This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 1/9/13

OUT OF THE ASHES OF AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #700, SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #1DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY
Folks: meet your new favorite Marvel series. Spidey is back, and holy crap, this is fantastic. We know that the big switch has been controversial to some, but remember: we're going to get some insanely good stories out of this turn of events, and that's what it's all about.
As we brought AMAZING SPIDER-MAN to a close with issue #700, we saw a new change... Peter Parker's brain and spirit had died, moving onto the afterlife, and now, residing in Peter's body, in SPIDER-MAN's body, is the mind and consciousness of Doctor Octopus.
The perfect counter-part to Peter; this scientist-gone-wrong walked a path that was almost an exact fractured mirror of the wallcrawler's own. Instead, the experiments that gave him his ability twisted his own view of the world, and grew him into the villain we knew for so long.
Now, after being flooded with the emotions and memories of Parker, and realizing the weight of responsibility Parker carried as Spider-Man, Otto intends to truly honor the mantle of Spider-Man.
Of course, this is Doc Ock, we're talking about, and old habits die hard... his arrogance is still a key part of the character, which really brings this one an interesting dynamic. While not "evil" like many Spider-Man villains, Doc Ock was the definition of a Spider-Man bad guy. A villain due to circumstance, and now, he has a second chance to do things the right way.. to do them better than Parker had ever done. And he intends to prove why he is the SUPERIOR Spider-Man.
Featuring the writing of Dan Slott, and the absolutely gorgeous artwork of Ryan Stegman (who made those early issues of the current SCARLET SPIDER run so awesome) come together to make this book the definition of a must-read.
Even if you've never been a big Spidey fan, we promise, you'll find something you like here, as the book brings a very interesting, very edgy take to the Marvel Universe.
It's also interesting to note how we're seeing the classic tale of power and responsibility that's so integral to the character of Spider-Man being retold, and refocused like it's never been done before. Doc Ock is learning, from the ground up, just how much power Spider-Man holds, and how to carry the weight of that power.
This is really a killer read, folks. Give it a shot this week.
Need to get caught up? We've got issues 698-700 all in stock now, which collect the entire 4-part DYING WISH arc that leads into SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN.
We also have AVENGING SPIDER-MAN #15.1 in stock as well, which features the epilogue to issue #700, and the bridge into SUPERIOR.

THIRD EYE STEVE GETS KILLED ON THE COVER OF THIS WEDNESDAY'S LEGEND OF LUTHER STRODE #2
The LEGEND OF LUTHER STRODE is the highly anticipated sequel to last year's STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE, and many of you may already be totally aware of the awesomeness of this series after our huge launch party for LEGEND OF LUTHER STRODE #1.
Now, this week's second issue, not only delivers the Luther Strode goodness in a major way, but it also sports a very special PHANTOM cover featuring your's truly getting disemboweled by Luther Strode.
I'm not gonna lie, I'm personally very stoked about this, 'cause I love Tradd's artwork, and getting immortalized on one of his covers is a pretty awesome thing.
Not reading LUTHER STRODE? YOU NEED TO BE. What's it all about? Okay, so check this out, Luther's a teenage comic fan, who decides to start following one of those GET RIPPED Charles Atlas-style mailaway programs. He quickly begins to develop superhuman abilities, and like any self-respecting comic fan, fashions a costume, and goes out to fight crime.
But, he doesn't realize that the training and regimen he's been following is actually turning him into the next Great Killing Machine. A super-slasher in the vein of Genghis Khan, Jack the Ripper, and many others.
A mysterious figure known as the Librarian sees Luther as the next in a long-line of Super-Predators who's murders push civilization to greater heights.
Of course, Luther being the downright good and noble person he is, doesn't click too well with this when he finds out, and decides to fight his destiny.
Now, in LEGEND OF LUTHER STRODE, it's been 5 years of Luther hunting those who commit acts of evil... and 5 years of fighting the demons that reside within him.
Some say he's a myth, some say he's a nightmare, but to many: he is Legend.
Great art, great storytelling, one of the best books of the past few years, we cannot recommend LUTHER STRODE enough.
Wanna get into it? We've got the STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE trade paperback in stock now to catch you up, and then issues 1 & 2 of LEGEND OF LUTHER STRODE to get you current with the new series.
We also still have limited quantities of our Third Eye Comics exclusive variant of LEGEND OF LUTHER STRODE #1 available.

STAR WARS #1 BRINGS A NEW ONGOING SERIES TELLING NEW STORIES SET IN THE SAME TIME PERIOD AS THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY!
FROM CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED COMICS WRITER BRIAN WOOD (MARA, THE MASSIVE, DMZ, DEMO, NORTHLANDERS)
A MUST-READ!
I gotta tell ya, I love STAR WARS. I'm OK with the prequels, but as a kid in the '80s, and a teenager in the '90s, my exposure to Star Wars the classic Trilogy stuff, and that's the stuff I always find myself getting the most excited about.
When I saw one of our favorite writers, BRIAN WOOD, who's wowed us with cutting edge material like DMZ, NORTHLANDERS, DEMO, and currently THE MASSIVE and MARA, was going to be helming this new STAR WARS series, I knew it was a book not to be missed, and is so much more than another new Star Wars comic.
This is STAR WARS as you remember it.. and as you have never seen it before! In this new series, Dark Horse takes you back to those heady, adventure-filled days following the destruction of the Death Star -- when the Empire ruled, the Rebels were on the run, and the galaxy was a dangerous place where anything might happen.
Folks: this comic is going to kick so much ass, it's ridiculous. Even if you don't normally go for the STAR WARS stuff, please, give this one a shot. I htink it looks incredible.

CABLE AND X-FORCE #3 - THE RADDEST TAKE ON X-FORCE WE'VE SEEN IN A WHILE CONTINUES AS CLASSIC '90s ICONS ARE GIVEN A NEW SPIN!
We've always had a soft spot for characters like Cable, Domino, and Forge,  so you can bet that the new CABLE AND X-FORCE series from Marvel has us hooked.

Featuring a team assembled to deal with the more radical concerns of the X-Men, Cable and X-Force consists of characters like Colossus, Domino, Forge, and more, as they do the things the ordinary X-Men are unable to.

The writing and art on this one have been top notch, and we're digging every second of the first two issues, so we're eager to see how things go down in this week's issue #3.

CONAN: QUEEN OF THE BLACK COAST HC COLLECTS ISSUES 1-6 OF BRIAN WOOD & BECKY CLOONAN'S INCREDIBLE NEW CONAN THE BARBARIAN SERIES
You guys already read our gushing about how much we dig Brian Wood's stuff in our write-up of the upcoming STAR WARS series, and if you don't already know, we're also huge fans of BECKY CLOONAN, who's work on stuff like WOLVES, DEMO, and AMERICAN VIRGIN has always impressed us.
So, seeing these two reunite to tell some kick-ass Conan stories is pretty much a match made in heaven.
Kicking off Dark Horse's new CONAN THE BARBARIAN series, Conan turns his back on the civilized world and takes to the Western Ocean. Finding first danger and then passion in the arms of the pirate queen Belit, the Cimmerian begins a new life of pleasure and pillage along the Black Coast, in this epic of romance and terror.
Fantastic stuff, and a great jumping on point for anyone who's been wanting to get into CONAN, the new CONAN THE BARBARIAN stuff is killer.

A MUST-READ FOR FANS OF CHEW, IMAGE HITS A HOMERUN WITH NEW SERIES END TIMES OF BRAM AND BEN #1 THIS WEDNESDAY
This one caught our eye -- looks like it has that same balance of strong storytelling, and quirky humor that CHEW does.
What's it all about? What would you do if you were caught in the Biblical End Times? When Heaven raptures total bastard Bram Carlson in a 'clerical error' -- he's sent back and immediately uses Armaggedon to his benefit!
Can his anxious roommate Ben save Bram from himself -- and the quickly gathering forces of Armaggedon?
This new IMAGE series looks to be a blast, and we can't wait to check it out. It's very reminiscent of stuff like the movie DOGMA, the comic series CHEW, and more.

VALIANT'S HARBINGER ARRIVES IN TRADE PAPERBACK THIS WEDNESDAY WITH HARBINGER: OMEGA RISING VOL.1 TPB
The VALIANT relaunch has definitely been one of the most exciting things to happen in the last couple of years, as cutting edge creators bring fresh new takes to classic superhero arch-types, and provide new reader-friendly jumping on points for the Valiant characters.
In HARBINGER, writer Joshua Dysart (UNKNOWN SOLDIER) delivers the tale of super-powered teenager Peter Stancheck, and the dangerous path he's traveling.
Skipping across the country in a desperate attempt to stay one step ahead o the authorities, Peter is quickly realizing that he's a psionically-charged "harbinger" with the potential to reshape the course of human history.
But Peter's plight has not gone unnoticed. Repsected philanthropist, and fellow Harbinger, Toyo Harada is about to offer Peter the chance at the things for which the boy has always longed -- family, inner peace, self-control -- and induct him into the sprawlig, secret network of conspiracy and subversion known as the Harbinger Foundation.
Now, Peter begins his long road towards a destiny that will shake the very foundations of the Valiant Universe. His first lesson? All power comes with a price.
This series is one of our VALIANT releases, with incredible artwork, and compelling storytelling. It's a must for fans of things like the movie CHRONICLE, or the manga AKIRA.

MARS ATTACKS KISS ONE-SHOT CONTINUES IDW'S WEEKLY MARS ATTACKS INVASION CROSSOVER

IDW has done pretty awesome with their crazy crossovers, like INFESTATION and INFESTATION 2, and so far, their totally over-the-top, totally gory, and totally fun MARS ATTACKS IDW crossover has us pretty hooked.

I mean, we just need to say 3 words here: MARS ATTACKS KISS. How can this not be awesome?

Taking place in 1970s New York, four teens are handed the power to become godlike figures... but, the Martians are planning on taking that power for themselves.

REPOSSESSED #1 DEBUTS FROM IMAGE COMICS THIS WEDNESDAY.. REPO AGENTS WHO CHASE DOWN DEMONS? THIS IS AWESOME.
Remember that kick-ass '80s flick REPO MAN? We're big fans. The movie, the soundtrack, the whole shebang is utter cinematic perfection.
Now, imagine if REPO MAN had a comic book counterpart... with more demons, and less aliens? It'd be REPOSSESSED, and it's awesome.
This new IMAGE series is a kick to the teeth, and we love every second of it.
In a world where Demon possessions are commonplace it's up to a crew of overworked blue-collar repo guys to repossess the victims with old grimoires and big guns.
The Dee Agency is hired by a rich NYC banker to repossess his daughter Sarah who ran away to Vegas.
But the job is tougher than they expected and Demons of all sorts begin to pop up on the trail.
Quirky, violent, loaded with cool occult imagery, REPOSSESSED is a must, Third Eye Faithful. If you dig stuff like WITCH DOCTOR, or CHEW, this is totally up your alley.

THOR GOD OF THUNDER #4 CONTINUES THE AWESOME STREAK OF WHAT MANY ARE CALLING THE BEST MARVEL NOW TITLE
The new THOR series is definitely one of our biggest favorites amongst the MARVEL NOW relaunches, and Jason Aaron continues to keep it on top of the reading pile with this week's issue #4.

Playing heavily into the mythology of Thor, this arc focuses on a new villain known as the GOD BUTCHER, who's killing the different pantheons of gods. The Greek gods, the Roman gods, ect. Now, he's come to Asgard, and he's attacking Thor in the past, in the present, and in the future.

In this week's #4, we're shown thousands of years in the future where the last god king of a ruined Asgard makes his final stand against the berserker legions of the God Butcher.

The question is: how far can a king fall? How far can King Thor fall?

Esad Ribic's art makes this one an absolute treat, Third Eye Faithful, and Aaron is on point as always.

GET INTO IT! We've got issues 1-3 in stock now to catch you up to Wednesday's #4.

Man, we really love the new THUNDERBOLTS series that relaunched in the MARVEL NOW. I mean, it's total fanboy awesomeness, and that's why we love it.
A special ops team of anti-hero characters that kill the bad guys? Count us in. Elektra, Red Hulk, Deadpool, The Punisher, and Venom all lay down the smack in a major way.
This week in issue #3, we're introduced to the team's newest member: the Red Leader. I'm pretty darn intrigued to see what the scoop on this is.
