This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 7/25/12

DEBRIS #1 debuts from IMAGE COMICS this Wednesday delivering a stunning sci-fi odyssey of adventure, swordplay and STEAMPUNK DRAGONS!
I first saw glimpses of Debris when we had writer KURTIS WIEBE out for PETER PANZERFAUST last year, and I gotta tell you, I remember saying: holy crap, this book is going to be an instant hit, and folks, I’m saying it again: this book is going to be a mega-hit for IMAGE. It’s THAT freakin’ awesome.
Featuring the writing talents of PETER PANZERFAUSTS’S KURTIS WIEBE, and the amazing art talents of RILEY ROSSMO (REBEL BLOOD, COWBOY NINJA VIKING), Debris is a unique, futuristic, post-apocalyptic tale that is reminiscent of a classic fantasy sword-and-sorcery epic.. but with a future of dead planets, steampunk dragons and other monstrosities, and more.
In the far future, humanity has doomed the planet Earth to rot and decay, covering her surface with garbage. Now, ancient spirits called the Colossals rise from the debris and attack the remaining survivors, forcing the human race to the brink of extinction.
One warrior woman, Maya, sets out to find the last source of pure water to save the world before the monsters bring it all to an end.
Okay, lets see, reasons why this book is awesome:
1. Riley Rossmo’s art has never looked better. This is downright stunning, featuring vibrant colors, lush textured surroundings, and a tight new focus that is unlike anything he’s ever done before.
2. One of the coolest new concepts of an IMAGE series we’ve seen this year. Debris is one part post-apocalyptic anime in the vein of AKIRA, one part sword-and-sorcery monster-hunting epic that conjures up memories of playing D&D, and a whole lot of cutting edge modern storytelling goodness. Throw in a  very cool, very steampunk aesthetic, and Debris really delivers something unique and special.
3. Tons, and tons of kick-ass steampunk monstrosities, dragons, and other cool beasties that’ve been born out of the junk and garbage that covers the Earth.
4. Giant blaster sword-rifle things!
Folks, trust us: Debris rules. Try it out this week at Third Eye!

BATMAN: INCORPORATED CONTINUES THIS WEDNESDAY IN BATMAN INCORPORATED #3 — Our favorite BATMAN title that’s NOT written by SCOTT SNYDER (Court of Owls).. FIND OUT WHY WE’RE LOVING THIS BOOK!
BATMAN INCORPORATED, is, by far, our favorite BATMAN book that’s NOT the flagship title by SCOTT SNYDER. While Snyder’s is definitely our top pick, BATMAN INC is definitely ranking high up there with it’s killer storytelling by the legendary GRANT MORRISON, and it’s fantastic artwork by CHRIS BURNHAM.
It actually makes an excellent companion series to the flagship BATMAN title, due to the fact that it’s so different, and so unique to what’s going on in the other titles.
And, while we’re loving the mainline BATMAN stuff a lot, it is cool to see this kind of retro cool going on in BATMAN INC. It’s VERY reminiscent of Morrison’s work on ALL STAR SUPERMAN, and I think that may be a big part of the reason why we’re digging on it so much.
The first two issues have been outstanding, and Chris Burnham’s artwork has that fluidity to it’s storytelling that Quitely does, which makes this book very reminiscent of those early issues of BATMAN AND ROBIN under Morrison.
The origin of TALIA in issue #2 was a straight up shout-out to the days of Denny O’Neal and Neal Adams, and we loved every second of it, and now, seeing Bruce’s alter ego MATCHES MALONE on the cover? Hot damn, we’re stoked.
If you want a BATMAN title that takes everything that is iconic and cool about the Dark Knight and piles it into one stellar story, then this is the book for you.
Wanna jump on board? We’ve got issues 1 & 2 in stock now to catch you up to this week’s #3.

DAREDEVIL by MARK WAID VOL.1 TRADE PAPERBACK DROPS THIS WEDNESDAY DELIVERING YOU SOME OF THE BEST DAREDEVIL COMICS IN YEARS!

Mark Waid’s DAREDEVIL has been one of the most impressive new series of the last few years, and like many great cult favorite comics that slowly build huge followings, the early issues of this run have gotten to be very elusive (and expensive).
This is why we are so totally ecstatic about the release of the first six issues in trade paperback.
This stellar book features an amazingly fresh voice with Mark Waid’s writing bringing a new, and compelling angle to a DAREDEVIL who has finally decided to put his pain and misery behind him, and do what he does best: be the man without fear.
The art team really shines on this book, with artists Paolo Rivera and Marcos Martin making each and every issue of this book scream MARVEL POP ART masterpiece. Seriously, the art on this book almost gives it a very surreal, avant-garde kind of feel, which combined with the straight-forward action-packed superhero storytelling of Waid, makes for one hell of an engrossing read.
What’s it about? Matt Murdock is back in New York, but not everyone is happy to see him. Hoping to resuscitate his law practice, he takes on a police-brutality case — but someone is trying to silence the victim. While Murdock struggles in court, Daredevil hits the streets as Klaw, master of sound, makes his deadly return! Then, the blind literally lead the blind as a visually impaired client targeted for assassination holds the key to a global conspiracy perpetrated by familiar foes.
Can Daredevil protect the young man long enough to bring down an international criminal organization, or will their deadly enforcer get to him first?
Folks: you want good comics, you read this new DAREDEVIL stuff. Trust us: you’ll be so happy you did!

STAR WARS DARTH MAUL: DEATH SENTENCE #1 RESURRECTS THE MOST ENIGMATIC SITH LORD
Now, here’s something we don’t see nearly enough of in the realm of STAR WARS comics… DARTH MAUL!
I’m pretty stoked for this one, because I always thought that Maul was such a cool character with so much potential, that didn’t really get the full treatment in EPISODE I.
In the new limited series DEATH SENTENCE, the galaxy has learned the terrible truth: Sith Lord Darth Maul still lives! Worse, he has joined forces with his brother Savage Opress!
The Jedi are searching for them and, after Maul and Opress cut a murderous swath through the Outer Rim, so is an army of mercenaries hired by a wealthy mine owner.
Darth Maul has a price on his head, and for him, there’s only one way to deal with such a problem: go directly to the source.
Following up on the events of THE CLONE WARS and EPISODE 1, this stellar new series brings us more Maul awesomeness!

BEFORE WATCHMEN: THE COMEDIAN #2 — Our favorite of the new BEFORE WATCHMEN titles continues this week!
BEFORE WATCHMEN is turning out to be one of our favorite things of the Summer, and THE COMEDIAN limited series is most definitely our favorite of the line-up.
Brian Azzarello, writer of JOKER, FLASHPOINT BATMAN, 100 BULLETS and more, perfectly captures the depth and complexity of THE COMEDIAN, who is the most likable yet most despicable character in the entire series all at the same time.
In the first issue, the way they fleshed out the background between the Comedian and the Kennedy family, as well as his connections to Marilyn Monroe and her death, was an amazing read, and this week’s #2, which takes the Comedian into those fateful jungles of VIETNAM is even crazier.
Highly recommended, Third Eye Faithful, you’ve gotta jump on board with this one!
Wanna get caught up? Not only do we have plenty of THE COMEDIAN #1 in stock to catch you up, but also ALL other issues of the new WATCHMEN series are in stock as well.

X-TREME X-MEN #1 DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY BRINGING OUT A MULTIVERSE-TRAVELING TEAM OF X-MEN! A MUST FOR FANS OF ALT-UNIVERSE TALES, WHAT Ifs, AND THE SERIES EXILES!
Here’s a pretty kick-ass one if you were a fan of series like EXILES, with this brand new X-TREME X-MEN title that delivers a team composed of various X-Men from different Marvel Universe realities.
Captain James Howllett (Picture WOLVERINE if he was Mal from Firefly), Kid Nightcrawler, and Emmeline Frost
This book focuses on them traveling between dimensions, and struggling to find themselves to their own universes.. while saving other’s from dying in the process.
We have a soft spot for crazy alternate reality stories, and especially love when Marvel plays the multiverse card.
X-Treme X-Men has some fantastic looking artwork, and with PLANET HULK writer GREG PAK handling the writing chores, you know you’re in for a solid story.

ZENESCOPE DEBUTS THEIR HIGHLY ANTICIPATED WONDERLAND ONGOING SERIES THIS WEDNESDAY WITH WONDERLAND #1!
We have been long-time fans of the various incarnations of ZENESCOPE’S awesome WONDERLAND comics, and with the most recent ALICE IN WONDERLAND series, they did a stellar job of setting up everything for an ongoing monthly title set in the world of WONDERLAND.
And, well, folks, that’s what we’re seeing this week: the debut of the first ever ongoing WONDERLAND series, which is pretty darn exciting considering the awesomeness that’s come out of books like BEYOND WONDERLAND, ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND, RETURN TO WONDERLAND and ALICE IN WONDERLAND. No one does the dark riff on Alice in Wonderland better than Zenescope, and we cannot wait to see what they have planned with their new series.
In this fresh, new series that’s a perfect jumping on point for anyone who hasn’t read the WONDERLAND series before, Calie Liddle has returned! GREEN LANTERN #11 *THE REVENGE OF BLACK HAND CHAPTER 1* — A new arc begins, as the story we’ve all been waiting for kicks off: THE REVENGE OF BLACK HAND!
GREEN LANTERN has been one of the consistently best DC COMICS titles for almost a decade, folks. I know that sounds crazy, but seriously: nearly 10 freakin’ years, and this book still remains every bit as good as it was when GEOFF JOHNS first came on board with GL: REBIRTH.
Now, moving forward, here we are in the NEW 52, and while GREEN LANTERN may not be getting the same kind of spotlight it was during the height of the BLACKEST NIGHT.. it’s still a damn good read, and we are totally pumped to get our hands on this week’s issue which begins one of the coolest GL stories yet:
THE REVENGE OF BLACK HAND!
Yes, the original avatar of Nekron, and the catalyst for the BLACKEST NIGHT, BLACK HAND has returned, and after serving his time amongst the Indigo Tribe… you know he’s ready to deal out some serious revenge.

Mark Millar and John Romita JR are dealing up one hell of a fun series with their new HIT-GIRL title, that takes place in between KICK ASS and KICK ASS 2, and shows us just what took place while everyone’s favorite ultra-violent killer was away at school in the events that followed KICK-ASS 1.
Just as bloody as the first two series, and every bit as darkly humorous, MARK MILLAR brings his A game with the new HIT-GIRL series, and we cannot get enough of it!

UNDERWATER WELDER — JEFF LEMIRE, writer of SWEET TOOTH and ANIMAL MAN, debuts stand-alone graphic novel that will blow your mind!
A MUST-READ!

Jeff Lemire, we can safely say, is a pretty big Third Eye favorite, with his amazing work on the NEW 52 ANIMAL MAN series, and his Vertigo epic, SWEET TOOTH. Not to mention the awesomeness that was ESSEX COUNTY.
Now, Lemire has a new literary masterpiece out that tells the tale of an underwater welder on an oil rig off the coast of Nova Scotia, Jack Joseph is used to the immense pressures of deep-sea work. Nothing, however, could prepare him for the pressures of impending fatherhood.
As Jack dives deeper and deeper, he seems to pull further and further away from his young wife, and their unborn son. But then, something happens deep on the ocean floor: Jack has a strange and mind-bending encounter that will change the course of his life forever.
A satisfying, strange and emotional read, UNDERWATER WELDER is top notch, Third Eye Faithful, and I cannot recommend it enough.

This week, Zenescope debuts a new series alongside their WONDERLAND ongoing, with a limited series that brings together all of the major villains of the Grimm Fairy Tales multiverse.. and sets them loose!
The Mistress of Limbo has gathered together a team of allies from across the four realms of power. Will anyone be able to stand against the united power of Baba Yaga, The Goblin Queen, and the Queen of Spades?

JEFF LEMIRE, writer of ANIMAL MAN & SWEET TOOTH, delivers the DC NEW 52 goods with a brand new take on KID ETERNITY in NATIONAL COMICS: ETERNITY #1 one-shot.
Okay, so we already told you guys above in our write-up of UNDERWATER WELDER how big of fans we are of JEFF LEMIRE and his fantastic talented work in comics.
So, we don’t need to retread that ground, all we can tell you is that pairing LEMIRE up with KID ETERNITY? That is PERFECT.

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES MICROSERIES #6: CASEY JONES ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY
If you were a fan of the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES back in the day, then you were probably a fan of CASEY JONES, because lets face it: he was the epitome of bad-ass.
In this special one-shot, we’re shown how Casey Jones has quite a peculiar life — hockey-playing student by day, vigilante by night. Throw in an alcoholic, abusive father, and it’s no wonder you’ve got a guy who likes to wail on criminals with sports equipment!
One night though, the criminal element strikes too close to home, and Casey is forced to decide how far he’ll go to keep a very important promise.
A fantastic one-shot read, this CASEY JONES tale kicked ass!

SCALPED VOL.9 KNUCKLE UP TRADE PAPERBACK BRINGS US CLOSER TO THE CONCLUSION OF JASON AARON’S STELLAR HARDBOILED CRIME EPIC
Man, we love SCALPED. This continues to be one of our favorite monthly books, and we’re going to be so sad to see it conclude.
Jason Aaron’s grizzled modern day crime story about the life and times of a Native American reservation in the Mid-West and it’s inhabitants has captivated us for many years now, and we can’t believe that it’s coming to it’s end soon. But, damn, what a wild ride!
There’s a lot going on with SCALPED, and a quick review or write-up really wouldn’t do it justice, let me just say this: imagine THE WIRE on a reservation, with that kind of storytelling, plot twists, and character development.. and that helps capture the tone of SCALPED well.
If you haven’t gotten into this fantastics series by now, we recommend grabbing the first trade paperback (in stock now) and getting caught up!
