This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 6/19/13

AGE OF ULTRON #10 -- THE BIG FINALE ARRIVES POLYBAGGED THIS WEEK TO HIDE THE MAJOR REVELATIONS WITHIN!
Prepare for MARVEL Infinity!
This is it, Third Eye Faithful, the huge conclusion to Marvel's massive AGE OF ULTRON storyline. As you all know, AGE OF ULTRON has been the lead-in event to the upcoming MARVEL: INFINITY storyline which looks to the biggest thing to hit Marvel in ages... I mean, if you thought AVENGERS VS. X-MEN was crazy, wait until you read this one...

And, apparently, what goes down in AGE OF ULTRON #10 is so big, so over-the-top, that Marvel is shipping the book in a black polybag to keep the secrets secret.

We're staying tightlipped about what goes down, but what we can say is this: your minds will be blown!

What is AGE OF ULTRON? This 10-part maxiseries starts off one year into the future, showing us a dark reality... a Marvel Universe where most the heroes have been murdered, and the organic life-hating robot, ULTRON, is looking to dominate the remaining forces of humanity.

At first, it's a cool, straight-forward TERMINATOR WARS in the MARVEL UNIVERSE kinda story.. but then around issue 5, it gets very interesting.

How so, you ask? Well the concept of Marvel multiverses enters the equation, and we start seeing glimpses and tastes of all the various Marvel alternate worlds blending into together... and, major things happening in these worlds that may impact the regular 616 Marvel Universe.

So, where do we go from here? Well, the rumors swirling around AGE OF ULTRON #10 are many, and the only thing that has been revealed as fact is the Neil Gaiman character ANGELA (from the series SPAWN) will make her MARVEL debut here.

For Marvel to be bringing not only ANGELA, but Gaiman himself in for what's to come... we know we're in store for some MAJOR stuff, and we cannot wait to see how it plays out.

Do not miss this historic event, folks, make sure you snag yourself a copy of AGE OF ULTRON #10 this Wednesday.

Want to catch up on AGE OF ULTRON? We've got issues 1-9 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #10.

AVENGERS #14 -- Marvel INFINITY begins with it's first prelude chapter in this Wednesday's AVENGERS #14 (read AFTER Age Of Ultron #10)
The Countdown to INFINITY Begins NOW!
The PRELUDE TO INFINITY begins this Wednesday in AVENGERS #14, taking place immediately after the events of AGE OF ULTRON #10.

INFINITY writer JONATHAN HICKMAN teams up with BEDLAM scribe NICK SPENCER to tell a story so big... it requires TWO awesome writers. :)

In AVENGERS #14, all of the Origin Sites go active as the Earth begins to communicate with something much more ancient than any human civilization.... and all the while, the Terror scientists of A.I.M. prepare to unveil the S7 Program.

Marvel's keeping tight-lipped about the INFINITY crossover, and we don't blame them: the surprises that are in store are EPIC.

Just trust us, folks: this issue kicked ass, and is a fantastic lead in to the upcoming INFINITY event. Do not miss it -- it's a killer bridge between the conclusion AGE OF ULTRON and the beginning of INFINITY.

Dark Horse Comics unveils CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT #0 this Wednesday, delivering a rad new original series loaded with pulpy awesomeness!
When we first saw glimpses of CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT, we knew it was something special.

Piloting a World War II dive-bomber, Captain Midnight -- fighter pilot extraordinaire and expert inventory -- hurtles out of a freak storm in the Bermuda Triangle and into the twenty-first century, where he's in for more than one surprise as he enters the modern era.

Grab your decoder rings, Third Eye Faithful, as Dark Horse reimagines the days of radio serials, and pulp fiction with a distinctly modern edge.

Stylistically and story-wise, this is one of the coolest releases coming out of the publisher, and is a must-read for fans of their recent BLACK BEETLE series.

Zombies vs. Vampires!

MAX BROOKS totally kicked ass with his books THE ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE and WORLD WAR Z, so when we saw he'd be pairing up with THE horror comic publisher, AVATAR PRESS, we knew were in for something awesome.

In EXTINCTION PARADE #1, Brooks takes the zombie genre to a whole new level, delivering multilayered depth and meticulously researched detail that matches up to the quality of ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE and WORLD WAR Z.

In EXTINCTION PARADE, humans wage their losing fight versus the hoards of the subdead, a frightening realization sets in with the secretive Vampire race: our food is dying off.

This is the story of Vampires descent into all-out-war with the mindless hungry hordes of the zombie outbreak as humanity tries to survive them all.

Three species in mortal conflict. This is how a species dies.

We were lucky enough to get a peek at EXTINCTION PARADE, and folks, if you're a fan of comics like CROSSED, WALKING DEAD, and FERALS, then you're going to love this one.

SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #12 -- THE CLASSIC FOES OF SPIDER-MAN WREAK HAVOC ON THE SUPERIOR SPIDERMAN!
Superior Spider-Man has been one of the best Marvel launches o the new MARVEL NOW line-up, and it just keeps on getting better and better with each next issue.

The concept of having Doc Ock residing in the body of Spider-Man, and actually making an effort to BE Spider-Man, yes, a real deal superhero... is freakin' awesome.

We love the inner conflict of the once notorious villain as he strives to not just live up to the legacy of Spider-Man, but to surpass it with his own legacy.

In issue #12, part 2 of the NO ESCAPE story arc, the RAFT is complete shutdown. Which means that Spider-Man, Jonah, Glory, and Norah are trapped inside with practically ALL the villains that the Superior Spider-Man has brutalized over the past 12 issues.

And, now, the Spider-Slayer, Scorpion, Boomerang, the Vulture and more, are planning on a little payback.

INDESTRUCTIBLE HULK #9 *BLIND RAGE PT 1* - Mark Waid (IRREDEEMABLE, SUPERMAN BIRTHRIGHT, DAREDEVIL) continues his KILLER character-defining run on the HULK this Wednesday with a new arc!
We have been totally loving Mark Waid's run of HULK, as he's really bringing a very fresh, and innovative take to the Jade Giant.

Capturing the ruthless, silent efficiency of PLANET HULK with the cunning intelligence of MR.FIXIT-era Grey Hulk, Waid's HULK is a living weapon with a mission statement. Even more interesting is the characterization of Bruce Banner, and his attitude of concern for one person and one person only: himself.

We love this evolution of the Hulk, and are hooked on the series so far.

This Wednesday, Waid begins a brand new arc featuring another character he's worked wonders with, DAREDEVIL!

The secret of the friendship between Murdock and Bruce Banner is revealed, as we're taken into a story that puts HULK where he's never been before: the witness stand.

Wanna get into the series? We've got issues 1-8 in stock now to catch you up, or jump on fresh with BLIND RAGE part 1!

This is the comic that many of you hardcore X-FILES fans have been clamoring for -- an official, canon, in-continuity look at where the series left off after the final season 9.

In X-FILES SEASON 10, for years, they investigated the paranormal, pursued the "monsters of the week," and sought the truth behind extraterrestrial activity, along with the grand conspiracy surrounding it rooted deep within their own government.

But, when AGENTS MULDER and SCULLY reunite for a new, ongoing series that ushers the X-FILES into a new era of technological paranoia, multinational concerns and otherworldly threats, it'll take more than a desire "to believe" to make it out alive.

100 BULLETS RETURNS WITH THE NEW 8-ISSUE LIMITED SERIES, 100 BULLETS: BROTHER LONO, THIS WEDNESDAY!
Folks, 100 BULLETS is truly a modern classic. One of the best damn comics of the 2000s, for a period of time, 100 BULLETS defined the VERTIGO imprint from DC Comics, as well as helped with ushering in the wave of incredible crime comics that came after it's arrival.

Now, creators BRIAN AZZARELLO and EDUARDO RISSO (BATMAN NOIR, JOKER, BEFORE WATCHMEN COMEDIAN, and more) return to the world of 100 BULLETS with a new 8-issue limited series that's perfect for both long-time fans and readers brand new to the world of 100 BULLETS alike.

In BROTHER LONO, we're shown the story of the most ruthless Minuteman of all time.

When we last saw Lono in 100 BULLETS, Dizzy Cordova had shot him through the chest.. but Lono was always too tough to die.

Now, after the final events of 100 BULLETS, Lono finds himself in Mexico working on the side of the angels.

But, there's always more to a 100 BULLETS story than it seems.

LIBERATOR #1 -- BLACK MASK STUDIOS (publishers of OCCUPY COMICS & 12 REASONS TO DIE) SERVES UP A NEW KIND OF VIGILANTE COMIC!
IMAGINE IF THE PUNISHER FOUGHT FOR ANIMAL RIGHTS!

Liberator is one that caught my eye when we were putting together the orders, and I'm really glad it did. I dig the concept, I love the art, and the fact that the book supports a cause we can get behind here at Third Eye (ending the abuse of animals).

In LIBERATOR, two young heroes take up some pretty brutal methods to avenge the torture of animals. Delivering a message about animal abuse blended with a gritty protagonist in the vein of BATMAN or the Punisher.

MIKE MIGNOLA'S BALTIMORE RETURNS THIS WEDNESDAY IN THE BALTIMORE: THE INQUISITOR ONE-SHOT
We love pretty much anything Mike Mignola does, but man, we really dig the BALTIMORE stuff he does, about the WW1-era vampire killing, monster-hunting tough guy.

In this week's BALTIMORE: THE INQUISITOR, we're introduced again to the sadistic Judge Duvic, who we've seen serving God's vengeance on women and children, and now nearly has Lord Baltimore in his grasp.

However, he must first face Baltimore's last few friends in this doomed, war-torn world.

Fantastic, genuine Gothic horror that delivers a contemporary vibe mixed with the classic feel of Hammer horror films, BALTIMORE rules.

UNCANNY AVENGERS #9 -- THE APOCALYPSE TWINS TRIUMPHANT!
We've been really digging Rick Remender's UNCANNY AVENGERS, with it's throwback to classic Marvel stories and characters, while bringing a very contemporary new flair to the book at the same time -- and the high point thus far, has gotta be the current arc, THE APOCALYPSE TWINS.

Imagine if you took the best APOCALYPSE story ever, and then injected it with Kang and the Avengers, and you'd get the APOCALYPSE TWINS.

Crazy, bigger-than-life, Marvel madness, featuring two of the coolest villains of all time: En Sabah Nur and Kang... how can you not love it?

In issue #9, things get real as the Horsemen of Death shatters the Avengers... body and soul!

Wanna catch up on this killer series? We've got issues 1-8 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #9.

NEW AVENGERS #7 -- THE WAR BETWEEN WAKANDA AND ATLANTIS IS SET TO ERUPT!
EAST OF WEST scribe JONATHAN HICKMAN continues to weave an interesting addition to the AVENGERS mythos with NEW AVENGERS, focusing on the "Illuminati" of the Marvel Universe.

Tony Stark, Black Panther, Captain America, Reed Richards, Namor, Black Bolt, the Beast, and more are the movers and shakers who must do the things that no one can know are being done.

We've been digging this run especially, as it really plays to Hickman's strengths, as we've seen him do so well in series like MANHATTAN PROJECTS.

In this week's issue #7, the cold war between Atlantis and Wakanda heats up... who is the secret member of the Illuminati, and how does he play into this?

And, how does a man who cannot speak tell a lie? Let's ask Black Bolt.

THE BEST COMIC ON THE STANDS TODAY, SAGA, GETS IT'S SECOND GRAPHIC NOVEL THIS WEDNESDAY WITH SAGA VOL.2
Imagine Joss Whedon's FIREFLY mixed with A GAME OF THRONES

Folks: we saved the best for last this week.... SAGA volume 2 is hitting this Wednesday, and we KNOW you're going to be pumped to see it on the stands, like we are!

In SAGA vol.2, the smash-hit ongoing series continues! Thanks to her star-crossed parents Marko and Alana, newborn baby Hazel has already survived lethal assassins, rampaging armies, and alien monstrosities, but in the cold vastness of outer space, the little girl encounters something truly frightening: her grandparents!

Collecting issues 7-12 of SAGA, this is a must-read, must-own series of graphic novels, folks, and if you're not reading SAGA yet, we urge you to pick up volume 1 (in stock now) for just $9.99, collecting issues 1-6.

Why do we love the series so much? Well, first of all: the writing is INCREDIBLE. The world-building, and character-building that Vaughan and Staples bring to the book are top notch, and we're constantly impressed by how characters that could be seen as an afterthought end up becoming fully fleshed out, and even likable parts of the story.

The plotting is great, always keeping you surprised, and excited, and he's not afraid to leave you on a good cliffhanger.

Finally: the art... wow! Fiona Staples kills it here in the realm of artwork, as she brings a look to the book that is so unique, and so original that you can only think "This is SAGA." when you read it.

Trust us: one of the best books on the stands. If you just want plain great comics, then you need to be reading SAGA.

STAFF PICKS
STEVE: BATMAN #21 - This was a tough call, as I really dug KILLJOYS and SUPERMAN UNCHAINED too, but BATMAN #21 may be my favorite issue of the Snyder run since the height of the COURT OF OWLS.

TRISH: WALKING DEAD #111 - I think Negan is surpassing the Governor in sheer brutality!

TORMA: SUPERMAN UNCHAINED #1 - Two of comics biggest names working today on one of comics biggest icons? How could I not pick this?

MATT: BATMAN #21 - I've been loving Snyder's BATMAN all the way through, but this new ZERO YEAR arc is shaping up into something special!

SHAUN: BATMAN #21 - The perfect place to jump into the Scott Snyder BATMAN stuff... REALLY great debut.

RYAN:  TRUE LIVES OF THE FABULOUS KILLJOYS #1 - I've been waiting for this one for a while, and I wasn't disappointed! Loved it!

JOHN: BATMAN #21 - I wasn't sure how they'd be able to follow up DEATH OF THE FAMILY, but ZERO YEAR is looking to be even better.

LEXI: SUPERMAN UNCHAINED #1 - It's Jim Lee on art! That's really all you need to know! This was seriously great though, and I'm not even normally a Superman fan.
