This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 2/20/13

NOVA #1 -- THE BREAKOUT HIT OF THE YEAR FOR MARVEL DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY!
DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS BOOK!
Third Eye Faithful, let me tell you, I've been eagerly awaiting the release of NOVA since I first saw the advance pages on this one months ago.
Why? Not only because I'm personally very excited about the book, but because I cannot wait to share with you guys how freakin' magnificent this title is going to be.
Every year, there's that one gem from Marvel that often flies under the radar, whether it was Waid's DAREDEVIL in 2011, or Fraction's HAWKEYE in 2012, there's that one title that all of the sudden blows up around issue 4 or 5, and everyone is like "Man! Why didn't I get on this sooner?"
Nova is that title for 2013, Third Eye Faithful, so DO NOT sleep on it this Wednesday. Trust us: this is going to be one of the best books of the year, and issue #1 makes a very impressive debut.
Why're we so jazzed? First off, it's the reunion of iconic creative team JEPH LOEB and ED MCGUINNESS, who wowed us in the past with the now classic SUPERMAN / BATMAN: PUBLIC ENEMIES arc. Not to mention their own separate contributions to the halls of comic greatness, like BATMAN THE LONG HALLOWEEN, BATMAN: HUSH, and the classic JOE KELLY Deadpool stuff.
These two are legends in comics, and what's even cooler, is they're bringing what may be their best work ever to us with NOVA.
The book is fresh, it's bigger than life, and it's showing off some of the most incredible work from both Loeb and McGuinness that we've seen in quite some time.
McGuiness captures the crazy, hyper-kinetic space opera meets INVINCIBLE (Kirkman) awesomeness that Loeb is laying out here perfectly, and brings it to life in such a way that it can barely be contained on the page.
Loeb's storytelling is right on point, as he brings distinct voices to the characters, and introduces a new angle to the cosmic Marvel stuff.
What's NOVA all about? You've followed him through the history-making AvX and now the mystery of the all-new NOVA is revealed in this breath-taking new ongoing series.
Sam Alexander is a kid bound by the gravity of a small town and a father whose ridiculous, drunken fairy tales about a "Nova Corps" were just another heavy burden in a life full of them. But luckily for Sam Alexander... soon gravity won't even matter. And those troubles? It's like they're a billion miles away.
Folks: I have so much faith in this book, if you buy NOVA, and hate it? I'll let you bring it back and exchange it for something else. I mean it: it's that good.
Snag yourself a copy this Wednesday of what's sure to be one of the biggest hits of Marvel's 2013 line-up.

GI JOE #1 -- The REAL AMERICAN HERO gets a modern edge in this brand new ongoing series from IDW!

GEOFF JOHNS (BLACKEST NIGHT, AQUAMAN) & DAVID FINCH (BATMAN THE DARK KNIGHT, MOON KNIGHT, ULTIMATUM) UNITE TO DELIVER THE BIGGEST NEW 52 TITLE YET:
JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1
We'll have ALL 53 State Flags available this Wednesday!
Folks, the DC UNIVERSE is about to get extremely interesting, as they debut their biggest NEW 52 since BATMAN #1 and JUSTICE LEAGUE #1, with this Wednesday's JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1.

Featuring writing by GEOFF JOHNS (the legend behind BLACKEST NIGHT, SINESTRO CORPS WAR, AQUAMAN, FLASHPOINT, and so much more) and DAVID FINCH (the superstar artist who's brought us so much awesome on BATMAN THE DARK KNIGHT), JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #1 brings together a team of DC heroes that aren't afraid to push the boundaries of what a hero can and can't do to make sure justice is served.

Featuring GREEN LANTERN, GREEN ARROW, CATWOMAN, KATANA, VIBE, THE MARTIAN MANHUNTER, HAWKMAN and STAR GIRL, this book provides an interesting look at both heavy-hitting DCU heroes, and lesser-known characters, that has us extremely intrigued to see where it goes.

They aren't the world's greatest superheroes -- they're the world's most dangerous. But why does a team like the JLA need to exist? What is their ultimate mission? And who is pulling the strings?

And, folks, get ready to see Geoff Johns do for MARTIAN MANHUNTER what he did for AQUAMAN, as he shows us why the Manhunter is not only the most interesting of the team, but the most dangerous as well.

We're extremely pumped to see how you guys like this one this week, 'cause we thought it was fantastic!

SAGA #10 -- THE BEST KEEPS GETTING BETTER, AS SAGA DELIVERS ANOTHER AMAZING ISSUE THIS WEEK!
Brothers and sisters of the church of Third Eye, I gotta tell ya: SAGA really is the best of the best right now. This comic impresses me each and every issue, and I still cannot get enough of it.
It really is my favorite monthly book right now, and if you're not reading it yet: you've gotta start.
Imagine the epic scope of the classic STAR WARS trilogy, the snappy dialogue and strong characterizations of Joss Whedon's FIREFLY/SERENITY, and the mature themes of GEORGE RR MARTIN's A GAME OF THRONES all rolled into one amazing comic by the writer of modern masterpiece Y: THE LAST MAN.
That, my friends, is SAGA.
The tale of two people from planets at war with one another who've fallen in love, had a child, and will do anything in their power to protect it, SAGA is a perfect example of everything that is RIGHT about comics in 2013.
It's smart, it's entertaining, it's layered with strong characters, interesting plot points, and it's not afraid to go over the edge. It's fantastic.
This week's #10 brings us the return of Marko and Alana's ghostly babysitter Izabel... but, what does her return cost them?
Wanna get into SAGA? We've got the first trade collecting issues 1-6 in stock now for only $9.99, and then we have issues 7-9 available to catch you up to issue #10 this Wednesday.
Trust us: it's worth it. You'll love it.

ALPHA: BIG TIME #1 INTRODUCES THE YOUNG PROTEGE OF THE NEW SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN... IMAGINE JOE HILL'S "THE CAPE" in the MARVEL UNIVERSE!
Written by Third Eye favorite JOSHUA HALE FIALKOV (ECHOES, I VAMPIRE)
We've been big fans of Fialkov's for a while now, with his wonderfully morbid horror / crime graphic novels TUMOR and ECHOES, and his recent work on the cult favorite I VAMPIRE series at DC.

So, when we saw Fialkov would be writing this fascinating look at the darker side of superheroes, we knew it'd be great.

The totally jerky, totally immature, and selfish ALPHA WAS having a blast being a superhero... and then Spider-Man made him quit doing his thing.

Of course, things are different now, and there's a new Spider-Man, a SUPERIOR Spider-Man, who sees potential in Alpha and has decided to train him in the art of being a "hero."

Folks: this is freakin' cool. A villain working as a hero (Doc Ock as Spidey) training a selfish brat who wants to be a superhero.... I mean, it's awesome. Very cool stuff.

Don't miss this one on Wednesday, Third Eye Faithful, snag yourself a copy!

MY LITTLE PONY BEGINS A BRAND NEW COMPANION SERIES WITH THE MY LITTLE PONY MICRO-SERIES THIS WEDNESDAY!
Get the THIRD EYE COMICS variant cover of MY LITTLE PONY: MICRO-SERIES TWILIGHT SPARKLE #1 this Wednesday!
So, we know we've got a lot of bronies out there, Third Eye Faithful, and you know we've gotta hook you up with some MLP awesomeness, so not only will we have plenty of the regular cover of the brand new MY LITTLE PONY TWILIGHT SPARKLE one-shot this Wednesday, but we'll also have a very special THIRD EYE COMICS variant of the book available too.

This cover features Twilight adding a special comic book show room to her library, and features a TON of the various MY LITTLE PONY variant covers that've already been done on the front. Talk about meta, right?

As for the series itself, each issue of the micro-series will be a one-shot story focusing on an individual pony.

This first one shows us Twilight Sparkle becoming enthralled in a literary masterpiece. Dismayed to hear the series never continued, Twilight goes on a quest to hunt down the reclusive author, Jade Singer. It'll take all of the studious Pony's detective skills to find the author, and twists and turns abound.

Fun for all ages, snag yourself a copy this Wednesday!

HELLBLAZER #300 -- The end of an era! HELLBLAZER ends it's 300 issue run with this landmark issue! An epic, oversized special celebrating everything that made Constantine so unique!
We've been fans of HELLBLAZER for a very long time. I remember my first exposure to the character was via the Garth Ennis / Steve Dillon stuff. I was a huge fan of PREACHER, and remember seeing those familiar Glenn Fabry covers on HELLBLAZER, and saying "what the hell, let me try it out.." from there, I was hooked.

There's been a ton of great runs on the character, ranging from Azzarello's to Ellis's to Ennis's to Delano, and more, so we're sad to see an era end with this final issue.

But, it's a great way to finish off the series, and a very cool landmark to have in your collection.

John Constantine has escaped, cheated, narrowly avoided and even reversed death on multiple occasions over the past 25 years.

Now, we're going to see if the old boy has one more second chance in him.

VITRIOL THE HUNTER #1 -- Get your copy this week & join us on Saturday 3/2 for the official launch party signing with writer BRENT ALLEN & artist BILLY MARTIN (Good Charlotte)
We're totally stoked for this killer new horror series from IDW to kick off this Wednesday, 'cause it looks incredible!

In this gothic sci-fi adventure, Billy Martin (guitarist of Good Charlotte) and Brent Allen bring a new grisly horror to life.

As Basilika City's last great hope, Vitriol stands as the only force that can stop Lord Barthus and his heinous vampire regime from overtaking the city.

The series has a very cool VAN HELSING by way of BLADE RUNNER kinda vibe running through it, and the artwork looks fantastic.

SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN CONTINUES IT'S AWESOME RUN WITH THIS WEDNESDAY'SSUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #4
We've gotta say: SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN has been an incredible read so far, with each issue getting better than the previous.
Fantastic artwork, fantastic storytelling, this is the freshest spin we've seen on Spidey in ages, and we're loving EVERY SECOND OF IT.
In this week's issue #4, we're shown that the NEW Spider-Man may end up breaking a promise that the previous Spider-Man had made.
The promise? That Massacre would NEVER kill again.
Will the Superior Spider-Man be able to live up to that?
Probably not.
Fantastic stuff, Third Eye Faithful. The energy, and just all around excitement surrounding this book is very reminiscent of the now iconic initial launch of Todd McFarlane's SPIDER-MAN twenty years ago.
Dan Slott is on fire here, and the dynamic of having one of Spidey's most iconic foes inhabiting his body and making a real effort to continue his legacy... is so freakin' interesting, it's ridiculous.
Quality stuff all around, Third Eye Faithful, get into it!
Wanna get caught up? We've got issues 1-3 in stock now to catch you up to Wednesday's #4.

HAPPY #4 BRINGS GRANT MORRISON & DARICK ROBERTSON'S TWISTED IMAGE COMICS MINI-SERIES TO A SHOCKING CONCLUSION!
A MUST-READ!
We've been loving Morrison's darkly humorous IMAGE mini-series HAPPY since it's very first issue, and we cannot wait to see how it wraps up with this Wednesday's issue #4.
In issue # 4, Christmas has arrived, and the bad men are about to open their presents. It's showdown time but can Nick Sax save the day without Happy to help him -- or will he screw this up like everything else?
What's HAPPY all about? Meet Nick Sax, he's a terrible human being. A corrupt, intoxicated ex-cop turned hit-man, adrift in a stinking twilight world of casual murder, soulless sex, eczema and betrayal.
With a hit gone wrong, a bullet in his sides, the cops and the mob on his tail, and a monstrous child killer in a Santa suit on the loose, Nick and his world will be changed forever this Christmas.
How? By a tiny blue horse named Happy.
Folks: this book is AWESOME. From the legendary GRANT MORRISON (THE INVISIBLES, THE FILTH, BATMAN AND ROBIN, BATMAN RIP and more) and DARICK ROBERTSON (TRANSMETROPOLITAN, THE BOYS), Happy is one of our favorite IMAGE releases from the last few months.
Wanna get into it? We've got issues 1-3 in stock now to catch you up to Wednesday's #4.

THE THRONE OF ATLANTIS CONCLUDES THIS WEDNESDAY IN JUSTICE LEAGUE #17
Geoff Johns has been doing an incredible job with his recent THRONE OF ATLANTIS crossover between JUSTICE LEAGUE and AQUAMAN, and we're really pumped to see how it finishes out in this Wednedsay's JUSTICE LEAGUE #17.
This epic full-length conclusion to "THRONE OF ATLANTIS" hits as AQUAMAN and the League make a sinister discovery that changes both the outcome of the war and the future of the Justice League!
What is THE GRID -- and what does it mean to expanding the Justice League?
Great art, great storytelling, both JUSTICE LEAGUE and AQUAMAN are some of the best books DC is putting out right now, and the crossover between the two is a GREAT place to jump on board both titles.

THIRD EYE FAVORITE REVIVAL CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH REVIVAL #7
We're loving the heck out of the IMAGE series REVIVAL, and the book just keeps on getting better and better with this Wednesday's REVIVAL.
What's REVIVAL all about? For one day in rural central Wisconsin, the dead came back to life. Now it's up to Officer Dana Cypress to deal with the media scrutiny, religious zealots, and government quarantine that has come with them.
In a town where the living have to learn to deal with those who are supposed to be dead, Officer Cypress must solve a brutal murder, and everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect.
Imagine the rural noir of a movie like FARGO, mixed with the supernatural horror of THE EXORCIST, and you'll get REVIVAL.
Great storytelling, solid characterization, fantastic art, this is a must-read, Third Eye Faithful. It's also the perfect book to tide you over in between issues of THE WALKING DEAD.
What's in store with this week's #7? Dana tracks down a wolf in sheep's clothing serial killer. Talk show pundit, Clyde Birch comes to town and all hell breaks loose. And, those Check boys are up to something very nasty.
Wanna get on board? We've got issues 1-6 in stock now to catch you up, or you could just snag the first trade collecting issues 1-5, and then hop on board with issues 6 & 7.

FRANK CHO'S SAVAGE WOLVERINE CONTINUES TO IMPRESS WITH THIS WEDNESDAY'S SAVAGE WOLVERINE #2
Frank Cho drawing Wolverine in the Savage Land fighting dinosaurs, and hanging out with Shanna the She-Devil?

That makes for a pretty freakin' awesome comic, if you ask us, and we're totally pumped to see how things play out in issue #2.

Seriously though: Cho's art is incredible, and if you don't believe us, just hit the preview link below, and you'll see what we mean. This is awesome comics at their finest, Third Eye Faithful.

And, then another hero crash lands on the island.. but is he friend or foe?

SIXTH GUN: SONS OF THE GUN #1 - A GREAT JUMPING ON POINT FOR CULLEN BUNN'S (DEADPOOL KILLS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE) KILLER STEAMPUNK WEIRD WEST SAGA!
We've been big fans of Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt's SIXTH GUN series for a while now, and we're pretty pumped to see them kicking out the jams on this brand new new-reader friendly limited series that explores the origins of the series and serves a great jumping on point for THE SIXTH GUN.
In SONS OF THE GUN, an UNTOLD TALE OF THE SIX is told, as we're shown more information about the Horsemen of General Hume.
What happened to the Horsemen after their master died? This issue, "Bloodthirsty" Bill Sumter finds himself alone, on the brink of death, and undergoing a frightening transformation.
The SIXTH GUN is a great read, Third Eye Faithful, as it blends the hard-hitting, down and dirty Old West storytelling of something like HBO's DEADWOOD with a very steampunky / supernatural kind of slant that makes it totally unique.
Snag yourself a copy of issue #1 this Wednesday, and give it a shot.

One of the most unlikely members of the Justice League of America will soon discover he's one of the most powerful individuals on Earth.

But, how did Vibe get his abilities? What is the cost to them? And why does the JLA want him on the team so desperately?

Folks, we're pretty intrigued to see what Geoff Johns is going to do with this once-obscure character. It should be pretty kick-ass.

AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER THE PROMISE LIBRARY EDITION COLLECTS THE ENTIRE 250+ page PROMISE Saga into ONE GORGEOUS OVERSIZED HARDCOVER
We're big fans of AVATAR here at Third Eye, and we loved last year's THE PROMISE series of graphic novels from DARK HORSE, so when we saw they'd be collecting the entire storyline into one of their oversized hardcover library editions; we knew we were in for a treat.
The Avatar's adventures continue right where the TV series left off, in this beautiful oversized hardcover of THE PROMISE, from Airbender creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.

DEADPOOL #5 -- DEADPOOL VS. ZOMBIE REAGAN.. IN SPACE!

As we near the conclusion of the Zombie Presidents vs. DEADPOOL arc, it gets real as we get: DEADPOOL VS. REAGAN... IN SPACE!

What more could you want than that?

Oh: and there's space monkeys!
Seriously, the new DEADPOOL is hilarious, and we're loving every second of it. Tony Moore (WALKING DEAD) delivers some of his best art yet on this book, while Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan kick all kinds of ass on the writing end of things.

AVENGERS #6 CONTINUES TO DELIVER THE AWESOMENESS THAT IS JONATHAN HICKMAN'S FLAGSHIP AVENGERS TITLE
AVENGERS has definitely been one of my favorites of the MARVEL NOW launch, with MANHATTAN PROJECTS writer JONATHAN HICKMAN kicking so much ass on this book each and every issue.
In this week's issue #6, the Secret Origin of the Universe itself is revealed, as the Universe becomes sentient.
We're going to see some very cool Captain Universe stuff here, as the code that was hidden in the first five issues is deciphered.
AVENGERS is bigger-than-life, over-the-top Marvel superhero madness in a way that only someone like Hickman could write it.
We're loving the book, and the team of artists on board, Adam Kubert and Jerome Opena, are doing an incredible job of bringing Hickman's mad science to life in a big way.

One is the World's Greatest Detective. The other is a black-ops killer. What happens when the two meet? We'll never know because Michael Cray, codename DEATHBLOW, is dead.
The Dark Knight faces the daunting task of finishing a job that someone else started, but for unknown reasons refused to finish.

THE SHADOW: YEAR ONE #1 DELIVERS A VERY GRITTY, VERY NOIR INSPIRED READ WITH THE ORIGINS OF THE CHARACTER REVEALED FOR THE FIRST TIME HERE!
Dynamite's been doing a great job with their SHADOW comics, but we're especially excited about this killer 8-issue limited series set to reveal the never-before-told origins of THE SHADOW.
Much is known of Kent Allard / Lamont Cranston's years spent abroad -- wherein he gained his powers and purpose, but not how he first developed his persona as the Master of Darkness.
Now, Eisner Award-winning author, Matt Wagner (MAGE, GRENDEL), will explore the dynamic events that drew Cranston back to the States, how he first met his companion and lover, Margo Lane, how he began to assemble his vast network of agents, and how he first adopted the famous black hat and cloak as his alter-ego's disguise -- all secrets that, up until now, only the Shadow knew.
This looks super promising, Third Eye Faithfu. Take a peek at it this Wednesday.

THE BEST HULK RUN IN AGES CONTINUES AS MARK WAID & LEINIL YU'SINDESTRUCTIBLE HULK #4 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY
We have been completely in love with Mark Waid and Leinil Yu's new INDESTRUCTIBLE HULK book, as it's really done an amazing job of making the Jade Giant a force to be reckoned with again.
Waid works the same magic he's worked with DAREDEVIL, as he brings a fresh, and exciting new dynamic to the HULK, balancing out the cunning intelligence of Bruce Banner with the savage strength of the Hulk, to bring us the most interesting take we've seen on the Hulk since Peter David's run.
What's the angle on this one? Picture this: HULK: AGENT OF SHIELD. Or, should we say WEAPON OF SHIELD.
That's right: SHIELD has a problem too big for them to settle? They drop the Hulk on it. And so far, it's working out pretty nicely.
In this week's issue #4, we learn that Hulk may be the strongest there is on land, but in the ocean, ATTUMA RULES.
Bruce Banner leads SHIELD in a race to the ocean floor searching for something uber-classified, and uber-dangerous.

CAPTAIN AMERICA #4 -- RICK REMENDER & JOHN ROMITA JR'S INCREDIBLE RUN OF CAPTAIN AMERICA CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY
Man, we are freakin' LOVING the current run of CAPTAIN AMERICA that Rick Remender (UNCANNY X-FORCE, FEAR AGENT, UNCANNY AVENGERS) and JOHN ROMITA JR (KICK-ASS, HIT-GIRL, THOR, AVENGERS) are delivering each month.
This series is packed with psychotronic Jack Kirby-worship awesomeness, and just when we thought things got crazier, it gets even crazier, and we LOVE IT.
In this week's issue #4, we're introduced to a new a villain... JET BLACK. And, she's waited her entire life for the chance to destroy Captain America.
How bad-ass does that sound?
What's the scoop on this series? Okay, so check this out, Captain America gets tricked into some crazy subway car that transports him to an alien world known as Dimension Z.
Upon arrival, he finds that Arnim Zola, yeah, the guy with the face in his chest, has made a clone super-soldier... and Cap, Cap's not cool with that.
So, Cap rescues the kid, and the two of them are fighting through the post-apocalyptic Planet of the Apes-esque wasteland known as Dimension Z.
And, we're loving it.
It sounds crazy, right? It is, but it works so well. Just hit the link, and check out those preview pages, and tell me this book doesn't look like a blast.

KILL SHAKESPEARE: TIDE OF BLOOD #1 RETURNS US TO THE WORLD OF KILL SHAKESPEARE
The critically acclaimed series KILL SHAKESPEARE returns with a new adventure this Wednesday!
With Richard III and Lady Macbeth defeated, Hamlet, Juliet, Othello and Romeo face an even greater danger -- Prospero, a rogue wizard who plans to destroy all of creation.
Hamlet must embark on a perilous journey to a remote island whose inhabitants have gone mad and want the Dane's blood, if they aren't beaten to the chase by one of Hamlet's allies.
We loved the first KILL SHAKESPEARE series, which took the author's greatest villains and brought them to flesh and blood as they sought to change their fates by killing Shakespeare himself, and we're totally pumped to see where the series goes now, exploring the heroes of Shakespeare further.
Wanna read the prior series? We've got the first KILL SHAKESPEARE trade paperback in stock now to get you caught up for TIDE OF BLOOD this Wednesday.

THOR: GOD OF THUNDER #5 -- THE FINALE TO THE GOD BUTCHER SAGA HAS ARRIVED! FIND OUT WHY THOR IS ONE OF THE BEST OF THE MARVEL NOW LINE-UP AND HOP ABOARD!
We gotta tell ya: we're not really the biggest THOR fans, under normal circumstances. I mean, Thor's cool, and there's been some incredible runs, but you need some real magic to keep this character super-compelling, right?
Well, folks: Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic have that magic and then some, 'cause hot damn, THOR GOD OF THUNDER is one of our top 5 favorite MARVEL NOW titles. Right up there with ALL NEW X-MEN, AVENGERS, SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN, and others, THOR is a MUST-READ.
This week's issue #5 brings the shocking conclusion to the GOD BUTCHER SAGA, as three Thors from three eras race to stop the God Butcher, and the full extent of his vicious scheme takes terrifying shape.
We've loved this arc; as the God Butcher goes from pantheon to pantheon, killing their gods, and moving onto the next ones, he finds himself meeting his match with Asgard.

BALTIMORE: THE WIDOW AND THE TANK ONE-SHOT DELIVERS INCREDIBLE GOTHIC HORROR COURTESY OF "HELLBOY" CREATOR MIKE MIGNOLA
We're huge fans of the unique blend of gothic horror and classic war story drama that Mike Mignola's BALTIMORE mini-series and one-shots bring. Great, self-contained, pulpy adventures with a very macabre tone throughout. We love 'em!

In this week's THE WIDOW AND THE TANK, we're shown a double feature about a widow with a not-quite-dead husband and a child killing vampire taking refuge from something even worse.

This is a GREAT opportunity to try BALTIMORE out for the first time, and jump on board.

Want more BALTIMORE? We've got both the graphic novels, as well as back issues on the more recent series in stock to get you up to speed!
