This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 11/27/13

IMAGE COMICS DEBUTS RICK REMENDER (Uncanny X-Force: The Dark Angel Saga) and MATTEO SCALERA'S BLACK SCIENCE #1 this Wednesday.

Dude: we are so freakin' amped for this comic. Right now, right here -- this is the comic of the week, I'm calling it.
Seriously: your minds are about to be blown. In the tradition of other major IMAGE COMICS releases like SAGA, EAST OF WEST, and PRETTY DEADLY; BLACK SCIENCE looks to be one of the most promising top shelf reads from the publisher this Fall.
Rick Remender has been one of the most promising writers rising through the ranks over the last few years, with his exciting runs on UNCANNY X-FORCE DARK ANGEL SAGA, CAPTAIN AMERICA MARVEL NOW, and his own FEAR AGENT saga, and then pairing him up with the uber talented Matteo Scalera for BLACK SCIENCE is a HUGE deal.
OK, so obviously, it's IMAGE, so you know the mark of quality is surely there -- but, what else makes BLACK SCIENCE so gosh-darn special?
In BLACK SCIENCE, former member of the anarchistic order of scientists, Grant McKay has finally done the impossible; he has deciphered BLACK SCIENCE and punched through the barriers of reality.
But, what lay beyond the veil was not epiphany but chaos. Now Grant and his team are lost, living ghosts shipwrecked on an infinite ocean of alien worlds, barreling through the dark realms, long forgotten, ancient and unimaginable.
The only way is forward.
The only question is how far are they willing to go get to get home again?
Does this not sound EPIC? Holy crap: we're in. We're in. We're in!
Seriously though, we've been lucky enough to see some advance shots on this one, and the artwork is gorgeous, and Remender is at his best here. He brings the manic raw energy and big ideas that he threw at us in FEAR AGENT and FRANKENCASTLE, and combines it with the surgical world building of  his X-FORCE: THE DARK ANGEL SAGA run.
Scalera and White are a dynamite art team, as they bring Remender's lush, alien worlds to life in pure style.
Folks, this one comes with a Third Eye stamp of approval -- you buy it, and don't like it? We'll give you your money back. Seriously. Trust us: you're gonna love it!

I think that many of you guys are like us, and happen to be huge DAMIAN fans. So, like us, you're probably stoked to see the character getting a bunch more time on the page, right? Yeah, we are too!
This new limited series dropped last month, and the first issue was off-the-chain cool. Andy Kubert writes and draws this stunning take on an alternate timeline where Batman dies, and Damian ends up having to pick up where his father left off, and become the new Dark Knight.
In issue #2, Damian Wayne faces the most important decision of his adult life after a dangerous confrontation with someone dear to him.
Plus, a soul-searching journey into the madness of Arkham Asylum shows him the war that he will be fighting until his death.

Third Eye Faithful, we loved the hell outta issue #1 of PRETTY DEADLY, and we know many of you did as well. Plus, the creators Kelly Sue DeConnick & Emma Rios were so freakin' cool at our signing last month that our love for the book grew even more.
This week, the second issue of the red-hot new IMAGE series drops, and you gotta check it out.
The Old West is steeped in violence and strange magic in this macabre tale from Kelly Sue DeConnick and Emma Rios.
Gunfighters have it out with swords as the whole world burns. There's blood, more blood, and even more blood.
And through it all, the lone daughter of the Grim Reaper, travels from town to town, dealing out deadly retribution.
Imagine the harsh brutality of PREACHER by way of SANDMAN's mystical leanings, and you've got a pretty good idea of what makes PRETTY DEADLY so darn special.

FOREVER EVIL CONTINUES IN JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #25 THIS WEDNESDAY AT THIRD EYE!
We're LOVING DC's FOREVER EVIL event. Seriously, this is some of the best stuff the publisher has done in quite some time, and it's really kicking ass and taking names on all fronts.
In this FOREVER EVIL tie-in, John Constantine the Hellblazer is alone in a worlds here super-villains reign, and now, he must enlist the aid of SWAMP THING in order to turn the tide on the hordes of baddies that've overtaken the DCU.
Much like TRINITY WAR, the tie-ins between JUSTICE LEAGUE, JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK, and JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA, have all been very well-connected to one another, and totally delivering great reads.
We highly recommend checking those out, even if you're not doing the other tie-ins.
Wanna get caught up on FOREVER EVIL? We've got all the tie-ins in stock and available now.!

THE AWESOMENESS THAT IS FIVE GHOSTS CONTINUES IN THIS WEDNESDAY'S FIVE GHOSTS #7 -- INDIANA JONES meets HELLBOY meets BEN 10? Holy crap: this comic is good!
A brand new story arc begins in this week's FIVE GHOSTS #7 with LOST COASTLINES Chapter 1.
After the initial arc, the HAUNTING OF FABIAN GRAY, which introduced us to the compelling world of Fabian Gray and Five Ghosts... we're stoked to see the adventure continuing, as everyone's favorite treasure-hunter embarks on an all-new pulp adventure.
Folks, if you haven't started reading FIVE GHOSTS yet, you gotta get into this one. It truly is one of the most satisfying reads on the stands, as Frank J. Barbiere and Chris Mooneyham both bring their very best work to the page, crafting a unique and innovative pulpy adventure that captures the timeless fun of Indiana Jones, the eerie folklore and horror elements of HELLBOY, and an almost BEN 10 / Castlevania-esque take on Fabian's unique abilities.
What's it all about? Meet Fabian Gray. Treasure hunter extraordinaire, who just so happens to be haunted by Five Ghosts who happen to bear striking resemblances to characters of classic literature.
The Samurai. The Vampire. The Detective. The Archer. The Wizard.
And, when Fabian needs to, he can call on the uncanny abilities of any one of these ghosts -- but there's a price he may pay for using them.
Fantastic stuff, Five Ghosts continues to be one of the best damn comics we're reading, and we highly recommend you check it out!

THE MAXX: MAXXIMIZED #1 BRINGS SAM KIETH'S MASTERPIECE BACK IN A MONTHLY SERIES, FEATURING REMASTERED ARTWORK AND COLORING!
ONE OF THE BEST COMICS OF ALL-TIME!
Man, Third Eye Faithful, are we stoked to see THE MAXX back and available for you to check out -- we grew up on this book, and it truly does stand the test of time as one of the best comics on the stands.
If there was one comic coming out during the '90s from IMAGE that really hinted at what the publisher had potential to become what it is now -- it was THE MAXX.
Now, Sam Kieth, the series creator, is bringing the MAXX back to us in a monthly series, giving the full experience to us all over again.
MAXX: MAXXIMIZED is a re-mastered version of the series, with revised coloring, all overseen by Kieth.
The MAXX itself is one of the coolest stories of all-time, with a combination of strong, character-driven storytelling and surrealist fantasy landscapes.
It tells the story of a homeless person who lives in a box and moves back and forth between our reality and 'The Outback', a heroic fantasy realm.
He is aided and accompanied by Julie Winters, a social worker in our world and a beautiful jungle princess in The Outback.
Kieth manages to combine the entertainment of everyday humor and downright touching heartfelt moments with the bigger-than-life epic feel of a  fantasy saga.
Whether you've read the MAXX before, or never have -- we highly recommend giving this one a go, Third Eye Faithful!

BATMAN INCORPORATED VOL.2: GOTHAM'S MOST WANTED COLLECTS THE STUNNING CONCLUSION TO GRANT MORRISON'S EPIC BATMAN RUN!
Issues 7-13, as well as the BATMAN INCORPORATED SPECIAL, are collected into this hardcover which serves as the final part of Grant Morrison's epic, nearly decade long run on the Dark Knight.
Personally, Morrison's work on the Caped Crusader, is some of the most important since Neal Adams's, in my opinion.
While there's been a lot of great writers who've taken the character and made some awesome stories, Morrison's run really added new dimensions to Batman, and transformed the landscape of Gotham itself.
In GOTHAM'S MOST WANTED, Batman and his allies must strengthen their resolve as Leviathan moves against Gotham City.
Everything since issue #1 of BATMAN INC, and heck, since the very beginning of Morrison's run, has been leading to the tragic moment in which Damian Wayne pays the ultimate price in the war against crime.
Featuring art by the incredibly talented Chris Burnham, BATMAN INC VOL.2 is a must-have for any BATMAN fan.
Never read the Morrison BATMAN stuff before? We recommend starting with BATMAN AND SON, and then catching up from there, or you can jump straight into BATMAN INC with BATMAN INC VOL.1
All in stock & available now!

THE GOLD, THE GUTS, AND THE GROG CONTINUES IN THIS WEDNESDAY'S RAT QUEENS #3!
Imagine TANK GIRL by way of LORD OF THE RINGS, and that sums up the feel of one of our favorite new IMAGE titles, RAT QUEENS.
One tablespoon of cayenne peppers, 2 ounces of 100 proof vodka, and 3 ounces of tomato juice makes one fantastic Bloody Murder.
So does double-crossing the Rat Queens and foolishly thinking you can get away with it -- drink up!
Seriously tho: RAT QUEENS rocks. Set in a sword-and-sorceyr world akin to Dungeons & Dragons, the Rat Queens are four kick-ass women who hunt monsters to score treasure, and drink whole lotta liquor along the way.
Bloody as all get out -- with a wicked sense of humor, RAT QUEENS is one of our favorite books on the stands, and we highly recommend hopping on board.
We've got issues 1 & 2 in stock now to get you up to speed.

HAWKEYE #14 -- Our favorite monthly Marvel series continues to kick-ass as LADY HAWKEYE takes the stage!
You know that thing that happened to Kate Bishop in the HAWKEYE ANNUAL? Now, it's getting followed up on in this week's issue #14 of Third Eye favorite HAWKEYE.

This one has it all -- characters, plot, story, dialogue, theme, meaning, message, action.... heck, a little explosion, fire, arrows, criminals, neighbors, large bodies of water, clients, cops who don't care, a system that victimizes the victims, the dog.... heck, what more could you ask for in an issue of HAWKEYE?

In a broken town where cynicism and apathy has its claws around the throat of the good and decent, Lady Hawkeye is the ONLY hero you can trust.

Fraction & Aja continue to kick-ass and take names on what has quickly become one of our favorite monthly titles.

Written by Third Eye favorite CHARLES SOULE, LETTER 44 does an incredible job of blending real world politics with otherworldly science fiction.
In issue #1, the newly elected President Stephen Blades reads the letter left for him in the Oval Office by his predecessor, and learns a stunning secret: seven years earlier, NASA discovered an alien construction project in the asteroid belt.
A crew of heroic astronauts was sent to investigate and they're nearing the conclusion of their epic journey -- and now, Blades must figure out how to break this to the American people.

This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 7/31/13

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #5 MARKS AUTHOR NEIL GAIMAN'S RETURN TO COMICS THIS WEDNESDAY!
We are so freakin' pumped about this issue of one of our current faves, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, it's not even funny.
Like many of you, we're HUGE Neil Gaiman fans, and have loved everything he's done from THE SANDMAN to AMERICAN GODS to 1602 and beyond.
So, when we saw he was being brought on as the official co-writer of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, we knew this was going to be...AWESOME.
Combine that with the insanely impressive stuff we saw of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY shown at Comic-Con, and you've got yourself a recipe for the Third Eye Pick of the Week.
In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #5, a new direction for the title begins ,as the once former SPAWN character ANGELA, finds herself colliding with the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Spinning out of the aftermath of AGE OF ULTRON, we're extremely intrigued to see how everything plays out with the introduction of ANGELA into the Marvel Universe, and what role she plays in shaping the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY title, and the MARVEL UNIVERSE.
Plus: IT'S NEIL FREAKIN' GAIMAN! :) C'mon! You know you gotta read this one!

BATMAN ANNUAL #2 *ZERO YEAR INTERLUDE* -- SCOTT SNYDER DELIVERS A VERY SPECIAL ZERO YEAR TIE-IN WITH THIS YEAR'S BATMAN ANNUAL.
We've been totally loving not just ZERO YEAR, but Snyder's entire run of BATMAN, since it first began with the COURT OF OWLS, and things just keep on getting better with the current storyline, ZERO YEAR.
This week, Snyder delivers a very special annual issue of BATMAN, featuring a ZERO YEAR interlude, that shows that Bruce Wayne's first year as the Dark Knight has just barely begun... and already, dangerous elements are coalescing, leading Bruce toward his final destiny.
Folks: it's Snyder. It's Batman. You know what that means: MUST.READ.
Wanna hop on board the series? We've got the first two chapters of ZERO YEAR in stock now, with BATMAN #21 *chapter 1* and BATMAN #22 *chapter 2*.

COLLIDER #1 DELIVERS ONE OF THE MOST EXCITING NEW VERTIGO TITLES OF 2013! BLOOD, GUTS & SMASHED ATOMS IN THIS PHYSICS-FUELED SCI-FI THRILLER!
Collider is downright electric, folks. I'm serious -- I went from intrigued to enthralled after reading the advance preview of this one, and now I cannot wait to share it with all you guys and gals this week.
In COLLIDER #1, it starts small. Temporary gravity failures, time reversal loops, entropy reversals. With much fanfare, a new government agency was formed with a mandate "to prevent and protect."
It's official title: the Federal Bureau of Physics.
Humans, if nothing else, adapt to the changing parameters of their existence. What was extraordinary soon became ordinary, a part of people's daily lives.
They move on and do what people have always done: survive.
But even that new status quo is now under threat.
Things are getting worse, and it falls to Special Agent Adam Hardy and his FBP team to figure out what's going on, before it's too late.
From the same publisher who's bringing us Snyder's incredible "THE WAKE", Collider explodes onto the stands this Wednesday, delivering one of the freshest new reads from VERTIGO we've seen all year.
Do not sleep on this one!

FIVE GHOSTS: HAUNTING OF FABIAN GRAY #5 WRAPS UP THE FIRST ARC OF THIS EXCITING NEW ONGOING IMAGE SERIES!
One of our favorite new books of the year, FIVE GHOSTS, wraps up it's first story arc with this Wednesday's #5, and sets the stage for the big start of the next arc in issue #6.
This series has really captivated us since it's debut, with stunning artwork, and an eerie, yet action-packed story that is completely unique amongst most of other titles on the stands right now.
What's the scoop on this series? Picture this: Fabian Gray is a totally bad-ass treasure-hunter who just so happens to get haunted by FIVE ghosts..... a Wizard... a Samurai... an Archer... a Vampire.. and a Detective.
Now, he carries these icons of legend with him where-ever he goes, and whenever the need arises: he can conjure their abilities to use as his own to get himself out of a bind.
The problem is: it's not easy being host to Five Ghosts, and it's even more difficult when you've got Spider Gods and evil Wizards out to rip them from your very soul.
This series is a mash-up of pure pulp adventure, Mike Mignola-esque HELLBOY aesthetic, 1970s horror comics, and video games like CASTLEVANIA. And, we love the hell out of it.
Wanna get into the series? We've got issues 1-4 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #5.

BRIAN WOOD & OLIVIER COIPEL'S INCREDIBLE NEW "X-MEN" ONGOING SERIES HITS ISSUE #3 THIS WEDNESDAY, SHOWCASING THE HEROINES OF THE X-MEN UNIVERSE IN ONE TITLE!
We've been totally digging the new X-MEN series from BRIAN WOOD (Star Wars, DMZ, Northlanders, and countless others) and Olivier Coipel (Thor, Siege), so we're pretty pumped to see it's third issue dropping this Wednesday.
Focusing on the women of the X-Men teams, X-MEN has been delivering a compelling, and action-packed storyline that's been quickly becoming one of our favorites of the X-Titles.
In issue #3, the X-MEN find out what Arkea is capable of, and the phrase "rampaging horde" comes to mind.
Can Arkea be defeated? Can the X-MEN take down one of their own, if that's what it takes?
Meanwhile, what's up with Sublime and Rachel? What's up with Bling and Cipher? What's up with Jubilee and Bling?
Wanna get caught up? We've got issues 1 & 2 in stock now to catch you up for this week's #3.

INVINCIBLE VOL.18: DEATH OF EVERYONE arrives this Wednesday, delivering the next installment of WALKING DEAD writer ROBERT KIRKMAN's incredible superhero epic!
You guys know by now: we love INVINCIBLE. Seriously -- one of the best damn comics on the stands, and it just gets better and better with each new arc.
Written by WALKING DEAD creator ROBERT KIRKMAN, INVINCIBLE does for superhero comics what WALKING DEAD does for horror comics; and by that, we mean that it delivers a smart, deep, and character-driven story that's not afraid to punch you in the gut with a sudden character death or shocking plot twist.
We love the heck out of it.
This week's volume 18, collects issues issues 97-102, and showcases the especially grisly events of issue #100... where, well, A LOT of characters end up being ripped to shreds by some souped-up crazy Dinosaur guy.
Mark Grayson's entire life as a superhero, all he's learned, all he's endured, it's all been leading to this one moment. Will he become the hero he was meant to, or will he be forced to choose... a DIFFERENT path?
If you've NEVER read INVINCIBLE before, we highly recommend snagging a copy of volume 1 this week when you visit, and giving it a shot.
If you love WALKING DEAD, and even if you're not big into superhero comics, we promise: you'll love this book. If superheroes were real, and the impact of their actions were felt in the way that real events affect people... it'd be INVINCIBLE.
Get into it!

THE WAKE #3 -- SCOTT SNYDER (BATMAN: COURT OF OWLS, AMERICAN VAMPIRE) continues to deliver a chillingly awesome read with THE WAKE
You guys have heard us sing the praises of SCOTT SNYDER many times before, and we're going to just keep on doing so, 'cause let's face it: the guy can WRITE.
His current series, THE WAKE, from DC VERTIGO, has us hooked, and we cannot wait to read this week's issue #3.
Imagine the atmospheric horror of JOHN CARPENTER'S THE THING mixed with the underwater terror of every Lovecraftian tale you can think of rolled into one sleek, modern story.
In THE WAKE #3, a new species has been discovered at the bottom of the ocean, and as a result: people are dying.
Is it the missing link? Or a link to something even bigger? Marine biologist Lee Archer and her crew have to find out before things get much, much worse....
Snyder is ON POINT as he delivers a genuinely horrifying creature feature, and Sean Murphy's art has never looked better, as he brings the horror of the WAKE to life in it's murky greatness.
Wanna get into it? We've got issues 1 & 2 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #3.

BATMAN INCORPORATED #13 brings GRANT MORRISON'S EPIC DECADE LONG RUN on BATMAN to an end... a monumental issue!
Grant Morrison is one of the best darn comic book writers of all time. That's not an opinion, that's a fact. The man is literally a walking, talking mythology-making machine, and for the better part of the last ten years, he's been crafting the DARK KNIGHT in a way that will have an impact on the character that hasn't been seen since Frank Miller's YEAR ONE and DARK KNIGHT RETURNS.
It's been easy to overlook the incredible run that Morrison's had towards the end, due to the strange nature of it's place in relation to the NEW 52 continuity, and the awesomeness going on in Snyder's BAT-books.. but, Morrison's BATMAN run is more than just a good run: it's modern mythology, in the same way that Neal Adams and Frank Miller had done before.
First beginning with BATMAN AND SON (available in the awesome BATMAN: THE BLACK GLOVE hardcover), and then continuing through BATMAN: RIP, Return of Bruce Wayne, and the classic BATMAN AND ROBIN with FRANK QUITELY, Morrison has shaped the Dark Knight into a very interesting kind of Batman for the 21st century.
And, now, he's bidding the character farewell with the conclusion to his run with BATMAN INC #13.
All we can tell ya is this: it's good stuff. Trust us.
Wanna get into it? We've got BATMAN INC 1-12 in stock now to catch you up, as well as all the graphic novels collecting Morrison's epic BAT-run.

NICK SPENCER, writer of BEDLAM & MORNING GLORIES, delivers his trippy sci-fi slice-of-life epic, INFINITE VACATION, in a gorgeous deluxe hardcover this Wednesday!
Imagine OFFICE SPACE meets FIGHT CLUB by way of TOTAL RECALL

Folks, we LOVED Infinite Vacation, and are totally stoked to hook you up with one of the best damn IMAGE reads we've seen in the last few years, now that it's available in graphic novel format.
A clever, somewhat humorous, and conceptually insane read, INFINITE VACATION is a unique blend of slice-of-life day-to-day humor, like THE OFFICE or OFFICE SPACE, mixed with the existential vibe of FIGHT CLUB, and the sci-fi dystopia of TOTAL RECALL.
We LOVE it.
What's it about? In the world of INFINITE VACATIONS, alternate realities are up for sale, and buying and trading your way through unlimited vacations of yourself is as commonplace as checking your email.
Of course, what happens when the lives you thought were your biggest dreams turn into your worst nightmares? And, even worse, what happens when alternate versions of you end up dead?
At long last, the brilliant and beautiful series that turned alternate realities on its ear, is collected together for the first time in a beautiful, lavish, oversized hardcover.

INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US #7 CONTINUES TO MAKE THIS ELSEWORLDS DC SERIES A MUST-READ!
Imagine a world where Superman's murdered the Joker, and all hell has broken loose!
INJUSTICE has, by far, been the breakout surprise hit of the year for superhero comics, and it just keeps on getting better and better with each and every issue.
More than just a tie-in to the game, the world of the INJUSTICE comics is a fascinating look at a DC Universe without any rules.
It all starts early on when The Joker murders Lois Lane, and then Superman literally rips his lungs out of his chest in one swift movement.
From there... everything changes, and the DCU goes to war.
In issue #7, the tragic death of one of their own has further divided the heroes. Friendships fracture as paths are chosen. The citizens of Earth, too, are divided in their feelings on the heroes' new, proactive roles, and Billy Batson wants to hear what they have to say.
Meanwhile, a signal from Metropolis proves that someone.. or something.. has survived.
Wanna get caught up? We've got issues 1-6 in stock now to catch you up to Wednesday's #7.

WOLVERINE PAIRS UP WITH TOP CHEF CHRIS COSENTINO IN WOLVERINE: IN THE FLESH #1 THIS WEDNESDAY
So, I'm not going to lie.. my knowledge of TV Chefs pretty much starts and ends with Anthony Bourdain ('cause dude is pretty darn cool), so I'm not super familiar with this guy, but apparently, he's a Top Chef, and was on Iron Chef, and well, a bunch of other Chef stuff.
What I do know is that I love the ridiculousness of Wolverine teaming up with a celebrity chef, and cannot wait to read this one; cause dammit, it's gonna be entertaining.
Check it out this week!

Join Us This Saturday for the Early Release Launch Party of BURN THE ORPHANAGE #1 featuring a THIRD EYE COMICS exclusive cover by BRANDON GRAHAM (KING CITY, MULTIPLE WARHEADS)
We've got a VERY special event happening this Saturday, as we bring SINA GRACE (LIL DEPRESSED BOY) and DANIEL FREEDMAN (UNDYING LOVE) to Third Eye Annapolis for the launch of their new series, BURN THE ORPHANAGE.
We're huge fans of both these guys's work, and when we saw the concepts for BURN THE ORPHANAGE, we knew we had to do something special to kick things off.
What's the scoop on this one, and why are we so pumped? Well, as kids who grew up in the era of 16-bit button-masher video games, we couldn't help but be drawn to BURN THE ORPHANAGE with it's STREETS OF RAGE / FINAL FIGHT aesthetic, and plot.
Imagine the post-modern comic book hyper-violence of STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE blended with classic retro video games like DOUBLE DRAGON, and that sums up BURN THE ORPHANAGE quite well.
In BURN THE ORPHANAGE, a young orphan named Rock was left for dead, and now... he's out for revenge! With partners Lex and Bear by his side, our hero will find out who burned his home and family to the ground. Even if it means taking on every goon, punk, and topless stripper ninja in the city.
As the very first part of the BORN TO LOSE Trilogy, BURN THE ORPHANAGE captures the raw energy of everything we loved about video games back in the days of SNES and SEGA Genesis, and combines it with everything we love about comics today.
We're going to be hosting a special launch party this Saturday to release the book, and we're offering an EXCLUSIVE Third Eye comics variant for just $3.99, featuring a cover by Third Eye favorite BRANDON GRAHAM (King City, Multiple Warheads).
