This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 2/26/14

MARVEL NOW Wave 2: FANTASTIC FOUR returns with the new ongoing FANTASTIC FOUR #1 from EARTH-2 & STARMAN legend JAMES ROBINSON!
Third Eye Faithful, FANTASTIC FOUR is one of those comics that the core concept and idea is so cool, and has so much potential, but often rarely realizes it -- so, when we see a new run begin that looks promising; we really get excited here at the shop.

This new ALL NEW MARVEL NOW riff on FANTASTIC FOUR looks to be the most promising run on the characters since JONATHAN HICKMAN's now-classic run (Available in graphic novel format now), and we cannot wait to get our hands on the first issue this Wednesday.

Featuring the legendary writer, JAMES ROBINSON, who redefined superhero comics in the '90s with STARMAN, and has most recently wowed us with his work on the New 52 EARTH-2 series, and spotlighting the incredible artwork of the highly underrated LEONARD KIRK, the new FANTASTIC FOUR has potential to be one of the best runs on the characters in a while.

In FANTASTIC FOUR #1, the world's greatest comics magazine begins anew with Marvel's First Family, the FANTASTIC FOUR!

But, as the brilliant Mr. Fantastic, the compassionate Invisible Woman, the ever-loving' THING, and the hot-headed Human Torch embark on a strange mission, they aren't met with new beginnings, but an untimely end.

As the family of cosmic explorers head towards their darkest hour, who could possibly be behind their downfall?

And, how is one of their oldest enemies, the sadistic dragon known as Fing-Fang-Foom involved?

Yes, Third Eye Faithful: Fing-Fang-Freakin'-Foom! :)

How cool is this? Robinson channels the over-the-top raw energy and sense of wonder of early Kirby / Lee Fantastic Four, and gives us everything we want to see with these characters and then some.

PART-MAN, PART-MACHINE... AND ONE KILLER '80s VAN! Meet VANDROID this Wednesday in VANDROID #1
Third Eye Faithful, when we first read the advances on this new DARK HORSE series... we couldn't help but get stoked; I mean, c'mon: it's everything we love about '80s action & exploitation movies rolled into one awesome comic from the incredibly talented artist extraordinaire Tommy Lee Edwards -- what's not to love?

Seriously though, straight out of the year 1984, Vandroid is exactly what it sounds like: one man, part machine, and his van -- and a whole lotta justice.

This is super fun, Third Eye Faithful, snag a copy and give it a shot this week!

COMICS LEGEND Gail Simone launches the new TOMB RAIDER comic series this Wednesday in TOMB RAIDER #1
This may date me a bit, but I can still remember playing the very first incarnation of TOMB RAIDER as a kid; after the emphatic urgings of the guy who worked at the video game shop I'd hit after buying comics.

It's crazy to think that was like, almost 20 years ago, but, man, Tomb Raider blew my mind when it first debuted, and I was hooked growing up on all of it's subsequent sequels.

Now, the intriguing and layered world of Lara Croft is being resurrected and brought back into the comic spotlight by one of our favorite comic scribes: Gail Simone, writer of BIRDS OF PREY, BATGIRL, RED SONJA, and much more!

From the same publishers who've brought you the SERENITY and MASS EFFECT comics, the new TOMB RAIDER looks to continue Dark Horse's excellent tradition of delivering quality content from licensed properties.

In  TOMB RAIDER #1, this series launches Lara Croft on the formative adventures that will change her life forever -- and serves as the official, in-continuity, canon continuation of Lara Croft's story.

Make sure you snag a copy this Wednesday at Third Eye!

THE SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN makes a special guest appearance in the highly anticipated WOLVERINE #2 this Wednesday!
What's happened to Wolverine... and why is he more suited to running in the same circles as Superior Spidey now?
Man, how freakin' cool was that first issue of WOLVERINE?? Dude: this is the freshest, most exciting thing they've done with the character that we've seen in quite some time, and we cannot wait to see how it plays out!

Plus: RYAN STEGMAN on art? YES! Personally, Third Eye Faithful, I'm a story guy before I'm an art guy, of course, having both kicking is always good (which is the case here with the new WOLVERINE), but I have to say: Stegman is one of the few guys who I will read whatever he's on due to just how great the man's art is.

Anyhow, this week's WOLVERINE #2 shows us that the new Wolverine has something to prove.

Before he can take on Sabretooth again, he needs to build himself back up, get better and stronger than he's ever been -- but it's not as easy as he thought, and he'll soon find himself turning to other means of revenge when the normal channels don't seem to be working fast enough.

Can Wolverine fight back his demons, or is this the beginning of a Wolverine who's gone to the dark side?

No healing factor. A nasty scar. Logan will whatever it takes to take his vengeance -- and it may put him at odds at his allies at the Xavier Institute.

PLUS: Superior Spider-Man makes a special appearance in this week's issue... and, it's pretty darn interesting, to say the least.

NEW IMAGE HIT BLACK SCIENCE CONTINUES TO HOOK US WITH THIS WEEK'S BLACK SCIENCE #4
This book is so, so, so good! Each issue wraps us up even more in the complex weird science story that RICK REMENDER (FEAR AGENT, DEADLY CLASS) is weaving here.

Plus: the artwork from Matteo Scalera -- oh man, it's out of this world!

In issue #4, Grant McKay and his team of Dimensionauts are given a short reprieve when the Pillar drops them not into a hellish war zone or an alien swampland, but a.. hotel?

Just don't trust the room service; there's more to this place than meets the eye.

This series is so freakin' cool -- imagine the best aspects of old school Wally Wood EC sci-fi stories, new school Doctor Who clever plot twists, and a heavy dose of weird, Lovecraftian horror, and that sums up BLACK SCIENCE.

What's it about? Grant McKay, former member of the Anarchistic Order of Scientists, has finally done the impossible: He has deciphered Black Science and punched through the barriers of reality. But what lies beyond the veil is not epiphany, but chaos. Now Grant and his team are lost, living ghosts shipwrecked on an infinite ocean of alien worlds, barreling through the long-forgotten, ancient, and unimaginable dark realms. The only way is forward. The only question is how far are they willing to go, and how much can they endure, to get home again?

This is MUST-READ stuff, Third Eye Faithful.

Wanna get into it? We've got issues 1-3 in stock now to get you caught up to this week's #4.

LUTHER STRODE writer JUSTIN JORDAN's stellar revenge story DEAD BODY ROAD continues with this week's DEAD BODY ROAD #3
Speaking of Matteo Scalera, and his incredible artwork... his other project, DEAD BODY ROAD, drops it's third installment this Wednesday, and this book practically drips with blood.

In issue #3 of DEAD BODY ROAD, we see that Orson Gage is no good man -- but Mr. Cobb and his unique interrogation tactics are even worse.

Why is he pursuing Gage? And, just how do you remove blood from a motel carpet?

DEAD BODY ROAD is a must for fans of classic revenge stories. Charles Bronson. the Punisher. Kill Bill. This series tells the tale of a man pushed to the brink after having his wife taken from him in a senseless act of violence.

Now: they're going to die. All of them.

Man, is this a good week for IMAGE books or what? Another big new favorite of our's, DEADLY CLASS, gets it's second issue this week -- and we cannot wait to dig into it!

As many of you know, we loved last month's DEADLY CLASS #1, with it's very KILL BILL meets the BREAKFUST CLUB kind of vibe, and if you haven't yet grabbed issue #1, we highly recommend it.

In this week's issue #2, it's Marcus's first day at the Kings Dominion High School for the Deadly Arts. A locker full of death threats, a schedule full of brutality, and whispers in the hallway about his mysterious past... which is fast catching put to cut out his freshly broken heart.

The jocks are the children of Joseph Stalin's top assassin, the teachers are members of an ancient league of assassins, the classes include "Dismemberment 101," and the girl Marcus is crushing on? THE TRIAL OF JEAN GREY CONTINUES INGUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #12 THIS WEDNESDAY!
ALL NEW X-MEN and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY have been two of our favorite Marvel titles for the last year, so when we saw the two crossing paths, we knew: this will be awesome.

And, folks: it is awesome.

In The TRIAL OF JEAN GREY, young Jean Grey is being put on trial by a whole mess of different planets for the crimes that her future self went on to commit as the Dark Phoenix.

Problem is: like all of the ALL NEW X-MEN, this is a Jean who's several years from going on to do the horrible things that they want to put her on trial for -- and the Guardians and the X-Men are the only thing that are going to keep her from paying for crimes she has yet to commit.

And, in this week's Guardians, a very surprising ally from one character's past comes to help: and we think you'll be pretty stoked to see who it is.

Wanna get into it? We've got the first 3 chapters (ALL NEW X-MEN 22, GUARDIANS 11, and ALL NEW X-MEN 23) in stock now to get you up to date!

So, here's what we can say: Negan has a plan.

Seriously: things are getting CRAZY.

SCOTT SNYDER, writer of BATMAN COURT OF OWLS & AMERICAN VAMPIRE, and SEAN MURPHY return with THE WAKE #6 this Wednesday!
One of the best sci/fi horror series on the stands! A must for fans of BLACK SCIENCE!
Woo-hoo: the WAKE is back! This Wednesday marks the return of one of our favorite series in the last year, Scott Snyder & Sean Murphy's THE WAKE, and we cannot wait to sit down and dig into act 2 of this incredible horror / sci-fi masterpiece!

BATMAN: Court of Owls writer SCOTT SNYDER and the incredibly talented SEAN MURPHY have put together one hell of a comic with THE WAKE, and if you're not yet reading this uber-smart creature feature: you need to be.

When Marine Biologist Lee Archer is approached by the Department of Homeland Security for help with a new threat, she declines, but quickly realizes they won't take no for an answer.

Soon, she's plunging to the depths of the Arctic Circle to a secret, underwater oil rig where they've discovered something miraculous... and terrifying.

Combining the paranoia, and otherworldly dread of John Carpenter's THE THING with modern day contemporary sci-fi ala Brian Wood's DMZ, THE WAKE is a must-read that delivers in every area.

Spanning a total of 10 issues, the second act kicks off with this week's WAKE #6, as the story jumps two hundred years into a flooded future where history has been completely changed.

You guys are going to lose your minds when you read this one!

Wanna get into the series? We've got issues 1-5 in stock now to catch you up, or you can snag the first trade collecting 1-5 for only $9.99.

So, every month, just like with DC's BATMAN, we rave and we rant about how SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN is the one Marvel book you need to not be missing -- and folks, we're not stopping anytime soon.

This week's SUPERIOR #28, features the second chapter of GOBLIN NATION, and it is so freakin' cool. Goblins! Spiderlings! Super-Villains! Giant Robots! It can only mean one thing: ASSAULT ON SPIDER-ISLAND!

Last month, we got a very tense, very addicting confrontation between Otto and Osborn... and this month: we're getting all out war, as the Goblins and the Superior Spider-Man go head to head, and the city of New York falls down around them.

Highly recommended, Third Eye Faithful, you can either jump on fresh with last month's issue #27, and start the GOBLIN NATION arc, or you can start at the beginning, as we have all back issues (1-27) in stock now.

HAWKEYE #15 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY (yes, after #16!) and delivers more HAWKEYE goodness this week!
So, last month, there was a bit of weirdness involving HAWKEYE 16 and 15. See, HAWKEYE 16 was deliberately shipped ahead of 15 by Marvel -- due to the fact that the storyline events of 16 technically.. take place before those of 15. :)

So, if you've been wondering where the heck 15 is? Here it comes, Third Eye Faithful, and we cannot wait, as we love the heck out of this series!

The brothers Barrton double down against the bad guys as the Clown lays siege to their building. Can Hawkguy keep everyone safe against a killer nobody's even seen yet?

INVINCIBLE VOL.19 THE WAR AT HOME TRADE PAPERBACK ARRIVES, COLLECTING INVINCIBLE 103-108 THIS WEDNESDAY
WALKING DEAD writer ROBERT KIRKMAN is making pure magic with this series!
It's always a reason to celebrate when a new trade of Robert Kirkman's incredible INVINCIBLE series arrives, 'cause it truly is one of the best examples of superhero storytelling out there.

For those of you not yet reading INVINCIBLE, you are missing out -- and we highly recommend snagging the first volume this week to get into the book that does for superheroes what WALKING DEAD did for zombies.

The story begins focusing on a young man named Mark, who just so happens to be the son of the world's equivalent to SUPERMAN.

As Mark inherits his father's powers, and learns how to control them, things quickly take a darker turn -- and this book becomes the best thing done in superhero comics in years.

Just like with WALKING DEAD, INVINCIBLE uses strong characters, stellar writing, and surprising plot twists to keep you hooked all the way through.

Highly recommended!

PETER PANZERFAUST VOL.3 CRY OF THE WOLF TP, COLLECTING ISSUES 11-15, ARRIVES THIS WEEK WITH MORE "SAVING PRIVATE RYAN" meets "PETER PAN" AWESOMENESS!
From the writer of RAT QUEENS
Soon to be a BBC TV Series
We're LOVING RAT QUEENS writer KURTIS J. WIEBE'S incredible ongoing series, PETER PANZERFAUST, which takes the mythos of PETER PAN, CAPTAIN HOOK and the LOST BOYS and reinvents them against the backdrop of World War II.

This week, the third volume of the series arrives in graphic novel, which shows us after having faced the wrath of the Hook, Peter and the Lost Boys join forces with the Braves in guerrilla warfare from their secret hideout in the Sticks.

This time, Felix is the man with the memories, and as Mr. Parsons soon learns, he's not eager to revisit that life.

We love this series, and the very 10th Doctor-esque portrayal of Peter, as he throws the beatdown on Nazi soldiers, and leads his Lost Boys in war.

Wanna get into it? We've got volumes 1 & 2 in graphic novel to catch you up to this week's third volume.
