Out of all the new MARVEL NOW releases hitting in 2013, I have to say: I think YOUNG AVENGERS #1 is one that I'm most excited about.
I've been a fan of the YOUNG AVENGERS since the original series by ALLEN HEINBERG and JIMMY CHEUNG back in the day, and have been waiting for them to get the kind of marquee treatment they deserve.
This week's YOUNG AVENGERS #1 looks to be doing that in a major way, as JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY writer KIERON GILLEN pairs up with artists JAMIE MCKELVIE and MIKE NORTON to deliver one of the raddest takes we've seen on the YOUNG AVENGERS since the original series back in the day.
For those of you who've never read the characters, we gotta tell you: this is fresh stuff. This is interesting, cutting edge 21st century comics storytelling with strong characters that'll grow on you.
Young Avengers is the kinda MARVEL book that you need to be reading if you're a major fan of series like SAGA, MORNING GLORIES or AVENGERS ARENA. It's the kind of new, and fresh take on the MARVEL UNIVERSE that really captivates us as readers, and we dig it.
Legacy isn't a dirty word -- but it is an irrelevant one. It's not important what our parents did. It matters what WE do. Someone has to save the world. You're someone. Do the math. The critically acclaimed writing of Kieron Gillen, who turned JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY into a major cult favorite featuring the exploits of KID LOKI have reinvented the teen superhero comic for the 21st century, uniting Wiccan, Hulkling, and Hawkeye with Loki, Marvel Boy, and Ms. America.

REVIVAL #6 -- ONE OF THE BEST NEW IMAGE SERIES OF 2012 CONTINUES TO IMPRESS IN 2013 -- Meet artist MIKE NORTON this Saturday at THIRD EYE!
REVIVAL has been one of those IMAGE hit releases that just refuses to slow down; it gets better and better with each issue, and continues to pick up new readers every month as a result, and folks, I gotta tell you, I'm proud to say we've been singing it's praises since issue #1.
REVIVAL is a smart rural noir / horror hybrid that combines the isolated crime thriller storytelling of a movie like FARGO or NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN with the eerie, supernatural-themed horror storytelling of something like THE EXORCIST, or PARANORMAL ACTIVITY.
What's it about? For one day in rural central Wisconsin, the dead came back to life. In issue #6, Dana investigates the murder of a prominent psychologist who specialized in coping with returned loved ones... aka.. the living dead.
And, it's issues like this why we love the series so much. The way that the idea of "living dead" is handled is so different from most zombie stories; adding a creepy, almost biblical kind of sense to the 'revivers' as they're called.

UNCANNY AVENGERS is a fantastic read, and serves as a great follow-up to AVENGERS VS. X-MEN, as it merges the two teams into one, giving us a roster consisting of HAVOK, THOR, SCARLET WITCH, CAPTAIN AMERICA, ROGUE, and WOLVERINE.
Rick Remender, writer of FEAR AGENT, UNCANNY X-FORCE, and CAPTAIN AMERICA, serves up some of his best work here, giving the book a tone that's reminiscent of the '90s X-MEN animated series, but with a modern, cutting edge spin.

DEATH OF THE FAMILY CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY IN NIGHTWING #16 & RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #16
The DEATH OF THE FAMILY continues to reign as our favorite thing coming out of DC COMICS right now, and this week's round of tie-ins for DEATH OF THE FAMILY both deliver incredible reads.
In NIGHTWING #16, we're shown that things can get much worse, even after the shocking events at the conclusion of last month's NIGHTWING #15.
Now, Dick Grayson's past is about to burn down around him... literally!
And, in RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #16, which ties into this month's TEEN TITANS #16, we're shown that Tim Drake and Jason Todd are desperately trying to survive their confrontation with THE JOKER, while keeping their respective teams from killing each other.
Both of these were great tie-ins to the DEATH OF THE FAMILY event, and we cannot wait to see where things head next after this.

SACRIFICE #4 -- THE SELF-PUBLISHED INDIE GEM FROM SAM HUMPHRIES CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY
SACRIFICE launched last year out of nowhere, and took the comics industry by storm. The unique, and innovative approach that creator SAM HUMPHRIES took to micro-distributing the title amongst the top comic shops in the U.S remains impressive to this day, and we haven't even begun to talk about the actual quality of the book, which is insanely high.
SACRIFICE is one of those fantastic, yet rare combinations of gorgeous art, and solid writing that just makes for killer comics.
What's the story about? Picture this: Hector is a young Joy Division fan who's suffering from epilepsy, and as a possible result of a tattoo he has, he finds himself traveling in time to an ancient Aztec civilization.
From there, he's put on a slab, and deemed necessary as a Sacrifice to the Sun Gods.
Dalton Rose's art makes the book pop, bringing an energy very reminiscent of Paul Pope, while Humphries delivers a fascinating story that tackles genres like sci-fi, drama, history, and more.

We've been consistently impressed by each and every one of the new VALIANT COMICS titles that relaunched almost a year ago; but HARBINGER continues to be one of our top favorites of the line.
This series, which will appeal to those of you who're big fans of things like the movie CHRONICLE, or the manga / anime AKIRA, is a great example of the level of quality and cutting edge approach to storytelling that VALIANT is bringing to the superhero genre. Writer Joshua Dysart, who wowed us with his cult favorite UNKNOWN SOLDIER series from VERTIGO, is crafting a killer story about all-powerful corporations, immortal beings, and young men and women who find themselves harboring the power of gods.
As we get closer, and closer to the upcoming HARBINGER WARS storyline that we guarantee will have a ton of you guys taking major notice of VALIANT, HARBINGER continues to heat up.
