We know SUPERMAN’s a tough sell sometimes, but we gotta tell you, Third Eye Faithful, between ACTION COMICS, and what we’ve read from the advance pages of SUPERMAN #1… Holy crap. DC has done it. They have made SUPERMAN, once again, the coolest in the DCU.
Leading the charge of the NEW 52, is the insanely awesome SUPERMAN #1, which is set in the present day DCU, and shows us who Superman is today, and where he’s going.
And, it’s a surprising issue, to be sure. I don’t want to get too into detail, as this one really does pack a punch, but, I will say this, not only will you believe a man can fly when you finish this comic, you’ll believe he can rain fire, shatter mountains, and more. This is the Superman we want to read. And, I have a feeling, that this is the Superman they’re going to be going for in the upcoming MAN OF STEEL film.
Add onto all of this, the legendary George Perez’s involvement in the book, and you are in store for one heck of a kick-ass read.
Plus.. it’s SUPERMAN #1. How often can you say you were able to buy SUPERMAN #1? That’s a big deal.

ALL STAR WESTERN #1 BRINGS PALMIOTTI & GREY’S CULT FAVORITE JONAH HEX SERIES INTO THE SPOTLIGHT WITH IT’S FOCUS ON GOTHAM CITY IN THE OLD WEST!
A KILLER READ, DO NOT OVERLOOK THIS ONE!
There’s been a lot of great titles that’ve kind of gone under the radar in the shadow of some of the monumental blockbuster launches of books like BATMAN #1, ACTION COMICS #1, and GREEN LANTERN #1. Titles like DEMON KNIGHTS, SWAMP THING, and STORMWATCH have all impressed us in a big way, and we’re REALLY stoked about what’s on the way with this week’s ALL STAR WESTERN #1.
We’ve already been huge fans, and disciples of Palmiotti and Grey’s incredible work on the JONAH HEX character. They really have been providing something unique on the stands for quite some time, while also bringing a very grim and gritty realism to the Old West.
Now, with ALL STAR WESTERN, we get their killer storytelling, combined with artist Moritat’s AMAZING pencils, to tell the tale of Gotham City in the Old West.
And even then, crime was rampant — and things only get worse when bounty hunter Jonah Hex comes to town. Can Amadeus Arkham, a pioneer in criminal psychology, enlist Hex’s special brand of justice to help the Gotham Police Department track down a vicious serial killer?
This is going to rule!

AQUAMAN #1 – GEOFF JOHNS & IVAN REIS, the creative team behind BLACKEST NIGHT, re-unite to show us just how badass The King of the Sea can be!
One of the most highly anticipated of the DC NEW 52 titles is AQUAMAN #1, which looks to be the next breakout hit of the DC UNIVERSE, courtesy of the GEOFF JOHNS treatment.
Johns has revived characters like GREEN LANTERN and the FLASH, and shown us just how freakin’ cool they really can be. And, we’ve already had a bit of a peek at what Johns could do with the King of the Sea in BRIGHTEST DAY.
Now, in AQUAMAN #1, he pairs up with the artist of BLACKEST NIGHT, to bring us an Aquaman who has renounced the throne of Atlantis — but the sea will not let him go so quickly.
Now, from a forgotten corner of the ocean emerges.. the Trench. A broken race of creatures that should not exist, an unspeakable need driving them. And, folks, these will be the most talked about new characters in the DCU for quite some time.
Personally: I think it’s Aquaman vs. Cthulhu.

Man, are there a ton of good DCU books out this week, or what? David Finch kicks out the jams in a big way on the debut of BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT #1, which is a MUST-READ for fans of books like Jim Lee’s BATMAN: HUSH and ALLSTAR BATMAN AND ROBIN, as well as a perfect book for those of you who’re huge fans of THE DARK KNIGHT film, as the tone of this one is very reminiscent.

One of the coolest things about the DC RELAUNCH is I’m reading all sorts of titles I’ve never really been into before. I was never a big CAPTAIN ATOM fan, but dammit, I loved CAPTAIN ATOM last week.
And, this week, Firestorm, another example of a character I don’t have much history with, has me totally stoked.
Ethan Van Sciver’s art is NICE. No doubt about that. And, the story just sounds cool.
Jason Rusch and Ronnie Raymond. These two high school students are worlds apart — and now they’re drawn into a conspiracy of super-science that bonds them forever in a way they can’t explain or control.
The dark secrets of the murderous Dog Team and its Firestorm Protocol force them to put aside their differences to confront a threat so terrifying that it may lead to a new Cold War.

We love Kyle Rayner at Third Eye. I grew up reading him as Green Lantern in the ’90s, and for me, it’s pretty awesome to see him once again getting the spotlight.
But, what’s even cooler, is this new title is an entire book dedicated to the NEW GUARDIANS, a union combined of all the different color spectrum Lantern Corps.
And, how awesome is that? Throw in Tyler Kirkham’s killer artwork, and you’re in for a treat.

DC EXPANDS IT’S HORROR LINE WITH I VAMPIRE #1 THIS WEDNESDAY – DIG HELLSING OR AMERICAN VAMPIRE? READ THIS!
We were totally wowed by the creepy horror/thriller writer Joshua Fialkov put out last year with ECHOES (now available in hardcover at Third Eye), so we knew good things were in store when we saw him handling a horror title as part of the relaunch.
I VAMPIRE is the story of Andrew Stanton, an individual who kept mankind safe from the horrors of the supernatural world for hundreds of years, thanks to a truce he made with his ex-lover, Mary, the Queen of the Damned.
And, now, the truce has reached it’s bloody end.. and Andrew must do everything in his power to stop Mary and her dark forces from going on a killing spree — and she wants to start with the heroes of the DCU.

I’m a HUGE fan of how awesome the new direction of the ULTIMATE UNIVERSE in Marvel has been this year. They’ve really done a great job of refreshing their line, sharpening up their titles directions, and making some kick-ass story lines. Two of the four ULTIMATE U. titles ship this Wednesday, and I’m personally very stoked for both.
First off, is the highly anticipated second issue of ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN, featuring the brand new Spider-Man, Miles Morales.
We’re really stoked to see more of Miles’s background explored here, as well as more insight into his powers, and his origins, as well as what the future holds for the character.

FRANK MILLER, creator of SIN CITY, DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, BATMAN YEAR ONE, returns to comics with his HOLY TERROR Graphic Novel
Shortly after the events of 9/11, Frank Miller began work on a BATMAN story for DC COMICS called HOLY TERROR. The story ended up not getting published, and Miller took the concept, tweaked it, and redid the character into a character known as the Fixer.
In Holy Terror, there’s a deadly menace somewhere in Empire City and The Fixer only has until dawn to save his town — and civilization as we know it. Legendary Comics presents an all-out, head-busting, bone-breaking, neck-snapping brawl of a tale from one of the most celebrated storytellers in the medium, Frank Miller.
Years in the making, Holy Terror features a desperate and brutal quest of a hero as he is forced to run down an army in order to stop a crime against humanity.
And, at it’s core.. it’s a new Frank Miller BATMAN story, and that alone is awesome.

KICK-ASS 2 #4 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY, DELIVERING ANOTHER DOSE OF AN ALL-TIME THIRD EYE FAVORITE
MISSED 1-3? WE’VE GOT ISSUES OF ALL IN STOCK TO CATCH YOU UP
We love KICK-ASS. Seriously. We love it. I mean, it’s… Kick-Ass. Okay, seriously, we’ve been writing about how much we love KICK-ASS for almost four years now, and we haven’t had to resort to puns yet…. YET.
Anyways, looks like MILLAR and ROMITA JR have the book back on schedule, and we’re stoked. KICK-ASS 2 picks up immediately after the original series (that they based the film off of, we have the trade paperback in stock and available now, if you need it), and shows us a world where legions of wanna-be superheroes AND super-villains patrol the streets, and violence ensues.
I’ve personally enjoyed the book every bit as much as I did the original series, if not more, as Millar definitely turns the extremities up a bit.
In issues #4, Red mist takes on a new identity that well, we can’t even say, and issues a command to all his super-goons on Twitter to wreak havoc on NY. Meanwhile, the cops are cracking down on ALL costumed activity and tracing the secret identities of all the heroes. Will Dave be the first to get a knock on his door? And, will we see Hit-Girl back in action?

We know that there’s a TON of you guys who’re big fans of the television show CASTLE, and this Wednesday, Marvel Comics teams with Castle creator Andrew Marlowe to deliver the first real Derrick Storm adventure.
This tale of Derrick Storm’s first novel takes our hero from the gritty world of the private eye all the way to the globe-hopping intrigue of the CIA.
Looks like a great read, and a must for anyone who loves the TV show starring NATHAN FILLION.

We’re loving Marvel’s SPIDER ISLAND storyline, and Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos have been totally killing it on this one, non-stop.
The entire thing really gives us a story that has the same kind of scope and scale as MAXIMUM CARNAGE did back in the day, and we love that approach.
And, now, after nearly 50 years… J. JONAH JAMESON… the Spectacular Spider-Mayor?
Slott and Ramos are bringing the fun back to Spidey, and managing to tell a really great story along the way, and we love it.

IRREDEEMABLE VOL. 7 TRADE PAPERBACK HITS THIS WEDNESDAY, MARK WAID’S SUPERMAN-GONE-WRONG SAGA CONTINUES TO IMPRESS
I told you guys it was a stacked week, right? Seriously though, WE LOVE IRREDEEMABLE. One of the best books on the stands, and it reads so nice in trade.

Not reading IRREDEEMABLE? IRREDEEMABLE is essentially a story by MARK WAID (KINGDOM COME, DAREDEVIL currently), where we’re shown a world where SUPERMAN has gone totally off his rocker and started killing EVERYONE.
The series follows the fall of the world’s greatest superhero, the Plutonian, as he begins slaughtering the population of Earth. His former allies, the superhero group The Paradigm (think JLA), attempt to find a way to stop his rampage while dealing with their own problems of betrayal and hopelessness.
The initial concept is fantastic, but the real draw of IRREDEEMABLE is the fascinating superhero universe that Waid is organically crafting together from thin air here. He uses many popular arch-types from established superhero themes, but at the same time, introduces new concepts that actually work.
It’s rare that you see a superhero universe come together so perfectly, and IRREDEEMABLE is a perfect example of that.
If you’re a fan of THE BOYS, HALCYON, KICK-ASS, WATCHMEN, WANTED, stuff like that, you’ll love IRREDEEMABLE.

NEW AVENGERS #16.1 – A PERFECT JUMPING ON POINT, FEATURING ARTWORK BY COMICS LEGEND NEAL ADAMS (!) AND THE RETURN OF.. NORMAN OSBORN! WANT TO GET INTO THE AVENGERS? START HERE.
Dropping this Wednesday is a VERY special point one issue of NEW AVENGERS, which serves as a fantastic jumping on point for the title for anyone who’s been meaning to.
First off, as a Marvel POINT ONE title, this is meant to be a solid, new reader friendly jumping on point, which is great, considering the story within is amazing.

STAFF PICKS
STEVE: BATMAN #1 - Dude. Scott Snyder nails it. This is it. The BEST Batman book of the line-up. Capullo’s art looked gorgeous, and Snyder’s story was rock solid. My favorite from last week, for sure.
TRISH: WITCH DOCTOR #3 - I love the creepy, and quirky vibe of this book. It’s like HOUSE meets HP LOVECRAFT meets DOCTOR WHO.
TORMA: TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #2 - The Turtles revival is awesome. Totally does the older stuff justice.
TONY (PRINCE FREDERICK): NIGHTWING #1 - I’ve always been a big NIGHTWING fan so it’s cool to see him back to his roots in this NEW 52 title.
