THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS FOR WEDNESDAY 1/18/12

PROPHET DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY FROM IMAGE COMICS AND IT LOOKS INCREDIBLE! FROM “KING CITY” creator BRANDON GRAHAM, A TALE OF SCI-FI MADNESS WITH A CUTTING EDGE APPEAL
OUR PICK OF THE WEEK!
DOCTOR WHO meets THE TERMINATOR meets PLANET OF THE APES madness!
IMAGE is taking no prisoners in 2012, as it seems like they’re delivering a high profile, can’t miss blockbuster hit, and folks: we are loving it.
We’ve been so impressed with the wide variety of compelling, and diverse books IMAGE has done over the last few years (major props to Editor-in-Chief Eric Stephenson for making many of these happen), and it really looks like with 2012 being their 20th anniversary, they’re amping up the awesome.
This week, something very cool begins. The arrival of PROPHET, the first in a line of kick-ass Extreme Studios titles that have some of the raddest creative teams we’ve seen. These books just plain look AWESOME, and we are totally stoked to see where they go with these.
I think PROPHET may be the one I am most excited for, and for a number of reasons. First off, let me start by saying I was lucky enough to get to read this first issue already, and I loved it. It’s a fantastic mix of otherworldly sci-fi craziness, and Planet of the Apes-style savage warfare. It’s freakin’ awesome, and I’m going to tell you why.
The core concept focuses on John Prophet, an enhanced warrior designed for evil intentions, but ending up fighting his program, and turning out good. He travels through time to protect himself, and carry out various missions. Picture: Doctor Who meets The Terminator or Conan the Destroyer.
The world that John Prophet lives in is an Earth that is otherworldly and dystopian in a way unlike anything we’ve seen before. And, holy crap, that’s what makes this one POP.
A post-apocalyptic, scifi saga of epic proportions, with a down-to-earth approach to the storytelling, Brandon Graham brings tons and tons of imagination to this one, and we LOVE it.
There’s a sense of heavy focus on the details, and the book kicks off in a very cool way with Prophet awakening, and determining what this Earth exists as. It’s kind of neat to see him sorting out what he can eat, and what he can’t in this wasteland, and it almost has a video game like feel in how we see the rundown of Prophet’s supplies.
Action-packed in a big way, Prophet features the incredible artwork of Simon Roy, who brings a strong level of detail tot he art, and layouts, and really makes the story an immersive one.
Folks, we know we’ve been showing IMAGE a lot of love, but PROPHET is a shining reason why. This book is going to be one of the most innovative new titles this year, and if you just plain enjoy awesome comics, we highly recommend snagging the first issue this Wednesday.

UNCANNY X-FORCE #20- THE TRIAL OF FANTOMEX CHAPTER 1 – THE NEXT BIG STORY ARC IN RICK REMENDER’S INCREDIBLE UNCANNY X-FORCE BEGINS, AND WE CANNOT WAIT!
The BEST monthly Marvel series on the stands
Okay, Third Eye Faithful, this is it… we’ve been ranting, we’ve been raving for quite some time, heck, pretty much every month that a new issue of X-Force has hit, about how freakin’ incredible this series is. And, now, as a brand new arc begins, this is your chance to jump on board what is quite possibly, THE best monthly Marvel title on the stands.
Rick Remender brings so much energy, and so much excitement to UNCANNY X-FORCE, and with the killer storyline of the DARK ANGEL SAGA finished up, and a bold new storyline following up in it’s aftermath… we are pumped.
This brand new arc, the TRIAL OF FANTOMEX, delves into the origins, motivations, and ramifications of one of the most fascinating characters to come out of Uncanny X-Force: the enigmatic Weapon X-produced FANTOMEX. And, wait, it gets cooler… along with Fantomex, comes the coolest use we’ve seen of Captain Britain since the Alan Moore days, as Remender brings Captain Britain and the Captain Britain Corps into the storyline, exploring the ties that Fantomex, Betsy Braddock, and her brother all share.
You’ve heard me gush on and on about this one many times, Third Eye Faithful, so I won’t repeat myself again and again here… all I’ll say is this: UNCANNY X-FORCE continues to be my favorite monthly Marvel series, every freakin’ month, and if you’re not reading this incredible series, I highly recommend picking up with the issue prior to this (#19.1), and then hopping onto the series from there with this week’s #20. You will not be disappointed.

BATMAN #5 – SCOTT SNYDER AND GREG CAPULLO’S KICK-ASS FLAGSHIP BATMAN TITLE CONTINUES TO IMPRESS THE HECK OUT OF US THIS WEDNESDAY! MISSED 1-4? WE’VE GOT ‘EM IN STOCK TO CATCH YOU UP
One of the stand-out titles of the DC NEW 52, Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s BATMAN is a true home-run, and is only rivaled by JUSTICE LEAGUE in terms of having the top spot as what we consider the biggest of the DC NEW 52 titles.
This book is just plain… AWESOME. It gets better with each issue, and I mean, folks, Snyder is really putting together an incredible story here. I’m telling you, this is as good as it gets, and will go down in history as a prime example of BATMAN storytelling at it’s finest.
Set firmly in the present of the DCU New 52, BATMAN has given us that perfect balance of the dark, gritty storytelling that we’ve come to love and know in films like THE DARK KNIGHT, and video games like ARKHAM ASYLUM, balanced out with the kind of bigger-than-life, comic book magic that we’ve seen in modern classics like BATMAN: HUSH and BATMAN THE LONG HALLOWEEN.
A perfect blend of the best there is from all mediums, Snyder’s BATMAN is a true masterpiece.
The initial storyline that’s been running since issue 1 explores an Illuminati-like organization known as the Court of Owls who’ve been controlling Gotham long before Bruce took up the mantle of the Bat. And, now, they’ve set their sights on Wayne, and will kill him by any means necessary.
Now, in this week’s BATMAN #5, Batman lies deep beneath Gotham City in the Court of Owl’s trap, and is left wondering if he will be able to escape the Labrynth he’s been left to.
A dynamite read, we highly recommend the BATMAN series, and if you’re not yet reading this one, definitely jump on board, and find out why it’s one of our favorites of the DC NEW 52.

MEMORIAL #2 – A MUST-READ FOR FANS OF THE UNWRITTEN, NEIL GAIMAN’S SANDMAN and OTHER WORKS, and LOCKE & KEY – Killer modern fantasy!
Missed #1? We’ve got copies in stock to catch you up
Man, we really loved the first issue of MEMORIAL, from critically-acclaimed sci-fi and fantasy novelist Chris Roberson, and are totally stoked for the second one.
With a very cool, Neil Gaimain-esque modern fantasy appeal, MEMORIAL tells the story of a young girl who wakes up with amnesia, and finds herself stumbling into an antique store hidden away down a back alley…. and then, when literally every park and museum statue in the city comes to life, and starts looking for her… she finds herself stepping through a doorway that leads into a magical new world.
Now, after spending a year rebuilding her life, she’s thrust into the middle of a supernatural conflict between immortal beings representing fundamental aspects of the universe itself when she’s given the key to a magical that appears one instant and disappears the next.
Now, with nothing but a talking cat to guide her, she’s on the run from a legion of living statues, an evil ventriloquist’s dolls, and the mysterious Court of Shadows.
The first issue was a total blast, and we’re pretty excited to see where things go in this week’s #2.

SUPERIOR #7 CONCLUDES MARK MILLAR (writer of KICK-ASS, OLD MAN LOGAN and NEMESIS) and LEINIL YU’S INCREDIBLE REAL WORLD SUPERMAN/SHAZAM story.
Missed 1-6? We’ve got ‘em in stock to catch you up.
One of the raddest debuts in 2011 was Mark Millar and Leinil Yu’s kick-ass spin on the whole Superman / Shazam-esque mythos with SUPERIOR.
The story of a young disabled boy who one day is granted a wish to become his most idolized comic book hero, and then.. well.. everything goes completely wrong. From devil-worshiping space monkeys, to arch-nemesises, and more… SUPERIOR is packed to the gills with awesomeness, and we’ve loved every second of it.
Now, Millar brings his tale to a conclusion, as SUPERIOR squares off against ABRAXAS in the middle of NYC, where thousands of people die every time one of these titans throw a punch.
With a movie already in talks with KICK-ASS director MATTHEW VAUGHN, SUPERIOR is a must-read.

AVENGING SPIDER-MAN #3- Superstar artist JOE MADUREIRA continues his incredible, blockbuster new SPIDER-MAN title this Wednesday with AVENGING SPIDER-MAN #3
Missed 1 & 2? We’ve got ‘em available to catch you up
I gotta tell you, Third Eye Faithful, we are absolutely loving the new AVENGING SPIDER-MAN. This brand new series from superstar artist Joe Madureira has captivated us in a big way, and we love it. Joe Madureira, you may remember, did a ton of kick-ass work on stuff like UNCANNY X-MEN, AGE OF APOCALYPSE, and BATTLE CHASERS back in the day, and it’s pretty great to see him working on Spidey.
The first arc of this one has been a very cool Marvel Team-Up style of story as Spidey and the Red Hulk find themselves in a crazy throw down of an adventure where a rogue tribe of Moleoids known as the Subterraneans have began invading the surface of the Earth.
Totally fun, make sure you hop aboard this killer new series this week. Missed 1 & 2? We’ve got copies of each in stock to catch you up.

There’s been a ton of exciting stuff to come out of the DC NEW 52, and one of those titles has been RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS, featuring the incredible artwork of Keneth Rocafort, and starring the once-dead Robin that we all love to hate, and hate to love… the Red Hood.
And, as an epic story brews, and Jason Todd finds himself going one-on-one with an ancient evil, and Starfire being put out of commission.. it’s up to Roy Harper to stand alone against the monstrous threat known as Crux.
Killer stuff, with incredible artwork.
If you missed out on the early issues, fear not, ’cause we’ve got issues 1-4 in stock now to catch you up to this week’s #5.

CROSSED: PSYCHOPATH #7 CONCLUDES THE LATEST, AND MOST HORRIFYING INSTALLMENT OF CROSSED TO DATE THIS WEDNESDAY
MISSED 1-6? WE’VE GOT COPIES IN STOCK TO CATCH YOU UP
The defining last word when it comes to survival horror concludes it’s latest, blood-drenched arc as CROSSED PSYCHOPATH reaches it’s end, in a big way.
This has been the most harrowing of the CROSSED series yet, with an almost unnerving story that shows us the true horror that humanity is capable of. In the world of CROSSED, a disease has spread, infecting most of the world with the desire to commit acts of pure evil and mayhem, but unlike zombies.. they are still able to think, plan, and plot how to do these horrible things, which makes them infinitely more dangerous. But, what happens when one of the non-infected is even more sinister than the CROSSED?
That’s the question posed by CROSSED PSYCHOPATH, and in this Wednesday’s conclusion, we see the true horror that drives the human monster known as Harold Lorre.
You want one of the most compelling, and in-your-face horror comics on the stands? Pick up CROSSED. Either hop on fresh with PSYCHOPATH #1, or backtrack, and start at the very beginning with the CROSSED VOL.1 trade paperback, and find out why this is WALKING DEAD taken to the next level in terms of pure shock and awe.
Missed 1-6 of CROSSED PSYCHOPATH? We’ve got copies in stock to catch you up this Wednesday.

Dude, the new ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN is so freakin’ good. This is Bendis bringing his A-game, and is very reminiscent of how awesome the original early issues of ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN were. SUPERGIRL #5 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY, CHECK OUT ONE OF THE BIGGEST SURPRISE HITS OF THE DC NEW 52! THE NEW SUPERGIRL IS AWESOME
I gotta tell you, Third Eye Faithful. The NEW 52 has had a ton of surprises, and one of the biggest, and most awesome, has been how awesome the new SUPERGIRL ongoing series is.
With a kick-ass new take on SUPERGIRL, as a quick-tempered Kryptonian with a chip on her shoulder, and very little patience for mankind, this series has got us hooked. Fantastic artwork from Mahmud Asrar, and solid storytelling from Michael Green makes each issue an impressive read.
Looking to branch out, and try another one of the DC NEW 52s? Give SUPERGIRL a shot, we think you’ll be pretty surprised with how awesome this book is turning out to be. Heck, I’m digging it even more than the current SUPERMAN title (not ACTION, but the other one set in the present day).

GRANT MORRISON WRITES THE AVENGERS (not those Avengers! ;) ) WITH THIS WEDNESDAY’S STEED AND MRS PEEL #1
What better combo than the incredibly talented Grant Morrison, better known for hits like BATMAN RIP, THE INVISIBLES, WE3, and most currently, ACTION COMICS, and the classic cult favorite TV show, THE AVENGERS.
This 6-issue limited series brings Morrison’s mind-bending, psychedelic take on the Avengers, as the Avengers return, with John Steed and Emma Peel reuniting to solve the mystery of a young woman’s kidnapping.
A perfect match, great creators, and a great property, this one should be pretty awesome.

MORNING GLORIES #15 – NICK SPENCER’S KILLER IMAGE SERIES CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH MORNING GLORIES #15! NOT READING MORNING GLORIES? PICK UP VOL.1 FOR ONLY $9.99 AND FIND OUT WHY THIS IS ONE OF OUR BIGGEST FAVORITES RIGHT NOW

Morning Glories continues to be a huge favorite for us here at Third Eye with it’s layered, incredible storytelling, compelling characters, and super-rad artwork by Joe Eisma, we are HOOKED on MORNING GLORIES.
And, we know that many of you guys are as well, so you’ll probably be pretty stoked to see that issue #15 is hitting this Wednesday.
The story of MORNING GLORIES centers around Morning Glory Academy, a prestigious prep school with a very sinister secret, and a cast of new students who’re being put through the trials and tribulations of this school, and it’s hidden motivations.
A compelling mix of stuff like LOCKE & KEY, Brian K. Vaughn’s RUNAWAYS, and the television series, LOST, MORNING GLORIES is a big favorite.

UNCANNY X-MEN #5 CONTINUES THE BLUE TEAM AWESOMENESS AS CYCLOPS AND HIS ALPHA TEAM INVESTIGATE A BRAND NEW ADDITION TO THE MARVEL UNIVERSE: TABULA RASA
We have been really digging Kieron Gillen’s badass new UNCANNY X-MEN ongoing which puts the focus on CYCLOPS and his hand-picked team of the most powerful mutants in the Marvel Universe.
And, this Wednesday, a bold new arc begins on the tails of the introductory MR. SINISTER arc, with the X-Men venturing off to explore a brand new addition to the Marvel Universe: Tabula Rasa.
We’re pretty excited about this book, and this new direction of the story, for a ton of reasons. One of the biggest is the sense of world-building that Kieron Gillen is bringing to X-Men and the Marvel Universe. Remember those older runs of X-Men where it felt like stuff that was being created was so awesome that it was going to stick around? Well, that’s the feeling we get from much of what Gillen is doing, and it’s really a testament to how much we’re digging the book. The trip to Tabula Rasa is the culmination of that, and we cannot wait to see what’s in store next.
Wanna get caught up? Both UNCANNY X-MEN and WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN are perfect for new readers to the X-Men titles, and are super easy to jump on board with. We’ve got issues 1-4 of UNCANNY X-MEN in stock now to catch you up to this week’s #5.

J. MICHAEL STRACZYNSKI’S THE TWELVE ARRIVES IN TRADE PAPERBACK THIS WEDNESDAY – THE WRITER OF SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE, RISING STARS, SUPREME POWER, AND MORE BRINGS A CUTTING-EDGE REAL WORLD TAKE TO THE FORGOTTEN PULP HEROES OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE
We are huge fans of Straczynski here at Third Eye, and have loved his work on titles like SUPREME POWER, SUPERMAN EARTH ONE, RISING STARS, MIDNIGHT NATION, and much more.. so we’re pretty stoked to see this trade paperback collection of one of our favorite Straczynski works, THE TWELVE.
Just like SUPREME POWER gave us a real world look at how the Justice League would really be, THE TWELVE shows us yesterday’s men and women of tomorrow – today. The Phantom Reporter. Electro. The Black Widow. The Laughing Mask. The Blue Blade. Dynamic Man. Master mind Excello. Mister E. The Fiery Mask. The Witness. Rockman. Captain Wonder… a whole slew of fascinating characters who’ve been laying dormant for sixty years, and when they awaken, it’s to a tormented world that needs them more than ever.
But has the world grown beyond their brand of old-fashioned heroism?
That’s the question this post-modernist tale of sacrifice, betrayal, and human nature poses, and we’re pretty stoked about it being collected so you guys can check it out now too.

CALIGULA #6 – “FERALS” & “CROSSED” writer DAVID LAPHAM CONCLUDES HIS HARROWING AND HORRIFIC TALE OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE AND IT’S MOST EVIL EMPEROR OF ALL TIME THIS WEDNESDAY! From AVATAR PRESS, the publishers of CROSSED, NEONOMICON, and FERALS!
Missed issues 1-5? We’ve got copies in stock to catch you up.
This Wednesday brings the conclusion to another cutting edge AVATAR PRESS series, with CALIGULA #6. From the same writer as CROSSED PSYCHOPATH and FERALS, comes this harrowing tale of the most disturbing period the Roman empire had ever endured.
Mixing a tale of the supernatural and demonic possession with one of history’s most notorious, and sinister figures, David Lapham tells a tale of historical horror that is downright disturbing. Now, one mortal man is all that can put an end to Rome’s most despised despot’s reign.
If you’re fan of other AVATAR stuff like NEONOMICON or CROSSED, then definitely give CALIGULA a shot, ’cause it’s up to the same level of horror comic awesomeness as many of the other Avatar titles.

DAREDEVIL #8 *DEVIL IN THE DETAILS CHAPTER 2* - The second half of the AMAZING SPIDER-MAN / DAREDEVIL CROSSOVER CONCLUDES HERE! Spidey readers make sure you snag #8 this Wednesday
The second half of the AMAZING SPIDER-MAN / DAREDEVIL arc concludes here with DEVIL AND THE DETAILS part 2 of 2, continued from last week’s AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #677, and folks, we are STOKED.
I’m telling you now: DAREDEVIL is one of the best new Marvel series to launch in 2011, and it continues to deliver a kick-ass read month in and month out. This is some amazingly good stuff, with IRREDEEMABLE writer MARK WAID, and a team of very talented artists consisting of Marcos Martin and Paola Rivera delivering one hell of a read. And, even better, this issue features a very special guest spot by Third Eye favorite, KANO, who captures the same kind of KIRBY and DITKO-esque energy that Martin and Rivera do.
And, with this being the second half of the story that began last week in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #677, this is a great time to try the book if you haven’t, but are already reading Spidey.
Trust us, folks, there’s a reason DAREDEVIL’s new series is getting so much hype: ’cause it’s THAT good.

VOLTRON #2 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY CONTINUING THE MODERN DAY, CUTTING EDGE NEW TAKE ON THE ’80S CARTOON CLASSIC!
MISSED #1? WE’VE GOT COPIES IN STOCK TO CATCH YOU UP
Dude! The new VOLTRON series is pretty kick-ass! We were totally impressed with the first issue that debuted last month from the fine folks at Dynamite, who’ve been dishing out the goods with recent comic expansions of stuff like A GAME OF THRONES, and more.
With a bold new direction, and a modern day 21st century reinterpretation of the world of VOLTRON, this new series has us hooked.
Picking up this week, with VOLTRON down, and the people of Earth only hours away from complete annihilation. In order to preserve all they know, Keith and the rest of Team Voltron must launch a rescue mission to save the giant robot, and uncover a terrible secret decades in the making.
A killer, slightly darker take on the world of VOLTRON makes this new series an absolute must-read.

CHEW #23 – ONE OF OUR FAVORITE IMAGE COMICS SERIES CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY! PICTURE DEXTER meets TOP CHEF and that sums up CHEW well!
Not reading CHEW? Jump on with the first trade paperback for only $9.99
One of the best damn IMAGE COMICS running, CHEW has continued to impress us for a couple of years now, since it’s launch, with it’s clever concept, it’s strong characters, and it’s perfect balance of humor, horror, and action. It really is a perfect example of the kind of diversity and innovation IMAGE is bringing to the table these days.
Remember that dead baseball player on the cover of CHEW #15? This is where we find out just what his story is… and, how it ties back to our hero, Tony Chu.
Not reading CHEW? We highly recommend snagging up the first trade paperback, and trying it out.
See Detective Tony Chu is a detective with a secret. A weird secret. Tony Chu is Cibopathic, which means he gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats. It also means he’s a hell of a detective, as long as he doesn’t mind nibbling on a murder victim’s corpse to figure out whodunit, and why. And, now, Tony Chu works for the FDA, the world’s most powerful law enforcement organization, to investigate their strangest, sickest and most bizarre cases.
Fresh as hell, and always a blast, if you’re not reading, CHEW, try it out this week at Third Eye. You’ll be hooked.

FEAR ITSELF: JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY HC DELIVERS THE FIRST CHUNK OF KIERON GILLEN’S INCREDIBLE, UNDERRATED LOKI STORY… A MUST-READ! VERY REMINISCENT OF NEIL GAIMAN’S “THE SANDMAN”
Man, what a surprise this book has been! It really crept up on me, but after recenty going back and reading through the full run thus far, I gotta tell you: this is an amazing book, and you really need to check this out if you just enjoy plain great comics.
The series reminds us A LOT of Neil Gaiman’s the SANDMAN as it follows Loki through various quests, and ventures into the world of men, and beyond, with almost a kind of fable-like feel to each tale.
The story starts out with Loki returning to life, and the mystery surrounding his death about to be revealed. Sadly, when he’s the first to discover the horror of FEAR ITSELF coming on the horizon… none of Asgard will heed his advice.
Now, we follow Loki to the very depths of Hell as he wades through the dead to find someone to join his cause. But Loki will soon learn the dead do not forgive easily — or forget.. What can the young trickster god be up to this time?
An amazing series, pick this bad boy up this week, and find out why we’re so stoked on Kieron Gillen’s JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY run.
Prefer the single issues? We’ve got the entire run in stock in individual issues as well.

INDIE GEM THE RED TEN COMES TO THIRD EYE THIS WEDNESDAY WITH THE RED TEN #1 – A VERY WATCHMEN-ESQUE SUPERHERO MURDER MYSTERY THAT TAKES NO PRISONERS
We’re always on the lookout for killer new indie stuff here at Third Eye, and when we saw THE RED TEN at NYCC in 2011, we knew that it was something we had to get in our stores.
I’m pretty stoked about this one, as it delivers a visceral, and kick-ass superhero murder mystery that is reminiscent of the themes that WATCHMEN explored. The Red Ten is a superhero retelling of Agatha Christie’s classic novel “And Then There Were None.” When the world’s greatest detective is violently murdered by her nemesis, the world’s foremost super team and her former sidekick band together to bring the villain to justice. However, the mission goes terribly wrong, and before the night is out, each of the ten heroes will pay severely for past transgression.
A compelling concept, and a well put together debut issue, we thought that this one was pretty kick-ass, and we’re stoked to be offering this indie gem at Third Eye.

STAFF PICKS
ANNAPOLIS
STEVE: SCARLET SPIDER #1 - I started reading Spider-Man in the ’90s with the SMOKE AND MIRRORS story arc that kind of began the whole Clone Saga, so I’m definitely nostalgic for this one… BUT.. it really was an amazing read, and totally surprised me with how much I dug it.
