This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for

AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #8 — The awesomeness that is AvX continues as we get closer and closer to MARVEL NOW in OCTOBER!
AVENGERS VS X-MEN has really turned out to be the biggest, and best of the MARVEL blockbuster event stories we’ve seen in ages.
It’s been quite some time that we’ve seen such an awesome arc put out by any publisher, and the way that the whole story has been seamlessly coming together, has really had us hooked.
I mean, this storyline is everything you WANT out of a big Marvel story. Amazing storytelling, detailed flashy artwork, a complete roster of fan favorite characters, and a plot that’s simple yet compelling.
At it’s core, AVENGERS VS X-MEN is more than just a big blockbuster story that’s bringing two of Marvel’s biggest teams head to head; there’s a lot more going on here than that.
Avengers vs. X-Men shares much more in common with DC’s Crisis on Infinite Earths or Flashpoint series, as the involvement of the Phoenix, and the direction of the series as a whole, is moving us in a direction for what looks to be a fresh, new line of Marvel titles.
In OCTOBER, and we’ll be sending out more information on this as soon as it becomes available, Marvel will be ending several of their titles to coincide with the conclusion of AVENGERS VS. X-MEN. And, ya know, we’re pretty sure that the PHOENIX is going to have something to do with all that.
Anyways, my point is: AVENGERS VS X-MEN, whether as a long-time Marvel fan, or someone brand new to the Marvel Universe, is THE PERFECT spot to jump into Marvel Comics, as it’s paving the way to an exciting new line of Marvel ongoing series… and plus, it’s really good. :)
As for this week’s AVENGERS VS X-MEN #8, the Phoenix Five (Colossus, Emma Frost, Cyclops, Magick, and Namor) are on the rampage, and they’re not taking any prisoners.
They’re intent on “saving” the world, even if that means destroying it.. and the Avengers are going to have to do everything in their power to prevent this.
Another must-read chapter of AVX, Third Eye Faithful! Don’t sleep on it!

DANGER GIRL / GI JOE #1 UNITES J. SCOTT CAMPBELL, THE REAL AMERICAN HEROES, AND EVERYONE’S FAVORITE DANGER GIRLS INTO ONE AWESOME COMICS!
We’re huge fans of J. SCOTT CAMPBELL’S DANGER GIRL series, and as children of the ’80s and ’90s, how can we not love GI JOE: A REAL AMERICAN HERO?
So, when we heard that Campbell would be bringing his DANGER GIRL book together with the kick-ass and iconic crew of GI JOE… we thought that was pretty darn awesome!
The two lines of characters are a perfect fit, as the world of DANGER GIRL is very reminiscent of GI JOE, and we’re pretty sure that Campbell’s a big fan of the GI JOE stuff judging by the amount of covers and fan art he’s provided for the various incarnations of the series.
Spies! Girls! Ninjas! COBRA! I mean, how can your head NOT explode reading this?
Hop on board with this Wednesday’s DANGER GIRL / GI JOE #1!

MS. MARVEL RETURNS AS CAPTAIN MARVEL IN THE BRAND NEW CAPTAIN MARVEL #1 THIS WEDNESDAY! A MUST-READ WITH STELLAR STORYTELLING, KILLER ARTWORK, AND POTENTIAL TO BE ONE OF THE FRESHEST NEW MARVEL ONGOINGS SINCE WAID’S DAREDEVIL!
We’re huge fans of Carol Danvers here at Third Eye, and while there’s been some pretty epic incarnations of the MS. MARVEL title over the years, we really feel that this newest incarnation of Danvers as CAPTAIN MARVELS is the most promising take yet.
The creative team that’s on board for this is fantastic, with Kelly Sue DeConnick bringing a sharp, smart, and fun story to the book, and artist Dexter Soy bringing an epic, and in-your-face style of art to the series.
The first issue of this series is so impressive that we have the same kind of high hopes for this series that we did Mark Waid’s current DAREDEVIL run when that debuted. Why do we compare the two? There’s just a great sense of style, and innovation that’s present in the first issue of CAPTAIN MARVEL, and DeConnick really knows how to get to the core of what makes Carol Danvers who she is.
In the new CAPTAIN MARVEL series, Carol Danvers has a new name, a new mission… and all the power she needs to make her life a living hell.
Folks, make sure you snag this stellar new MARVEL ongoing series, which looks like it could be one of the early bird launches of the upcoming MARVEL NOW line.

JUSTICE LEAGUE #11 — THE THIRD CHAPTER OF THE VILLAIN’S JOURNEY ARRIVES, AS A BOLD NEW FOE FOR THE JUSTICE LEAGUE IS FORMED!
The flagship of the NEW 52, almost 12 months in, and still one of the most anticipated reads of the month for us. JUSTICE LEAGUE just does not stop, folks, and a lot of this is due in part to the very talented writing of GEOFF JOHNS and stunning artwork of JIM LEE.
I mean, heck, just having JIM LEE on a monthly comic book series is a pretty big deal, but to have him and GEOFF JOHNS working together on the same book? EPIC. EPIC. EPIC.
And, JUSTICE LEAGUE rules. I mean, it rules hard. This current arc, which began in JUSTICE LEAGUE #9, the VILLAIN’S JOURNEY, is doing a fantastic job of introducing a new bad guy to the NEW 52′s JLA, and we’re loving it.
Set several years in the past from the present day DCU, JUSTICE LEAGUE serves as kind of the foundation-building book for the DC NEW 52, as it fleshes out the backstories, and lays the groundwork for the NEW 52 as we know it.
We love the idea of this, because it really helps make the minor tweaks and reimaginings of the NEW 52 more seamless.
Seriously though, if you’re only reading one of the NEW 52, it’s gotta be.. Scott Snyder’s BATMAN. ;) But, if you’re only reading TWO of the NEW 52, then make sure you’re on board with JUSTICE LEAGUE.
We’ve got issues 1-10 in stock now to catch you up to this week’s #11.

SAGA #5 — The biggest IMAGE series of 2012 continues as BRIAN K. VAUGHAN delivers a sci-fi fantasy masterpiece that’s one part FIREFLY, one part GAME OF THRONES, and a whole lotta of awesome in-between.
Wanna catch up? We’ve got issues 1-5 (yes, including #2!) in stock!
One of the best, and most exciting IMAGE debuts of 2012 has gotta be SAGA. I mean, this comic is just plain… GOOD. No matter what genre you’re into, no matter what kind of comics you love, SAGA is the kind of book that EVERYONE should be reading, and I guarantee you, nearly everyone will love to pieces. It’s that freakin’ cool.
A genre mash-up of the best in science fiction, modern fantasy, and political drama, SAGA really channels a feel that’s like a meeting of A GAME OF THRONES, STAR WARS, and Joss Whedon’s FIREFLY/SERENITY world.
Following the tale of two star-crossed lovers and their quest to evade the bounty hunters, security agents, and other soldiers that are in pursuit of them and their child, SAGA is a simple story with the kind of storytelling that makes it one of the most compelling things on the stands.
Vaughan is in true form here, introducing new characters and making them instantly memorable from their first panel, while at the same time never letting the spotlight leave his protagonists.
The world that’s being built in SAGA is an immersive, and interesting one, and that just adds to the exciting and intense nature of the comic.
Great storytelling, great artwork, this ongoing series is a MUST-READ, Third Eye Faithful, and we cannot recommend it enough.
Wanna get caught up? We’ve got ALL issues in stock, 1-4, to catch you up to this Wednesday’s #5.

BEFORE WATCHMEN: SILK SPECTRE #2 — One of our favorites of the BEFORE WATCHMEN titles drops this Wednesday — AMAZING stuff!
The BEFORE WATCHMEN titles have been some of our favorite things to release this Summer, and, I mean, as a huge fan of the original WATCHMEN series, I gotta tell you: these books definitely measure up to the classic.
The creators involved with BEFORE WATCHMEN are bringing their A+ games here, folks, and bringing some of the most passionate comic book crafting that we’ve seen in quite some time. You can definitely sense there’s an overall feeling of “Let’s not mess this one up!”, and so far, it’s definitely working, because these books are all: AMAZING.
The SILK SPECTRE title turned out to be one of our favorites of the line, with Darwyn Cooke’s smart storytelling, and intense melancholy tone, and the addition of the very talented Amanda Conner’s artwork.
There’s a distinct stylistic feel to the SILK SPECTRE series which is kind of reminiscent of an old ’50s romance comic gone wrong. We love it, and the tone of this one may be the darkest, and most in tune with the original spirit of WATCHMEN.
Stellar stuff, Third Eye Faithful, learn what shapes the second Silk Spectre, and just how much influence her mother had on her, in this killer prequel to WATCHMEN.
Wanna get caught up? We’ve got BEFORE WATCHMEN SILK SPECTRE #1 in stock now to catch you up.

STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION / DOCTOR WHO ASSIMILATION #3 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY BRINGING MORE DOCTOR TREK AWESOMENESS
The awesomeness that is STAR TREK / DOCTOR WHO cannot be contained to just one comic, so luckily, we’re getting 7 of them!
Seriously though, IDW is handling this epic crossover perfectly, and we’re loving every second of it. Plus, JK Woodward’s artwork is looking outstanding on this!
The true horror of the Borg / Cybermen alliance has been revealed, but what course of action will Captain Picard and the Doctor agree upon? And will the Doctor’s recently resurfaced memories shed new light on the dilemma?
Wanna get caught up? We’ve got both issues 1 & 2 in stock and available to catch you up to this week’s #3.

X-O MANOWAR #3 — A must-read for fans of PAX ROMANA, this killer new VALIANT Relaunch title is like a perfect mix of SPARTACUS / ROME and INVINCIBLE IRON MAN!
Cutting edge superhero action at it’s finest!
One of our favorite new superhero titles of the Summer, X-O MANOWAR serves as the flagship of the new VALIANT COMICS relaunch, and folks, it does a fantastic job of representing the line.
The whole style that the new VALIANT books seem to be representing is 21st century, cutting-edge takes on the classic superhero genre, and they’re doing a great job of it.
The new X-O MANOWAR is a must for fans of stuff like Jonathan Hickman’s THE RED WING, or PAX ROMANA, as well as MATT FRACTION’S work on INVINCIBLE IRON MAN.
There’s a very cool sense of alt-history sci-fi craziness, mixed with the whole symbiotic battle suit thing that makes the book truly unique, and truly fun.
So, what’s the story about X-O MANOWAR? Well, set during an epic war between the Romans and the Visigoths, a Visigoth warrior finds himself stumbling upon an alien campsite, and being taken prisoner along with several of his fellow warriors.
He realizes the only escape is the experimental bio-armor that the aliens use as battle suits, and finds himself making an escape attempt involving the armor.
Of course, the sentient bio-armor may not be the ally he hoped, and things get pretty interesting when our protagonist finds himself landing in the present day.
Stellar stuff, with great artwork, make sure you snag yourself a copy of X-O MANOWAR, Third Eye Faithful!
Wanna get caught up? We’ve got issues 1 & 2 in stock now to catch you up to this week’s #3.

KISS #2 — You wanted the best? The new KISS series from IDW is KILLER.
You know, if there’s any rock-n-roll band that deserves a comic, it’s KISS. They’re practically flesh-and-blood superheroes themselves, and with songs like GOD OF THUNDER and WAR MACHINE… I mean, c’mon, right?
But seriously, who else, besides KISS, could pull off a comic book series that features them being re-incarnated as gangsters in the 1920s? I know, this sounds ridiculous, but hot damn, IT’S KISS!
Dressed to Kill chapter 2 continues as Kiss unites against the threat of the Elder. Of course, they’ve gotta survive the time-spanning threat of “Wicked” Lester and his demonic minions in 1920s Chicago.
Totally fun, don’t miss the second KISS-UE of the new IDW KISS series.

STUFF OF LEGEND OMNIBUS VOL.1 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY COLLECTING THE FIRST 260 PAGES OF THE STUFF OF LEGEND SAGA INTO ONE MASSIVE, HARDCOVER STORYBOOK-LIKE TOME FOR ONLY $30!
Not reading this series? Jump on board before it becomes a DISNEY film next year!
STUFF OF LEGEND is one of our longest-running favorites at Third Eye, and admittedly, we’ve got a soft spot for this book. It debuted during our first Summer of business at Third Eye, and it’s been the kind of book that’s grown in major ways much like Third Eye itself has grown. I mean, heck, the STUFF OF LEGEND guys were our first major in-store signing!
Now, moving forward a few years, and we’re many installments into the STUFF OF LEGEND saga, and it’s still just as fresh, and just as exciting as it was when it first debuted.
Th3rd World Studios, who recently wowed the heck out of us all with their new FINDING GOSSAMYR series, has brought their keen eye for what makes a damn good looking book to this new STUFF OF LEGEND omnibus edition, and we’re loving it.
A massive 260+ page tome that’s reminiscent of a giant storybook, with a very classy, and nice looking presentation, the STUFF OF LEGEND OMNIBUS collects the first few installments of the STUFF OF LEGEND saga into one mighty book.
And, while I already own the series in softcover, I’m telling ya right now: I’m getting this hardcover!
As for those of you who’re not already on board with what is one of the best new series of the last decade (and trust us, you’re gonna wanna be on board, as Disney is preparing to make this into one of their biggest projects in the next couple of years!), STUFF OF LEGEND is like TOY STORY MEETS SAVING PRIVATE RYAN if it was directed by Guilemo Del Toro.
It’s a dreamy, surrealist kind of all-ages adventure that anyone can appreciate which shows us the story of a young boy being kidnapped by the Boogeyman, and his toys coming to life to rescue him.
When the toys enter the Boogeyman’s realm, they become real deal versions of themselves, and from there, it gets pretty darn interesting.
CP WILSON III’s artwork on this is AMAZING, and folks, you have to see it in person to believe. Wilson is one of the most talented sequential artists working in the field right now with the kind of immersive art style that pulls you in, and doesn’t let go.
The storytelling courtesy of Raicht and Smith is on point, and the two of them put together one hell of a story that has a timeless, and compelling appeal.

MARS ATTACKS #2 —  CHEW writer JOHN LAYMAN is bringing the MARTIAN awesome with the new IDW MARS ATTACKS series
Growing up in the ’80s, I remember loving the hell out of those MARS ATTACKS and DINOSAURS ATTACKS re-issue cards that you could find all over the place. I used to always wonder how cards featuring such gory and gruesome art made it’s way into the most mundane places, and way before Tim Burton made a movie, I was hooked on these crazy, cattle-decapitating little green men.
Now, IDW, who is pretty downright awesome at reviving classic concepts into cutting edge new series is doing a fantastic job with their MARS ATTACKS series by CHEW w river JOHN LAYMAN.
A perfect blend of outrageous action, and dark humor, this book’ll have you AK-AK-AKing the whole way through, and it’s dripping with the gore and mayhem that you came to know and love from the cards way back in the day.

MARK MILLAR’S THE SECRET SERVICE #3 HITS THIS WEDNESDAY, DELIVERING MORE INSANE, VIOLENT AND DARKLY HUMOROUS SUPER-SPY ACTION FROM THE WRITER OF “OLD MAN LOGAN”, “KICK-ASS”, “NEMESIS” and more!
Mark Millar is a big-time Third Eye favorite, and we’re usually pretty keen on his stuff, because, well, lets face it: Millar always delivers. His books are always entertaining as hell, smart, and a blast to read. They’re the best of everything we love about comics, and we just can’t get enough of them.
His new series, THE SECRET SERVICE, is kind of Millar channeling JAMES BOND, telling a tale of what it takes to become a cold-blooded super spy bastard, and showing us the story of a snot-nosed punk and his super-spy uncle who decides to bring him into the life.
It’s violent, its’ funny, it’s clever, and Mark Hamill gets killed in the first issue by a snowmobile. Seriously.
Plus, DAVE GIBBONS, artist and co-creator of WATCHMEN, is handling the art chores, and folks, that right there is pretty damn awesome. He brings a sharp look to the book, and we love the way that he and Millar work together.
Wanna get into it? We’ve got issues 1 and 2 in stock now to catch you up to this week’s #3.

SUNSET Graphic Novel — Christos Gage, writer of ABSOLUTION and more, delivers a stunning modern day crime noir from IMAGE COMICS! MUST-READ!
We’re big fans of Christos Gage, and his work on the cult Marvel favorite AVENGERS ACADEMY, but also his past work on series like AVATAR PRESS’S ABSOLUTION, and when we heard that he had something new coming out from IMAGE / MINOTAUR PRESS (publishers of Joshua Hale Fialkov’s killer ECHOES series), we really got stoked.
SUNSET is a stand-alone graphic novel that delivers an ass-kicker of a crime noir in the tradition of Chandler and Spillane. A two-fisted tale of revenge and redemption, SUNSET is a must.
On the surface, Nick Bellamy looks like any other veteran retiree left behind by a modern world. In reality, Nick is a former enforcer, who stole a fortune and years of freedom from his former mob boss. Now, in the twilight of his life, Nick will lose everything he cares about except two things: revenge… and the chance to die with his guns blazing.
A stellar crime noir set in the modern day, SUNSET is a must-read, Third Eye Faithful.

BOOM! has been doing an excellent job with their new creator-owned series that have been coming out this Summer, and between HIGHER EARTH from SAM HUMPHRIES, and the new EXTERMINATION series by CROSSED: WISH YOU WERE HERE writer SI SPURRIER, they’re on fire.
EXTERMINATION tells the tale of a world where we lost, and they won. In the wake of an apocalyptic alien invasion, the world’s greatest super-heroes and deadliest super-villains must form an alliance to prevent their own extermination.
Now, Nox and Red Reaper, the equivalent of Batman and Doctor Doom, continue to trek across the ravaged American countryside, amassing former friends and foes for the ultimate battle of resistance to the invading alien forces. But when old grievances rear their ugly heads, will the alliance survive the journey intact, or will it be torn apart from the inside out?

BLACKSAD: A SILENT HELL Graphic Novel drops this Wednesday delivering more of this incredible international crime noir hit!
A must for fans of CRIMINAL, MOUSE GUARD, and more!
BLACKSAD is one of our favorites here at Third Eye, and whenever we see a new installment of it getting released here in the states by the fine folks at DARK HORSE, we gotta give it props.
This international smash hit delivers some of the best crime noir storytelling we’ve seen, and we’re really impressed with the sheer talent that goes into the smart storytelling and amazing artwork that’s on display here.
In BLACKSAD: A SILENT HELL, Detective John Blacksad returns, with a new case that takes him to a 1950s New Orleans filled with hot jazz and cold-blooded murder! Hired to discover the fate of a celebrated pianist, Blacksad finds his most dangerous mystery yet in the midst of drugs, voodoo, the rollicking atmosphere of Mardis Gras, and the sinister underbelly it hides.
This is a fantastic read, and not only will it appeal to those of you who dig sleek crime noir storytelling, but also to those of you who can appreciate the art and craft of gorgeous books like STUFF OF LEGEND or MOUSE GUARD.
Wanna try the original BLACKSAD? We’ve got plenty of copies in stock to get you hooked up!

THIRD EYE TOY SPOTLIGHT: TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES RETRO COLLECTOR ACTION FIGURE ASSORTMENT
Dude! There’s so many cool new toys coming out these days, we’re going to have to start featuring some of them in the newsletter.
I had to give some love to these new TMNT figures that’re going to be dropping this week, because they are just too cool.
Many of you are like myself, and grew up in the ages of the TMNT, so the paint jobs, sculpting and likenesses on these brand new figures from Playmates Toys has to strike a chord!
These are a new line of TMNT action figures that’re done in a style that replicates the original figures, but updates the articulation and sculpting to today’s standards. It’s pretty damn cool, huh?
Snag yourself a set this Wednesday at Third Eye!
STAFF PICKS
STEVE: WALKING DEAD #100 - The sound effects alone.. jeez!
TRISH:  WALKING DEAD #100 - Don’t be surprised!
TORMA:  BATMAN #11 - I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE JOKER STORY THAT’S COMING UP NEXT!!

SHAUN:  REVIVAL #1 - Creepy! Love it! Tim Seeley shows he’s not just someone who does (fantastic) campy horror.
RYAN: PUNK ROCK JESUS #1  - This is incredible! Sean Murphy as the sole creator is amazing. Reality shows take over the cloning of Christ. I thought it was a ridiculous concept, but this comic blew me away.
