This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 1/30/13

SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #2 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, DELIVERING THE SECOND ISSUE OF THE HOTTEST MARVEL NOW TITLE ON THE STANDS!
This Wednesday, the second issue of the most exciting run of SPIDER-MAN since Todd McFarlane's relaunch of the character nearly twenty years ago arrives, and folks, we could not be more stoked.

The first issue of this fantastic new series gripped us, and did not let go, delivering the perfect combination of solid, compelling storytelling, and jawdropping artwork, so now we're pretty excited to see the second issue arriving to follow up on the cliffhanger ending of issue #1.

I can truthfully tell you that since this whole arc began in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #698, and culminating in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #700, SPIDER-MAN has shot up to the top of my list of comics I look forward to every month. Now, with the end result being SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN, I am officially hooked.
By now, most of you have either read or heard about the shocking ending of SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #1. I mean, obviously, we all know that Doc Ock has inhabited the body of Peter Parker, and is now SPIDER-MAN; intent on proving that he is better in every way than Parker, but what we were shown at the end of issue #1.... DUDE. Now, that's a twist!
With the ghost of Parker acting as an unknown "conscience", and preventing Otto from getting blood on the hands of Spider-Man, even in an effort to fight evil... we can just tell we're in for a very interesting new journey for the Wallcrawler.
And... from the looks of issue #2, we may be seeing the final reunion of Spider-Man and Mary Jane; of course, this isn't how I think most people thought they'd be seeing it.
All in all: SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN is the definition of kick-ass comics, and we give it major props.
Wanna get on board? We've got plenty of copies of the 1st print SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #1 in stock to hook you up, and if you need the prelude arc, DYING WISH, we have plenty of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #698-700 in stock to get you current.

INVINCIBLE #100 -- WALKING DEAD writer ROBERT KIRKMAN delivers the end of an era, and a new beginning with INVINCIBLE #100 -- Never read this great series, JUMP ON NOW!
GET ALL 7 Covers for only $34.99, including the limited edition CHROMIUM cover!
Folks, we know there's a ton of you who already read INVINCIBLE, and love it to death; and we know, that just like with WALKING DEAD, spoilers mean a lot with this book, so: we are not saying a freakin' thing about issue #100.

Just trust us on these things: this issue ends an era for one of the most beloved monthly series on the stands, this issue begins an exciting era for one of the best comics on the stands, and this issue is a must for anyone who is either a huge WALKING DEAD fan and needs something to fill that void in between issues / trades, or just enjoys plain kick-ass awesome comics.
In other words, if you've never read INVINCIBLE, and have been waiting for a great place to start, issue #100 is a perfect opportunity to try out one of the books that we've long considered to be a top 5er here at Third Eye when it comes to what we look forward to the most.
Since we can't tell you about what goes down in issue #100, we will tell you about WHY we're so amped about INVINCIBLE #100, and INVINCIBLE in general.
Right around the same time that Kirkman began the WALKING DEAD, he also started another book at IMAGE, a superhero book that, at the time, did not really stick out amongst many of Image's offerings.
However, much like WALKING DEAD crept up out of nowhere and took everyone by surprise, people soon knew after just a few issues that INVINCIBLE was much more than an ordinary superhero comic.
INVINCIBLE is the tale of Mark Grayson, a teenager who finds out at the beginning of the series that his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, the equivalent of SUPERMAN.
Mark also quickly learns, after a very bloody dismantling of the Guardians of the Globe (think the JUSTICE LEAGUE), that his father is not what he seems. Instead of being the last of his kind, and the savior of the human race, he's actually a sleeper agent for his people, the Viltrumites, and is putting his plan to enslave humanity and take Earth for the Viltrumite Empire into action.
From there, Mark and his father have a bloody throwdown, and Mark ends up finding himself filling the role of his dad.
Now, after years of growing into the role of Invincible, and protecting the planet... we've seen Mark grow and evolve as a character, much like we have WALKING DEAD characters like Rick and Carl.
Along the way, we've become attached to characters, and seen characters die suddenly, much like the WALKING DEAD, and much like WALKING DEAD, this is one of the best comics on the stands in terms of sharp cliffhangers.
Now, with this week's issue #100, you've got the perfect opportunity to jump on board the series, and give it a shot.
While we don't recommend back-tracking on the recent issues, as it's better to catch up with the trades (which we have volumes 1-17 in stock and available now), we do recommend snagging issue #100, as this is the start of a new era, and a great spot to get on board one of the best reads out.
For those of you who normally read INVINCIBLE in trade paperback only, we highly recommend snagging at least one copy of issue #100, as this is truly a landmark.
We'll have plenty of each cover of INVINCIBLE available this Wednesday, with a total of 8 stellar covers by artists who've been closely involved with the series, or are just plain awesome.
GET ALL 8 COVERS OF INVINCIBLE #100, including the CHROMIUM cover, for just $34.99
We'll have all 8 of the INVINCIBLE #100 covers available individually for sale this Wednesday, but also, in the form of a special value-pack for only $34.99, including the CHROMIUM variant, which will available in only limited quantities. Make sure to reserve your bundle quick, as these will go very fast; judging by the popularity of our past experience with the WALKING DEAD bundle packs.

ETHAN VAN SCIVER, legendary GREEN LANTERN and FLASH REBIRTH artist, begins a new story arc on BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT #16 this Wednesday!
Great Jumping on Point!
BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT has been a solid read since it's launch, but it hasn't been until this week's issue #16, that we've really had our minds blown by the book.
And, why is that you might ask? It's because ETHAN VAN SCIVER is illustrating the book now, and holy crap, if you thought DAVID FINCH was good, wait'll you see Van Sciver's work here.
In this new arc, the MAD HATTER is given the 'reinvention'; formula that we've seen with many once second-tier characters that are now major players (think Riddler, Two-Face, etc.)
Now, brought to life by Ethan Van Sciver's incredible artwork, as seen in modern classics like SINESTRO CROPS WAR and FLASH REBIRTH, we're going to journey into the twisted world of the Mad Hatter -- and Batman is going to quickly discover this is like no other Mad Hatter case he's seen before.
A dark, macabre look at the BATMAN universe; DARK KNIGHT #16 is a FANTASTIC spot to jump on board, and get a taste of this killer read that spotlights various BATMAN Rogues.

DOCTOR WHO: PRISONERS OF TIME #1 ( OF 12 ) begins a brand new maxiseries exploring and uniting ALL 11 incarnations of THE DOCTOR into one story!
You guys know we're big DOCTOR WHO fans here at Third Eye, and when we saw that IDW was going to be having the writers of the killer STAR TREK / DOCTOR WHO crossover pen a brand new 12-issue maxiseries that not only explores each of the 11 Doctors, but brings them together into  one massive story... we knew were in for a treat.

It all starts with November 23rd, 1963: a day that changed the world forever. That, folks, was the day the first episode of Doctor Who broadcast, and became the longest-running science fiction series on TV.

Now, 50 years later, IDW is paying tribute to one of the greatest pop culture heroes of all time, with an epic adventure that features all 11 incarnations of the Doctor and the Companion.

It's not confirmed yet if issue #12 is going to be the introduction of a NEW Doctor, or something else altogether, but we cannot wait to see wheret his one is heading.

ONE OF OUR FAVORITE SERIES, HAWKEYE, ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY WITHHAWKEYE #7.
NOT READING THIS ONE? WE'VE GOT ISSUES 1-6 IN STOCK NOW TO CATCH YOU UP!
Folks, again and again, we've sung the praises of HAWKEYE, but you know what: we're going to say it again, this book is amazing.
Quite possibly one of our favorite Marvel books on the stands, HAWKEYE is an addicting, compelling series that delivers the best in both storytelling and artwork that comics has to offer.
In this special stand-alone issue, Hawkeye and Kate Bishop find themselves dealing with the ramifications of Hurricane Sandy, as it hammers the East Coast.
This is a great little jumping on point issue to get into the series with before the next major arc begins, as Fraction and Aja introduce The Clown.
Wanna go back and start HAWKEYE from the beginning? We know the early issues have been selling out nationwide, but we've got plenty of copies of issues 1-6 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #7.

IMAGE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF ERIC STEPHENSON CONTINUES TO WOW US WITH HIS NEW NOWHERE MEN SERIES THIS WEDNESDAY IN NOWHERE MEN #3
PURE AWESOME SCI-FI GOODNESS! A MUST FOR FANS OF MANHATTAN PROJECTS!
NOWHERE MEN 1 & 2 have both impressed the heck out of us, with it's incredible storytelling, and the gorgeous artwork of Nate Bellegarde and Jordie Bellaire.

In NOWHERE MEN, Science is the new Rock-N-Roll. It focuses on a "fab four" of scientists, a supergroup of geniuses, who changed the world years ago, and instead of a culture finding itself engrossed by the power of music, it is instead fascinated with the power of science.
Garage bands are out, garage physics are in, and the NOWHERE MEN are the ones responsible for this.
Dade Ellis, Simon Grimshaw, Emerson Strange, and Thomas Walker are the men behind World Corps, the company they formed to change the world.
In just one issue, the main cast of NOWHERE MEN is fleshed out extremely well, and by the time you get to issue #2, you're hooked.
Focusing on the generation that's formed in the wake of the NOWHERE MEN, and their disregard for the safety that the originators have; as well as the byproduct of what science's good deeds can sometimes cause; NOWHERE MEN is a great mix of gorgeous storytelling, stunning design and layout, classic sci-fi world-building, and the kind of retro-business drama of MADMEN. Throw in a little bit of pop music mystique, and you've got yourself a great read.
Wanna get on board? We've got issues 1 & 2 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #3.

AVENGERS #4 -- THE FLAGSHIP AVENGERS TITLE CONTINUES TO IMPRESS, AS JONATHAN HICKMAN DELIVERS A WIDESCREEN, MAD SCIENCE-CHARGED LOOK AT THE MARVEL UNIVERSE!
In this week's AVENGERS #4 -- it's the DEATH AND RESURRECTION OF MAJOR TITANS! How epic does that sounds? Pretty freakin' epic.

Jonathan Hickman has been building the most incredible, over-the-top look at the AVENGERS that we've ever seen, folks, channeling the kind of bigger-than-life, everything important is at stake, urgency that classic AVENGERS runs like the original Perez stuff did back in the day.

As the self-styled gods, THE GARDEN, dismantle the AVENGERS, Captain America goes global, heck, galactic even, and brings in a large team of AVENGERS that can help take these self-styled creators down.

In issue #4, we learn the secret origins of SUPREME POWER / SQUADRON SUPREME favorite HYPERION, as well as getting to witness the Legacy of the Garden unfold in the SAVAGE LAND.

Not only does this series read great, but the art team of JEROME OPENA and ADAM KUBERT make this book look so freakin' good, it's ridiculous.

One of the best of the MARVEL NOW titles, Third Eye Faithful, we highly recommend giving AVENGERS a shot.

Wanna get caught up? We've got issues 1-3 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #4.

BRIAN WOOD, writer of the new STAR WARS, THE MASSIVE, DEMO, DMZ, NORTHLANDERS & more, DELIVERS A STELLAR READ WITH IMAGE'S "MARA",MARA #2 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY
We loved the first issue of Brian Wood and Ming Doyle's new IMAGE series, MARA, and are totally pumped to see what's up in this week's issue #2.

As superstar athlete Mara Prince's superpower manifestation is caught on live TV, her life rapidly starts to spiral out of control. The media descends like vultures. Her handlers go into spin mode. The footage is seen around the world, an this young woman, who only hours ago was the darling of pop culture, is now being slammed and ridiculed for being a fraud and a liar. But the more she tries to fight back, the only thing she's doing is escalating the problem.

A sci-fi take on real world superheroes. Mara is an incredible read, and is more timely than ever with the recent Lance Armstrong controversy.

Great dialogue, great characterization, and gorgeous artwork by Ming Doyle & Jordie Bellaire -- we highly recommend this book.

Wanna get into it? We've got issue 1 in stock now to get you caught up to this week's #2.

THE CAPE 1969 ARRIVES IN GRAPHIC NOVEL THIS WEDNESDAY, DELIVERING THE KILLER PREQUEL TO LOCKE & KEY writer JOE HILL'S INCREDIBLE "THE CAPE" series.
Collecting the entire CAPE 1969 mini-series, this graphic novel delivers the shocking prequel to Joe Hill's now infamous THE CAPE graphic novel.

THE CAPE, if you aren't already aware of it, is an incredible look at what happens when an everyday loser ends up getting the ability of a god; a real world look at how a supervillain is truly born. And, it's a grim, dark, and graphic look at such a thing -- but also, pretty damn funny.

In THE CAPE 1969, it's 1969 and the war in Vietnam rages on. Captain Chase, a Medevac helicopter pilot for the US Army, is shot down over enemy territory.

He and his crew are in a fight for their lives as they play a deadly game of cat and mouse with the Vietcong.

We soon learn that machine guns and grenades aren't the only scary things hiding in the jungle.

SILVER SURFER BY STAN LEE & MOEBIUS ONE-SHOT ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY; A REPRINT OF ONE OF OUR FAVORITE ARTISTS WORKS.
Many of you guys know that the late, great Moebius is one my own personal favorite artists, and we all love his stuff here at Third Eye.

I mean, the guy pretty much defined an entire style of comic art; when you can refer to an artist as being "Moebius-esque", I mean, that means something, right?

Well, this Wednesday, Marvel is putting out a great little one-shot that reprints the Silver Surfer story by Moebius and Stan Lee from back in the day; SILVER SURFER: PARABLE.

In this one-shot, GALACTUS has converted humanity into his followers, and he's leading them to their doom! His only challenger is the hero he himself trapped on Earth: The Silver Surfer.

It's a war for Earth's worship, but how much will be left when it's over?

Moebius's art brings an eerie, spacey vibe to this story, making it really stand out as quite possibly THE best Silver Surfer story of all time.

Folks, do yourself a favor this Wednesday, and snag yourself a copy of this classic gem, and find out why Moebius is so damn important to the world of comics.
