This Week's Highlights at Third Eye Comics for Wednesday 9/19/12

JUSTICE LEAGUE #0 -- SHAZAM takes center-stage, as the classic character gets a bold new look at his origins!
A MUST-READ & A CRUCIAL CHAPTER LEADING INTO THIS YEAR'S TRINITY WAR!
If you've been on the fence about reading JUSTICE LEAGUE, now is your chance to dive in, Third Eye Faithful. When we say this is one of the consistently best DC NEW 52 books: we mean it.
I mean, GEOFF JOHNS & JIM LEE as the regular series creative team? Gary Frank assisting on the Shazam back-ups in past issues? How can that NOT be awesome?
This Wednesday, JUSTICE LEAGUE #0 provides the ground zero prelude point for the upcoming TRINITY WAR, which we started seeing seeds sewn for in the pages of JUSTICE LEAGUE #12 and JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL ANNUAL #1 last month.
Now, as we're given a very cool look at the NEW 52 origins of SHAZAM (who is so damn cool in the NEW 52, it's not even funny), we're also shown the opening shots that are going to be kicking the Trinity War into high gear.
This special ZERO month issue features a look at Shazam, and how he's carrying a much more... deadly.. mission statement than any previous incarnation of the character.
Remember the Shazam we saw glimpses of in KINGDOM COME? The one who would bear-hug SUPERMAN and keep screaming SHAZAM striking him over and over with lightning? I have a feeling that this is the same kind of SHAZAM we're going to be seeing.
Featuring the dream team of GEOFF JOHNS and GARY FRANK, the same men responsible for this Summer's BATMAN: EARTH ONE and last year's SUPERMAN: SECRET ORIGIN, JUSTICE LEAGUE #0 is THE Zero issue to get, Third Eye Faithful, and we cannot recommend this enough.
Wanna go back and get caught up on all the earlier JL issues? We've got issues 1-12 in stock now to get you up to this week's #0, or you can just jump on fresh with the JUSTICE LEAGUE #0.

REVIVAL #3 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY CONTINUING THE AWESOMENESS THAT IS IMAGE COMICS'S REVIVAL! NOT ON BOARD WITH THIS STELLAR NEW SERIES YET? WE'VE GOT ISSUES 1 & 2 IN STOCK TO CATCH YOU UP!
REVIVAL is one of the best damn new series we've seen this year, and ranks up there with SAGA in terms of incredible new IMAGE launch titles for 2012. The writing on this one is so strong courtesy of TIM SEELEY, and the art of Mike Norton fits the tone of the book perfectly.
I dare you to try the first issue, and not come running back to Third Eye for issue #2!
Seriously though, the book is good, and not only has it been ranking high for many of us with it's compelling story and art, but it's also turned into quite a hit on the secondary market, with both issue 1, issue 1 2nd print, and issue 2 all going up in value; as well as our own Third Eye variant.
Now, moving ahead, we're on track for REVIVAL #3, and folks: now is the time to jump into this great series. We've still got plenty of copies of REVIVAL 1 & 2 in stock now to get you caught up for this week's #3, and trust us, this book is hot, so make sure to get on board now.
What's REVIVAL about? Picture FARGO with a supernatural twist. For one day in rural central Wisconsin, the dead came back to life. Now it's up to Officer Dana Cypress to deal with the media scrutiny, religious zealots, and government quarantine that has come with them.
In a town where the living have to learn to deal with those who are supposed to be dead, Officer Cypress must solve a brutal murder, and everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect.
One part 'farm noir', one part horror story with a new spin on the zombie genre, REVIVAL is the epitome of GOOD COMICS, and we cannot throw the THIRD EYE SEAL OF APPROVAL on this one enough.
Snag issues 1-3 this Wednesday and get on board one of the most exciting new IMAGE series of 2012!

STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION HIVE #1 FROM BRANNON BRAGA of the STAR TREK TELEVISION FRANCHISE, DEBUTS AN EXCITING NEW ONGOING SERIES IN THE WORLD OF STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION
MAKE IT SO!
Who didn't grow up loving the hell out of STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION? And, anyone who was just a tad bit obsessive knew that the man behind the magic was series writer BRANNON BRAGA, who co-wrote the series finale 'All Good Things', and many other memorable episodes.
So, when we saw that our pals at IDW were putting together a brand new STAR TREK ongoing series that explored the world of TNG, and it was being penned by BRANNON BRAGA... you could say we got more than a little excited.
In STAR TREK TNG: HIVE, we're shown a distant future where the entire galaxy ahs been completely assimilated by The Borg and it's ruler, KING LOCUTIS! The only hope for the future lies in teh past, in the hands of Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the starship Enterprise -- as Picard faces off against the Borg collective in one final, terrifying, and definitive encounter.
The Borg, Locotus, Seven of Nine, the Borg Queen, Riker, and the entire crew of The Enterprise are going to be throwing down in this one, and folks: it will be the coolest Trek comic you ever read. Seriously.

SPIDER-MEN #5 BRINGS THE CONCLUSION TO THE ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN and AMAZING SPIDER-MAN CROSSOVER! A FANTASTIC READ!
We've been really digging the cross-over between the regular 616 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Peter Parker and the new ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN Miles Morales, and folks, we are pumped to read this week's issue #5 which wraps everything up.
The dream team of Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli on ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN has been making SPIDER-MEN a must-read, and the dynamic of having Peter meeting Miles, and the two working together, has been kick-ass.
In this week's issue #5, we see Peter Parker, Miles Morales and the Ultimates teaming up to take on Mysterio, but even if they can take him down, how will Peter get back home? And what will he and Miles do with the knowledge that they're not alone in the universe? Most importantly, will Peter give Miles his blessing to continue on as Spider-Man?
This has been one of our favorite things from MARVEL this Summer, and we really can't recommend it enough if you're looking for a fantastic Spider-Man story, or an intro to the ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN stuff that's already been kicking ass on a monthly basis.
Either way: it's good stuff, and we can't recommend it enough.
Wanna get caught up? We've got SPIDER-MEN 1-4 in stock now to catch you up to this week's #5.

This issue is a perfect jumping on point for one of the DCU's most popular characters, AND it's also a very cool key issue that explores the origins of DICK GRAYSON in the NEW 52.

WALKING DEAD #102 CONCLUDES "SOMETHING TO FEAR" -- AND THINGS ARE ABOUT TO GET EVEN WORSE FOR THE CREW!
I think it's safe to say that the WALKING DEAD is one of the comics that many of you look forward to the most every month. And, ya know what? We're right there with you. Seriously. I finish one of these bad boys, and I'm already screaming KIRKMAN! WHERE'S THE NEXT ONE?
But, as we all know, dropping spoilers on a new WALKING DEAD is a major no-no, so I'm going to just say this: holy crap. :)
Another fantastic issue of WALKING DEAD as SOMETHING TO FEAR concludes, and we gear up for the next big arc.
If you've been following the series in graphic novel, and cannot wait for the next trade to drop, then we can help you out. Volume 16 would've taken you up to issue #96, and we've got plenty of copies of issues 97-101 in stock now to catch you up to this Wednesday's #102.

GHOST #0 -- Captain Marvel writer KELLY SUE DECONNICK BRINGS A NEW KIND OF HEROINE TO THE WORLD OF COMICS THIS WEDNESDAY
We're big fans of Kelly Sue's work on CAPTAIN MARVEL, and we loved Adam Hughes's original incarnation of GHOST back in the day, so we're pretty stoked to see Kelly Sue working with the insanely talented Phil Noto (INFINITE HORIZON, UNCANNY X-FORCE) to introduce a bold new spin to the spectral heroine.
Former journalist Vaughn Barnes has been reduced to moonlighting as a cameraman for the shoddy paranormal investigation cable TV show Phantom Finders. But when a curious device summons the spectre of a beautiful, translucent woman, Vaughn is plunged into a mystery of criminal intrigue that spans two worlds.
The character of GHOST is a pretty awesome one, and we give this one a big thumbs up as a fantastic first issue!

RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #0 -- THE ORIGINS OF HOW JASON TODD CAME BACK TO LIFE AFTER BEING MURDERED BY THE JOKER ARE REVEALED IN THE NEW 52!
The DC ZERO MONTH issues continue to impress us, and another of our NEW 52 favorites gets a very cool Zero issue this month with RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #0.
Who doesn't dig Jason Todd, right? I mean, the character, especially with the evolution of him over the last 10 years, has an infinite cool appeal that's hard to deny.
And this is why we are totally excited about this week's RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #0, as we're going to get the full NEW 52 origins and inside scoop on how Jason Todd went from being a corpse the Joker left behind to being the bad-ass anti-hero he is today.

WOMANTHOLOGY: SPACE #1 DEBUTS A NEW LIMITED SERIES OF KILLER SCI-FI STORIES BY SOME OF THE MOST TALENTED WOMEN WORKING IN COMICS TODAY!
We totally dug the giant hardcover of awesomeness that was last year's WOMANTHOLOGY, so when we saw IDW was going to be delivering a new five-issue limited series that follows up on the same theme as the original WOMANTHOLOGY ( a collection of stories by women creators working in the comics industry ), we knew it'd be awesome.
Womanthology: Space starts off with a total ass-kicker of a great read with the story: MOON. Haunted space stations, snarky robots, and so much more in this debut issue from talented ladies like Sandy Carpenter, Ming Doyle, and Renae Deliz.
PLUS: loads of cool extras, like pin-ups, how-tos, and more by women of all ages and experience.

GARTH ENNIS (writer of THE BOYS, PREACHER, & CROSSED) continues to impress with his take on the Shadow in this week's THE SHADOW #5
We've always been big fans of THE SHADOW, and the pulpy worlds he inhabited, so we were already sold when we saw Dynamite was bringing the character back, but with Garth Ennis handling the writing chores? Now, THAT is good stuff. And, folks, so far each and every issue of the series has been a damn good read.
In this week's issue #5, Kondo's trap succeeds beyond his expectations, as a bloody massacre leaves our heroes alone in teh wilderness without hope of rescue. Deep in the kingdom of Buffalo Wong the object of everyone's desire is revealed, and Margo Lane and Pat Finnegan begin to see just how far Lamont Cranston will go in pursuit of his goals.
Ennis's take on the SHADOW is a bloody, unrelenting, and grim look at the world of pulp heroes, and the criminal underworld of the '30s and '40s.
In other words: it's everything you'd want out of Ennis writing the SHADOW and more.
Wanna get caught up on this series? We've got issues 1-4 in stock now to catch you up to tomorrow's #5.

THANOS: THE FINAL THREAT REPRINTS A CLASSIC TALE THAT SHOWS THE ENTIRETY OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE UNITING TO BATTLE THANOS!
You know us, Third Eye Faithful, we cannot get enough of the mad Titan, and nothing beats the original Jim Starlin THANOS stuff, for sure.
In this special one-shot, THE FINAL THREAT, Thanos gathers the six cosmic Soul Gems in a ruthless bid for interplanetary power! It's up to Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Spider-Man, The Thing, and the enigmatic Adam Warlock to stop him!
How far will the Marvel Universe's mightiest heroes go to beat a villain whose only goal is to win the favor of Death herself?
Nothing beats Jim Starlin THANOS, we'll say it again, and this is a great addition to your collection of INFINITY GAUNTLET, and THANOS QUEST.

AMETHYST RETURNS IN A BRAND NEW "DC NEW 52" TITLE WITH SWORD OF SORCERY #0 -- A STELLAR DCU TAKE ON THE ROLE OF FANTASY AND MAGIC IN THE DCU!
One of the new DC New 52 additions to the line-up that's debuting amongst all the ZERO MONTH issues is the SWORD OF SORCERY title, which looks like it's going to be a real blast.
We've always said that there's a real shortage on kick-ass fantasy genre books in the realm of comics, and we're stoked to see DC filling that void with books like this and their already running DEMON KNIGHTS (which we actually really dig!).
In this brand new series featuring the long-awaited return of Amethyst, Amy Winston leadsa  strange life on the road with her mother. She's about to learn why it's all been necessary when she discover she's the lost princess of Gemworld -- and has powerful enemies hunting her.
Sword of Sorcery is set to deliver a very cool spin on the classic tales of not just Amethyst, but many other characters in the realm of DCU's magic and fantasy realms.

RILEY ROSSMO'S (DEBRIS, GREEN WAKE) REBEL BLOOD ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY IN TRADE PAPERBACK -- DELIVERING A STELLAR "RESIDENT EVIL"-STYLE RIFF ON ZOMBIE HORROR!

As many of you know, we're pretty big fans of Riley Rossmo's incredible artwork on past works like GREEN WAKE, DEBRIS, COWBOY NINJA VIKING and more. And, you probably have already heard that we're totally pumped to be having Riley out to the store in October to do a huge launch party for he and Nick Spencer's upcoming new series BEDLAM.
So, us showing some love to Riley's killer zombie mini-series is a no-brainer, ya know?
In REBEL BLOOD, Rossmo captures the aesthetic of those old school Resident Evil games, with creepy zombified animals lurking around and proving to be an even bigger danger than the human zombies.
A virus has created a wilderness of blood-thirsty creatures standing between you and your family. You don't know if you can save them in time, or if you've even got the strength to try. But you're about to find out.
In a world of ravenous creatures it doesn't matter who you used to be.
Today you're lunch.
KILLER stuff, Third Eye Faithful, and if you're big on the zombie stuff, or the horror stuff, then this is a must-read.

GODZILLA: HALF CENTURY WAR #2 -- JAMES STOKOE'S (ORC STAIN) "GODZILLA THROUGH THE AGES" SHOWS US THE BIG G IN THE '60s.... PLUS: ANGUIRUS!
This may be the best Godzilla comic... EVER. Seriously, heck, even if you're not a GODZILLA fan, you need to be up on this one, and for one reason, and one reason only: James Stokoe is one of the raddest artists working in comics today.
Dude's style is incredible, with loads of detail, and the kind of hyper-eneregetic feel as Geoff Darrow.
In GODZILLA: HALF CENTURY WAR, each issue of this 5-issue limited series is set in a different decade, focusing on a different point on Godzilla's history, while following the giant lizard from the viewpoint of two soldiers who were there for his first arrival, and now have been designated as "the experts" on this monstrosity.
The year is 1967 and Godzilla is on the move... to Vietnam!
With a war underway, Godzilla is the last thing the country needs. Lieutenant Murakami follows Godzilla to try out some new tech on the monster, but a super-sized foe named Anguirius might just be the most effective counter-measure.
Giant monsters. Awesome art. What more could you want?

WINTER SOLDIER VOL.1 THE LONGEST WINTER COLLECTS THE FIRST 6 ISSUES OF ED BRUBAKER'S KILLER SERIES FOLLOWING BUCKY BARNES!
Dude, Brubaker's work on the new WINTER SOLDIER series is incredible, and a lot of that is due in part to the amazing art team he's working with of Guice and Brettweister on art and colors. This book LOOKS like a cold war espionage story should look, and it just enhances the killer story that Brubaker's weaving.
He's been Bucky and Captain America -- now, James Barnes returns to the role of the Winter Soldier. They're the super-spies of the Marvel Universe -- and when ex-Russian sleeper agents awaken, Bucky and the Black Widow must go on the hunt for men trained by the Winter Soldier himself.
Of course, things go bad when the trail leads to Latveria, and Bucky comes face-to-face with Dr. Doom.
One of the most killer new Marvel series to launch over the Summer, this is a fantastic read, Third Eye Faithful, snag a copy and hop on board!

CATWOMAN #0 -- THE ORIGIN OF SELINA KYLE IN THE NEW 52 IS TOLD... AND INCLUDES SOME SHOCKING TWISTS!
We've always thought that CATWOMAN was one of the better DCU characters, and definitely one of the best characters to come out of the Batman world, but there's never really been a good definitive starting point that we could point to and say: this is it. This is her origin. There's been a lot of different takes on her origins, and some have been awesome, and some have been not, but this week's CATWOMAN #0 is the first time we really feel that the origin has been done right.
Serving as a jumping on point for the new CATWOMAN series, as well as exploring the NEW 52 origins of Selina Kyle, this killer issue packs a punch with some very cool twists on the origins of Gotham's favorite femme fatale.

J. SCOTT CAMPBELL CONTINUES HIS ULTIMATE CROSSOVER WITH DANGER GIRL / GI JOE #3 THIS WEDNESDAY
We've been big fans of J. Scott Campbell's DANGER GIRL stuff for a long time, and you can totally see the influence of GI JOE: A REAL AMERICAN HERO on the world that he's created with DANGER GIRL.
So, to have Campbell overseeing a cross-over between his own DANGER GIRL crew and the characters of GI JOE?
That's pure comic magic, Third Eye Faithful.
In this week's DANGER GIRL / GI JOE #3, Abbey Chase has been working behind enemy lines as an Agent of COBRA, but when the GI JOE strike force puts the DANGER GIRL team in the line of fire, who will Abbey side with to win the battle?

JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY VOL.2 ARRIVES THIS WEDNESDAY DELIVERING THE SECOND INSTALLMENT OF KIERON GILLEN'S INCREDIBLY SMART TAKE ON LOKI!
Imagine Neil Gaiman's SANDMAN in the MARVEL UNIVERSE!
Journey Into Mystery, Third Eye Faithful, may very well be the best comic you're not reading. This series has quietly grown into one of the best damn things coming out of Marvel, and while it's end is near, we're pumped to be able to introduce you to each and every volume when the new trades come out.
And, lets be real, this is one of those ones that just reads so damn good in trade, it's ridiculous. It's a dense, layered, and complex story draped in simplicity. It's got the kind of magic working for it that Neil Gaiman's SANDMAN did, and that's why it reads so well once collected.
In volume 2, we're shown a child Loki, who on his road to redemption, has brought his team of damned souls and deadly foes together to save the world.
But, what is Loki's motivation?
This series is so damn cool, it's really hard to do it justice in just a few paragraphs. Do yourselves a favor, snag volume 1, and find out why we're all about JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY.
