THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS FOR WEDNESDAY 9/14/11

THE DC RELAUNCH CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH 13 MORE KILLER NEW #1 TITLES, GREEN LANTERN #1 LEADS THE CHARGE greenlantern1
Man, was week 1 of the DC RELAUNCH exciting or what? Loads of killer new books that have got us totally stoked for everything that's on the way for the rest of September.
This week, we've got 13 more killer DC NEW 52 titles on the way for you, and of course, the big one is GREEN LANTERN #1, which looks just plain awesome.
Written by GEOFF JOHNS, the chief creative officer of DC, and the man who's pretty much responsible for the DC NEW 52 direction, as well as recent hits like FLASHPOINT, BRIGHTEST DAY, and BLACKEST NIGHT, GREEN LANTERN #1 looks to take the series and characters into a bold new direction that they've never gone before.
Like many of the other DC NEW 52s, details are being kept hush hush on the actual contents of GREEN LANTERN #1, but what is known is that SINESTRO is the main character of the series, and is the GREEN LANTERN of the DCU.
The storyline takes place after the cataclysmic events of WAR OF THE GREEN LANTERNS, which ended with Sinestro being brought back into the Corps.
From there, we're given a fresh start as we enter a bold new era of Sinestro as Earth's GREEN LANTERN, and folks, I'm sure you're thinking the exact same thing as me: this is going to be.. AWESOME.
Add in the fact that Geoff Johns is writing, and Doug Mahnke (the artist who's been working with Johns on GL since BLACKEST NIGHT) is handling the art chores, and we are in for one hell of an awesome ride. I can't wait.

DC RELAUNCH: BATMAN AND ROBIN #1 DELIVERS THE DYNAMIC DUO LIKE WE'VE NEVER SEEN THEM BEFORE; BRUCE WAYNE PAIRS UP WITH HIS OWN SON, DAMIAN, AS THE NEW DYNAMIC DUO
batmanandrobin1a
Another of the new BAT-TITLES coming out of the DC RELAUNCH, this one promises to be awesome because we've seen in the past just how killer a job Tomasi and Gleason can do on BATMAN AND ROBIN, and with them on board as the regular creative team, we know this one's going to rock.
Now, with Damian at his side, Batman must learn how to fight crime with his own side.. and not end up wanting to kill the kid. As they adjust to their new partnership, a figure emerges from Bruce Wayne's past: His name is NoBody, and he's not too keen on all the attention his own shadowy war against evil has been getting with BATMAN INC in the picture now.

DC RELAUNCH: BATWOMAN #1 DELIVERS THE LONG-AWAITED FIRST ISSUE OF J.H WILLIAMS III's KILLER BATWOMAN SERIES! A MUST-READ
batwoman1The DC RELAUNCH is delivering many exciting new titles, and one of them is JH WILLIAMS'S BATWOMAN #1, which promises to be one of the most critically acclaimed of the NEW 52.
Originally appearing as part of DETECTIVE COMICS (available now in the BATWOMAN: ELEGY trade paperback), the story of Kate Kane as the mysterious, and ruthless Batwoman begins anew as part of the NEW 52.
In BATWOMAN #1, we're given a fresh new story and introduction to the complex character. Someone is stealing children from the city, and Batwoman intends to stop it. And, she's going to be enlisting some aid in doing so, as she trains her cousin, Bette Kane (aka Flamebird), as her new sidekick. Along the way, unsettling revelations about her own father are revealed, and the world of Batwoman, and the darkness that surrounds it becomes apparent.
We were HUGE fans of the character when she was initially introduced, and cannot wait to see more done with the series.
Plus: JH WILLIAMS art is some of the most amazing around, and the storytelling technique he uses where his art switches from a dramatic, more painted style to a softer, more subdued style depending on whether Kate is Batwoman, or in her secret identity, is amazing.

DC RELAUNCH: DEATHSTROKE #1 - A BRUTAL, UNRELENTING LOOK AT THE DARKER UNDERBELLY OF THE NEW DC UNIVERSE. TOTAL MASSACRE!
deathstroke1Deathstroke has ALWAYS been one of my major favorites in the DC UNIVERSE. I mean, c'mon: an assassin that's unbeatable? How can that not be awesome? Plus, he has an eyepatch. And, assassins with eyepatches are ALWAYS awesome.
So, when I saw that one of the DC NEW 52 ongoing series would be a DEATHSTROKE one.. well.. I got REALLY stoked. Seriously, I'm pumped.
This one falls under the DC EDGE subcategory of their new line, which means that it's a darker, more in-your-face kind of title, which doesn't shy away from the mayhem and bloodshed.
A metahuman mercenary who made a living taking out the toughest targets, Deathstroke was once a name that commanded fear and respect from opponents and clients alike. But as Slade Wilson slowly drifted away from the hunting and assassination missions that made him legendary, the name DEATHSTROKE has lost some of it's meaning.
Now, something happens that opens Slade Wilson's one remaining eye, forcing him to reclaim his fearsome legacy -- and he's leaving a trail of bodies in his wake.
A freakin' AWESOME read, make sure you snag yourself a copy of DEATHSTROKE #1 this Wednesday.

DC RELAUNCH: DEMON KNIGHTS #1 SHOWS A RARE LOOK AT GOTHAM CITY DURING THE DARK AGES! A KILLER SWORD AND SORCERY EPIC OF BLOOD AND FIRE IN THE DCU AND HAS LASTING RAMIFICATIONS ON THE PRESENT DAY
demonknights1 Here's another of the DC NEW 52 that we're really stoked about, just because the concept itself is so fresh, unique and original, that we had to get pumped for this.
As part of the darker and edgier side of the DC UNIVERSE, DEMON KNIGHTS, delivers a series set in the mid-evil ages of the DC UNIVERSE, in a region that will one day become known as Gotham City.
Paul Cornell, who's made quite a name for himself with his work on recent reads like STORMWATCH, the DOCTOR WHO TV show, the Luthor-centric ACTION COMICS run, and more, pens this amazing looking new series.
In the dark ages of the DCU, a barbarian horde is massing to crush civilization. It's fallen to Madame Xanadu and Jason Blood, the man with a monster inside him, to stand in their way -- though the demon Etrigan has no interest in protecting anyone other than himself. It'll take more than their own power to stop an army fueled by bloodlust and dark sorcery, and some very surprising heroes -- and villains -- will have no choice but to join the fray.
This one sounds totally awesome, and is a perfect example of the variety and genre diversity that DC is bringing to their new line-up of series.

DC RELAUNCH: FRANKENSTEIN, AGENT OF S.H.A.D.E #1 DELIVERS A QUIRKY, KICK-ASS HELLBOY-ESQUE READ TO THE NEW 52
frankensteinagentsofshade1
Oh man, here's one I've been pumped about since the awesomeness that was the FLASHPOINT: FRANKENSTEIN mini-series.
Jeff Lemire, the writer behind the brand new ANIMAL MAN series, and the current VERTIGO hit, SWEET TOOTH, brings us this over-the-top modern day blast of pulp fiction coolness.
In a series that reminds us A LOT of stuff like HELLBOY, and BPRD, we're shown Frankenstein's monster as we've never seen him before.
Frankenstein is a part of a network of strange beings who work for an even stranger government organization: the Super Human Advanced Defense Executive. But can he protect the world from threats even more horrifying than himself? And since he's vilified for who and what he is, will he eve want to take on this mission?
Basically: in this series, we're shown a story where the iconic Frankenstein's monster kept traveling the world after the fateful events of Mary Shelly's classic horror novel, and gained knowledge and culture along the way. Now, as part of a government sponsored team of other supernatural-themed characters, he handles the otherworldly threats of the DC UNIVERSE that many other heroes are unable to accept or confront.
An awesome looking read, we cannot wait to get our hands on this one on Wednesday.

DC RELAUNCH: GRIFTER #1 DELIVERS SLICK, HYPER-CHARGED ACTION AND ESPIONAGE AWESOMENESS FROM THE CREATORS OF IMAGE COMICS CULT FAVORITE WHO IS JAKE ELLIS?
grifter1
One of the coolest aspects, as I said last week in regards to STORMWATCH, is the introduction of the WILDSTORM characters into the DC UNIVERSE. I think this is fantastic, as characters like GRIFTER, THE AUTHORITY, and more have more than earned their place amongst the icons like SUPERMAN and BATMAN.
I mean, who didn't grow up reading comics fifteen-twenty years ago, and doesn't at least recognize half of the WILDC.A.T.S?
Anyhow, this week, another solid addition to the line of DC NEW 52 titles is GRIFTER #1, which brings us the story of the DC UNIVERSE'S most wanted man. Ex-black ops agent Cole Cash is a charming grifter that few can resist. And yet he's about to be branded a serial killer when he begins hunting and exterminating inhuman creatures hidden in human form -- creatures only he can see.
Can the biggest sweet talker of all time talk his way out of this one when even his own brother thinks he's gone over the edge?
From the writer of the oh-too-awesome WHO IS JAKE ELLIS? and the artist of Nick Spencer's THUNDER AGENTS, this looks to be one of the most promising sleeper hits of the DC NEW 52.
Click here to add GRIFTER to your subscription box.
DC RELAUNCH: LEGION LOST #1 - A POST-APOCALYPTIC SCI-FI ODYSSEY THAT LOOKS AWESOME
legionlost1
The original LEGION LOST storyline remains as one of the most classic, and defining DC stories of the '90s, and with the release of it in a slick new oversized hardcover, many of us got to experience this modern classic all over again.
Now, as part of their NEW 52, DC delivers the tale of these seven heroes from the 31st century that have traveled back to the present day. Their mission: save their future from total annihilation. But when the future tech they brought with them fails, they find themselves trapped in a nightmarish world that, for them, is the ultimate struggle to survive!
Featuring the killer artwork of Pete Woods (the recent ACTION COMICS Luthor and the Black Ring arc), and writer Fabian Nicieza (RED ROBIN), this one looks great as well.

DC RELAUNCH: MISTER TERRIFIC #1 - ANOTHER PROMISING BREAKOUT HIT AMONGST THE DC NEW 52. A FANTASTIC NEW SERIES WITH A MAD SCIENCE ADVENTURE TWIST
misterterrific1 There's so many great new series that are part of the NEW 52 line-up that DC has put together, and Mister Terrific looks to be another promising breakout hit for DC with their new line-up.
We've always been big fans of the character in the JSA runs, and it's pretty awesome to see him getting his own ongoing series.
Mister Terrific is the world's smartest man -- and one of it's most eligible bachelors -- using his brains and his fists against a world of science gone mad.
By day, he operates as Michael Holt, the head of a successful high-tech corporation and an institute that recruits and encourages the finest minds of the next generation to excel. But, as Mister Terrific, he inhabits a world of amazement few others know exists, let alone can comprehend.
The feel and tone of this one reminds me a lot of Alan Moore's TOM STRONG, or some of the old Doc Savage pulp novels, with a very modern, high-tech spin.
Again, DC has another book that I'm stoked to read this week!

DC RELAUNCH: RED LANTERNS #1 BRINGS US THE BOOK EVERY DC FAN'S BEEN WAITING FOR, AS THE ULTIMATE ANTI-HEROES OF THE DCU TAKE CENTER STAGE
redlanterns1
Another one that's on my list of most anticipated DC RELAUNCH titles, is the often-rumored RED LANTERNS ongoing series, which looks to put the spotlight on everyone's favorite blood-thirsty, and vengeance-crazed Lanterns.
As a fan, I'm very partial to the RED LANTERN CORPS, as my own favorite of the different Lantern Corps. I mean, Atrocitus is just a badass, plain and simple. But, throw in the fact that one of them is a cat... I mean, that just seals the deal, ya know?
As with many of the DC RELAUNCH titles, details are cryptic about the direction of the series, but we do know that it focuses on Atrocitus and his Red Lantern Corps, as they battle against injustice across the galaxy in the most bloody ways imaginable.
And, it features the artwork of the super-talented Ed Benes, with long-time Vertigo favorite, Peter Milligan handling the writing chores.
In other words (and please, forgive the pun...), this one's gonna be a rager.
Click here to add RED LANTERNS to your subscription box.
DC RELAUNCH: RESURRECTION MAN #1 BRINGS THE RETURN OF A THIRD EYE FAVORITE.. HIS POWER? TO DIE AND COME BACK WITH NEW POWERS! IT IS AWESOME!
resurrectionman1 Resurrection Man was originally a series that popped up in the late '90s, and while many of us fans held it near and dear in our hearts as the awesome, and unique title it was, it really didn't last more than a handful of issues.
Now, fast forward a couple of decades, and, it's returned.. and dude, Resurrection Man was a head of it's time. This was a series that really told a complex, and fascinating superhero story, and at the time, it was just too plain strange for most people.
Now, in a day and age where books like IRREDEEMABLE, CHEW, and more have broadened the genres and styles of comic book storytelling, we really feel that Resurrection Man is going to be a hit with you guys.
In RESURRECTION MAN #1, it's the return of Mitch Shelly -- and he's still dead. Resurrection Man can't stay dead for long, though -- and with each rebirth comes new and unexpected powers. But his many returns have gone unnoticed, and forces are gathering to learn what's so special about him -- and to see which of them will finally stop Resurrection Man dead.
A freakin' totally rad, quirky and fresh take on the superhero genre, give RESURRECTION MAN a shot this Wednesday.

DC RELAUNCH: SUICIDE SQUAD #1 DISHES OUT A VICIOUS TEAM OF SUPER-VILLAINS WORKING FOR THE FEDS, WITH HARLEY QUINN AS THEIR LEADER
suicidesquad1 The new SUICIDE SQUAD series is another brand new DC series that I'm super stoked to see hitting. I mean, I'll be honest: we're huge HARLEY QUINN fans here at Third Eye, so when we saw she was getting her own starring role as a prominent member of the new SUICIDE SQUAD, we got stoked.
Who're the SUICIDE SQUAD? They're a team of death-row super villains recruited by the government to take on missions so dangerous -- they're sheer suicide.
Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark. Defeated and imprisoned, they're being interrogated about their mission -- and who's pulling the strings behind this illegal operation? Who will be the first to crack under the pressure?
A hard-edged brand new addition to the DC NEW 52, we cannot wait to see this one hit this week.

DC RELAUNCH: SUPERBOY #1 ROUNDS OUT THIS WEEK'S WAVE OF DC NEW 52 TITLES WITH A BRAND NEW TAKE ON THE BOY OF STEEL
superboy1 And, then finally, as the last of the big 13 new DC RELAUNCH titles hitting this Wednesday, we've got SUPERBOY #1, which re-introduces a HUGE fan-favorite here at Third Eye, with Connor Kent.
This one looks to be very much in tune with titles like JUSTICE LEAGUE, and ACTION COMICS, where it's YEAR ONE-style re-introductions of the characters.
In SUPERBOY #1, they thought he was just an experiment -- and a failed one at that. Grown from a combination of Kryptonian and human DNA, the clone was no more than a set of data to the scientists of PROJECT N.O.W.H.E.R.E. But when the scope of his stunning powers was revealed, he became a deadly weapon. Now the question is: Can a clone develop a conscience?
A fresh spin on one of our favorites, check it out this Wednesday.

FEAR ITSELF #6 DELIVERS THE PENULTIMATE CHAPTER OF MARVEL'S UNIVERSE-SHATTERING EVENT.
IS THIS THE END OF THOR?
fearitself6
The penultimate chapter of FEAR ITSELF arrives this Wednesday, as the biggest Marvel event since CIVIL WAR begins to count down to it's shocking conclusion.
We've seen a lot of characters bite the dust through the course of FEAR ITSELF, and a lot of characters experience major changes along the way. Now, in this week's #6, Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man scramble to make their last stand against the relentless God of Fear, the Serpent, and his army of world-shattering avatars -- all while amongst the chaos and destruction, Spider-Man makes the choice of a lifetime. Dark Asgard has risen and all of Earth's forces converge on the World Tree as the globe shudders in the shadows of FEAR ITSELF.
We've really dug Marvel's FEAR ITSELF, and while it's hard to not draw comparisons between FEAR ITSELF and FLASHPOINT, it really is a different kind off story with a different kind of pacing.
FEAR ITSELF, however, in much the same way that Flashpoint did for DC, is setting up the entire Marvel Universe for 2012 and beyond, and it's exciting to be taking part in that.
Missed the earlier issues? We've got 1-5 in stock to catch you up to this week's #6.

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER SEASON 9 begins this Wednesday in BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER SEASON 9 #1 - THE NEXT CHAPTER IN THE BUFFY SAGA, FROM JOSS WHEDON HIMSELF!
buffyseason91
We're huge Joss Whedon fans here at Third Eye, so whenever something new comes out of the Whedon camp, we're stoked. And, when it's something related to what ranks up there with FIREFLY as one of his best creations, we're even more stoked.
This Wednesday, Whedon kicks off the official 9th season of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER with BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER SEASON 9 #1.
Picking up from where Season 8 ended with a bang when Buffy cut the world off from the hell dimensions and all supernatural influence, we're brought into a happy ending that didn't quite end so happy. See, Buffy left behind her best friend, Willow, powerless, and ended the long line of vampire slayers, leaving her hated by hundreds of girls who recently stood behind her.
Now, newly relocated to San Francisco, Buffy's aiming for a fresh start, and to focus on what she's best at: slaying.
We loved what Whedon did with Season 8, so we can only imagine the bold new direction that's in store now that many of those plot threads have been resolved, and we're embarking into a bold new era for Buffy.

PIGS #1 - A BRAND NEW ONGOING IMAGE SERIES SERVING UP HARDBOILED POLITICAL ACTION AND INTRIGUE. PLAYED CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS? YOU'LL LOVE THIS COMIC.
pigs1
Pigs looks to be one of the most promising new IMAGE series of the Fall. And, just like many of the past hit IMAGE debuts, like CHEW, MORNING GLORIES, and many others, PIGS is a unique new series with a promising concept, and great aesthetic.
The story centers around a second-generation KGB Cuban sleeper cell, activated & assigned to overthrow the U.S. government through a series of kidnappings, assassinations and acts of terrorism.
But, why has the call come now, 50 years after the original cell last heard from Mother Russia?
This one looks to deliver a cutting-edge, action-packed read in the vein of stuff like SLEEPER, THE LOSERS, and more. And, we can't help but say that if you were a big fan of the CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS game, you'll probably dig the tone and feel of PIGS.
Snag yourself a copy this Wednesday, and give it a go.

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #1 DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY FEATURING THE BRAND NEW ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN MILES MORALES
ultimatespiderman1 This Wednesday delivers one of the biggest books of the fall, with ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #1, the first issue of the brand new ongoing ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN series featuring the new Spidey, MILES MORALES.
One of the most exciting developments in the world of comics this year has been the restructuring, and rebuilding of the ULTIMATE UNIVERSE, and the sense of excitement and mystery that's surrounded it.
I was a HUGE fan of the ULTIMATE UNIVERSE back when they first originally debuted ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN, the ULTIMATES, and ULTIMATE X-MEN. All three lines of titles were great, and remained so for several years, but as time went on, creative teams changed, and the line became a bit weaker than when it first began.
Now, due in part to the amazing ULTIMATE FALLOUT limited series (which we still have all 6 issues in stock and available of, including ULTIMATE FALLOUT #4, which is the first appearance of MILES MORALES as Spidey), the ULTIMATE UNIVERSE is once again one of the most exciting places to be for Marvel Comics.
We've loved the debut of both ULTIMATES and ULTIMATE HAWKEYE, and this week, the biggest of the new ULTIMATE titles hits, with ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #1.
This debut issue comes in one of those rad polybags that ULTIMATES and ULTIMATE HAWKEYE arrived in, and delivers the opening chapter of Miles Morales as Spider-Man.
With an all-star creative team of BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS (long-time ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN writer) and the super-talented Sara Pichelli, we're very excited about this book, and would rank it up there with GREEN LANTERN #1 was one of our big picks of the week.
Marvel is being pretty hush hush about what's actually going on in this first issue, and the few preview pages we saw don't give much away, but all we can say is that if you're like us, and have been enjoying all the new ULTIMATE UNIVERSE stuff, then you will love ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN.

27: SECOND SET #1 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY CONTINUING THE KILLER IMAGE TALE ABOUT THE ROCK-N-ROLL DEATH CULT, THE "27 CLUB"
27secondset1
A perfect jumping on point for new readers to 27, this book rocks.. ahhh, that's a bad pun, isn't it? :)
Seriously though, last year 27 debuted from IMAGE, and we totally dug it. It takes the long-running myth about there being some kind of curse on rock stars when they turn 27, due to the sheer amount of rock legends that passed away at the age of 27.
The story focuses on a young man named Will Garland, who suffering from a neurological disorder preventing him from playing guitar, makes a faustian deal to keep playing... and of course, he had just turned 27.
We were taken on a journey through rock n roll history, as many legendary musicians were weaved into Garland's saga.
Now, almost a year after the events of 27: FIRST SET, Will Garland, down-on-his-luck rock star, is desperate to recapture his lost fame. How far will he go, and will he encounter more cosmic craziness and intense action on the way? Answers: very fair indeed, and absolutely. But, hey, there care perks to the rock n roll lifestyle, right?
We really loved the first installment of this one, and are very excited to see it return.
Wanna go back and read the original? We've got the full 4-issue mini-series in stock in both regular issues, as well as the trade paperback collection.

CROSSED: FAMILY VALUES TRADE PAPERBACK HITS THIS WEDNESDAY, DELIVERING ANOTHER HARROWING TALE OF SURVIVAL HORROR FROM AVATAR PRESS
crossedfamilyvaluestpb
It's no secret that we're big horror fans here at Third Eye, and nothing gets more horrifying than Avatar Press's incredible CROSSED series.
Originally kicked off by Garth Ennis in the 10-issue CROSSED maxi series (available now in trade paperback here at Third Eye), CROSSED FAMILY VALUES is the next installment in the world of CROSSED.
All seven issues of David Lapham's horror masterpiece are collected here. In one terrifying moment, civilization crumbled. An outbreak of insanity swept across the planet, turning millions of people into the homicidal maniacs known as the CROSSED. But from their isolated horse ranch, the Pratt family of North Carolina remain uninfected and defiant.
Bonded together as generations of working, living and learning together, they rely on Joe, the family patriarch, to see them through the apocalypse. But the Pratt family has a deep, dark secret -- one that threatens to tear them apart, even under the constant threat of murderous hordes. Some people are turned into CROSSED, while others.. are just born evil.
What is CROSSED? Crossed is a survival horror series about a plague that infects it's host with the desire to commit acts of pure evil. The difference between The Crossed and, say, zombies, for example, is that CROSSED are still able to process thought in their brains, and plot, plan, and form strategies to maximize their massacres.
And, this is what makes the CROSSED so damn terrifying.
An awesome series, if you're a fan of the WALKING DEAD, or horror comics in general, then you need to be reading CROSSED.
Start with the first trade paperback, and then work you way to FAMILY VALUES.
To those of you who're already hooked on the series, we know you'll be snagging yourself a copy of FAMILY VALUES this Wednesday.
THE INFINITE #2- ROBERT KIRKMAN (WALKING DEAD, INVINCIBLE, HAUNT) and ROB LIEFELD (Creator of CABLE and DEADPOOL) DELIVER A KILLER NEW SCI-FI ACTION EPIC WITH THE INFINITE
theinfinite1 We're HUGE fans of ROBERT KIRKMAN here at Third Eye, and have loved pretty much everything the guy has worked on. Whether it's his most famous work, THE WALKING DEAD, which manages to keep us enthralled and hooked after nearly 8 years, or his amazing superhero series, INVINCIBLE, which continues to surprise us.. we just love the stuff that he does.
And, now, he's paired up with comics legend ROB LIEFELD (HAWK AND DOVE, creator of CABLE and DEADPOOL), to deliver an exciting new series that conjures up images of his former work on CABLE, and the TERMINATOR franchise.
Action-packed from start to finish, THE INFINITE delivers a bad-ass tale of a future where an alien race has taken over most of the world, and one freedom fighting soldier must come back in time to warn his younger self and prepare him for the horrors that await in the future.
Bowen's mission has begun. The Infinite are on the move, and their attempt to take over the world has begun. He's now responsible for training his younger self for the coming war... but, is he himself prepared?
Hyper-frinetic comic book awesomeness from IMAGE, this one's a blast, and will bring up many nostalgic memories of all those over-the-top, action-packed IMAGE sagas you remember from your youth.
Missed issue #1? We've got copies in stock to catch you up to this week's #2.

UNCANNY X-FORCE #15 *DARK ANGEL SAGA PT 5* - STILL One of THE Best Monthly Marvel Titles and it's ONLY Getting Better
uncannyxforce15
I know, I know, you guys have gotta be getting sick of me talking about how much I love what REMENDER and OPENA have been doing on UNCANNY X-FORCE, but seriously, folks. THIS is the X-Book to read. It doesn't get any better than this, and I can't tell you how much I enjoy each and every issue of UNCANNY X-FORCE.
Remender manages to capture the kind of excitement and enthusiasm that you had when reading the X-MEN as a kid, and distill it into a slick, non-stop action-packed vehicle of destruction that delivers cliffhanger after cliffhanger, while only stopping long enough to let you say: That was awesome.
It seriously is the best X-Men title I've read since Joss Whedon finished his run on ASTONISHING X-MEN, and I really cannot recommend it enough.
Anyways, moving forward, we're nearing the end of the current arc, which has been too awesome.
Arch-Angel has been slipping to the dark side, and to prevent him from going into full-on DEATH ANGEL mode, THE X-Force must travel to the alternate universe AGE OF APOCALYPSE for the cure.
Of course, along the way, things get kinda messed up, and all hell breaks loose.
In the last issue, Genocide has incinerated half of Wolverine's body, leaving only two remaining members of X-Force defeat Archangel and his army. Oh, and someone has also wiped out a small town in Northern Montana and in it's place a new alien landscape has grown. What is Tabula Rasa? Can Fantomex and Deadpool work together to survive its harsh terrains long enough to unlock it's mystery?
It doesn't get any better than this, folks.
Wanna good jumping on point? Start with UNCANNY X-FORCE #10, and catch up from there. We've got all issues in stock and available now.

BLUE ESTATE VOLUME 1 TRADE PAPERBACK HITS THIS WEDNESDAY, DELIVERING THE FIRST STORY ARC OF THIS INCREDIBLE NEW CRIME NOIR SERIES FOR ONLY $12.99
blueestate1
One of the best new IMAGE series to come out this past year was the incredible BLUE ESTATE, which not only told a great modern day crime noir story, but did it with a bold, unique, and fresh kind of style.
This is the closest you're going to get to reading a QUENTIN TARANTINO movie in the form of a comic, and we love it for it.
It all starts with a low-rent private eye trying (and failing) to escape the long shadow of his respected cop father. But a chance encounter with a B-list action star on the mean streets of Hollywood drags the wanna-be PI into a world of strippers, mobsters... and the wildest (and only!) case of his career.
See who lives, who dies, and who gets the Tiger Blood knocked outta them in the first four issues of this darkly humorous, always entertaining, and often violent crime series from IMAGE COMICS.
Dig the trade, and wanna hop onto the monthly series? Snag volume 1, and hop aboard with issue #5, and you should be caught up to current.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #669 *SPIDER ISLAND CHAPTER 3* - THE BEST MAJOR SPIDER-MAN STORYLINE IN AGES CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY
amazingspiderman669
Man, it's been a long time since SPIDER-MAN was THIS good. Slott and Ramos are really hitting home runs with this SPIDER ISLAND arc, and it's turning out to be the highlight of the already awesome run they began with last year's SPIDER-MAN: BIG TIME arc.
In SPIDER ISLAND, we're seeing the entire city of Manhattan infected with an epidemic that gives the host the abilities of a Spider... and you can see why this would pose problematic for Spidey, you know, considering half of his own super-villains are based out of there.
This one is a big, fun, action-packed crossover that reads like a modern day successor to stuff like MAXIMUM CARNAGE. Loads of familiar characters popping in and out, tons of cool Spidey villains, and bigger-than-life superhero fights keep us coming back again and again on this one.
How can the heroes of NYC hope to contain millions of spider-powered New Yorkers? And, what is Venom's dangerous new role? And... is that a six-armed Shocker? Plus, one of the biggest mysteries of SPIDER ISLAND is revealed within!
Missed the earlier chapters? We've got all chapters of SPIDER ISLAND, as well as all tie-ins in stock and available to catch you up to current on the series.

CARBON GREY TP VOL 1 SISTERS AT WAR - IMAGE'S ACTION-PACKED HIGH-OCTANE STEAMPUNK MASTERPIECE NOW AVAILABLE IN TRADE PAPERBACK FOR ONLY $9.99
carbongrey1a
This is one killer-looking comic book, folks. IMAGE dished out CARBON GREY earlier in the year, as one of their first forays into the growing genre of STEAMPUNK comics that're on the stands these days, and they really made a splash with the incredible artwork that brings this story to life.
In the world of CARBON GREY, a noble family has twins: Mathilde and Giselle, the Sisters Grey. For centuries the Greys have protected the Kaiser, ruler of Mitteleuropa -- but this is a different time.
At the dawn of the industrial age, the world is embittered in war. When the Kaiser is found dead, Giselle is accused of his murder. Pursued by her sisters and hunted by the enemy Giselle must unravel the prophecy of the CARBON GREY before history itself is rewritten.
Volume 1 collects the first story arc, plus deleted content from the original issues, concept art, and some additional new content.
A must-read for anyone who digs a good steampunk yarn, CARBON GREY rocks.

FEAR ITSELF HULK VS. DRACULA #1 SETS UP THE UPCOMING INCREDIBLE HULK SERIES AND PAVES THE WAY FOR MARVEL'S JADE GIANT
fearitselfhulkvsdracula1
FEAR ITSELF is bringing many major changes to the MARVEL UNIVERSE'S biggest icons, and one of those characters who will come out of FEAR ITSELF changed forever is the INCREDIBLE HULK.
We already know that there's plans for a kick-ass new ongoing INCREDIBLE HULK series from writer JASON AARON (X-MEN SCHISM, WOLVERINE, SCALPED) and legendary artist MARC SILVESTRI.
So, the question is.. what happens in between FEAR ITSELF and the new INCREDIBLE HULK #1 that's coming out later this year?
The answer is in the pages of this week's FEAR ITSELF HULK VS DRACULA, a three issue limited series, which brings a cataclysmic showdown between Dracula, the Lord of the Undead, and the WORTHY-charged Hulk that changes the life of the gamma-irradiated monster... forever.

SUPERGOD ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY IN TRADE PAPERBACK, COLLECTING WARREN ELLIS'S (TRANSMETROPOLITAN, BLACK SUMMER) HORRIFYING SUPERHERO SAGA
supergodtpb
Collecting the full SUPERGOD saga by the one and only WARREN ELLIS (TRANSMETROPOLITAN, PLANETARY, IGNITION CITY, the list goes on and on), this one is a must-read for anyone who is a fan of THE BOYS, IRREDEEMABLE, or WATCHMEN, as it brings a very interesting take to the realm of super humans and their place in society.
In what's been described as the most horrifying superhero graphic novel on the stands, we're treated to a world where the arms race of global superpowers did not yield nuclear stockpiles, but rather messianic beings capable of wondrous miracles and -- when needed -- the ability to unleash the wrath of gods. But when the scientists, generals, and politicians built super humans to save the planet, no one ever imagined how their heroes would do it -- or even if they'd want to.
Behold the apocalyptic tomorrow, when supermen kill us all and end the world just because we wanted to be rescued by human-shaped things from beyond science itself!
A fascinating look at the superhero genre, SUPERGOD is an over-the-top, action-packed read.

SEVERED #2 - SCOTT SNYDER (SWAMP THING, AMERICAN VAMPIRE, DETECTIVE COMICS) DELIVER AN EERIE NEW HORROR STORY WITH IMAGE COMICS'S SEVERED
severed2
Scott Snyder has really carved a niche for himself here at Third Eye, delivering many great reads, whether it's his flagship VERTIGO title AMERICAN VAMPIRE, his recent run on DETECTIVE COMICS, or last week's first issue of SWAMP THING (which blew us the heck away!), Snyder is making quite a showing for himself.
And, now, with SEVERED, he's bringing his unique knack for telling creepy comic tales to IMAGE COMICS. We loved the first issue of this one last month, and thought that Snyder did an outstanding job of really layering in the suspense, and just plain eerie horror vibe he was trying to create.
The series really brings you into the story, and with it's setting in 1920s/1930s Americana, it brings about a very compelling set piece.
I don't want to say too much, cause as with many horror comics, this one's very much about the journey through the story, and the surprises that are in there.. so all I will say is this: if you dig a good horror comic, get SEVERED. You'll love it.
Missed issue #1? We've got copies in stock and available to catch you up.

JOHN CARTER: A PRINCESS OF MARS #1FROM MARVEL COMICS RE-IMAGINES THE CLASSIC EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS TALE WITH A NEW SPIN... THE ARTWORK ON THIS ONE IS INCREDIBLE!
princessofmars1
We're big fans of the awesome stuff that Dynamite's been doing with their WARLORD OF MARS series, so when we heard Marvel was going to be bringing their own spin to the EDGAR RICE BURROUGHS classic, we were intrigued.
And, folks, after reading through some of the issue already, I gotta say: this one looks awesome. It's got some amazing artwork, and the general feel and tone is very reminiscent of the same kind of surrealist, otherworldly feel that Marvel's WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ series has.
In JOHN CARTER: A PRINCESS OF MARS, Captain John Carter finds himself on a strange new world where he must fight for his very life -- and for the heart of a princess. The Tharks, a terrible warrior race of Mars, show their unrelenting cruelty as John Carter meets the Princess of Helium, the Dejah Thoris herself.

STAFF PICKS
STEVE: ACTION COMICS #1 Man, can Grant Morrison write a good comic, or what? I love it. It's like a modern day take on the Golden Age ACTION COMICS.
TRISH: THE BOYS #58 - Gonna be so sad to see this one end.. what a great series!
TORMA: SWAMP THING #1 - A book that has it all! GIANT MAMMOTH bones coming to life.. cabbage medicine.. what more could you want? Seriously though SNYDER nailed it on this one.
TONY (PRINCE FREDERICK): PUNISHER #3 -  Rucka is killing it on the new PUNISHER. Best PUNISHER since the Ennis stuff.
All right, folks, we cannot wait to see you all this week and hear which of the new 52 from last week were your favorites!
