THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS FOR WEDNESDAY 9/21/11

THE DC RELAUNCH CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH 12 MORE DC NEW 52 #1s, Scott Snyder’s BATMAN #1 LEADS THE CHARGE
“BATMAN” Explains ALL: Grayson’s Return to Nightwing, Bruce Wayne’s return to the cowl, Barbara’s return to BATGIRL, and more!
batman1a The DC RELAUNCH continues to dominate the racks this week with 12 more exciting new additions to their line-wide revamp, and the big daddy of the week is most definitely BATMAN #1 by SCOTT SNYDER (AMERICAN VAMPIRE, DETECTIVE COMICS, SWAMP THING) and GREG CAPULLO (SPAWN, HAUNT).
For me, this is my personal most anticipated DC RELAUNCH title of the line. For many reasons, but mostly because a) I’m a HUGE Batman fan already, and B) Scott Snyder knows how to write a damn good comic, as shown by his epic DETECTIVE COMICS: BLACK MIRRORS run and GATES OF GOTHAM.
Snyder has proven that he’s got the chops to write an excellent BATMAN story, and there’s a strong influence of the FRANK MILLER BATMAN YEAR ONE and DARK KNIGHT RETURNS in his storytelling.
BATMAN #1 is a picture-perfect jumping on point for anyone who’s been wanting to read BATMAN for the last few years, but hasn’t known where to start.
The title is a solo titled focused solely on BRUCE WAYNE as BATMAN, however, you will see his supporting cast appearing from time to time like Damian, Tim, Dick, and the rest.
BATMAN is the Bat-title that starts off in the present day DCU, and picks up with a fresh, bold new direction that brings a bigger-than-life feel to the world of Gotham City, and artist GREG CAPULLO brings that bigger-than-life feel to the book in a major way.
Snyder’s writing and style of storytelling definitely looks to make this into one of the darkest Batman titles in some time, while Capullo’s artwork compliments the tone perfectly.
All I can say, Third Eye Faithful, is that if you end up picking just one BATMAN book to follow: this needs to be it (even though the other ones are pretty damn kick-ass in their own right as well).

BIRDS OF PREY #1 TAKE FLIGHT THIS WEDNESDAY IN THE BRAND NEW ONGOING BIRDS OF PREY SERIES FEATURING DC’S ALL-FEMALE SUPERHERO TEAM
birdsofprey1 Does the new BIRDS OF PREY look awesome, or what? I know that Gail Simone has really made a mark on the series, and for that, I totally have a fond place in my heart for her excellent runs on BOP. However, I gotta say: I’m totally stoked for this newly relaunched BIRDS OF PREY, with the very talented crime noir writing of Duane Swierczynski coming aboard, and the always awesome artwork of Jesus Saiz bringing the book to life.
The all-female superhero team that traditionally starred Black Canary and Oracle brings a new take to the team, which features Black Canary, Poison Ivy, Katana, and a new character known as Starling.
An action-packed read, with strong character development, and compelling storytelling, the new BIRDS OF PREY looks great!

JAIME REYES RETURNS IN BLUE BEETLE #1 THIS WEDNESDAY BRINGING SCI-FI SUPERHERO AWESOMENESS TO THE DC NEW 52!
BLUEBEETLE1
Another new addition to the DC NEW 52 is this Wednesday’s BLUE BEETLE #1, which features the return of fan-favorite Jaime Reyes as the BLUE BEETLE, and it looks great.
A blend of SPIDER-MAN-style character development, and young hero storytelling with a widescreen sci-fi alien invasion story as the backdrop, the BLUE BEETLE series from DC is looking to be pretty kick-ass, as we watch how the alien empire called The Reach has sent one of their Scarab units to Earth to conquer it by bonding with a planet’s dominant life form, encasing it in sentient power-armor, and then manipulating into conquering the world for the Reach.
Of course, Jaime’s armor ends up damaged, and cannot fully control him, so now he and the living armor must learn to work together.
This one looks like a blast.

CAPTAIN ATOM #1 DELIVERS A VERY WATCHMEN-ESQUE DOCTOR MANHATTAN TAKE ON THE CLASSIC DC ICON IN THIS NEW DC RELAUNCH TITLE
captainatom1
The new CAPTAIN ATOM series is another one that I was unsure of when I first heard the character was becoming a prominent part of the NEW 52, but then once I saw the preview pages, and the concept: I was sold.
Essentially, DC is doing a riff on Alan Moore’s DR. MANHATTAN character from WATCHMEN with CAPTAIN ATOM, which is totally appropriate considering the similarities between the characters.
Charged by nuclear energy, possessing vast molecular powers, Captain Atom has the potential to be a literal god among men — a hero without  limits. But the question is: how much of himself will he lose in the process?
A fantastic take on a character who can literally take apart and re-assemble the world itself on a molecular level, this one looks like it could be one of the biggest sleepers to come out of the DC NEW 52.

CATWOMAN #1 BRINGS THE RETURN OF SELINA KYLE TO HER OWN SERIES THIS WEDNESDAY AS PART OF THE DC NEW 52 RELAUNCH
 catwoman1
We were always fans of the long-running CATWOMAN series that featured so many talented creators throughout the years, whether it was Jim Balent or Ed Brubaker or Darwyn Cooke, we thought that the book always served as a nice springboard for uber-talented artists and writers.
Now, with the DC RELAUNCH, it looks like DC is thinking along the same lines, as they’ve lined up a killer creative team of JUDD WINICK (UNDER THE RED HOOD) and GUILLEM MARCH (GOTHAM CITY SIRENS). Two very talented creators uniting to tell the tale of CATWOMAN.
Addicted to the night, addicted to shiny objects, addicted to Batman. Most of all, CATWOMAN is addicted to danger. She can’t help herself, and the truth is — she doesn’t want to. She’s good at being bad, and very bad at being good. Find out what makes CATWOMAN tick in this brand new addition to the NEW 52 line-up.

DEADMAN TAKES CENTER STAGE IN THE NEW DC UNIVERSE PRESENTS #1 THIS WEDNESDAY AS PART OF THE DC RELAUNCH
dcuniversepresents1
Geoff Johns really did wonders with the development of DEADMAN as an interesting and relevant character during BRIGHTEST DAY, and now, it seems like Boston Brand is showing up everywhere. Whether it’s his guest appearance in HAWK AND DOVE, his membership on JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK, or his starring role here, he’s definitely getting more spotlight than he’s gotten before.
DC UNIVERSE PRESENTS is a brand new series spotlighting some of the DC UNIVERSE’s most exciting superheroes, and first up, we get the initial story arc which shows us what’s going on with DEADMAN after the intense events of BRIGHTEST DAY.
A fresh start for the character, and a great platform for many DCU characters who may not warrant their own monthly title, DC UNIVERSE PRESENTS looks to be another kick-ass addition to the line-up of DC RELAUNCH titles.

GREEN LANTERN CORPS #1- PETER TOMASI RETURNS AS WRITER OF THE GL CORPS IN THIS KILLER NEW ADDITION TO THE DC RELAUNCH
GLCorps1Guy Gardner and John Stewart take control of the GREEN LANTERN CORPS in this addition to the DC NEW 52 line-up, with Wednesday’s GREEN LANTERN CORPS #1.
A perfect compliment to the main GREEN LANTERN TITLE, the new GREEN LANTERN CORPS features the most elite warriors of the Corps, ranging from the leads of Gardner and Stewart to fan-favorites like KILOWOG, Arisia, and more.
When deadly conflicts emerge across the universe, it’s the Green Lantern Corps who keep the cosmic corners of the DC UNIVERSE from folding in on themselves.

LEGION OF SUPERHEROES #1 – A NEW GENERATION OF LEGIONNAIRES MUST FILL THE VOID OF A DECIMATED LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES IN THE NEW 52
LOSH1
The LEGION OF SUPERHEROES return in a bold, new way with this perfect jumping on point for the long-time fan favorites of the DC UNIVERSE.
After the previous LEGION OF SUPERHEROES has been decimated by the worst disaster in its history, the students of the Legion Academy must rise to the challenge of helping the team rebuild — but a threat of almost unstoppable power is rising at the edge of Dominator space, and if the new recruits fail, the Legion Espionage Squad may be the first casualties in a war that could split worlds in half.

DICK GRAYSON IS NIGHTWING ONCE AGAIN IN THIS WEDNESDAY’SNIGHTWING #1
nightwing1As a HUGE fan of the Nightwing character, I am totally stoked to see a Nightwing ongoing series on the stands once again. And, I’m even more stoked when I look at the creative team that’s handling the new Nightwing series, with the very talented rising star Eddy Barrows handling the art chores, and Kyle Higgins, who recently impressed us with DEATHSTROKE #1, handling the storytelling.
In Nightwing #1, Dick Grayson flies high once more as Nightwing in this brand new addition to the DC NEW 52. As he embraces his destiny, Haley’s Circus, the big top where Dick once performed, returns to Gotham City — bringing with it murder, mystery and superhuman evil. Nightwing must confront his past, among former friends and enemies from his circus days, while uncovering a much greater evil.
With Kyle Higgins, the co-writer of Scott Snyder’s GATES OF GOTHAM writing this one, I’d expect the NIGHTWING series to be a very nice companion piece to Snyder’s BATMAN series, with the way the two writers have shaped Gotham City in GATES OF GOTHAM playing a major role in both titles.
If you missed GATES OF GOTHAM, we’ve currently got issues 1-5 in stock and available now, which is the unofficial lead-up to the present-day BATMAN tales being told by Snyder and Higgins.

RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #1 PUTS JASON TODD, THE RED HOOD, AT CENTER STAGE IN A TEAM OF MODERN DAY OUTLAWS AND HEROES LIVING ON THE FRINGE OF SOCIETY
FEATURING THE KILLER ART OF KENNETH ROCAFORT
redhood1We’ve been saying for a few years now that a RED HOOD ongoing series needed to happen, and we’re pretty freakin’ stoked to see it coming to be with this Wednesday’s latest addition to the DC NEW 52, RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #1.
But, we get more than just RED HOOD awesomeness, also included in this one are two fan-favorites, the rejected sidekick of Green Arrow, ARSENAL, and the former prisoner of intergalactic war, STARFIRE.
With Jason Todd being elected as the leader of this motley few, we’re introduced to a grouping of characters who have no problems blurring the lines of right and wrong to make sure justice is served.
And, damn, does Rocafort’s artwork look awesome on this or what?

SUPERGIRL #1 – THE GIRL OF STEEL SHARES A VERY DIFFERENT VIEW THAN SUPERMAN ON THE PEOPLE OF EARTH IN THIS NEW DC RELAUNCH TITLE
supergirl1 It’s been a while since we’ve seen a really good Supergirl title on the stands, and while there’s been some promising runs, this looks like it could be the best take on the character yet.
First, I gotta say: it’s pretty rad how they’re synching up the uniforms of Superman and Supergirl, playing up the very Kryptonian nature and design of the new armor-esque suits.
The new SUPERGIRL series delivers a kick-ass read, which introduces us to Supergirl. She’s got the unpredictable behavior of a teenager, the same powers as Superman — and none of his affection for the people of Earth.
In other words: don’t piss her off.

ROUNDING OUT THIS WEEK’S DC NEW 52 LAUNCH TITLES, WONDER WOMAN #1 DELIVERS A POWERFUL NEW START BY “100 BULLETS” & “JOKER” writer BRIAN AZZARELLO
WONDERWOMAN1
And, then rounding out this week’s line-up of DC NEW 52 launch titles, we’ve got the debut of WONDER WOMAN #1, which is looking to be another major flagship title in the launch.
Handling the writing chores on this one is the extremely talented BRIAN AZZARELLO who redefined crime comics on 100 BULLETS, and brought us one of the most iconic Joker stories yet with JOKER.
Now, he looks to bring a very horrific edge to the world of WONDER WOMAN, with a reintroduction of the character to modern times. This is one of the titles that is getting a bit more of an overhaul compared to others, as the origins of Wonder Woman are being slightly tweaked.
There’s a heavy influence on the mythology aspect of Wonder Woman, and the gods themselves.. heck, you know what this is reminiscent of.. it’s Wonder Woman meets GOD OF WAR and it kicks ass.

ULTIMATE COMICS X-MEN #1 DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY BRINGING OUT THE FOURTH AND FINAL NEW SERIES THAT MAKES UP THE NEW ULTIMATE UNIVERSE
ultimatexmen1
Man, there are some awesome books coming out this week! Rounding out the titles that make up the new ULTIMATE UNIVERSE, ULTIMATE X-MEN arrives this Wednesday and I’m totally stoked.
Why? Well, other than the fact that the renewed focus and direction of the ULTIMATE UNIVERSE has been keeping me coming back again and again for great reads, there’s also the fact that the creative team on this one absolutely positively SMOKES, folks.
Nick Spencer, writer of the red-hot IMAGE COMICS series MORNING GLORIES, handles the writing chores which is a perfect match to a book centering around angsty youngsters with strange powers, and then, on art chores, we’ve got Paco Medina, who has totally wowed us on everything from DEADPOOL: SECRET INVASION to X-MEN: CURSE OF THE MUTANTS.
In this brand new series that sits alongside ULTIMATE AVENGERS and ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN quite nicely, Spencer tells the story of ICEMAN, KITTY PRYDE, and HUMAN TORCH as they discover the true history of the X-GENE in the ULTIMATE UNIVERSE.
The divide between Mankind and Mutantkind grows deeper than ever before, and the question is: who are the new X-MEN and how will they handle the fallout of this universe shattering discovery?
It’s all revealed this Wednesday, and we cannot wait.

CHEW VOLUME 4: FLAMBE TRADE PAPERBACK HITS THIS WEDNESDAY COLLECTING CHEW ISSUES 16-20.
One of our favorites.. DEXTER meets TOP CHEF.
chew4flambe
We are HUGE fans of the IMAGE series CHEW here at Third Eye, and whenever a brand new trade paperback hits for it, it’s a cause of celebration. And we know that many of you guys feel the same.
In the world of Chew, detective Tony Chu is a cibopath, working for the FDA (who’s more like the ATF in this world where poultry is illegal due to Avian bird flu, and is now a controlled substance). What’s a cibopath? Someone who gets psychic impressions from whatever they eat. And, well, you can probably see where much of the driving plot of CHEW comes from: Tony has to eat all sorts of strange, and terrible things to solve crimes, and survive in this strange world.
In the fourth volume, aliens get involved, and well, things get even crazier, and we love it.
A must-read, and one of our favorite IMAGE books still, we highly recommend picking up CHEW vol.1 if you haven’t already.
In the meantime, if you’re already on board, then snag yourself a copy of CHEW VOL.4 this Wednesday.

GAME OF THRONES #1 DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY TO TIDE YOU OVER UNTIL THE NEXT SEASON STARTS, AND CARRIES THE OFFICIAL INPUT AND WRTIING OF GEORGE RR MARTIN.
 gameofthrones1
Dude, you would not believe how hooked I got on the GAME OF THRONES first season this past summer. I swear, Trish and I are never home when stuff actually comes on TV due to our hectic schedules bringing the comic goodness, so we catch a lot of TV On DEMAND or DVD, and I haven’t torn through a show as quickly as I did that first season of GAME OF THRONES since I got hooked on MADMEN.
Anyways, as a fan of both the books and the show, I gotta tell you, having read through some of GAME OF THRONES issue #1… the magic is here, folks. If you’re a big GAME OF THRONES fan, you need to snag a copy of this one.
A must-have, and even if you’ve never seen the show, or read the books, this is a great introduction to Martin’s world.

X-MEN: SCHISM #4 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, CONTINUING THE LEAD UP TO THE X-MEN: REGENESIS, AS THE X-MEN TEAMS ARE TORN TO PIECES
 xmenschism4
The fourth installment of SCHISM arrives this Wednesday serving up what looks to be a freakin’ killer read.
This limited series has got to be one of the best X-MEN story lines we’ve read in a while, as it totally brings n the same kind of energy and excitement we had for X-MEN nearly a decade ago, but in a fresh new way.
After the shocking conclusion of X-MEN SCHISM #1, where the world was launched into turmoil, and the all-new HELLFIRE CLUB made it’s presence known, we’re shown a line being drawn in the sand.
How far will the X-Men go when the survival of the mutant race is on the line? And, once the line is crossed, you know there’s no going back.
The penultimate issue of SCHISM hits this Wednesday, and delivers the moment we’ve been waiting for: the rift between WOLVERINE and CYCLOPS… but, what causes it?
As the official lead-in to the X-MEN REGENESIS line-up, where all of the X-MEN titles are being relaunched this fall, SCHISM has been doing a great job of getting us pumped for what’s to come next.
Missed the earlier issues? We’ve got ‘em all in stock, 1-3, to catch you up to this week’s #4

STAR TREK ONGOING #1 DELIVERS *THE* ONGOING SERIES FOR STAR TREK WHICH PICKS UP IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE 2009 FILM, AND CONTINUES THE STORIES OF THOSE CHARACTERS AND THEIR WORLD
startrekongoing1
Man, IDW is freakin’ delivering on all fronts these days. I gotta say: I’m impressed. One thing we’re often asked is for a good ongoing Star Trek series, ’cause lets face it: everyone loves Star Trek.
In this brand new ongoing series from IDW, the adventures of the Starship Enterprise continue, picking up where the blockbuster 2009 STAR TREK film left off.
Featuring the new cast of the film, these missions re-imagine the stories from the original series in the alternate timeline created by the film, along with many new threats and characters never before seen.
Think of this is as the official follow-up to the STAR TREK movie, continuing the adventures of these characters, with creative collaboration from STAR TREK movie writer/producer Roberto Orci, so that the stories within synch up to the upcoming 2012 sequel.
Personally, I’m stoked, and cannot wait to see this one.

STUFF OF LEGEND: THE JESTER’S TALE #2 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY
“TOY STORY” meets “SAVING PRIVATE RYAN” in this EPIC indie gem
stuffoflegendjesterstale2
We are major fans of the New York Times Bestseller STUFF OF LEGEND, and whenever a new series starts in the STUFF OF LEGEND world, we’re pretty stoked.
The current arc, which is the third volume in the series, is a great solo story on what we consider to be the Boba Fett or the Snake-Eyes of the STUFF OF LEGEND world: the Jester.
When the Jester’s quest to track down his missing love takes him to uncharted regions of the Dark, he discovers a warrior nation of discarded dolls led by the fiery, enigmatic Rebecca.
Will all these new toys aid Jester on his journey, or prove to be his biggest challenge yet? And, what is the secret from Jester’s past that now stalks the dark?
In case you’re wondering, the scoop on STUFF OF LEGEND as a whole is it’s the tale of a young boy who’s kidnapped, and taken into THE DARK, the realm of the Boogeyman, and his faithful toys who come to life to rescue him.
The series delivers a fascinating, surreal and dream-like urban fantasy story that conjures up the feeling of TOY STORY meets SAVING PRIVATE RYAN, with a very Guilermo Del Toro-esque aesthetic.
I can’t recommend it enough, and highly recommend you snag a copy of the first trade paperback (which is only $13.00!) to hop aboard.

MORNING GLORIES VOLUME 2 – THE SECOND INSTALLMENT OF IMAGE COMICS’S MYSTERIOUS HORROR SERIES ARRIVES
morningglories2tp
Did we say there was a lot of good stuff out this week? Well, damn, we obviously meant it… how awesome is this? A new volume of CHEW and a new volume of MORNING GLORIES? What’s not to love?
Seriously though, the second volume of the hit IMAGE series MORNING GLORIES arrives this Wednesday, and we’re totally stoked.
In this second arc, we learn (some) of the secrets in the Glories’ lives as we delve into their pasts and see how it affects their present. Each chapter focuses on a different student while maintaining the narrative and moving the bigger mystery that surrounds in Morning Glory Academy forward.
What is MORNING GLORIES? Picture Brian K Vaughns’ RUNAWAYS meets the TV series LOST, in this series which focuses on six brilliant but troubled new recruits at Morning Glory Academy, a prestigious prep school hiding “sinister and deadly” secrets.
The storyline has a very strong horror element running through it as the school harbors a dark, dark secret, and well.. we can’t really tell you what that is, ’cause it totally blows the big surprise of the first book.
Just do yourself a favor, and snag yourself a copy of MORNING GLORIES VOLUME 1 for only $9.99.. you won’t be sorry!

CAPTAIN AMERICA #3- THE NEW CAPTAIN AMERICA ONGOING SERIES BY ED BRUBAKER and STEVE MCNIVEN (OLD MAN LOGAN artist) IS INCREDIBLE
Missed 1 & 2? We’ve got copies to catch you up!
capamerica3
Dude! The new CAPTAIN AMERICA ongoing run that’s going down is probably the best work on the character we’ve read since Brubaker’s WINTER SOLDIER run.
Seriously, artwork, storytelling, the whole nine yards are all top notch, and make for one hell of a great read. Like recent series launches in DAREDEVIL, MOON KNIGHT, and others, the new CAPTAIN AMERICA ongoing is a nice, self-contained series that fits into the present continuity of the MARVEL UNIVERSE, but is focused firmly on one thing: telling kick-ass Captain America stories.
Featuring the artwork of the very talented Steve McNiven (OLD MAN LOGAN, CIVIL WAR, NEMESIS), the new Cap series has shown us a storyline that kicks off with Cap, Sharon Carter, and Nick Fury hot on the trail of Code Name Bravo, an Allied operative gone rogue, and is now allied with Hydra.
The series is packed with action, and the villain of the tale is straight from the fringes of Captain America continuity, making them a natural fit to Brubaker’s storytelling.
All in all, this series rocks, and if you’re a Marvel head, or a Cap fan, you gotta read it.
Missed 1 & 2? We’ve got copies of both in stock so you can jump on fresh.

WITCHDOCTOR #3 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY DELIVERING MORE MEDICAL PROCEDURAL BY WAY OF HP LOVECRAFT
MISSED 1 & 2? WE’VE GOT COPIES IN STOCK TO CATCH YOU UP
witchdoctor3
The first title on Robert Kirkman’s (of WALKING DEAD fame) SKYBOUND publishing imprint, WITCHDOCTOR definitely lives up to it’s Kirkman seal of approval.
Telling the story of Dr. Vincent Morrow, a cunning man as he refers to himself, or a witch doctor, according to others, WITCHDOCTOR reads like a medical procedural with a major supernatural twist.
And, in this week’s WITCHDOCTOR #3, the creep factor gets turned up to 11 as Dr. Morrow takes on his biggest case yet: The Patient from the Black Lagoon. What’s the secret of the Deep Ones? How do they fit in with the Relapse, the Extinction Event that’s coming for humankind? And why are Morrow and his medical staff at each other’s throats?

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #2 – THE TURTLES ARE BACK TO THEIR ROOTS IN THIS NEW ONGOING SERIES FROM IDW
tmnt2
Man, IDW really hit a home run last month with the debut of their brand new TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES ongoing series which (wisely) took the Turtles back to their comic book roots in a grittier, more street-level setting, and a much more in-tune with the original portrayal of the characters presentation.
Having Kevin Eastman back on board with the creations he made so famous also helps to make this one a kick-ass read, and there’s no doubt about that.
Now, with one of their own lost, the Turtles struggle to train, fight and find their own place in the world, while a brand new villain seeks revenges and hints about the Turtles origin are revealed.
Eastman is building upon the established mythology of the TMNT here, while revving things up quite a bit for the 21st century, and we’re loving it.

Image Comics debuts NEAR DEATH #1 this Wednesday – A KILLER NEW CRIME BOOK WITH AGREAT TWIST ON THE HIRED ASSASSIN GENRE
NEARDEATH1 Here’s one that’s coming out of Image this fall that really looks rad. NEAR DEATH is a fresh new spin on the assassin for hire genre that’s so prevalent in crime fiction, and we loved every second of it.
In NEAR DEATH, Markham is a professional killer who has a near death experience during a botched mission.
Determined to avoid ever returning to the Hell he glimpsed, Markham dedicates himself to balancing the scales. He’s going to save a life for every life he’s ever taken.
And he’s taken a lot of lives.
This one’s a MUST for fans of stuff like CRIMINAL, BLUE ESTATE, INCOGNITO, SIN CITY, and more.

MASS EFFECT VOL.2 EVOLUTION TRADE PAPERBACK HITS THIS WEDNESDAY BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN MASS EFFECT 2 AND THE UPCOMING MASS EFFECT 3
masseffectevolutiontpb We’re big fans of the MASS EFFECT video games here at Third Eye, and the fact that they’ve got the lead writer of the video games penning the comics… well, heck, that’s just a recipe for success right there.
In MASS EFFECT VOL.2 EVOLUTION, The Illusive Man sits at the center of many of the galaxy’s greatest mysteries and is a key figure of Mass Effect 2 and beyond. Now, for the first time anywhere, the origin of the Illusive Man is revealed, in this story that bridges MASS EFFECT 2 and the upcoming MASS EFFECT 3.

MARK WAID’S NEW DAREDEVIL ONGOING SERIES IS THE BEST DD WE’VE READ IN YEARS, DAREDEVIL #4 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY
daredevil4Dude, this new DAREDEVIL ongoing is turning out to be the best take I’ve seen on the Man Without Fear since Bendis and Maleev’s run began.
Instead of doing what many other writers have, and attempting to replicate the grim, crime noir tone of Bendis and Maleev’s DAREDEVIL, Waid and artist Marcos Martin have gone in the opposite direction, and brought us a fresh, exciting, swashbuckling kind of take on the Man Without Fear, and we love it.
It’s no secret we’re big fans of Waid, with his work on recent hits like IRREDEEMABLE and INCORRUPTIBLE, but his work here on DD really stands out.
And, the art, oh man, this is Marvel Pop Art awesomeness at it’s finest. Between Rivera and Martin, we’re getting a fully realized, high-flying, and in your face world where the Man Without Fear leaps off the page nearly every time you turn around.
Anyways, in this week’s DD #4, Murdock begins his new career – one that will expose Daredevil to crime in a whole new way.
If you thought the odds were against Matt as a trial lawyer, you won’t believe the challenges his new job brings — and what they’ll do to his private life.

GREEN WAKE VOLUME 1 TRADE PAPERBACK HITS THIS WEDNESDAY COLLECTING THE ENVIRONMENTAL HORROR MYSTERY INTO ONE KILLER SLAB.
GREENWAKE
Image really put out a lot of great books in 2011, but GREEN WAKE was one of their strongest debuts. The highly acclaimed, riveting tale of loss and horror is now collected into trade paperback format, and folks, I gotta tell you: it’s great.

In the forgotten town of GREEN WAKE, a string of grisly mutilations leads Morley Mack on the trail of a young woman named Ariel, who is the prime suspect. But when a stranger with startling connections to Ariel arrives under mysterious circumstances, Morley unravels a dark plot with a surprising link to his past.

Featuring the artwork of COWBOY NINJA VIKING artist RILEY ROSSMO, Green Wake is a haunting, eerie read and we love it.

VENOM by RICK REMENDER VOL.1 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY COLLECTING THE FIRST 5 ISSUES OF REMENDER and TONY MOORE’S KILLER NEW VENOM ONGOING SERIES
 venomhc1
If you told us a few years ago that one of our top 5 monthly favorite Marvel titles would be a Venom ongoing series, we would’ve said you’re crazy. While we love the character, Marvel hasn’t had the best of luck with really knocking it out of the park on past VENOM ongoings.
But, dude: Rick Remender, writer of UNCANNY X-FORCE, knows how to make it work. He brings the same kind of bigger-than-life energy, and excitement of UNCANNY X-FORCE to the world of Flash Thompson and the alien symbiotic. And, Tony Moore and Tom Fowler kick out the jams in a big way dishing out some of the best artwork in the biz.
In the new VENOM ongoing, the lethal alien symbiotic known as Venom is now in the custody of the U.S military — and with a familiar face from Spider-Man’s world inside the suit, the government’s own personal Spider-Man is going into action as one of the nation’s top covert agents.
A fascinating take on the characters, we cannot recommend this one enough, Third Eye Faithful.

 STAFF PICKS
STEVE: GREEN LANTERN #1 Geoff Johns knocks it out of the park here, with what could be his freshest GL work since he kicked off BLACKEST NIGHT.
TRISH: BATWOMAN #1 - I often overlook how good the story in the Batwoman stories is, because Williams art is so awesome but seriously this one read just as great.
TORMA: UNCANNY X-FORCE #15 - A Marvel book on a big DC week? :)Seriously though, UNCANNY X-FORCE is too too too good.
TONY (PRINCE FREDERICK): BATMAN AND ROBIN #1 -  There’s so much good BATMAN coming out of the RELAUNCH, it’s hard to pick a favorite.
