This Week's Highlights for Wednesday 3/20/13

FIVE GHOSTS: HAUNTING OF FABIAN GRAY #1 *Meet creators FRANK BARBIERE & CHRIS MOONEYHAM at THIRD EYE ON 5/25!* -- THE MUST-READ IMAGE SERIES OF THE SUMMER!
Third Eye Faithful: I'm telling you right now, YOU NEED THIS BOOK IN YOUR LIFE. This is why we love IMAGE. These one of a kind gems that come out of nowhere that you can tell the publisher has poured some real love into.

FIVE GHOSTS is the kind of book that's going to be on top 10 lists all year long, Third Eye Faithful. It's the kind of title that's going to go through like 5 freakin' printings, and dudes are going to be searching high and low a year from now for the first printing of #1.

It's the kind of book that practically explodes with raw comic book energy in your hands -- the kind of energy you only get from that unique blend of great storytelling and gorgeous artwork. The kind of energy only comics can make.

Sharing an aesthetic tone with store favorites like HELLBOY, INCOGNITO, FATALE, and THE BLACK BEETLE, this pulpy masterpiece feels like one part TOMB RAIDER, one part COWBOY NINJA VIKING, and a liberal helping of LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN.

After a tragic encounter with an artifact known as "the Dreamstone," infamous treasure hunter Fabian Gray was possessed by five literary ghosts and now has access to their abilities.

Join us as writer Frank Barbiere and artist Chris Mooneyham deliver the most exciting debut of 2013, with their world of action, black magic, exotic locales, and literary allusion.

The archer. The detective. The wizard. The samurai. The vampire.

I mean, this is awesome. I feel like we should get a CASTLEVANIA Symphony of the Night-style side-scroller video game out of this comic.

Snag yourself a copy this Wednesday, Third Eye Faithful.

JEFF LEMIRE, writer of ANIMAL MAN, SWEET TOOTH, and the new GREEN ARROW arc, DEBUTS THE ORIGINAL HELLBLAZER IN THE NEW 52 with CONSTANTINE #1 this Wednesday
Here's another new series we're totally pumped about this week, as Third Eye favorite JEFF LEMIRE, brings the magic he's worked on books like ANIMAL MAN, SWEET TOOTH and GREEN ARROW most recently, to the world of one of our favorite DC characters: John Constantine, Hellblazer.

With Constantine being cemented as a permanent fixture in the DC NEW 52 via his stint in JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK, this new series starts with him learning something that will shake the very foundations of the NEW 52... and only he can deal with it.

Liar, cheater, manipulator.. John Constantine is all of these, and yet he uses these skills and more to protect the world from the darkest corners of the DC Universe.

A hard-drinking, chain-smoking anti-hero for the 21st Century.. one part Crowley, one part Johnny Rotten -- CONSTANTINE is awesome, and we're stoked to follow this new evolution of the character.

NOVA #2 -- ONE OF OUR FAVORITE NEW MARVEL TITLES TO DEBUT UNDER MARVEL NOW DELIVERS A KILLER SECOND ISSUE!
NOVA is one of the best damn MARVEL books we've read in a minute -- seriously: it's THAT good. I mean, I've never even been a HUGE fan of the Marvel cosmic stuff, but I LOVE the direction of both NOVA and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY now.

Jeph Loeb, writer of blockbuster hits like BATMAN THE LONG HALLOWEEN, BATMAN HUSH, SUPERMAN/BATMAN, SPIDER-MAN BLUE, and more, delivers what is shaping up to be his best work to date with NOVA. And, the artist on this book? The one and only Ed McGuinness -- and we know that Loeb and McGuinness are truly a creative team to be remembered. These guys RULE when they're together, and both are firing on all cylinders here.

The book itself has an incredible tone and feel, it's reminiscent of comics like INVINCIBLE, while also bringing in that kind of awe and magic of old school sci-fi like THE ROCKETEER and THE LAST STARFIGHTER.

Toss in the involvement of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and folks, we're hooked.

A boy, a helmet, and an intergalactic legacy.

Meet Sam Alexander. He's not just any 15-year old, he's the newest recruit to the Nova Corps: the Universe's police force.

And, what happens when you pair a raccoon, a green alien lady, and a scared teenager? An amazingly awesome origin story.

Folks: you want to know what it felt like when iconic characters first debuted? Read NOVA. Pure comic magic is unfolding here, and we're loving it.

Wanna get on board? We've got issues 1 & 2 in stock now to catch you up to current.

SAGA #11 -- THE BEST COMIC JUST GETS BETTER WITH THIS WEDNESDAY'S SAGA #11. A MUST-READ!
FIREFLY + STAR WAR + A GAME OF THRONES? = SAGA!
We are HUGE fans of the IMAGE series SAGA, and each month, it continues to prove why it's our number one favorite comic on the stands.

In this week's 11th issue, it's an intergalactic family reunion, as Hazel's parents and grandparents join forces to escape a dying world.

What's SAGA all about? Picture this: A GAME OF THRONES meets FIREFLY or STAR WARS. The best damn sci-fi / fantasy story for adults we've ever read, and THEN SOME.

Take the world-building and sharp dialogue of Joss Whedon, mix it with the scope and scale of STAR WARS, and then throw in the mature themes of A GAME OF THRONES.. and you've got SAGA.

When two soldiers from opposite sides of a never-ending galactic war fall in love, they risk everything to bring a fragile new life into a dangerous old universe. Fantasy and science fiction are wed like never before in a sexy, subversive drama for adults.

For just $9.99, you can snag the first trade paperback of SAGA, which has issues 1-6, and then we can catch you up with issues 7-10 now so you'll be good to go for Wednesday's #11.

Highly recommended, Third Eye Faithful, if you try just one new comic: make it SAGA.

GEOFF JOHNS & DAVID FINCH FOLLOW UP THE FIRST ISSUE OF THEIR BIGGEST SERIES YET WITH THIS WEEK'S JLA #2
Folks, we totally loved the debut issue of last month's JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA, and we're amped to see where writer GEOFF JOHNS and artist DAVID FINCH are going to be taking the series next.

In just one issue, this book firmly cemented itself as one of the top 5 DC NEW 52 titles on the stands, right up there with Snyder's BATMAN, Johns's own AQUAMAN and JUSTICE LEAGUE, Lemire's ANIMAL MAN, and Tomasi's BATMAN AND ROBIN (a personal favorite!).

What is the driving purpose of the JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA in comparison to the JUSTICE LEAGUE? These are the DCU's heroes that have no problem going that extra step further to make sure justice is dealt out swiftly. While the icons of the DCU in JL have  rules to play by, the JLA operates outside of those rules, and that's what we love about it.

As the roster continues to come together, the question remains: what do these heroes want in return for their membership?

Secret motives are everywhere, and the outcome will have a huge impact on this team and the rest of the NEW 52.

Plus: Martian Manhunter's back-up series begins to reveal more about J'onn's mysterious plans for this team.. and the other JUSTICE LEAGUE.

We all know Geoff Johns is a beast of a writer from his past hits like BLACKEST NIGHT, AQUAMAN, JUSTICE LEAGUE, and SINESTRO CORPS WAR, so it's no surprise that the story on here's tight -- and then you add DAVID FINCH to the mix with the artwork, and holy crap: can you say blockbuster?

Folks, if you missed issue #1, fear not, we've got plenty of copies in stock and available now to get you on board for this week's #2.

THE MASSIVE TP VOL.1 BLACK PACIFIC COLLECTS THE FIRST 6 ISSUES OF BRIAN WOOD'S (DMZ, NORTHLANDERS, DEMO) INCREDIBLE NEW SERIES!
END-OF-THE-WORLD POST-APOCALYPTIC AWESOMENESS.. PLUS: PIRATES!
Brian Wood, by far, is one of our favorite writers here at Third Eye, and we knew that his new project, THE MASSIVE, was going to be something extra-special.

In this first volume of Brian Wood's new, sprawling postapocalyptic epic, follow the crew of the KAPITAL from the flooded remnants of HONG KONG to UNALASKA, with stops in Antarctica and Mogadishu, as post-Crash ethics and economics are explored across a broken world.

A must for fans of politically-charged fiction, like Wood's own DMZ, Ellis's TRANSMETROPOLITAN, as well as just plain smart and good comics like Y THE LAST MAN and WALKING DEAD.

Plus: did we mention there's pirates? :)

STAR WARS LEGACY #1 -- THE LEGACY RETURNS WITH A NEW HOPE IN ANIA SOLO, THE GREAT-GREAT GRANDDAUGHTER OF HAN AND LEIA!
Dark Horse has been on a pretty killer streak with their STAR WARS titles lately, with the BRIAN WOOD Star Wars book going to multiple printings, and totally blowing everyone away.

So, when we saw this brand new STAR WARS LEGACY series beginning, featuring the great-grand daughter of Han Solo and Leia Organa.. well, we knew, it was going to be a must-read.

This new, ONGOING series explores the galaxy.. Solo-STYLE.

Despite her famous heritage, Ania Solo is just a girl trying to make her way in a galaxy gone bad. But it all gets worse when she comes into possession of a lightsaber and an Imperial communications droid -- and discovers she has been targeted for death.

In the aftermath of intergalactic War, the Solo clan lives on here, and we're totally pumped.

And, folks, don't sleep on this one -- if you thought the new Brian Wood STAR WARS took off fast, you can bet that this one's going to follow the same trend in a big way.

Featuring an all-star creative team of Corinna Bechko and Gabriel Hardman, this book reads and looks great.

BATMAN: THE COURT OF OWLS SAGA CONCLUDES IN WEDNESDAY'S BATMAN VOL.3 CITY OF OWLS HC
The final arc of the Court of Owls by SCOTT SNYDER and GREG CAPULLO is collectd here, and delivers a MUST-READ ending.
Folks: you know it. We know it. Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo have been delivering THE Batman story to end all BATMAN stories with their current run on the title, and this Wednesday marks the release of the third hardcover in their epic run: the CITY OF OWLS.

After a series of deadly discoveries, Bruce Wayne has learned that the Court of Owls is real -- and a deadly threat out to control Gotham City.

Now, the awesome continues with THE SEARCH Chapter 1, as the question of what happened to Fire Lord Zuko's mother is answered.

Finding a clue at last, Zuko enlists the aid of TEAM AVATAR -- and the most unlikely ally of all -- to uncover the biggest secret of his life.

SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #6 -- The Superior Spider-Man versus... Internet Trolls? So, Dan Slott's been totally kicking ass on THE SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN since issue #1, and things just keep on getting better and better with each installment. And, ya know what: we're not surprised. We knew Slott was gonna make this book a must-read, and let me tell you, Third Eye Faithful, he has done that.

In this week's issue #6, the new super-villain duo, JESTER & SCREWBALL, are trolling heroes across the internet -- and now they've set their sights on the Superior Spider-Man (who's not really good with dealing with that sort of thing).

This issue is going to rule. :)

POISON ELVES #1 DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY, DELIVERING SOME OF THE MOST IN-YOUR-FACE, GRITTY SWORD-AND-MACHINE GUN STORYTELLING YOU'VE SEEN!
A MUST FOR FANS OF SAGA, A GAME OF THRONES & MORE!
Third Eye Faithful, when I sold off most of my collection to fund the opening of Third Eye five years ago... there were a few books I refused to sell. And, they weren't the crazy high dollar collectible ones like the DEATH OF GWEN STACY or anything like that.

No, they were the ones I LOVED. The ones that I knew I'd come back to and re-read one day.

One of those books was POISON ELVES. I've got a long box filled with the entire run, and I'm still pretty happy with myself to this day for hanging onto these killer books.

For those of you not familiar with POISON ELVES, now is your chance to jump back into this incredible little series -- as a new reader-friendly relaunch of the world begins with this Wednesday's POISON ELVES #1.

What is POISON ELVES? Folks, it's rock-n-roll. It's blood, guts, and broadswords. It's sharp storytelling, clever dialogue, and characters that you just can't help but fall in love with.

Imagine A GAME OF THRONES filtered through a psychobilly chaser, with the Bauhaus and the Sisters of Mercy playing in the background.

If you dig edgy takes on modern fantasy like SAGA, then you will LOVE Poison Elves.

Set in a fantasy world where AK-47s and battle axes co-exist, where elves and cocaine dealers can be one-in-the-same, POISON ELVES focuses on Lusiphur, an elf with an attitude.

Lusiphur is an assassin, a thief, a force of nature that will wipe you clean from the map if you end up on his bad side. He's an elf with no name kinda guy, and lives by a moral code that many question.

Poison Elves is the kind of book that helped pave the road back in the day for books like SAGA, HELHEIM, and others today -- and we recommend checking out this new incarnation and giving it a shot.

BATMAN REQUIEM CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY IN RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #18, NIGHTWING #18 and CATWOMAN #18
The shocking aftermath of Damian Wayne's death continues to unfold in the pages of the BATMAN REQUIEM titles with this week's RED HOOD #18, NIGHTWING #18, and BATGIRL #18.

We're especially pumped for this week's NIGHTWING, as the dynamic that existed between Damian and Dick during their tenure as BATMAN AND ROBIN in Morrison's now-classic BATMAN AND ROBIN run that preceded the NEW 52 was one of the coolest developments of characters we've seen in a long time.

Wanna get caught up on the other tie-ins to BATMAN: REQUIEM? We've got everything in stock now, which includes: WORLD'S FINEST #10, BATGIRL #18, BATMAN #18, BATMAN INCORPORATED #8, DETECTIVE COMICS #18, BATMAN AND ROBIN #18.

IDW's doing such a great job with their GI JOE relaunch, and we're pumped to see what they have planned with their companion series to the new flagship GI JOE title in this Wednesday's GI JOE: SPECIAL MISSIONS #1.

In this new series, the killer creative team of Chuck Dixon and Paul Gulacy take the GI JOE team undercover and into action.

The Baroness tries to get back into COBRA's good graces -- and it's up to SCARLETT to assemble a team to take the villainess down.

A very gritty, and mature spin on the world of GI JOE, this one totally kicked ass!

INDESTRUCTIBLE HULK #5 -- Mark Waid continues to work pure magic as he gives us the BEST run of HULK we've read in years!
Folks, we gotta tell ya: the new HULK run that Waid's been doing as part of the MARVEL NOW has been OFF-THE-CHAIN!

Seriously, everything about this book is great -- the storytelling, the artwork, the concept behind Hulk's new mission statement.. it's all just plain GOOD comics.

In this week's issue #5, the Hulk throws down with the one and only ATTUMA. Who's Attuma? Imagine an angrier, uglier, and more relentless NAMOR... that's ATTUMA. And he's going to give the Hulk all he's got.

What's the secret of Lost Lemuria? Attuma's got a plan, and it guarantees DEATH to all air-breathers!

MAXIMUM MINIMUM WAGE ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, COLLECTING THE ENTIRETY OF ONE OF THIRD EYE STEVE'S PERSONAL FAVORITE COMICS OF ALL TIME!
THANKS IMAGE!
A must for fans of TV Shows like
LOUIE & GIRLS.
Featuring a FOREWORD by WALKING DEAD creator ROBERT KIRKMAN
Man, first Poison Elves.. now MINIMUM WAGE? Are the comic gods trying to MAKE me feel old here? Seriously though: I am so happy to see some of my own personal favorites getting their time to shine again, and I really cannot wait to share with you guys MAXIMUM MINIMUM WAGE this week.

IMAGE seems to agree with me on how awesome MINIMUM WAGE is, because they've collected an epic tome of awesome with this hardcover that collects the ENTIRE run of MINIMUM WAGE.

This series had such a huge cult following during it's run, and you're probably asking yourself: why's that?

Because each page of Rob and Sylvia's workaday saga boasted uncomfortable truths drenched in bleak humor, presaging squirmy shows like Louie and Girls.

Set in a New York so real you can smell it, MINIMUM WAGE is the story of a young comic artist struggling to pay his bills on time, and have enough money left over to buy some Godzilla figures on the side.

Meanwhile, Sylvia manages a hair salon, and finds herself dealing with the day to day crap of her job.

Folks: the book is just plain great. We're telling you: it's one of the reasons why we love comics so much, and you know that box of comics I didn't sell? All of my Minimum Wage reside there to this day. :)

In addition to the 400+ pages of story, and extras, you also get a very cool foreword written by WALKING DEAD creator ROBERT KIRKMAN, who we're sure was a huge force in getting this HUGE oversized hardcover published.

Best of all: this giant slab of awesome is only $34.99.

Click here for a preview of MAXIMUM MINIMUM WAGE that Publisher's Weekly put up. This is just an excerpt of one of the more popular chapters in the book: CONVENTIONAL BEHAVIOR.

JUSTICE LEAGUE: VIBE #2 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, DELIVERING THE SECOND ISSUE OF THIS SLEEPER HIT FROM AQUAMAN WRITER GEOFF JOHNS!
Folks, we'll be the first to admit: we didn't know if Johns could pull off a VIBE series or not, but he kicked ass with issue #1 of this book, and we cannot wait to read this week's issue #2.

Tying into the DC NEW 52 in a major way, and set to be the biggest sleeper hit in DC's line-up since Johns's other revival, AQUAMAN, VIBE looks to be bringing the multiverse back into the forefront of the DCU, and we're loving it.

See, Vibe's got some interesting news in regards to the secrets of his power... and now, with his first public adventure with the JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA, he's going to find himself in a major conflict with his team-mate.

Having an ability to use his vibrations to connect to the multiverse... could Vibe the key to another CRISIS in the DCU?

Great artwork, and great storytelling, Johns is on fire here as he brings the character to life in a major way.

The series also is a MUST for anyone who's following JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA and JUSTICE LEAGUE.

REVIVAL #8 -- ONE OF THE BEST IMAGE SERIES ON THE STANDS CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY!
Need a KICK-ASS horror comic to tide you over until the next issue of WALKING DEAD? READ REVIVAL!
REVIVAL is most definitely one of the best damn IMAGE titles coming out these days, and we're loving every freakin' second of it.

In this week's issue #8, Mayor Dillisch deals with body parts littering his highways. May Tao investigates Lester while Lester investigates May Tao.

And, Em? She gets an invite to a very unusual Church meeting.

The creepiness just gets creepier in REVIVAL this Wednesday.

What's REVIVAL all about? For one day in rural central Wisconsin, the dead came back to life. Now it's up to Officer Dana Cypress to deal with the media scrutiny, religious zealots, and government quarantine that has come with them.

In a town where the living have to learn  to deal with those who are supposed to be dead, Officer Cypress must solve a brutal murder, and everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect.

Just like WALKING DEAD puts a new spin on the horror genre, as does REVIVAL, blending a rural noir in the vein of FARGO or NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN with the supernatural horror of THE EXORCIST or CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD (OK, I went a bit obscure there...).

Wanna get on board? We've got the first trade paperback in stock now, collecting issues 1-5, and then we have plenty of issues 6 and 7 to catch you up for Wednesday's #8.

AVENGERS #8 -- The AVENGERS vs. the WORLD-BREAKER in this Wednesday's AVENGERS #8.
THE AVENGERS by Jonathan Hickman has been one of our favorite reads of the MARVEL NOW, and it just keeps on getting better with this Wednesday's AVENGERS #8.

Hickman is taking the AVENGERS and the MARVEL UNIVERSE into some very interesting, and very strange places, and we're loving EVERY SECOND OF IT.

In this week's issue #8, it's the AVENGERS vs. the WORLD BREAKER, as we discover the imminent threat to the Avengers World.

Also, the hidden connections between what's going on in NEW AVENGERS and AVENGERS begin to unfold in this issue, and folks: it is epic.

You want a bigger-than-life, non-stop, action-packed take on the AVENGERS that's smart as hell? Get into Hickman's run now!

THE MYSTERIES OF NEW AVENGERS REVEALS ITSELF IN THIS WEDNESDAY'SNEW AVENGERS #4 -- Can you say: EATER OF WORLDS?
Hickman begins to weave his two Avengers titles together this week, in the pages of NEW AVENGERS #4 and AVENGERS #8, and we're loving every second of it. I mean, it's no secret that Hickman is one of the best in the game at building a layered story that keeps on paying off even several issues after it began, and with the way he's been building his AVENGERS stuff... we're stoked.

In this week's NEW AVENGERS #4, the Illuminati have learned that Earth is the center point for the death of the Universe.

If this is true, doesn't that mean destroying it might save everything else?

Enter the world eater, GALACTUS.

Many issues of the Simpsons comic are actually better than some seasons of the show, and you can definitely that the crew at Bongo totally 'GETS IT.'

This week, they hit a landmark with issue #200 of the run, and we're pretty pumped with the extra-special, super-sized issue we're getting with #200.

This one features a bicentennial celebration of the history of Springfield, and is a must-have for any Simpsons fan.

CAPTAIN AMERICA #5 -- THE TOTALLY PSYCHOTRONIC MADNESS OF RICK REMENDER & JOHN ROMITA JR'S CAPTAIN AMERICA CONTINUES!
The odd war of DIMENSION Z continues, and folks, we are so totally hooked, it's not even funny! UNCANNY AVENGERS, DARK ANGEL SAGA and FEAR AGENT writer RICK REMENDER continues to totally deliver big time awesome with his current run of CAPTAIN AMERICA, and we're loving every second of it.

Picture this: Cap hops aboard a subway train, no big deal, right... WRONG! The train takes him straight to Dimension Z, a strange alien post-apocalyptic world where most life is destroyed, and legions of horrifying creatures roam the landscape.

Now, Cap must protect a young boy with great potential, as they seek to end Zola's terrible experiments on the indigenous creatures that end up becoming THE PATCHWORK.

Great artwork, great storytelling, this is another of our favorite MARVEL NOW titles on the stands.

Wanna get caught up? We've got issues 1-4 in stock now to get you caught up to speed.
