THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS FOR WEDNESDAY 10/7/09

THIRD EYE MUST BUY: WALKING DEAD WRITER ROBERT KIRKMAN & COMICS LEGEND, TODD MCFARLANE DEBUT A BRAND NEW ONGOING SERIES THIS WEDNESDAY: HAUNT

It's finally here! This highly anticipated new Image title from the amazingly talented ROBERT KIRKMAN (you know, the man responsible for WALKING DEAD, INVINCIBLE, and most recently, DESTROYER) and comics legend TODD MCFARLANE (the creator of Spawn, and one of the biggest comics superstars from back in the day) is set to be one of the biggest new series launches in a while. It's got a very talented line-up onboard (Kirkman, McFarlane, and then Invincible artist Ryan Ottley), and a very cool, sounding plot and concept. On first look, the series looks kind of like a supernatural spin on Spider-man, but knowing Kirkman, we know there's a lot more going on than that.

The solicits about the plot haven't given us a lot to go on as far as what the story is all about, but what we do know is it centers around a man who's drawn into a world of espionage and murder by his brother's ghost. I just got done reading the 10 preview pages up at CBR, and I have to say I'm pumped. This one looks like a fresh, cutting edge new superhero book that's going to be a fine addition to Robert Kirkman's incredible line-up of solid work.

Not to mention, it marks a very significant event with the return of Todd McFarlane to picking up the art chores on a book. It's been years, and years since McFarlane has committed to a series, but here he is, and it's with one of the most talented young writers in the field today.

One thing I'd like to say that is if you are interested in Haunt, be sure to snatch it up this week, or get in touch about having one set aside. While we've ordered a good deal of these, and don't plan on selling out, we do know that Image tends to run lower print runs on things than the bigger publishers (Chew, for example, was a case of this).

Anyways, folks, make sure you give HAUNT a look here at Third Eye this Wednesday. We're stoked on this one! Click here to check out a 10 page preview of HAUNT #1!

ASTONISHING X-MEN #31 KICKS OFF NEW STORY ARC, NEW DIRECTION WITH PLANETARY/TRANSMETROPOLITAN WRITER WARREN ELLIS AND MODERN LEGEND ARTIST PHIL JIMINEZ, AND IT LOOKS INCREDIBLE! A PERFECT JUMPING ON POINT! If you read just one X-Book, this is it!

Astonishing X-Men has been long regarded as one of Marvel's prestigious top tier titles. Joss Whedon and John Cassaday kicked this one off with an epic 25 issue run that still has yet to be matched as one of the best X-Men stories of the last two decades. They set the tone for the series well, giving us a book that, while relevant in regards to the Marvel Universe and set in the normal continuity, was still self-contained, and not bogged down with the messy plot threads that many X-Books of the past have been. When their run was finished, Ellis took it over with artist Bianchi, and while the storytelling was solid, Bianchi's art didn't quite deliver what we had come to expect.

Now, with a brand new story arc beginning in this week's issue 31, and with new series artist Phil Jiminez, we're stoked to see the book returning to the former heavy weight greatness it had held before. Honestly, it wasn't until I read the free sketchbook preview Marvel had sent us to give out a couple weeks ago, that I was totally sold on the new run. After checking out some of Jiminez's art on the book, and reading what Ellis has planned for the story, I think this one is going to be a big-time must-read. Everyone wants to like the X-Men, and everyone wants to read the X-Men, but it's rare that you're given a book that captures the spirit of the characters as well as Astonishing X-Men. This book isn't bogged down with characters you could care less about, this IS the X-Men. Wolverine, Storm, Cyclops, Beast, Colossus, and more. The icons.

And, what's the scoop on this new arc? Abigail Brand, Agent of S.W.O.R.D is on a one-way death trip, and she's taking (unwillingly) in a spaceship that's careening towards Earth. Who does she call in to help prevent this? The X-Men, of course. But, that's too simple, right? Of course it is, this is Warren Ellis, we're talking about here folks, the writer of critically acclaimed works like PLANETARY, TRANSMETROPOLITAN, THE AUTHORITY, and cult favorites like NEXTWAVE, IGNITION CITY and FELL. If there's one thing Ellis knows how to do right (as evidenced from his genre-defining run on The Authority), it's larger than life superhero madness, and insanity. And, heck, I think this may even be the first time I'm excited about seeing The Brood returning to the X-Books (judging from the sketchbook, they're being approached in a very ALIENS-esque HR Giger kind of way).

Click here to check out a preview of ASTONISHING X-MEN #31!

THIRD EYE MUST BUY: CRIMINAL: THE SINNERS #1FROM INCOGNITO CREATIVE TEAM OF ED BRUBAKER & SEAN PHILLIPS! THE BEST CRIME NOIR COMIC... EVER! A PERSONAL FAVORITE!

Here's one I'm super excited about, folks! Fresh off of their epic, apocalyptic superhero noir tale INCOGNITO, Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips return with CRIMINAL this Wednesday. First off, if you dug INCOGNITO, then you need to read CRIMINAL, it's pretty much the same book, through and through. Same tone, same vicious writing, same incredible atmospheric artwork, all in all, a fantastic series.

Now, if you're unfamiliar with CRIMINAL, and worried about jumping in on the middle of a story, DON'T BE. Each CRIMINAL story is self-contained, and each story arc can be in any order you please. The beauty of CRIMINAL is how it's all one self-contained universe, so you might see characters in a story arc that are background characters, but then in a later story arc become central focuses. That's the beauty. Whether you jump in fresh, or have been reading for a long time, Criminal is a very rewarding, and very satisfying title.

Why do I like CRIMINAL so much? It's the best crime genre comic I've ever read. I'd even go as far as to rank it above modern classics like 100 BULLETS and SIN CITY. It's THAT good. Brubaker's writing captures the essence of despair that all good crime noir should have, and his characters are so well-developed, that you realize there's no good, there's no bad, there's just people and the messes they get themselves into. Sean Phillips manages to perfectly pull you in with his moody, dark artwork, so well in fact that you can almost hear an old Tom Waits song playing in the background, and smell the cheap whisky and cigarettes as Brubaker weaves the tale.

Criminal is comics at their best, and we highly, HIGHLY, recommend it. THE SINNERS begins this Wednesday, focusing on TRACY LAWLESS, an ex-marine who's been forced into working for the wrong side of the law. And, with the bodies of dead gangsters piling up across the city, who does the underworld go to for justice? Mr. Lawless.

BATMAN AND ROBIN #5: THE DYNAMIC DUO vs THE RED HOOD AND SCARLET? BATMAN AND ROBIN CONTINUES TO BE THE BEST BATMAN TITLE HITTING THE STANDS!

Are you reading Batman and Robin yet? Folks, this is the BEST Batman book we're reading, and that's a big statement considering how many great Bat-books are hitting the racks these days. Hell, this is the best Bat-book we've read in YEARS. Morrison delivers a fresh, post-modern take on the concept of Batman and Robin, as Nightwing (Dick Grayson) and Damian (the offspring of Bruce Wayne andTalia Al Ghul) function together as the 21st century's Batman and Robin. This book is very nice and self-contained, tightly written, and features some of the best sequential art you're gonna see on the four color page these days (okay, I know, they're not four color anymore.. lemme have my fun!) Seriously though, everything from the introduction of compelling new Batman Rogues, to the character dynamics between Batman and Robin, this book is one breakneck, action-packed, and well-characterized ride.

In the current story arc, a new dynamic duo of the mysterious Red Hood and Scarlet, are murdering low-level thugs, crooks, and wanna-be Rogues. The strength of the beginning of the arc is Morrison's development of the relationship between Red Hood and Scarlet, and the unhealthy bond they share. And, with the addition of another great new Batman rogue, the Gravedigger, I think Morrison is keeping the momentum on this one going well. Not to mention Phillip Tan's dark, haunting artwork is the perfect fit for the dark direction of this current story arc.

Not reading BATMAN AND ROBIN yet? We still have plenty of issues 1,2,3 and 4 here at Third Eye for you to catch up with. Give em a look!

IT'S A BIG WEEK FOR GARTH ENNIS: CHRONICLES OF WORMWOOD LAST BATTLE DEBUTS, CROSSED #7 AND THE BOYS #35 BOTH ARRIVE!

GARTH ENNIS (writer of THE BOYS, CROSSED & PREACHER) PUSHES THE ENVELOPE EVEN MORE WITH THE START OF HIS NEW SERIES, CHRONICLES OF WORMWOOD: THE LAST BATTLE, THIS WEDNESDAY
!

Like the gang of hooligans we are here at Third Eye, you know we appreciate some of the finer things in sequential art... and horrifying end of the world tales featuring the razor-sharp wit and twisted mind of GARTH ENNIS (PREACHER, THE BOYS, CROSSED, ect ect) is right up our alley. And, this week with issue #7 of Crossed shipping, and only two issues of that sick and twisted masterpiece left, you're going to need something to fill the void it'll leave, right?

Well, here comes Ennis with his end of the world epic, CHRONICLES OF WORMWOOD. A true, twisted masterpiece in the making. The story focuses on Danny Wormwood, Anti-Christ, Cable TV Exec, and not really as bad of a guy as you'd think. He's basically rebelled against his dad (you know, the Devil), and said SCREW IT, I'm not bringing about the apocalypse, I'm going to leave humanity to their own devices, and see what comes of it. Oh, and he's also got the power to change ONE thing once a day. That's his little magic power. After having averted the apocalypse, it looks like there's something worse than having Satan in charge of hell, and that's having the corrupt Pope Jacko. Now, Hell's about to unleash on Earth, and if you guys know Ennis, you know it's going to be stomach-turning.

Folks, if you're a fan of THE BOYS, CROSSED, or PREACHER, then you have got to give CHRONICLES OF WORMWOOD a go this Wednesday. And, don't worry, we still have plenty of the $1.99 Preview one-shot of this series in stock too, if you wanted to scoop that up.

And, don't forget, also hitting this week we've got the newest issues of both THE BOYS (THE BOYS #35) and CROSSED (CROSSED #7). It's an Ennis triple-threat!

DARK REIGN: THE LIST CHAPTER 4 - SECRET WARRIORS FROM JONATHAN HICKMAN AND SUPERSTAR ARTIST ED MCGUINESS HITS THIS WEDNESDAY!

Marvel has been doing it right with their countdown to the end of DARK REIGN, in the pages of DARK REIGN: THE LIST. Top-level creative talent delivering one-shots that manage to both stand alone on their own merits, AND link the overall theme of the conclusion of DARK REIGN together. This Wednesday, one of the most exciting chapters of the DARK REIGN LIST countdown hits. Why am I so pumped? Well, it's SECRET WARRIORS, which is probably one of the BEST monthly series Marvel is putting out right now. And, it's featuring the writing of SECRET WARRIORS writer (and lets face it, overall mastermind) Jonathan Hickman, who is an amazing new talent that's been breaking out recently at Marvel (take a look at some of his older Image stuff like NIGHTLY NEWS, TRANSUMAN and PAX ROMANA) and superstar artist, ED MCGUINESS (most recently known for his stint on HULK). These two guys are both big favorites of mine when it comes to creators, and I really think they're going to deliver one of the best DARK REIGN LIST one-shots out of the entire round (although Jason Aaron and Ribic's upcoming Wolverine and Remender/Romita's Punisher look like they'll be serious contenders).

This one features Osborn and his need to eliminate Nick Fury, but first.. he needs Fury to uncover a breach in National Security. How's he going to manage that, AND eliminate him at the same time? This one's sure to be filled with espionage awesomeoness that you're gonna flip out over. Not to mention the role that Fury and his Secret Warriors have played in the DARK REIGN has been pretty huge, so you know this one-shot is going to play into the grand scheme of things in a big way.

DAREDEVIL #501 KICKS OFF BRAND NEW DIRECTION AND STORY ARC WITH KILLER CREATIVE TEAM OF ANDY DIGGLE (VERTIGO'S THE LOSERS) & BILLY TAN (NEW AVENGERS)

Daredevil has been one of Marvel's best kept secrets for years, and years. It never seems to get the respect it deserves, but it's the book that if you're reading it, then you already know how consistently good it is. From the groundbreaking run of BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS and ALEX MALEEV (the team behind the new SPIDER-WOMAN series) to the recent run of ED BRUBAKER, this book always seems to host some of the most exciting talent to find their way to Marvel.

Daredevil 501 kicks off after the totally epic DD #500 which not only wrapped up many plot threads of Brubaker's run, but set things up perfectly for Diggle. While we don't know a lot about the direction the book is taking, we do know that the creative team of Diggle and De La Torre is definitely a good choice for the book. Diggle's knack for the seedier side of the Marvel universe, and his intense action-oriented storytelling and pacing is a perfect fit for De La Torre's gritty, dark pencils. #501 is the perfect spot to jump on if you haven't yet come aboard with Daredevil, and seen just how great this book has been. Everything from the prior story arcs have been wrapped up nicely enough to where you can come into the story clean, so give it a shot, and find out why we're so excited about this book, and it consistently remains at the top of our read stack when it ships.

Plus, it's got lots of ninjas, and lots of ol' hornhead breaking bones in Hell's Kitchen. This looks like it'll be a very good run.

PLANETARY #27 - THE CONCLUSION TO ELLIS AND CASSADAY'S DECADE-SPANNING EPIC ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY!

For over a decade and a half, Warren Ellis and John Cassaday have enthralled us with their amazing exploration of the world of serial fiction in the pages of PLANETARY. I'd go as far as to call this one of the most important series of the last twent years, because not only is it an amazing piece of work, but it's influence is very noticable today. It's been a long time to reach this conclusion, but this Wednesday, the final issue arrives.

For those of you who're familiar with Planetary, no more information is needed, as this is something we've all been waiting on for a very long time. However, for those of you who're not yet familiar with this great piece of work, here's the run-down. The Planetary Organization bill themselves as Archaeologists of the Impossible. They track, and monitor the secret history of the world. In the world of Planetary, ALL pop culture, science fiction, pulp fiction, and comic book storytelling exist as reality. This means that in this world everything from Godzilla and Monster Island to the Justice League of America are REAL. Of course, all of these are represented with archetypes representing the characters (because of licensing issues), but in the first three issues, you see the Justice League killing off the pulp heroes of yesteryear (Doc Savage, The Shadow, ect), the graveyard that is Monster Island featuring the bloated corpse of Mothra, and the rotting remains of Godzilla, and then a very John Woo/Chow Yun Fat-esque ghost cop. And that's just the first three issues!

The Planetary group consists of four members, Jakita Wagner, who is super-strong, and invulnerable, The Drummer, who can detect and manipulate information streams, Elijah Snow, who can extract heat from nearby substances and freeze them, and then the mysterious Fourth Man who funds the group, and could be anyone from Bill Gates to Donald Trump. The book references everything from Sherlock Holmes, Hellblazer, and Green Lantern to The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, HP Lovecraft, and '50s Sci-Fi/Horror movies.

And of course, every good series needs worthy adversaries... and they exist in the mysterious Four, who are basically the Fantastic Four gone EVIL.

We HIGHLY recommend checking out Planetary if you haven't already, there's three trade paperbacks available collecting the first the first 18 issues of the series, and a fourth trade collecting Planetary crossovers with HP Lovecraft, Superman, Batman, and more.

BATMAN ANNUAL #27 BEGINS "EIGHTH DEADLY SIN" STORYLINE THAT SERVES AS THE SET-UP FOR THE UPCOMING NEW AZRAEL ONGOING SERIES!

A new Azrael was born in the pages of last spring's BATTLE FOR THE COWL, and now the set-up for his new ongoing series has begun. This week in BATMAN ANNUAL #27, "EIGHT DEADLY SIN" begins, and will continue in the pages of DETECTIVE COMICS ANNUAL #11, featuring the usual Gotham cast, but focusing on Azrael, Death's Dark Knight, these annuals lead directly into the brand new AZRAEL ongoing series hitting later this month!

PETER & MAX: A FABLES NOVEL - THE WORLD OF FABLES EXPLORED IN A PROSE NOVEL BY BILL WILLINGHAM WITH ILLUSTRATIONS BY STEVE LEIALOHA

Vertigo's FABLES series is one of the most incredible things we've read, and it still continues to impress us issue after issue. While there's been only a couple of lulls in the overall story, we've found the entire thing to be a compelling, and interesting read. The world of Fables, and the real-world reinventions of classic Fairy Tale characters as fleshed out characters with real motives, character flaws, and more has kept us hooked for many years.

This Wednesday, Vertigo debuts the first prose novel set in the FABLES universe. This one, Willingham (series creator, and the author of this novel as well), is said to be accessible for anyone, whether you've read FABLES or not. However, if you haven't tried FABLES, we advise you do, it's too good NOT to!

What is Peter and Max about? It's the dark story of Peter Piper, of Pickled Pepper fame, and Max Piper, the Pied Piper of Hamelin. This story features the dangers of the Pied Piper, and how Peter Piper will do anything in his power to protect his wife, Bo Peep, from his evil brother.

Knowing Willingham, and the world of Fables, this one will be full of twists, and strong characterzation, that not only add many more layers to the world of FABLES, but also deliver a satisfying stand-alone story as well.

VENGEANCE OF MOON KNIGHT #2 FOLLOWS UP THE SMASH HIT FIRST ISSUE OF THIS AWESOME NEW MARVEL SERIES!

The first issue of Marvel's new Moon Knight ongoing series WOWed the heck out of us. Between Hurwitz's fantastic storytelling and characterization, to Jerome Opena's awesome artwork, it was everything a solid, well-written action-packed comic should be. The series gives us a fresh new take on Moon Knight, as he's less about the schizophrenic madness, and personal demons, and more about a focused, direct assault on all that he deems wrong with the world. Now, don't go and think that ol' Moon Knight hasn't lost his crazy edge.. lets just say he's more.. methodical in his madness.

The first issue kicked off with what felt like a DIE HARD movie set in the Marvel Universe. Guns blazing, buildings getting smashed to pieces, and Moon Knight walking out of the carnage, on the jumbotron screen in Times Square.. in BROAD DAYLIGHT!

This second issue, we see Moon Knight taking the fight straight to Osborn, and you can bet it's going to be one heck of a read.

Miss the first one? Don't sweat it, we still have plenty in stock here at Third Eye. Give it a shot this week, cause this is really one of the coolest new Marvel books we've seen in quite some time.

Click here for a preview of VENGEANCE OF MOON KNIGHT #2!

RESURRECTION TRADE PAPERBACK AVAILABLE AT THIRD EYE THIS WEDNESDAY.. AND IT'S ONLY $6 FOR 184 PAGES OF STORY! WHAT HAPPENS AFTER A DECADE OF PLANET EARTH BEING OCCUPIED BY ALIENS?

Resurrection is one of those overlooked little series from the last couple years that really deserves a read. Picture this, the planet Earth has been occupied for over a decade by aliens, nicknamed "bugs." The big twist that kicks off the story is the alien invaders up and leave one day, without reason, leaving the human survivors to wonder just why the aliens have left, and what could be wrong with the planet for them to abandon it?

The book's a pretty solid read, and while it's not heavyhitter over-the-top material, it's a great story to check out for the low price of $5.99. The concept is very interesting, and the art, while it takes getting used to, carries the story well. The invasion, and it's effects, being told mostly through flashbacks (ala LOST) make the story even more compelling. This is the first six issues of the series, and it's Annual, and if you dig it, the current series is happening right now (which is about 3 or 4 issues deep). So if you're looking for a neat little sci-fi read, give this one a look!

ROBOTIKA VOLUME 1 HARDCOVER AVAILABLE THIS WEDNESDAY. A STEAMPUNK SAMURAI WESTERN THAT DELIVERS BIG-TIME! A MUST-READ!

Folks, DON'T sleep on Archaia! Between, Oko, the Killer, and now Robotika, they are putting out some of the most exciting independent books to come down the pipeline in the past couple of years. A lot of these series were criminally overlooked at first, but now that they're hitting collected editions, they're definitely worth checking out.

Robotika is especially cool, a steampunk samurai western, is the best way we could describe this one. It's a world filled with silent samurai and shady geisha, deadly mecha, and corporate corruption. The story centers around Niko, a bodyguard for the queen, who's on a mission to recover a stolen invention that could trigger a bloody and brutal civil war.

This one is a flawless blend of the wild west, and samurai epics. It's like Sam Peckinpah, Sergio Leone, Akira Kurosawa, Willim Gibson, and Masumne Shirow put their heads together and created the most kick-ass genre-smash-up ever.

STAFF PICKS FOR LAST WEDNESDAY 9/30/09
Steve - SHANG CHI MASTER OF KUNG FU SUPER SPECIAL - Chockfull of gritty, pulpy kung-fu action, this one-shot was AWESOME. Four great stories, from four great creative teams, including Jonathan Hickman-penned Deadpool / Shang-Chi motorcycle madness and Paul Gulacy doing the character he does best. AWESOME.

Torma - MARVEL ZOMBIES RETURN #5 - It brings everything Marvel Zombies back around to the center. Explains why the Sentry was breaking through time and space, and there's even a zombie rip-off of the Justice League! ZOMBIE JUSTICE LEAGUE!

Trish - BLACKEST NIGHT TITANS #2 - I know absolutely nothing about the Teen Titans, but I LOOVE this mini-series. Blackest Night has gotten me hooked too! And the writing makes characters I'm not too familiar with very well fleshed out.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS!

FINAL CRISIS #7 CONCLUDES DC'S FINAL CRISIS THIS WEEK!FINAL CRISIS REVELATIONS #5 WRAPS UP THIS WEEK AS WELL!

One of the whoppers this week is Final Crisis #7 which concludes the Grant Morrison's epic hellfire and brimstone saga of the DC Universe. This is it, folks, the entire DCU will be reborn in fire here, and we're pretty stoked here at Third Eye to see just what's up ahead on the horizon. After that shocking ending to FINAL CRISIS #6 (and while I'm avoiding spoilers, I will say that those of you who were following BATMAN: RIP, should definitely jump on FINAL CRISIS #6 if you haven't already), we're wondering what's coming next. DC is tight-lipped in the solicits about what to expect out of Final Crisis #7, but having seen some glimpses of what's going to be happening this spring in DC... it looks like some serious bad news is going to be hitting DC's Big 3. So, do yourselves a favor, and beat it to the shop this week to see just what we can expect out of the NEW DC Universe! Click here to read more about FINAL CRISIS #7!
Also, arriving this week, we've got the conclusion to the surprisingly great FINAL CRISIS: REVELATIONS. This awesome miniseries from Greg Rucka and Phillip Tan gives us Vandal Savage as the reincarnation of Cain (yeah, the biblical Cain... you know, like Abel's brother), along with the new Question and Spectre fighting off the hordes of Darkseid's minions. A brutally awesome little story, we're pumped to see how it concludes and how it ties together some aspects of Final Crisis. Click here to read more about FINAL CRISIS REVELATIONS #5!

LADY BULLSEYE CONCLUDES THIS WEEK IN DAREDEVIL #115!

One of the most exciting Daredevil story arcs since back when Bendis was doing his Murdock on Trial storyline, Lady Bullseye has totally renewed our interest in this book, and now we're completely stoked for the upcoming RETURN OF THE KING storyline. Ed Brubaker (writer of Captain America, CRIMINAL, and INCOGNITO) has given us a classic Daredevil yarn mixed with elements of a Japanese grindhouse chick out for revenge flick. This week, the bone-crushing, artery-slicing conclusion hits the racks, as Lady Bullseye and a whole mess of ninjas throw down with the Man Without Fear. It's more kung fu than you could shake a Sonny Chiba triple-feature at! Click here to read a preview of DAREDEVIL #115 *LADY BULLSEYE CHAPTER 5*

CROSSED #3 ARRIVES! THE SICKEST COMIC YOU'LL EVER READ!

All right, you've read the Boys, you've read Preacher, and you've read Punisher MAX... how much further can Garth Ennis push the boundaries of good taste? Well, Crossed proves that we haven't seen ANYTHING yet. The less I say about the first three issues (#0, #1, and #2), the better.. because trust me, this is definitely one you'll have to read to believe. What I can tell you is the basic story of Crossed: an outbreak, similar to a zombie plague, turns people into depraved, pure evil hellions driven to do all sorts of horrible things. The book follows a small group of survivors as they try to find safety and shelter in this world gone mad. Unlike most zombie stories, these individuals are not undead, and can still think, plan, and scheme. Which makes things VERY interesting. We know that everyone has been eagerly awaiting the next installment of this twisted maxiseries, but for those of you who haven't read Crossed yet, here's a link to an interview with Ennis about the series. And you better believe that we have issues 0,1, and 2 all in stock here still at Third Eye for those of you who need to catch up!
Also, don't miss Garth Ennis's bloody, brutal Western STREETS OF GLORY , which will be hitting the shop in trade paperback format this week! Another hard-hitting, twisted story that Garth Ennis put out for rising star publisher AVATAR PRESS.

GARTH ENNIS BEGINS NEW BATTLEFIELDS SERIES THIS WEEK WITH BATTLEFIELDS: DEAR BILLY #1!

If there's one thing that Ennis has proven he can do, it's write a fantastic war story. His BATTLEFIELDS: Night Witches 3-parter impressed the heck out of a lot of you (and you know Third Eye loved it or else we wouldn't have been pushing it so hard), and now, he's got the next in his line of BATTLEFIELDS comics due out this week with BATTLEFIELDS: DEAR BILLY #1! Set during the Japanese invasion of Singapore, this new story promises to deliver the same hard-hitting, heart-filled war stories that Ennis is famous for. Click here for a preview of BATTLEFIELDS: DEAR BILLY #1!

Already mentioned, Justice Society of America #23 kicks off the highly anticipated BLACK ADAM & Isis storyline.
The EPILOGUE TO NEW KRYPTON takes place in the pages of SUPERMAN #684 , which features a FACES OF EVIL appearance of the infamous PARASITE! A can't miss story for those of you who've been following the exciting events of New Krypton. Brother Blood makes his return to stir up some trouble in the pages ofTEEN TITANS #67 .

FANTASTIC FOUR #563 FEATURES 1985 TIE-IN + 1985 PREMIERE HC OUT THIS WEEK!!

I know, I know, I know... all summer long, that master of storytelling, Mark Millar has been keeping us strung along.. promising a cohesive tie between OLD MAN LOGAN, FANTASTIC FOUR, and 1985. Well, at the very end of FANTASTIC FOUR #562, I believe we saw that tie starting to be revealed. Not to mention, the subtle mentions in OLD MAN LOGAN of Reed and Sue slipping into the time-stream, and of course, the map in OLD MAN LOGAN featuring the names of a couple prominent 1985 characters. But wait no more, folks, this week... in the pages of Fantastic Four #563, we're promised a THREAT FROM THE WORLD OF 1985. Don't believe me? Go here and read for yourself. Now, Millar originally had said that his whole 1985, OLD MAN LOGAN and FF crossover... was going to be one huge Dr. Doom story... a story about the man who perhaps taught Dr. Doom a little bit about everything he knows? Well, we can see a little glimpse of that in the very end of FANTASTIC FOUR #562.
And, speaking of MARVEL 1985... the amazing miniseries where Marvel super-villains circa 1985 find a way into OUR world, the REAL WORLD, and start turning it into a slaughterhouse... that one comes out this week in collected format, so you can now catch up on your 1985! Click here to read more about MARVEL 1985.

WATCHMEN ACTION FIGURES IN STOCK THIS WEDNESDAY!!!

THE must-buy action figures of 2009 are here, and we know that you guys are going to be foaming at the mouth for these! Watchmen, Watchmen, Watchmen. The BEST friggin comic book of all-time (at least in our opinions) is being released as a feature film this spring, and it looks like it's going to KICK ASS. This week, the brand new WATCHMEN action figures are shipping, and these things look SO sweet it's unbelievable. We'll be getting in Rorshach, Nite Owl, Ozymandias, and Silk Spectre in all their plastic glory. Supplies are limited on these puppies, so if you want 'em, please get in touch with me about holding you whatever you need. For some pictures of the figures, click here.

CITY OF DUST #4 HITS SHELVES THIS WEEK!

Steve Nile's amazing blend of cyberpunk, future noir, and the supernatural has been winning over more and more readers every month. With only one more issue to go before the big finale of his hit miniseries, we're pretty damn pumped to see where this great new series is going to go next. This is the story of Phillip Khrome, a police detective in a future where fiction, religion, stories, everything has been outlawed, and the imagination has been made sterile. We learn early on that Khrome already has plenty of self-doubt, considering he caused his own father to get into trouble when he was young by re-telling the story of the Tortoise and the Hare at school. But how do you go head to head with the supernatural in a world where there's no folklore? How do you know that silver bullets harm werewolves, and vampires hate garlic? That's where things get interesting. IF you haven't already checked out City Of Dust, we have ALL of the first 3 issues still available here at Third Eye. The artworks amazing, and the story is fantastic. Give it a look. And meanwhile, you may want to keep an eye out for new publisher RADICAL. They're turning some heads with City Of Dust, Shrapnel, and the upcoming new Warren Ellis book, HOT WIRE. Click here to read more about CITY OF DUST.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE!

DARK AVENGERS #1 ONE OF THE MOST ANTICIPATED NEW BOOKS OF 2009 DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY!

In the aftermath of Secret Invasion, and in the wake of Dark Reign, there's one new title that has had EVERYONE buzzing around the shop, and that's DARK AVENGERS #1! This highly anticipated title has generated more speculation, and guess-work amongst comic fans than any other book in recent memory. I mean, come on, folks, lets face it... we all loved to be surprised. And surprised is what I'm sure we're going to all be when we get to the end of Dark Avengers #1.

What's the scoop on DARK AVENGERS #1? Other than the fact that this is one of the big new Marvel core books, and must-reads of 2009, it's the center piece of Dark Reign. This is THE book to follow if you're interested in Dark Reign, since there's no actual miniseries for Dark Reign, Dark Avengers acts as the primary core book. And just why are we so damn stoked? It's a motley crew of morally shady characters like Ares & Marvel Boy, loose cannons like The Sentry, and then SOME VERY SUSPICIOUS UNKNOWN (but familiar-looking) characters masquerading as Hawkeye, Wolverine, Spider-man, and a strange Iron Man/Captain America hybrid known as the Iron Patriot. Now, this is just my own personal hunch, but I'm betting that Bullseye is Hawkeye, and Daken (Wolverine's son) is Wolverine. I could be wrong, but that's just what I think.

Written by Brian Michael Bendis (the man behind everything from New Avengers to Secret Invasion) and penciled by Mike Deodato (of Thunderbolts fame), this book looks and reads beautifully. Great art, great story, and a mystery... we love a good mystery! Click here to read a full 8 page preview of Dark Avengers #1!!!

DARK REIGN FORECAST: MIGHTY AVENGERS #21 - NEW TEAM, NEW LINE-UP, PERFECT JUMPING ON POINT!

Another big Marvel milestone this week is Mighty Avengers #21, which features an all-new team, and all-new line-up for the Mighty Avengers. This is the new start for the Mighty Avengers, and this extra-sized issue features characters from the New Avengers, Young Avengers, Mighty Avengers and Avengers Initiative. A new team, and a new direction for this team... and to be honest, we're pretty stoked to find out just who is gonna be on the team! The preview pages show The Hulk, Jocasta, and Scarlet Witch.. amongst others... and we've seen some preliminary sketches that involve characters like Hercules... soo who can tell where this is going to go. Superstar Young Guns artist Koi Pham heads up this book with rising star writer Dan Slott. Click here for a preview of MIGHTY AVENGERS #21!

DARK REIGN FORECAST: WAR MACHINE #2 HITS THIS WEEK!

Another brand new, exciting new ongoing series to come out of Dark Reign is War Machine. War Machine is one of our favorite characters (maybe it's the fact that I played too much Marvel vs. Capcom 2 growing up, or maybe it's the shoulder cannons), but he's a badass. Taking no prisoners, showing no mercy, War Machine is the perfect hero for the new faces of the Marvel universe. This man isn't a superhero, he's a soldier wearing a weapon of mass destruction, and that's what we love about this new book. Fantastic writing from Greg Pak (PLANET HULK), and amazing pencils by Leonard Manco make War Machine a can't miss, must read new series. If you haven't checked it out yet, we've still got #1 available in limited quantities, so hop onboard! Click here to read more about WAR MACHINE #2!

DARK REIGN FORECOAST: THUNDERBOLTS #128

If there's one book that I think plays a nice role in the events of Dark Reign, it's Thunderbolts. Andy Diggle (The Losers, Hellblazer) and Roberto De La Torre have definitely been doing a kick-ass job of returning Thunderbolts back to the former glory it had during the WARREN ELLIS run. I've really been enjoying their run, and in this issue, we get to see just what happens when the second Black Widow (remember her from Marvel Knights), and the Irredeemable Ant-Man (you know, that somewhat sleazy guy who snagged Ant-Man armor a couple years ago) become mixed in with the fray. Click here to read more about THUNDERBOLTS #128!

DARK REIGN FORECAST: UNCANNY X-MEN ANNUAL #2 FEAT. EMMA FROST!

Uncanny X-Men Annual #2 hits this week, and features Emma Frost, who as we found out from the DARK REIGN one-shot, plays a role in this whole twisted mess. This important one-shot story is the one that ties the X-Men back into the mainstream Marvel universe. For a very long time, the X-Men have existed on the outskirts of the Marvel Universe, not playing a role in the major storylines, but now that ends. And in this Annual, we get to learn just what Emma Frost's shady past consists of... her ties to Namor, her ties to Osborn, and much more. And did you know that TONY STARK frequented the Hellfire Club? Neither did I! Check out the preview pages of this new one, it looks pretty damn good... Click here to read a 9 page preview of UNCANNY X-MEN ANNUAL #2!

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #584 "CHARACTER ASSASSINATION" KICKS OFF THE BIGGEST SPIDER-MAN STORY ARC SINCE LAST SUMMER'S "NEW WAYS TO DIE"

"CHARACTER ASSASSINATION" is the story arc that those of you who jumped off of Spidey after New Ways To Die have been waiting for! This is the big one, folks, and promises to tie up lots of loose ends in the Spider-man universe. First off, JOHN ROMITA JR (artist of KICK-ASS, NEW WAYS TO DIE) returns to Spidey! Who goes better with Spidey than John Romita Jr? NO ONE, that's who! His artwork wowed your asses off with "New Ways To Die", and now you get another dose of this modern legend now.
The mystery of MENACE begins to unravel, as the list of suspect narrows down. Who is this deadly new Goblin? We're gonna find out in Character Assassination! This one's the big one, and promises to tie up all the loose ends from the Spider-man books of the last year and a half, and pave the road for the new direction of the character into 2009! Don't miss out! Click here to read more about AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #584!

FACES OF EVIL: DEATHSTROKE GIVES THIS THIRD EYE FAVORITE BAD GUY HIS OWN ONE-SHOT!

If there's one thing we know for sure here at Third Eye, it's that Deathstroke's a badass. Plain and simple. Marvel has the smart-assed Deadpool, and DC has the silent killer Deathstroke. We love 'em both. Whether he's destroying the lives of his own children, infiltrating the Teen Titans with his strange romance with Terra, or taking out the ENTIRE Justice League... Deathstroke is the man. And this week, the biggest FACES OF EVIL one-shot hits the shelves with FACES OF EVIL: DEATHSTROKE! This is ground zero for Deathstroke, as he rebuilds himself from the devastating injuries received in the pages of DCU Last Will and Testament (still in stock here at Third Eye!), this is the perfect jumping on point for any fans of Deathstroke who want to follow where he's going in the New Year.
And don't forget, if you missed FACES OF EVIL GRUNDY or FACES OF EVIL PROMETHEUS , don't sweat it, we've still got them in stock here! The DC Faces of Evil event has been one of the more exciting mini-events we've seen in a bit, and both the Grundy and Prometheus one-shots were excellent reads. And remember, the Prometheus one-shot is a prelude to the new Justice League series starting this year! Click here to read more about FACES OF EVIL DEATHSTROKE!

WARREN ELLIS'S RUINS SHOWS A TWISTED, DISGUSTING MARVEL U.

Ruins came out a while ago, when I was young, and I remember it pretty clearly. It was a reverse of Alex Ross's MARVELS, in the shape that instead of portraying the MARVEL UNIVERSE as this beautiful, and inspiring thing... it was an elseworlds where everything went horribly wrong. The Incredible Hulk was Dr. Banner dying from radiation poisoning, and covered in tumors. Jean Grey was a prostitute. Wolverine's an alcoholic. And the awesome thing about all of this is, it's been almost 12 years that I've been waiting to read the second issue of this series, because I could only find #1 back when I was a kid! This book definitely will be one that stands the test of time, and it's a good look at Warren Ellis (writer of Transmetropolitan, Thunderbolts, Astonishing X-Men, Doktor Sleepless, and so much more) before he became the well-known name he is today. Ruins is a one-shot that collects both issues of this amazing series! Click here to read more about RUINS!

FINAL CRISIS: SUPERMAN BEYOND #2 soars onto racks this week!
3D Comics are USUALLY pretty friggin' lame. There's exceptions, like League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Black Dossier or Action Comics: Lasts Son, but for the most part, they're usually kind of sub-par. Well, Grant Morrison's Final Crisis: Superman Beyond is definitely a comic that deserves the 3D treatment. Completely bizarre in that way that only Morrison can do, this two-parter takes the MAN OF STEEL on a voyage through the entire Multiverse... and yes, you get to see him come head to head with all of those other Supermans too. And in this issue, we're promised the shocking origin of the Monitors! Click here to read more about FINAL CRISIS: SUPERMAN BEYOND #2!

GREEN LANTERN #37 - RAGE OF THE RED LANTERNS CHAPTER 3!!

That says it all right there, folks! The HOTTEST DC storyline of '07 was the Sinestro Corps War (available now in hardcover!), and then stretching out of 2008 into 2009, we get the follow up of RAGE OF THE RED LANTERNS.. and all of this is just one big prelude to the biggest DC event yet to come with this summer's BLACKEST NIGHT! If you've been following GL, then you already know all that I'm gonna say about how DC mastermind Geoff Johns is telling a fantastic story with the Green Lantern books right now, and if you are one of the unlucky few who STILL haven't given Sinestro Corps War a shot (I'm telling you, DC Fan, Marvel Fan, none of that matters... SINESTRO CORPS WAR will win you over! It transcends all of that!), then here's the skinny on Rage of the Red Lanterns.
In the aftermath of Sinestro Corps War, several new Lantern Corps were formed, each color representing an emotion. Red stands for Rage. While we recommend reading the Sinestro Corps War, you can jump on with the FINAL CRISIS RAGE OF THE RED LANTERNS "RAGE OF THE RED LANTERNS CHAPTER 1" available now here at Third Eye, and then to catch up you only need to snag GL #36 and this week's GL #37.
As for the rest of you, it's Chapter 3 of the Red Lanterns, folks! Atrocitus crushes heads, Red Lanterns vomit blood, and do we get to see more of the Cat Lantern? Click here to read more about GREEN LANTERN #37 *RAGE OF THE RED LANTERNS CHAPTER 3*

The WAR OF KINGS has EVERYONE buzzing about this huge galactic throwdown, and this week, we're giving you the scoop on another important tie-in to this big event. Guardians of the Galaxy #8 revealed that Blastarr was the KING OF THE NEGATIVE ZONE, and that prison from CIVIL WAR where all those peeps were held? That's his Kingdom. And this week, in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #9, we get to witness as STARLORD is trapped in the Negative Prison and under assault from KING BLASTAAR! Click here to read more about GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #9!
Meanwhile in the pages of KINGBREAKER #2, the road to WAR OF KINGS becomes more and more clear as Emperor Vulcan continues to expand the Shi'ar Empire.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #583 2ND PRINT OBAMA COVER IN STOCK WEDNESDAY!

Okay, so things are settling down a bit here after the craziness of last week. We want to let everyone know that we will have second prints of the Amazing Spider-man #583 issue with Obama on the cover this week, and then on 1/28/09 (next week), we'll have third prints of Amazing Spider-man #583 with Obama on the cover. This book has been very huge in the media, and has been difficult to keep in stock. So if you'd like to be put on a list for a copy (unless you are already on the list), then shoot me an email so I can take care of that. Right now, I can't guarantee any quantities on the second print, BUT, I can guarantee as many as you'd like on the third print. The reason I bring all this up about quantities is because I know a lot of people have been getting these as gifts, and whatnot. So, there's the skinny on what's going on.

FACES OF EVIL FORECAST FOR 1/21/09!

This week, for FACES OF EVIL, we've got a dastardly rebirth of the Calculator in the pages of BIRDS OF PREY #126 , meanwhile we all get that MUST-READ DEATHSTROKE story in FACES OF EVIL DEATHSTROKE one-shot, GREEN LANTERN #37 features some Red Lantern craziness, and then the war of the Shadow Cabinet continues in JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #29 .
A big one to watch out for this week is ROBIN #182 , which after being horribly scarred, Tim Drake is no longer Robin, but now Red Robin, as in the RED ROBIN from Kingdom Come fame. And then for those of you who were getting your lights knocked out every week by NEW KRYPTON, SUPERGIRL #37 features the mysterious (and maybe sinister?) SUPERWOMAN. And then to round out the bunch, we have the new VIGILANTE #2!

MARVEL NOIR CONTINUES WITH SPIDER-MAN NOIR #2!

The Marvel Noir line has been a smash hit here at Third Eye, and while this series has been selling out most places, you know we've got you guys covered here. This week, the next installment of the dark and creepy Spider-Man Noir hits the racks. Beautiful artwork, and spot-on writing make this bleak new miniseries a great read. Do not miss SPIDER-MAN NOIR #2!

WOLVERINE 70 - OLD MAN LOGAN PT 5 Slices and Dices It's Way Into Third Eye This Week!

The big hit for this week is definitely going to be Wolverine 70, or as we all know it: Old Man Logan Chapter 5. What has clearly been the biggest storyline from this past Summer begins to count down towards tons of big reveals, and epic happenings. It's been long enough since 69 came out to where we can talk spoilers here a little.. and at the end of 69, you know when ol' Logan sat down to begin telling the story of just how the heroes were all wiped out and what changed this world.. well, you know this is the one to read. Yup, folks, all the stuff with 1985, all the stuff with FF, and all the stuff with Old Man Logan, Millar has hinted that we're going to just learn what the heck is going on in this next installment of Wolverine. And, maybe you're late to the party, and haven't heard about Old Man Logan yet.. so let me give you a quick crash course on why this is one of the biggest books of 2008 (and hell, now 2009!)

Picture this, Wolverine is no more, there's only Logan. It's set 50 years in the future, and he hasn't popped his claws in many, many years. America's a wasteland divided into territories, Dr. Doom controls most of it, Hawkeye is 80 years old and blind, the Spider-Buggy is the vehicle of choice (it even climbs up walls!), the Hulk and She-Hulk popped out many a inbred child (and now grandchildren), look.. it's craziness, it's madness, almost all the Marvel superheroes are dead... and you know you want to read this comic. So, next time you're in, just ask Trish or I.. "okay, so where's the first part of Old Man Logan?" and we'll get you hooked up.
And as for everyone else.. IT'S FINALLY OUT. Now, you can all click here for a look at Wolverine 70 OLD MAN LOGAN Chapter 5.

KICK ASS 5 available this Friday @ Third Eye Comics!!

And holy crap, it's another huge book that everyone has been eagerly awaiting! The story of Kick-Ass has hooked everyone, new and veteran readers alike, because it's just so damn.. kick-ass! But seriously, this series by Old Man Logan writer Mark Millar, and master artist John Romita Jr has been the most fun we've had reading comics in 2008. Picture this, you got this 16 year old kid, really into comics, decides to be a superhero... gets his ass kicked so bad he's hospitalized for six months.. he gets out of the hospital, ends up going through it all again, but actually gets in some lucky hits... crowd of on-lookers video tape it on their cell phones, upload it to YouTube, and wham bam, internet celebrity, viral sensation, Kick-Ass, is born... but he's still horrible at what he does. That's where Hit-Girl and Big Daddy come into play... a 10 year old girl and her dad, wielding a katana sword and eviscerating all sorts of people.
Now, does that sound awesome, or what? And if you're already hooked on Kick-Ass, then you're foaming at the mouth for this next issue, and trust me, we feel your pain, folks! But it's here, finally, the next installment of Kick-Ass which shows us the debut of...Kick-Ass's ARCH-NEMESIS! A.K.A the rich kid son of a big time mafia boss... oh, just read it, you know it's gonna be made of win. Click here to read a preview of Kick-Ass 5!

INCOGNITO 1 - BRAND NEW SERIES FROM CRIMINAL CREATIVE TEAM ED BRUBAKER (writer of Captain America, DD: Lady Bullseye, and more) AND SEAN PHILLIPS - THIS IS THE SICKEST SUPER-VILLAIN COMIC YOU WILL READ ALL YEAR!

Incognito is a book that I feel you guys need to be aware of. It's going to be awesome. I've read the first 8 pages, and I absolutely positively think that this is some lightning in a bottle magic. Brubaker, the writer of such landmark stuff as the Death of Captain America, Gotham Central, Daredevil: Lady Bullseye, and Uncanny X-Men: Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire, is penning it, and his partner Sean Phillips, the man behind Marvel Zombies and Criminal, will be doing the artwork. This is dark, bleak stuff, folks. Brubaker's calling it Super-Noir, since it's basically a modern day noir-influenced tale all about superheroes.
And, just what the heck is Incognito all about? It's the story of a super-villain who's forced into a life of being a normal, honest human being. A super-villain who's in the Witness Protection program, and spends every day of his office job wanting to melt the skin from his co-worker's bones. Just watch as the cracks begin to show, and wait as we watch for him to slowly self-destruct, and you know it'll happen. The book looks awesome, and will be released under the same Marvel ICON imprint as KICK ASS. Its something a little different, and it doesn't have the huge hype machine behind it that a lot of the bigger heavyweights do, but I have a lot of faith in this, and I really hope you guys give it a shot. I like to see good comics do well.
And hey, ontop of all that, in the tradition of their series Criminal, you get more bang for your buck than any comic out there... $3.50, NO ADS, and extra content in the back.. how can you go wrong? Click here to read a preview of Incognito 1!

DARK REIGN FORECAST FOR THIS WEEK! WAR MACHINE 1 , & AVENGERS INITIATIVE 20

Here's your Dark Reign forecast for the week of 1/2/09, and we got a couple of whoppers for you. The first of which is the highly anticipated War Machine ongoing series that begins this week. Lets face it, War Machine is one of the coolest friggin' Marvel characters to come out of the 80s and 90s. He's got rocket launchers on his shoulders! And we mean that in a good way (not in the early '90s Image comics kind of way)! Definitely one of the most interesting characters to come to the forefront of things with Dark Reign, and the fact that Tony Stark's now a wanted fugitive, Jim Rhodes has everyone itchin to see where his new War Machine series is going to go. Written by the master storyteller behind PLANET HULK, Greg Pak, and pencilled by the amazing Leonard Manco (it's been a while since we've seen him do some work, but the pages I've seen from War Machine look outrageous), War Machine 1 definitely looks to be a hot pick for the new crop of Dark Reign stuff!
And hot on the heels of War Machine, we get Avengers the Initiative 2 0, which promises to reveal what will happen to the Initiative (considering it was so integral in the Skrull's plans), and watch as four key Initiative members move onto four major Marvel ongoing series.

Following the well-received Final Crisis: RAGE OF THE RED LANTERNS one-shot (which was part one of the Red Lanterns saga), is the next installment in the Rage of the Red Lanterns story.. and it's finally here! We know it took a little longer for Green Lantern 36 to come out, but now all of you who were itching for more Red Lantern action, and are curious about just where things are building to with Blackest Night... well you don't have to wait anymore, cause it's here! Green Lantern 36 gives us the first official chapter of the Rage of the Red Lanterns in the regular GL series, or if you want, the second chapter in the Rage of the Red Lanterns (if you count the one-shot). And hey, if you missed out on the one-shot, don't worry, we gots plenty of 'em here at Third Eye.
Just what is Rage of the Red Lanterns about? The Red Lanterns, fueled by well.. RAGE... want only one thing: to brutally kill Sinestro, and of course, anyone who stands in their way. So Hal and the gang have to go head to head with Atrocitus and all his fellow Red Lanterns in this issue, and what's this... now the Orange Lanterns begin to surface? Click here to read more about Green Lantern 36!

BACK TO BROOKLYN 3 brings us the next issue in Garth Ennis's (Writer of the Boys) ultraviolent Mafia saga!

If there's one thing we know here at Third Eye... it's that Garth Ennis can write a fine comic! Everyone is loving the man's run on the Boys, you've dug his excellent take on the Punisher, and Preacher is a modern classic, for sure... not to mention all the great current stuff like Crossed that he puts out... lets face it, we're all about Ennis the Menace here at Third Eye. And this week, we get the third installment of his ultra-violent, kick in the teeth mafia comic Back To Brooklyn. When you're a wiseguy, and a huge mob war is about to break out between the different gangs in your hood, what'd you do to get your family safe? You go to the cops, right? Well, what if all the cops end up getting waxed, and that doesn't do it? You convince the cops to let you go in yourself, and that's exactly what happens. Now, EVERYONE wants to kill you, and you're just trying to get your wife and kids back... add in lots of blood, some trademark Ennis screwed-upness, and of course, all the well-paced storytelling and snappy dialogue that mister Ennis is known for, and you got yourself one heck of a good read. For those of you who haven't read it, here's a preview of issue 1!

KEVIN SMITH'S BATMAN CACOPHONY 2 hits the shelves this week!

OMG WTF! A Kevin Smith book that's on time?? See, we told you guys! We know his track record has burned a few of you before (spidermanblackcatcoughcoughdaredeviltargetcoughcough), but, lets face it, we love Kevin Smith. We love his flicks, and we love his comics. The man is a true fan, and you can definitely see it in project he does. And after having read Cacophony 1, we're hooked. His humorous take on characters like Deadshot and the Joker, along with the return of his fan-favorite Green Arrow villain Onmonopea (or however you spell it!), makes this three issue mini-series a must-read. And by god, he's getting it out on time! I'm impressed. I'll admit I was a little skeptical at first too, but hey.. I like to be proven wrong, especially when it means I can get a good comic quicker! Click here to read more about Batman: Cacophony 2!

FINAL CRISIS: SECRET FILES REVEALS THE GRIM SECRETS OF DARKSEID, AND THE INNER WORKINGS OF GRANT MORRISON'S INTRICATE STORYLINE!

Why are we making a big deal out of what's basically a handbook? Because if there's ANY series that needs a friggin' handbook, it's Final Crisis. I mean, don't get me wrong, we're loving it! Grant Morrison's arcane storytelling, and the sense of mystery and excitement he's built into this book have made us huge fans, and after issue 5, we're so damn hooked it's not even funny. But, lets be real, folks... THERE'S A LOT GOING ON HERE! And this Final Crisis: Secret Files one-shot is here to help make sense of some of the going ons of this amazing event book.
So, if there's certain aspects or characters you wanna learn more about, then this one-shot is the perfect resource to go to. I know I'm gonna be reading this thing from cover to cover! Click here to read more about Final Crisis Secret Files!

We're all digging the heck out of this New Krypton stuff, and this week's latest installment (Chapter 9) will be taking place in the pages of Superman 683. This is the big one, folks, thousands of enraged
Kryptonians lashing out against humanity, and only one Superman to stop them!

ULTIMATE HULK ANNUAL featuring Ed McGuiness Art Out This Week!

I'm personally a story kind of guy. I follow writers, I can appreciate good art, and I have some favorites, but it's a super well-written story that gets me hooked... and that being the case, it's rare that I'll read a book strictly based on an artist's name alone. There are some artists out there who just pull me in though, and Ed McGuiness is one of those. I will read ANYTHING this guy does because it is ALWAYS so full of awesomeness it's not even funny. And what does McGuiness do best? BIG. And who's bigger than the Hulk? Especially the people-eating, beer-swilling, hippie-bashing Ultimate Hulk. This Ultimatum Tie-In gives us Ultimate Hulk being his usual bad-ass self, Zarda (remember her from the Squadron Supreme world?) being her usual death goddess self.. and hey, Ultimate Captain America too! All we know is that the one-two punch of two awesome artists like Ed McGuiness and Marko Djurdevic make this one something we have got to check out this week. Click here to read more about Ultimate Hulk Annual 1!

FANTASTIC FOUR 562 : is this the threat from 1985?

Ultimates creative team Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch have made Fantastic Four a big time must read, and their last story arc, the Death of the Invisible Woman has set up a lot of interesting things. Basically, Fantastic Four ,1985 (which if you haven't read yet, PICK IT UP!), and Old Man Logan are all tied together according to Millar..and in this issue, we get to see the funeral for the Invisible Woman from... the future of Old Man Logan. And, Marvel even rumored maybe a threat from the world of 1985!? We'll see this week, I guess! Click here to read more about Fantastic Four 562!
