This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 2/15/12

PETER PANZERFAUST #1 DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY FEATURING PETER PAN & THE LOST BOYS THROWING DOWN WITH NAZIS IN THIS STEAMPUNKY ALTERNATE HISTORY NEW IMAGE SERIES!
Get #1 AND GET IT SIGNED ON MARCH 17th with WRITER KURTIS J.WIEBE and ARTIST TYLER JENKINS COME TO THIRD EYE!

IMAGE delivers another exciting new series with this steampunky, alternate history genre mash-up that can only be defined by one word: AWESOME.
Peter Panzerfaust is the story of a mysterious American boy by the name of Peter who’s rallied a handful of French orphans to work together to survive the fall of the City of Calais, as the Germans invade France.
Set in the spring of 1940, with some slight twists on the technology, and settings of the war, the world of Peter Panzerfaust is a fantastic blend of modern fantasy, steampunk aesthetics, and old school war story awesomeness. Plus, how can you not love a story where Nazis are getting beat down?
Tyler Jenkin’s artwork brings a fantastic blend of high concept fun, and gritty realism to the page, which helps make the story even more surreal, as Kurtis J. Wiebe (GREEN WAKE, THE INTREPIDS) gives the story a very unique voice, and tone.
Peter reminds us a lot of the quirky weirdness of David Tennant’s DOCTOR from DOCTOR WHO, with his nearly suicidal sense of humor, and oddball behavior, and the sinister looking Nazi  Captain who just happens to have a hook for a hand makes the perfect villain.
The mythology of the original Peter Pan story, the concept of the Lost Boys, and Captain Hook are all brought into a very Band of Brothers-style war story that really has us hooked.
Take the humor, and fun of Doctor Who and Torchwood combine it with the folklore genre-bending of FABLES or TV shows like ONCE UPON A TIME, and then, throw in a little BAND OF BROTHERS, and you’ve got one hell of a read, Third Eye Faithful.
We’ll be having writer KURTIS J. WIEBE and artist TYLER JENKINS in store at Third Eye Annapolis on Saturday 3/17 to sign copies of PETER PANZERFAUST as well, so make sure you snag your copy this week, and hop on early so you can get it signed with these guys come in.

BATMAN #6 – THE BEST BAT-BOOK ON THE STANDS CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH SCOTT SNYDER’S BATMAN #6
Not reading BATMAN? We’ve got issues 1-5 in stock to catch you up.
Scott Snyder’s BATMAN has really become one of our biggest favorites here at Third Eye. We’re totally loving everything about the run, from Snyder’s sharp plotting and storytelling to Capullo’s incredible artwork. Everything here is top shelf stuff, Third Eye Faithful, and this is the kind of BATMAN run that will go down in history as a modern classic. In fact, you might as well make room on your shelves for the graphic novel collection of COURT OF OWLS, ’cause lets face it: it totally deserves a spot next to books like BATMAN YEAR ONE, DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, BATMAN HUSH, and of course, Snyder’s own BATMAN THE BLACK MIRROR.
With a storyline that’s shaking the very foundations of what Batman knows about Gotham City, and introducing a brand new enemy in the ILLUMNATI-like Court of Owls, Snyder has managed to bring a brand new dynamic to the world of Gotham. The story reads like the perfect blend of Jim Lee’s BATMAN HUSH, Frank Miller’s YEAR ONE, and Bruce Timm and Paul Dini’s own BATMAN THE ANIMATED SERIES work. It really has it’s own unique voice, and style, while at the same time feeling truer to the world of BATMAN than anything we’ve read in years.
Now, as we return to the story, and find Batman, hunted and tormented beneath the city he protects, with the vicious Court of Owls assassin TALON on his trail, we only have one question: how can this get anymore awesome? We’re going to find out with this week’s BATMAN #6, Third Eye Faithful.
Haven’t been reading the flagship BATMAN title? We’ve got copies of issues 1-5 in stock to catch you up to this week’s #6.
If you were a fan of BATMAN THE BLACK MIRROR, or just plain enjoy great comics, we highly recommend jumping aboard this one, folks. You’ll love it.

ARMY OF DARKNESS ONGOING #1 KICKS OFF A BRAND NEW ERA FOR ASH, AND AS BIG EVIL DEAD / AoD FANS ALL WE CAN SAY IS HAIL TO THE KING
Many of you know that we’re big fans of many cult movies, and old school horror flicks. And, while the legend of ARMY OF DARKNESS has grown so much over the last couple of decades, that it’s pretty damn well known compared to back in the day, we gotta say: it’s still entertaining as all get out each time we watch it.
So, when we saw that DYNAMITE ENTERTAINMENT, the folks who’ve done a great job reviving things like VOLTRON, serving up the GAMES OF THRONES goodness, and dishing out the bloody awesomeness of THE BOYS, were going to be kicking off a brand new ARMY OF DARKNESS ongoing series, we couldn’t help but get stoked.
Now, a brand new chapter in the world of ARMY OF DARKNESS begins, as the evil of the Necronomicon spreads across the cosmos, and Ash must find a new ally in his war against the deadites. Who is the woman named ‘Ash’? And, what connection does she have to Ashley J. Williams? And, just who is the alien Deadite creature who follows her across time and space?
This sounds like a blast, Third Eye Faithful, and we cannot wait to check it out this Wednesday.

UNCANNY X-FORCE VOL.2 DEATHLOK NATION TPB DELIVERS THE SECOND SLAB OF RICK REMENDER’S AMAZING UNCANNY X-FORCE SERIES IN SOFTCOVER THIS WEDNESDAY
One of the BEST monthly Marvel series on the stands, folks, if you’re STILL not reading UNCANNY X-FORCE, you really need to pick up the first trade (in stock now, UNCANNY X-FORCE the APOCALYPSE SOLUTION), and jump on board this amazing new ongoing series which delivers some of the best X-Men storytelling we have seen in a very, very long time.
The series began with a bang, as Arch-Angel assembles a team of mutants to do what must be done, but not discovered: kill Apocalypse. Why so clandestine? Well, see,  Apocalypse just happens to be a child… and, killing kids, even if they’re En Sabah Nur, is a big time X-Men no-go.
Featuring an incredible dynamo creative team of Rick Remender, and his stable of amazing artists ranging from Jerome Opena to Rafael Albuquerque to Esad Ribic and more, this series really is one of the best written, best illustrated books on the stands.
And, this week, the second volume is now available in softcover, after seeing the hardcover go out of print for a hot minute there.
X-Force quickly learns there are innumerable and varying potential futures awaiting mankind. Among them exists only one constant: the rise of the Deathloks! Seeded in our present they grow, spreading across all possibilities, infiltrating the fate of mankind. One thing stands in their way: a man who shouldn’t exist.
They come in waves, an army of time-displaced Deathlok troopers forged from the Marvel Universe’s greatest warriors — Captain America, Spider-Man, Elektra, Cyclops, the Thing, and more… and their one directive: FANTOMEX MUST DIE!
Find out how this killer story sets up the current UNCANNY X-FORCE arc, TRIAL OF FANTOMEX, as well as how it links into the DARK ANGEL SAGA.

GLORY DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY FROM IMAGE COMICS, FOLLOWING UP IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF LAST MONTH’S KILLER NEW PROPHET SERIES! THIS ONE IS FREAKIN’ INCREDIBLE!
PLUS! Meet writer JOE KEATING at THIRD EYE this APRIL!
A POST-MODERN SCI-FI TWIST ON WONDER WOMAN THAT BREAKS ALL THE RULES, AND KICKS ASS ALL THE WAY THROUGH
IMAGINE THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO mixed with WONDER WOMAN.
Holy crap, am I excited about this one, or what? Ross Campbell’s artwork looks INSAAAAAAAAANE, and Joe Keatinge is hitting home runs in a major way with the storytelling on this.
Just like the EXTREME revival brought us PROPHET last month, and totally blew our minds with the awesomeness that was Brandon Graham and Simon Roy, this month brings us GLORY, and folks: again, I say, HOLY CRAP.
A post-modern spin on the WONDER WOMAN concept that brings new ideas to the table, and breaks all the rules along the way, GLORY is a superhero saga for a new generation, and just like PROPHET brought a brand new spin to the world of post-apocalyptic sci-fi, so does GLORY to the world of super-heroines.
If you were ever big on Alan Moore’s PROMETHEA, Jim Starlin’s CAPTAIN MARVEL, or heck, even more recent post-modern spins on superhero arch-types like INVINCIBLE and IRREDEEMALE, then you will love this smart, visceral new ongoing series.
The artwork of Ross Campbell is incredible, as he brings the energy and excitement of manga and the detail and immersive quality of artists like Geoff Darrow and Moebius. Bloody, brutal, and beautiful, Ross’s art is a perfect compliment tot he smart new story that Keatinge is telling.
This issue is a fresh, easy-to-jump into first issue, where you need no prior knowledge of GLORY as a character, and can jump aboard for an exciting new take.
Glory tells these tory of Gloriana Demeter, a literal child of two worlds, who finds herself torn between her mother’s people and her father’s, and of course, they’re both at war.
The series really conjures up a feel that is actually comparable to Stieg Larson’s “THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO”, and merges that into a post-modern, bigger-than-life kind of superhero story.
All I can say is: BUY THIS BOOK.
Joe Keatinge will be in-store promoting GLORY and, doing a launch signing for issue #2 of his upcoming new series HELL YEAH this April. Click here for the details.

RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #6 – The ultimate DC NEW 52 Anti-Hero continues to leave a trail of mayhem in this killer NEW 52 series
We are totally digging the RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS series from TEEN TITANS writer SCOTT LOBDELL and the incredibly talented KENNETH ROCAFORT. Maybe it’s cause we’re just plain huge RED HOOD fans, or maybe it’s cause Rocafort’s artwork is AMAZING, but no matter what: this book RULES.
Now, in this week’s RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #6, we learn how Jason Todd and Starfire met, and just what it was that bonded them together in a way that neither could have imagined.
A crucial piece of DC NEW 52 world-building, we’re pretty stoked to see where things go in this brand new issue of RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #6.
Not reading RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS? We’ve got copies of issues 1-5 in stock to catch you up to this Wednesday’s #6.

STAR WARS: DAWN OF THE JEDI #1 – THE MOST EXCITING NEW ONGOING STAR WARS SERIES SINCE STAR WARS LEGACY BEGINS THIS WEDNESDAY WITH STAR WARS: DAWN OF THE JEDI #1
Judging by the response to the very cool DAWN OF THE JEDI #0 prologue (which has already gone out of print, but not to worry, Third Eye Faithful: we’ve still got plenty in stock to hook you up!), you guys are every bit as excited as we are for the new DAWN OF THE JEDI series from STAR WARS LEGACY creative team JOHN OSTRANDER and JAN DUURSEMA.
And, we don’t blame ya one bit, ’cause this book is going to be AWESOME, and THE Star Wars comic to read, going forward into 2012.
Set thousands of years before the Old Republic, before the Clone Wars, before A NEW HOPE, before the Jedi Order even existed, this new series explores exciting unexplored territory in the realm of STAR WARS, and we are STOKED with a capital S to see where it takes us.
On the planet of Tython, in the center of the galaxy, an order of warrior monks strives to maintain peace and to balance the mysterious power known as the Force. But a stranger is coming — one who will destroy both peace and balance, and open the galaxy to exploration and conquest. This is where the STAR WARS Universe as we know it BEGINS, as DAWN OF THE JEDI explores the very beginnings of the Jedi Order.

WINTER SOLDIER #2 - THE HIT NEW MARVEL ONGOING SERIES FEATURING THE RETURN OF THE WINTER SOLDIER HAS US HOOKED!
MISSED ISSUE #1? WE’VE GOT COPIES IN STOCK TO CATCH YOU UP TO THIS WEEK’S #2
We were totally impressed by the first issue of WINTER SOLDIER from a couple of weeks ago, and we are now totally stoked to see what’s next in this week’s WINTER SOLDIER #2.
First off, Ed Brubaker is really in his element serving up the espionage black-ops goodness, and it shines through on Winter Soldier. He brings the same kind of paranoia, and noir-esque stylings that’re demonstrated so well on books like FATALE, SLEEPER and CRIMINAL to the Marvel Universe in a big way here, and we’re loving it.
With Bucky returning from a supposed death (find out the full scoop in the FEAR ITSELF CAPTAIN AMERICA #7.1 one-shot, in stock and available now at both Third Eye locations), and pairing up with the Black Widow to hunt the very soviet super-spies that he trained himself during the Cold War, we’re thrown headfirst into a fascinating new story.
Butch Guice and Bettie Breitweiser are the definition of AWESOME, as his art, and her colors, make for the PERFECT COLD WAR-era feel and tone to the story.
Throw in a supposed assassination plot on the one and only DR. DOOM, some talking Soviet gorillas.. yes, real deal super-gorillas, and folks: you have yourself one piece of KICK-ASS comic book goodness.
Need issue #1? We’ve got copies of #1 in stock to catch you up to this week’s #2.

STEPHEN KING (yes, THAT Stephen King) and LOCKE & KEY / THE CAPE writer JOE HILL team up with ROAD RAGE #1 this Wednesday
You guys know us, we’re big Joe Hill fans, and heck, we’re big Stephen King fans. So, when you take this father and son duo, and you pair ‘em up…. you know we’re gonna get pumped.
And, that’s exactly what we’re getting with ROAD RAGE, a 4-issue limited series from IDW PUBLISHING, that begins this week.
In a tale that pays tribute to Richard Matheson’s classic tale, DUEL, Joe Hill (writer of LOCKE & KEY, and THE CAPE) teams up with his father, Stephen King, to tell a tale of a motorcycle gang that’s being relentlessly pursued by an unknown and unseen assailant in a killer monster truck.
Pure horror awesomeness, you know if you’ve got King and Hill serving up this one, it’s gonna be an awesome read.

CATWOMAN #6 – GUILLEM MARCH continues to kick out the jams, and deliver one of the best runs on CATWOMAN we’ve seen in ages
Another of our DC NEW 52 favorites has been Judd Winick (EXILES, GREEN ARROW, PEDRO & ME) and GUILLEM MARCH’S current run on CATWOMAN, which has served as a fun, action-packed take on the classic Gotham City femme fatale.
March’s artwork looks INCREDIBLE, and really brings a top shelf sense of dynamic adventure to the book, while Winick serves up storytelling that keeps us hooked.
In this week’s #6, Catwoman is busted, and she’s in the custody of the Gotham City P.D. But, it’s not about justice here, and is more about what Catwoman has stolen from the GCPD…. and, she’s about to get an earful about her most complicated relationship: Batman.

This week, the INFESTATION continues, as Abraxis Wren, the most notorious inquisitive in Sharn finds himself on a routine case that ends up dropping him straight into the heart of IDW’s Cthulhu INFESTATION!
This is the first introduction of the D&D Eberron campaign setting to the IDW D&D comics, and we’re pretty darn stoked to see where it heads.
Also, dropping this week is INFESTATION 2: TRANSFORMERS #2, which serves up the steampunk Transformer awesomeness ala Hearts of Steel!

DAREDEVIL #9 - Marvel’s best new series of 2011 continues with this Wednesday’s DAREDEVIL #9 – Not reading this series? Jump on with this issue, and find out why it’s one of our favorites!
Marvel’s new DAREDEVIL ongoing which features the AMAZING art team of Paola Rivera, and Marcos Martin, has really quickly become one of our mainstay favorite Marvel books here at Third Eye.
And, with this Wednesday’s DAREDEVIL #9, writer Mark Waid (writer of IRREDEEMABLE / INCORRUPTIBLE and KINGDOM COME) is delivering a PERFECT jumping on point for the series, as a brand new arc begins!
Fresh off his battle in the pages of  AVENGING SPIDER-MAN, the Mole Man returns, and puts the Man Without Fear into some seriously tricky territory.
The sense of adventure, swashbuckling fun, and awesomeness that runs through the new Daredevil series really has us hooked, and folks: I cannot recommend it enough.

TRANSFORMERS: MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE #2 – The killer new TRANSFORMERS ongoing series continues in the wake of the DEATH OF OPTIMUS PRIME one-shot, and keeps us hooked!
Missed MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE #1? We’ve got copies in stock to catch you up.
We are totally impressed with IDW recently, between the awesome stuff they’ve done with the new TMNT series to their original series like LOCKE & KEY, THE CAPE, and MEMORIAL.. they’re on fire!
And, their recent revival of the TRANSFORMERS comics is just another shining example of the quality IDW is bringing to comics in 2012.
Picking up in the aftermath of the DEATH OF OPTIMUS PRIME one-shot (still in stock and available at both Third Eye locations), TRANSFORMERS MORE THAN MEETS THE EYES is a killer new ongoing series that shows us the Autobots trapped in space, their ship critically damaged, and their forces depleted.
And, now, an enigmatic character by the name of Skids arrives on the scene, guns blazing, and no one knows what his story may be.
We’re loving the new direction of the TRANSFORMERS-verse in 2012, and we highly recommend jumping aboard.

WOLVERINE #301 - A BOLD NEW ERA FOR WOLVERINE HAS BEGUN, AS ISSUE #300 KICKS OFF THE MOST KICK-ASS NEW WOLVERINE STORY ARC WE’VE SEEN IN AGES!
From the writer of WOLVERINE & THE X-MEN and INCREDIBLE HULK
We were totally impressed with issue #300 of WOLVERINE, which kicked off a brand new direction and arc for the ongoing series, and returned it to it’s original legacy numbering, and now, we’re stoked to see where things head.
Personally, I’ve always been a sucker for those killer Wolverine in Japan story lines, where legions of ninjas and samurais get carved to pieces, and this new one, is no exception to the rule.
The new Silver Samurai has made his debut, and he’s looking to challenge Logan as a show of force. And, meanwhile, the war between the Yakuza and the Hand is threatening to tear all of Tokyo apart.
To make matters even worse…. one of Wolverine’s fiercest foes will be retuning to make matters even worse.
No high concept hook here, folks, just a KICK-ASS, straight-forward, and awesome WOLVERINE series, this is an incredibly fun read, and we highly recommend checking it out.
Missed issue #300? No worries, we’ve got plenty of copies in stock to catch you up to this week’s #301.

ULTIMATE COMICS SPIDER-MAN by BENDIS VOL.1 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY IN COLLETED FORMAT.. JUMP ON BOARD THE BEST DAMN SPIDER-MAN COMIC WE’VE READ IN AGES WITH THIS FIRST VOLUME!
One of the biggest Marvel hits of 2011 arrives in collected format this Wednesday, with ULTIMATE COMICS SPIDER-MAN vol.1, and folks, we gotta tell you: READ THIS BOOK.
Seriously, one of the best new Marvel titles to debut, Bendis is at his best on this one, and it shows in a big way. He’s telling a fresh new story, with the kind of energy that we saw on the early issues of the original ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN run, and we’re loving it.
Combine that with the uber-talented Sara Pichelli, who’s artwork gets better, and better with each new issue, and you have yourself one hell of an awesome comic, Third Eye Faithful.
This hardcover collects the first 5 issue story arc of the brand new ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN series featuring the new Spider-Man, Miles Morales, and gives you everything you need to jump aboard one of the best new Marvel books on the stands.
We’re loving the story Bendis is crafting here, as we learn just who Miles is, why he’s taken up the mantle of the deceased Peter Parker as Spider-Man, and how his powers differ from the original Spider-Man.
It really is good stuff, and you should hop aboard, if you’re not already reading. Wanna jump onto the monthly series? We’ve got all the back issues 1-6 in stock now, or you can catch up with the graphic novel, and then hop aboard with issue #6 ( the most current in the run ).

PIGS: HELLO CRUEL WORLD TRADE PAPERBACK DROPS THIS WEDNESDAY, COLLECTING THE COLD WAR THRILLER FROM IMAGE COMICS
PIGS was a kick-ass little limited series that debuted from IMAGE COMICS last summer, and totally hooked us with it’s high-action, and super-compelling espionage-driven storytelling.
Set in 1962, a KGB sleeper cell was placed in Cuba. Half a century later, the cell’s children are assigned to overthrow the American government. The question though, is why? And, why now?
This is a chilling look at the Cold War, and modern terrorism that will give you the perfect follow-up to other espionage-fueled favorites like THE LOSERS, and WHO IS JAKE ELLIS?

By taking top notch, heavyweight superstar artists, and having them switch on and off to deliver an incredible-looking story, Marvel has really perfected what makes a great team-up story work. In other words: it has to have a kick-ass story, it has to have incredible artwork, and it needs to only be 3-4 issues, per arc.

SACRIFICE #3 – THE INDIE HIT OF THE YEAR CONTINUES WITH THIS WEDNESDAY’S SACRIFICE #3 – JOY DIVISION FANS VS. AZTEC SUN GODS? CRAZY, PSYCHEDELIC AWESOMENESS
Missed issues 1 & 2? We’ve got copies to catch you up
The red-hot indie buzz book of the year, SACRIFICE, continues this Wednesday, and we are totally stoked about it. The combination of Humphries’s incredible storytelling, and high concept plot, with Dalton Rose’s INCREDIBLE artwork make this book a MUST-READ, and folks, we cannot get enough.
We know that you’ve probably heard by now about the scarcity of SACRIFICE, and how it has very limited distribution, but this is more than just a hot book, folks, this is a ground-breaking new series that really establishes Humphries as a major talent to watch, and with some really rad projects on the way, we think it’s happening already. :)
What’s up with the limited distro on SACRIFICE? This was a book that only select shops around the country were offered a chance to carry, and we’re pretty honored to be one of the retailers that was lucky enough to bring this super-rad new series to you guys here.
What’s the scoop on SACRIFICE? The story, which has been described as Joy Division (the late, great post-punk band that gave way to New Order) fans meets Aztec sun gods, focuses on a young man named Hector who could only be described as a troubled fellow. After getting out of the hospital after a suicide attempt, we see that the seizures he’s experiencing can cause him to travel back in time to the Aztec civilization where they want to: A) figure out which god sent him, and b) how they should kill him depending on the answer to question A.
We love the series, the artwork, the story, everything… it’s an amazing treat, and is one of the best looking self-published books we’ve seen.
Highly recommended, if you’re not reading SACRIFICE, we recommend jumping on board now.
Need issues 1 & 2? We’ve got copies of each in stock to catch you up.
