In BATGIRL #35, a new era begins as Barbara Gordon is moved out of her current surroundings and relocating to Burnside, the hipster part of Gotham City (think Williamsburg / Brooklyn in NY), and from there, we're given a very down-to-earth and grounded approach to the character of Batgirl.
We love the way that they make her feel like a contemporary twenty-something, as her relationships with her friends, her mishaps at parties, and her inability to cure a hangover help flesh out the real world side of the character.
However, while Barbara has to deal with all the real world fun that comes from being in your 20s and not quite secure in life yet -- she's also ready to drop all of that at the drop of a hat and fight crime.
The artwork on this one is so fresh, and so darn cool, it really helps make the comic pop.
Imagine the sensibility of Bryan Lee O'Malley's SCOTT PILGRIM mixed with the world of GOTHAM CITY and Batgirl, and that sums up the tone of the new series perfectly.
We can't get enough of it, and really think you should give it a shot this week at Third Eye.

By far, one of our favorite IMAGE COMICS series on the stands, EAST OF WEST is a pure treat with each and every installment, and it reads just as great if not even better in trade paperback.
In this week's volume 3, we're shown the breaking apart of hte future-scape of America as the world races towards the apocalypse.
What's EAST OF WEST all about? The CIVIL WAR never truly ended, as the Four Horsemen were born at the peak of it, and shortly after, nuclear destruction began.
Now, the country is divided into 7 warring nations, and the heroes of our story? The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, who are at war with the Chosen, a group of elites from the Seven Nations who are working to bring about the end of the world, while the Four Horsemen, strangely enough find themselves at the other end of that conflict.
This is an incredible read, picture Clint Eastwood's UNFORGIVEN by way of Stephen King's DARK TOWER with a BLADE RUNNER influence, and that sums up EAST OF WEST very well.
