THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS FOR WEDNESDAY 10/26/11

MARVEL MAKES HISTORY THIS WEDNESDAY WITH INCREDIBLE HULK #1 – ONE OF THE BIGGEST NEW ONGOING MARVEL TITLES IN 2012!
THE BEST HULK WE’VE READ SINCE “PLANET HULK”!
INCREDIBLEHULK1
Folks, if you’ve never read any titles featuring The Hulk, or it’s been a long time.. now is your chance: this one kicks ass. It’s been a long time since I’ve really been “into” any of the ongoing Hulk titles. However, I do have fond memories of PLANET HULK, WORLD WAR HULK, and of course, the long-running PETER DAVID stint on the series… and, I gotta tell you, after being given a chance to read this entire full first issue: Hulk is back. This is the best the title has been since PLANET HULK, or heck, since the early days of the Peter David and Todd McFarlane stuff. Yes. It’s that good.
There’s numerous reasons why I loved the first issue of this one so much, but lets start with the creative team: JASON AARON and MARC SILVESTRI. How does it get any bigger than this? Jason Aaron has been on the rise with his recent work on X-MEN: SCHISM, and the upcoming WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #1 (also dropping this week), and Marc Silvestri is one of the legendary IMAGE COMICS founders who’s been delivering incredible artwork for nearly two decades now.
The two of these guys on one book? Incredible. No pun intended. :)
The next reason why I loved it so much is ’cause it’s the freshest take on the Hulk we’ve seen in quite some time. In fact, it harkens back to the “feel” of Planet Hulk in some ways, as we’re shown a savage yet cold, and calculating Hulk who has separated himself from the Bruce Banner persona… and, somehow, someway… Banner exists from outside the Hulk… and he’s as evil as hell.
Yes, Banner vs. Hulk, Third Eye Faithful. It’s awesome.
I could rave all day, but just check out the preview and see what I mean. You’ll love this one, and we really can’t recommend it enough.
Don’t like it? Bring it back, tell us what you didn’t like about it, and we’ll let you return it!

GET A FREE “LEGION” FLIGHT RING WITH LEGION: SECRET ORIGIN #1 – A MODERN DAY, DEFINITIVE ORIGIN STORY OF THE LEGION OF SUPERHEROES
loshse1
legionso1
We’re stoked about this one for quite a few reasons, but I’ll admit, one of the main ones? FREE LEGION FLIGHT RINGS! :)
But seriously, I’m pumped for this one for many other reasons. First off, Legion has always been one of those lines of comics that I’ve wanted to dive into, but have never been able to find the right arc. It’s the kind of comic that many people speak very highly of, and hold in a very reverent place, but sometimes I feel like my generation may have missed some of the defining and classic runs on the title.
I mean, there’s been instances of the LEGION that have totally rocked my socks, like their role in THE LIGHTNING SAGA and Geoff Johns’s excellent SUPERMAN and the LEGION OF SUPERHEROES, but I was never able to jump into their own monthly title.
And, this is why LEGION: SECRET ORIGIN is awesome. This is the PERFECT opportunity for someone like me who’s never been a HUGE fan to get the inside scoop on the characters, while at the same time providing a very cool, modernized telling of their origin to readers of the NEW 52.
As for the scoop on the LEGION? They’re a team of heroes from the 31st century, who are defined as much by their fascinating powers as they are their complex interpersonal relationships with one another. The way the LEGION operates is very interesting, and the dynamic in the team seems to always be a huge part of their appeal.
The one thing that’s very cool about SECRET ORIGIN, is that for a massive and organized team of super-heroes in the far-flung future that usually find their continuity being rebooted often, this mini-series actually serves as the DEFINITIVE DC NEW 52 origin of THE LEGION OF SUPERHEROES.
We’re stoked. Great art from Chris Batista, and of course, the man who defined the Legion back in the day with Giffen, Paul Levitz.
Plus: free LEGION FLIGHT RINGS while supplies last! Make sure you snag your’s this Wednesday, because as we’ve seen with past promotions involving rings (Flash Rings, Lantern rings), the rings are always uber popular and always go quick.

GARTH ENNIS, creator of THE BOYS, PREACHER and CROSSED, returns with a brand new survival horror/war comic in STITCHED #1 this Wednesday… and it.. is.. AWESOME.
stitched1a
We know there’s a lot of you, who like ourselves, are HUGE fans of Garth Ennis and his work on series like CROSSED, THE BOYS, PREACHER, PUNISHER MAX, and more.
Ennis has that rare talent of blending hyper-violent action comics, raw horror, and well-paced, compelling story and character development that really makes him a must-read kind of guy.
And, in this Wednesday’s STITCHED, he’s about to deliver another bonafide AVATAR PRESS hit, and we can’t wait.
In STITCHED, the three survivors of an American military helicopter crash discover that there is something even more deadly than the Taliban controlled countryside they find themselves trapped in. Garth Ennis blends the real world horror of today’s headlines with his own trademark vision of the supernatural into a modern horror masterpiece.
A brutal war comic, with a very CROSSED/zombie survival horror appeal, STITCHED is freakin’ awesome.
I highly recommend snagging a copy of this one this week at Third Eye, and giving it a try if you dig stuff like CROSSED, or if you’re just a big fan of well-done horror comics.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #3 – THE BRAND NEW ONGOING NINJA TURTLES SERIES IS TOTALLY AWESOME, AND WE’RE LOVING IT!
Missed issues 1 & 2? We’ve got copies in stock to catch you up.
TMNT3
If there’s one thing we can say that we, as children of the ’80s, love.. it’s the Ninja Turtles. And, IDW’s brand new ongoing TMNT series has got us so hooked it’s not even funny. We’re seriously digging the back to basics approach they’re taking with the characters, as they bring them back to their grittier, and darker roots like in the original TMNT comics (pre-Cartoon years).
And, this series has it all too, Third Eye Faithful. From Shredder and Master Splinter to Casey Jones and our favorite turtle, Raphael, getting the spotlight.
The first two issues have been a blast, and with Kevin Eastman, the original creator of the Turtles involved, you know that this one is kick-ass.
Missed #1 and #2? We’ve got copies of both in stock to get you hooked up.

X-MEN REGENESIS: GOLD TEAM ASSEMBLE, AS WOLVERINE & THE X-MEN #1 KICKS OFF THE JASON AARON’S (writer of SCHISM) BOLD NEW ONGOING SERIES FEATURING THE GOLD TEAM
wolverineandxmen1a
Spinning directly out of the events of X-MEN: SCHISM and X-MEN REGENESIS, comes WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN, a brand new ongoing series written by SCHISM writer JASON AARON, and spotlighting the adventures of the GOLD team, Wolverine’s faction which opposes Cyclops and upholds the more traditional Xavier Institute ideals.
In this first issue, we see Wolverine taking his gold team back to the Westchester mansion to start over again… and, of course, the new Hellfire Club, is still remaining an issue. :)
The real question though: is how does Cyclops feel about the opposing Gold team taking the home base?
All this and more will be explored in the kick off of what looks to be the best damn X-Men title since the launch of UNCANNY X-FORCE.
Jason Aaron is a madman, and knows how to write not only a great X-MEN story, but great Wolverine, so he’s a perfect fit for this one. He wowed the heck out of us with SCHISM, and we’re stoked to see what else he has in store.
And, Chris Bachalo, a legend who’s made his mark in the past on X-MEN, is a fantastic fit for the book, making it jump off the page nearly every issue.
All in all, this is going to be a kick-ass read, and we cannot wait to see more.

DC NEW 52: AQUAMAN #2 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY FOLLOWING UP THE STELLAR FIRST ISSUE OF THIS DC NEW 52 HEADLINER
YOU’LL NEVER BELIEVE HOW COOL THEY’VE MADE AQUAMAN
aquaman2
We’re LOVING all of the DC NEW 52 stuff, and one of our biggest favorites was the first issue of the brand new AQUAMAN series. We never knew that AQUAMAN could be this cool, but hot damn, this is one of the TOP 3, in my opinion. Geoff Johns does it again!
Seriously though, the first issue of AQUAMAN impressed the heck out of us with the way that it managed to portray Aquaman as a serious threat on the level of the other DC Big Guns, while at the same time poking fun and addressing the fact that many people do not take the character seriously.
One of our favorite lines: “How’s it feel to be nobody’s favorite superhero?”
We’re digging the book, and with BLACKEST NIGHT creative team GEOFF JOHNS and IVAN REIS handling the writing and art chores, it’s no wonder it’s so freakin’ cool.
And, then, the bad guys in this are pretty freakin’ rad too… Cthulhu-like Deep Ones known as the Trench, which essentially equates out to AQUAMAN vs. Cthulhu/Dagon, or whatever other Lovecraftian otherworldly ancient horror you can think of.
All in all, one of the best of the bunch, in my opinion.
Missed #1? We’ve got copies in stock to catch you up.

SPACE MAN #1 – BRIAN AZZARELLO & EDUARDO RISSO, creative team of 100 BULLETS & FLASHPOINT: BATMAN KNIGHT OF VENGEANCE, BRING A POST-APOCALYPTIC HORROR TALE THAT’S INCREDIBLE!
GET THIS WEEK’S #1 FOR ONLY $1.00
spaceman1
The creative team alone on this one caught my eye, but the concept is also VERY cool… and, hey, you can’t argue with issue #1 for only $1.00, right?
This Wednesday, Vertigo kicks off a brand new series that looks to be fantastic, and it could only be called: SPACEMAN.
From the writer and artist of the modern classic, 100 BULLETS, SPACEMAN is a 9-issue mini-series which is set in a post-apocalyptic near future, and tells the story of Orson — a hulking, lonely loser who spends his days collecting scrap metal and dreaming of the star trekking life he was promised.
That is, until he finds himself at the center of a celebrity child kidnapping case. Seeing his chance to be a hero, Orson takes matters into his own hands… but will his actions only cause more heartbreak?
SPACEMAN looks to be a fascinating new genre for Azzarello and Risso, and if you’ve ever read their other works (like 100 BULLETS, or the more recent FLASHPOINT BATMAN KNIGHT OF VENGEANCE), you know these guys are a fantastic team. Risso’s art is so good at bringing out the creep factor in things, and Azzarello is just a plain damn talented writer.

GAME OF THRONES #2 – THE SUPER RAD NEW DYNAMITE COMIC ADAPTATION OF THE GAME OF THRONES SERIES OVERSEEN BY GEORGE RR MARTIN HIMSELF CONTINUES!
MISSED #1? We’ve got copies in stock to catch you up.
gameofthrones2
As we said last month, we’re huge GAME OF THRONES fans here at Third Eye. The show was epic, the books are epic, and now, the comic is epic. :)
With issue #1 being one of the biggest releases of September, and going to a second print almost immediately, we’re guessing we’re not the only ones who’re totally stoked to have a GAME OF THRONES comic on the stands.
As we go into issue #2, the plot thickens, and the spellbinding magic of master storyteller George RR Martin deepens.
Missed issue #1? We’ve got first print copies in stock to catch you up.

AVENGERS SOLO #1 PUTS THE SPOTLIGHT ON OUR FAVORITE AVENGER: HAWKEYE IN A BRAND NEW LIMITED SERIES
avengersolo1
Before I go any further, let me say this: we’re huge HAWKEYE fans here at Third Eye. We’ve always dug the character, and he’s always been one of our favorite Avengers.
And, this is why we’re stoked about AVENGERS SOLO, a brand new limited series which features on solo members of iconic Avengers, and this debut features Hawkeye who’s ended up being framed for murder. And, the one, the only.. Trapster.. yes, the Trapster (we love obscure super-villains), ends up getting involved.
From the writer of the always stellar HAWKEYE AND MOCKINGBIRD ongoing series, and WIDOWMAKER, comes the latest installment in the Avenging Archer’s adventures.

DC NEW 52: ALL STAR WESTERN #2 – GOTHAM CITY IN THE OLD WEST. JONAH HEX WORKING FOR AMADEUS ARKHAM? ONE OF THE NEW 52′S SURPRISE HITS, WE LOVE ALL STAR WESTERN
allstarwestern2
One of the most pleasant surprises of the DC NEW 52 was the incredible debut issue of Palmiotti and Gray’s ALL STAR WESTERN. I mean, we had high hopes for the series, ’cause we’ve been big fans of Palmiotti/Gray on JONAH HEX for a while now, but hot damn, did they deliver on this one.
The pairing of psychologist and sociopath in an effort to hunt down Gotham City’s first serial killer is a fascinating one which adds a whole new level to the grimy, gritty Western tales Gray and Palmiotti tell.
And, we hear the Crime Bible, makes a very special appearance in this one, as well.
Combine the sharp writing on this one with Moritat’s stylized, classy artwork, and you’ve got one heck of a quality book.
Set in the Old West days of Gotham City, ALL STAR WESTERN, is one of the most interesting of the NEW 52, and we’re loving it.

JOE CASEY’S BUTCHER BAKER, RIGHTEOUS MAKER #7 NEARS IT’S CONCLUSION AS THIS ULTRA-VIOLENT, OVER-THE-TOP TAKE ON SUPERHEROES CONTINUES
MISSED 1-6? WE’VE GOT ‘EM IN STOCK TO CATCH YOU UP.
A MUST READ FOR FANS OF LUTHER STRODE, THE CAPE & THE BOYS
butcherbaker7
Mike Huddleston and Joe Casey are tearing it up month after month with one of our consistent favorites here at Third Eye: BUTCHER BAKER, THE RIGHTEOUS MAKER.
What a ridiculous, over-the-top, and totally awesome series that always leaves us wanting more.
Butcher Baker, is the kind of series that if you’re into stuff like STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE, THE CAPE, or THE BOYS, you’ll love. It’s essentially Joe Casey taking a character like Alan Moore’s THE COMEDIAN from WATCHMEN, and pushing him way over the top.
Butcher is a retired “all American” superhero who bears a striking resemblance to the Comedian, and up until now had been spending his golden years languishing in the heights of excess… but, when Jay Leno and Dick Cheney recruit him for one last mission: to kill all of his old super-villains… he returns to the ultra-violent life that only Butcher Baker could live.
Totally fun, totally ridiculous. Missed the early issues? We’ve got 1-6 in stock to catch you up.

STAR WARS: CRIMSON EMPIRE III EMPIRE LOST #1 DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY… THE SAGA OF AN IMPERIAL ROYAL GUARD GONE ROGUE IS A MUST FOR ANY FAN OF CLASSIC ORIGINAL TRILOGY STAR WARS
crimsonempireiii1
One of our favorite STAR WARS stories of all time was the comic series CRIMSON EMPIRE, which told the story of Kir Kanos, a high-ranking Imperial Royal Guardsman who turned his back on the Empire, and became a bounty hunter… while still rocking his kick-ass Royal Guard armor and pike.
The origins of the story are set during the original Star Wars trilogy, and shows the lead of the Royal Guardsmen, Carnor Jax, betraying the Emperor and ordering the murder of the Guard, Kir Kanos must escape and ally himself with the Rebellion to avenge his master.
Kanos became the last of the royal Imperial Guard, and even though the Empire was no longer what he knew… his loyalty to it’s original ideals remained, which makes him a fascinating character.
Now, going forward, we see the reach of the New Republic expanding, but the days of fighting for the galaxy have not ended. A threat against Princess Leia and Han Solo’s family disrupts usual business on Coruscant — and Luke’s Jedi training on Yavin 4.
And, somewhere, in another part of the galaxy, a former Imperial Guardsman now working as a bounty hunter, is ready to settle an old score after three years in hiding.
Featuring the original creative team as the first two CRIMSON EMPIRES, this one is a must-read, and even if you haven’t read the prior 2, we still recommend jumping on board, ’cause lets face it: how often do we get good Trilogy-era STAR WARS comics?

MIGHTY THOR #7 *FEAR ITSELF* – FEATURES A CRITICAL PREQUEL TO FEAR ITSELF THAT COULDN’T BE TOLD UNTIL NOW, WHICH REVEALS THE SECRET HISTORY OF ODIN & THE SERPENTmightythor7
This Wednesday, a very special stand-alone issue of MIGHTY THOR, arrives, and turns an already awesome book into something even cooler. We’ve been huge fans of what Fraction has been doing on MIGHTY THOR so far, and as the writer of FEAR ITSELF, you know he has an excellent insight into the working of THOR and his lore.

Well, that’s what we get this Wednesday with MIGHTY THOR #7, a FEAR ITSELF tie-in, that explores the hidden past between ODIN and THE SERPENT, in a prequel to FEAR ITSELF that couldn’t be told until last week’s FEAR ITSELF #7 conclusion.

Very good stuff here, but heck, the entire run of MIGHTY THOR has been awesome. Wanna catch up? We’ve got 1-6 of this epic ongoing Marvel title in stock now, and guarantee it to be one of the best new Marvel series running.

FLASHPOINT HARDCOVER SPEEDS INTO THIRD EYE THIS WEDNESDAY COLLECTING THE ENTIRE FIVE-ISSUE FLASHPOINT MINI-SERIES THAT SET UP THE DC NEW 52 & RELAUNCH
flashpointHC
Flashpoint was one of THE best events we’ve seen from either of the Big Two publishers in years, with AQUAMAN/GREEN LANTERN/BLACKEST NIGHT/JUSTICE LEAGUE writer GEOFF JOHNS helming it, and the very talented ANDY KUBERT handling the art chores… it was a fantastic read.
The story behind FLASHPOINT is how Barry Allen wakes up in a world, and discovers the world has changed. His lost family is alive, loved ones are strangers, and his closest friends are different, gone or worse. It’s a world on the brink of a cataclysmic war — but the heroes we know from the DCU are not there to stop it.
And, folks, as you may have heard, the surprise twists, and plot turns in this one are FREAKIN’ awesome.
Action-packed from start to finish, with some rock solid storytelling and artwork throughout the entire series, we highly recommend jumping on board with FLASHPOINT, especially if you’re digging the DC NEW 52, and want to get a little insight into what caused the Relaunch.

FANTASTIC FOUR by JONATHAN HICKMAN VOL.4 TRADE PAPERBACK COLLECTS 583-588, THE DEATH OF HUMAN TORCH ARC, AND SET-UP FOR THE CURRENTLY RED-HOT FUTURE FOUNDATION SERIES
ffbyhickman4
We’ve become HUGE fans of writer JONATHAN HICKMAN here at Third Eye, and his work on FANTASTIC FOUR has been one of the biggest reasons why.
Before Hickman got a hold of the FF, they were not exactly at the top of my reading pile. I just never really clicked with them as characters, ya know?
But, dude, Hickman has made me a believer. This is the BEST Fantastic Four stuff since John Byrne’s run, and even Jack Kirby and Stan Lee’s original run.
Hickman throws out so many big, space-age ideas in no time flat, and he really does bring a sense of scientific wonder to the Marvel Universe’s greatest team of adventurers.
This volume collects the final arc of Hickman’s run before the series switched over to FF, as we’re shown the DEATH OF THE HUMAN TORCH, and the set-up for the current FF title.
Highly recommend, if you’ve never read these, go back and check out the earlier volumes to get caught up.

THE NEW ONGOING STAR TREK SERIES FROM IDW (TMNT, GHOSTBUSTERS) ROCKS IT AS IT SERVES AS THE OFFICIAL PREQUEL TO THE UPCOMING 2012 STAR TREK SEQUEL.
STAR TREK ONGOING #2 DROPS THIS WEDNESDAY
startrek2
IDW has been doing a bang up job of delivering killer titles based off licensed properties, and their new STAR TREK ONGOING series, is another one of those excellent additions to their line.
Serving as the official prequel to the upcoming 2012 STAR TREK sequel, and set in the continuity of the new films, this new ongoing series features some very fascinating takes and explorations on the new Star Trek world that JJ Abrams laid out in the first film.

WALKING DEAD #90 – NEW ISSUE OF WALKING DEAD? HOW CAN WE NOT SHOW IT SOME LOVE??
walkingdead90
You know, it’s been said month in and month out, but dammit: WALKING DEAD remains one of the best titles we read each and every month.
And, the book is so spoilerific, that instead of going on and on with a write-up about what’s been having recently.. all we can say is this: if you’re not reading WALKING DEAD yet, PLEASE, come to the shop and snag a copy of WALKING DEAD VOL.1.. it’s only $9.99, and it’s one of THE best series to start. You’ll thank me, seriously. :)

STAFF PICKS
STEVE: BATMAN #2 I think Snyder’s BATMAN is going to end up being my top pick of the NEW 52. So good.
TRISH: THE BOYS BUTCHER BAKER #4 - Aww, between this and the conclusion coming soon in THE BOYS, I’ll be sad to see a week without new BOYS stories from Ennis.
TORMA: HULK #43 - Jeff Parker does such a great job on this series. Still one of my favorite books.
TONY (PRINCE FREDERICK): FEAR ITSELF #7 -  What a shocker of an ending. The series may have hit a few ebbs and flows, but, with the way everything finished out, I think FEAR ITSELF ruled.
