THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS FOR WEDNESDAY 11/11/09

PUNISHER MAX #1 - JASON AARON (WRITER OF VERTIGO'S SCALPED & WOLVERINE: WEAPON X) BRINGS US WHAT COULD BE THE BEST PUNISHER ARC SINCE GARTH ENNIS ENDED HIS MAX RUN! **THIRD EYE MUST BUY**

There are defining runs on characters that are so good that it's nearly impossible to top them. In the earlier part of this decade, Garth Ennis, critically acclaimed writer of classics like PREACHER and currently tearing it up on series like THE BOYS, was responsible for doing one of those runs on the Punisher with PUNISHER MAX. In the world of PUNISHER MAX, Frank Castle is closer to a serial murderer (albeit a righteous one, sort of like Dexter, or cinema madmen like TAXI DRIVER'S Travis Bickle) than the bazooka-toting super-vigilante he is in the Marvel 616 universe (not saying we don't like that version of the Punisher either). Ennis defined the character, giving him a rich back story that showed his nature as the Punisher was truly born in the jungles of Vietnam, long before his family was murdered. He gave us a long, reaching plot that ran through the entire series, and was carried by subplots involving strictly REAL criminals. No supervillains, no theatrics, but real life bad guys like Russian slavers, the Irish Mafia, an Enron-esque cabal of white collar criminals, and more.

When Ennis left the book, there was definitely a void. Several talented noir-influenced storytellers picked up after him, and did a respectable job, but no one ever brought things to that level of raw, gritty madness that Ennis did. And, in the back of our heads, we kept thinking "you know, Scalped is probably the best Vertigo book we're following, and Jason Aaron is able to tell a grimy, shades of gray story so well... he'd be perfect." And, then, it was announced that he'd be relaunching PUNISHER MAX with Preacher artist Steve Dillon.

Dude. We are so stoked for this new run it's not even funny. First off, the world of PUNISHER MAX is completely self-contained. You need no prior knowledge of the character, or his stories, to jump into this. All you need to know is the Punisher is a fractured, remorseless human being that murders those who he sees as bad people. No wrongs, no rights, just one man on a mission to make the world sane. Jason Aaron and Steve Dillon look to be the perfect match to make this series sing again, and we really can't wait to see their approach in this new ongoing series. The other landmark to this? It introduces the character of Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin, to the world of Punisher MAX. This is a big deal, because Kingpin is really only the second or third 616 Marvel character that's been given the MAX treatment (and Ennis's take on Nick Fury was AWESOME). It looks like this new series starts off with Fisk working as a bodyguard for a mob boss, but Fisk is a big man with big ambitions, and he has plans to manipulate The Punisher into achieving those goals. This is going to be the biggest Punisher MAX series since Ennis ended his run, and we HIGHLY recommend it.

Fans of gritty, crime noir storytelling like CRIMINAL, INCOGNITO, SCALPED, 100 BULLETS, and of course, Ennis's run on Punisher MAX are advised to give this one a look. It's going to be violent. It's going to be brutal. And, with the creative team they've got on board.. it's going to be one hell of a well-written, well-illustrated story.

SUPERGOD #1 TAKES THE IDEA OF WATCHMEN, IRREDEEMABLE, AND THE BOYS TO IT'S MOST VIOLENT, AND DARKEST EXTREME! FROM AVATAR PRESS, PUBLISHERS OF CROSSED, AND COMICS LEGEND WARREN ELLIS **THIRD EYE MUST BUY**

The one thing that it's obvious we all enjoy here at Third Eye is the deconstruction of the superhero arch-type. Don't ask me why, but ever since I was just a kid and stumbling across books like Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, and the often-overlooked Brat Pack, I've had a real soft spot for this stuff. When I first heard mention of SUPERGOD, I was immediately intrigued. Warren Ellis is one of the best writers working in comics today, and when it comes to adding a dark edge to the world of capes, Ellis has already proven he can do that (from his work on RUINS, PLANETARY, the AUTHORITY, BLACK SUMMER, and NO HERO).

Imagine stories like WATCHMEN, IRREDEEMABLE, and even the humorous BOYS, taken to their darkest extreme. Imagine these stories infused with a real-world science fiction edge, and charged with the darkest take on super-humans gone mad that you can think of. This is the world of SUPERGOD. In Ellis's words, the Man in the Sky is not coming to save you.

This is the story of how superhumans who were created to save the world, destroyed the world, not wanting to take on the responsibilites thrust upon them by science. Take every superhero comic ever published, shove them in a nuclear powered blender, soak it in bad vodka, and set the whole damn thing on fire... and you'll get the world of SUPERGOD.

This five issue limited series is a must read, and we can't recommend it enough, folks.

IT'S A DOUBLE DOSE OF LANTERN RINGS THIS WEDNESDAY AT THIRD EYE! ORANGE & INDIGO RINGS AVAILABLE! SUPPLIES ARE LIMITED, SO MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR'S!
PLUS, TONS OF BLACKEST NIGHT AWESOMENESS: BOOSTER GOLD #26 BRINGS THE BLUE BEETLE (TED KORD) BACK FROM THE DEAD! REBELS #10BLACKEST NIGHT IN SPACE! AND, GREEN LANTERN CORPS #42ROCKS OA TO IT'S CORE!

It's a big week for Blackest Night as three big tie-in issues hit, two of which carry the next in the series of Lantern Rings that Third Eye is bringing you. All three look like rockin' reads, but lets give you guys the skinny starting with Booster Gold #26.

Booster Gold #26 comes with the Orange Lantern Ring (aka Avarice), and this issue is one not to be missed. Anyone who's a DC fan has a place in their heart for the goofy yet endearing friendship shared between Booster Gold and Ted Kord/Blue Beetle. These guys were literally the Patton Oswalt and Brian Posehn of comics. Two goofballs who kept each other in check. And, then during the events leading into Infinite Crisis, Blue Beetle (aka Ted Kord) had his brains blown out. And, ever since, Booster's been a wreck. Now, nevermind the fact that Booster Gold has been a pretty solid title since it's launch. It's suffered a couple of slow spots, but recently, it's been a great read, like when it first began, the real draw here though, is the return of Blue Beetle as a Black Lantern. This obscure character rates high in the Third Eye DC history book, and it's going to be interesting to see how this one plays out.

R.E.B.E.L.S #10 comes with the Indigo Lantern Ring (aka Compassion), and this is one that I was a little bit skeptical of. To be honest, I hadn't read much of the REBELS series, just a couple issues here and there. Well, when they recently did the super cool annual with Starro.. I had to read it. I LOVE STARRO! And, dude, the book is actually pretty damn good. One of those underrated, hidden gems that doesn't get the props it deserves. Very cool DCU space adventure stuff with a modern twist. I'm not exactly sure what they've got in store for the REBELS tie-in, but, so far, nothing with the Blackest Night banner has let me down. Plus, it's got Starro. Who doesn't love Starro?

Green Lantern Corps #42 doesn't come with a ring, but holy cow, have you guys been following what's been going down with the Blackest Night in this one? From the return of Jade as a Black Lantern, to last issue's action-packed Lantern Corps badassery. The book is just plain good, and, I'll tell you.. the artist, Patrick Gleason, I think he's going to be the next breakout guy at DC. His art is creepy as hell, and fits perfectly with the Blackest Night. Very organic storytelling all around, and I can't wait to see where things go next in this.

And, if you missed your Yellow Ring, we still have a limited amount left. Just snag a copy of Doom Patrol #4 from last week, and it comes with a free yellow ring!

BATMAN & ROBIN #6 - THE RED HOOD REVEALED... AND THE DEBUT OF THE FLAMINGO? MORRISON'S AMAZING BATMAN AND ROBIN CONTINUES!

It's no secret that Batman and Robin is one of DC's best titles coming out. And, it's no secret that BATMAN AND ROBIN is the best Batman run in years. Morrison has found his niche with this one, giving us a fresh, accessible approach to the world of Batman with Dick Grayson under the cowl and Damian in the role of Robin. Seriously, folks, we can't recommend this series enough. The artwork and story mesh so well together, and the book has all the right moves to make it one of those character-defining runs that I mentioned earlier.

One of the things I've really enjoyed most about the new Batman series is how Morrison is building a whole new Gottham City by introducing compelling new characters, and more importantly, new villains that don't suck. We all know that normally, all new characters do not stick that well. For whatever reason, it's hard to really make them interesting. Morrison has completely flipepd that philosophy on it's head by introducing many new rogues to Batman's rogues gallery. And, each one has had the same level of creepy cool that you would expect from any of the classics.

One of the reason this succeeds so well is because a new Batman demands new villains. And, we just thank the comic gods, that Morrison's the man writing this one, because he really is doing a damn good job of blazing new trails in the world of Batman.

I think one of the other reasons why I enjoy Batman and Robin so much is because it's so unlike any other title out there. I don't know how to explain it, but it's got this post-modern 21st century feel that almost feels like Morrison is taking comic storytelling to new places. It's not like there's anything that screams out at you as groundbreaking, but when you read the book... it flows in a way that a comic book should, but not in a way you've seen before.

Anyways, I'm done gushing over this series. The newest issue ships Wednesday, and concludes the Revenge of the Red Hood arc. We get to meet the Flamingo, and big reveals aplenty are guaranteed.

Want to catch up on Batman and Robin? You know Third Eye's got your back, as we've got issues 1,2,3,4, and 5 all in stock. Feel free to scoop em up on your next visit!

BATMAN/DOC SAVAGE ONE-SHOT - "JOKER" & "100 BULLETS" writer BRIAN AZZARELO AND DC COMICS CRAFT A BRAND NEW PULP-CENTRIC UNIVERSE IN THIS HIGHLY ANTICIPATED ONE-SHOT!

The Pulps are where it all started, ladies and gentlemen. If it wasn't for those meaty slabs of killer serial fiction, we wouldn't be where we are today. I mean, the pulps are where the great serial action hero really came into true form. And, one of the most influential, and famous pulp characters was Doc Savage.

Now, DC is in the process of rebuilding a whole new world in the DC Universe. It's a world set in the '40s, and there's no superhumans... except for the pulp heroes. The first book to set this up is the Doc Savage/Batman one-shot, and between the stellar creative team of Brian Azzarello (the main man behind last year's hit JOKER graphic novel) and Phil Notos (who's artwork is some of the most gorgeous stuff we've seen), and just the fact that pulp heroes are plain cool... we're pumped.

Now, what's got us really intrigued is to see how Azzarello puts his twist on things. The man is a master of that pulpy crime noir storytelling, and it seems like these characters are a perfect fit to his sensibilities. We can already tell from the preview pages that Notos has got it, so now it's just a matter of seeing what dark edge Azzarello plans to bring to this one.

Either way, we feel this one's gonna be a good pick for the week. Clickhere to check out a preview of BATMAN/DOC SAVAGE SPECIAL!

CHRONICLES OF WORMWOOD #2 DELIVERS MORE OF GARTH ENNIS'S DEPRAVED NEW SERIES!

Garth Ennis has really proven that he can shock, gross-out, and awe us all at the same time. And, with CROSSED, nearing it's end.. it's time for something new to fill that void of depravity we know is coming, right? If you haven't already picked up the first issue of CHRONICLES OF WORMWOOD: THE LAST BATTLE, then we highly recommend snagging it next trip through to see what all the fuss is about.

Basically, Danny Wormwood is the Anti-Christ.. but instead of bringing about armaggedon, he thinks it's better to leave humanity to it's own devices. Oh, and did we mention he's built a very successful cable TV empire, and his best friend is the modern day reincarnation of Jesus Christ?

Yeah, that's Danny Wormwood.

Now, herein lies the problem... Danny's dad, the Devil, isn't in charge of Hell anymore... and, instead, Hell is under the reign of the insanely (and now deceased) depraved Pope Jacko. And, Jacko has plans to unleash the legions of hell on earth.

All we can say is that this series is only one issue in, and it's already the most bizarre, over-the-top, and intense horror comic we've ever seen. And, of course, it carries that razor-sharp trademark Ennis wit and humor, which is always a bonus.

Check it out this Wednesday, and like I said, if you've yet to grab #1.. give it a go!

A DOUBLE DOSE OF DEADPOOL THIS WEDNESDAY: DEADPOOL #17 - DEADPOOL JOINS THE X-MEN! & AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #611 *DEADPOOL & SPIDEY, PRELUDE TO GAUNTLET!*

Two big Deadpool issues hit this Wednesday, with the first being an awesome one-shot story in the pages of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #611, written by in our opinion, the best Deadpool scribe, JOE KELLY. Joe Kelly penned the classic late '90s Deadpool series which defined the character's cult status. And, there's also the fact that this is the direct prelude to a little something known as the GAUNTLET, which is going to be the biggest Spider-man story in AGES. We can guarantee that this issue of Spidey is going to be a must-read, cause not only is Joe Kelly great when writing Spidey, but he's perfect when it comes to penning the Merc With A Mouth! And, dude, the Gauntlet is going to rock so hard!

And, then next up, we have one of the biggest issues to hit for the regular DEADPOOL ongoing series, with Deadpool #17, featuring the Deadpool's first day as an X-Man. Yup, ol' Wade Wilson is joining the X-Men. And, the cover alone has us sold.

So, for those of you who like your Deadpool, you're in for a real treat this Wednesday!

THE ANCHOR #2 FOLLOWS UP AN AWESOME FIRST ISSUE, GIVING US KILLER HELLBOY MEETS GODZILLA MONSTER FIGHTING ACTION!

The first issue of the Anchor really impressed me. What looked like it may be riffing a little too much on Hellboy, actually turned out to be a fresh, and exciting new book. The Anchor is God's Leg Breaker. A centuries old monstrous being that exists somewhere between heaven and hell. He's the gatekeeper that keeps the hordes of hell from invading Earth, and he's pretty serious about his job.

But, what makes the Anchor cool... is it reads like a giant monster kaiju-fighting action hero book with just hints of characters like Hellboy and the Goon. The book definitely has it's own flavor, and feel, and the first issue was the perfect blend of action-packed, monster-bashing fun with enough meat on it's bone to make it a compelling read.

In other words, we dig it. The first issue is already sold out at our distributor, but we do have a handful of copies left in stock, so if you want to check it out, grab one this Wednesday, so you can get caught up to issue #2. If you're looking for some pulpy, bigger-than-life monster-fighting fun, then the Anchor definitely fits the bill.

LOCKE & KEY CROWN OF SHADOWS #1 KICKS OFF THE THIRD ACT IN JOE HILL'S (SON OF STEPHEN KING) CREEPY AND AMAZING GHOST STORY EPIC!

If you're not reading LOCKE & KEY yet, then you have got to jump on this series. Dude, it's one of the things I've looked forward to most for the last couple of years. The fact that it's written by Stephen King's son, Joe Hill, may be a draw, but, it's just plain good comic book storytelling. Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez have managed to craft one of the most compelling, and interesting comic stories in recent memory. And, I'm going to go on record as saying that this is one of the best horror comics I've seen in years. AND IT'S A GHOST STORY! How often do you see a good ghost story? A genuinely terrifying ghost story? Seriously though, folks, this one has real WALKING DEAD potential in terms of paving new ground in comics, and building a compelling story.

With 60 issues planned, Joe Hill is just getting warmed up, and we're so stoked to see where things are going next in the new CROWN OF SHADOWS limited series, which is the third "season" of LOCKE & KEY, I guess you could say.

What is Locke & Key? Locke & Key is a Lovecraftian ghost story that features a family trying to rebuild their lives after the grisly murder of their father. Of course, returning to their home, where the evil spirit who started everything dwells isn't exactly the best of ideas. There's two volumes out so far in graphic novel, collecting the series, and we have to tell you guys, it's just too good not to read. The character development, the atmosphere, all around... Locke & Key is top notch stuff.

DARK X-MEN #1 KICKS OFF THIS WEDNESDAY - THE PERFECT COMPANION TO NORMAN OSBORN'S DARK AVENGERS!

In the wake of Utopia, Norman Osborn is not letting go of what remains of his Dark X-Men. Much like the Dark Avengers, the Dark X-Men are the public face of the X-Men to the world, and t hey are all under Osborn's control. From the insidious Dark Beast to the deceptive Mystique, the whole team is probably running their own agenda as well.

What's really interesting? Remember Nate Grey..aka X-Man.. well, he's got a big role to play in this whole thing. Wonder where they dug him up from!

Either way, we really dug Utopia, and it should be exciting to see where things go with this new DARK X-MEN team.

STOKED FOR MODERN WARFARE 2? WELL, GUESS WHAT.. IT'S GETTING THE COMIC BOOK TREATMENT IN MODERN WARFARE 2 GHOST #1

Who else is stoked to snag a copy of Modern Warfare this week? Unfortunately, it'll probably be a bit before I get a chance to dive into this game. The Third Eye leaves little time for getting hooked into video games like I used to, but still.. I am so excited to check this one out.

And, of course, I'm pumped to see the comic. It used to be that video game comics SUCKED. For the longest time, publishers could not get that right. Wildstorm proved last year with books like their World of Warcraft series, and GEARS OF WAR, that this is no longer the case. Video game comics can, and do work nowadays, and c'mon.. what lends itself better to comic books than Modern Warfare!?

THE GHOUL #1 FROM STEVE NILES (30 DAYS OF NIGHT) & BERNIE WRIGHTSON DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY! HORROR COMIC AWESOMENESS!

Here's one I'm pretty excited about.. THE GHOUL! Most of you guys know that I'm big on my old school horror comics, and whenever a modern master like Niles teams up with a legend like Wrightson.. it's been great stuff. They knocked us out big on City of Others, and then did it again with Dead She Said, it should be very cool to see how they pull things off with the Ghoul.

See, the Ghoul is a hulking, monolithic beast that just happens to be the world's most renowned private investigator that specializes in the weird, the macabre, and the occult. And of course, our human detective, stumbles into this weird world, and only the Ghoul can help him.

Now, the plot doesn't exactly sound like anything too out of this world, but, trust us, we know the unique spin that Niles puts on classic horror tales, and the addition of Wrightson's gorgeous, horrific pencils.. make this one a must read for those of you who dig on horror comics. There's also the fact that the whole premise has this great kind of old school horror feel to it that makes it a can't miss.

GREAT WEEK FOR TRADE PAPERBACKS & GRAPHIC NOVELS, CHECK OUT THESE HIGHLIGHTS!

Luna Park from Vertigo is an original graphic novel that looks to bring all the suspense of a flick like David Cronenberg's Eastern Promises to the world of sequential art. This crime noir tale features a former Russian soldier named Alik Strelnikov who traded his existence as a brutal soldier for the promise of America only to become an enforcer for a ruthless Brooklyn mob. This one has us excited, and with it's chilling story set in the shadows of Coney Island, it's sure to be an interesting read, and trip through the seedier sides of The Big Apple.

Green Lantern: Agent Orange HC - Is it just me or has anyone else noticed how affordable DC's hardcovers have been getting? $19.99 is a great deal for a hardcover these days, and it's pretty welcome to see the lowering of prices on these. Anyways, back to the point... This is part of the prelude to Blackest Night, and, lets be honest, AGENT ORANGE ruled! A great lead up to what's been the biggest story of the year. The story of the Orange Lantern revealed in this mini-epic.

Wolverine Weapon X: The Adamantium Men - Jason Aaron (SCALPED) brings Wolverine back to his roots in the first story arc of this new ongoing series. Self-contained, and not tied into a thousand other books, this new series is very reminiscent of how the Wolverine title was in the early days. It's just Logan, and the bloody, over-the-top adventures he finds himself involved in. The series has a kind of Punisher MAX feel in the way that it doesn't really interact too strongly with the continuity of the Marvel universe, but instead focues on what's important: telling a good story. If you're a fan of the old school Wolverine stuff where he's cutting up ninjas left and right, doing black ops work in the Cold War, or just plain going tooth and claw with Sabretooth, check this series out.

Superman Red Son Deluxe HC - This gorgeous new edition of Mark Millar's (OLD MAN LOGAN, WANTED, ULTIMATES, KICK-ASS) awesome Elseworlds SUPERMAN RED SON story gives one of the coolest Superman stories of the last twenty years the presentation it deserves. Imagine Superman's shuttle landing in Communist Russia instead of America, and the Man of Steel being raised by the Soviet Union... Batman's an anti-communist terrorist who's parents died in a bread line... Lex Luthor's the president of the U.S.. and the Green Lantern Corps functions as the US Air Force... yes. it's awesome.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE FOR WEDNESDAY 8/5/09

CAPTAIN AMERICA REBORN #2 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY AS THE MYSTERY OF STEVE ROGER'S RETURN IS FURTHER REVEALED!

Ed Brubaker and Bryan Hitch's first issue of Captain America: Reborn was a very good, yet dense start to what is one of the most eagerly anticipated returns in the history of comics. It wasn't your traditional "event" book first issue, where we're treated to splash page after splash page of larger than life "holy crap" moments, but instead a very character-driven, very well-plotted opening to this series. And, that's Brubaker's style.. he builds, and builds, so when you get the big payoff.. it's worth it, all the way. All in all, we loved the first issue of Reborn, and we're eagerly awaiting the second as it looks to be delving deeper into what Steve Rogers is thinking and how he is becoming aware of being "stuck" in time. And, of course, we'll be exploring the effects that this is going to have on the Marvel Universe as a whole.

Trust us, folks, Reborn is definitely the series to be watching as far as what the future of the Marvel Universe holds. We feel that Cap's return will be playing a HUGE role in the demise of Norman Osborn (if that's where things are going). Plus, it's being written by one of the best in the biz, with Ed Brubaker, and being illustrated by one of our all-time favorites, Bryan Hitch.

WALKING DEAD VOLUME 10 WHAT WE BECOME TRADE PAPERBACK ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY!

It's always a cause for celebration here at Third Eye when a new Walking Dead trade hits the stands. I mean, c'mon... it's one of the best series going right now, and we know that a lot of you eagerly await the next one of these to hit. So, rest assured, Third Eye Faithful, we've got a big stack of these slabs of comic goodness coming in this Wednesday.
And, really, what more needs to be said? It's Walking Dead. If you're not already reading it, then you need to. Try the first trade for $10, and if you don't like it, we'll give you your $10 back! That's how much faith we have in this series. And, for those of you already following it.. well, we know we'll see you guys this Wednesday to snag up the latest installment of your favorite post-apocalyptic funnybook.

DEADPOOL: MERC WITH A MOUTH #2 - DEADPOOL VS... ZOMBIE CAVEMEN!?

Okay, first off.. the cover to this new issue of Deadpool is one of the raddest things I've ever seen. Although, the cover to Merc With A Mouth #4 with the Scarface send-up is pretty damn good too. But seriously, the JAWS send-up is priceless.
Now, onto the book.. well, it's Deadpool, and we all know how much everyone loves Deadpool. But, wait, it's not just Deadpool, it's Deadpool and his Zombified Head from the Marvel Zombieverse. Yup, Merc With A Mouth, is the new ongoing series that gives us the ultimate Marvel Universe buddy comedy... but, with lots of impalements, bullet in the brains, and more. So, yeah, it's totally killer.

And, with Deadpool cutting his way through the Savage Land to take out some of the zombified cavemen his head infected... well... lets just say we're in for some good old fashioned Merry Marvel Madness. But wait.. there's more... he's gotta deal with Hydra commando death squads too!

Either way, this new Deadpool series from crime novelist Victor Gischler (Go Go Girls of the Apocalypse) is a blast, and captures everything you love about the character into one self-contained book.

IRREDEEMABLE TRADE PAPERBACK VOLUME 1 (collecting 1-4) ONLY $9.99, AND ISSUE #5 (only .99 cents) BOTH OUT THIS WEEK! TRY THIS AMAZING SUPERMAN GONE EVIL STORY NOW! IT RULES!

One of the most exciting new ongoing series to begin this year was Mark Waid's IRREDEEMABLE. This series is brilliant, folks. If you're a fan of things like WATCHMEN, THE BOYS or WANTED, then this is right up your alley. Basically, it's the exploration of what happens when a child-like sense of what's right and what's wrong becomes warped with time, and when these perceptions are that of one of the most powerful beings on the planet. It's basically questioning the golden rule of superhero comics: that everyone who goes out to be a superhero, is truly, a good person at heart and emotionally/mentally equipped to take on such an identity.

And, man, does it ever do a good job of doing that.. the story centers around The Plutonian, who you can basically consider a Superman-like icon. He's fallen from grace due to a lack of respect and love in his world. And, after having his life shattered around him, he goes mad. He kills the family of one of his old team-mates, lobotomizes his teen sidekick with his heat vision, and kills a gang of his old villains after they attempt to kill him.

Best of all, now is the perfect time to jump on. BOOM! Publishing books are notoriously hard to keep in stock, due to the very low print runs they have, which means that finding a full run of the early issues of IRREDEEMABLE has been tough. Even here at Third Eye, where we keep a much deeper backstock of recent books. Now, with the volume 1 tradepaperback, you can hop aboard the series for only $10! The first trade collects issues 1-4, and it's only $10! And, also dropping this Wednesday is issue #5, which is only $.99 cents. So, in effect, you can get all caught up on this fantastic series for only $11. Now, for one of the best sleepers of the year coming out to offer that great of a deal... you know you need to give this one a try!

Click here to read up some on IRREDEEMABLE!

CHEW: ISSUES 1, 2, & 3 ALL IN STOCK THIS WEDNESDAY AT THIRD EYE! MORE CANNIBAL DETECTIVE MADNESS!!

We're sure, by now, you've probably heard about CHEW. The first IMAGE series since WALKING DEAD to pick up this kind of heat, and internet buzz. The first issue sold out before it even hit stores, and while we were one of the few who ordered a good chunk, once they were gone.. they were gone. And, then the second print hit, and again, sold out before it hit stores. Again, we were low on our Chew ratio!

Finally, IMAGE is putting back out new printings of issues 1 and 2, as well as the newest issue in the series, #3 this week. Now, while we ordered a good deal of these, we do expect to see some allocations, so if you'd like us to hold you a copy, please get in touch so we can do that.

Now, onto the fun stuff: What the hell is Chew? Chew is a new ongoing series from IMAGE Comics that features Detective Tony Chu, who has a disorder where he gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats. Oh yeah, and the world it's set in is a world where all poultry has been banned due to bird flu. But, back to Detective Chu, so, lets say he eats a burger... big-time mental images of slaughterhouses. Now, as a homicide detective, this unusual skill comes in handy... and this leads into him having to nibble on a corpse every now and again.

All we can say folks is Chew is one strange, and interesting book. Well-written, and quirky yet awesome art make for a blast. Don't miss out a third time on jumping aboard this great series, trust us, it's totally Third Eye Recommended. To read a preview of issue #1, click here.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #601 KICKS OFF "RED-HEADED STRANGER" STORY ARC AS SPIDER-MAN BECOMES KICK-ASS AGAIN!

Amazing Spider-man #601 kicks off one of the most anticipated story arcs in Spidey history... The Return of Mary Jane. Before we get into details, all we can say is that Spidey #600 was a great read, with a vicious new take on Doc Ock, as well as the very last page bringing back ol' MJ. Now, the real story kicks off as the Return of Mary Jane is explained, and the road to the upcoming Gauntlet storyline is paved (basically, this year, we'll see all of Spidey's rogues being retooled, and revitalized to come back and whip on him month after month.. hence the name Gauntlet).
But, what's the big news? Well, Brian Michael Bendis and Joe Quesada have a very special story in the pages of #601 that highlights the relationship between Peter Parker and Jessica Jones that was revealed in NEW AVENGERS #51.
Click here to read the preview of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #601 *RED-HEADED STRANGER PT 1*

HULK #13 FEATURING THE DARK AVENGERS HITS THIS WEEK! A VERY SPECIAL DARK REIGN TIE-IN ISSUE! IT'S ARES vs. HULK?!

Okay, so now that the whole identity of Bruce Banner and the Green Hulk are in question, and the Red Hulk is still on the loose, things are about to get very interesting in this very special Dark Reign tie-in. The Dark Avengers are going to be heading out to check the status of Banner for Osborn, but what happens when they get pulled into the midst of the craziness that's been surrounding the Hulk family for the last couple of years? Well.. we imagine something that involves lots of smashing, and lots of blood. Especially when Ares, the God of War, is his chosen messenger.
And as per usual, we're guaranteed some of the most gorgeous interior art around today courtesy of Ed McGuiness. And, lets face it, the joy in the current HULK run is the ridiculousness that each issue brings. It's bigger than life, and fun in that old school way we remember comics being when we were kids. It's the one book where it's okay to not make sense all the time, because, lets face it.. it's the Hulk. :)

Clickhereto check out a preview of HULK #13 *DARK REIGN*!

JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRY FOR JUSTICE #2HITS THIRD EYE THIS WEDNESDAY! THIS NEW JLA LIMITED SERIES IS AMAZINGLY GOOD!

WOW! What a great read the first issue of this limited series setting up the new Justice League turned out to be! The creative team is great, with James Robinson (of STARMAN fame) providing a stellar approach to the story and extremely talented newcomer Mauro Cascioli blowing us away with his gorgeous painted interiors, this book has got some powerhouse talent on it.

And, not only that, but it was just a plain good Justice League story. Rock solid characterization, a nice even mix of heavy hitter top tier characters with lesser known obscurities, and a great plot kicking off the series... this one is definitely a book to snag if you've been looking for a good old fashioned Justice League series.

Not to mention, this limited series is supposed to be leading into next year's new Justice League ongoing series, which has had rumors of being helmed by GEOFF JOHNS and JIM LEE (but again, rumors are rumors).

Anyways, click here to read more about JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRY FOR JUSTICE #2!

THOR WRITER, J. MICHAEL STRACZYNSKI, DEBUTS AT DC COMICS THIS WEDNESDAY WITH THE BEGINNING OF HIS RED CIRCLE CHARACTER REVIVAL ONE-SHOTS WITH RED CIRCLE: HANGMAN #1!
Now, before we get rolling on this... let me start off by saying that even I was a little bit stumped on just who or what the hell RED CIRCLE characters were. They looked familiar, like I'd seen them somewhere previously, but I couldn't place it. But, then, combing through the Third Eye archives, I found an old Archie Comics superhero book.. and BAM! That's what it was. So, let me start off by saying that the Red Circle characters were originally non-Archie related characters that ARCHIE COMICS published in the '70s and '80s.

Now, why are we excited about the Red Circle characters? Well, critically acclaimed writer J. MICHAEL STRACZYNSKI is going to be re-inventing and reviving these characters for use in the DC Universe continuity. This is the man responsible for making THOR awesome again, for the modern classic RISING STARS, for the brutal MAX comic SUPREME POWER, and more. We have faith that he's going to be instilling some very interesting concepts into these characters, and really fleshing them out. The characters themselves, have a very pulpy feel, and this could really add an interesting new element into DC's universe. Straczynski has already proven with Marvel's The Twelve that he can take old characters and put an interesting new spin on them, so we're eager to see what awaits us.

And, this week, things get kicked off with the debut of RED CIRCLE: HANGMAN #1. This one features art from Tom Derenick and Bill Sienkiewicz, who have shown they can deliver some moody, sinister art time and time again. Clickhereto read more about the RED CIRCLE project.

TRANSMETROPOLITAN & IGNITION CITY WRITER, WARREN ELLIS, DEBUTS ONE-SHOT
FRANKENSTEIN'S WOMB THIS WEDNESDAY!
It's no secret. We're big Warren Ellis fans here at Third Eye. The man has written so many of our favorite comics, we wouldn't even know where to begin when starting on our Ellis Top 5. One of the areas we feel Ellis excels at though is weird science, and with this week's one-shot story, Frankenstein's Womb, it looks like he's exploring the worlds of weird science, and pulp horror full-force.

This is not only a story about the actual physical birth of Frankenstein, but the birth of the Frankenstein story, weaving truth with fiction, and bringing Mary Shelley as a primary character, this one looks to be a bone-chillingly good read, as she explores Castle Frankenstein, which was occupied 100 years earlier by a theoligist and alchemist obsessed with transferring the human soul into dead bodies.

From the creepy art, to the intriguing plot concept, we're stoked on this one. Be sure to check out it this Wednesday at Third Eye. Clickhere to read more about FRANKENSTEIN'S WOMB!

ABSOLUTION #1 DEBUTS FROM LAW & ORDER SVU SCREENWRITER CHRISTOS GAGE. "DEXTER" MEETS "GREEN LANTERN" AVATAR MADNESS AS A SUPERCOP GOES OFF THE DEEP END!

The preview of Absolution in Absolution #0 was promising, but we're really eager to see how this brand new AVATAR series (the publishers of NO HERO, CROSSED and more) turns out. The concept? Basically, in a world where all the police departments are composed of super-humans, what happens when one of them gets fed up with the justice system and starts taking the law into his own hands? Well, he becomes a supercharged serial killer, taking the law into his own hands.
This one is a nice mix of the TV show DEXTER with the super-cop concepts of GREEN LANTERN, put through the ultraviolent filters of AVATAR PRESS.
Give it a look this week! Clickhere to read more aboutABSOLUTION #1!

THE LATEST IN MARVEL NOIR: LUKE CAGE NOIR #1 DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY!

The Marvel Noir series have been kind of hit and miss, with series like DAREDEVIL NOIR and WOLVERINE NOIR providing surprise hits, and then books like X-MEN NOIR fizzling out towards the end. So, it's always a mixed bag with the Noir stuff. We're personally very excited for the Luke Cage Noir series, because the creative team behind it has built a pretty solid rep on doing noir-influenced superhero stories.
Plus, the general concept of it being set between the end of the Great Depression, but before the end of Prohibition, makes for some very intriguing story ideas.
And, to be honest, the artwork in this one looks incredible!
Clickhere to read more aboutLUKE CAGE NOIR #1!

SECRET WARRIORS WRITER JONATHAN HICKMAN'S TIME-TRAVEL EPIC PAX ROMANA NOW AVAILABLE IN TRADE PAPERBACK!

Okay, it's safe to say that Jonathan Hickman is one of our favorite new talents to rise up in this decade. We've really enjoyed his work since discovering him on Nightly News, and everything he's done since has been dynamite. He's currently been wowing us month in, and month out with the Marvel ongoing series SECRET WARRIORS (which is the best Nick Fury comic since the days of Jim Steranko!).
This week, the arrival of Hickman's Pax Romana graphic novel is a pretty big deal for us. This story took a long time to finish, so reading it all at once, will really enrich the experience. What's so darn cool about Pax Romana?
It's set in the future where monotheism is on the wane in the East and the West. The vatican has funded a secret time travel experiment, and goes back in time to get a Roman army of gladiators. Of course, everything goes horribly wrong, and turns into a very horrifying story.
Highly recommended. Click here to read about PAX ROMAN

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE FOR WEDNESDAY 7/22/09!

That's right, folks! Third Eye is extremely excited to announce that we have been selected as one of the official sites to come celebrate the Marvel 70th Anniversary Party! Now, surely, you're asking... "What the hell is the Marvel 70th Anniversary Party?" Well, it's basically a big birthday party for Marvel Comics that's being held at selected comic shops across the country. It's also the "midnight release" of the extremely awesome looking MARVELS PROJECT from ED BRUBAKER, which is going to be one hell of a great read. And, being a birthday party, you can expect some free cake and ice cream, along with a great sale on all your favorite Marvel products.

BLACKEST NIGHT: GREEN LANTERN #44 CONTINUES THE SHEER AWESOMENESS OF BLACKEST NIGHT THIS WEDNESDAY AS BLACK LANTERN MARTIAN MANHUNTER GOES HEAD TO HEAD WITH HAL AND BARRY! MEANWHILE, BLACKEST NIGHT: TALES OF THE CORPS #2 CONTINUES TO EXPLORE AND REVEAL THE ORIGINS AND SECRETS OF THE DIFFERENT LANTERN CORPS!

Wow, holy crap, was Blackest Night awesome last week or what? It was a great first issue, and definitely well worth the hype. It's always a big bonus to see books live up to the hype they've been given, and we were very satisfied with the first issue of Blackest Night. A quick side note.. if you skipped BLACKEST NIGHT: TALES OF THE CORPS #1... pick it up this week! It was a VERY good tie-in issue, and with GEOFF JOHNS and PETER J. TOMASI handling the storytelling on it.. it definitely was not just a filler tie-in. We still have some of these left in stock, so be sure to snag yourselves a copy of #1 this week.

Now, onto Green Lantern #44. As most of you already know, Green Lantern has turned into one of DC's flagship premiere titles. After Green Lantern #43 from a couple of weeks ago (which kicked off Blackest Night by revealing the origin behind BLACK HAND, and his role as the herald for the Black Lantern Corps), we are extremely stoked to see what comes next this week in GREEN LANTERN #44. The solicits make it look like we'll be seeing J'onn Jonzz, the Martian Manhunter, who is now a super evil, super wicked Black Lantern throwing down with the Flash and Green Lantern. Plus, Sinestro is on his way to take back what is his from Mongul, the usurper of the Sinestro Corps. This one's a must for all of you following the Blackest Night ,and with more killer art from Doug Mahnke (he did Green Lantern 43), you know it's going to be one hell of a wicked read! Click here to read more about GREEN LANTERN #44!

As I said up above, the first issue of Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps was AWESOME! A fantastic read, and definitely not just another filler tie-in issue. It gets in depth with the secrets and mysteries behind the different color Lantern Corps, as well as their connections to The Blackest Night. If you guys missed out on the first one, then don't worry, we still have some in stock here at Third Eye. Come on through, and scoop up 1 and 2, and you'll be all caught up. Trust us, folks, it's worth it for the Mongul part alone, but the whole thing was good reading. And, the fact that Geoff Johns and Peter J. Tomasi, the two masterminds behind Blackest Night are penning it, definitely makes it into some solid reading. Click here to read more about BLACKEST NIGHT: TALES OF THE CORPS #2!

DEADPOOL SUICIDE KINGS #4 ARRIVES, AND ISSUES 1,2 AND 3 ARE ALL NOW IN STOCK AT THIRD EYE!

Deadpool is by far one of Marvel's most popular characters right now. And, while both of his currently ongoing series have been a great deal of fun, we've been huge fans of the current limited series, DEADPOOL: SUICIDE KINGS. You want to see Deadpool going head to head with the Punisher and Spider-man in completely ridiculous and awesome scenarios? Well, you got it, folks. And, last week, we were lucky enough to get all of the first three issues of DEADPOOL SUICIDE KINGS back in stock. So, if you missed em, now's your chance to jump aboard, and get into this killer series.

IMMORTAL WEAPONS #1 DEBUTS FEATURING TALES OF IRON FISTS PAST FROM SCALPED WRITER JASON AARON & CRIME NOVELIST DUANE SWIERCZYNSKI!

Iron Fist was one of our favorite hidden gems here at Third Eye. Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction really breathed new life into this character by infusing the book with old school Shaw Brothers Kung Fu Theater-style action, and a rich backstory. And, while we're sad to see Iron Fist's ongoing series come to an end, we're very excited about this new five issue limited series, IMMORTAL WEAPONS, which will be dedicating each issue to one of the classic Iron Fists of days gone past.

The first issue explores the origins and adventures of FAT COBRA, Master of the Sumo Thunder Stomp and the Devil's Skullcrusher! Written by rising star, Jason Aaron, the man responsible for our current favorite VERTIGO book, SCALPED, this is a very promising new limited series and is a must for anyone who loves two things: old school Kung Fu and Marvel Comics! PLUS, Duane Swierczynski returns with a new Danny Rand story! Click here to check out a preview of IMMORTAL WEAPONS #1!

ADULT SWIM'S METALOCALYPSEDETHKLOK VS. THE GOON ONE-SHOT ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY!

There are some pairings that are just common sense. Wolverine and Ninjas. Peanut butter and Jelly. Coffee and cigarettes. For whatever reason, they just work together. And, this Wednesday, the next dynamic duo dream team combo arrives with DETHKLOK vs. THE GOON. Yes, THAT Dethklok, the animated death metal band that appear on ADULT SWIM all the time. And, they're going head to head with one of our favorite bar-room brawlers, the Goon! Whether you've never read the Goon before in your life, or you've been following all along, this issue is the perfect entry point to the character. Find out why we rave all the time abou Eric Powell's gorgeous, twisted art, and why the quirkiness of the Goon keeps us coming back for more and more.

FINAL CRISIS: LEGION OF 3 WORLDS #5 ARRIVES... FINALLY!

The question that's been on every DC's brain over the last few months has been when the hell are we going to see the conclusion to the super awesome, but.. super late.. FINAL CRISIS: LEGION OF 3 WORLDS limited series? Well, finally, this week, the grand finale to this awesome (probably our favorite of the Final Crisis tie-ins) limited series arrives. Geoff Johns (Blackest Night mastermind) and George Perez (legendary comic book artist extraordinaire) really crafted a good story with this one, and with it leading directly into this summer's new ADVENTURE COMICS, we're really eager to see how the series ends out. BATMAN: REBORN CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY IN GOTHAM CITY SIRENS #2 FROM BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES WRITER PAUL DINI! YOUR HARLEY QUINN FIX IS HERE!

I gotta say, guys, I am totally impressed with how good the Batman books have been in the wake of Battle for the Cowl. DC has really lined up some rock solid creative teams, and done a damn fine job keeping a nice tight cohesive feel between the books. It's really hard to choose a favorite, although it's a strong three-way tie between Batman & Robin, Detective Comics, and Streets of Gotham. I have to say though, Gotham City Sirens was a good start, and lets face it, it's Paul Dini (the co-creator of the critically acclaimed BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES) doing what he does best: writing Harley, Ivy, and the rest of the Gotham femme fatales. And, this week, the next follow-up in this really cool new series featuring Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and Catwoman arrives. Click here to read more about GOTHAM CITY SIRENS #2!

STAR TREK: SPOCK REFLECTIONS #1 - NEW LIMITED SERIES SET IN THE SAME UNIVERSE AS THIS YEAR'S NEW JJ ABRAMS "STAR TREK" FILM!

My favorite movie of the summer is still Star Trek. I thought they captured everything perfectly, and did a great job of keeping the essence of the franchise while making it accessible to people who weren't as diehard fans of the older films. To be honest, I'm a fan of the original series, and some of Next Generation, but, movie-wise.. this and Wrath of Khan are the big ones for me. And, the Star Trek Countdown miniseries that coincided with the film was EXTREMELY well-done. It did a fantastic job of weaving together the different timelines and realities of Trek.

This Wednesday, the new Star Trek: Spock Reflections limited series explores the reasons Spock chose to live on Romulus, and the events that play into the new Trek movie's Spock's choices and motivations. Plus, there's supposed to be some pretty startling surprises in store as well. Looks pretty solid, and lets face it: we're all hankering for some more Trek that's set in the same universe as the film. Click here to read a preview of STAR TREK: SPOCK REFLECTIONS #1!

DARK WOLVERINE #76 CONTINUES THIS SURPRISE HIT!

Okay, I'll admit it, I was a little on the fence about the new Dark Wolverine title. I've never been a big fan of the character Daken, and I don't have much faith in Daniel Way as a writer (outside of his work on DEADPOOL, which has been great). BUT BUT BUT.. I read Dark Wolverine #75, and I really enjoyed it. The first issue was pretty damn solid, and had some intriguing story potential going for it. I think the addition of Marjorie Liu is what really helps flesh the story and writing out. Plus, the artwork was very nicely done from Giuseppe Camuncoli. This week, the sinister master plans of Daken continue to take shape, as we find out what his motivations for being in the DARK AVENGERS are. Click here to read a preview of DARK WOLVERINE #76!

WEDNESDAY COMICS #3 - DC'S NEW 12 ISSUE WEEKLY SERIES CONTINUES TO DELIVER AWE AND AMAZEMENT! LAST WEEK'S WAS AWESOME! NEIL GAIMAN ON METAMORPHO, THE KUBERTS ON SGT ROCK, PAUL POPE ON ADAM STRANGE!

Wednesday Comics is probably going to end up being one of my favorite series of this year. It's brilliant format, beautiful artwork, and incredible roster of A-List writers makes the fact that we get this slab of beautiful every Wednesday even better. I'm serious, folks, no hype here.. I am really digging this. The format's a little awkward at first, but once you read through it, you realize there's really no other appropriate way for these stories to be told. And, when you really look at the mechanics of how the writers and artists have to get a chunk of story across in just one giant over-sized page... it really is impressive. Honestly, if you're just a fan of comics in general, give Wednesday Comics a go if you haven't already. We still have issue #1 and issue #2 in stock, and this week, the third installment arrives.

How can you go wrong with pairings such as 100 Bullets's Azzarello and Risso, Neil Gaiman and Mike Allred, Joe Kubert and his son Andy Kubert, and many others? Plus, Amanda Conner knocking it out of the park with Supergirl, and Paul Pope delivering an amazing Adam Strange story. It's A+ stuff, guys. Give it a look.
