This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 3/13/13

BATMAN #18 -- IN THE AFTERMATH OF DEATH OF THE FAMILY, SCOTT SNYDER TOUCHES UPON THE TRAGIC LOSS OF
DAMIAN WAYNE
Man, Third Eye Faithful: DC continues to turn up the heat on the BATMAN books, as this week's BATMAN #18 looks to be one of the most crucial issues in the run yet.

In the wake of Damian Wayne's death, and Batman losing another Robin in the line of duty, we're shown a Batman who is in danger of losing his humanity.

How far will he go to serve up justice? Is this where he finally loses it, and starts turning to lethal means to put those who've tested him to rest?

Meanwhile, we see the return of cult favorite character, Harper Row, as she struggles to pull Batman back from the brink.

Could this issue mark the first appearance of what could possibly be the new Robin?

Folks, we've said it once, we'll say it again: BATMAN is one of the single best superhero comics on the stands, and Snyder continues to hit home-runs with this book.

If you're still not reading, this issue marks a PERFECT jumping on point, as we begin a brand new arc and direction for the series in the aftermath of the DEATH OF THE FAMILY.

Wanna start the run from the beginning? We can get you started with the BATMAN COURT OF OWLS hardcover, collecting 1-7, and then either catch you up with 8-17, or hook you up with vol.2 NIGHT OF THE OWLS, and then catch you up from there.

You can also jump on fresh with DEATH OF THE FAMILY, beginning with BATMAN #13, and catching up to #18 from there.

And, as always, we've got it all in stock. :)

No matter what, trust us: YOU NEED TO BE READING THIS COMIC!

HAWKEYE TP VOL.1 MY LIFE AS A WEAPON COLLECTS THE FIRST 5 issues of the red-hot cult MARVEL hit!
ONE OF THE TOP THREE COMICS ON THE STANDS TODAY!
Folks: I'm telling you right now, you have got to read this book if you haven't already. When I say it's one of the best things that modern comics has to offer -- I mean it, it's freakin' incredible.

Everything about it. Everything. The artwork, the storytelling, the whole shebang is just one big damn masterpiece of a great comic.

THIS is what we love in comics, this is what keeps us coming back, and this is what we love turning you guys onto. Something that takes the form of comics, and wraps it up in everything that makes the medium so great.

This book is special, no doubt.

What's the scoop? Matt Fraction. David Aja. They made IRON FIST cool, remember? Now, they're doing it again with the Avenging Archer, and along for the ride, we've got Young Avengers's own KATE BISHOP.

Cars. Guns. And videotape? Follow the self-made hero Hawkeye, as he fights for justice.. and good rooftop BBQs!

With ex-Young Avenger Kate Bishop by his side, he's out to get some downtime from being one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.. and finds himself acting in the role of a modern day Robin Hood.

Fraction and Aja reunite to tell the ongoing takes of the Arrow-Avenger. Barton and Bishop mean double the Hawkeye and double the trouble.

Combining clever storytelling tricks, an art style that's one part art noveau, and one part film noir, and a wicked sense of humor, HAWKEYE delivers a truly unique comic book experience.

Just trust us, Third Eye Faithful, you're going to love this comic.

Grab the trade this week for only $16.99!

MIKE MIGNOLA, THE CREATOR OF HELLBOY, DEBUTS A NEW CHARACTER THIS WEDNESDAY WITH THE PULPY AWESOMENESS OF SLEDGEHAMMER 44 #1
Man, I gotta tell ya, we love the work of MIKE MIGNOLA here at Third Eye, and while he's been wowing the heck out of us with his recent HELLBOY IN HELL series, we gotta admit: this SLEDGEHAMMER 44 thing looks too freakin' cool.

It's August 1944: a man in a suit of iron armor drops from an American warplane onto a French battlefield, where he attempts to fight his way through an army of Nazis and the massive war machine they keep protected in an armory.

This is pure pulp horror awesomeness, Third Eye Faithful, and Mignola rocks it big-time. A kick-ass iron giant destroying a bunch of Nazis? This is awesome!

AGE OF ULTRON #2 -- THE SMASH HIT NEW MARVEL EVENT CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH AGE OF ULTRON #2
Marvel is ON FIRE this year. Seriously, their MARVEL NOW line-up has completely revitalized the entire line, bringing a sense of freshness and excitement to some of the most iconic characters in comics history.

Now, they continue to turn up the heat, with their first big crossover since the MARVEL NOW began, and folks: we are loving it.

AGE OF ULTRON #1 totally started things off with a bang, and we feel that this storyline may even rival AVENGERS VS. X-MEN in terms of sheer quality, and impact on the MARVEL UNIVERSE.

In this massive 10-part maxi series, ULTRON has finally achieved his mission statement: to eradicate all human life.

Now, in the future, rag-tag gatherings of Marvel's heroes survive on the run from Ultron's all-seeing, all-knowing, and all-KILLING armies.

Tying back into the present day Marvel Universe, as heroes from the future try to delve into the past to prevent the horror of ULTRON; AGE OF ULTRON presents one of the most fascinating, and compelling looks at the MARVEL UNIVERSE we've seen yet.

Wanna get into it? We've got issue 1 in stock now to catch you up for this week's #2.

BATMAN AND ROBIN #18 *BATMAN: REQUIEM* -- The DEATH OF ROBIN's ramifications are dealt with in a major way in this week's epic BATMAN AND ROBIN #18
DC Comics shocked the heck out of us all when they killed one of the most (grudgingly) beloved Robins yet: Damian Wayne in BATMAN INCORPORATED #8.

The Death of Damian leaves a major mark, as the character was one of those rare examples of a character we hated at first, and then grew to love as time went on. That, Third Eye Faithful, is a testament to how well Grant Morrison writes.

We don't want to spoiler too much about this one, so we're going to keep details to a minimum. What I will say is this: you do not want to miss this issue.

We've been saying for quite some time now that BATMAN AND ROBIN is truly the sleeper hit of the Bat-Books, second only to BATMAN by Snyder & Capullo as one of our favorites.

Now, creators Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason are delivering you guys the PERFECT spot to jump on board with this great title, and find out how good they are what they do.

Plus, out of all the issues following up on the death of Robin, we feel this one has the biggest impact, both in terms of emotional punch and long-term effects to the DCU.

Need the other issues of BATMAN: REQUIEM? We've got BATMAN INCORPORATED #8, DETECTIVE COMICS #18 and WORLDS FINEST #10 all in stock and available now to get you up to speed with the DEATH OF ROBIN!

SCIENCE IS THE NEW ROCK'N'ROLL in NOWHERE MEN #4 THIS WEDNESDAY
NOWHERE MEN continues to tear up the sales charts, and go into new printings, as it brings in more and more fans with each and every issue.

This book is pretty much the definition of comics dream team; you've got an incredible writer in ERIC STEPHENSON, who many of you are familiar with as the current Editor-in-Chief and tastemaker of IMAGE COMICS. You've got incredible art in the team of Nate Bellegarde and Jordie Bellaire, who's illustration and colors come together to make a truly unique experience. Heck, even the design and lettering of the book are superb.

NOWHERE MEN is like a super-comic, created in a lab somewhere by a mad genius, taking some of the most promising talent in the industry right now, and putting them together to make something truly special.

Set in a world where instead of rock'n'roll changing the face of popular culture, science did, NOWHERE MEN is the tale of a society much like our own.. but instead of being obsessed with actors and musicians, the public is obsessed with the men and women who're changing the world through science.

Instead of garage bands, kids are trying to split atoms in their basements. Instead of 'zines dedicated to lo-fi, there's blogs dedicated to the shadowy experiments of rogue scientists.

Folks: NOWHERE MEN oozes cool, and if you're not reading this yet; we need to get you into it.

Focusing on the men who changed the course of popular culture and history in the '60s, and where they've ended up, NOWHERE MEN is a mix of real-life subculture exploration, mad science fiction awesomeness, and just plain good comics storytelling.

Wanna get into it? We've got issues 1-3 in stock now to catch you up to this Wednesday's #4.

MARVEL NOW: WOLVERINE BECOMES A PART OF MARVEL NOW, AS THE SERIES BEGINS AT #1, AND RELAUNCHES IN THE MARVEL NOW WITH WEDNESDAY'S WOLVERINE #1
MARVEL NOW has done an incredible job of taking characters that we'd lost a bit of interest in, and turning them around into something totally kick-ass, and it looks like they're going to be doing that with the one and only WOLVERINE this Wednesday.

The best there is at what he does relaunches his flagship title at #1, and is thrown directly into a mystery that Wolverine hasn't even begun to sniff out yet.

When Wolverine finds himself the bargaining chip in a hostage situation, he must make a decision to save a little boy that will follow him forever..literally! How can a berserker fight what he can't see? And, how far will he go to assert his humanity in the face of the UNKNOWN?

DOCTOR WHO TV writer PAUL CORNELL, and comics legend, ALAN DAVIS, unite to deliver what may be the freshest take on WOLVERINE we've seen in ages!

EARTH-2 VOL.1: THE GATHERING -- One of the best of the NEW 52 releases gets it's first graphic novel collection with this Wednesday's EARTH-2 VOL.1 The Gathering.
One of the best NEW 52 titles to launch since the line began, EARTH-2 has been a fascinating and compelling look at not just the multiverse aspect of the DCU, but also the NEW 52 incarnation of the JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA.

Who are the heroes of EARTH-2? When the Btaman, Wonder Woman and Superman of EARTH 2 meet a trio of brutal deaths in battle, it's up to a new breed of heroes to come together to combat the returning evil of APOKOLIPS... and so we meet Jay Garrick, the Flash, Alan Scott, the Green Lantern, Hawkman, and many others.

Collecting issues 1-6 of EARTH-2, this is one of the best NEW 52 titles out right now, and we highly recommend checking it out.

Featuring STARMAN writer and comics legend JAMES ROBINSON, alongside the incredibly talented art of NICOLA SCOTT, EARTH-2 is a must-read.

STAR WARS #3 -- The new STAR WARS series from DARK HORSE continues to be one of the best takes on the mythos we've read!
Brian Wood, writer of THE MASSIVE, DMZ, and much more, continues to deliver one of the most kick-ass takes on the STAR WARS Universe that we've ever read.

Taking place immediately after A NEW HOPE, with the destruction of the DEATH STAR, this series fills in the gap between EPISODE IV and EPISODE V, exploring the fates of HAN SOLO, LEIA, LUKE, and more.

In this week's issue 33, Princess Leia's secret squadron of stealth X-Wings put together to help expose a  spy within the Rebel ranks may put her at odds with Luke Skywalker at a time when they need solidarity more than ever -- especially when the spy has alerted the Empire to Han Solo's latest venture.

Who was the traitor who led the Empire to Hoth in EMPIRE STRIKES BACK? How did Solo get taken by Fett? Just how far will Leia go to strike at the Empire?

These are the kind of questions the new STAR WARS series asks, and we're loving every second of it.

Wanna get on board? We've got issues 1 & 2 in stock now to catch you up to this Wednesday's #3.

ALPHA BIG TIME #2 -- The SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN has a protege.. and he may be an even bigger jerk than Otto himself!
ALPHA showed up in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #692 as a bratty kid with superpowers hellbent on showing the world why he was the best superhero to debut.. ever.

After making a few attempts at being Spidey's sidekick, Parker decided ALPHA had some major problems, and retired him from the superhero life.

But, now, he's back, and he's working under the instruction of the brand new SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN.

He's saving damsels in distress, he's leaping tall buildings, and hey, he may have even accidentally murdered someone!

WEDNESDAY IS C-DAY! Celebrate the second annual C-DAY, as AVATAR PRESS begins a MAJOR new story arc in CROSSED BADLANDS #25 with the return of writer GARTH ENNIS!
CROSSED may be the most shocking comic on the stands, as it constantly pushes the envelope, and crosses the line when it comes to modern horror comics.

Imagine WALKING DEAD, but with the sick, twisted stuff that happens inside being amplified by tenfold.

We're going to be giving away some cool CROSSED freebies this Wednesday, as well as offering ALL of the CROSSED BADLANDS #25 covers available for sale, including the above pictured super-rad die-cut 'mask' cover ala the DEATH OF THE FAMILY issues.

With this issue marking the return of original CROSSED creator GARTH ENNIS, we know we're in store for a brutal, and unrelenting journey into the world of survival horror.

This four part tale pits a group of war-hardened soldiers on a quest to wipe out the Crossed and relcaim Britain. In 'The Fatal Englishman', these warriors stop running and take the fight to the enemy.

There's no hope. There's no cure. There is only the CROSSED.

What makes the world of CROSSED so horrifying? Unlike zombies, these are not mindless flesh-eating beasts, but instead cunning, sadistic monsters. The CROSSED virus turns those infected into a being that wants to commit acts of pure evil. The CROSSED have only one mission once they've 'crossed' over: to inflict pain and misery upon all they come across.

And, the really terrifying aspect? Anything they knew before they CROSSED over, carries with them. In other words, they still know how to drive cars, shoot guns, fly planes, whatever they could do before.. they can do now.

Imagine a zombie horde that knew how to pick locks, or put together strategies on how to get you into the open for attack.

C-Day is this Wednesday, Third Eye Faithful! Make sure you join us to get all the super-rad CROSSED covers, and cool freebies available at the event!

UNCANNY X-MEN #3 -- MAGNETO TAKES CENTER-STAGE IN THE THIRD ISSUE OF THIS KILLER NEW SERIES
Bendis has been wowing the heck out of us on both UNCANNY X-MEN and ALL NEW X-MEN, and we're totally pumped to see the third issue of UNCANNY arriving this Wednesday.

This series focuses on the adventures of CYCLOPS, who continues to take his very hard-line approach to protecting and defending the future of Mutantkind.

With a mentality and perspective more in line with Magneto's past than Charles Xavier's, Cyclops works alongside Emma Frost, Magick, and others to take his revolution on the road and gather up more mutants for the cause.

Meanwhile, Magneto has seen some pretty major changes himself... can he prove he's still the Master of Magnetism?

Incredible storytelling, incredible artwork, UNCANNY sits nicely next to ALL NEW X-MEN, as a couple of the best new MARVEL NOW titles on the stands.

THOR: GOD OF THUNDER #6 REVEALS THE ORIGIN OF THE GOD BUTCHER!
THOR: GOD OF THUNDER has been one of the best MARVEL NOW titles of the launch, without a doubt. This incredible new series delivers the best combination of killer storytelling, and jaw-dropping artwork on the stands today, and totally makes THOR interesting and accessible, even for non-THOR fans.

After five issues of the GOD BUTCHER Saga, where we saw THOR fighting a being who's sole mission was to slaughter gods from all pantheons throughout time and space, we now take a break for a special one-issue spotlight on the origins of Gorr.. and the truth behind his bloody quest to butcher the gods!

I gotta tell ya, Third Eye Faithful, outside of a select few runs, like Simonson's and Straczynski's, I've never been a massive THOR fan.. but, Jason Aaron is crafting the kind of incredible comic storytelling that is hard to resist, and THOR is currently one of my favorite MARVEL titles.

Wanna get into it? We've got issues 1-5 in stock now to catch you up to Wednesday's #6.

FROM THE CREATORS OF ADULT SWIM'S NTFS:SD:SUV COME THIS KILLER NEW SCI-FI COMEDY, ALIENS VS. PARKER #1
Set in the not so distant future, a group of SPACE-EX employees spend their days doing what they always do: getting sent all over the universe to mindlessly load and unload cargo bays.

In the hierarchy of cool space jobs, these guys are the bottom rung. Their only relief is playing Warfighter, a massive multi-player online game, against kids from back home and seeing if there's anything good to eat in the mess hall.

That is, until, they have to deliver a package marked 'classified' to a planet more dangerous than they've ever faced before. The rag-tag team of slackers, malcontents, and gamers have to put all their skills (or lack-there-of) to good use simply to stay alive.

Think ALIENS meets SHAUN OF THE DEAD, in this genuinely funny new sci-fi series from BOOM! Studios.

AVENGING SPIDER-MAN #18 pits the new SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN against THOR.. THE GOD OF THUNDER! And, hey, Electro's back?
This series continues to be an awesome companion to SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN!
Avenging Spider-Man has quickly become a must-read, since it changed directions and began the 'Superior Spider-Man meets..' title. Seriously, the writing by SCARLET SPIDER scribe CHRIS YOST is on point, and the artwork by Marco Checchetto is REALLY good.
The book is a really fun read, and we love how it compliments SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN perfectly, as we get to see Otto in his new persona encountering memorable Marvel icons for the very first time.
This week's AVENGING #18 features Superior Spidey coming face to face with THOR... and, of course, the return of the classic Spidey foe, ELECTRO.
Can the two set aside their differences.. and their egos.. to save the world?
Spoiler: no. they can't. :)
