FLASH #10 - THE PRELUDE TO FLASHPOINT ARRIVES - FIND OUT WHY FLASHPOINT IS GOING TO BE THE RADDEST THING DC'S DONE SINCE BLACKEST NIGHT! IMAGINE "AGE OF APOCALYPSE" in the DC UNIVERSE! Okay, there's a lot of reasons to be excited about Flashpoint. A LOT. I mean, the fact that Geoff Johns (writer of BLACKEST NIGHT, GREEN LANTERN, BRIGHTEST DAY) is the man behind this one is a pretty big one of those reasons. And, then there's the fact that this is a DC event, and we all know how good of a track record DC has in delivering on their events (see: BLACKEST NIGHT, which was awesome). But, more than any other reason, there's one simple thing that makes me think that FLASHPOINT is going to be the coolest of the cool: this story is essentially DC Comics doing the AGE OF APOCALYPSE, and folks, that's just too cool. What's that mean? Well, Age of Apocalypse was a really cool Marvel story back in the day where Professor X was killed back in the past by Legion, and it totally changed the course of history into a world where Apocalypse ran things, and Magneto led the X-Men. It may sound pretty standard nowadays, but back in the day: that was a freakin' big deal. And, with Flashpoint, there's a very similar feel to what Geoff Johns and company have planned. The story of Flashpoint is, in a nutshell, about the Reverse Flash doing something that completely screws up the timestream in the past, and changes the course of history for the entire DC UNIVERSE. This means things like Superman's shuttle landing on Earth, Batman's parents dying, and Abin Sur passing his ring to Hal Jordan... NEVER HAPPEN. And, you can probably imagine that this leaves the DC Universe as a much different place than what we know of it now. While some of the characters look to be in similar costumes to their current incarnations, there are others who seem drastically different. Now, the actual details of Flashpoint, DC has been very hush-hush on, 'cause lets face it: we wanna be surprised. And, while there are a few things they've let me in on about the series that I can't let out, I will say this: you guys are gonna be impressed. And, you'll love the Flashpoint Joker. :) I'm really stoked about this event, and the whole idea that it's going to have ramifications on the entire DCU, and it's continuity, is pretty freakin' cool. Now, you're probably wondering where to start as far as FLASHPOINT goes? Well, if you want to get prepped, I'd recommend snagging FLASH #9 and this week's FLASH #10, which are the preludes to the series. This will get you good and caught up for FLASHPOINT #1. If you want some background on the Reverse Flash, or Barry Allen's return, I'd recommend snagging FLASH #8 for Reverse Flash's origin, and then the FLASH REBIRTH and FLASH DASTARDLY DEATH OF THE ROGUES hardcovers. This'll get you the full scoop on Geoff Johns's recent revival of Barry Allen. Click here for our official THIRD EYE FLASHPOINT Checklist AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #658 *FF TIE-IN* - Welcome to the Future Foundation, Spidey! We've been BIG fans of Amazing Spider-man since Dan Slott took on as the regular writer of the series with his BIG TIME arc in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #648. And, things have only gotten better since ASM #657 from a couple weeks ago which showed us the wake for the Human Torch, and Spidey joining the team. Now, we're stoked to see things moving forward again, as this special issue of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN spotlights Peter and his work with the Future Foundation, as the Sinister Six begins to hone in on the sense of liability Peter may be in regards to the new FF. We also get to learn some of the ins and outs of Spidey's new costume, that he was given as a member of the FF. This is a great opportunity to find out just how Spidey's gotten in the last few months, folks, so pick up AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #658, and find out just how awesome the comic goodness Slott's been serving up is. Missed AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #657 *FF TIE-IN*? We've still got copies in stock and available to get you caught up. Click here for a preview of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #658 *FF TIE-IN* INFINITE VACATION #2 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY FROM "MORNING GLORIES" writer NICK SPENCER! MISSED #1? WE'VE GOT COPIES IN STOCK TO GET YOU CAUGHT UP! FIND OUT WHY WE LOVE THIS KILLER NEW SERIES THAT READS LIKE A MIX OF "BLADE RUNNER", "INCEPTION", and "OFFICE SPACE" Nick Spencer is one of the most talented up and coming comics writers working in the field right now. He has blown us away with his work on the series MORNING GLORIES (also from Image), and continues to impress us with his work on other titles like THUNDER AGENTS, and IRON MAN 2.0. But, man, Infinite Vacation really blew us away. And, now, this Wednesday, the highly anticipated second issue of Infinite Vacation arrives, and folks: we are stoked. For those of you who might not be in the know about Infinite Vacation, allow us to give you the rundown. Infinite Vacation is a story about an alternate reality app/game that allows the user to buy, sell, and trade alternate virtual lives. The higher their credit score, and bank account balance, the more appealing and exciting the alternate life is. So, now, picture this: our hero, has sunk loads of time, and loads of money into living out every possible variation of his life through Infinite Vacation. And, they always bring him to the same end result: bored, and miserable. And, then one day, he finds a version of himself that got it right, and before he can figure out what that version's secret was, that version ends up murdered. And, so begins the mystery that makes Infinite Vacation so damn interesting. One part murder mystery, one part cyberpunky sci-fi, and then a whole lotta influence from stuff like THE OFFICE, and Office Space, this is a damn good book, Third Eye Faithful. We highly recommend snagging the first issue, and the second this week if you haven't already read the series, 'cause if you just read the first, you're gonna be hooked and want more right away. For those of you who've already read this one, we know we'll be seeing you on Wednesday. :) THE REIGN OF DOOMSDAY COMES THUNDERING DOWN ON CONNOR KENT IN SUPERBOY #6 *REIGN OF DOOMSDAY CHAPTER 5* THIS WEDNESDAY I gotta tell ya, Third Eye Faithful, I'm really enjoying the REIGN OF DOOMSDAY crossover that's been running through a few different DC books for the last couple of months. It's a nice, tightly-wound, self-contained crossover that brings a high level of excitement and energy without attempting to be too big and too epic. However, we can sense there's something that is ultimately epic fueling this crossover, and we think it's going to all kick-off in ACTION COMICS #900 when Doomsday, Lex with the Black Ring, and a recently returned Supes all come face to face. In the meantime though, we're watching as things continue to build, and we've never been more stoked. See, Doomsday, the beast responsible for putting Superman down almost two decades ago, has recently returned, and he's been carving a path through the original Supermen. That's right, starting with STEEL, and then moving forward onto the Eradicator and Cyborg Superman, Doomsday has been on a mission, and that mission has brought him face to face with one of our favorites: Connor Kent, aka Superboy. We are stoked for this one, folks, and not just cause we've been digging Reign of Doomsday, but because we're also huge fans of Jeff Lemire's current run on the Superboy ongoing series. The writer of SWEET TOOTH brings his very unique style to the world of Smallville and Connor Kent, and manages to use his knack for telling solid stories against the backdrop of rural weirdness in a very, very skillful way. Wanna get caught up on the REIGN OF DOOMSDAY? We've got all the previous chapters in stock, and available now, so pop on by and snag the first few and catch up to this week's Chapter 5 in SUPERBOY #6. Click here to read the official THIRD EYE REIGN OF DOOMSDAY Checklist JONATHAN HICKMAN'S HISTORY-TWISTING SUPERHERO EPIC CONTINUES IN THIS WEDNESDAY'S SHIELD: INFINITY ONE-SHOT Now, this Wednesday, Hickman returns to SHIELD with this one-shot that shows us the miraculous designs of his Da Vinci, the lies, truths and half-truths of Isaac Newton, and the predictions of Nostradamus. See, Third Eye Faithful, in SHIELD these were the original defenders of the Marvel Universe. These were the guys who fended off the Celestials, the Brood, and Galactus before the Avengers and the Fantastic Four existed. And, this is what makes Hickman's work so compelling. The near-laborious detail that he applies to mixing the realms of history, and the realms of fiction into one larger, interesting story set against the backdrop of the Marvel Universe. Trust us, seeing Leonardo Da Vinci staring down Galactus reminds you of just how incredible a place the Marvel Universe can be. Wanna give SHIELD a shot? This one shot is a nice self-contained look at the world of SHIELD, or you can go back and catch up on the series, as we have all of the back issues of the original 6 issue limited series from last year in stock and available now. Click here for a preview of SHIELD INFINITY BUTCHER BAKER: THE RIGHTEOUS MAKER #2 - Imagine if THE COMEDIAN from WATCHMEN had his own series... it would be this amazing, over-the-top hit new Image book! Missed issue #1? We've got copies in stock to get you hooked up! Image has been right on point for 2011, folks. Loads of kick-ass new series, and they've delivered in a big way with each and every one. This week, we get the second issue of BUTCHER BAKER, RIIGHTEOUS MAKER, which is one of my own personal favorite new Image books.. 'cause lets face it, I love seeing whacked out takes on the superhero genre. While it's already been mentioned that this is one of the crop of books that have been the Image buzz books, and is commanding a slight premium on the back-market, lets look past all of that, and talk about one simple thing: how awesome of a read this series is. Butcher Baker is the story of a former "Patriotic"-themed Superhero, very much in the vein of The Comedian from WATCHMEN. He's retired, spends his days in debauchery, drinks a lot, smokes a lot, and really has no desire to re-enter the superhero game. And, then Dick Cheney and Jay Leno approach him with one last job, and the fun begins anew. This book is raunchy, over-the-top, and violent as all get out, and we freakin' love it! Mike Huddleston brings a very cool Bill Sienciewicz (I know I misspelled that, sorry Bill!) type vibe to the art, and Casey is on his A-Game writing some of the funniest, darkest superhero comics since we first saw THE BOYS launch. If you're a fan of series like THE BOYS, or even darker takes on capes like IRREDEEMABLE and WATCHMEN, you need to snag a copy of this book and see what all the fuss is about. The most twisted superhero epic of the 21st century. Missed issue #1? We've got copies in stock to get you caught up! BATMAN AND ROBIN #22 - THE CONCLUSION TO THE FIRST 3-ISSUE ARC BY NEW BATMAN AND ROBIN CREATIVE TEAM PETER TOMASI & PATRICK GLEASON - THE BEST BATMAN AND ROBIN HAS BEEN SINCE MORRISON & QUITELY'S FIRST ARC! Snag issue 20 and 21, and Get Caught Up! Okay, so Paul Cornell's run that preceded this (you know the one with the chick with the hole in her head) was a bit flat. And, we LOVE Paul Cornell's stuff, but you know, sometimes you don't hit 'em all out of the park. HOWEVER, Tomasi and Gleason have turned this book into one of the most enjoyable Bat-books on the stands when they came on with issue #20. Gleason's art is perfect on this, crisp, detailed, and dynamic, and brings a very cool feel to the world of Gotham City. Tomasi slips into the title like he was born to write the characters, and manages to follow up Morrison quite well, keeping the same Weird Tales-esque tone but not losing the sense of bigger-than-life superheroics. The story has centered around a mysterious new character named the White Knight who has been executing the family and loved ones of various Batman Rogues. No one seems to really "get" the character of Dick Grayson as Batman like Tomasi does, and it shows in this one. You can tell he has an affection for Nightwing, and thinking back to the killer run he had on the character, it's even more obvious. We're loving BATMAN AND ROBIN, and we suggest you jump onto this run, starting with issue #20, and catch up to this week's #22. HELLBOY: BUSTER OAKLEY GETS HIS WISH #1 - A GREAT ONE-SHOT ISSUE THAT GIVES YOU THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO FIND OUT HOW AWESOME HELLBOY IS! NEVER READ HELLBOY BEFORE? TRY THE SERIES OUT WITH THIS ISSUE! We love Hellboy here at Third Eye. Seriously. The perfect blend of pulp hero awesomeness, quirky humor, and ridiculously detailed and creepy occult stylings make Hellboy into one of the most compelling characters on the stands. Mignola always delivers a great read with the world of Hellboy and BPRD, and the artists he often chooses to illustrate this world are top notch. This Wednesday, Dark Horse is unleashing the HELLBOY: BUSTER OAKLEY GETS HIS WISH one-shot, which is a great, self-contained story that is PERFECT for readers that're new to Hellboy to jump on board with. This kick-ass tale, illustrated by the master of atmospheric, macabre superhero art Kevin Nowlan, shows us Hellboy being sucked into a giant spacecraft full of mutated livestock. So, what's he gotta do? He's gotta punch, and pummel his way through giant robots, strange techno-organic webbing, and evil aliens to get back to the planet Earth. You wanna see an example of why we love Hellboy? Buster Oakley is it. Snag yourself a copy this Wednesday, and give it a shot! JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #622 *FEAR ITSELF TIE-IN* - FEAR ITSELF CASTS IT'S SHADOW ON ASGARD, AS THOR BECOMES JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY WITH JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #622 Loki has returned, and the mystery surrounding his death is about to be revealed. What can the Trickster God be up to this time, and how is it going to affect Thor? And, what side of the fence does Loki fall on in regards to the emergence of SKADI. With critically-acclaimed up and comer Kieron Gillen handling the writing chores on this one, we're sure it's going to be a stellar read, and Doug Braithwaite's artwork looks AMAZING. Plus, after the awesomeness that was last week's FEAR ITSELF #1, we CANNOT wait to get more FEAR ITSELF goodness. Click here for a preview of JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #622 *FEAR ITSELF TIE-IN* GI JOE #0 - THE COBRA CIVIL WAR BEGINS THIS WEDNESDAY IN THE MOST KICK-ASS LOOKING GI JOE COMIC WE'VE SEEN IN AGES! Cobra Commander is DEAD! Who Will Take His Place? As a child of the '80s, I gotta give props to GI JOE. I always had more GI JOES than I did Transformers as a kid, 'cause lets face it: Transformers were MAD expensive. And, GI JOES, heck, you could get 4 of those bad boys for the price of one Autobot. So, needless to say, I've got a soft spot for the world of GI JOE. This Wednesday, IDW pumps some serious new life into the GI JOE line of comics with a fresh start, and a brand new storyline called COBRA CIVIL WAR. The GI JOE series is re-starting at #0, and in it, we're getting what looks to be the most kick-ass GI JOE story in a very long time. Cobra Commander is dead, and the big question is: Who will be the next Cobra Commander? The role of Commander must be filled -- now the most lethal and cunning Cobra operatives will compete for command. The winner? He who kills the most GI JOES. And, guess what else? Remember the NINJA FORCE? They're showing up for this party. How awesome is that? This isn't the GI JOE you remember, Third Eye Faithful. Gritty, and intense, this is some of the most promising stuff coming out of IDW this summer. Click here for a preview of GI JOE COBRA CIVIL WAR #0 JUSTICE LEAGUE: GENERATION LOST VOL 1 HARDCOVER HITS THIS WEDNESDAY - LOVED GIFFEN AND MAGUIRE'S JUSTICE LEAGUE and JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL? YOU NEED TO READ THIS! Man, I know a lot of you guys have been eagerly awaiting the JL Gen Lost hardcover, and trust me, I'm super stoked to see it arrive this week as well. Justice League Generation Lost is a BRIGHTEST DAY-related storyline that's a total of 26 issues, and brings back the much-beloved Justice League International line-up. Many of you, like myself, have fond memories of Giffen and DeMatteis's work on these characters, and folks, I'll tell ya now: Winick does a great job of staying true to it. What's it all about? Well, mind-controlling mastermind Maxwell Lord, who was resurrected in the aftermath of BRIGHTEST DAY, is targeting the members of the defunct JLI, and now, surviving members Booster Gold, Captain Atom, Fire and Ice must stop him from destroying the entire superhero community. See, Lord (in BRIGHTEST DAY #0), convinced the entire DCU that he didn't exist in a taxing mental feat... except, he could not brainwash the members of JLI. From there, we're treated to one of the best runs of 2010, and folks, if you're a DCU fan, you'll love this one. Snag this mammoth hardcover collecting the first 12 issues of JL: Generation Lost this Wednesday! CARBON GREY #2 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY DELIVERING MORE STEAMPUNK ASSASSIN AWESOMENESS FROM IMAGE COMICS! Missed #1? We've got more copies back in stock this Wednesday! This gorgeous-looking comic hit the shelves of Third Eye last month, and totally floored us with how awesome it turned out to be. We're suckers for stories that have that steampunk aesthetic to them, and Carbon Grey most definitely has that. On top of that, the artwork is AMAZING, and the storytelling is very very solid in this one. Now, this Wednesday, the second issue hits, and alongside it, we'll be getting in more copies of the sold-out CARBON GREY #1. If you're a fan of recent steampunk series like LADY MECHANIKA, and FREAKANGELS, we highly recommend snagging CARBON GREY. Or heck, if you're just digging all the kick-ass new series Image has been launching, we think you'll dig this one. What's CARBON GREY all about? A noble family has twins, Mathilde and Giselle, the Sisters Grey. For generations, the Sisters have protected and counseled the Kaiser, ruler of Mitteleuropa. But this is a different time. At the birth of the industrial age a great war is raging. When the Kaiser is assassinated Giselle is accused. Pursued by her sisters and hunted by the enemy Giselle must unravel the prophecy of CARBON GREY before history itself is written. Short version: It's got awesome art, kick-ass girls wielding giant swords, and flying crazy bomber airships. You'll love it. BOOKS WE LOOOOOOVE: UNCANNY X-FORCE #7 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY! REMENDER CONTINUES TO IMPRESS THE HECK OUT OF US ON THIS ONE! DEATHLOK NATION Chapter 3! Folks, we love UNCANNY X-FORCE, seriously. It's quite possibly the best X-Book being made right now, and continues to get better. And, with a storyline on the horizon that takes the team into the alternate AGE OF APOCALYPSE future.... things are only going to look better, and better in this one. Remender just gets it, and just like in his first issue of VENOM, he brings a sense of snap, and innovation to characters that've earned their way into being fan-favorites. Heck, his Deadpool has some of the best lines we've seen from the Merc with a Mouth since Joe Kelly's run on the character way back in the day. And, this Wednesday, the story continues as the hordes of the Deathlok Nation continue to flood into our world, intent on killing Fantomex, and protecting the super soldier production facility known as the World... but, the question is: Why? And, who is Weapon Infinity? Wanna jump onto UNCANNY X-FORCE? We recommend either grabbing the hardcover collecting issues #1-4 this Wednesday, or snagging the .1 issue of UNCANNY X-FORCE #5.1, and then catching up to this week's #7 from there. Click here for a preview of UNCANNY X-FORCE #7 UNCANNY X-FORCE: THE APOCALYPSE SOLUTION HC hits this Wednesday, collecting UNCANNY X-FORCE 1-4, as well as some extra bonus material Okay, so you just heard us ranting, and raving about UNCANNY X-FORCE. Snag this killer hardcover of the first story arc by Rick Remender and Jerome Opena for just $20, and hop on board to the monthly from there, and find out what you've been missing! Anyways, the virtuosos at Bongo who're responsible for keeping the Simpsons and Futurama lines kicking for many years are now behind the new Spongebob Comics series, and it's awesome. This has been some of the best storytelling set in the Ultimate Universe since the very beginning of Bendis and Millar's runs on Spidey and the Ultimates. And, let me tell you, folks: it's awesome to see Bagely back on Ultimate Spidey. If you've fell out of the Ultimate loop in the last few years, we really recommend coming back for this arc, as it's been kick-ass. We've got all the chapters in stock, as well as the prelude issues, so catching up is easy. And, while I can't say much, I'll say this: both of these issues deliver in a BIG way this week. Just like Johnny the Homicidal Maniac brought a killer dose of humor, and satire to the world of goths, and other eyeliner-obsessed kids, Li'l Depressed Boy brings the same kind of humor to the world of lo-fi indie rock, and basement shows. And, it's really, really funny. :) We love it. Missed issues 1 and 2? You should check 'em out this Wednesday, and snag a copy of #3 while you're at it. NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD ANNUAL 2011 - ZOMBIES VS. ALLIGATORS? AVATAR PRESS SERVES UP ANOTHER HEAPING HELPING OF NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD AWESOMENESS IN THIS ONE-SHOT You know that we're long-time gorehounds here at Third Eye, and we're also big fans of Avatar Press's offerings, so when you take the world of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, and then add the no-holds-barred approach of AVATAR PRESS, we're pretty much sold. And, it looks like this Wednesday, we can add another guilty pleasure to our collections with Avatar Press's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD ANNUAL 2011. Mike Wolfer, the man who's done all the really killer NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD stuff for AVATAR, returns with an all-new gore-filled tale of zombie mayhem. When the contagion began in rural America, we were instructed to flee to the cities. When the cities became inundated, they became death traps. Nowhere was safe, and then there was nowhere to run to escape the living dead. Now, the fight for life is reduced to desperation, as a group of refugees cligs to the hope that sanctuary lies deep in the alligator-infested bayous of Louisiana. Folks, it's gators vs. zombies, with a buncha people in the middle of it all. And, it's gonna be ridiculous! Nick Spencer (writer of MORNING GLORIES & INFINITE VACATION) continues to innovate with the new War Machine series, IRON MAN 2.0, in IRON MAN 2.0 #3 this Wednesday! Missed 1 & 2? We've got copies in stock to catch you up! Okay, you caught us. We're big Nick Spencer fans. We can't help it. The man can write, no doubt. And, we're totally hooked on his fresh new take on a long-time favorite character of our's: WAR MACHINE. Spinning straight from the pages of Matt Fraction's incredible INVINCIBLE IRON MAN run, IRON MAN 2.0 brings us the mission by James Rhodes and Tony Stark to create the all-new War Machine suit. Rhodey's new mission already nearly killed him, and a deadly new supervillain poses a threat that War Machine can't fight... and to stay alive, he's going to have to step up the concept of War Machine to 11. Action-packed, and techy as all get out, Nick Spencer brings his unique futurist-influence of storytelling to the world of Iron Man 2.0, and combined with Barry Kitson's crisp, and compelling artwork, the two really deliver a solid read. Missed issues 1 and 2? We've got copies in stock and available to catch you up. Click here for a preview of IRON MAN 2.0 #3 ESCAPE FROM THE NEGATIVE ZONE CHAPTER 2 CONTINUES FROM LAST MONTH'S UNCANNY X-MEN ANNUAL INTO STEVE ROGERS SUPER SOLDIER ANNUAL #1 - LOOK AT THE PREVIEW FOR THIS ONE... AMAZING ARTWORK! I don't know what Marvel's plan is on these Annuals, but whatever they're doing this year: they're freakin' knocking it out of the park. The artwork on last month's UNCANNY X-MEN ANNUAL (in stock now) was AMAZING, and very reminiscent of Art Adams. And, now looking at preview pages of this week's STEVE ROGER SUPER SOLDIER, this one not only reads just as well as the UNCANNY annual, but the art is just as freakin' good. This one picks up the story that began in UNCANNY annual, ESCAPE FROM THE NEGATIVE ZONE, which brings together the X-Men, Steve Rogers, and Namor in a big ol shebang with Blastaar. But, of course, there's a lot more to it than just Blastaar, and the X-Men being imprisoned in the Negative Zone. Just check out the link, and look at the art on the preview pages, folks.. .this is a really solid looking book. Missed the Uncanny annual? We've got copies in stock to get you caught up. Click here for a preview of STEVE ROGERS SUPER SOLDIER ANNUAL #1 THOR BY WALT SIMONSON OMNIBUS - 1,192 PAGES OF THOR AWESOMENESS. THE BEST THOR RUN. EVER. COLLECTED IN ONE MASSIVE TOME. A MUST! The Walt Simonson run of Thor is considered to be one of the single best runs on a comic. Ever. And, it's most definitely regarded as the BEST Thor run of all-time. And, you know what, Third Eye Faithful? It's true. This is one of those classic runs (ala Stan and Jack on FF, Byrne and Claremont on X-Men, and O'Neil and Adams on Batman) that not only stands the test of time, but even gets better with age. It's rare to see comics that do that, and we are so stoked to see this amazing omnibus treatment that's been given to one of the most incredible Thor runs of all-time. Nearly 1,200 pages, this collects Simonson's entire run, issues 337-355, 357-369, and 371-382, as well as the Balder the Brave limited series. All collected in the proper reading order which they came out. The art looks incredible, the story is iconic, if there was ever a book you wanted to own in omnibus format, this is it. We'll have copies available this Wednesday at Third Eye, so snag yourself one if you consider yourself a huge fan of the Simsonson THOR stuff. THE AGE OF X CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY IN X-MEN LEGACY #247 - FIND OUT WHY THIS ALTERNATE HISTORY STORYLINE SET IN A WORLD WHERE THE X-MEN NEVER EXISTED IS ONE OF OUR CURRENT FAVORITES! Marvel continues to keep us impressed with their AGE OF X storyline, which harkens back to the AGE OF APOCALYPSE storyline from way back in the day. In this crossover that's running between XMEN LEGACY and NEW MUTANTS, we're shown an in-continuity alternate reality where the X-Men never formed, and as such, mutants are pretty much endangered, and nearly non-existent. It's fascinating to see the different paths the characters lives have taken, and as the mystery of how the regular 616 Marvel U and the AGE OF X universe connects continues to unravel and keep us interested. Wanna hop on board this one? We've got all the chapters in stock to catch you up. Click here for the official THIRD EYE AGE OF X CHECKLIST Click here for the X-MEN LEGACY #247 *AGE OF X CHAPTER 5* Preview THIRD EYE STAFF PICKS Steve - FEAR ITSELF #1 - Loved it. Action-packed, incredible artwork, and without giving out too many spoilers, a very satisfying moment in regards to Thor and the Asgardians. Plus, Odin yells at the Watcher like a cranky old man. Trish - NONPLAYER #1 - Oh my god. The art in this book is amazing, and the story is great. This is the best Image debut since last year's MORNING GLORIES #1. I loved it. TORMA - HERC #1 - If you're not reading Pak and Van Lente's HERCULES stuff, you're missing out. A perfect blend of humor, and smash 'em up old school Marvel awesome. This new series looks to be the best yet. Tony (Prince Frederick) FEAR ITSELF #1 - I know Steve likes to try to mix everyone's up but I had to pick this. I am a major Thor fan, and it was great seeing him get some props here. And it was just a great issue. It does look like this could be the biggest Marvel story since CIVIL WAR. |

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE FOR WEDNESDAY 1/12/10
NICK SPENCER, writer of MORNING GLORIES, debuts his next big IMAGE COMICS hit series with INFINITE VACATION #1 this WEDNESDAY
Welcome to Infinite Vacation, Where Changing Your Life Is Just One Click Away
If there's been one writer who's really broke out and surprised us in 2010 here at Third Eye, it's Nick Spencer. He caught our attention first with Forgetless, and then he blew us, and the rest of the comics industry away with his runaway hit MORNING GLORIES. And now, Mr. Spencer, is going to set the shelves of Third Eye on fire all over again with his killer new IMAGE series, INFINITE VACATION, which we can already go on record as saying is awesome.
And, as a word of advice, just like MORNING GLORIES, we'd recommend jumping on with this one early with issue #1, and snagging a copy this week, as we all know how low Image's print runs are, and how their books usually tend up being a bit pricey once the first prints are gone.
What is INFINITE VACATION? Infinite Vacation is the story of a young man named Mark, who lives in a world where alternate realities are up for sale, and buying and trading your way through unlimited variations of yourself is as commonplace as checking your email or updating your Facebook status.
But, when other versions of Mark start dying suddenly, and he stumbles upon a mysterious girl who wants nothing to do with his "life-changing", he learns the truth about the universe he's stumbling through, and what happens when your vacation turns on you.
Basically, it's a mix of something like FIGHT CLUB, and trippy sci-fi in the vein of BLADE RUNNER. People trading their regular identities for the escapist fantasy identities they wish they had. In the world of INFINITE VACATION, you can be the hero action star that busts the serial murderer. You can be the Tony Soprano, the Don Draper, or the Bruce Wayne, of your choice. Of course, it's important to keep your name tag on, because if you don't you could end up living out a nightmare instead of a fantasy. The name tag is how they know you, where you're from, and where you belong. Your credit rating, and disposable income are all that stand between you being the hero, and being the villain.
I'm sorry, folks, but this sounds awesome. I read an extended preview of the first issue, and the art is great, and the story reads well. If you're a fan of Spencer's previous work on stuff like MORNING GLORIES, FORGETLESS and THUNDER AGENTS, you're going to love INFINITE VACATION.
Check out issue #1 this Wednesday at here at Third Eye, and find out what we're so jazzed about.
BLACK PANTHER MAN WITHOUT FEAR #514- THIS COMIC ROCKS! DAVID LISS AND FRANCESCO FRANCAVILLA HAVE HIT A MAJOR HOMERUN WITH THE CURRENT INCARNATION OF THE BLACK PANTHER
Dude, I was totally blown away by the new BLACK PANTHER series that began last month in BLACK PANTHER MAN WITHOUT FEAR #513 (still in stock and available here at Third Eye). REALLY good stuff. Liss writes the character perfectly, and the new setting of Hell's Kitchen (post-Shadowland) really sets up for some interesting story potential for T'Challa. But the real star on this one, folks, is Francesco Francavilla, who's artwork brings a moody, atmospheric pulp fiction noir feel to the world of Hell's Kitchen and the Black Panther. I think he might be one of my favorite new artists to spring onto the scene this year. Between his work here on Black Panther, and then his work on the Jim Gordon back-up in DETECTIVE COMICS, he's really showing potential as an artist who's set to explode in popularity.
The first issue of BLACK PANTHER MAN WITHOUT FEAR took T'Challa back to basics, no kingdom, no extensive technology, just him and his fists, breaking the faces of Hell's Kitchen bad guys, and showing everyone that just because ol' Daredevil is gone, doesn't mean Hell's Kitchen has been left unprotected. The book has a very strong crime noir feel to it, and we really like that. The characterization of T'Challa is spot on, and this is the most badass we've seen the Black Panther in a while.
As the second issues continues the run this week, we see that T'Challa has his hands full, between battling the mob, and stopping a serial killer on the prowl, he's being brought face to face with the ruthless new crime lord of Hell's Kitchen by the name of Vlad the Impaler.
Missed the first issue? We've still got copies of BLACK PANTHER MAN WITHOUT FEAR #513 available to get you caught up to this week's BLACK PANTHER MAN WITHOUT FEAR #514.

BATMAN AND ROBIN #19 *BATMAN INC TIE-IN*- PAUL CORNELL CONCLUDES HIS FIRST STORY ARC, AND MAKES WAY FOR THE SUPERSTAR CREATIVE TEAM OF PETER J. TOMASI & PATRICK GLEASON
We've been really impressed with how well Paul Cornell (writer of the killer ACTION COMICS run going on now, as well as writer of many kick-ass DR. WHO episodes) and Scott McDaniel have done maintaining the same level of quality on BATMAN AND ROBIN that Morrison and co. had set the bar for. And, while we're sad to see their 3-part story arc involving THE ABSENCE come to it's conclusion, we're pretty pumped for the creative team of Tomasi and Gleason who're set to come onto BATMAN AND ROBIN following this issue. Tomasi has written on some killer titles like BRIGHTEST DAY, BLACKEST NIGHT, and GREEN LANTERN CORPS, so we're pumped to see what he brings to the book. And, Gleason's art has been wowing us for a while on GREEN LANTERN CORPS, so we're stoked about him joining as well. Plus, those two work really well together as a team.
Anyways, this Wednesday wraps up the ABSENCE story arc, and continues the ongoing BATMAN INCORPORATED storyline that's running through the Bat-Books.
If you're not already a BATMAN AND ROBIN reader, we highly recommend the series. It's been one of our favorites for nearly two years now, and continues to deliver month after month. We've still got limited quantities of all the early back issues in stock and available to get you caught up, so pop on by the shop and start with issue #1, and find out why this series is one of the best Bat books you're not reading.
SPAWN HITS A MAJOR LANDMARK, KICKS OFF A NEW STORY WITH A GREAT JUMPING ON POINT, AND DELIVERS A DOUBLE-SIZED ISSUE PACKED WITH TALENT, FEATURING THE WRITING OF "WALKING DEAD" writer ROBERT KIRKMAN, THE ART OF TODD MCFARLANE and MORE.
I think that there's A LOT of us who've grown up reading SPAWN. And, I think for many of us, we might have fond memories of the character, and how fresh the book once was, but it's been a while since the title has really grabbed us.
Well, that changes this Wednesday with SPAWN #200, a giant-sized, landmark issue that features an all-star cast of talent, and serves as the perfect spot to jump onto SPAWN and prepare for a whole new era of awesomeness for Al Simmons, and the rest of the Spawn universe.
The series serves as a conclusion of the saga of Al Simmons, sets the landscape for a new Spawn, and brings all the classics to the spotlight. The Clown / Violator, Malebolgia, and even God himself are going to be present at this one.
And, the list of talent that's working on this issue is insane! The ongoing creative team after 200 looks solid, and it's great to see McFarlane back on the book, but with 200, it's also got a lot of talent on board, with McFarlane returning to art, Greg Capullo also bringing some art, and then superstars like Silvestri, Jim Lee, David Finch, and Rob Liefeld doing covers for the book.
And, here's the part we're really pumped about, WALKING DEAD, HAUNT & INVINCIBLE writer ROBERT KIRKMAN will be having a hand in writing some of the issue as well. This is going to be kick-ass.
So, yeah, if it's been a long time since you've read SPAWN, give #200 a look this week. It's a perfect spot to jump on, and reintroduces many classic characters while also setting up a lot of new directions for the series.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #651 *BIG TIME CHAPTER 4* - THE REVENGE OF THE SPIDER-SLAYER CONTINUES! And, the NEW AVENGERS throw a little help Spidey's way as BIG TIME continues to kick ass.
We've been loving the new direction of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN that began with AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #648. BIG TIME has delivered... well.. BIG TIME.. and Dan Slott, being on board, as the permanent writer of the series, really instills a lot of faith and confidence in us for the book. It's been a long time since Spidey was this good, and we're pumped to see the title is back to how it should be. I mean, it FEELS like a Spider-man comic again, and we couldn't be more stoked.
The current arc that's been running through the book since #648 has been the debut of a new HOBGOBLIN, his quest to kill Spidey, and of course, the adoption of Spidey's new costume. It's a pretty straight-forward story, but I think that's why it reads so well. When you have a character like Spidey, you just want to have a fun, straight-forward, bigger-than-life superhero read that brings some snappy writing and kick-ass art together to make for a good book.
Give AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #651 a look this Wednesday, and find out why we're so jazzed about the series. Plus, it's got Caselli doing the artwork, and if you've seen his stuff on SECRET WARRIORS, you know how good this guy is. Now, imagine him on Spidey!

GREEN LANTERN: EMERALD WARRIORS #6 - THE WAR BETWEEN THE RED LANTERNS and the GREEN LANTERNS BREWS AS GUY'S BLOOD PACT WITH ATROCITUS IS EXPOSED
*THIRD EYE BEST OF 2010*
We've been loving GREEN LANTERN: EMERALD WARRIORS, as it's been giving focus to a lot of Green Lantern characters that we've been really wanting to see more of, like GUY GARDNER, and KILOWOG. It's kind of like a Green Lantern Corps All-Stars team, and the writing and art on this one has been top notch since issue #1.
But, the real draw for us has been the big Red Lantern storyline that's been going down in the pages of GREEN LANTERN EMERALD WARRIORS. The Red Lanterns are some of our favorites, and Tomasi has been handling the development of them, and their corps really well in the pages of EMERALD WARRIORS.
Now, after the secret pact that Gardner, Atrocitus and Ganthet made was revealed last month, we're going forward into seeing if his comrades will remain at his side now that it's revealed, or will Zardor's recruits grow in rank against the Emerald Warrior? And, of course, Sodam Yat is caught in the middle of the whole mess.
Plus, Red Lantern Bleez finds out why she's so important to the grand plan that Zardor's got brewing.
If you're looking for a kick-ass GL book to follow in addition to the main series, then we highly recommend Emerald Warriors. We've got copies of 1-5 still in stock to catch you up to #6, so give it a read and find out why this is one of our favorites every month.
CASANOVA: GULA #1 KICKS OFF MATT FRACTION'S NEW SERIES THAT DELIVERS THE MOST PSYCHADELIC, OVER-THE-TOP SCI-FI SUPERSPY AWESOME YOU'LL EVER READ
Also, the CASANOVA: LUXURIA Trade Paperback arrives this week collecting the first series of Fraction's Super-Spy Madman
We are huge fans of Matt Fraction's CASANOVA here at Third Eye, and we're so stoked to see a brand new CASANOVA series kicking off this Wednesday with CASANOVA: GULA #1.
Also, dropping this week is the trade paperback, CASANOVA: LUXURIA, which collects the original CASANOVA series in it's entirety.
Now, onto the important part: WHAT IS CASANOVA? Casanova is one of the best comics you've never read. It's the story of a dimension-hopping, bad-ass super-spy that conjures up images of every late '60s Italian super-spy thriller you've ever seen, mixed with the craziness of Jim Steranko's old Nick Fury comics, and channeled into a space-age, 21st century package of comic awesomeness by the very talented MATT FRACTION (writer of such comic awesomeness as FIVE FISTS OF SCIENCE and INVINCIBLE IRON MAN, as well as the upcoming Marvel mega-event FEAR ITSELF).
Casanova is the story of Casanova Quinn, and he is the definition of suepr-spy. The series is illustrated by Gabriel Ba, of Daytripper fame, and it's as much Ba's unique artwork as it is Fraction's storytelling that brings the world of CASANOVA to life. The stories of Casanova Quinn blend spy capers, science fiction, and swinging man about town James Bond craziness into one crazy awesome read. Imagine if you took Phil Spector's wall of sound concept and translated that to comics, and that sums up CASANOVA nicely. It's just non-stop, high-energy, serial storytelling awesomeness. It's the kind of thrill ride that engages your brain as muc has it does your gut. Manic ideas thrown densely at the page, and expressed through the detailed, atmospheric art.
Casanova Quinn is a freelance superspy. His daddy runs EMPIRE, the international task force of Good Guys, and his sister is an equally talented agent who works for the Other Side. Casanova's missions take him all over the place, and include everything from kidnapping sex-crazed blonde robots, to graverobbing and high-stakes gambling.
CASANOVA GULA is the next installment of Casanova Quinn's adventures, and we couldn't be more pumped to see where things are heading next.
If you wanna catch up on the earlier stuff, you can snag the gorgeous trade paperback collection that includes all the extras from the comics as well, with the release of this Wednesday's CASANOVA LUXURIA trade paperback.

DAREDEVIL REBORN #1 - THE REDEMPTION OF MATT MURDOCK BEGINS HERE
In the aftermath of SHADOWLAND, the once-proud legacy of Daredevil has been left in tatters. Now, far, far away from the mean streets of Hell's Kitchen, a new evil is rising, and this could be the Man Without Fear's last chance at redemption.
After the conclusion of SHADOWLAND, Andy Diggle (writer of DAREDEVIL and SHADOWLAND) begins to rebuild the saga and legacy of Daredevil with this new limited series that shows us just what Matt Murdock's place in the Marvel Universe post-SHADOWLAND is.

THE SIXTH GUN VOL. 1 TRADE PAPERBACK HITS THIS WEDNESDAY DELIVERING KILLER STEAMPUNK WEIRD-WEST READING
*THIRD EYE BEST OF 2010*
One of our favorite new series of 2010 was Oni Press's SIXTH GUN. This one kind of crept by as a sleeper, as Oni's big hit of the year was by far, SCOTT PILGRIM, but we gotta tell you, folks, SIXTH GUN is fantastic.
This is the perfect genre mash-up, as they take horror, supernatural thriller, and mix it seamlessly with the Steampunk and Western genres, and it all comes out as a really satisfying read. Undead Civil War soldiers, Pinkerton Agency detectives, cursed six-shooters, and more make for a compelling read.
What's the scoop on the story? During the darkest days of the Civil War, wicked cutthroat outlaws came into possession of six pistols of otherworldly power. In time, the Sixth Gun, the most dangerous of the weapons, vanished.
Now, the gun has surfaced in the hands of an innocent girl, and this causes some seriously dark forces to awaken. We're talking some seriously vile dudes who've been long thought dead set their sights on retrieving the gun, and killing the girl. And only Drake Sinclair, a gunfighter with a shadowy past, stands in their way.
If you're a fan of stuff that has a strong steampunk feel to it, or of the Weird West genre in general, you should really check out SIXTH GUN. We also feel that those of you who dig stuff like ATOMIC ROBO, FIVE FISTS OF SCIENCE, and HELLBOY will dig Sixth Gun as well.
The first trade paperback hits this week, and collects the first seven issues of the series. We've also got all the back issues available individually, for those of you who prefer to collect 'em that way too.
Click here for a trailer for THE SIXTH GUN.
BATMAN: JOKER'S ASYLUM VOLUME 2 TRADE PAPERBACK - Collecting FIVE dark stories narrated by the Joker featuring some of Batman's deadliest Rogues
We loved the first round of JOKER'S ASYLUM one-shots from a couple of years ago, so it's only fair that we give some props to the latest round of one-shots now being collected into trade paperback.
This trade collects all five of the one-shot stories, each one narrated by the Joker himself, that focus on the dark, and twisted minds and motives of Batman's craziest Rogues. Ranging from Harley Quinn and Killer Croc to Clayface and Mad Hatter, each one of these had a very distinct style, and feel, and the writers involved did a fantastic job of weaving these one-shots together effortlessly.
For those of you who missed the first round, we've also got the JOKER'S ASYLUM vol.1 TRADE PAPERBACK in stock to get you a double-dose of Joker awesomeness.
HEROES FOR HIRE #2 *THIRD EYE CERTIFIED COOL* - ONE OF OUR FAVORITE NEW SERIES. THE COSMIC MASTERMINDS BEHIND "THANOS IMPERATIVE", ANNIHILATION, & REALM OF KINGS BRING THEIR FRESH APPROACH TO THE STREETS OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE!
One of the biggest surprises coming out of SHADOWLAND is the awesomeness that is the new HEROES FOR HIRE series. We had high hopes for this one, and folks, Abnett and Lanning delivered in a major way. Why were we skeptical when we first heard of a HEROES FOR HIRE relaunch? Well, HEROES FOR HIRE, as a series, has had many failed attempts at new series starting, and while there's been some really great runs on the HEROES FOR HIRE (the '70s stuff, and then the late '90s run both stick out), the book just hasn't seen a tremendous amount of success.
Until now! Abnett and Lanning do for HEROES FOR HIRE and the street-level Marvel Universe characters what they did with the cosmic characters in series like GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, THANOS IMPERATIVE, and REALM OF KINGS. They breathe fresh new life into the world of characters like Moon Knight, Silver Sable, Ghost Rider, The Falcon, and more.
The first issue does a fantastic job of setting up the series, as it casts Misty Knight as kind of a ORACLE-like figure, who coordinates various vigilantes who'd normally only operate alone, in a manner so that they're working together to accomplish missions to take down the criminal underworld of the Marvel Universe. The pacing, and action in the first issue was great, and we tore through it while reading it. The characterization was dead on, and they even end things with a really killer cliffhanger. The book feels very much like BIRDS OF PREY in the Marvel Universe, but with Abnett, Lanning and artist Walker injecting enough personality and style into it to keep things lively and make the book stand out on it's own. One of our favorite aspects is how Misty tailors her payment to each individual who's hired on.
As for the art, Walker is at his best here, and we're really digging his style. He's really progressing, and his layouts are cinematic as all get-out.
We're stoked to see issue #2 hitting this week. Missed #1? We've still got copies available to get you caught up.

HACK/SLASH ME WITHOUT YOU ONE-SHOT - THE FOLLOW-UP TO LAST YEAR'S "MY FIRST MANIAC" EXPLORES THE SECRET ORIGIN OF CASSIE HACK'S SIDEKICK, VLAD!
We're big fans of HACK/SLASH here at Third Eye, maybe it's got something to do with our love of gratuitous violence and B-Grade horror movies, or maybe it's just 'cause Tim Seeley knows how to write a damn fine comic, but HACK/SLASH is total win here at Third Eye.
So, whenever a new HACK/SLASH one-shot hits, we get stoked, and with this Wednesday's HACK/SLASH ME WITHOUT YOU, we're pumped to see that Seeley's going to be telling the enigmatic origin of Cassie's hulking, silent side-kick, VLAD. See, before Vlad roamed the country with Cassie Hack, he haunted the alleyways of Chicago as a living urban legend known only as the Meat Man. Of course, Vlad's a misunderstood monster, and is nothing like the other Slashers Cassie'd encountered previously... and this one-shot'll show us why!
IMAGE COMICS'S HALCYON CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH HALCYON #3, EXPLORING THE CONCEPT OF A WORLD OF SUPERHEROES WITHOUT SUPER-VILLAINS. A MUST FOR FANS OF IRREDEEMABLE
We've been really impressed by this new Image series, HALCYON, which takes a very interesting look at the world of superhumans, and poses the question: what happens when all of the super-villains are defeated and gone? What do the world's greatest heroes do then?
As we saw in the first issue, the last of the world's super-villains surrenders, and the world is left without any real villains or problems. A utopia has been born. And, now, the heroes of the Earth must adapt to this new world. What happens when there's no crime to fight? The only hero who has something to do is the speedster, because he's the only one fast enough to solve natural disasters when they occur. The rest of the heroes? They struggle with feelings of being obsolete.
Of course, it isn't all peaches and cream, as the Batman analogue, Sabre, investigates what's causing the lack of violence, and becomes obsessed with this utopia not being what it seems to be. He's a very Rorschach-esque character.
All in all, we're digging it so far, and we'd recommend checking this one out if you're a fan of series like IRREDEEMABLE and INCORRUPTIBLE. We've got copies of both #1 and #2 in stock to catch you up to this week's #3, so jump on if you haven't already.
THIRD EYE STAFF PICKS
Steve - SUPERBOY #3 - Jeff Lemire and Pier Gallo knock it out of the park again. I am really impressed with this new SUPERBOY title. I've never even been that big of a Connor Kent fan (excluding his appearances in Geoff Johns's TEEN TITANS run), but man, this is good stuff.
Trish - WALKING DEAD #80 - Are you surprised?
TORMA - BATMAN BEYOND #1 - I am one of the biggest BATMAN BEYOND fans you could meet, but even more so, I LOVE alternate future stories, and BATMAN BEYOND is delivering the coolest alternate future story since KINGDOM COME. Even if you don't like the BATMAN BEYOND cartoon, you should still try this, it's really good.
