This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 7/31/13

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #5 MARKS AUTHOR NEIL GAIMAN'S RETURN TO COMICS THIS WEDNESDAY!
We are so freakin' pumped about this issue of one of our current faves, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, it's not even funny.
Like many of you, we're HUGE Neil Gaiman fans, and have loved everything he's done from THE SANDMAN to AMERICAN GODS to 1602 and beyond.
So, when we saw he was being brought on as the official co-writer of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, we knew this was going to be...AWESOME.
Combine that with the insanely impressive stuff we saw of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY shown at Comic-Con, and you've got yourself a recipe for the Third Eye Pick of the Week.
In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #5, a new direction for the title begins ,as the once former SPAWN character ANGELA, finds herself colliding with the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Spinning out of the aftermath of AGE OF ULTRON, we're extremely intrigued to see how everything plays out with the introduction of ANGELA into the Marvel Universe, and what role she plays in shaping the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY title, and the MARVEL UNIVERSE.
Plus: IT'S NEIL FREAKIN' GAIMAN! :) C'mon! You know you gotta read this one!

BATMAN ANNUAL #2 *ZERO YEAR INTERLUDE* -- SCOTT SNYDER DELIVERS A VERY SPECIAL ZERO YEAR TIE-IN WITH THIS YEAR'S BATMAN ANNUAL.
We've been totally loving not just ZERO YEAR, but Snyder's entire run of BATMAN, since it first began with the COURT OF OWLS, and things just keep on getting better with the current storyline, ZERO YEAR.
This week, Snyder delivers a very special annual issue of BATMAN, featuring a ZERO YEAR interlude, that shows that Bruce Wayne's first year as the Dark Knight has just barely begun... and already, dangerous elements are coalescing, leading Bruce toward his final destiny.
Folks: it's Snyder. It's Batman. You know what that means: MUST.READ.
Wanna hop on board the series? We've got the first two chapters of ZERO YEAR in stock now, with BATMAN #21 *chapter 1* and BATMAN #22 *chapter 2*.

COLLIDER #1 DELIVERS ONE OF THE MOST EXCITING NEW VERTIGO TITLES OF 2013! BLOOD, GUTS & SMASHED ATOMS IN THIS PHYSICS-FUELED SCI-FI THRILLER!
Collider is downright electric, folks. I'm serious -- I went from intrigued to enthralled after reading the advance preview of this one, and now I cannot wait to share it with all you guys and gals this week.
In COLLIDER #1, it starts small. Temporary gravity failures, time reversal loops, entropy reversals. With much fanfare, a new government agency was formed with a mandate "to prevent and protect."
It's official title: the Federal Bureau of Physics.
Humans, if nothing else, adapt to the changing parameters of their existence. What was extraordinary soon became ordinary, a part of people's daily lives.
They move on and do what people have always done: survive.
But even that new status quo is now under threat.
Things are getting worse, and it falls to Special Agent Adam Hardy and his FBP team to figure out what's going on, before it's too late.
From the same publisher who's bringing us Snyder's incredible "THE WAKE", Collider explodes onto the stands this Wednesday, delivering one of the freshest new reads from VERTIGO we've seen all year.
Do not sleep on this one!

FIVE GHOSTS: HAUNTING OF FABIAN GRAY #5 WRAPS UP THE FIRST ARC OF THIS EXCITING NEW ONGOING IMAGE SERIES!
One of our favorite new books of the year, FIVE GHOSTS, wraps up it's first story arc with this Wednesday's #5, and sets the stage for the big start of the next arc in issue #6.
This series has really captivated us since it's debut, with stunning artwork, and an eerie, yet action-packed story that is completely unique amongst most of other titles on the stands right now.
What's the scoop on this series? Picture this: Fabian Gray is a totally bad-ass treasure-hunter who just so happens to get haunted by FIVE ghosts..... a Wizard... a Samurai... an Archer... a Vampire.. and a Detective.
Now, he carries these icons of legend with him where-ever he goes, and whenever the need arises: he can conjure their abilities to use as his own to get himself out of a bind.
The problem is: it's not easy being host to Five Ghosts, and it's even more difficult when you've got Spider Gods and evil Wizards out to rip them from your very soul.
This series is a mash-up of pure pulp adventure, Mike Mignola-esque HELLBOY aesthetic, 1970s horror comics, and video games like CASTLEVANIA. And, we love the hell out of it.
Wanna get into the series? We've got issues 1-4 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #5.

BRIAN WOOD & OLIVIER COIPEL'S INCREDIBLE NEW "X-MEN" ONGOING SERIES HITS ISSUE #3 THIS WEDNESDAY, SHOWCASING THE HEROINES OF THE X-MEN UNIVERSE IN ONE TITLE!
We've been totally digging the new X-MEN series from BRIAN WOOD (Star Wars, DMZ, Northlanders, and countless others) and Olivier Coipel (Thor, Siege), so we're pretty pumped to see it's third issue dropping this Wednesday.
Focusing on the women of the X-Men teams, X-MEN has been delivering a compelling, and action-packed storyline that's been quickly becoming one of our favorites of the X-Titles.
In issue #3, the X-MEN find out what Arkea is capable of, and the phrase "rampaging horde" comes to mind.
Can Arkea be defeated? Can the X-MEN take down one of their own, if that's what it takes?
Meanwhile, what's up with Sublime and Rachel? What's up with Bling and Cipher? What's up with Jubilee and Bling?
Wanna get caught up? We've got issues 1 & 2 in stock now to catch you up for this week's #3.

We're loving the direction of all the new Lantern titles, and this week's RED LANTERNS #22 delivers the second issue of Charles Soule's run on the title.
In RED LANTERNS #22, Guy Gardner has suddenly found himself at the top of the Red Lantern food chain -- but in a pack of bloodthirsty animals like these, everyone's a predator!
If he wants their respect, he's gonna need the nastiest piece of work in the Corps on his side.. but Bleez has her own ideas about what Guy Gardner's got coming to him!

INVINCIBLE VOL.18: DEATH OF EVERYONE arrives this Wednesday, delivering the next installment of WALKING DEAD writer ROBERT KIRKMAN's incredible superhero epic!
You guys know by now: we love INVINCIBLE. Seriously -- one of the best damn comics on the stands, and it just gets better and better with each new arc.
Written by WALKING DEAD creator ROBERT KIRKMAN, INVINCIBLE does for superhero comics what WALKING DEAD does for horror comics; and by that, we mean that it delivers a smart, deep, and character-driven story that's not afraid to punch you in the gut with a sudden character death or shocking plot twist.
We love the heck out of it.
This week's volume 18, collects issues issues 97-102, and showcases the especially grisly events of issue #100... where, well, A LOT of characters end up being ripped to shreds by some souped-up crazy Dinosaur guy.
Mark Grayson's entire life as a superhero, all he's learned, all he's endured, it's all been leading to this one moment. Will he become the hero he was meant to, or will he be forced to choose... a DIFFERENT path?
If you've NEVER read INVINCIBLE before, we highly recommend snagging a copy of volume 1 this week when you visit, and giving it a shot.
If you love WALKING DEAD, and even if you're not big into superhero comics, we promise: you'll love this book. If superheroes were real, and the impact of their actions were felt in the way that real events affect people... it'd be INVINCIBLE.
Get into it!

THE WAKE #3 -- SCOTT SNYDER (BATMAN: COURT OF OWLS, AMERICAN VAMPIRE) continues to deliver a chillingly awesome read with THE WAKE
You guys have heard us sing the praises of SCOTT SNYDER many times before, and we're going to just keep on doing so, 'cause let's face it: the guy can WRITE.
His current series, THE WAKE, from DC VERTIGO, has us hooked, and we cannot wait to read this week's issue #3.
Imagine the atmospheric horror of JOHN CARPENTER'S THE THING mixed with the underwater terror of every Lovecraftian tale you can think of rolled into one sleek, modern story.
In THE WAKE #3, a new species has been discovered at the bottom of the ocean, and as a result: people are dying.
Is it the missing link? Or a link to something even bigger? Marine biologist Lee Archer and her crew have to find out before things get much, much worse....
Snyder is ON POINT as he delivers a genuinely horrifying creature feature, and Sean Murphy's art has never looked better, as he brings the horror of the WAKE to life in it's murky greatness.
Wanna get into it? We've got issues 1 & 2 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #3.

DAZZLER RETURNS... AS AN AGENT OF SHIELD IN THIS WEEK'S UNCANNY X-MEN #9!
ALL NEW X-MEN writer BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS has also been killing it in on UNCANNY X-MEN, as he focuses on Cyclops's side of the X-MEN, and their more radical approach to the survival of mutant kind... and we've been LOVING IT!
Throw in some incredible CHRIS BACHALO artwork, and hot damn, you got yourself one hell of an awesome X-MEN book!
This week's UNCANNY X-MEN #9 features the return of '80s favorite DAZZLER... and, guess what: she's working with SHIELD.
Wanna get caught up on the series? We've got issues 1-8 in stock now to catch you up to this week's 39.

BATMAN INCORPORATED #13 brings GRANT MORRISON'S EPIC DECADE LONG RUN on BATMAN to an end... a monumental issue!
Grant Morrison is one of the best darn comic book writers of all time. That's not an opinion, that's a fact. The man is literally a walking, talking mythology-making machine, and for the better part of the last ten years, he's been crafting the DARK KNIGHT in a way that will have an impact on the character that hasn't been seen since Frank Miller's YEAR ONE and DARK KNIGHT RETURNS.
It's been easy to overlook the incredible run that Morrison's had towards the end, due to the strange nature of it's place in relation to the NEW 52 continuity, and the awesomeness going on in Snyder's BAT-books.. but, Morrison's BATMAN run is more than just a good run: it's modern mythology, in the same way that Neal Adams and Frank Miller had done before.
First beginning with BATMAN AND SON (available in the awesome BATMAN: THE BLACK GLOVE hardcover), and then continuing through BATMAN: RIP, Return of Bruce Wayne, and the classic BATMAN AND ROBIN with FRANK QUITELY, Morrison has shaped the Dark Knight into a very interesting kind of Batman for the 21st century.
And, now, he's bidding the character farewell with the conclusion to his run with BATMAN INC #13.
All we can tell ya is this: it's good stuff. Trust us.
Wanna get into it? We've got BATMAN INC 1-12 in stock now to catch you up, as well as all the graphic novels collecting Morrison's epic BAT-run.

NICK SPENCER, writer of BEDLAM & MORNING GLORIES, delivers his trippy sci-fi slice-of-life epic, INFINITE VACATION, in a gorgeous deluxe hardcover this Wednesday!
Imagine OFFICE SPACE meets FIGHT CLUB by way of TOTAL RECALL

Folks, we LOVED Infinite Vacation, and are totally stoked to hook you up with one of the best damn IMAGE reads we've seen in the last few years, now that it's available in graphic novel format.
A clever, somewhat humorous, and conceptually insane read, INFINITE VACATION is a unique blend of slice-of-life day-to-day humor, like THE OFFICE or OFFICE SPACE, mixed with the existential vibe of FIGHT CLUB, and the sci-fi dystopia of TOTAL RECALL.
We LOVE it.
What's it about? In the world of INFINITE VACATIONS, alternate realities are up for sale, and buying and trading your way through unlimited vacations of yourself is as commonplace as checking your email.
Of course, what happens when the lives you thought were your biggest dreams turn into your worst nightmares? And, even worse, what happens when alternate versions of you end up dead?
At long last, the brilliant and beautiful series that turned alternate realities on its ear, is collected together for the first time in a beautiful, lavish, oversized hardcover.
Snag yourself a copy this week!

INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US #7 CONTINUES TO MAKE THIS ELSEWORLDS DC SERIES A MUST-READ!
Imagine a world where Superman's murdered the Joker, and all hell has broken loose!
INJUSTICE has, by far, been the breakout surprise hit of the year for superhero comics, and it just keeps on getting better and better with each and every issue.
More than just a tie-in to the game, the world of the INJUSTICE comics is a fascinating look at a DC Universe without any rules.
It all starts early on when The Joker murders Lois Lane, and then Superman literally rips his lungs out of his chest in one swift movement.
From there... everything changes, and the DCU goes to war.
In issue #7, the tragic death of one of their own has further divided the heroes. Friendships fracture as paths are chosen. The citizens of Earth, too, are divided in their feelings on the heroes' new, proactive roles, and Billy Batson wants to hear what they have to say.
Meanwhile, a signal from Metropolis proves that someone.. or something.. has survived.
Wanna get caught up? We've got issues 1-6 in stock now to catch you up to Wednesday's #7.

WOLVERINE PAIRS UP WITH TOP CHEF CHRIS COSENTINO IN WOLVERINE: IN THE FLESH #1 THIS WEDNESDAY
So, I'm not going to lie.. my knowledge of TV Chefs pretty much starts and ends with Anthony Bourdain ('cause dude is pretty darn cool), so I'm not super familiar with this guy, but apparently, he's a Top Chef, and was on Iron Chef, and well, a bunch of other Chef stuff.
What I do know is that I love the ridiculousness of Wolverine teaming up with a celebrity chef, and cannot wait to read this one; cause dammit, it's gonna be entertaining.
Check it out this week!

Join Us This Saturday for the Early Release Launch Party of BURN THE ORPHANAGE #1 featuring a THIRD EYE COMICS exclusive cover by BRANDON GRAHAM (KING CITY, MULTIPLE WARHEADS)
We've got a VERY special event happening this Saturday, as we bring SINA GRACE (LIL DEPRESSED BOY) and DANIEL FREEDMAN (UNDYING LOVE) to Third Eye Annapolis for the launch of their new series, BURN THE ORPHANAGE.
We're huge fans of both these guys's work, and when we saw the concepts for BURN THE ORPHANAGE, we knew we had to do something special to kick things off.
What's the scoop on this one, and why are we so pumped? Well, as kids who grew up in the era of 16-bit button-masher video games, we couldn't help but be drawn to BURN THE ORPHANAGE with it's STREETS OF RAGE / FINAL FIGHT aesthetic, and plot.
Imagine the post-modern comic book hyper-violence of STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE blended with classic retro video games like DOUBLE DRAGON, and that sums up BURN THE ORPHANAGE quite well.
In BURN THE ORPHANAGE, a young orphan named Rock was left for dead, and now... he's out for revenge! With partners Lex and Bear by his side, our hero will find out who burned his home and family to the ground. Even if it means taking on every goon, punk, and topless stripper ninja in the city.
As the very first part of the BORN TO LOSE Trilogy, BURN THE ORPHANAGE captures the raw energy of everything we loved about video games back in the days of SNES and SEGA Genesis, and combines it with everything we love about comics today.
We're going to be hosting a special launch party this Saturday to release the book, and we're offering an EXCLUSIVE Third Eye comics variant for just $3.99, featuring a cover by Third Eye favorite BRANDON GRAHAM (King City, Multiple Warheads).
