, AND LEADS THE WAY FOR THE NEW SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #1
THE MOST HISTORIC ISSUE OF SPIDER-MAN YET.. DO NOT MISS THIS ONE!
Folks, this is it. The end of an era. The end of MANY eras, we should say. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN brings itself to a close with this Wednesday's AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #700, and with it, opens a new page in the book of the Wallcrawler.. or a Wallcrawler, we should say.

It all began in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #698, which showcased a shocking twist in the story of Peter Parker, as the consciousness of Peter Parker was transferred into the dying body of Doc Ock, and Doc Ock's own consciousness was transferred into Peter Parker's body.

With Doc Ock quickly realizing just how much power he now holds as Spider-Man, and finding himself yearning to prove just how much better he can be in comparison to his long-time foe.

Of course, some interesting events take place in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #700, which change the entire dynamic of the Spider-Man universe.. forever.

This is going to be THE book to buy this week, Third Eye Faithful, and we cannot recommend it enough.

Packed with over 700 pages of Spider goodness, celebrating 50 years of Spider-Man, and providing one of the most crucial key issues in Spidey's history, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #700 is a must-have, and we can see why Marvel chose this to be their number one book this week.

We will have ALL issues of the DYING WISH storyline that led up to this issue in stock and available as well to help you get caught up to issue #700.

Those issues are: AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #698, #699 and #699.1, and we've got 1st prints of each available to hook you up.

There will also be a slew of great variant covers available for this issue, including the above-pictured MARCOS MARTIN 50th Anniversary cover... which is definitely our favorite of the bunch. We'll have plenty of each cover available on Wednesday, but as a heads up, the Quesada and Quesada sketch variants will both be a bit more limited than the rest.

We're also going to be having a very special NEW COMIC DAY celebration of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #700, as the centerpiece of our Post-Apocalypse, Post-XMas NEW COMIC DAY celebration.

AVENGING SPIDER-MAN #15.1 -- THE EPILOGUE TO AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #700, DON'T MISS OUT ON THIS CRUCIAL COMPANION TO THIS LANDMARK EVENT!

AVENGING SPIDER-MAN is one that may be flying under the radar of many this week, but you know we're quicker than that, Third Eye Faithful.

This week's AVENGING SPIDER-MAN #15.1, kicks off a bold new direction for the title, as it serves as a companion series to SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN, showcasing the interactions of the new Spider-Man with many other characters in the Marvel Universe.

This issue is an especially important one, as it's the EPILOGUE to AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #700, and a very nice bridge between AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #700 and SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #1.

Don't miss out on this one, Third Eye Faithful, as it's a great companion piece to this week's AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #700, and is already set to be one of the more important pieces of the puzzle in regards to SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN.

DC kicks off the THRONE OF ATLANTIS in JUSTICE LEAGUE #15 & AQUAMAN #15 this Wednesday

Two of our favorite DC NEW 52 titles begin to cross paths this Wednesday with JUSTICE LEAGUE and AQUAMAN kicking off the huge THRONE OF ATLANTIS crossover.

Considering both titles have been written by GEOFF JOHNS, the DCU maestro himself, since their debut in September 2011, we're expecting pretty great things from this crossover.

This storyline is a great place for new readers to jump on board two of the DC New 52's top reads, as it begins a bold new arc and progresses the team, the members, and the reality and perception of what the JLA is in the DCU.

In THRONE OF ATLANTIS, we're going to get into much more of the backstory surrounding Aquaman, as well as his disdain for the place he once ruled. There's a lot of decisions that the former King of the Seas will have to make that the Justice League won't agree with.

Mera also is set to play a huge role in the crossover, playing up the storyline of the two of them trying to solve the mystery of Atlantis's sinking.

Our favorite aspect? The introduction of OCEAN MASTER to the NEW 52. This villain is the definition of bad-ass, and we are really digging the cutting edge take that is given to Aquaman's brother.

Folks, if you haven't already been following it, Johns's work on AQUAMAN has been one of the best things going in comics for the last year, and his work on JUSTICE LEAGUE has redefined what a blockbuster team book should be. So, needless to say, this crossover between the two is the definition of MUST-READ.

Whether you've been waiting for a great chance to dip your toe in the DCU, or you're a long-time DCU fan, this is a great place to get into it.

Image launches it's next hit with BRIAN WOOD'S (THE MASSIVE, DMZ, EX MACHINA) MARA #1 this Wednesday

Brian Wood is always a store favorite here, with his past work on series like THE MASSIVE, DEMO, DMZ, NORTHLANDERS and more, so when we saw he was working on a book with one of the most incredible rising star comics artists in the biz right now: Ming Doyle, we knew it was going to be something special.

MARA is the story of an especially gifted woman in a sports-and-war obsessed future. Young Mara Prince is at the top of the world, a global celebrity in a culture that prizes physical achievement above all else. After she manifests supernatural abilities on live TV, she becomes famous all over again but for the worst reasons.

Integrating themes of superpowers, celebrity worship, corporate power, feminism, and policital brinksmanship, MARA takes a classic genre into some very exciting new places.

Folks, this is the kind of book that Brian Wood is born to write. Just like THE MASSIVE, it's the subject matter that you can tell really gets him stoked about comics, and with Ming Doyle's incredible artwork, the book is a must-read.

As the only book IMAGE is releasing this week, we can see why: it's a gorgeous read, and a must-have.

Make sure you snag a copy, and find out why this was their number one choice to drop at the end of the year.

BOOM STUDIOS BRINGS A MATURE READERS SPIN TO THE "SECRET WARS" CONCEPT, AS SUPERHERO ARCH-TYPES BATTLE TO GRISLY DEATHS IN DEATHMATCH #1 THIS WEDNESDAY!
ONLY $1.00!
BOOM! Studios, the folks who've brought us critically-acclaimed series like IRREDEEMABLE, are doing something very cool with their year-end release... THEY'RE KILLING ALL THE SUPERHEROES! :)

Seriously though, DEATHMATCH is too damn neat. This new limited series takes every superhero arch-type you can think of and pits them against one another in a superhero battle royale that you will never see from the major publishers.

When we say every arch-type, we mean it: we're talking BATMAN, SUPERMAN, WONDER WOMAN, WOLVERINE, SPIDER-MAN, IRON MAN, THOR, and so many more.

In issue #1, a mysterious and powerful supervillain has imprisoned the world's greatest superheroes, forcing them to fight to the death until there is but one victor. It's kill or be killed as we settle the score on all those hypothetical superhero match-ups in the ultimate DEATHMATCH.

And, folks, when we say TO THE DEATH, we mean TO THE DEATH!
DEATH MATCH is a dark, psychological deconstruction of the superhero genre that can't be missed, do not sleep on it this Wednesday.

The PHANTOM variant is a very limited edition of a comic, featuring very cool art, and is normally only available at 20 stores WORLDWIDE. We've had past Phantoms on Third Eye favorites like BEDLAM, GREAT PACIFIC, and LEGEND OF LUTHER STRODE, and with this week's DEATHMATCH, we've got a limited of these that we'll be selling on Wednesday for just $1.00 each!

2012: THE YEAR IN REVIEW, CHECK OUT THESE FANTASTIC RELEASES FROM 2012 THIS WEDNESDAY!
There was a ton of incredible books that came out in 2012, and this year did one big thing, I think, for comics: it reminded us that we are living in quite possibly the most exciting age of the medium yet.

I mean, this is a new Golden Age, as we're seeing tons of quality titles coming out from both the major and smaller publishers. There's a diversity in genres, and an increasing level of quality that keeps going up each year.

So, we've decided since it's a pretty light week for new releases, and we know you guys are going to be itching for something new to read, to spotlight some of our favorite new series, re-issues, and more of 2012.

While we won't be going through the full write-ups for each (many of these you've heard us rave about so much already, we don't want to sound like broken records), we do encourage you to ask us about these at the shop, so we can tell you why love 'em.

SAGA -- SAGA is the sweeping tale of one young family fighting to find their place in the worlds. When two soldiers from opposite sides of a never-ending galactic war fall in love, they risk everything to bring a fragile new life into a dangerous old universe. Fantasy and science fiction are wed like never before in a sexy, subversive drama for adults.

AVENGERS VS. X-MEN HC -- The Avengers and the X-Men - the two most popular super-hero teams in history - go to war! This landmark pop-culture event brings together Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Magneto and more in the story that changes them forever! And in AVX: Vs., experience the larger-than-life battles too big for any other comic to contain! Iron Man vs. Magneto! Spider-Man vs. Colossus! Captain America vs. Gambit! And more! Plus: For the first time ever in print, Marvel's groundbreaking Infinite Comics are collected, revealing key events through the eyes of Marvel's major players. It's Marvel's biggest event ever - but will the Avengers or the X-Men emerge triumphant?

BATMAN: DEATH OF THE FAMILY -- In 2011, we were wowed by Scott Snyder's COURT OF OWLS arc, and in 2012, we've been totally blown away by his vicious RETURN OF THE JOKER storyline, DEATH OF THE FAMILY. All chapters in stock and available now.

REVIVAL -- For one day in rural central Wisconsin, the dead came back to life. Now it's up to Officer Dana Cypress to deal with the media scrutiny, religious zealots, and government quarantine that has come with them. In a town where the living have to learn to deal with those who are supposed to be dead, Officer Cypress must solve a brutal murder, and everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect. In stock and available now.

STUFF OF LEGEND OMNIBUS -- This hardcover collection brings together the first two volumes of the New York Times bestselling graphic novel The Stuff of Legend, The Dark and The Jungle, in one beautiful 260-page edition. As Allied forces fight the enemy on Europe's war-torn beaches, another battle begins in a child's bedroom in Brooklyn when the nightmarish Boogeyman snatches a boy and takes him to the realm of the Dark. The child's playthings, led by the toy soldier known as the Colonel, band together to stage a daring rescue. On their perilous mission they will confront the boy's bitter and forgotten toys, as well as betrayal in their own ranks. The Stuff of Legend is a haunting and ultimately redemptive tale of loyalty, camaraderie, and perseverance.

THOR GOD OF THUNDER -- The MARVEL NOW stuff is really top notch, but damn, Thor takes the top spot as our favorite. Really great read.

DEADPOOL KILLS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE TPB -- What if everything you thought was funny about Deadpool was actually just disturbing? What if he decided to kill everyone and everything that makes up the Marvel Universe? What if he actually pulled it off? Would that be FUN for you? The Merc with a Mouth takes a turn for the twisted in a horror comic like no other! Collecting DEADPOOL KILLS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE #1-4.

BEDLAM -- Fillmore Press was once Madder Red, a homicidal maniac and criminal overlord who terrorized the town of Bedlam for years. Then he got better. This is what happens next. A double-sized introduction to a blood-soaked cityscape of murder, mayhem, and mystery.

PROPHET -- On distant future Earth, changed by time and alien influence, John Prophet awakes from cryosleep. His mission: to climb the the towers of Thauili Van and restart the Earth empire. News of the Empire's return brings old foes and allies out of the recesses of the vast cosmos.

EARTH-2 -- Who are the heroes of EARTH 2 - and what befell them? Starring ALAN SCOTT, JAY GARRICK and many others! You may think you know Earth 2...but this is DC Comics - The New 52, where anything can happen!

BUILDING STORIES -- Building Stories follows the inhabitants of a three-flat Chicago apartment house: a 30-year-old woman who has yet to find someone with whom to spend the rest of her life; a couple (possibly married) who wonder if they can bear each other's company for another minute; and finally, an elderly woman who never married and is the building's landlady. The scope, the ambition, the artistry and emotional heft of this project are beyond anything we have yet seen from this artist or in this medium.

ADVENTURE TIME -- Readers called for an amazing Third Printing and here it is! It's Adventure Time! Join Finn the Human, Jake the Dog, and Princess Bubblegum for all-new adventures through The Land of Ooo. The top-rated Cartoon Network show now has its own comic book! With the show exploding in the ratings, garnering rave online reviews, major cosplay at the San Diego Comic-Con, and huge displays dominating the New York Comic Con, it's clear fandom is obsessed and 2012 is the Year of Adventure Time!

BEFORE WATCHMEN -- It was a controversial decision to do prequels to the sacred cow of comics, WATCHMEN, but you know what: each and every one of these have kicked-ass.

THE INVISIBLES OMNIBUS -- Follow the adventures of The Invisibles, a secret organization out to battle the physical and psychic oppression brought upon humanity by the interdimensional alien gods of the Archons of Outer Church! This massive book includes THE INVISIBLES #1-25, THE INVISIBLES VOL. 2 #1-22, THE INVISIBLES VOL. 3 #12-1, and stories from ABSOLUTE VERTIGO #1 and VERTIGO: WINTER'S EDGE #1.

HAWKEYE -- Hawkeye is the definition of everything we love about comics. You NEED to read this series.

BATMAN INCORPORATED -- There's just something pure magic about the way Morrison writes Batman. We love this new incarnation of BATMAN INC.

There's a ton more we'd love to list, but we don't want to flood you with images here. It's been a great year for comics, and the ones listed above are just SOME of the ones we thought were qualifiable for a BEST OF list.

We'll have a special showcase display this week, featuring all of these titles and more, celebrating some of the best moments in comics from 2012.
