This Week’s Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 2/29/12

JUSTICE LEAGUE #6 – THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED SIXTH ISSUE OF THE DC NEW 52′S FLAGSHIP TITLE ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY!
JUSTICE LEAGUE continues to dominate the charts as one of the most exciting, and compelling DC NEW 52s on the stands, and folks: with good reason, THIS BOOK RULES.
The one-two punch of Geoff Johns (BLACKEST NIGHT, AQUAMAN) and JIM LEE (BATMAN: HUSH) makes for some of the finest superhero reading you’ll get your hands on today, and each issue builds on the last in such an exciting manner, that you’re always left wanting more.
Set a few years into the past from the present day DC NEW 52, this is the foundation-building, character-defining title that sets up everything we know and love about the DC NEW 52 today. All the minor tweaks to the past that’ve taken place are explained here, and if you’re going to read ANY of the NEW 52, JUSTICE LEAGUE is a MUST.
The first arc has done a killer job of introducing the icons of the DCU, and how they assembled as the powerhouse super-team we know today… and of course, there’s a bad guy… the biggest bad guy, actually: DARKSEID!
Now, in this week’s #6, it’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for, the JUSTICE LEAGUE throw down with the Lord of Apoklips himself, DARKSEID! This is going to be a universe-defining moment, as we see the entire scale of the DCU NEW 52 unfolding for the first time, as Geoff Johns and Jim Lee tell the tale of this first ever showdown of the JLA and DARKSEID himself.
Not reading JUSTICE LEAGUE? Wanna jump on board? We’ve got issues 1-5 in stock now to catch you up to this Wednesday’s #6!

UNCANNY X-FORCE: DARK ANGEL SAGA HC VOL.2 – The DARK ANGEL SAGA reaches it’s epic conclusion in this Wednesday’s DARK ANGEL SAGA HC VOL.2.. ONE OF THE BEST X-MEN ARCS YOU’LL READ IN YEARS!
Wanna catch up? We’ve got the previous graphic novels in stock now to get you hooked up!
One of the most exciting monthly Marvel series in the last couple of years has been Rick Remender’s (SECRET AVENGERS, VENOM) UNCANNY X-FORCE. This series is INCREDIBLE, and is the definition of what a Marvel Comic should be. Big, bold, over-the-top, with strong character-driven storytelling, and in-your-face action sequences galore… UNCANNY X-FORCE is one of the most impressive titles on the stands.
And, one of it’s biggest arcs was last year’s DARK ANGEL SAGA, which told the epic tale of Arch-Angel slowly becoming Apocalypse himself, and the X-Force having to travel to the AGE OF APOCALYPSE to find a cure for their friend before he completely becomes the reincarnation of En Sabah Nur himself.
Top notch storytelling, and top notch artwork came together to deliver one of the most brilliant, and exciting Marvel books on the stands, and while the series is continuing to still excite and impress us with the current TRIAL OF FANTOMEX run, there’s still plenty of time for you guys to catch up.
This Wednesday’s UNCANNY X-FORCE: DARK ANGEL SAGA vol.2 hc collects the final half of Remender’s epic DARK ANGEL SAGA storyline. This is technically the 4th graphic novel in the UNCANNY X-FORCE run, so if you wanted to get started, we’d recommend going back and beginning with UNCANNY X-FORCE: APOCALYPSE SOLUTION, going onto UNCANNY X-FORCE: DEATHLOK NATION, and then UNCANNY X-FORCE DARK ANGEL SAGA vol.1 We’ve got all of these in stock now to get you hooked up.
Highly recommended, folks. I’d go as far as to say this is my favorite Marvel title I’m reading.

WALKING DEAD #94 – The countdown to WALKING DEAD #100 continues as one of the best comics on the stands gets better, and better. Not reading WALKING DEAD? Read below why you NEED to be!
Every month, we say the same thing: When’s the next issue of WALKING DEAD coming out!? And, every time, we’re left waiting another 30 days for our fix, and folks, it delivers EVERY SINGLE TIME.
How many comics can say they deliver month in, month out, for almost 100 issues straight? Not many, so that’s a true sign of quality, Third Eye Faithful.
Now we all know how spoiler-sensitive WALKING DEAD is, so I’m not going to say a word about the issue itself… but: I do want to say this.. if you’re not reading WALKING DEAD, you need to seriously give it a shot. Especially if you’re loving the TV show.
I know what you’re thinking, well I’m watching the show, isn’t the book the same thing? No way! The comics, at the risk of sounding like “that guy”, are infinitely better. I mean, I love the show, I think it’s a great TV show, but there’s NOTHING that matches the sheer addictive nature, and punch-in-the-gut cliffhangers of the comic. You really think, in the comic, that Rick could bite it at any moment. There’s a genuine sense of anything goes, and folks, it’s already obvious the show and the comic have taken different paths.
That being said, I think the show is a fantastic reinterpretation of WALKING DEAD for television, and shows a ton of promise. But, if you dig the show, you gotta read the books, ’cause you’ll love those even more.
So, what’s the easiest way to get started? WALKING DEAD VOL.1 is only $9.99, that’s just $10, for quite possibly the first volume of one of the best series on the stands. Do yourself a favor, snag a copy this week at Third Eye, and folks, if you take it home, read it, and don’t like it, bring it back, and I’ll reimburse you in full. That’s how much I believe in this incredible series.
It’s not just a good horror comic, or a zombie comic, it’s a GOOD comic in general. Fantastic storytelling, incredible art, top shelf stuff.

THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES MICRO-SERIES CONTINUES WITH THIS WEDNESDAYS TMNT MICRO-SERIES #3: DONTELLO ONE-SHOT
The new NINJA TURTLES stuff from IDW PUBLISHING has been off-the-wall, top-notch kick-assery from page to page, and we’re totally stoked to see the third in the micro-series one-shots hitting this Wednesday.
What’re the TMNT: Micro-Series titles? It’s a series of one-shots, with each one focusing on the sole adventures and origins of one of the Ninja Turtles. Self-contained stories detailing the full background, and motives of everyone’s favorite heroes in a half shell.
This week, the spotlight falls on Donatello, who, aside from being the most fun to play in the TMNT Arcade Game (you could destroy some Mousers with that bo staff, I’m telling you!), he’s also, in our opinion, one of the most under-rated in terms of his cool factor.. so we’re pretty stoked to see Donatello getting some props.
As for tone and feel of the new Turtles stuff? It’s incredible. IDW has done a great job of reviving the dark, gritty tone of the ’80s Turtles underground comix, and blending it with a modern day aesthetic that brings back all the memories of the Turtles you had as a kid.
Missed out on the first two Micro-Series? Fear not, we’ve got both TMNT MICRO SERIES #1 RAPHAEL and TMNT MICRO SERIES #2 MICHELANGELO in stock now to catch you up to this week’s #3.

BATMAN BEYOND UNLIMITED #1 arrives this Wednesday, kicking out the jams on the further adventures of TERRY MCGINNIS!
BATMAN BEYOND has always been a big favorite of our’s here at Third Eye, and when they brought the character back to tell further adventures of that alternate future of Gotham, well, heck, we got stoked.
And, then the big bummer happened, and the series ended, and left us saying: hey, where’s our BATMAN BEYOND? And, folks: now, we’re getting something even better… BATMAN BEYOND *AND* JUSTICE LEAGUE BEYOND!
Yup, starting this week, DC brings back the world of BATMAN BEYOND, and along with it, we’re seeing the further exploration of the DCU Beyond, with JUSTICE LEAGUE BEYOND!
Featuring the same creative team that did killer runs on BATMAN BEYOND’s earlier runs from last year, this book looks to be delivering the most kick-ass takes on the characters yet, and we are totally stoked to see them delivering more DCU BEYOND awesomeness.
Snag yourself the first issue this Wednesday, and jump on board for one of the most fun, and exciting alternate history takes on a superhero universe we’ve ever seen.

THE FIRST TRADE PAPERBACK OF JONATHAN HICKMAN’S FF ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH FF by HICKMAN TPB VOL.1!
Jonathan Hickman is, quite possibly, one of the best modern science fiction writers working in ANY medium right now. Whether it be movies, television, books, or comics, Hickman destroys all, and folks: when you put him on Marvel’s most science-fuelled super-heroes, well, you know you’re in for a treat.
And, this is why we are so totally in love with his FutureFoundation series, which picks up immediately after the incredible DEATH OF THE HUMAN TORCH story arc he did in late 2010/early 2011.
Hickman does some incredible things, including placing Doctor Doom himself on the team, and taking the Fantastic Four away from being a straight-up super-team, and pointing them more towards being a futurist-themed organization that WILL make the world a better place.. by any means necessary.
Incredible storytelling, stellar artwork, we love it.
Snag FF by Jonathan Hickman vol.1 this Wednesday, and find out why his Marvel stuff is every bit as good as his incredible creator-owned stuff like PAX ROMANA, NIGHTLY NEWS, and THE RED WING.

CLAUDIO SANCHEZ’S KEY OF Z TRADE PAPERBACK ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY GIVING US THE COHEED & CAMBRIA FRONT-MAN’S BRUTAL, UNRELENTING ZOMBIE COMIC!
We’re huge fans of the AMORY WARS comics that COHEED and CAMBRIA front-man Claudio Sanchez has been kicking out the jams with for a while now, and when we heard he was going to be venturing out, and doing something new, well, heck, we got even more stoked!
And, that’s what KEY OF Z is all about. This killer limited series, now available in trade paperback, tells the tale of New York City, down but not out, as the zombie apocalypse has destroyed much of the city, but there’s still some humanity left hanging on.
But with the survivors divided into warring factions, and the undead hiding behind every corner, only one man can walk the streets alone: Nick Ewing. His murdered wife and child, from the grave, give him the strength to continue his vendetta against the king of Yankee stadium.
A total blast, with killer artwork, and great storytelling, we highly recommend snagging yourself a copy and jumping on board this series.

ORC STAIN #7 – A BRAND NEW ARC BEGINS IN THIS THIRD EYE FAVORITE! JUMP ON WITH THIS ISSUE, AND FIND OUT WHY ORC STAIN REMAINS ONE OF OUR PERSONAL FAVORITES!
INCREDIBLE ARTWORK, A MUST-READ FOR FANS OF PROPHET, AND NONPLAYER!
We’re HUGE fans of this comic, and are totally stoked to see a brand new issue of it hitting the stands this Wednesday.
For those of you who haven’t jumped onto ORC STAIN, we highly recommend picking up issue #7, and starting with this brand new, new-reader friendly story arc.
What’s the story on ORC STAIN, and why do we love it so much? Orc Stain follows the adventures of an Orc named One-Eye, who can steal, well, anything.. and, his existence on a planet completely inhabited by Orcs.
Now, One-Eye is on the run from the Orc Tzar’s invading mob, and his companions decide to make a break for the ancient mountainside stronghold of Rekanda Tor. Only a vicious army of the enigmatic Beard’s poison throwing Shakatuu standing in their way.
It’s freakin’ killer, and we love it. The real star of the show here is James Stokoe’s incredible artwork, which delivers an immersive, surreal, and hyper-detailed experience that will totally appeal to any of you who dug Simon Roy’s art on the recent PROPHET series, or Nate Simpson’s work on NONPLAYER.
Jump on board this Wednesday with ORC STAIN #7!

Well, if you’re digging CARNAGE USA, and you haven’t yet read CARNAGE: FAMILY FEUD, then we highly recommend snagging a copy of the CARNAGE FAMILY FEUD trade paperback this Wednesday, as this is the series that CARNAGE USA creative team Zeb Wells and Clayton Crain kicked off the return of Cletus Kasidy with.
In CARNAGE: FAMILY FEUD, we learn how a corrupt industrialist is attempting to exploit the Carnage symbiotic — engineering the next generation of prosthetic limbs and outfitting his own paramilitary security force, the Iron Rangers, in suits of hybrid battle armor.

VOLTRON #3 – THE RETURN OF VOLTRON HAS US HOOKED, GET ON BOARD WITH THIS KILLER CUTTING EDGE RE-IMAGINING OF EVERYONE’S FAVORITE GIANT ROBOT!
The return of VOLTRON to comics has been pretty freakin’ rad, as the folks at Dynamite are doing a great job of breathing new life into this ’80s nostalgia icon.
With a modern, cutting edge approach to the classic sci-fi epic, this book has done a great job of bringing VOLTRON back.
The story focuses on the Man from Arus, who has come to Earth with an urgent message — Drule is coming and our planet lacks defense in every way. To turn the tide, an embattled scientist must accept the impossible and place the fate of humanity in the hands of something that doesn’t exist. And, little does e know that his fateful actions have brought the Voltron Force to their current situation almost a hundred years later.
A must-read for any VOLTRON fan, we’ve got issues 1 & 2 in stock to catch you up to this week’s VOLTRON #3.

INDIE HIT THE RED TEN ARRIVES WITH THIS WEDNESDAY’S THE RED TEN #2, FROM THE PUBLISHERS OF SCAM
MISSED #1? WE’VE GOT COPIES IN STOCK TO CATCH YOU UP

There’s been a ton of buzz surrounding recent indie hits like SCAM, RED TEN, and SACRIFICE, due to the unique way these creators have been getting these books into stores. Working outside of the traditional distribution system, and instead seeking out select comic book retailers throughout the country to get their books into the stores of, they’ve really done some cool stuff developing a new avenue for creator-owned comics.
And, this Wednesday, one of the first to really take advantage of this model, THE RED TEN, arrives, and we’re pretty stoked to get our hands on it’s second issue.
A very WATCHMEN-influenced story, which tells the tale of a super heroine who’s been murdered by one of her arch-enemies, and the murder mystery that ensues as her allies begin to search for her killer, the RED TEN is a fascinating, and compelling piece of comic book awesome that we’re hooked on.
From the same folks who brought you last month’s SCAM #1, RED TEN is a killer read, and we highly recommend snagging issues #1 and #2 this week at Third Eye.
Missed out on #1? No worries, ’cause we’ve got copies in stock to catch you up.

STAFF PICKS
STEVE: PROPHET PT.2 - I’m a HUGE fan of this series, and am totally digging the direction it’s heading. It’s really a unique read, and is unlike anything else on the stands.
TRISH: I VAMPIRE #6 - One of the most under-rated DC NEW 52s, I VAMPIRE is a KILLER horror comic with just a touch of DCU super heroics, and it’s that stylized blend that makes it so good.
TORMA:  BATMAN THE DARK KNIGHT #6 - It’s been a long time since BANE has been this cool, and now I’m hooked, can’t wait for #7!

SHAUN:  THE RAY #3 - This one’s been flying under the radar, but you know what? It’s FUN. There’s a lot of that joyful whimsy we saw in Gray and Palmiotti’s POWER GIRL a few years back. I’ve been reading a lot of heavy or artsy stuff lately, so it’s really nice to just kick back and enjoy this one!
