THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS @ THIRD EYE COMICS FOR WEDNESDAY 2/22/12

AQUAMAN #6 CONTINUES THE STREAK OF AWESOMENESS THAT GEOFF JOHNS & IVAN REIS HAVE BEEN RUNNING WITH THIS DC NEW 52!
Need Issues 1-5? We’ve got copies in stock to catch you up!
One of the biggest DC NEW 52 hits, 6 months in, has turned out to be AQUAMAN, and while we know that may come to a surprise to many of you, we gotta admit: we knew this one was gonna be a rager. Why? ‘Cause hot damn, it’s GEOFF JOHNS and IVAN REIS, the creative team behind BLACKEST NIGHT and BRIGHTEST DAY.
Also, after seeing what Johns had done with AQUAMAN in BRIGHTEST DAY, we really had confidence that his take on the character would be a good one, and sure enough: he’s really hitting home-runs on this book.
Just like he once breathed new life into GREEN LANTERN, and other DCU characters, Johns is bringing a new kind of energy, and awesomeness to the DCU with his revival of AQUAMAN as one of the DC NEW 52′s biggest hits.
The book has this great subtle balance of dry humor (cleverly poking fun at what we as comic fans have been doing for years: Aquaman’s powers and origins), and bigger-than-life, almost regal superhero action that reminds us as readers that: Hey, AQUAMAN is a badass who rules the entire ocean… and that’s a lot more impressive than it seems at first glance.
6 issues in: and folks, we can pretty much say that this is one of the best NEW 52s on the stands. If you’re not reading it yet, you really need to pick up those early issues and give it a shot. You’ll be stoked you did.
Where’s the book heading after the first initial arc? We’re being drawn deeper into the mystery of just who sunk Atlantis.. and where the path leads, well, it’s not a very pretty place.
Missed the first 5 issues? We’ve got issues 1-5 in stock to catch you up to this week’s #6.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME #1 FROM IMAGE COMICS DELIVERS A DARK, NEW TWIST ON DOROTHY AND THE WIZARD OF OZ MYTHOS
This book kicks ass! This was one of the advances we got a chance to sit down with last week, and folks: I’m glad we did! This book is killer. I was already intrigued by the concept, and the stellar artwork, but after reading #1, I’m hooked.
So, what’s the scoop? Meet Dee, Dee’s life is in turmoil when her parents are killed in a freak tornado. And, now, returning to Kansas for the funeral after spending five years in LA, Dee discovers Emeraldsville is the same unexciting place it was when she left — until a bizarre string of unexplained murders begins.
Now, with an unknown killer closing in, the events of one night in 1959 begin to unravel as a portal to a world of horror opens, a portal paved with yellow bricks…
Taking the original ideas and concepts of the Wizard of Oz stories, and bringing a dark, modern twist to them mixed with some nightmarish otherworldly surrealism, NO PLACE LIKE HOME is a fantastic, fresh new read that fits in nice with IMAGE’S spring line-up. Totally rad, we highly recommend snagging issue #1 and giving this one a shot.

RICK REMENDER’S UNCANNY X-FORCE CONTINUES TO IMPRESS WITH THE CURRENT TRIAL OF FANTOMEX STORY IN THIS WEEK’SUNCANNY X-FORCE #23
Wanna Jump On Board? Start with UNCANNY X-FORCE #20 & #21
You guys hear it from us nearly every month: we LOVE Uncanny X-Force. Seriously, this title has been one of the most consistently entertaining and satisfying Marvel books on the stands, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down.
The current arc which follows up on the epic events of the DARK ANGEL SAGA, takes the X-Force into some very interesting territory as Rick Remender explores the multiverse-esque territory of OTHERWORLD, and plunges the X-Force into the insanity.
Between this, and SECRET AVENGERS, we’ve never seen CAPTAIN BRITAIN be so damn cool, and we’re loving every second of it.
The plot of this arc is focusing on the origins, and enigmatic motives of FANTOMEX, as well as his mysterious connections to the Braddock family, and Psylocke, in particular.
Plus: we’re seeing more of Wolverine and Age of Apocalypse NIGHTCRAWLER throwing down in Otherworld, and Psylocke transforming into Lady Briton.
Plus: Deadpool loses his head. :)
All in all, another ass-kicker of an issue for  UNCANNY X-FORCE, if you’re not reading this one, folks, we highly recommend snagging issue #20 and catching up from there.

TRANSFORMERS: ROBOTS IN DISGUISE #2 – THE SECOND OF THE TWO NEW ONGOING TRANSFORMERS SERIES CONTINUES TO ROCK
Need #1? We’ve Got Copies In Stock to Catch You Up
IDW has been doing an amazing job recently with all their licensed books, and the stuff they’ve been doing with the revival of their TRANSFORMERS titles has been freakin’ amazing.
It all began with the DEATH OF OPTIMUS PRIME one-shot, which set up everything that needed to be in place for the two ongoing series running now: MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE and ROBOTS IN DISGUISE. And now, we’re getting a double dose of Transformers awesomeness every month.
What’s the scoop on ROBOTS IN DISGUISE? This series picks up immediately after the events of DEATH OF OPTIMUS PRIME, and focuses on the Transformers and the war that rages on with Cybertron. It fits in nicely with More than Meets the Eye, as this is focusing on the characters who were left behind on Cybertron after MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE #1.
Plus, it’s literally loaded with the kind of awesomeness you want out of a Transformers comics: familiar Autobots, fan favorite Decepticons, and some stellar artwork. Tons of big robots beating the snot out of each other doesn’t hurt either, ya know?
Need issue #1? We’ve got copies in stock to catch you up to this week’s #2. We’ve also got the DEATH OF OPTIMUS PRIME available to get you jumped onto the stuff that’s currently going on with TRANSFORMERS.

BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT #6  - BANE MAKES HIS GRAND RETURN IN THIS WEDNESDAY’S BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT #6 – A MUST READ, AS WE MOVE CLOSER TO THE RELEASE OF “DARK KNIGHT RISES”
BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT has been quickly turning into a major favorite here at the store, with more and more people getting into this incredible-looking BATMAN title. And, folks: yes, the art on the cover is just as good on the inside. :)
Seriously though, it may have taken this series a couple of issues to find it’s footing, and where it “fit” in the DC NEW 52, but now that it has, holy crap: we are hooked.
Subtle hints have been dropped throughout the run so far, since issue #1, about the return of Bane, and now, with the perfect timing of Bane’s own appearance coming up in the DARK KNIGHT RISES, it looks like David Finch and crew are bringing the classic BATMAN baddie back in a BIG way.
As one of the premiere BATMAN titles in the DC NEW 52, Dark Knight has delivered an amazing issue after issue of BATMAN awesomeness, and now, it looks like we’re going to finally get a modern-day, definitive BANE story, which is something I’ve been waiting to see since VENGEANCE OF BANE and KNIGHTFALL way back when.
Wanna get caught up on this series? We’ve got issues 1-5 in stock now to catch you up to this Wednesday’s #6.

MARK MILLAR (Writer of OLD MAN LOGAN, KICK-ASS, NEMESIS) delivers his SUPERIOR Hardcover this Wednesday – Imagine KICK-ASS meets Superman! A Must-Read!
As you guys know, we’re pretty big fans of Mark Millar here at Third Eye. Mark Millar is the writer of many epic Third Eye favorites, like KICK-ASS, OLD MAN LOGAN and NEMESIS.
So, when we heard Millar was going to be bringing his magic touch to the Superman mythos, with the story SUPERIOR, we got pretty stoked.
And, folks: this one totally kicks ass. SUPERIOR is the story of a teenage kid named Simon Pooni. Simon had it all going for him, until he fell victim to multiple sclerosis, and began to miss all the little things he used to take for granted. Now, Simon sees the worlds of movies and comics as one of his few escapes, and while his friends feel that iconic superhero SUPERIOR is out of date, and behind the times, Simon still idolizes him.
And, then one day, a space monkey (yes, a monkey in an astronaut’s suit.. a space monkey!) shows up, and grants Simon’s greatest wish: to be SUPERIOR.
Now, a teenage kid stuck in the body of the world’s most powerful superhuman, Simon finds himself unable to control his newfound abilities, and unable to explain the transformation to his friends and family… and the monkey who granted him these powers? Well, lets just say his motives are not what they seem.
An incredible read that will appeal to fans of KICK-ASS, IRREDEEMABLE, THE CAPE, and STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE, we highly recommend snagging a copy of SUPERIOR this Wednesday at Third Eye.

ULTIMATE COMICS SPIDER-MAN #7CONTINUES ANOTHER OF MARVEL’S BEST NEW LAUNCH SERIES FROM LAST YEAR! NOT READING THIS GREAT SERIES? SNAG ISSUES 1-6 OR THE FIRST GRAPHIC NOVEL, IN STOCK NOW!
Ultimate Spider-Man continues this Wednesday at Third Eye, and we are loving this series more, and more. Brian Michael Bendis is kicking out some of the best work of his career on the new Ultimate Spidey title, and continues to impress us with the innovative new directions and approaches he’s taking to the iconic Spider-Man mythos.
The story of Miles Morales is fresh, and interesting, and we love the exploration of the character’s new powers, as well as his origins, and how he’s impacting pre-existing Ultimate Universe characters.
In this week’s ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #7, the world learns of the new Spider-Man’s existence, as a whole, and the Scorpion decides to make a grand return to New York City.
Killer art, killer storytelling, this series totally deserves the hype it’s been getting as one of the best new launches from Marvel last year.
Wanna catch up? We’ve got issues 1-6 in stock now, as well as the first graphic novel (if you prefer to catch up that way), to get you caught up to this week’s #7.

THE SECOND ISSUE OF PROPHET ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY, DELIVERING MORE POST-APOCALYPTIC SPACE DYSTOPIA AWESOMENESS!
A MUST-READ! SCOTT PILGRIM meets CONAN THE DESTROYER!
One of our favorite new IMAGE titles of 2012 so far has been PROPHET, which delivers the most unique, most compelling read we’ve seen this year so far.
KING CITY creator BRANDON GRAHAM delivers an amazing blend of humor, sci-fi awesomeness, and just plain comic weirdness that screams out AWESOME, paired up with the very talented SIMON ROY, who’s artwork conjures up a surrealistic blend of Eurocomic greats like MOEBIUS, and HERGE, and perfectly captures the tone and mood of Graham’s story. In other words: this book is so freakin’ good, it’s beyond belief.
So, last month, the first issue debuted, and many of you, myself included, loved the very unique style of storytelling Graham brought to the book, as it felt like you were READING a video game, in a sense. Itemized inventory lists, world maps, and stats were all common-place as narrative tools in PROPHET, and we loved it.
What’s the story about? Meet John Prophet. A cloned super-soldier, who finds himself waking up lost and alone on a future version of Earth, which is overrun by alien monsters and civilizations, massive jellyfish cities, and danger at every turn. All John knows is that he must survive, and beneath that primal urge to survive: he has a mission.
We love the world that Graham and Roy have built, and it truly is one of those uniquely immersive comic book experiences that just grabs you in a major way. Whether it’s the small details, the killer shots of the desolate wasteland of a landscape, or the blood-thirsty mutant monsters that Prophet finds himself carving to shreds in hope of finding something edible… this book is amazing.
I can’t give it any higher praise, folks, you’ve gotta just give it a shot yourselves.
Need the first issue? No worries, we’ve still got plenty of copies in stock to catch you up to the second issue this Wednesday.

BATMAN VS. BANE COLLECTS ESSENTIAL POST-KNIGHTFALL BANE STORIES FROM BATMAN’S PAST! A MUST-READ!
With Bane playing a major part in the upcoming DARK KNIGHT RISES film, we’re pretty stoked to see DC COMICS re-issuing some of the now-classic BANE stuff that’s been out of print for many years, in these slick trade paperbacks.
This week, DC delivers one highly anticipated collection of Bane stuff, with the BATMAN VS. BANE trade paperback, which collets the Batman: Bane one-shot, and the BATMAN BANE OF THE DEMON limited series. In this story, Bane returns, and he’s out to break Gotham City as he broke Batman.
And, to get the job done, what does he need? Oh, just a few nuclear weapons.
Featuring Ra’s al Ghul and Talia, this is a must-read BANE story that stands the test of time, and really holds up well.

GET CROSSED FOR FREE WITH THE CROSSED: GET INFECTED #0 ISSUE THIS WEDNESDAY AT THIRD EYE!
Haven’t read Crossed yet? Try the vey first chapter of the original series with the special CROSSED: C-Day Get Infected issues!
Absolutely free while supplies last!
You’ve been hearing us rant, and rave about CROSSED for quite some time now, right? You’ve heard how it’s the most intense, and in-your-face horror comic on the stands, and how it manages to even surpass WALKING DEAD in terms of punch-in-the-gut shocks and twists, right?
Well, now’s your chance to try CROSSED totally free, as we’re going to be giving away the original #0 issue of CROSSED in these very special CROSSED: GET INFECTED issues this week at Third Eye.
What is CROSSED all about? Well, from the writer of THE BOYS, and the artist of NEONOMICON, Garth Ennis and Jacen Burrows, comes the final word in survival horror. Crossed focuses in on a disease that breaks out, causing those infected to develop a cross-like rash on their face, and the disease fills them with the desire to commit acts of pure evil and depravity.
The scary thing about CROSSED versus the more traditional flesh-eating zombie approach? The Crossed still remain their sentient brains and skills ,so if they once knew how to shoot a gun, they can still shoot a gun… and if they want to put together a plan on how to get you, they know how to. And, that’s what truly makes CROSSED so disturbing.
What’s the GET INFECTED edition? This is a reprint of the #0 issue that starts the whole series, and is the first chapter of the CROSSED graphic novel. We’re giving it away FREE to those of you interested in trying the series out.

SECRET AVENGERS #23 - RICK REMENDER’S “THE DESCENDANTS” STORY ARC GETS IT’S SECOND CHAPTER THIS WEDNESDAY – PICK UP ISSUE #22 AND HOP ABOARD THIS BOOK, AS IT’S LOOKING TO BE THE NEXT BIG BREAKOUT STAR FROM UNCANNY X-FORCE WRITER RICK REMENDER!
SECRET AVENGERS is now on the list of must-read Marvel titles, and why is that? ‘Cause Rick freakin’ Remender is writing it, Third Eye Faithful, oh, and lets not forget the incredible art team of artist GABRIEL HARDMAN and colorist BETTIE BREITWEISER, which make this book look SO DAMN COOL.
Seriously though, if you haven’t yet picked up SECRET AVENGERS #22, and jumped aboard, then you are missing out on what is going to be one of the biggest Marvel arcs of the year.
Remender has worked some serious magic with his run on UNCANNY X-FORCE, as well as his recent work on VENOM, so we’re totally stoked to see where he takes everyone’s favorite covert ops AVENGERS unit.
And, right from the get-go, he’s taking things into big directions, as he puts together a brand new SECRET AVENGERS team, consisting of characters like Hank Pym, the Irredeemable Ant-Man, Beast, Valkyrie, Captain Britain, Black Widow, Venom, and team-leader, HAWKEYE.
Throw in the crazy, over-the-top idea of a country being formed by super-villains FOR super-villains, and a crazed gathering of super-adaptoids that have somehow gained sentience and decided to eliminate ALL superhuman life.. and well, you’ve got yourself one banger of a read.
Now, the question we’re going to find answered in this week’s SECRET AVENGERS #23, is WHO ARE THE DESCENDANTS, and which SECRET AVENGER is going to die, die, die?
Also: Hardman and Breitweiser’s art = AMAZING. Simply put, this book looks incredible, with the same coloring treatment as WINTER SOLDIER, and the unique, and refreshing art of Hardman… it’s an unbelievably cool read.
Need issue #22 to jump aboard with? We’ve got copies in stock to catch you up to this week’s #23.

IMAGE’S NEAR DEATH ARRIVES IN TRADE PAPERBACK THIS WEDNESDAY, FEATURING A KILLER MODERN DAY CRIME NOIR STORY THAT’LL BLOW YOUR MIND!
A MUST FOR FANS OF “CRIMINAL”, “FATALE” & “100 BULLETS”
Here’s one that really grabbed us last year, and it’s now available in trade paperback format. Image’s NEAR DEATH, was a tight little limited series that delivered some of the raddest crime noir storytelling we’ve seen outside of noir heavyweights like CRIMINAL and 100 BULLETS.
This critically acclaimed crime series tells the story of Markham, a professional killer who has a near death experience during a botched mission. And, during that near death experience, he sees every single person he’s put in the grave… now, determined to avoid returning to the Hell he glimpsed, Markham has dedicated himself to balancing the scales. He’s going to save a life for every life he’s taken, and he’s taken a lot of lives.
A killer read, with some stellar artwork, I highly recommend snagging this one if you’re into the crime noir stuff.

DC NEW 52′s I VAMPIRE #6 CONTINUES TO DELIVER ONE OF THE MOST WELL-DONE BLENDINGS OF THE DC UNIVERSE and HORROR COMICS THAT WE’VE SEEN!
A must-read from the writer of LAST OF THE GREATS & ECHOES
Need issues 1-5? We’ve got ‘em in stock to catch you up.
Third Eye Faithful, if you’re not yet reading I VAMPIRE, you need to really jump on board this one… it’s amazing. One of the best kept secrets of the DC NEW 52, I VAMPIRE is that rarely so-well-executed blending of a superhero universe and a horror comic.
Make no mistake: I VAMPIRE is a straight up, no-holds-barred, modern gothic kinda horror story that will grab you by the throat, and leave you drained… but, set against the backdrop of the DC UNIVERSE itself, which makes for some really fascinating story possibilities.
Joshua Hale Fialkov, an incredible writer who’s wowed us before with books like ECHOES and most recently, LAST OF THE GREATS, is really doing a fine job with I VAMPIRE.
Anyways, the saga of Mary, the Queen of Blood, and I VAMPIRE continues this week in I VAMPIRE #6, and we are stoked.
Not reading this one? We’ve got issues 1-5 in stock to catch you up to this week’s #6.

TED MCKEEVER DELIVERS TOTALLY SUBVERSIVE, TOTALLY OVER-THE-TOP SKATEBOARD COMIC AWESOMENESS WITH MONDO FROM IMAGE COMICS THIS WEDNESDAY!
This one really looks like a blast, and we cannot wait to crack it open this Wednesday. From indie superstar Ted McKeever (META 4), comes this killer, over-the-top hilarious new title that combines a lot of our favorite things here at Third Eye.
What’s MONDO? Catfish’s daily grind of ‘enhancing’ poultry comes to a halt when he is accidentally tripped up by a loose chicken, causing him to fall victim to his own process. What proportions of his that were once human are now beyond anything normal. Add villainous corporate and military big-wigs, a roller-skating weapon-totating girl named Kitten Kaboodle, a gang of tattooed babies, and there’s still that enormous beach monster…. and what you have is MONDO, in all it’s raging glory.
For some reason, this series just reminds me of all the killer artwork you’d see on old school skateboard decks from the ’80s. I love it.

WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #6 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY, CONTINUING TO IMPRESS THE HECK OUT OF US AT THIRD EYE!
Catch Up With WOLVERINE & THE X-MEN 1-5, all in stock now!
WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN has consistently, issue after issue, impressed the hell out of us. Top shelf artwork, top shelf storytelling, this book is really an epic read, and we cannot get enough.
Jason Aaron is bringing a unique blend of quirky storytelling, and action-packed awesomeness to this book that really gels perfectly with the art team he’s got in Chris Bachalo and Nick Bradshaw.
We love the dynamic of Kid Omega, Wolverine, and many of the new additions to the X-Men, like Kid Gladiator, and that Brood student. It’s little touches like these that really make the book such a fun read, and makes it stand out from any other past X-Titles.
Not reading WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN? We’ve got issues 1-5 in stock now to catch you up to this Wednesday’s #6.

Having escaped from the clutches of the Jabberwocky, Alice sets off on a journey through the realm of madness and terror. Along the way she befriends another strange captive of this world and will quickly learn that not everyone is what they seem.

INVINCIBLE ULTIMATE COLLECTION VOL.7 ARRIVES THIS WEEK, DELIVERING ANOTHER DOSE OF ROBERT KIRKMAN’S INCREDIBLE SUPERHERO SAGA!
INVINCIBLE is one of those comic series that’s so good, and so damn compelling, that there’s many different formats that people follow it in. Whether it’s the single issues, the trade paperbacks, or as is the case this week, the over-sized hardcovers…. you guys love INVINCIBLE, and we know why: ’cause it’s AMAZING.
Anyways, we also know that the book is just as spoiler-sensitive as WALKING DEAD, so the less we say about what goes down in the latest ULTIMATE COLLECTION (which collects issues #71-#84), the better..
But, for those of you not yet hip to INVINCIBLE, we’ve gotta take a moment to preach the glory of this killer comic series.
INVINCIBLE is a superhero series written by Robert Kirkman, the creator of the WALKING DEAD, and just like WALKING DEAD does an amazing job of taking a zombie outbreak and turning it into a compelling, character-driven story that keeps you on the edge of your seat, so does INVINCIBLE.
Kirkman gives us a superhero book that has REAL people, and as much as we love our books grim and gritty, we don’t mean like WATCHMEN-real, but like REAL REAL, like WALKING DEAD real. In other words, these characters talk and behave like people you might know in the real world. And, it’s that strong characterization that really makes this series pop… because, when you combine believable, and well-rounded characters with the kind of bigger-than-life superhero stories that Kirkman tells… it really makes an impact.
I could rave on, and on about how great INVINCIBLE is, but let me just say this: trust us, it’s AWESOME.
Wanna jump on board? As we’ve said, there’s multiple ways to get into it, whether it’s the ultimate collection hardcovers (which usually collect 2-3 trades per volume), the individual softcover TPBs, or the INVINCIBLE Compendium (the first 9 trades for only $64.99), no matter what though, give it a shot, you’ll be stoked you did.

DEADPOOL #51 – THE SECOND PART OF THE “DEATH OF DEADPOOL” ARC ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY!
BEEN WAITING FOR A GREAT POINT TO JUMP ONTO DEADPOOL START WITH #50, IN STOCK NOW!
We know a lot of you have been waiting for that perfect DEADPOOL arc to jump on board with, and it’s funny, but this DEATH OF DEADPOOL arc is the best place to start. Ironic, right? :)
Seriously though, beginning in last month’s DEADPOOL #50, it looks like the Merc With a Mouth is coming up on his end. And, he needs the help of a few friends to do it. The premise of DEAD is pretty simple: Wade has finally found a weapon actually capable of killing him. And, now he just has to track it down, so he can end his miserable existence.
DEADPOOL #50 serves as a great, accessible jumping on point for new readers, and is the official start of this storyline. The story has a great balance of dark humor to it, and we’re pretty stoked to see where this heads next.
Need issue #50? We’ve got copies in stock to catch you up to this week’s #51.

STAFF PICKS
STEVE: GLORY - I was really impressed with the debut of this one, just like I was with last month’s debut of PROPHET. Joe Keatinge delivers a fascinating story, and Ross Campbell’s art is off-the-chain!
TRISH: SACRIFICE #3 - This series just gets better, and better. Dalton Rose’s artwork is incredible, and the story Humphries is weaving is great.
TORMA:  BATMAN #6 - Can Scott Snyder get any better? Seriouly, he is really kicking ass on BATMAN, and I can’t remember a time I’ve enjoyed the character more.

SHAUN:  PETER PANZERFAUST #1 - Take the mythology of Peter Pan, set it during WW2, and have Peter Pan kicking some serious Nazi butt… and you’ve got yourself an entertaining read!
